Oh boy here we go lol.

Alright so its title was "Seasons Don't Fear the Reaper". The cast went like this:

Persephone (goddess of spring) - Light. He doesn't know his actual parents, probably gods, but honestly he could have also just been another instance of castrated-testicles-fall-into-the-sea-and-make-a-hot-person, fuck knows. Aphrodite found a very pretty baby and adopted him. He cultivates gardens because he connects better with plants than people, likes to experiment with it, and he's not really ever let out of the house, so he doesn't have anything better to do.

Hades (king of the underworld) - L. He's the king of the underworld by technicality, but he actually devotes himself to and is seen as the god of posthumous justice, because he likes to spend his time unwinding murders back to the living for fun. I'll talk more about underworld worldbuilding in a hot second. Also, L grabs Light because the Oracle said that Light was the one, and L was like “fuck it, he’s hot”. There’s really no feelings on either side at first.

Aphrodite (goddess of beauty, love, sex) - Misa. If you know Aphrodite myths, enough said.

Charon (guide into the underworld across the river Styx) - Watari. I haven't thought about him too much, I just want him there.

Thanatos (personification of death, god of the dying) - Ryuk. He's going to be Light's first friend in the underworld, because Light isn't gonna like L very much at first lmao. He's also the one who tells Light about The Rule.

I don't have a solid plot but here are some bullet points I got going for me:

Light hangs out with mother-approved naiad friends at the base of a waterfall for a bit, until he manages to slip away thanks to an intense storm. Unfortunately for his bid for independence, he gets entranced by a red tulip (plucked) in his path, and stops to examine it. From where the flower left the ground, a hole opens up, until it’s wide enough for L to fly out, scoop Light up, and drag him down to the Underworld.

Misa comes back to collect Light, and discovers that he’s disappeared. She flies into a horrible rage and turns all the naiads into sirens as punishment. You bet your ass she throws a tantrum and murders some nymphs and shit. Also she makes the entire animal kingdom infertile out of spite (she calls it mourning).

Light gets to hold Ryuk’s death scythe bc That Image (he has a fleeting thought to just fuckin take it and run)

A scene where Ryuk is eating apples in the garden, (talks about human world apples being better but), Light reaches for one, and then the exposition about the rule with underworld garden fruit (i.e. it binds you to the place) bc Ryuk is an asshole but a good frien :)

A scene where we acknowledge the fact that humans are using the nickname "L" to avoid calling the death god’s attention by using his true name… L (“what is L short for, anyway?” and L just gets the most shit-eating fucking grin because humans really fucked that one up and he thinks it's HILARIOUS). This is rooted in superstition that actually surrounded Hades and Persephone at the time the myths were formed.

Anyway Earth's going to shit because Duh, and Zeus (just called the King, only ever going to be mentioned and the reader will never see him) finally relents to what he views as Misa's temper tantrum, because sacrifices have stopped, and humans are panicking because no babies are being born and neither are any of the animals they work with. I'm thinking maybe after 7 months, because that's approximately how long Light and L interacted face-to-face total in canon. The King tells L to give Light the fuck back. L does not tell Light anything about any of this.

L discusses a plan with Watari after a week or so of keeping it from Light (Zeus is coming to get Light that day) - Light was eavesdropping. Obviously, this is an asshole move so Light fuckin socks L across the face, especially since they had been kind of falling in love yotsuba--arc stockholm-syndrome style, so it feels like betrayal even though it's not at all surprising.

MY FUCKING NOTES-- ONE LITERALLY SAYS "Rain scene(?) Can it rain in the Underworld??". I've decided yes it can because I need that. Another one says "When Light first got brought there his whole scheme was just to escap but oh nos! It backfired!" 😭 help

Light weighs his options while in a garden, realizes he doesn’t want to leave anyway, and remembers the foreshadowed thing Ryuk said about food grown in the underworld (L didn’t know about this rule - it’s Ryuk that’s the crazy fuck bringing non-dead souls into the underworld and vice versa, just because L doesn't leave the house enough to think of that). He plucks a pomegranate, eats some, and goes to L and demands that they bring him to Zeus when Zeus comes.

The Underworld:

Souls don’t go on living after death - that defeats the purpose of death. The underworld, or the land of the dead, just stores the souls, which would be everything that made up an individual, but the souls can’t be conscious or anything without a body because that’s the other half of what makes a person. Maybe the souls should be like dim little stars? According to this one website I found, souls supposedly went down there to slowly fade into nothingness. I guess they would disappear when there is nothing tethering them to the Earth any longer. Coco-style.

The underworld is also supposed to be UNDER the earth, but it also seems to be imagined in the modern day as vast, with high high high ceilings and lots of mist at the top ig, although it’s dark and shadowy.

THE FUCKING FLOWERS hoo boy are you ready for this shit I spent fucking ages researching flowers I could draw upon within the story because Light is a flower boy and then used NONE OF THEM because THIS is what made me lose passion about this thing but here you are:

Anemone (red) - tragic love (sprung from Aphrodite’s tears mixed with Adonis’s blood as she tried and failed to save his life)

Baby’s Breath - everlasting love, or new beginnings (really good for weddings and births)

Basil - murderous intentions, or romantic intentions (apparently it started as a symbol of hate in Greece because the name recalled a literal monster, implicitly cursing the Basilisk upon the person you sent it to, and then morphed into a declaration of an intent to marry in Victorian England - an enemies to lovers arc if I’ve ever seen one)

Belladonna - silence, death, poison

Blackthorn Blossom - this plant made up Jesus’s thorn crown, but the flowers are gorgeous

Camellia (red) - honorable death, or eternal love

Carnation (pink) - heartfelt gratitude and motherly love (given on Mother’s Day in the West)

Carnation (red) - love (common Mother’s Day gift in Japan but romantic in the West)

Cherry Blossom - rebirth, renewal, spring

Chrysanthemum (white) - death, mourning, grief, devotion, loyalty (funeral flower, especially for those who died young)

Daffodil - prosperity, or rebirth and spring, or regard and esteem (also called the narcissus)

Daisy - childhood, innocence

Hibiscus (red) - love, delicate beauty, brief existence (withers within a day of blooming)

Orchid - fertility, elegance, charm, beauty

Poppy - consolation, eternal sleep, peace in death

Rampion - the German word for the plant is ‘rapunzel’

Rose (red) - romantic love, desire

Rose (white) - innocence, virtue, purity

Spider Lily - final goodbye, death, funerals

Do you have any idea how much fucking time it took me to research these goddamn flowers fuck you Persephone and fuck you Light

Tulip (red) - a love confession, passionate love (apparently created from the blood of a Romeo-esq dude in Persia who committed suicide when he falsely believed his beloved had died)

Violet - watchfulness, modesty (created by Artemis to protect her nymph from Apollo’s advances)

Theres an argument concerning Light having good reason to trade the notebook for Sayu outside of him loving her, and specifically that’s it’s not the only reason (or the only reason, in defence of the claim that he doesn’t love his family) that he personally does so.

That he has no leads on who the kidnappers are and what they’re capable of doing unless he’s willing to take the risk with the trade as he does.

This is wrong from a characterization and personality standpoint to me, even though I agree and it’s proven canonically that it’s an advantageous compromise in Light’s favour anyway.

And it’s wrong because Ohba makes it very clear that if it were Misa instead of Sayu, somebody who is far more useful to Light in his schemes by default of the shinigami eyes, Light would likely snuff her out. Which is why he chooses Sayu to emphasize this aspect of his character.

He doesn’t want to trade the notebook and is sweating bullets about doing it, but he does it anyway only because…he loves Sayu. That’s it. If we’re going to make the argument that Light is the kind of person to play high-risk-high-reward, he would play it in the form of telling the kidnappers to do their worst first.

His whole thing up to this point is that people are going to die, and that’s a sacrifice he is willing to make…until it’s his beloved little sister.

Everybody was on board with not letting their personal feelings and losses get in the way of keeping the death note out of criminal hands until Light threw himself under the bus by suggesting that Kira has access to NPA intel.

And if he hadn’t, Mello could only take so many small hostages until he’d be forced to make a bigger move that would’ve exposed his affiliations. Light would’ve been confident in this route until it became about how he felt. Which was protectiveness over Sayu.

This is becoming a Vicious Death Note AU blog now great. Might as well just put down some bulleted ideas in no particular order instead of doing this one post at a time

- Eli as Light (enough said)

- Victor as L (no real reason for this other than he's Definitely not Light and he has enough similarities with L to make it work)

- no clue who the shinigamis are. Maybe they're just the same as usual. Eli and Ryuk interactions would be funny

- For the Shinigamis maybe something to do with Marcella and June?? Maybe June likes Serena for some reason? It feels like there's something there but I haven't gotten the right formula yet

- Really not sure where to put Angie. My original thought was Misa but Serena fits that role better

- Eli still killed his father but he gets adopted into another family that doesn't die

- does this mean he gets adopted by Stell??

- considered giving Sydney the Light's little sister role and I do think that would be interesting but would be pretty weird if Misa was Serena

- Mitch is the hacker behind Victor's detective. Maybe they're both criminals who've been given the opportunity to work with the police for their freedom? Or maybe they're working there for other reasons

- Victor and Eli were law students instead of pre-med. Whether they knew eachother before or not is up in the air. The main problem with that would be Eli knowing Victor's name

- Kira = Ever, L = V

- Eli and Victor mind games

- Need to brush up on Misa Misa lore but uh. Maybe Serena left Sydney behind in a neglectful home to go to college and there was a break in and Eli coincidentally killed the intruder before Sydney could get hurt so Serena wants to work with Ever both because she's grateful and because her ideals align with his

- Maybe Sydney runs from the home after the criminal dies and bumps into Victor and then Victor takes her in?

- Victor picks up on the hidden darkness in Eli almost immediately

- he's still religious. Somehow. Being told that he can't go to heaven or hell because of the death note is jarring at first but he copes by convincing himself that this is his god-given duty and the consequences are worth it. He's just more determined to do all he can while he's alive. At the end of his life he has his revelation that he was wrong and it was all useless

These are all just ideas. I'm 110% open to discussion on this. If you've seen Death Note but don't know Vicious and Vengeful, I recommend reading the books. If you've read Vicious but haven't seen Death Note, I recommend watching the anime and then also listening to the musical because it goes hard. If someone wants to take this idea, do whatever you want with it it's taken over my brain

Making it to the apartment without anyone seeing his bloodied shirt and suit jacket was a challenge but he'd managed to avoid high-traffic areas and ducked down side streets when the situation called for it. Both notebooks — he'd retrieved Misa's original one of Near's SPK agents — were hidden under his jacket, away from the blood staining his left side. Light was certain he had two bullet wounds; one on his shoulder and one in his upper body, near the collarbone. He couldn't be 100% certain until he could have a moment to think through what had happened.

Damn it, Matsuda.

Upon the door opening, Light quickly darted in and locked it behind him. Misa was so loud. If she started shouting about calling 119, she'd attract the attention of everyone in a one mile radius. He took a second to lean against the door, his strength fighting to remain in his body.

"No, don't. And keep your voice low."

He whipped off his suit jacket and threw it to the floor, emotions still high. Without offering more of an explanation, Light held out Gelus' notebook and waved it slightly, urging her to take it.

"Take this."

As soon as she did, all of her memories of her time with the notebook and of him as Kira would come rushing back. It would be a shock and painful but it was necessary if they were to continue on.

"Kim Chae-young." One of South Korea's promising female politicians, an ex-idol who ran on a progressive platform, promoting women's rights and mental health. He didn't know much about her, but from those few headlines and highlights alone, she appeared to be a good person. She held no public opinion of Kira, and so there was no real reason why she would be considered an enemy.

Desperate times would call for desperate measures.

Jack didn't like seeing criminals like him suddenly be wiped from the earth in this mass-cleansing started by the mysterious figure of justice, but he couldn't deny their influence on the world around them. America had even declared subservience to Kira out of fear.

He was a touch jealous. He could admit that -- to himself, silently, and no one else. But once this elusive figure proved to be as endurant as they were, it was time to come to terms with the reality: If Jack wanted to continue his business, he would have to form some sort of alliance with the so-called god. At least until he figured out how he was doing what he was doing.

"You may want to write her name in English, too."

Misa Amane was at peace.

Well, she was definitely struggling at the moment to fold this STUPID FITTED SHEET, but otherwise? Everything was wonderful. She missed Light for sure, but she understood he was busy with the Taskforce. Always getting closer and closer to catching Kira!

It was a little disappointing, seeing as how Misa herself believed Kira to have good intentions...but if Light wanted to catch him, then she would support him! Like a good not-yet-engaged wife that she was!

When there was a knock at the door, she gave an aggravated sigh, but otherwise was relieved to have a reason to give up on her current task. Glancing at the clock, she headed back over to crack open the door -- then let out a shrill half-scream, half-gasp when she saw who it was.

"Light?!" She nearly ripped the door off its hinges as she threw it open, ushering him inside. "Why are you covered in blood? Are you hurt? Should I call 119?!"

Takes place before Yotsuba arc. Light is still pulling his old "I'm not Kira but I sure will help you find him >:)" bs except now him and L are starting to develop... fEELINGS?!?

At first Light is pissed. He's got no time for love as is but falling in love with L? That just complicates everything

A night of bad decisions results in Light getting L... Well... You know.

At first he's panicking he's crying he's freaking out. None of this was P A R T O F T H E P L A N

Somehow hise concludes that yes actually this is great because how is L going to suspect his own baby daddy of being Kira? New plan in effect: Make family with L.

He tells Misa about this. At first she goes apeshit because he just blatantly decides to blow right past her and be with someone else?! Get 'em!

But of course as soon as he explains that he's going to be a father soon, Misa is like "understandable, have a great day" and somehow forgets she was ever upset because now she's gonna be Auntie Misa.

Somehow they completely forgot to tell Soichiro about any of this.

Their first baby is a girl, Amaya. She's immediately Misa's best friend

What would sonic do with a Death Note?

He’s got good intentions but we know how the death note makes people

Would sonic be able to kill anyone aside from eggman since barely anyone else is human?

Are we setting this on earth or in sonic’s world? I’m rooting for earth and the shinigami had no clue what they were getting into, how were they supposed to know about the little alien hedgehogs. Sonic X world probably since that’s something we’re familiar with.

OOH Chris being the closest to figuring out the identity of Kira because he’s so SMART or something and then Sonic has to kill him?

And Sonic has told Tails about the death note and all because they’re good friends but since Tails looks up to sonic so much and loves him so much he goes along with it, but he’s having a moral dilemma that really increases once Chris dies

Would sonic be able to kill robots? I have two thoughts:

The death note can kill the anthropomorphic animals and humans but not robots

The death note can kill the anthropomorphic animals and humans as well as the sentient robots like omega

If Shadow were still in his revenge against humanity thing he would trade for the eyes because he’d do anything to get revenge on humanity for Maria’s death

But once he’s in the protect humanity for maria phase he’d be so so against use of the death note, setting him up as a good replacement for L mayhaps?

We could have the sonic team all looking to catch kira but kira is actually sonic, like how it is in season two of death note

Eggman is after kira too but for the purpose of obtaining his power

I want knuckles to be important because I like him - master emerald? But death note hmm

Should we connect the chaos emeralds to the death notes or should we replace chaos emeralds with death notes?

Maybe he wants the chaos emeralds to ensure his power and that’s where we can bring in a conflict with knuckles later?

Chuck will die too because “he was on his way out anyway”

Story is written in the past tense but every death will be written in the present tense because every death will be written just as Sonic or whoever writes it in the death note

When Rem drops the book for Gelus for Misa to pick up, Silver’s gotta come in to get it before her. We’ll say he knew about the book before from sonic or something and now he wants one and wants to ensure the humans dont get any

Ryuk is bored as hell, this has already been established whoops whoops there goes the death note down into the human world goodbye

But he accidentally drops it into a pretty rural area so no one is there to pick it up

Except SONIC on one of his funky little runs he’s running and he ZOOMS right past the book but then skrrts right back to it and “huh? Death Note? Hmmm” in his sonic voice and then he reads the rules in his sonic voice

And of course he immediately believes it’s real because he’s sonic and he’s always right and also he’s a magical alien hedgehog why wouldn’t he believe it

He starts thinking about it, its possibilities

This would be a great tool to use to save the world from eggman… but do I really want to kill him? Sure he’s a bad guy, but does he really deserve to die?

AND THEN eggman’s next evil scheme unfolds and him and sonic are in one of their little battle confrontations and eggman is giving his evil speech where he’s all cocky and confident and sonic is just like

Are you sure you wanna do that eggman? You know I could defeat you in a second!

And everyone thinks it’s just Sonic’s classic cockiness but little do they know

And then battle commences and eggman’s in one of those robots he walks around in and they’re going blam blam blam like they do

But oh jeez eggman’s really upped his game these robots are hella, lots of civilians are being hurt

Sonic internal monologue time

I could so easily stop the destruction now! So many people are getting hurt and I could end it in a second … alright. This is the right thing to do.

So sonic zooms away but he’s so fast no one knows where he’s gone uh oh sonic where are you!! - tails

And then eggman’s all “look like your hero has fled from the battle-” and then his robot explodes and boom goodbye dr eggman

ALTERNATE IF YOU WANT TO INCLUDE EGGMAN LATER IN THE PLOT

Eggman’s off to the side but infinite is fightin sonic and crew, infinite says that last line but gets cut off as his little power source thing in his chest explodes that’s called a robot heart attack i guess.

But probably not because ew sonic forces

So then everyone is like,,, oh my god he’s dead

And Sonic’s all like “oh man, how did this happen, man maybe I shouldn’t have beat up his robot so much I never intended for this to happen”

And everyone is a little somber because yeah eggman was a bad guy but they were friends in a way, they had fond memories.

This starts sonic’s spiral down the rabbit hole of immorality.

He maybe has a little moral dilemma

Oh my god I killed him… it’s just like killing one of his robots right? I mean… some of them were sentient too… but he’s human, but so were all the civilians he was killing… it was for the greater good, he’ll never be able to hurt anyone ever again.

...There are other people out there causing harm to the world. It’s delusional to think that the world will be peaceful now with eggman gone. He was just one contender in the ring, a formidable contender for sure, but there are others left. Others who will hurt others and make this world rotten. I could save the world with this! I’ll make it a better world for people with good hearts!

Oh Sonic why are you like this

And then he’s gotta meet Ryuk!

So Ryuk’s like alright it’s been a couple days I should probably go down there and check on my notebook.

and Ryuk’s like okay there it is to Japan we go and he shows up to where Sonic is laying on the roof of Chris’s house

And Ryuk lands on the roof and Sonic opens his eyes and is like Woah! You’re a funny looking guy!

And Ryuk is like what. the hell are you. “Likewise. I’m not sure what I’m looking at right now.”

He stands up to do his introduction. I’m Sonic. What’s your name?

I am the Shinigami Ryuk. I believe you are the one in possession of my notebook, Sonic.

Notebook? Now I don’t know anything about a notebook.

There’s no reason to lie to me, nobody can see or hear me but you. Even if I wanted to tell others of what you’ve done, there’s no way I possibly could. Unless, of course, others have touched the book.

Alright, I’m choosing to trust you here, mister shin salami. And nobody else has touched the book, I’ve kept it with me the whole time. He says, pulling the notebook out from his spikes. See?

(Sonic is constantly pulling chaos emeralds out of his spikes it doesn’t make sense but I’m sticking with that I’m just saying he can store stuff in there somehow)

Tails - I’m not sure about it. It sure does make our job easier but I don’t know if it’s right, or if we can trust Kira to stick to only killing criminals.

Amy - Well I’m glad for it! The less bad guys there are to stop, the more time I get to spend with Sonic.

Sonic’s thinking - Eugh, maybe I should get rid of that Death Note.

THen Tails says whatever he says to indicate to Sonic that he needs him on his side or whatever “I just think it’s strange that..” or something

Tails - I was giving some thought to this idea: what if Kira’s first kill was Dr. Eggman? I thought it was strange his robot just exploded like that, especially since we hadn’t even done that much damage to him yet. His voice gets quiet, to himself and more thoughtful. How strange would it be if Kira’s first murder was during our battle…

Amy - She turns to sonic. All I know is no Eggman means no excuse not to spend time with me.

They head out, leaving a dejected Amy behind them.

Tails is smart. Sonic knows this. He knows if he wants tails on his side, he needs to tell him before he finds out on his own.

So like after a moment where tails shows signs of suspicion (he’s not like oh my god is Sonic Kira??? He’s just like huh that’s strange…), Sonic has a little internal monologue because mm mm we love internal monologues, a side effect of the death note

So he picked up on that, huh. Tails sure is smart. He’s not someone I want as my enemy. “Tails can you show me the progress you’ve made on the X Tornado?” “Oh! Sure!” and then they’re in Tails’s workshop , looking at the Tornado...

Tails, would you stick by me through anything?

Of course! We’re best friends!

Sonic laughs. That’s right buddy! We are best friends! I really appreciate how loyal a friend you are, no matter what.

Of course I’m loyal to you Sonic! You’ve been nothing but kind to me, and you never fail to impress me.

Aw, thanks Tails… Can I show you something cool?

Tails’s eyes light up and he laughs. You better!

He pulls out the death note and holds it close to his chest. A book? Sonic slowly lays it down on the workbench. Death Note? What is this?

Tails reaches out to touch it but Sonic picks it up real fast

Woah there! Don’t go touching things you don’t know what they are!

Well what is it? You don’t seem the type for journaling.

Sonic opens the book to the first page he wrote on, where Ivo Robotnik and his cause of death are scrawled across the page in the handwriting you’d expect from someone writing at the speed of sound. He hesitates for just a moment before turning the book around displaying the page to Tails. Tails takes a moment to read it.

That book… kills people? Sonic nods.

Did- did you write that? He asks, pointing at Eggman’s name. He already knows the answer.

Sonic’s tone is gentle. I had found the book just moments before, and then Eggman was creating destruction unlike what we had ever seen from him. He was hurting so many people and the universe had just handed me the power to stop all of that pain in a second. I pulled the trolley lever and ONE died instead of dozens. Hundreds, even, if you consider all Eggman could’ve done in the future. And I realized, with this power, I can make the world a safer place for innocent people, people like Chris. You can understand that, right Tails?

Tails is silent for a second, seemingly at a loss for words. I… I know you have nothing but good intentions ... If this is what you believe is right, then I trust you. I said I’d stick by you through anything, and I meant it.

Tails, you really are the best friend I could ever ask for.

So with Tails by his side, Sonic continues the murders of criminals.

Right after Tails and Sonic have that conversation, I want this part right at the end of a chapter, closing it off suspensefully

Cut to shadow, standing atop a building and gazing down onto the streets, more peaceful than he’s used to. He does his angsty little shadow huff and looks to the side, going into internal monologue mode

The silhouette of a hedgehog stands against the warm reds and oranges of the setting sun. The dark figure gazes down from its perch upon a rooftop to the city below, a city much more peaceful than it’s used to.

I made a promise to Maria to protect humanity. Kira’s done well to bring a superficial peace to our world... but his judgement isn’t divine. Peace created from fear is not peace at all, it’s despotism. If Kira ever had a goal of world peace, it’s been crushed by his lust for power. Kira must be stopped. And I, for Maria, will be the one to stop him.

And in the blink of an eye, the shadow was gone.

But like tails is no way in hell sticking by sonic through ALL of the murder

Like yeah we’re gonna have a bit where tail is using BRAIN to help sonic get further with his plot and this is where we’ll build the conflict between sonic and shadow but like,,, I want tails to be sonic’s downfall

So like,,, i want to explore the immense guilt that tails is going through. it’ll be practically debilitating for him, which just makes him more and more vulnerable to sonic’s manipulation, building his glory in tails’s eyes, guilting him into staying alongside him, etc etc. Tails has moments where he believes in sonic and justifies all he’s helped with to soothe his guilt, he has moments where he mourns his innocence, blames himself for allowing sonic to continue, feels like he could’ve stopped it sooner but still can’t bring himself to

BUT he eventually has to. Perhaps after chris is killed. Maybe we won’t do anything with chris. I don’t particularly like chris, idk. And once tails has built up the constitution to go against sonic, he plans carefully. Tails has never been one to go into something without thinking it out first. And though he mourns his friendship with sonic he knows it has died bit by bit with each death they caused. Or maybe it died with eggman at the very beginning. So Tails builds up bit by bit his evidence against sonic. What he would like most of all is a confession, a confession where sonic admits and believes that what he’s done is wrong. He wants to see that sonic still has any good left in his heart, that he hasn’t snuffed it all out in his quest to become a god. And Tails knows that with building his case against sonic he’s also gathering evidence of his own guilt, but while he feels used and misguided by sonic and is very bitter over it he needs a punishment of some sort to calm the guilt

When sonic is eventually pinned by the evidence I want Tails to be very much like matsuda in the last episode of Death Note. Tails doesn’t get the remorse or shame he wants at all, sonic is PROUD of his wrongdoings, views himself as god. He’s disgusted with the one he called his closest friend and devastated at how much he’s been corrupted, wonders if he was EVER a good person or if the monster that has come out of him was just hiding all along. Did sonic ever help people out of goodheartedness or was it always out of desire for glory? And how does he laugh so carefree and lighthearted like it’s all meant nothing? Is all the death just a game to him?

But that’s very endgame what’s happening with shadow

Ok so we need to establish his backstory. Shadow lore is essential for his character motive. Maria. ARK. sonic adventure 2 etc etc etc ok now we know why shadow is angsty and why he wants to not let people die. Antihero time baby!!!!!!!

Okay this can be the start of the chapter after shadows introduction, or one chapter after that and we can have a chapter in between about tails and sonic’s collaboration. I don’t know, I don’t care I’m probably never actually gonna write this. Maybe I will, I hope I don’t I don’t want to have written a sonic fanfiction

But anyway shadow backstory section over did I establish whether or not hedgehogs can be killed by the deathnote?? Cause,,,, everyone’s name is kinda out there or really easy to guess. It’s just like,,,, [adjective that directly describes subject] the [species]. Is everyone named like tails where they’ve got a secret white person name and the name everyone calls them is a nickname? No way in hell knuckles’s name is knuckles.

Yknow i think it would be cool if shadow tested this and then let me know.

So kinda like how L figured out what Kira needed to kill we’ll do the same with shadow. Shadows willing to take some sacrifices for the greater good, ok lets sacrifice big the cat

I’m wondering then what sonic’s goal will be with eliminating shadow, since I definitely want the main conflict to be a battle of wits but there’s no hidden names to be sorted out with this

My Pirate Lord and Our Life Ch. 36

Chapter 36

It took about a week of travel time for us to reach Azuchi. When we arrived I was given my old room, as well as reinstated as chatelaine and a castle seamstress...not that Hideyoshi nor the castle seamstresses would let me do much of the work. No one wanted me overworking myself in my condition after all.

Every time someone mentioned it that way, Misa and I would roll our eyes. I wished they would let me do more. Working helped me to keep my mind off of things. It have me something else to focus on. Granted my thoughts were never far from Motonari. Wondering where he was. How he was doing. Hoping his wound was healing alright. Wondering when I would be seeing him again and when this nasty business would be over with.

Misa was also given a room in the castle, though she elected to stay in my room with me. She knew that nights were even harder for me. When I had absolutely nothing to occupy my thoughts and could only think about how much I missed Motonari and just wanted to be in his arms. She's had her futon brought in and laid out next to mine and would talk to me about all manner of things until I fell asleep.

On this day, I was wandering around the castle and honestly feeling a bit guilty about yelling at HIdeyoshi when we'd all been on the ship and I'd found out he and Motonari had wounded each other. For his part, Hideyoshi had acted unaffected since we'd returned. Going into overprotective big brother mode.

Without really deciding what I was doing, I started looking for Hideyoshi. I found him in one of the spare rooms, trying to clean and redress his wound. His golden eyes looked at me in surprise. "Let me help you with that." I offered before he even had a chance to speak.

"I can go ask one of the healers. I can't let you help." He replied.

I walked over to him and took the rag from his hand. "Let me help at least one of the people I care about."

"Alright." Hideyoshi agreed with a sigh.

I dipped the rag in the bowl of clean water he had beside him and began to clean the wound. The bullet had gone clean through his shoulder. The wound appeared rather nasty, but still looked relatively good after a week of healing. "I'm betting wounding each other wasn't too hard for you and Motonari." I said, trying to keep my tone light as I cleaned his wound.

Hideyoshi coughed out a laugh. "I am sure that's why he asked me to do it." He agreed. "Originally, I was supposed to be with Keiji and it was Mitsuhide who was supposed to face Motonari and Kicho."

"But then Motonari approached you and asked you to come after him and wound him?" I replied.

Hideyoshi nodded. "Yeah."

"I'm betting he said something like, I know ya've been wantin' to kill me fer a while now, so how's about I give ya the chance ta at least stab me and make it a good attempt?"

"That's almost word for word what he said." Hideyoshi admitted. "I'll admit it didn't take too much convincing...the only part I didn't like was knowing you would be upset."

"I don't know why...I was so surprised to find out." I said, setting the rag aside and then reaching for the healing salve. "I mean...I see why you guys thought you had to do it. Put on a convincing show for Kicho...doesn't mean I have to like it any, though."

"I know that this plan is really hard on you, Ava..." HIdeyoshi began, but I cut him off.

"I know...I know why it has to be the way it is. I'm not a convincing actress so I can't be with Motonari or else I'd probably give everything away..."

Hideyoshi shook his head. "That's not why you're not with him and I am sure you know it." He assured me.

"What do you mean?" I asked, though a part of me had a feeling I knew where he was going with this.

"As much as I hate to admit this...I know Motonari does in fact love you very much. As much as I hate him for what he's done...I can admit that he has changed for his love of you. The reason you're here is because he wanted you to be some place safe. We all want you to be some place safe."

I sighed as I set the salve down and then grabbed the fresh bandages to begin wrapping Hideyoshi's wound. "I know that...I still I...just miss him."

Hideyoshi smiled at me and reached his other hand up to pat my head in that brotherly way of his. "Hey, don't look so down. Once he finds out what Kicho is up to, we'll all put a stop to his plans and then we'll be well on our way to finishing unification and everything will be just fine."

"Thanks, Hideyoshi." I replied. "You know, something else that bugs me about all of this?"

"What's that?"

"What could Kicho have seen in my future, my original time, that has made him take it as his personal mission to destroy that future?" I asked. Though Kicho wasn't exactly targeting me, it felt like he was. Destroying my old home felt personal, especially since I did know him and he knew me and even claimed to have some feelings for me.

"The only way we will know is if he ever answers." Hideyoshi replied.

"I don't see him giving up that secret."

"You never know. Perhaps we'll find out."

Motonari...

Motonari stood on the deck of his ship. Though the wound he had taken from Hideyoshi was relatively nasty, he'd had worse. With the salve Ava had made for him a long time ago now, the wound was healing up rather nicely. What really stung him was not being with her. He wanted her at his side, but he knew that she was safer with the Oda forces. Not that Kicho would likely do anything to harm her...that bastard did claim to love her after all. Though how could he when he was ready to destroy the world that made Ava?

"You're already looking better." Kicho observed as he came up to Motonari.

Motonari shot him a glare. He wanted nothing more than to punch that expressionless face, break his nose, maybe his jaw too. Dammit. Not being able to take this bastard down right now is driving me almost as crazy as not havin' my girl! He thought.

"You're looking more pissed off than usual." Kicho said.

"Just wantin' to know when yer gonna let me in on what our plan is." Motonari replied.

"We have to cause some major chaos." Kicho answered. "Since most of the country is united now, it's going to take a lot to shake the people into action."

"There are a few daimyo who would still readily go against Nobunaga if given the chance." Motonari said. "A lot 'a 'em don't like bein' told what to do now...especially by Nobunaga."

"I figured you would be the best one to know which daimyo to arm." Kicho replied. "And I know where to get the arms we need."

"I know where to find plenty on my own." Motonari countered. "Unless you got some bigger fireworks? Better be more powerful than that fancy cannon of yers ya used to blow that hole in Azuchi Castle, though."

"I know exactly where to go for the bigger fireworks, as you say." Kicho replied, a small smile appearing on his face. "I hope you're prepared for a long trip."

"I'm a pirate, of course I'm prepared fer a long voyage." Motonari replied, though he hated the thought. He wanted this over quickly. He had his family waiting on him.

"Assuming we don't run into any bad weather, we'll be coming back in about six weeks." Kicho replied.

Motonari nodded. "Alright, let's get to talkin' details."

The pair discussed the plan, Kicho telling him what they were getting and where they were getting it from. They then discussed what they should be doing to cause the most chaos and completely upend the peace that Motonari had been working with the Oda to bring about. What Kicho was unaware of was that one of Motonari's crew was part of Shingen's Mitsumono and was listening in to every word being said.

You are so right! Season 2 Matsuda is such a creep towards women. From perving on Misa, flirting with a girl he knew since she was in her early teens and and his whole reaction to Light/Kiyomi. Ohba why

Ohba has long established that he takes pleasure and finds humour in his female characters being exploited and mistreated, so he uses it as comic relief often and it’s disturbing. I really hate that dinner scene with Misa and Kiyomi because not only was it a pathetic depiction of both of them and uncomfortable, but it wasn’t even necessary. She could’ve enquired about Misa without all that, but Ohba himself said he wanted that in there because he thought it was…funny. 🤨

But yes, Matsuda gets portrayed in fanon as this sweet cinnamon roll, and I guess it’s because Light obviously looks and is much worse by comparison and he himself gets ragged on for comic relief. But he’s really not and it makes sense to me why he’s single when this is how he behaves. He also tried to shoot Light right in the face after already putting several unnecessary bullets into him, so there’s personal feelings there for me too. /hj

Light was the only one to obtain the eyes from birth, he learned that if he concentrates hard enough he can see with the eyes, but only faces as well as their names and lifespan, everything else is darkness

The doctors are not certain what causes this strange anomaly to his eyes as they believed it some this new form of mutation to humans

Light is still the perfect student, good-looking, charming, and gifted in sports with his brother as he is an inspiration for conquering the darkness he sees and, suffers from

Taiyō is protective and supportive of his brother as he helps Light when he needs him, wanting to make a better world for his brother to be safe with

Taiyō is the one to take the death note

He learns from Ryuk about why his brother has the eyes and the Shinigami needed to stay away from Light’s radar

Taiyō only writes in the Death Note when Light is not around

When Kira first surfaced, Light wanted to catch him

Since Light could not write, he used audio tapes to speak of his investigation as he tries to figure out the mystery

L learns of the twins and have surveillance on them

This begins the hypothesis that one twin is innocent while the other is Kira and using his brother as a shield to go undetected

L learns of the tapes and listens to every single one and sees that Light is heavily invested in trying to find Kira

Taiyō sent a message that Kira has two faces, the Face of Rot that punishes and the Face of Innocence that gives, unaware of the first face

When Taiyō been trying to throw off L’s surveillance, Light was disgusted by the pornography in his room and scolded him for not setting high standards for himself while Taiyō points out that he’s only human and that Light is only saying that because he’s attracted to men

Soichiro Yagami was then requested by L to bring a medical record of Light, wanting to learn more about his blindness, believing it has something connected to Kira

This becomes useful later as the second Kira appears with the same ability as Light

L has Light’s eyes looked as he wants to see any strange anomalies to them

Using only Soichiro’s face to look at him, Light describes the feeling, the eyes and every other detail as they scanned his eyes

L asked Light to help him as he believes that Kira’s powers may have been the reason why Light is blind as Soichiro now has a vendetta as he blamed Kira for blinding Light

Light was surprised that Misa was his twin’s girlfriend but does some light teasing as Misa enjoyed Light as a brother in law

Taiyō lied about Light being the second face of Kira and the true God of the world he wanted to give him to Misa as she agreed to protect his brother as long as he’s her boyfriend

Rem accidently meets Light as his eyes can see her

Rem tells him the truth about his eyes as he was blinded by Shinigami blood and warns him to never use the power that Kira has or he would be tainted like him

After his brother’s, father’s and Misa’s confinement and ruse, Light and L become close and started dating

L gets close enough to Light to want him as his successor and wants him to be the one to take care of Near and Mello, who Light promise not to tell anyone about him, including his brother and father

Light fears the Death Note as he didn’t want to be corrupted like Kira

Rem asked for Light’s forgiveness after she writes L’s name

Light vowed to find Kira as Taiyō felt safe as his brother was his moon eclipsing the sun, hiding its true intention

During the four-year time skip Light loves again but with Touta Matsuda, they then were wed on the fourth year as they barely got his father’s blessing since both were detectives and both agreed not to have kids

Near meets with Light as he was the one known as L

Mello kidnaps both Sayu and Light as one of the mafia members cripples his legs with a bullet permanently

Mello had Light under care to keep him alive as he had negotiations for the notebook

Light knew who Mello was and Mello knew who Light was as he told him about L and how much he loved both Mello and Near to the point he wanted Light to be his protector and caregiver

Mello asked him questions about the death note and his eyes as Sidoh made his way for his notebook

While Sayu was returned for the Death Note, Light was kept a prisoner and threatened to kill him if he returned

Taiyō feared he would have to kill Light as he was a prisoner

Light wanted to protect Mello, though Mello wanted him to hate him, for paralyzing him and for traumatizing his sister

Though Light admit he was mad for his impulse, but he promised that he would never hate him

Mello told Light that he didn’t need him to take care of him and could take care of himself, though he asked to look after Near as a secret favor to him

Light wanted to see Mello’s face with his Shinigami eyes and treasured that memory of his face like L’s

Light was given painkillers from his wound and often sleeps

When the task force came to the rescue, Touta finds him, drugged with pain killers and carries him to safety

Light felt his father die as the doctors take care of him and cries in his sleep

His brother tells him but Light already know as he felt it

Light was then given a wheelchair as Touta felt guilt for what happened

Near has Light and Aizawa investigate Taiyō

Taiyō promised Mikami to have his “Pure Face’s” hand in marriage when this is over as Mikami felt honored to marry a God

Light saw Near’s face and name as he felt content to know both boys as Near promises to bring in Kira as Light helps him

Around Christmas, Light sent gifts to Near and Mellow

Light was devastated for Mello’s death but received a message from him before he died, thanking him for meeting him

Light stayed with Near and Mogi as Light needed to be certain that his brother is Kira or not

Light told the task force that he had Near wear the mask himself as he told them that L had him be his guardian before he died

After Taiyō is revealed to be Kira, everything was revealed, including his arrange marriage to Mikami after they were all dead, he told them that he did this for his brother and give him and everyone a better world and make Light a God

But Near tells him that Taiyō just uses his brother as a shield, taking everything for him as a price to make the world for him, though he may have started off as trying to protect his brother, he in the end betrayed him

Matsuda shoots him before Taiyō could right a name, shouting that he drove his father to his death, crippling his brother and destroying their families lives

After Taiyō is found dead, Light decided to step down as L and become Watari for Near

Near tells Light at his brother funeral that his brother died long ago, Kira was nothing but a ghost of him

Matsuda joins them, acting as a second Watari as they left for England

No animal abuse

Everytime I wake up, I keep asking myself what this day will bring me today. New order, new problems, new visitors, or it will be just quite and peaceful. Who am i kidding, there was never a peace in assassin's life. And yet, mornings are going well for me for now. Doing all this morning routine reminds me that I'm still alive. And hot nice breakfast reminds me that there are still things to enjoy in life. My breakfast was as usual: coffee and salad. I don't load my breakfast that much, so that i could enjoy my lunch. Or dinner. After that i check my arsenal, every gun, every knife i have, even a sniper gun. I always take at least one knife before going out. You never know what can happen outside of organization or mission. Today i decided to do little shopping as i was running out of bullets and bread. Weird combination. As I was walking, i looked around. By looking around, i don't just look, i analyse. Analyse everything: lights, buildings, cars, people, their timetable and where they go. The city is usually not that alive in the morning, a good moment to do an order. But i didn't get any message from Lady Grey today, and so i could use it for myself. When i almost got to bakery....I heard a whinning. A dog's whinning. And punches. Someone was punching a dog? I turned around towards the sound, and noticed an alley where a tall man was standing and....hitting a dog.

???: Stupid dog, always wandering around here! Because of you people can't walk calmly! You street cur!

Another punch, another whine. But this whine was quiter. Seems this man was hitting dog not once. Most of the people would just walk by and don't even give a hand. Even assassins, maybe. Ready to be surprised?

???: Tsh, I wish i could just-

Misa: Hey.

The man turned around and it was my chance. First punch on his face, then footboard, and finally, strong grab on his hand.

???: Hey, what the hell is going on???

Misa: So you enjoy punching poor dogs, huh?

???: Hey, who do you think you are?? It's none of your-

I didn't care at that moment. The dog was dying from punches, and still tries to live. I'm maybe a cold assassin, but leting injustice go like this to anyone, no matter who or what you are, i'm sorry, but be ready to have something broken. Like fingers.

???: AAAAAAAA!!!

Misa: Oh, i'm sorry, are you hurt? Let me help you.

Another fingure was broken and another scream.

???: Somebody help!! This crazy bitch wants to- AAAAAAA!!

One more fingure. Five punches were made, then five fingers will be broken. Fair exchange.

???: Please, stop!! What do you want from me??

Misa: Me? Oh, nothing.

???: Nothing???!

Misa: However this dog is suffering from your punches, that you did for no reason. You can still save your other five fingers if you leave this dog alone.

???: This dog???! Don't you know how i got tired of these street dogs?? They're barking, can attack people and do other dangerous stuff!!!

But I didn't believe him. I looked into dog's eyes, they were clear and innocent. How did I understood? I felt it. This is something I learned during all my trainings. Plus, this dog was clean, so his previous host left them. I soghed deeply.

Misa: Well, you asked for it.

???: Wait wait wait, what are you- AAAAAAAAA!!!

Another five fingers. I let this man go, but he couldn't move his hands. He looked at me with such horror, like he just saw a devil. Devil by name Misa. He wanted to say something, but nothing could come out of his mouth.

Misa: Be lucky that dog is still alive, or else the fair exchange would be more sad. The hospital is not far, you will have time to get there. One more thing like this, and trust me...something else will be broken.

The man ran away with a shout. I'm pretty sure he will tell everyone about me. Oh well, I didn't care that much. I'm always ready for unexpected guests. Right now, the dog needed to be get to vet. I walked to it, picked up and walked to the vet. After couple of hours, vet told me that dog will be alright and that they will find a new home for it. I sighed with relief: today i didn't have to kill randomly found bad person. Lady Grey would not appreciate it, even tho she would understand my reasons. God damn, i'm sure she will report my actions towards this man. Oh well, not first, not the last time. Now, time to get back to my normal routine. And expect new orders from organization.

other notes: there’s mention and loose description of sexual assault, homophobia, ableism, misogyny, suicide, domestic abuse, transmisogyny, racism, antisemitism

homophobia - writing the known gay man (L) as overemotional reeks of homophobia to me. also, L repeatedly gets called slurs behind his back.

ableism - L is talking to those!matt and asks if those!matt knows if he is missing some chromosomes (ragingly intersexist for another iirc). That’s Really Fucking Bad Yall. sachiko calls misa a “dumb slut”

misogyny - misa repeatedly attempts suicide and it’s treated like a joke. lots of the ladies in those are also treated really badly by the narrative and light. sachiko calls misa a “dumb slut”

not realistic - this isn’t as much of an issue for me but it’s completely inaccurate despite it being set in japan. in this example, sachiko slut-shames misa and is, yet again, really ableist about her

transmisogyny - there’s use of the T-slur iirc and the narrative goes so far as to derogatorily compare L to a trans woman who hasn’t had bottom surgery

racism - L, a mixed race JP man, says this: “one of those unpronounceable, bombed to hell middle eastern countries”

domestic violence - this is unsurprising considering all the other content but i find it really uncomfortable

rape/sexual assault/dubcon - L rapes light in an alley. light rapes L later. in a later chapter, light, L, and B have a threesome. light had ambien mixed into his vodka. L is also inebriated and B is completely sober.

romanticization of rape and domestic abuse - i mean, it’s from Light’s POV and ppl deal with trauma differently but like :////!!! it sucks to see it romanticized

suicide - Light makes a really cavalier joke about slitting his wrists. same thing for the first sentence of the misogyny bullet.

antisemitism - Light actually has a jacket reminiscent of Hugo fucking Boss. who, if you’re not familiar with WWII history, sponsored the SS and manufactured nazi uniforms. Light is proud of this. as a serious prospective convert to judaism, someone who gives a shit about antisemitism, and someone who’s studied WWII for a decade or so, it leaves a really fucking bad taste in my mouth.

the author is white, cis and/or het as far as i can tell, so i’m rlly not comfortable with seeing a white, cis and/or het author write all the stuff as listed above. i’ll also note that 1) the person who i got the list from got 20k words in (seven chapters in), and 2) this is all the shit i could remember off the top of my head. (wrt the ableism, i know that the author is chronically ill, but the lateral aggression is really fucking gross imo)

also, to be clear: i have no problem with heavy subjects being handled in fic so long as it’s handled respectfully (eg not romanticized), and this is not one of those fics. so if you’re sensitive to any of these subjects, be careful.

Disc 6: Grey-zone  - a summary / partial translation

Prior translations / an explanation as to what the fuck this is.

In this: Rem dragging business men, a lot. NightGod228, the playboy. A minor character gets confirmed as gay, but only as part of a homophobic humorous quip, so let’s not get excited. There’s also some fun focus on the internal relations of the Yotsuba Eight, but sadly nothing becomes of it in later discs. 

Hatori is inexplicably nicknamed ‘Harry’.

We begin with Rem explaining the rules of the Death Note to Higuchi, as well as telling him what he is supposed to do / who he is supposed to kill. Rem also somehow discloses that someone she is closed to is accused of murder.

Higuchi’s catchphrase in this is “business is war”.

L visits Soichiro in his cell. Soichiro insists on living in the same conditions as Light, even if he could have better. L tells Soichiro that the new Kira murders continue. L is not totally convinced of Light’s innocent anyway, thinks he’s in the grey. He suggests a test to Soichiro, to ‘take some drastic measures’. (Soichiro: “Oh? And we haven’t done that so far?”)

Light in his cell. He’s getting taken out of it now, against his will and without explanation.

Aizawa trying to get into the new headquarters they just now moved into, in a scene that references the anime one with the belt (just without the belt). Aizawa in this somehow goes by “Shu” with people in the task force, short for his first name “Shuichi”.

Thew new HQ has been downgraded to 10 stories instead of the 23 from the manga. Watari shows Aizawa around. Aizawa refuses to move into the building, due to his daughter going to school totally elsewhere.

Soichiro and Misa in the car. 

MISA: Is that you? The pervert who held me captive this whole time?

SOICHIRO: No! No, I.... I have a daughter.

MISA: Congratulations, I have a cat. Orrr... I had a cat. Uugh, I bet she ran away already and gets her food elsewhere. Uuhh... How long was I gone? How long was I held captive?

At another stop, Light is also brought into the car. The dialogue here is close to the manga.

The task force is waiting at the junkyard that is planned for the fake execution.

______

Light and Misa assume they’ll be let out, but Soichiro informs them its their execution instead. Light tries to... ask for a lawyer. Pretty calmly, too.

But in response, Soichiro is just like ‘well, you’ll not actually be put on trial’ and thus a lawyer is useless. Soichiro says that L promised to kill himself if the murders don’t stop after these executions. 

Soichiro declares that he personally has to execute Light, you know the deal.

Wohoo, mock execution.

Matsuda accidentally parked at the wrong entrance to the junkyard, so they have to very quickly drive to the other end in order to reach Soichiro and co.............

Soichiro explains to Light why he did the mock execution and how L accepts that as evidence.

L talks to Watari. He isn’t actually convinced that Light didn’t just look through the bluff. Thus, he’ll let Misa go as long as she is under police ‘protection’. And Light has to work in the task force.

Meeting of the Yotsuba Eight. First Mido presents the yearly finances, which is very quick and without detail.

OOI: If all bullet points get done so quickly, we’ll all end up becoming better at playing golf. 

Laughter.

OOI: Point two. The development of real estate in the Tama Hills. What does your department have to say to that?

TAKAHASHI: I-- I didn’t even realize this was a topic today. Could we delay it? 

SOMEONE: Seriously?

TAKAHASHI: Everything’s gonna be fine. I just don’t have the numbers with me today. 

OOI: I can only let that pass with an explicit warning. The financial department is getting stricter and stricter with the paperwork. One-time delay until the next meeting, but then it really has to happen, Mr. Takahashi.

TAKAHASHI: I’m sorry. It just slipped through.

OOI: It’s fine, we’ll do it next time. Point three and after that we’ll be done already. Who are we going to kill this week?

L explains to Light that he can only leave the building if handcuffed to him, but no mention of handcuffs within the building is made. The whole conversation about regulations, dates, and Light being like ‘uh, are we a couple’, etc... those are all pretty much like the manga. L presses the whole memories about their meeting thing for a while and L’s actor will NEVER learn how to say ‘Aoyama’, please save me.

Back at the Yotsuba meeting.

REM: Just look at them. Pretending to think really hard. Like little school boys. Is this really the best that an economic force like Japan can offer?  

OOI: Oh please, gentlemen, someone has to have an idea.

REM (mocking): Just toss dice, Mr. Representative. Let them draw lots. Toss money in the air and check who’s collecting the most. 

SOMEONE: It’s getting difficult. Kira stopped killing criminals and started killing innocent civilians. 

HIGUCHI: Quite apparently Kira is now looking for victim’s from whose deaths he can profit somehow. 

SOMEONE: So, Kyousuke, you are claiming he’s a hitman now?

HIGUCHI: So far there’s been no complaints. Least of all from you. You all agreed to the deal. We can’t just back out now.

REM: What an important point, Kyousuke. Tell that to these men. Eight different departments in this group and not a single woman in the room?

They keep discussing the Kira matter and why Kira is doing it. Shimura brings up the idea that one of them could be Kira. They decide to not look a gift horse in the mouth and to just kill people. In the end, Rem tells Higuchi to just make name suggestions and so he does.

Matsuda is declared Misa’s new manager / bodyguard / observation agent. Light finds this ridiculous. L then also asks Light to get more information from Misa, since she loves him so much. Light says he doesn’t like the thought of playing with girls’ feelings.

Light: [...] Someone is seriously going to get hurt. [emotionally]

L: There are human lives at stake in this game. [shitty translation, but ‘to be at stake’ in the German INCLUDES the word ‘game’ already, idiomatically.]

Light: I don’t play.

L: Strange, because that’s exactly how I’d describe your old self.

LIGHT: What?

L: Who is Kiyomi Takada?

LIGHT: A girl I had a few dates with. So?

L: Who is Yuri Ohara?

LIGHT: A girl I had dates with.

L: 73% of your contacts on social media are women, did you know that? 

LIGHT: I’m popular.

L: Over the last two years, you’ve been NightGod228 on two different dating platforms. With more than 500 likes?

LIGHT: I am pretty sure you’re implying something here. But I’m still puzzling out what.

L: It’s just... up until a little while ago, you’ve been a very busy boy. 

LIGHT: That’s not a crime.

L: And now suddenly this change in your attitude. Suddenly a romantic. Did you give a damn for Kiyomi Takada’s feelings? You haven’t called her in a month. And don’t you wonder how Yuri Ohara got over the busjacking you led her into?

LIGHT: I’ve got a lot of friends. Some of them are girls.

L: Most of them.

LIGHT: At least I’ve got friends.

OOI: With that, we’re all present.

REM: A handful of idiots.

OOI: Thus I declare this meeting of the Yotsuba group---

TAKAHASHI: Mr. Representative, I have to apologize, but this was a little unexpected and--

OOI: It was unexpected for all of us, Mr. Takahashi.

REM: Because you’re idiots.

TAKAHASHI: I just thought I had until Tuesday to get this sorted out.

OOI: This meeting is not going to be about the financial situation of Tama Hills, Mr. Takahashi. 

TAKAHASHI: Oh. Of course.

It’s actually about Kira, of course. They figure out that impossible death conditions won’t take place and default to heart attacks. 

Someone points out their goals are getting reached anyway.

SOMEONE: That’s not it. We’re starting to get careless.

REM: You’re only starting now?

They point out that these killings are too obvious and that’s an issue.They wanna do something about it.

Soichiro and Kitamura talk. Soichiro tells Kitamura about the new building, Kitamura is jealous of the luxury. Soichiro revels in this. And then Kitamura announces that the Kira investigation is going to be quit.

Matsuda drops Aizawa off at home. He presses Aizawa to move into HQ, but Aizawa still does not want to move in. His wife doesn’t even know he’s on the Kira team.

Matsuda gets called in his function as Misa’s manager and informed she won a contest and gained a movie role. Matsuda obviously has no fucking clue what any of this means and is just concerned that Misa shouldn’t act in porn. The lady calling is audibly confused by the lack of enthusiasm.

Soichiro and Kitamura discuss more about the closing of the task force. Kitamura is very dismissive about the use of the investigation. Kitamura also reveals that the politicians are being blackmailed by Kira to cancel the investigation. Soichiro is appalled.

Light found out the link to Yotsuba. They treat this as if they’d always known Kira can kill through means other than heart attacks, even though in the manga that was a big reveal. RIP.

Higuchi and Shimura in the elevator.

SHIMURA: I’ve been meaning to talk to you, Kyousuke. 

HIGUCHI: Oh really?

SHIMURA: About our weekend project. 

HIGUCHI: What’s with it?

HATORI: Even if you succeed in getting the police to stop their investigations, this L is never going to stop.

HIGUCHI: Maybe not... but.... I don’t know how we’re supposed to get to him. He might be one of the world’s top detectives, but nobody has ever seen his face before and nobody knows his name. 

SHIMURA: And if we had those two things, our... friend could do the rest, right?

HIGUCHI: Yeah.

SHIMURA: Then let’s get out own detective. L is not the only player on the market. Let’s get another detective to find out what we need to know.

HIGUCHI: I like that. 

SHIMURA: Gerald Coil. He’s not cheap, but he knows what he’s doing. Let’s put him on the L case. If we get rid of L, we won’t have any more problems. 

HIGUCHI: Do that.

Soichiro informs the task force of Kitamura’s decision. Everyone except for Aizawa agrees to quit. L tells him to decide right now, even though he wants time to think. When Aizawa hesitates, L wants to fire him, but Watari chimes in as he does in the manga. L then asks Aizawa to talk in private.

Higuchi and Hatori are golfing.

HIGUCHI: Good blow, Mr. Hatori.

HATORI: My friends call me Harry.

HIGUCHI: Your jaunty golf friends?

HATORI: Well, in that case it’d be you, Kyousuke.

They talk about some golf terms as they play, no idea what that means. 

HATORI: Now we’re almost at the goal.

HIGUCHI: Thanks for the heads-up, I’m not much of a golf player.

HATORI: Well, who’s able to afford that anyway? This field is top league. Most golf players have to earn their money abroad.

HIGUCHI: It has to cost a fortune to be a member in a golf club like this.

HATORI: Well, there’s also candidates who are simply the son of the boss, even if he was never married to their mother.

More golf talk. Higuchi expresses surprise that it’s only the two of them.

HATORI: I wanted to talk to you in private. About our... secret helper.

HIGUCHI: What about him? 

HATORI: It’s a quite intense form of insider business. And it costs human lives.

HIGUCHI: Business is war.

HATORI: And we’re playing the nuclear bombshell card. We’re using... I don’t know, black magic, to get rid of our rivals. That’s going to have a price, I know it. Listen, Kyousuke, I... I want out. I don’t want to do this anymore. It isn’t right.

HIGUCHI: You know what isn’t right? For you to become boss of the marketing department when you’ve just graduated college. Just because your mother is fucking the company president. You know what you signed up for, Mr. Hatori. You could barely believe your luck as you could announce 20% growth for your department, despite that pathetic ad campaign for Space Land theme park. 

HATORI: I understand. Well, I thank you for your honesty. I came to you first because you hardly mince words. 

HIGUCHI: You haven’t talked to anyone else yet?

HATORI: Not yet, no, I---

HIGUCHI: Okay, listen. I understand what’s on your mind. Maybe we’ve gone  a little too far, maybe... we can take a little break. Talk about it. Let’s keep this conversation among ourselves for now. I’ll bring it up at the next meeting, Mr. Hatori. 

HATORI: My friends call me Harry.

HIGUCHI: ... of course.

L encourages Aizawa to quit for his family, even if Aizawa is still hesitating. L tells him he needs 110% from his team. Aizawa calls Ukita his best friend here, bringing him up as something he already sacrificed. L says he can’t let Aizawa add weight to his conscience too (by dying). Aizawa accuses him of having no conscience and storms out.

Hatori sitting down at the golf club bar alone, Higuchi already left. He’s having a whiskey. Takahashi is on the phone.

TAKAHASHI: Harry. What can I do for you?

HATORI: Hey Takahashi. That... thing we talked about. I... I, uh, talked to someone else from the meetings. He’ll bring it up in the next session.

TAKAHASHI: So I shouldn’t say anything. 

HATORI: Let him talk first, then support him. It’s going to look like it’s happening without coordination. I’ll also support it, and then we’ll have 3 votes. Ooi is going to remain neutral, as the meeting leader. That means we’ll have enough votes to cast doubt on the whole operation. 

TAKASHI: Okay, so I’ll stay put and wait first. 

HATORI: You can definitely do it. Later.

TAKASHI: Wait, who did you even talk to?

But Hatori already hung up. He starts coughing soon after. Coughing turns into a collapse. He dies.

L informs Soichiro that Gerald Coil was hired to find him and also that that’s him. Soichiro finds the double identity thing morally questionable, due to being a trap. L is unimpressed. Also L wants to bug the Yotsuba building.

At Misa’s movie shoot. Misa refuses the kiss, as in the manga.

MISA: I have a reputation, you know. A brand.

DIRECTOR (angry): A-ha. And this is just a movie!! In reality, you’re not an angel!! And Hideki doesn’t even fancy girls in reality either!!

MISA (chuckles darkly): I’ll believe that.

So... here we have our canon gay character for the drama, done for a homophobic joke. Woohoo. The director continues to be displeased with Misa as an amateur actress and wants to talk to her manager.

Inside Yotsuba, Matsuda justifies entering the building by being Misa’s manager. Arguing in the background, between a man and a woman. The woman rushes off to the lady’s restroom. The man, with a heavy French accent, tries to excuse her behaviour. This distracts the lady from the reception long enough for Matsuda to slip away.

L and Soichiro still argue about ethics, especially in light of L’s coworkers being criminals. Wedy is called Wendy here and Aiber is called Ivor, do NOT ask me why, I have no answers. 

The poor Yotsuba secretary tries to mediate between Wendy and Ivor by following Wendy into the lady’s room to deliver a message from Ivor. Wendy, however, is not in the lady’s room anymore.

She now notices that they are intruders and calls Namikawa. Namikawa does not take it seriously. He runs into Matsuda after the phonecall. Matsuda offers Misa as image girl for Yotsuba to him.

Wendy and Ivor are placing bugs and cameras. Wendy and Ivor call each other ‘babe’. Ivor still has the hideous French accent. He also... caused a minor fire as distraction for them. Neat, Ivor.

Matsuda informs everyone that he got Misa an interview at Yotsuba. He had no idea they were already bugging the building. Wendy casually thanks him for giving them more time for being in the building. Matsuda is shocked to find Wendy and Ivor are part of the team.

The cameras are now operational and they can watch today’s meeting live.
