Since charaā€™s true name is based off the pun ā€˜charaā€™cter would Asloā€™s siblings true name be Uma based off of hā€™umaā€™n?
that wouldn't really work aslo is a full monster (half boss). aslo more so represents Asriel and Asgore's poor naming conventions. (Asriel is a combo of Asgore and Toriel)
its a nice thought tho! by your logic if chara were to have a kid they'd be name Manny (human) or Monty (monster) since they're not human anymore

First impressions on the new Asriel letter
So...
It seems we finally have some new Chara content in 2024 !
At the end of the latest newsletter, Toby shared one more letter with us, which contained some very interesting things.
Let's try and dissect it a bit.
First, to start with the obvious, this is a letter written by Asriel about Chara. We can see this from such as things as :
Using the term "best friend"
Tumblr media
But also because 9 is already a number associated with Chara.
Of course, it is present with them rather strongly during the genocide route. Such as during its ending, but also through things like the statistics given to some items associated with them in the route.
Tumblr media
The same can also be said for Narrator Chara too. Such as how new special dialogue appears from the narrator if one were to attempt to talk to Asgore precisely 9 times.
Tumblr media
The idea that it would be their favorite number thus comes fairly naturally.
Next, the few following lines rationalise this association, all the while phrasing it in a way that reminds of their speech at the end of the genocide route.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, we have a few more minor implications.
Tumblr media
Asriel & Chara with flowers together may call back to this image :
Tumblr media
But it was also a very old concept, that could be found way sooner in Toby's concept arts for the game.
Tumblr media
While Chara's "creepy faces" are openly mentioned in-game.
Tumblr media
The friend is also refered to as "they", which may be noteworthy.
As for laughs...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The letter ends with
Tumblr media
...But alright, what can we learn from it ?
Quite a few things, actually.
First, obviously, Chara's favorite number being 9 feels more like confirming some trivia or association that had been noticed by fans a long time ago than actual true new information.
But it isn't the only noteworthy thing in this letter.
Here are some lines that i had cut earlier on :
Tumblr media
The last few lines feel somewhat unprompted from that initial context. But they may have secondary meanings.
First, they may be used to indirectly refer to a type of numbness brought upon by killing mentioned by Sans in his neutral judgments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, while that hint may have been intentional on Toby's part, it surely wasn't the main thing that the "in-world" Asriel who wrote this letter was trying to suggest.
Tumblr media
The main "in-world" intended meaning of this section was far more likely refering to this :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Chara did not ever tell Asriel exactly what happened in their past, Asriel seems to believe that the humans they had known did not make a good impression on Chara. Suggesting that they may have been abused or even have come to the mountain to disappear because of them. Regardless, this was all something that had worried Asriel regarding his best friend.
Of course, in the original game, those things remained mostly implicit or speculative. Asriel did not know these things for certain. And neither did we.
But bringing it back up today after so many years certainly feels like a very interesting choice on Toby's part...
Of course, this is all still from Asriel's point of view, which is limited. But metatextually, this is saying more than it looks.
Asriel associating Chara's favorite number the idea that with it, "Nothing can hurt you anymore" is a much more direct way of saying that he believes Chara was hurt by humans in their past than we'd seen before.
Again. This content comes from Undertale's 9th anniversary. It was pretty much Toby's one special occasion to show us content about Chara again. Which he actually did with this letter.
He only disposed of a limited number of characters or lines to either tell us something new about them, or give more precision/information about something which he believed was important for us to see.
From the metatextual context of asking "What was Toby trying to do by showing us this letter ?", him choosing to give more detail on Asriel's belief that Chara may have been abused of all things would serve no other purpose than to volontarily insist on pushing forward his line of reasoning to the fandom.
This suggests that Toby is very likely trying to tell us that Asriel is at least largely correct, and thus that the idea of Chara having been hurt in some form by the humans in their village is now significantly more likely.
Indeed, this had been an issue in some parts of the fandom. While that interpretation had been largely popular amongst most of it for a long time, there had been some voices calling out to the lack of clean proper evidence pointing to that which weren't somewhat speculative. So this seems a lot like Toby attempting to point us in the right direction. Seems like the simplest answer may be the right one, Occam's razor strikes again.
A new questions also now asks itself : Is this meant to suggest that this was Chara's motivation for power ?
Having power, so you are no longer weak ?
Not being weak, so you can no longer be hurt ?
A way of feeling "in control" ?
There were already some implication of Chara disliking to show weakness to others in the past. This would be coherent with those.
In such case, the genocide route may be a macabre recontextualisation of this original motive on Chara's part.
It might also be made relevant in the context of Chara's plan, though that deserves its own future post.
Besides, Asriel saying this highlights how much he cares about Chara. Which is always nice to see.
As a side note :
Between the demo and the final version of the game, the flavor text for the faded ribbon was changed from a regular one to one which raised a few eyebrows :
Tumblr media
While some people had tried to use this line as evidence of Chara having been abused, many other voices had (fairly rightfully) pointed out that this piece of "evidence" was quite fragile, due to things like other interpretations of it being just as plausible, the fact that it specifies " 'monsters' won't hit you as hard" which wouldn't fit Chara all that much, or simply the lack of other similar implications elsewhere in the game.
Now that we do have such implications, this argument, whilst still a bit of a long shot, is at least not quite as far fetched as it used to be anymore. The item is a thing which gives you DEF (increases your numbers), and prevents you from being hurt.
We are not quite done yet, though :
Tumblr media
These lines feel like they also have meaning.
Once again, there is an indirect reference to the genocide route, with 99 being the maximum value for things like HP, or the next required EXP to gain LOVE. When you have them, you cannot get any more. It is the absolute.
However, there seems to be another strange connection to make here.
What is the opposite of a so called "good memory" ?
Tumblr media
The bad memory is an item obtained from the memory head amalgamate.
It feels noteworthy as it, along with the "Last dream", are the two items in the game who's effects are theorised to have something to do with NarraChara in the way they are presented/work. (Suggesting that the memory/dream may come at least partially from Chara.)
For a reminder, the bad memory is a item that actually decreases HP by 1. Unless it is eaten on the brink of death, in which cases it restores all HP instead. Bringing it to the "highest number".
On top of that, this item also had a strange specificity to it :
It is impossible to drop it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With this additional context, one may draw parallels between the Bad memory item's effects and what Asriel is saying, only in a reversed way, and applied to Chara.
In the same manner as previously. The previously existing theories trying to tie the bad memory to Chara now find themselves being rendered more plausible. In fact, given that these lines directly follow the previous ones, you may even associate them to make the argument that the memories could be of Chara's past on the surface hypothetically. Though that would likely be stretching it.
Also :
Tumblr media
39 left.
Pretty impressive, the way every last line in this letter can be read as a genocide route reference one way or another.
And... the code of the page describe the contents of the page as "Here's a letter".
Tumblr media
This is also the wording used in the lines with which Toby introduces us the letter.
This wording of this feels very significant considering who the letter is talking about...
So i suppose that makes for even more NarraChara fuel to have Toby writing down such things.
Tumblr media
For one last thought, those couple lines.
Tumblr media
If one were to follow a certain interpretation of things such as "Mr Dad Guy", the "future of humans and monsters", and Chara's relationship with the concept of "efficiency" & "usefullness", then they might be readable as an allegory for pre-death Chara's view on their role within monsterkind & one of their motivations regarding their plan. (along with their hate of humanity).
And this odd insistance on the term "happy" throughought the message..Is there a chance it could be refering to those secret lines, stored within the game's code in the echo flower room number #9999 ?
Tumblr media
Some of the things mentioned in this post are somewhat stretchy admittedly. I am not yet certain of which ones of these would i actually argue for and which are only a product of first impression brainstorming.
Nevertheless. There are many many new ideas to explore regarding Chara now.
Thanks, Toby !

the whole thing's devastating in itself, but would you guys believe me if i told you this part specifically makes me so super sad
Tumblr media
flowey doesnā€™t allow himself to feel the snow. not really. he wonā€™t talk about how the cold steadies him, or how it stirs memories of simpler times. he avoids thinking about the quiet. the way the world slows down under the weight of winter, how everything feels softer, almost bearable.
the peace feels too close. too easy.
thoughts like that arenā€™t for him. perhaps they never were. they belong to someone else. and flowey doesnā€™t get to be him. not anymore.
so, instead, he ignores it. kills it in its infancy. turns away from the idea before it drags up pieces of a life he refuses to remember. he acts like happiness isnā€™t something that should happen to him. a mistake. an error in the system that needs to be corrected.
thereā€™s always this jaggedness to his words, something sharp enough to keep anything tender at bay. if something feels good, he cuts it down to sizeā€”turns it bitter, spits it back out as cruelty. itā€™s instinct by now, as natural as breathing.
thatā€™s what flowey does. he tears things apart before they can convince him he deserves more. after all, itā€™s much easier to laugh at the world than to feel it.
this is just the way things are. the way they have to be.
the softness never feels right anyway. itā€™s awkward, like trying to cup water in clenched fists. like touching something delicate with hands meant only to destroy.
heā€™s flowey. he has to be flowey. and flowey doesnā€™t get to savor things. he doesnā€™t stop to enjoy the way the snow hushes the world or let the cold bite just enough to remind him heā€™s alive.
he knows better.
there's almost comfort in that. in shutting things down, in turning them brittle before they can take root. itā€™s neat. predictable. safe. no dangerous hope worming its way into places it doesnā€™t belong. no warmth overstaying its welcome. just the same old ache heā€™s carried for as long as he can rememberā€”steady, familiar, dull.
manageable.
because if he let something good inā€¦ what then?
would it stay? refuse to leave? would it start to matter?
would he start to matter?
flowey knows exactly who he is. the villain. the failure. the one who tried to make things right and only made it worse. if there was ever a chance to be anything else, itā€™s long gone. whatever good might have existed in him has been buried beneath years of mistakes, smothered by everything he couldnā€™t save.
he had a plan once. a way to undo it all. make things right again. but it didnā€™t work. he didnā€™t work. he couldnā€™t save chara. couldn't save the monsters.
couldnā€™t even save himself.
and thisā€¦ this is whatā€™s left.
flowey. the version of him that learned to survive by not needing anything. the one who gave up on hope, joy, and peace because letting them in would mean the walls he built were never needed at all.
it would mean that somewhere inside, thereā€™s still something soft. something worthy.
and he doesnā€™t know how to live with that. heā€™s not even sure he wants to.
control is all that makes sense anymore. he decides when the pain comes, how much, and from whom. he decides. no one else.
heā€™s built everything on that controlā€”this image of who heā€™s supposed to be, what heā€™s supposed to feel. but what if he stopped? what if he let the bitterness go? what would be left?
just asriel?
and what would that mean? that there had always been another way?
no. he canā€™t let that be true.
so he copes. he compartmentalizes. keeps things boxed up neatly. flowey and asriel. good. evil. pain. hope. life. death. they donā€™t touch. theyā€™ll never touch. heā€™d lose control if they did. and control is all he has left.
he makes sure to break things down before they have the chance to become anything real. heā€™s always the one to close the door firstā€”better to leave than to be left behind.
if not, he might remember what itā€™s like to be exposed. vulnerable. weak.
and thatā€™s something he cannot accept. the possibility that asriel is still in there. that thereā€™s still a way back.
that maybeā€¦ he was never as far gone as he wants to believe.
itā€™s almost funny, in a way, because heā€™s already changed, whether he knows it or not. the fact that heā€™s still here, still witnessing the world after everything thatā€™s happened, proves heā€™s not as detached as he wants to believe.
the fighting stopped. the cycle ended. the monsters are free. and even if he wonā€™t admit it, even if heā€™s not ready to come to terms with itā€”thereā€™s a quiet kind of peace in that.
even so, he will dig in his heels. even so, he will play into the role in a war thatā€™s long over. even so, he wonā€™t let anything awaken the barest trace of what it once meant to be asriel.
he is flowey.
the snow will keep falling. itā€™ll land on his petals.
it doesnā€™t stay.
neither does he.
because itā€™s easier that way.

The Cost of Mercy
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is my 100th post, I wanted to do something special and I liked this idea. It was not originally going to be this long. (20 pages! Wow!)
Because this took me half a month to create, I think I'll probably do a little "making of" post just to discuss how the end result differed from my original plans for this comic. I wish I could say I have a backlog of art to post, but I don't, and this comic might have given me burnout.
Ughhhh, my stupid brain has been telling me non-stop how "talentless" I am and how all of my drawings look terrible and that made making this comic an uphill battle. But I did it, and I hope that eventually I can feel proud of it. In the meantime, I think I need to do a couple of art tutorials so my brain actually acknowledges that I've been improving.
(Update: took a break between page 10 and 11 which improved my mental state, I still feel it's important to acknowledge that time of low self esteem and how I pushed through it. Also, I learned what a pen stabilizer was on page 12.)
I deserve a small ramble about this comic, right? Actually, it's pretty much as long as the comic itself, so you have been warned.
Yeah, so, this was inspired by my Susie vs. Lancer comic. In that, Susie does not admit her vulnerability to herself in time and that leads to her making a mistake she regrets. I wanted to show Asriel showing false vulnerability (my headcanon of him being an actor coming into play here) and creating a betrayal similar to Susie's, only this one was on purpose.
"But Beryll," I hear you say, "doesn't Asriel think Frisk is Chara? Why on earth would Asriel kill his best friend?" Well, besides the fact that a) Asriel is both a god of hyperdeath and a LV 9999 maniac b) he's already killed Frisk dozens of times in this battle alone and c) the image of black silhouettes on a red background with a glowing white sword is too cool to pass up, I have a little interaction I couldn't fit in the comic that should explain things.
Tumblr media
That's my way of reconciling the whole "I thought you were Chara" thing when Chara and Frisk do not physically look alike at all. Remember, Flowey's genocide dialogue in the Ruins says, "I have a plan to become all powerful. Even more powerful than you and your stolen soul." Meaning that he knows this human physically is not Chara come back to life, but something in their mannerisms or something is so similar to Chara that Flowey convinces himself that they are. And in this comic, Asriel was so desperate for Chara to remember him that he takes Frisk's soul for himself, in the hopes that when they are reunited Chara will come back as well. (And he had to get up close and personal because of the soul's annoying tendency to crack before he can take it, also, glowing white sword. That's why I don't show the heart as broken on page 4, even though that would give the off the "dead" vibes more clearly.)
And now we come to the part where he says, "Hey, remember that time you wanted to kill all of those humans? Want to try again?" I think Flowey has been holding on to the whole "kill or be killed" mentality because he thinks it was his fault that he and Chara died. He fears being weak and being a coward, which is why he became a sadistic LV 9999 psychopath. Again, the whole acting headcanon thing that I rambled about in a different post.
Asriel's last memories of being with Chara are of feeling Chara's anger towards the humans, and when they finally reunite, he can't accept that, as a ghost, Chara learned to let go of that anger, having realized their own mistakes and realizing that it was their anger that got them into trouble. But Asriel has been holding on to that anger that wasn't even his own, all because he believes that it was his fault that they both died, since he fought against that anger.
So yeah, Asriel and Flowey's strongest emotions are actually guilt. Flowey's got a bit of survivor's guilt because he was brought back, albeit as a flower. But most of the guilt comes from convincing himself that it was his fault he and Chara died. That guilt causes him to reject all of the positive emotions that come his way and hold on to the hurt for so long that he hardly realizes it's there, causing that empty feeling that he thinks is a lack of emotions. But if he ever managed to actually let go of his guilt, he would realize that he actually can feel emotions. I have never believed that soulless = emotionless, given the way Flowey acts.
I just want to say, when Asriel resets in this comic, I'm definitely imagining a thing like when Majora's Mask Link plays the Song of Time, where all of the souls are leaving him like Link's items leave as he falls through the void, finally waking up as Flowey. Also, from a mechanics standpoint, Asriel has access to several save files when he's got Frisk's soul. He can reset to the moments after he got Frisk's soul, to when Frisk took away his control over resets, and to when he was first brought back as Flowey. He can't go further back than that because he can't go back to a time he didn't have that power. The only reason he can go back further than the moment he stole Frisk's soul is because of the enormous amounts of determination from all of the souls he has, both monster and human.
Okay, now I want to talk about the ending of the comic. All sweet and nice because Flowey's finally learning to let go of some of the things that made him evil and mean, right? I'm writing this ramble halfway through drawing the comic, so I'm assuming how that ends. (Also, if it's not clear, Frisk has forgotten their entire time in the Underground before. To them, this is the first time they've been down here.)
Well, that leads me to wonder, how will Flowey act since he has decided to be nice and stuff? Honestly, I don't know how the boss battles would go, but I think he and Frisk would develop a genuine friendship. He would hang around places he's pretty sure have save points, maybe give some tips and share a joke or two. Basically, imagine something like what he does for Clover in Undertale Yellow.
But, because we can't have happy Flowey, let's give him a new source of guilt. Now, Flowey lives in fear of Frisk finding out what he did, how he preyed on their sympathy just so he could kill them and steal their soul. He's been acting nice now, and enjoying their friendship, but he can't convince himself to fully commit to it (acting headcanon mention three) because he's afraid he might lose that friendship. Which is why, when Frisk chooses to hug and forgive Asriel, he refuses both, since he remembers what happened last time they hugged (on page 4) and he doesn't feel he deserves forgiveness when they don't even remember the truly horrible things he did. (Again, I'm not completely sure what the boss battles would have been like.) <Actually, I've taken a few days since writing this ramble and have figured it out but will discuss it in a future post.
But Frisk is a determined kid, and after they watch the sunset with everybody (and decide to live with Toriel of course) they go all the way back to the Ruins where this happens.
Tumblr media
I hope you are noticing the parallels between Frisk and Chara that help defend Flowey/Asriel's confusion, because I worked hard on integrating that. They are very much alike.
So, that's the end of my ramble. I guess a long comic needs a long ramble, huh? Despite my brain's attempts to convince me otherwise, I actually really enjoyed making this comic. If you did read this whole thing, good for you! I'm not the best at explaining these things in an understandable manner, so I know it might have been hard to read.
Also, January 16th is/was Appreciate a Dragon Day. So here's Douglas, who guards my things while I do art. (I did 6 pages today, so Douglas got plenty of work in.)

Note
hello howl! do you have any favorite hcs of killer that you or someone else created? do yap if there's a lot, my brain is deprived of killeršŸ„ŗ
Alright, this are mostly about Stage 2 because heā€™s on my mind. Feel free to add on with yalls own killer hcs.
1. That Killer has ADHD. Probably a stereotype born from fanon killerā€™s personality, but I like it if itā€™s done well. (Which i rarely see, but that has been changing recently!)
2. That killer is some degree of blind or in general has a hard time seeing. Makes me think his other senses would be a lot better than his sightā€”especially his vision worsens depending on what Stage heā€™s in.
3. That he and Chara did pinky wears and the pink swears were sacredā€”not capable of being broken or the other has the right to kill or torture the snitch however they want. (My HC.) (Alexa play secret)
4. That Chara gave Killer Asrielā€™s half of the heart locket/golden locket, the one that said ā€œbffs forever.ā€ Especially if Killer has come to associate it with control, and itā€™s the only way to gain control over a Killer who has been stuck in Stage 4.
5. That his SOUL is a record player of all his victims dying, fearful, hurt, painted, angry, hateful and frantic words. Or at least Killer thinks it isā€”as he constantly hears them in his head whenever he attempts to resist killing or hurting anyone in Stage 1, and the constant flood of internal degradation is overwhelming enough to trigger Stage 4. The last part seems be somewhat canon, but the record player isnā€™t.
6. Cannibal Killer, started by me, holds a little place in my heart.
7. Cathearted and Angelkin Killer. Love it. Angelkin was @justanidiotartistā€™s idea.
8. Princess Killer. As in there is a timeline where he and Chara overthrew Asgoreā€™s rule and became the royals of the Underground for a time.
9. That a part of Killerā€™s conditioning and training was being taught royal etiquette by Chara. It was framed and hidden under the disguise of learning something new, and a gameā€” a way to keep Killer entertained and avoid boredom, therefore keeping him stable while implementing further rules and structureā€”but of course it had its typical violence and the use of Resets was often if Killer ever made a mistake or forgot a single thing.
He was taught to hold himself and carry himself as ā€œsomething more,ā€ above the others in the Underground, but never above Chara and not as real as anyone else.
His spine is always straight, trying to maintain a composed demeanor even when leaning into his silly behavior and extroverted mask. He eats his food in a very specific practiced manner without conscious thought, using his hands and utensils in a specific way.
He only eats when the ā€œQueenā€ (Chara, Nightmare) eats, and stops when they stopā€”regardless of if heā€™s finished or not. Sarcastic, overly exaggerated bowing and signs of deference towards Nightmareā€”ā€œYour Majesty,ā€ ā€œYour Highness,ā€ in a deadpan, sarcastic manner.
And this oneā€™s a bit more canon, but he copies and mimics Charaā€™s ways of speaking in a formal mannerā€” such as how he says ā€œgreetingsā€ instead of ā€œhelloā€ or ā€œhey.ā€ Often more obvious when addressing those he views higher and above him, or when stressed.
Maintaining old habits of perfectionism and cleanliness despite appearing outwardly apathetic, as if he doesnā€™t really know why he does it, he just does. His spaces are to be ordered and clean, all gear and weapons done in a certain way, and itā€™s probably more than once heā€™s corrected the others gang members postures and manners of eating or speaking.
One thing Chara never managed to make him stop doing was putting his hands on the table. He did that then and heā€™ll keep doing it. (Somewhat canon. Bro always has his hands on the table.)
10. Killer has the same fascination with the number 9 that Chara does. My HC.
11. Killer with schizoid personality tendencies. My HC. (Bit more complicated than that.)
12. Killer is subconsciously drawn to heart imageryā€”especially upside down hearts. He will often absentmindedly trace them on his bones/carve them, or draw on paper. It calms down his body. Especially after having failed some type of missionā€”both when killing or refusing to kill.
13. He stims. Theyā€™re small and not noticeable if you arenā€™t looking, easily dismissed as something else, but he stims. My HC. (I like to think his whole clasping hands over the soul/chest in prayer gesture is a happy stim and a nervous one. And also finger guns.)
14. He is a romantic. But only in his own head and fantasies.
15. Golden flower tea..yum.
16. He treats his weapons and animals better than he treats actual people or himself.
17. Stage 2 will blatantly ignore you if you try to call him Sans. (Somewhat canon.)
18. Stage 2 is mostly apathetic and indifferent but also distrustful of children. My Hc.
19. Chara and Killerā€™s relationship has been through just about any type of dynamic you can think of. Creator/creation, parent/child (both have played this role), teacher/mentee, enemies, friends, partners. Anything but equals.
20. He is actually very good at knife tricks. Will only fail when he wants to cut himself on purpose, or wants to make someone laugh.
21. Actually a pretty good caretaker, at least physically. Mentally and emotionally tending to a patient needs some work.
22. GNC fashionita.
23. Believes having no needs will make him invulnerable and free.
24. That a more humanized Killer would have long black hair he styles in many different ways. Also that he has a hooked nose and still doesnā€™t look entirely human.
25. The idea that he gives himself something like tattoos that remind him of Color in his Good Ending. Gradient flaming heart rainbows like Jinxā€™s blue cloud tattoos. My HC.
26. Catlike behaviors. Yeah. Including being very petty and causing problems for no obvious reasons.
27. Various forms or presentations of pet or age regression depending on the Stage.
28. Hates feeling too exposed physically. āœØ body issues āœØ
29. Wouldā€™ve thrown the comfort plushie Color gave to him for when heā€™s Stage 1 away if it the plushie didnā€™t have an excellent texture. (Is the reasoning he gives.)
30. Acts of service. Just come to him instinctively. Very parentified eldest daughter coded I think.

Lifeafterdeath Ship Kid: Vidal!
Created by @sarcosticsarcomere and I, heā€™s a revamped version of Goth in both appearance and personality, given that they are now the son of Life as well as Reaper and Geno
Concept art for their design:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes I know the art is mid but if I could commission my favorite artists all the time I would be drowning in over 20K of credit card debt lmao
Nicknames: V, Vivi, or Vi
Follows True Pacifist Reapertale, making V the youngest of their siblings Frisk (aka Mercy; Lifeā€™s child), Chara (aka Faith; Reaperā€™s child) and Asriel (aka Hope; Lifeā€™s child)
Pronouns: Masculine, V identifies as a He/Theyby
Sexuality: Fluid
Height as a teenager: Over 6 feet tall
Personality and some background info: Vidal is a soft-spoken, socially awkward guy. Doesnā€™t say much, but once they open up to someone and are comfortable around them V could excitedly ramble on and on about their special interests. They had trouble making friends growing up due to being the demigod son of two prominent gods. As a result, when they first met Palette Roller and TK, they went by the name Valeria to hide their identity and befriend the other young skeletons.
Fun facts:
V can do goat blep, shift his eyelights to resemble a goatā€™s eyes, goat bleat, goat scream, and freeze like a goat when frightened. As a child, V adored affectionate headbonks and would play fight frequently with their siblings and parents. For their goat Mom and goat brother, it was a delightful game. For everyone else, sore foreheads were a common occurrence
When angered, Vā€™s eyelights morph into a goatā€™s eyes and take on a redder shades
Around 6-8 years old their horns and tail started to appear and grow.
When Vidalā€™s horns and tail grew out, they became clumsy due to constant struggle with their sense of balance. Theyā€™d become frustrated and give up on walking altogether and simply float. This lead to Lifeafterdeath using child leashes to hold onto their floating son while a grumpy V pouts with their arms crossed in the air like a huffy balloon.
They share Lifeā€™s passion for botany, inherited Genoā€™s love for astronomy, and mimic Reaperā€™s gothic aesthetic. However they are terrible with plants and kill every one they try to grow much to their dismay. They also often carry around a messenger bag for their scrapbook and journals to write about and press and preserve their favorite flora into.
Reaper preens V and their siblings and occasionally V will try and preen their friends or familial figures like Epic and Dream.
Palette Roller is Vidalā€™s best friend since they were young babybones. Theyā€™d often hangout together and when they learn about the otherā€™s infamous parents, empathize and soon become inseparable.
Whenever they canā€™t be watched by one groupā€™s parents, they are babysat by Epic, their ā€œBruhncleā€. V adores Epic and enjoys wearing fingerless gloves and boots as a nod to him.
Vidalā€™s Fashion Aesthetic
Best described as gothic cottagecore, Vā€™s color scheme consists of primarily white and black with some blue, green, and purple. Anything that has plants, a gothic motif, or celestial theme, V will wear. Sometimes V will have jewelry decorating their horns for special occasions like birthdays or holiday celebrations. Or when theyā€™re trying to impress their crush xD
Vidal x Palette: Canon
When Vidal develops a crush on Palette, they donā€™t confess their feelings because they have no idea if their best friend even feels romantic feelings, least of all towards them. Theyā€™re very close, but Vidal canā€™t tell if itā€™s platonic or romantic.
Palette knows they care deeply about V but has no idea what kind of love it is. Heā€™s unbothered by this. After all, his parents are all in a queerplatonic/romantic relationship (Hyperinsomnia; the romantic comes from Dream and Errorā€™s relationship) and happy and committed. As long as V is in his life and theyā€™re best friends forever heā€™s happy. Palette does experience attraction and think V is hot. Unlike V, Palette grew up in queerplatonic family, so romance isnā€™t something Palette has particularly experience in
They start dating before they confess their feelings, confusing everyone except Paletteā€™s family xD At first glance it appears as though Palette is aggressively friend-zoning V the entire time when it isn't his intention.
Some bonus funny screenshots regarding Palette and V from Sarco and my talks the other day:

i LOVE ur analyses (ur noelle + ralsei ones completely changed the way i view those characters) and if u ever started a yt channel for video essays i would BE THERE. ur art has a comforting quality that can be twisted into something disturbing/raw that i rlly like and admire. i wanna know more of ur thoughts on chara. i think they killed themselves bc of their dread of humanity + they thought what they were feeling (anger/vengence) was inherent to being a human and not a monster. thoughts?
thank you, that's very kind of you!! I don't think what I have to say would be very well suited for video essays though haha, it's just my personal readings of the text and I really don't want people to look at it and assume that I'm completely right, or even that I think I'm completely right. there are tropes and themes that I get particularly caught up in and I have my very obvious biases, plus when it comes to deltarune the story isn't even done yet..... I would hate for somebody to get totally invested in my interpretation and then get mad or disappointed if something that happens further in negates it. (that and my video making/editing skills begin and end with cutting together amvs)
as for chara..... (warning this is about to get heavy, maybe don't read if you're dealing with suicidal thoughts of your own)
.....always a complex question, especially when it comes to their death. I never really want to say anything definitive about them, because well, we don't actually know, do we? but this in particular...... with suicidal thoughts and ideation, you're always looking for a way to justify it. I don't think there was one specific reason chara went down that path, because there never really is. it starts with one thought, and then all the reasons you could possibly come up with start to clump together and form an unbearable weight. I think it's significant that chara came up with "the plan" after (accidentally or not) poisoning asgore. maybe it started with the guilt of hurting somebody they loved, which grew into the guilt of 'I'm such a burden to these wonderful people, they would be better off without me' which grew into the guilt of being human at all. but they still wanted to be useful to their family, leave them with a gift.... if their death can both free monsterkind AND destroy humanity, then really it would be worse of them to NOT die. that idea would stick in their brain and become a comfort to them- it's okay, because before too long, everyone I love with be safe and happy and I'll be dead, and I won't have to feel so awful every day. this is the only way to make up for all the time they wasted on caring for me. but then, of course, everything goes so extremely wrong..... I can't imagine the anguish chara would've felt in death, for not only failing but dooming asriel alongside them. they weren't thinking about the pain it would inflict on their family even if the plan had worked, or ever stop to consider that one day they might be able to feel better, and now they'll never get a chance to see it.
I think that also nicely leads in the main routes in undertale's storyline. in one, chara is a passenger on frisk and the player's journey, and they watch frisk inconvenience everyone they meet over and over but ultimately make their lives better just by being a friend and believing in love, which mirrors chara's own life and what they failed to see in it. in the other, chara is guided into dealing with their pain in a different way, by destroying it. the world is cruel, and unfair, and it hurts the good people while the bad flourish- better to do away with it entirely. if there's no life, then there's no suffering. if chara is all that exists, they become the nexus of pain. if they have to become a demon anyway, they can learn to love it. it's all humans are good for anyway. maybe this is easier than trying to fight it ever was.
but like, it's not, obviously. being a good person is hard sometimes, and it's even harder to be good to yourself. in the end though, if you give into hate and destruction, you'll be left with nothing but emptiness. whether through harming others or harming yourself..... either way you've closed yourself off from the world and your ability to experience the beauty of life, in all its faults.
okay I think I should stop there before I get too preachy or existential LMAO I hope that answered your question though! talking about chara is a dang rabbit hole. like, you're a creepypasta-ass character from a video game, why you making me think this deep. maybe if you werent so tragic and interesting I'd get less distracted, jerk.

As the story is going forward, asriel has been getting more on the 'Overprotective' and controlling type person. He has learned even guilt trip. How did you figure out these personality traits From canon asriel?
I took all of Flowey's worst qualities and watered them down until I felt a kid could logically embody those qualities, too. Flowey is, after all, Asriel at his absolute worst. And what are some traits about Flowey we know? He's controlling (like his save scumming in his omega flowey fight to always get the upper hand), manipulative (guiding you towards the best ending for his own plans) and obsessed with Chara (to the point of not wanting to live in a world without them). Heck, even at the end of the TP route when you fight hyper death Asriel, his monologue STILL depicts him as controlling and obsessed with Chara, even after he has souls inside of him again. (like him wanting to reset the world so that "chara" can never leave him, and they can play together for ever)
Asriel always had the potential inside of him to become Flowey with all those cruel tendencies, though probably the reason those tendencies manifested to begin with in the game's story was from him lacking a soul which then diminished his empathy after he died and was resurrected.
In the flashbacks of this comic, Asriel still has his soul (for the time being). If someone were to ask him if it was okay to control his friends, he'd say "no, that's wrong", but he also knows it's wrong for his friend to try and hurt themselves, and will do whatever it takes to prevent that. He uses his concern for their well-being as a justification to micromanage everything they do. In his mind he's "protecting" them, he's "helping" them, he's "saving" them, and that is a "good thing" so it "doesn't count" as controlling them. He doesn't even know what guilt tripping is. Let's also not forget that Asriel's a kid with little life experience and honestly doesn't even realize what he's doing is harmful in other ways. If an adult explained to him why his tactics for protecting Chara could cause more harm than good, he'd be truly horrified.
Sadly, both Chara and Asriel have each hurt the other (be it intentionally or unknowingly) which makes them both reluctant seek out help from adults. For Asriel, if he told his parents what Chara was trying to do, he fears Chara won't trust him or be his friend anymore. For Chara, if they were to tell an adult that they don't like the way Asriel is treating them, it would mean having to explain why he's treating them like that, which would also mean having to explain their plans of self-sacrifice, which they know would make the adults upset, and could potentially lead to punishment. (of course the Dreemurrs would never hurt Chara, but Chara just Will Not take that risk due to bad experiences they had in the past from their time on the surface). And tragically, their attempts to help the other in their own flawed, naive ways leads to each of their undoing.

Who is condemned to hunt
Tumblr media
Hollow!Sans ā€“ his nickname speaks for himself. His soul is always empty and unable to give magic or feelings. Hollow is doomed to absorb the souls of others to make up for his own shortcomings. He is similar to Ink!Sans, but is his most horrible reflection.Ā
Tumblr media
His story
He came from an alternate branch of Undertale, where Chara and Asriel didn't dare to come to the surface. This changed history and in the future, Sans became an ambitious royal guardian while his father Gaster conducted an experiment to create the perfect living weapon, which was to be humanity's deterrent to conclude a complete world. And that weapon by all tests became Sans himself. Sans' soul had to absorb the power of the CORE to make Sans the strongest monster in the world. But something went wrong. The CORE began to overload Sans's soul too quickly and subsequently collapsed and exploded.
The entire universe was wiped out and only Sans was left alive. Or rather, the skeleton that was Sans. When he woke up, the only thing that was with him was his soul. Empty, without a hint of anything left. And just as his soul itself was empty, Sans' entire personality and memories were also empty. No magic, no feelings. Nothing. Over time, this led to powerful psychological symptoms and dissociative identity disorder.
It would have gone on like that if a wanderer - another Sans - hadn't arrived in his world. He tried to help the poor man, but he was concerned about what was in front of his eyes - the soul. Without thinking, he pounced on his savior like a wild, ravenous beast and devoured his soul. Eventually he managed to feel alive for the first time in an unknown amount of time. Emotions, memories, magic. It all flowed through Hollow's body. And seeing through the portal of the murdered Sans a whole universe filled with souls, it was not hard to understand what had become of this universe. He later realized that he too had powers that could help him go anywhere in the multiverse he wanted. All he needed was his blood. So, Hollow absorbed souls from one world after another. Hollow began to learn his new powers, abilities, and slowly mimicked intelligent beings until he eventually resembled a Š³usual monster himself. Hollow began to perfectly mimic all the feelings that humans and monsters have. He gained an incredible amount of knowledge. He became practically normal. But behind this mask of normalcy still lives a predator that has only one goal - to eat souls, because Hollow is a Soul Eater.
Tumblr media
His personality
His character is extremely difficult to define. Initially there are no feelings or emotions in him, only a thirst to devour. However, when he is not hungry, he can be described as neutral as possible. Whereas the colors create chaos in Ink's character, Hollow remains neutral after eating souls. It's just that he gets the opportunity to impersonate others. He smiles, he's sad, he's angry, but all of these emotions are just copied from the souls. That can often be revealed by his eyes if you look closely. It's hard for me to explain how his emotional spectrum works, but if he was a character in a D&D game, he'd definitely have the Unaligned characteristic.
Tumblr media
As mentioned earlier, he may have a psychological attack causing dissociative identity disorder. But this only happens when Hollow is hungry, so he doesn't drive himself to such a state.
Tumblr media
His abilities
Absorbing souls
Hollow's key ability. You can visually see it on his face: lines running down his cheeks from his mouth. It's the separation between his lower and upper jaw. In normal conversation, he keeps them connected.Ā
When Hollow eats another's soul, it begins to digest in him and turns into a liquid that is extremely blood-like. Over time, this fluid disappears from Hollow's body, so souls are his constant diet.Ā
This power also includes the ability to see directly the soul of every human and monster, as well as grabbing it and ripping it out of the body without too much difficulty.Ā
Tumblr media
It's worth keeping in mind that each soul has a different fill percentage. Hollow has a limit of 1500%. If he goes over it, Hollow, like Ink, will vomit. The fill percentage also affects the eyes and appearance of Hollow's soul.Ā
Blood portals
From his liquid, if Hollow spills it and thinks about where he wants to go, a portal to the desired place will open in front of him for a while.Ā
Copying
Naturally, if Hollow eats some soul, he can temporarily copy all of its abilities. However, the longer he uses magic, the faster Hollow gets hungry again, so he tries to conserve his powers.Ā
Tumblr media
Multiverses dreams
Hollow's unique power. Allows him to find himself inside the body of another version of himself while sleeping. He will not control it, only watch it, which is comparable to a first-person dream. But this is not a dream, but an opportunity to behold another's Multiverse and its events. In each dream, he sees a random multiverse.Ā
Rarely does he get to see dreams where he sees snippets of the soul owners' memories.
Tumblr media
Additional information
Hollow has a personal list of multiverses that he keeps in his head that other versions of him know about;
It follows that Hollow's memory is incredibly phenomenal and is photographic;
Of his belongings, he carries a dark brown side bag in which he keeps: a clerical knife, bandages, a marker, and soul vials that he stole from the Science!Sans universe;
Hollow's blood portals can't lead to someone. Only to somewhere.
Instead of teleportation, Hollow more often uses Undyne's spears as a means of transportation, standing on them as if on a surfboard or skateboard;
Keeps a tally of the universes it has devastated under the Papyrus glove;
Hollow is the most unusable vessel for the Fresh Parasite;
Hollow's birthday coincides with World Food Day (16 October);
Under no circumstances will Hollow eat the souls of Dream, Nightmare and Error. For that reason, he tries to stay away from all of them;
His offical tags: #HollowSans, #Hollow_Sans, #Hollow!Sans;
You can read all the information about him in this Russian article.

hello I do not know anything about Undertale but I am interested in hearing about your children! I think I am in a similar situation with Little Nightmares, haha.
OMG THANK YOU I LOVE YOU!!! i can let this information out without feeling too annoying because now i'm answering an ask so it's fine !! it's going to be so long I'm so sorry, but what are we on tumblr for if not to rumble about our interests, right? also i hope the fact you don't know undertale doesn't make this too confusing !! also spoiler warning i guess ??
general world building:
the humans have forgotten about the monsters and magic, they are only remembered in myths and legends (i made a cool thing about it)
all of the humans had a similar experience to us playing the game, they learned about the monster history, made friends and eventually kinda gave up in hope to help the monsters
right so, first human: chara!
Tumblr media
chara is already in the game, but I think i made them the richest backstory
"chara" is a nickname, their name is actually character. they were bullied for that name and they really hate it, wishing they could get any other name (like what happens at the start of the game!)
they were named character because of an old tradition to name kids based on the first word you see in the spell book that runs in their family. however the book is encrypted, and their parents ended up on a random character they couldn't read.
they didn't get along with the other kids in school, and were trying to study their behavior so they can understand them better by taking notes of what they said and drawing their facial expressions (the way text is shown in the game!)
eventually, they came to the conclusion they don't like the other children and don't want to be like them, so they decided to learn how to push them away (by making scary faces!)
always get red eyes in photos
Tumblr media
next: patience soul! i'll be honset i wrote these stories 6 years ago, i think everyone had names but i don't remember them anymore, so all the children will now be called their soul trait gbfdjfd
patience was a girl from chara's village, and chara's only friend! or well chara was patiance only friend. their parents were friends so when they hung out patience and chara were left to play together. patience liked chara as she was home school and didn't get to play with other kids, while chara was mostly annoyed about the whole thing and felt like patience friendship wasn't genuine, as they were forced into hanging out
she really likes cute things, like dressing cute and putting on make up! she introduced chara to make up which ended up helping chara make scary faces (such as melty face look)
she wanted to be a Dr when she grows up, hence the toy knife (meant to be like a surgery knife for children) and the bandages at the flowey fight
when chara left to the mountain, patience just waited for them to come back. they waited and waited, until asriel got to the village. only then they decide to go to the mountain. they found out chara died very shortly after getting underground, and so lost their determination and was killed easily.
they got to the underground right after asgore declared war against humanity, asogre probably hoped it will take a while for a human to arrive but one fell down and was killed really soon! this just made more sense to me for why toriel left without talking asgore out of it, and why she hates him so much. things escalated really quick
Tumblr media
bravery soul!
youngest brother of like 5 older brothers and a single dad.
his brothers always bullied him for being soft and girlie (I also considered him being afab but im not sure !)
got the worn boxing gloves his dad used to have when he was young, they have big holes and patches
also maybe his mom died when he was born, and she was also a red head like him, which is part of the femininity stuff ?
as part of a prank, his brothers dared him to go to the mountain and come back to prove himself thinking he won't go, but he did!
didn't stay with toriel because he was in a rush to get home to prove his brothers he did it
Tumblr media
integrity!! this is where me not being a native english speaker gets me because I'm not sure what integrity means and it ruined their backstory a bit! I used to treat it as "being true to yourself" but now I think it's more about staying true to your morals, which is a bit different oops !
amab and nonbinary! their mom used to be a ballet dancer and now is a ballet teahcer
they were the only male student, and were jealous and hurt that all the girls got to wear tutus but them, and thought it wasn't fair
they sneakily stole their mom old dusty tutu from the attic and were secretly practicing in their room, until they were caught
they felt so guilty and ashamed that they ran away from home to the mountain
toriel reminded them of their mom, and how worried she must be, so they didn't stay with her
Tumblr media
perseverance!!
kindness' little sister!
while looking for books in the library, she stumbled upon and old and encrypted spell book (yes this is the book that was in chara's family!) after a lot of hard work she learned how to decrypt it using some context clues, and with it she learned about the monsters and magic and even a few spells!
when she tried talking about her findings nobody took her seriously, and people at her school made fun of her
even her brother was trying to be supportive but didn't really believe her, which prompted her to run away to the mountain to prove everyone the monsters are real and she's right
in the underground, she was able to use her spells! like the unused spell option in the original battle menu! she also befriended Gerson as they shared their love to history, and she gave him her notebook and glasses (as they were fogging up too much to see out of anyway) as a parting gift! (maybe she also casted a duplication spell on them, considering the infinite supply at his store?)
also she didn't stay with Toriel because she was focused on getting back home to show everyone she was right at that stage
Tumblr media
kindness!
perseverance older brother !
honestly, he's just a cutie that likes to cook! will often make and food just for sharing with his classmates
when perseverance was sad that nobody was taking her seriously, he went to make her favorite food to cheer her up. she wasn't answering him for a bit and assumed she just locked herself in her room because she was sad, so he gave her some time until eventually he decided to come in to check on her and realized she ran away through the window
he was probably a few hours behind her on the adventure, both as he gave her time, and he checked up a few places before going to the mountain, and he was more lost and confused than her when it came to exploring (also he was wearing flip flops still, which slowed him down)
didn't stay with Toriel because he was determined to find his sister, but then he found out she sacrificed herself, and decided to join her (both for the monsters and for her sake out of guilt)
Tumblr media
justice!! she's the only one I know their name! her name is mustard !! just like undertale yellow I was tempted to call her clover based on the "clover" shooting from her gun at the flowey fight, but actually according to the file name this is not a clover but a flower! and mustard has a yellow flower with 4 petals and it's cute !!
moved to the village near the mountain with her family only recently, and this was their first Halloween in the town! and actually her first Halloween ever, as where she used to live they didn't celebrate it
she loves cowboys ! her grandpa was an actor in old cowboy films, he passed before she was born so she only know him through these films, and thinks he was a real cowboy
the gun she has is his old gun, that she got from her dad for her costume
she saw a group of bullies picking up on a younger child and trying to steal his candy, so she jumped to protect him saying she has a gun, but that didn't go very well as that terrified the small child and made them ran away. she tried to ran after them but ended up getting lost on the mountain
didn't stay with toriel because she wanted to return to her parents who must have been worried for her
Tumblr media
lastly we got frisk!! i didn't get much background for frisk but more like a bunch of headcanons about them
probably homeless? and honestly, might have hit their head when climbing the mountain and suffer from amnesia, so they don't know their backstory either so it's fine!
really need glasses! explaining the small eyes and the whole game being pixelated and the small screen size, they just can't see
when asriel said frisk and chara have similar fassion choices he didn't mean like the striped shirt (as all children wear striped shirts) but like the way they have an under layer, cargo shorts for more pockets (also inventory space has to do with how many pockets you have!!) and boots !
fell underground the same age chara did, so like 10? and chara spent like a year underground
went to the mountain because it was some sort of a calling? they didn't really understand why but they felt like they needed to
also this is a headfanon but I'm for frisk and chara being far relatives!
wooo we did it all humans !!! now some extra general stuff:
the red soul's trait is love!!
all the humans came back to life after the asriel fight!!! and their body were fully healed and fine! Asgore probably bandaged them as he buried them in the coffins, and when they woke up (and opened chara's coffin seeing it's empty) they left their bandages there explaining the mummy wrapping that appear
considering it's been decades since some of them fell down, they had no where to go after this, and were all adopted by toriel! which also motivated her to open the school ! this idea of all of them being roomates and living together is what sparked all of this in the first place, i just really wanted to have a blog where people ask me things as them
at the end of the flowey fight, all of their soul traits "evolved", as seen with the color change when you ask for help, completing their character arc. all of them were helping flowey as part of their flaw, but frisk calling for help helped them change. for example, just as patience was always waiting to see what will happen, she wasn't trying to stand up to flowey, but she learned to be more brave and act! bravery learned to stop complying to every dare he gets and stand for himself and so on.
and that's everything i think !! if you made it all this way you get a sticker! i hope this helped with whatever boredom you were facing !
now i can stop worrying about how their story will never be out there, as it is now! and if nobody cares that's fine !!

Chara-cter analysis but I severely project onto them(prepare yourself for a wall of text, this IS the promised somewhat organised thoughts on chara as a character)
I really think they self-villanise as a coping mechanism, I really, truly do. All that calling themselves a demon? Dawg they are like at MOST 14. Of course theyā€™re going to be edgy about it asf/pos
If they can just convince themselves that they are truly just pure evil and that they donā€™t care nor feel guilt, then life can just be easier. This is supplemented by the numbing properties of LV if weā€™re talking No Mercy run, and very much hinted at in the newest newsletter lore drop about them.
At itā€™s core, I think this comes from their hatred of humanity. I think, as they are in that phase of growing up where you realise not everything is as pure and innocent as you were clueless to as a kid, they very likely have become dead set in their view that humanity is inherently evil. And, even if they absolutely hate it, they still are human themselves.
And so, in an attempt to escape both humanity and their affiliation with it, they fall into the underground. I also think that their manipulation and teasing of Asriel is a result of their defeatist mindset about already being rotted and evil by humanity so they might as well teach this naive ā€œcrybabyā€ what the real world looks like. Because they see their past self, the one before learning about the inherent evil of humanity, in him.
But alas, to what extent we canā€™t be sure, they atleast regain hope that maybe just maybe monsters are better than humans. And since they donā€™t see their life worth much(being a rotten human being, afterall), they think that the only way they can ā€œfixā€ the world is by exterminating the bad(humanity) and in the process freeing the good(monsters). So, the plan happens.
But, as we know, the plan doesnā€™t come to fruition. I really can imagine the pure spitting anger and frustration and hopelessness that Chara felt watching Asriel betray them for the sake of sparing the very humanity they hated. They just didnā€™t understand. Asriel really was naive, naive child.
And, after coming back, and seeing what Asriel had become(flowey), they lost faith in monsterkind aswell, this only made worse by how keen all the monsters in the underground are to attack the humans that fall down, despite them being children, the one pure, uncorrupted thing in their eyes. And under the orders of their adoptive dad, the one who they saw as the kindest being in existence, now yet another ruthless, heartless ruler(I also like how this then parallels them with Toriel, as I theorise they do take after her as suggested by them sharing way of greeting, whereas Flowey/Asriel shares Asgoreā€™s).
The world was better off gone, then. That would solve everything, right? And maybe, just maybe, if they destroyed the world then they would surely go down with it(intense self hatred and self-villanised complex wooooo).
I really think this recontextualises both the true pacifist and no mercy runs.
In the No Mercy run, like many have theorised before after a certain youtube video analysis on them, we only confirm their beliefs. Confirm that both monsterkind and humankind are rotten and only seek to destory one another. We confirm their suspicions that their purpose is to destory the world for everyoneā€™s good. And we give them the sweet sweet agent that is LV, and I do think they become addicted to it. It numbs their hurt, their pain, so perfectly afterall(undertale newsletter). And makes their job, their purpose, easier.
But in the True Pacifist run? Not only does our kindness show them that are is some genuine good in humanity, but we also gradually restore their faith in monsterkind throughout the run. From finding the genuine reasoning behind everyoneā€™s actions and helping them overcome it and find alternative solutions, all the way to Asriel-the very first monster that shattered their faith in monsterkind. Treating the problem at the root, so to speak.

I couldnā€™t find these in my previous posts soā€¦ if I already posted these- my bad >~>
Edit- I changed their weapons to Clubs instead of Spades cuz I thought that made more sense. Plus added a sketch of their eyelights
Some reference drawings UwU
Clover and Trefoil belong to me
Clovertale Story-
Humans and monsters were cared for by a God, Gaster. But the god had trouble caring for all his humans and monsters. They did what they want, whenever they wanted cause they werenā€™t punished for their bad deeds. So the god decided to create two helpers.
Clover, a sans who would reward good behavior by bringing good luck to those who earned it, and Trefoil, a sans who would punish those who did wrong by cursing them with bad luck.
At first, it helped. People began doing more good and being rewarded with good luck and those who were punished- learned their lessons quickly. All was good for years. But eventually, people began blaming everything bad that happened to them on Trefoil, even when he didnā€™t have anything to do with it.
The breaking point was when the kingdomā€™s human prince, Chara, died unexpectedly. The king and queen blamed the being of bad luck for taking their child away from them, when in fact, the human was sick and died cause of the sickness. Soon word spread that the bad luck sans had murdered the prince and everyone began to hate him. Everyone threated the poor guy, threw things at him, even tried to kill him a few times, causing Trefoil to break down. His brother was his only comfort at the time.
Soon it was so bad, the god decided it was best to get rid of Trefoil so peace could be restored. Even though Clover pleaded not to lose his brother, the god had began the process of deletion, ignoring Trefoilā€™s cries of fear and pain.
He was almost gone, but trefoil refused to die, using everything in his power to teleport himself to safety, being sent out of the au, his code glitching from him starting to be deleted and ended up in a voided area. Out of anger and spite, he now travels around, cursing anyone he meets with bad luck.
The god was not happy that this ā€œmistakeā€ had been let out into the multiverse and sent his brother, Clover, to go capture him and bring him back so he could delete him. Clover has mixed feelings about this and is having trouble fighting Trefoil every time they meet.
Extra-
-Papyrus is Gasterā€™s actual son, Trefoil and Clover were created by Gaster so theyā€™re like his sons.
-Trefoil and Clover were pretty much raised by all the monsters, being moved around a lot as kids and not really having a stable home life till they were adults.
- Gaster created humans and monsters separately at first, toriel n Asgore has Asriel and then found chara as a baby n adopted him. After he died, (Trefoil left the au) then Gaster created the other 6 humans to replace chara- but they all kept dying (while people thought it was cause of Trefoil- it was actually a disease that wiped out each human that Gaster didnā€™t know about). Toriel n Asgore divorced then Gaster created frisk as both another child and as an experiment to control the humans and monsters by using friskā€™s power to reset. But cause frisk still had a mind of his own- he was disobeying Gaster- so Gaster created Kris, the perfect human puppet that he could control completely when the human soul is inside of him.
-Trefoil and Chara were pretty close, Chara pretty much having a crush on Trefoil even tho Trefoil only saw Chara as a friend. Chara and Asriel are only a couple years younger than Clover and Trefoil (Chara was 13 when he died, Asriel 14, Clover and Trefoil 15).

I haven't finished it yet, but I watched some of it, and skimmed through the rest (I will finish though at some point; when/if I have the time), and what I did see of it the "Undertale Insomnia: Something Isn't Right" Trailer looks amazing! Ur art and the looks of the characters and the Blasters is on point and great as always! And ur animation is looking awesome too! I think ur comic already had some cool gifs/small animations, but if not; it is cool to see animations from u now too!
The Paps's (both older and younger) and his Casters and/or the Blasters are looking great in the trailer u released!
And Asgore (I think) and the fallen human kid(s) look great in some of the animation WIPs and/or whatever too!
I hope someday to see some of the other Undertale cast in animation form, or at least some of the other Insomnia important and/or etc. cast members like Sans (could be both older or younger), Gaster - before or after getting goopifed, lol (though, I think he might be in this animation and/or at least the full? one), Frisk, Chara, more of Blasters and/or Casters, and/or Alphys (I have gained a soft spot for ur Alphys). Maybe Asriel and/or Flowey too?
Not mentioning Asgore or the kids here, because I think u might have some stuff/ideas/etc. with them already. And not mentioning Undyne either, even though it would be awesome to see her too, bc I don't think she has been in the comic too much yet?
Ofc, u don't have to do any of this. I know animations, and animatics even, can take a long time! Just seeing the Undertale Insomnia (one of my favorite UT, and maybe just in general, comics/series's!) cast brought to life even more through animation like this, has got me excited! ^^
Last of all; I just wanted to clarify, the animation release is just the trailer, and not full thing, or...?? I just wanted to confirm.
Heya! First off thanks! That little tidbit is just a teaser more than a full trailer. IT's definitely not the completed thing. I didn't want to give a solid release time due to genuinely not knowing how long this all would take (at this point a little over a year- Good god). But I wanted to share at least a little something since this whole project has been so all consuming- that from the outside world's perspective I've been more or less absent. It's kind of hard to be active with other things when a singular thing both eats a bunch of time but can't be shared since it's not done X'D. It's a lot of behind the scenes work and not much to show for it yet.
Other characters will definitely be getting way more time to shine in the comic moving forward since I finally hit a particular turning point. Also regarding animations I have a lot of ideas for the other characters and the fallen kids that all more or less tie into the same world in a "how did we arrive to this point" kind of scenario. But due to how long all of this takes and I can't promise how many of them I will get to. Or at least how quickly because right now I'm moving at a blistering speed of _not very fast_ āœØ That said this one with Papyrus is absolutely being released (hopefully later this year) because if I have only one of these in the system it's gonna be for this guy XD The other one that I absolutely want to do as another animated update for Insomnia involves Chara and Frisk to answer what exactly happened at the end of the last run before this one. I'm hoping that since I've learned a lot (this is my first animated project) that that one will go a lot smoother. An account of figuring out a lot of things I Was doing that made my life INFINITELY HARDER. Hope that answers things.

I have a theory about why almost all monsters are okay with destroying all humans, despite one of Asgore's kids being a human...
Tumblr media
What if it's because they thought that Chara wasn't a human?
I'm probably wrong, cause it's a theory.
Tumblr media
But it would explain so much and somewhat fix the problems I have with Undyne, who was probably the closest thing Asgore had to a child after losing Asriel and Chara.
Tumblr media
Because you think someone close with the king would know how much Asgore still cares about Chara, thus that someone wouldn't enjoy attacking a human child so much, especially one that looks similar to Chara.
But if Undyne didn't know that Chara was human or didn't know Chara's existence at all, then her somewhat sadistic behavior would make more sense.
In her point of view, her kingdom had lost their freedom cause of humans... her king lost both his kids (one of them an adopted monster) cause of humans... humans were NEVER kind to monsters as far as Undyne knows!
But why would Undyne and the other monsters believe that Chara isn't human?
Tumblr media
Because of Gerson (and Asgore not doing anything to stop it).
Tumblr media
After Asgore's war declaration, many monsters cheered, but like the queen a great fraction of them aren't happy with going to war with the same species that Chara was.
To solve this, Gerson (with the help of other ancient monsters) got rid of most books about monsters and humans once getting along, leaving only the war books, then created books that paint humans in a more negative light while making monsters look like complete victims.
As it slowly began to work, Gerson also created a history book about the origins of Asgore's war declaration, including the death of his children, saying that Chara is adopted but leaving out that Chara is human.
Tumblr media
When depressed Asgore eventually found out about this, he is outraged at Gerson tricking the kingdom, but Gerson says that it's a necessary evil because the kingdom will be less motivated for war, if they all knew Chara was human.
And this war is giving them hope, something to live for.
Asgore doesn't like this but goes along with it, because he knew the kingdom will get into conflict against each other, if they knew the truth.
Asgore hides all pictures in his house that have Chara's face in them, except for the one where Chara's face is hiding in flowers.
Asgore's depression kinda made him a pushover, since he didn't stop Mettaton from messing with a statue (which could've been about Asriel).
Tumblr media
By the time Undyne was born, everyone believes that Chara was a monster like them.
Tumblr media
Imagine Undyne having a crisis about learning that Asgore had adopted a human... the same species Asgore is planning for war against... and one of her mentors has been tricking her this whole time, while the other did nothing to stop it.
Tumblr media
Gerson could've also tried his best to hide other information about humans and make monsters look like complete victims.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like how a monster absorbed 7 human souls, which started the first war.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or how some humans most likely died in the war, but the books are covering it up by saying 'no human souls were taken'.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or ignoring how humans allowed the monsters to live, even if it's inside of a mountain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or how it's never said that the power of dead souls needed to be used.
Tumblr media
Or how humans are stronger than monsters.
Tumblr media
Or how human souls are made of positive traits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if monsters absorbed human souls before, why didn't they use this power during the war? : r/Undertale (reddit.com)

i know undertale is like, almost a decade old at this point, even older if you count the kickstarterā€™s age, but i still cant get over how flowey/asriel is literally such a cool fucking character. heā€™s like a player that plays a game too many times and stops being able to see the characters as people as their brain sees them acting the same and doing the same things on each replay and how he loses his sympathy bc of that. and this makes him come across as a typical pure evil antagonist at first, but then you learn his backstory, and itā€™s all just, aghhhhhhhh. and then you learn in the genocide route that he helped people at first, he used to be kind, but he got bored, and how that contrasts the player on the genocide route with flowey, the genocide route where the player is now in the role of the pure evil villain, just like flowey was.
and also i love how the guy is literally just an edgy kid. like, he comes across as an adult at first, but the guyā€™s just like one of those cynical little kids who only wants to see the worst in everything. and how thatā€™s portrayed in the true pacifist route where he gives himself this edgy name and transformation sequence that feels like something a kid would come up with. tho the idea that heā€™s a kid does kinda come into question when you consider all the resets heā€™s been on, but even still he never got to grow up.
i wanna hug this lil dude so badly, even in flower form, he deserves a hug.
i fucking love this dude, heā€™s kinda like a pure evil antagonist, but actually has a backstory that makes you feel sorry for him and make his actions feel understandable, even if he can feel like some insane cartoon supervillain, his actions still feel reasonable with his backstory in mind. itā€™s like taking the idea of an unrealistically evil villain and asking yourself what couldve possibly made them that way
and his whole life as asriel with chara as a sibling. aghhhhhhhh, i love it.
and how in the beginning of the game he probably hasnt even realized his powers are missing yet, and that may just be a small thing but i find it a fun small recontextualization. that in this moment where you seem like youā€™re falling into his trap, he doesnt even realize that you have far more power over him than he thinks. and something i never even really thought about for a while is how he probably had a bit of a mental breakdown realizing his powers are missing sometime between your first and second time meeting him, and how he probably had to get himself all ready to talk with you again and come across as confident and threatening. like, thereā€™s no way he just brushed off the fact that his powers are missing so easily, his plan to use you to retrieve the souls probably helped him feel better, but thereā€™s no way this dude just brushed off losing the powers heā€™s been relying on for who knows how long so easily. he definitely got all angry and scared at his missing powers sometime between your first and second meeting, for at least a little while.
honestly, i feel like undertale didnt have enough of him. he deserved more screentime imo. which is why i was really happy to see his characterizationin done so well in undertale yellow, i fucking loved how that game built on his character. and his whole boss fight in that game somehow outdoing his boss fights in the original game. and how a lot of his attacks involve self harm in some way. and how he acts as the save points for the game so you get to hear a lot more from him throughout the game. i feel like undertale yellow gave me some characterization for him that i really fucking needed.
genuinely one of my favourite characters in all of fiction. would love to have a conversation with this lil guy.
