The BBC and Red Planet Pictures have revealed that Don Gilet (Sherwood, EastEnders, The Beekeeper, Shetland) will be the new lead detective in ratings-smash crime drama Death in Paradise.
Making his debut in a feature-length Christmas special later this year, before a brand-new series in 2025, Gilet will play Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson - who arrives on the idyllic island of Saint Marie from London, and isn’t overly pleased with his new surroundings…
Gilet has recently begun filming in Guadeloupe, alongside returning Death in Paradise regulars Don Warrington, Shantol Jackson, Ginny Holder, Élizabeth Bourgine and Danny John-Jules.
Don Gilet says: “Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands. This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated. Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool or an ice-cold beer – whichever happens to be closer at the time!
Tim Key, Executive Producer for Red Planet Pictures, says: “Don is an amazing actor and we’re delighted that he’s joining us as the show enters another exciting new era. We’ve got huge plans for
the new series and beyond, and I can’t wait for the audience to meet Mervin and to see what we’ve got in store...”
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, says: “We could not be happier to welcome Don to the series. Already known to BBC viewers from the likes of Sherwood, EastEnders, and Doctor Who, he’s long been one of the UK’s most exciting actors. Death in Paradise is in brilliant hands - roll on Christmas!”
Offering the perfect cocktail of sun-soaked escapism, shimmering seas and clear blue skies, the detective drama enters its fourteenth year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with its much-loved combination of magnificent murder mysteries and plot twists which leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
BBC Studios, who distribute the series, have now licensed Death in Paradise to over 230 territories across the globe. It was recently announced that following the successful launch of spin-off series Beyond Paradise last year, the Death in Paradise franchise will build on its international success with new Australia-set spin-off series Return to Paradise, airing later this year on the BBC and on ABC in Australia. Death in Paradise is a Red Planet Pictures production for the BBC made with the support of the region of Guadeloupe and internationally distributed by BBC Studios. The feature-length Christmas special and 2025 series will be executive produced by Tim Key and Amy Rodriguez for Red Planet Pictures and Danielle Scott-Haughton for BBC, and series produced by Sue Howells. All series of Death in Paradise are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

The disassembly drones' former names
Tumblr media
I figured that I would share this headcanon with all of you sooner or later. You know each of the disassembly drones’ serial designations? Well, what if their letters were based off their former names back when they were worker drones? And I’m not talking about the first letter of their names. I’m talking about the name of the letter in each of their names. For example, N’s former name was probably either Kenneth, Bennett, or Leonard, and V’s former name probably either Venus, Vivian, or Genevieve. J’s former name was probably either Jamie or Jane, the latter of which I was initially going for Mary Jane (yes, the same name as the famous supporting character from Spider-Man). I’m unsure about CYN or Cynthia, though, largely because that she probably died long before the events of the series that she wasn’t converted into a disassembly drone. Besides, for all we know, she was going on a crazy, murderous rampage that she had to be put down. And if she was converted into a disassembly drone, her designation might be either C from the first letter of her name or T from a phonetic of her name (Cynthia).
The former names should go as followed:
A – Ada, Eva, Avery, Abraham, Adrian
B – Beatrice, Bianca, Phoebe; Sabine
C – Caesar, Cecil, Casey
D – Diesel, Delia, Deanna, Heidi, Nadine
E – Edith, Eden, Elaine, Ian
F – Efrem, Jeffrey, Stephanie
G – Giovanni, Georgina, Regina, Eugene
H – Rachel, Horatio
I – Isaac, Ivan, Isaiah, Ivy, Iris
J – Jane, Jamie, Jayden
K – Katie, Kayla, Casey
L – Eleanor, Elliot, Elias, Elvis, Elmer; Bella, Angelica, Melanie, Danielle, Michelle; Denzel
M – Emma, Emerald, Emmett, Emmerich, Clementine
N – Kenneth, Bennett, Benedict, Leonard, Henry
O – Ophelia, Olivia, Odette, Opal
P – Peter, Penelope
Q – Cueball, Queue
R – Archie, Armand, Charles, Harley
S – Essence, Estelle, Esther, Jessica, Lester, Marquess
T –  Christina, Valentina, Misty
U – Ulysses, Unity, Eunice, Eustace
V – Venus, Vivian, Genevieve
W – Winston, Wilson
X – Xavier, Rex, Alexander
Y – Wyatt, Wyvern, Wyoming
Z – Ezekiel, Lindsay, Suzie
I also want to share that I used to have a theory that J, N, and V used to be regular secretary drones before being converted into disassembly drones, as well as my former headcanon that N used to be friends with his assigned human coworker.
Anyway, that’s all I have for this headcanon for now. This might be re-edited soon, but if you’d like to add in some additions, feel free to do so in the replies and reblogs. You can use this list as an outline for your OCs if you want. And I’ll see you all next time.
P.S. If Uzi were to transform into a disassembly drone, should her designation be either U or Z?

i am keeping track of every play i've read. and i need to put it somewhere
this list is long so im putting it under a cut
The Pillowman - Martin McDonagh - really interesting read, i keep going back and forth on how I feel about it which is a sign that it's REALLY well-crafted. Pieces: Katurian (act 1, mostly), Ariel (act 3, mostly).
Hamlet - William Shakespeare - what a good play!
Romeo and Juliet - William Shakespeare
Titus Andronichus - William Shakespeare
Macbeth - William Shakespeare
Henry V - William Shakespeare
As You Like It - William Shakespeare
Much Ado About Nothing - William Shakespeare
Fences - August Wilson
Agamemmnon - Aeschylus
Electra - Sophocles - modern story conventions mean this play doesn't age well. Contemporarily, the drama of the play is centered around whether Electra will do matricide/step-patricide (with the audience at least hypothetically against the matricide), but modern story structures lessen this drama and turmoil because of moral changes -- it seems arbitrary that Orestes has to do the murder, and Clytaemnestra can be a little girlbossified. Pieces: see conversation between Electra and her sister, maybe.
Medea - Euripides - you don't need me to tell you this play is good.
The Frogs - Aristophanes
Phaedra - Seneca
Fat Ham - James Ijames
Fences - August Wilson
LOVE/SICK - John Cariani
Almost, Maine - John Cariani
Late: A Cowboy Song - Sarah Ruhl - I need to read more Sarah Ruhl
Fairview - Jackie Sibblies Drury
Intimate Apparel - Lynn Nottage
The Last Days of Judas Iscariot - Stephen Adler Guirgis
12 Angry Men - Reginald Rose
The Laramie Project - Moises Kaufman & The Tectonic Theatre Project
You and Me and the Space Between - Finegan Kruckemeyer
This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing - Finegan Kruckemeyer
The Book of Will - Lauren Gunderson
MilkMilkLemonade - Joshua Conkel
You on the Moors Now - Jaclyn Backhaus
The Metamorphoses - Mary Zimmerman
Fuddy Meers - David Lindsay-Abaire
A Doll's House - Henrik Ibsen
A Doll's House Part 2 - Lucas Hnath
Men on Boats - Jaclyn Backhaus
The Snow - Finegan Kruckemeyer
The Phantom Tollbooth - Susan Nanus
Digging Up Dessa - Laura Schellhardt
Actually - Anna Ziegler - i'm not sure how I feel about this play. both characetrs are strongly written. a lot of potential for monologues.

To add to this:
I’ve recently started watching Doctor Who and am just finishing up season 5. I have a running list of actors who were in both Doctor Who and Merlin (because I love Merlin with my whole soul and there is a surprising amount of crossover). What I’ve found so far:
1. Eve Myles (Lady Helen/Mary Collins in 1x01)
2. Richard Wilson (Gaius)
3. Anthony Head (Uther)
4. Angel Coulby (Gwen)
5. Tom Ellis (King Cenred)
6. Philip Davis (the Gleeman in 4x03)
7. Joe Dempsie (Will in 1x10)
8. Georgia Tennant (was Moffet at the time) (Lady Vivian in 2x10)
9. Colin Salmon (Aglain in 2x03)
10. Colin Morgan (Merlin)
11. Michelle Ryan (Nimueh)
12. Lindsay Duncan (Queen Annis)
13. Tom Hopper (Percival)
14. Alex Price (Sir William of Deira in 2x02)
Bonus: Not from Merlin, but Andrew Garfield!
Running list of actors I know from elsewhere I’ve spotted as one-off characters in my Doctor Who binge
-Shirley Henderson (Moaning Myrtle from Harry Potter)
-Nina Sosayana (Sister Mary Loquacious and Nina from Good Omens)
-Thomas Brodie-Sangster (the kid from Love Actually)
-Derek Jacobi (Metatron from Good Omens)
-Russell Tovey (Henry Knight from Sherlock)
-PETER CAPALDI!?
-James Corden (from, uh, James Corden?)
-Daniel Mays (Arthur Young from Good Omens)

Dancing with the Stars Season 28 Premiere: Let’s Just Get This Started
So let’s go ahead and put this out there right now. I will not be doing a predictions post. I also will not be watching the Screaming Turtle’s dances either. So, yeah. Time to start (fyi the lighting is terrible tonight).
Hannah and Alan- Cha-cha (Score=20)- Hannah has a lot of potential. She has great natural ability. She was stiff though. She also needs to work on balance and not restricting her movements as much as she did in this dance. Oh and she was rushing through the dance. A lot of those things can be easily fixed and I’m hopeful to see her progress throughout the season.
Kel and Witney- Tango (Score=16)- Kel’s footwork was really strange here. He was kinda bouncy. And his foot placement was sometimes just odd. They also missed a couple of hand connections and that frame and head was wonky. BUT, his attitude was really great. He really has a ton of potential. That 16 felt low.
Kate and Pasha- Cha-cha (Score=15)- I enjoyed this. And Kate isn’t bad. I think a lot of her issues come from being nervous. There was also the hip action that was forced and it looked painful. Even though Kate looked really nervous, she had a lot of fun and as a result, I had a lot of fun too.
Lamar and Peta- Foxtrot (Score=11)- I like Lamar’s suit. Lamar looked so petrified. I’m happy he finished it with no obvious mistakes. Yeah, he wasn’t all that smooth, but I think he really really did a good job. And I agree with CAI about the fact that he wasn’t afraid to move according to his size. That’s a a problem that a lot of tall men on this show deal with.
Lauren and Gleb- Cha-cha (Score=19)- Lauren did a good job with what she was given. There are some issues, but I want to discuss the issue with the choreography. Gleb, get it together. I am sick of you getting people with loads of potential and squandering it with your awful choreo.
Sailor and Val- Foxtrot (Score=18)- I feel bad for Christie. That’s never a good thing. Now as far as Sailor is concerned, you can tell that she and Val just put this dance together in like 3 days in a panic. She was pretty okay. She has really great lines and she had great confidence. Um, her footwork was bad though and they lacked body contact. There were other things but with 3 days of practice, I’ll let it go for now.
Karamo and Jenna- Salsa (Score=17)- That was probably the most technically sound dance of the night so far. I did feel like he could have sold the performance a lot more, but it was still good. Definitely felt like it was 21 worthy. So that score was bs. And I’m not even biased at all because I don’t care for him or Jenna. Those reactions make me worried that he’s gonna go the way of Michael Sam and never be able to impress the judges no matter how well he does (and we’re gonna have to have a real conversation about homophobia and racism on this show and how they intersect).
Ray and Cheryl- Salsa (Score=15)- So this is the type of performance that I wanted from Karamo. Ray really went for it. And while the technique was lacking, it was a really really great performance.
Mary and Brandon- Foxtrot (Score=17)- I love Miss Mary. She’s definitely a performer. She moves extremely well. And she just exudes confidence and elegance. I want her to finish her lines though. Especially in her arms.
Ally and Sasha- Cha-cha (Score=16)- Wait. Where was this Ally in the group?!?!?!?!? Anyway, she really went for it. And it was great. She was a little wild, but I am really shocked. I came in expecting for her to kinda just mosey her way on through the dances. 16 is low.
Poor Lindsay is stuck with the Snapping Turtle. Now I have to go more than a year without watching my fave. I’m sad.
James and Emma- Tango (Score=21)- These two killed it. The absolute best of the night. My biggest critique was his feet weren’t pointed. Otherwise, everything for this was done very very very well. I would have loved to see an 8 thrown in.
So that’s it. If I’m honest, I was really let down by thins premiere. And I ended up being extremely annoyed for at least 90% of the show. Let me know your thoughts and I will be back next week. Hopefully things get fixed but I doubt it.
