I woke up this morning and the very first thing I did was watch the next Madoka Magica movie trailer, I will now provide an extensive (and probably excessive) analysis. I'm going to be as thorough as I possibly can and that's a warning! <3333

The phone ringing sound effect at the start is the exact same as the one in Akumura's transformation in magia record (april fools one) (side note this is how I found out Devil Homura actually got into magia record, I saw the transformation and I am so mad)

Translating the ear cuff concept art (google translate so probably not too good a translation but bare with me) the jewel attached to the tail is Madoka's power which is neat, the madoka runes also say "Homulilly" if you're wondering.

The new lizard is a similar representation to the purple one, I believe the lizard is a representation of sorts for her love of Madoka (note how it splatters. My theory is that the lizard is Love, that's why Love didn't show up to Homulilly's funeral.)

It's red either to show it's corrupted or because as aforementioned Homura possesses Madoka's power in the gem her ear cuff carries (that's also why I think her eyes were tinged pink in the Devil Homura form)

The lizard turns into a phone so we'll probably have a pretty good excuse to make Homura Touch Tone Telephone amvs/animations, yippee!

A lot of people have pointed this out as a tarot card meaning illusion, fear, subconscious, etc which definitely fits. I want to add on to this scene though: around the centerpiece there's butterflies with pins through them, in her magia record "coolmura" transformation her glasses turn into butterflies so it might be a callback relating to that.

(In that transformation they go into her soul gem, in this scene they're pinned down, something about lizards eating butterflies? And butterflies representing freedom, the butterflies being pinned then definitely matches what she does to Madoka at the end of rebellion.)

The moon symbol halved like that is also used various other times in the series too, in one notable instance she was even sitting under it like she is in next shot

LIZARD AGAIN WOOOOOOOOOOOO LET'S GOOOOOOOO

Homura gets a pretty new outfit and cool lizard chair good for her tbh

Zooming in I can see that 1: Homura's outfit slays even harder than I thought it did (and it's very similar to the one she wears mid witch transformation in rebellion) 2: the chair is supposed to look like her devil homura form and 3: the lizard she's sitting on has the gem eye so it's probably at least related to the ear cuff

Skipping ahead through the montage, there's this girl

Who the HELL is this. Her outfit looks a lot like Homura's, she even uses Homura's bow and arrow, but it also looks like Madoka's? Like some sort of mix between the two. Even weirder, the ribbons she seems to be fighting with look like MAMI'S. What, does the new movie have magical girl fusion? Is this Hitomi somehow? Is it Mami? Or someone new?

Here's what I think: Homura takes the place of Kyubey in turning people into magical girls, this is one of the girls who she made into one. It makes sense for why she was saying "can you accept the risks and responsibilities? Can you fight against the curse of this world?" Maybe, people contact her through the phone asking to become a magical girl and that's what she says to them. This girl also appears right after the phone hangup noise.

Next, there's this scene. Which... is a little concerning.

There's some pretty unfortunate conclusions you could draw here, but look at the digital stuff around her. Is Madoka going to the endless solitude? Remember, to get there you jump off of the radio tower alone. (To be honest, it's been a while since I've seen magia record because I don't really like it, and I haven't seen season 2, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's some gaps so if there's anything from magia record that could add to the analysis I'll leave that to the fans of magia record)

Homura looks so pretty oh my god. New headband, also she's carrying an umbrella

she had one in rebellion too but this one's cooler. Also it looks like she wears pants under her skirt now! Getting some fun design changes to shake it up I see.

Kyoko and Mami got pretty slight design changes, Kyoko looks exactly the same so I'm not actually sure if anything changed and Mami's top looks pretty different. Nothing to say about that except, cool!

Sayaka looks pretty majorly different though. She now has a ribbon wrapping all over her face. Probably something about how she knew about Homura being the devil, this might be symbolism for her being silenced. Either way it's also cool.

After that Homura's on this really tall tower, somehow there's more than one of her. If you look at the backdrop you can see the fence on the roof of the school.

Zooming in, the tower is apparently built up of books. Behind Homura there's some nails, they look sorta like the needles in the first scene. Something interesting is she's wearing her usual magical girl outfit, except with the shawl and brooch from the first scene. The Clara doll also sorta looks like a lizard tail.

Sketch dump extravaganza!

So, the end is near. The end of the owl house that is. I’m excited, and nervous, and happy and sad, and all sorts of other feelings all at once. This show really meant a lot to me, and this is the first time I’ve ever been THIS involved in making stuff for a fandom. It really helped me grow in both my art and my writing, so as a sort of sent off, I put together this! It’s a look back on my Owl house journey in the form of sketches I never posted, process pics, and unfinished works, along with some creator commentary!

Starting it off with a ton of Hunter! Hes been my most drawn victim subject, and one of my top faves. Above is a number of sketches I never finished and a few alternate goof arounds. Sometimes when I feel stuck trying to capture an expression I draw the most basic version of what I wanna get across, both for my amusement and to get out of the funk. More to see below the cut.

This next one was started during the hiatus after Yesterdays Lie and never finished. It proved a bit too challenging at the time.

That background was waaay above my skill level at the time, so this is as far as I got. You’ll notice, Willow is the only fully drawn character. I just really liked how she was coming out.

I already wanted Hunter to be part of the friend gang before he’d even met Willow and Gus, and I wanted them all to have a fun human realm adventure hiking and having a picnic. Here are some sketch highlights.

Hunter found a good walking stick, and then Flapjack found one too. Ghost in a cat backpack, Gus with a dandelion.

Next up is an early imagining of what Belos’s final form might look like.

With a scared Hunter for scale. It was also related to my long running fanfic (good days bad days and all the days in between)  written during that same hiatus along with a few other arts.

Hunter was not the only character I liked to make suffer. Here are a few Raine sketches related to that fic (on the right) and a few unfinished pieces from after we met Terra (On the left)

Next up, in a continuation of the Raine suffering. (And my terrible goofy looking thumbnail sketch on the upper left.)

Sketches from my happy then sad Raine and Eda fanart, featuring dead (or mostly dead) Raine. Fun fact, both the content, and style used here were inspired by the short animated film Fuelled, in which a cat wife seeks revenge for the murder of her cat husband. (Ok, it was actually inspired by a Fuelled fan AMV set to Mitski’s Because Dreaming Costs Money, My Dear, but still, beautiful film, go check it out.) For a change of pace, here’s something cute.

Big happy family with young bats, and baby Hunter. This was going to be for an unfinished fic I started in which the bats are already Raine’s adopted kids, and, unable to let baby Hunter suffer, Raine kidnaps him, and goes to Eda for help. Happy family shenanigans ensue.  Here’s a chunk of that fic. (and we’re back to suffering for both Raine and Hunter, so be warned) -- “Eda, I-I am so sorry to show up like this, but—” Raine swallowed hard, and looked over their shoulder into the distance. Fear in their eyes, like something was going to pop out of the woods and get them. “I did something...and I am in so much trouble and...and I didn’t know who else to turn to.” The kids behind them looked up at her with a mix of fear and hope. One of the younger ones clung to Raine’s pant leg, looking especially weary. “You owe me an explanation.” She said, stepping aside. “But it can wait. Get in here.” “Thank you,” They said, sounding beyond relieved, and absolutely exhausted. The kids followed them inside, and Eda paused in the doorway, looked out into the night, unsure what she was expecting to see. Nothing was out there. “Hey, Hooty.” Eda said quietly. The house demon sleepily gave a hoot of acknowledgment “Keep an eye out. Let me know if you see anything.”  With that she shut the door, and turned to face the...complicated situation she was suddenly faced with. Raine had set the youngest child down on her couch. There was a wad of bloody gauze secured to the kids ear. “Do you have any healing supplies?” Raine asked, firmly focused on the injured ear. “Anything for pain?”  

“Yeah.. uh, I’ll grab um.” she said, moving to fetch the kit. The whole situation was bizarre and confusing, but getting everyone taken care of had to be the first priority.

One of the kids followed her. 

“Do you have any food?” The little pony-tailed kid asked. Truth be told, no, she didn’t. Not much anyway. She really needed to keep more around, especially now that she had— oh, she should mention that. It’s a good thing he was a pretty heavy sleeper.

“Kitchens that way” She said, pointing “Don’t burn the place down. Help yourself to what you find. What are you, five?”

“I’m ten” The kid said “Hunter is five. I’m not five, I’m not a baby.”

“Good for you.” She said, digging through the half depleted healer's kit. “Don’t touch the bottle with the apple on it.”

“Katya,” Raine called, worry in their voice “Where did you go? Come back here please.”

“Sorry!” said the kid whose name was apparently Katya. The kid ran back to the living room, and Eda followed. She handed over the kit.

“It’s not much,” She said. “I can see about whipping up a pain potion. I gotta look up the doses for a kid — how old is...”

“I told you, Hunter is five!” Katya said, exasperated. 

“Katya, please.” Raine said, sounding more tired than frustrated. “Yes, he’s five.”

Set to the song Doubt Comes In, with Raine as Orpheus and Eda as Eurydice. I never finished it because I didn’t like how it was turning out (and it was way to much work, lol.) But I still love the crossover. Some highlights below.

In it’s final secret title message to us, Owl House thanked us for watching, so I want to thank it back for all the entertainment and inspiration it gave me (And thanks to those who have followed, liked, reblogged and commented on my art and writing along the way.). I’m gonna miss it, and I wish it hadn’t been cut short, but I’m looking forward to its last episode. Goodbye Owl House.

William James Moriarty felted figure this time (In his teacher chapter outfit more or less because I wanted more colors and details).

My first character stand up human figure and as I edited photos I did realize William is my first no-game but manga/anime figure. He’s about 30 cm high.

I’ve fall deep into Moriarty the Patriot story. My last two posts here were start of it and this one is follow up. Of course I’m planning to do another Moriarty characters next. Sherlock is next in line and I have head for him prepared already (thought I need to make another one first before I start to add details to current one, in order to keep heads the same size). I’ve spend some time yesterday on checking manga and anime and thinking what pose I want to do for Sherly. When I finish our Great Detective then for sure I wanna do Albert next. But I messed up while buying more wool for felting that I didn’t notice I have so little of brown for his hair (a lot of my brown wool went into William). And after Albert I will go with Louis because I want brothers to be together.

This William will be now kinda my pattern for next ones, it took me a moment to figure out what proportions I want for legs and hands for those standing up figures, so maybe Sherlock will let me felt him faster? Nah, empty dreams of mine, I bet his messy hair will gave me headache to figure out into 3d.

And as for William and now next stand up figures I went for old-Disney like 4 fingers hands because 5 finger ones sounds too difficult still for me. Well since I started with characters chibi figures that didn’t have hands, I call this a progress XD. And those William hands were still kinds hard to felt. I don’t think I stab myself with needle doing making Melia, with William was like this too until I got to second hand and stab myself like four times while doing it.

Depending how fast Sherly will come out and If I will need break from character felting I might do something small between him and Albert.

As for other things. I returned lately into making AMVs and I was going to make another one, I have like whole playlist of songs that fits Moriarty the Patriot and I see good amvs to them, but I hit a problem. I wanna mix manga with anime in those amvs like I did with Albert’s amv. But I know what kind of stories we might get in Remains manga and now, for William amv it would be great to include “the girl who sees rainbows”, because there was a lot cool William there and there is chance manga will show it nicely too if that chapter will make it, but I think it will. And this chapter plus “forbidden games” might give more material for another amv, this time with sherliam theme and I want really do at least one or two amvs with whole Moriarty group and knowing Novels “the conspiratorial bullet” might give some nice pannels with Louis, Albert, Bond, Fred and Jack, “Eternal Children” chapter too. So with knowing what might come in manga now I’m stuck, because update later amv is not the option for me. I feel like for 100% we won’t get any more anime (I’m very annoyed at Baskerville not being animated because of many reasons), and I wanna show MTP in my amvs as whole story, mostly what was skipped from manga. So for now I’m waiting what chapters we might get, I’m editing in my free time panels from volumes 1-19 I might use in those amvs. So soon or later next amv will come, I just don’t know how soon. I might go with one amv anime-only, I have some songs for that theme but none of them is like 100% “that’s it!” feeling like I had with Albert’s amv.

How do you listen to new music?

I understand it’s really common for most people to listen to music in their cars or using systems like Spotify, which I don’t like and don’t drive. That’s right, I don’t like cars and I don’t drive Spotify. I listen to podcasts when I travel, usually, and I listen to music while I work at my computer, because I want something that affects my mood while I’m doing, like, this work.

Frustratingly, just because it’s usually there and ad-free, I let Youtube throw mixes at me. Then when I’ve noticed I’ve done that enough that some songs are part of my personal lexicon, I go and acquire those songs some other way, whether bandcamp (in the case of small bands) or

I want to nakedly recommend an mp3 collection to you. You don’t need special software to manage it. You can just dump all your music in a great big heap and use the search function on any mp3 player you like to find the songs you want. You have paid for music, you have paid for the right to use it in different forms, spotify subscriptions are not paying artists and they are rent-seeking on things you can buy directly, or in many cases have already bought.

Anyway, here’s the stuff that I added to my mp3 collection this year.

The Lads are a Christian band from New Zealand I listened to as a kid. I re-found them on Youtube this year. They’d had a song that stuck in my head, an idea that I’ve been trying to stick to, which is if you need a reason to make a change in your life, anything will do. Why not make a big change on Arbor Day, a day you probably had no idea was a day on your calendar?

I mean this isn’t amazing music, but I like having it on hand, you know? The detritus of what we are. Not all of us were influenced by absolute bangers. Sometimes the idea that ‘you can make changes to your life for any given arbitary reason’ is a good thing and it doesn’t matter that much that I got it from a band of dorks who moved to Nashville to sing songs to megachurch kids (which is their spot now).

Next up, a parody song. Stacy’s Mom is a banger of a song about having a crush on an older woman (and the song doesn’t, like, go anywhere with it). Then we get a delightful genderswapped version here, which I hesitate to call a ‘parody’? It’s the same song, basically, it’s just a different orientation with the same comedy bent.

One thing I do find a little awkward is, now I’m starting on being ‘in my forties’ (man that feels weird to say), hearing someone talk about ‘is he learning about the Civil War’ like – so what?! So what if that’s a thing that interests me!? How did I get read like that?

The band Andrew Jackson Jihad, for, perhaps sensibly obvious reasons, changed their name recently. This meant they made an announcement on Youtube at some point and I noticed that (‘AJJ on their name announcement?’ what did AJJ mean?) and that meant I listened to some of their music, annnnnd I like it! I’m told they make Folk Punk, which sounds to me like nonsense but I also am firmly of the opinion that there’s nothing quite so punk as making very specific categorisations that everyone around you must adhere to, right?

Also, this year I listened to a bunch of Anime OPs, because I was watching more anime this year. And the anime this year that I liked just happened to have OPs that I think are great, so I added them to my list. In the vein of ‘sounds like just cool music you might seem international and interesting for listening to,’ there’s the band Creepy Nuts! They do Japanese hiphop and, in addition to the songs from the Call of the Night anime soundtrack, you should also check out Song for the Prodigies.

The opening of Summer Time Render sounds to me like jangly folk rock? I think people call it College Rock? Problem here is I don’t even know this song’s name. It’s just The Opening To Summer Time Render, which is my favourite anime of the year, like it just absolutely whips ass, so I hear this song and I remember how that show makes me feel, from its first embarrassing opening of boobs and butts to its astoundingly sweet conclusion.

The opening to Witch from Mercury has a similar effect, but I really like the way it has this, like, descending step effect? The staggering of it, it sings like dancing, and I love the way it feels like it’s responding to its own anxieties.

I think that the opening and ending of Lycoris Recoil whip ass. There’s this thing the opening does which I think anime openings love doing, which is this sort of crooning that turns into a high, wide arc and then abruptly stops and regathers its footing?

Perhaps obviously, Ya Boy Kongming, an anime about music in Shibuya District, has nothing but bangers in its soundtrack. Everything, even the song by the Evil Bad Band That Sucks are good, but I especially like this cover of Kibun Jojo for the ending that adds instrumentation and a rap verse as the series progresses.

On the other hand, Honey Jet Coaster is just… like, energetic sugary pop music, it feels completely artificial and I have no reason to recommend it. Much like everything to do with Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie you kinda have to get something out of it on a very superficial level, because there is nothing going on here.

(That’s a lie, the song is voiced as if it’s a boyfriend singing about Shikimori, but the vocalist is a woman who sounds like Shikimori, and it describes how Shikimori is a ‘better boyfriend than him’ but you know, so what.)

Now a hard swerve from songs I absolutely cannot sing to songs I absolutely can. I learned about Corb Lund this year! He’s a Canadian country musician, who I learned about after a comedian who appeared on Behind The Bastards told a story about how one time, a racist on a neo nazi website reviewed his set he did opening for Corb Lund, and was so upset he realised that Corb Lund might not be racist enough for him.

Also, something that a lot of bands I like have in common is how good they get when they say, turn forty and stop carrying around a focus on high school. That’s what happened to the Littlest Man Band, which is actually a spinoff band from Reel Big Fish, a 90s Ska Band One And A Half Hit Wonder. I have liked Reel Big Fish all through the years, but on a few tracks, as a gag, they let their member Scott Klopfenstein just do a wholly soulful rendition of a totally different style.

And uh, then he went and made his own band that just does those songs and they’re great.

Talking about things from the 90s that got better as they matured, Blink 182 have a single this year. Apparently it’s part of an album I have no interest in listening to, but this single, on its own, phew. Just fantastic vibes and a real improvement on their baseline sound. It’s Blink 182, but with just a lot more musical competence and fewer mangled half-rhymes.

I thought after I was done with single paragraph summaries I’d go back through the article and bulk it out with more details, to get up to the word count I wanted. Turns out I’m at one and a half times my word count, oops!

I've always made up stories in my mind when I was a little kid when I started watching anime (Fairy Tail, YuGiOh). I made up characters, relationships, plots, AMVs, you know the drill, but I had never written them. Then I got heavily into reading fantasy (Harry Potter, LOTR, Twilight) and that's how I got into writing in general. At 15 or something I found Wattpad and my mind went, "oh, so here's where people put their thoughts?" I wrote my first fanfiction at 15 and I think that's the only one I've managed to actually finish.

I've read and written both of them. But I actually rather writing for ocs. I mean, reader inserts are fun and all that, but my brain likes writing in third person, needs a face, a name, a backstory to wrap my head around. I don't really like writing in second person either, it's not for me. So I'm all in with ocs, specially since it takes zero effort from me to make them. In fact, I'd write every fandom idea with ocs if it weren't for the fact that even fewer people would read them 🤷

Its kind of a long story. Let's make it short. A friend of mine used to call me "Akuma", by that meaning "demon", because of my attitude. I took it and then transformed it into Akumi to make it sound like a name and then made it my "brand" or "online identity". For Tumblr I put "cchi" like in those honorifics "X-chan", you know?

Let's start with the Werewolf which is the most common here. There was a time in life, where I heavily tried to deny it but never really succeeded. But in that time, it was more the desire to howl and to be on all fours. To be free. But I dealt less with phantom limbs like ears and tail (which are now again almost always there. Especially the ears) I count my multiple fantasy worlds into this one section cuz, yea it's all wolf. Doesn't matter if it's Wolf's Rain, Wolfblood, Teenwolf or the story with Mark, that I've going on for about half a year now lol. As I got older, I noticed, that not only I definitely don't want to be in the alpha role, but also, that I was wrong with only wanting to be a wolf. That's the problem of being a werewolf. When you're too long in the role of a human, you'll eventually need a break, but so the same with only being a wolf. You'll always need both in your life, but at the same time you'll never really belong somewhere.

InuYashas Wife. Yea, it's stupid to be in love with someone fictional, I'm aware, but even tho, I still can develop crushes on other guys, my heart still somehow belongs to him. He saved my life and spent so many ears on my side, that when we went different paths, it felt like a part of my soul left me. It got so quiet in my mind (so quiet, and lonely, that I became depressed again). I still miss him and wish I wouldn't have fcked it up (which was more the fault of my ex bestie, but I realized that a bit too late). Two years ago, I fought my blockage and spoke to him for the first time again, because he came up to me with the information, that he has a daughter now. I instantly developed mother feelings for her. I still hope, that we'll get closer together in the future again, but right now it's probably for the best if we stay apart. It hurts, but I pretty much got used to it. I still can't really rewatch the anime or amv's. It's not as bad as it was a few years ago but yea. The feelings are still there and there's still a part of my soul missing that he took with him.

Then we have Invisible Vectoria (short VEC). Some people might heard of her before. She's my OC kin and a mix between Laughing-Jack and a Diclonious. Just as I miss to run on all fours and have a tail and ears, I miss my vectors pretty badly. She was the part of me, that pushed my werewolf-self aside and made me deny it. She was the one, who was my salvation and my curse at the same time. Because she was there, I could let out all the madness in my mind without actually living it out (Even tho, she wanted to do it so badly). She was the main character of my stories that I wrote, where she could do everything she wanted. Now I'm in a state, where I try to deny her again, but it's just not so simple. Violence still kinda turns me on. I don't want to feel like that but yea... Just as I never really got rid of being a werewolf in the times where I tried to, I can't get rid of her.

Then there's the Shinigami (Kuroshitsuji) part of me. The only dream job I felt like was made for me, was being a shinigami. If I had the validation that, just as in the anime, suicide would turn you into a shinigami, I wouldn't have hesitated at all. In that time I met Eric and Alan, which are still the most important beings in my life. It already hurt when Inu left me. But if these two would leave me, I wouldn't know how to stay alive. ((Grell was my best friend back then until my exbestie forced me into a relationship with him. So he was the reason, why I felt like I cheated on Inu. Stupid huh? I know. But that's how loyal I am.)) I spend many years in the Shinigami role, and I truly miss it. I'm thinking about rewatching the anime, but I know what will happen- I will have shifts of that personality for a looong while again and many many bittersweet memories will flood my mind. I can bet on that lol. Oh yea, also, for the first time, I was glad, that I had glasses myself. The werewolf side always hated them and their unnatural feeling and so, when I was a kid, my mom had to train me, to keep em on. Every evening, when I kept my glasses on for a day, I got a little toy figure. Like a dog gets a treat when he did what he was supposed to lol. I still wish, that I wouldn't need them, but the shinigami part of me was proud and happy and I could accept them for the first time.

And also the dragon(rider) from httyd. I would say I'm more of a rider but I still wonder, where my phantom wings come from, that I have from time to time lol. I had already multiple dreams of riding on the back of a dragon and also own two Skrill dragons. Well, one is more like a good friend who visits me often but still lives free. And then there's my Skrill kiddo, that hatched from an egg in my presence. She's completely pink (the underside of the wings and her chest are light pink. I already posted a pic of her here) but her eyes are more blueish. I called her Nyssa (which translates to Fairy) and she's not the best when it comes to flying. She's still very clumsy, but I think she'll get better the older she gets. Me and Dagur were best friends and he also teached me how two write in ruins. I also miss this world a lot cuz I rarely spend time there.

And last but not least we have Spirit (stallion of the cimarron). To be honest, I still don't know if he's an actual kin of mine, but I still have a strong connection to him, the movie and the soundtracks. Every song fits perfectly to me or a situation I was in. His whole life story kinda happened in my life as well. Of course not in the literal way. More theoretically. The song "get off of my back" was translated into "bleib bloß von mir weg" which means "just stay tf away from me" in german and so all lyrics could also connect to my werwolf side.

There are also still some other things like the whole thing with the fallen angel, something zombie like and the phantom wings but I still can't seem to figure them out.

All these things are still a big part of who I am, but in the last years, I always put my werewolf-self in the front and put anything else back. And I'm not able to connect them all. I mean how would I? But it annoys me, that if someone would ask me "hey I can send you into a reality that you want the most" I couldn't respond and wouldn't know which one to pic. I want the body of a werewolf, but so I want vectors. I couldn't live without Eric and Alan but also would forever miss and hate myself for not picking Inu. And watching my little dragon grow up and live a life so free on the back of a dragon, who would want to miss that? I really couldn't decide.

So, I watched the RED Movie yesterday. I have very mixed feelings. I'll explain everything under cut since I want to talk about scenes & plot & involved characters.

So far, a short non-spoiler review:

-> if you're not 100% sure you DON'T want to see the movie, don't hesitate and get yourself a ticket, this is one of those made to be enjoyed in cinema, the experience won't be the same at home

-> if you want to see this only to see your blorbo in action...you most likely will be disappointed, unless your blorbo is Koby, Barto or Usopp

-> if Uta's design & everything told about her in promo materials didn't convince you to like her...you most likely will be disappointed too

-> ...actually, you will have much more fun, if you stop treating it as a movie and start to think about it as high budget music video with Ado's pirate-sona. a big animated fanfic with a quirky OC

-> if you can wait, do yourself a favor and watch it AFTER you read this week's chapter, you will thank me 🤭

And now to the juicy meat.

I went to cinema knowing well this is NOT a movie for me. I'm a manga-only fan, I know anime only in bits and RED is my first OP movie ever. The info revealed in campaign didn't make me enthusiastic, especially given how much they push Uta on the pedestal. Frankly, if not for sis who really wanted to see it, I'd not move my ass to cinema.

But I did. And much to my surprise, I did enjoy it lol Wouldn't call it a good movie (maybe it is for OP standards, no idea), but wouldn't call it a waste of time either. Just a fun thing to watch together with a bunch of nerds, so you can make weird noises when your faves show up.

Uta for me was the weakest point of the movie. Not because I find her a bad-written character (I actually like what they made with her but that's later), but because she has like, 0 chemistry with characters on screen. Her relationship with Shanks and Luffy are limited to very short flashbacks and a few scenes with Shanks at the very end. Luffy and Uta interact with each other but I just...didn't get a feeling they're old friends reuniting after years. I mean, compare it to how Luffy reacted to Ace in Alabasta. Everytime Luffy and Uta met, it felt like a staged scene, and given that a majority of movie is played in alter-reality, controlled by Uta's mind, it gives one whole additional layer of that weird, fake feeling.

Following with the weak points: there's a whole lot of characters who do NOTHING. If we cut all the fight scenes but the finale, a good part of the cast has nothing to do. They just...are. Because they're Strawhats/popular characters. But even with those fight scenes... Zoro, one of the most important characters in the serie, got more or less the same screen time as a fucking chibified fursona of a ship. Even Shanks and Luffy, 2 of 3 main pillars of the movie, don't do that much. Really.

Honestly, fight scenes but the last one disappointed me. I'm a simple One Piece simp: I want to see my blorbos flexing muscles in crazy fights. I know this is not the essence of plot, but it's the flavor. One Piece wouldn't be One Piece if it wasn't boiled in broth made of bloody, sweaty tits, goddammit. In RED majority of fight scenes are edited like AMVs. With insane graphic quality, but with the same chaos and level of cuts and edits. Plus Uta being Uta through majority of screen time. Which is...UGH. The way she fights is really interesting! Whenever she does it, the jaw just drops! I wanna see her fighting with that power! Not look at heavily edited idol performance!

Luckily, at some point movie finally chills down and lets the plot breathe. And once it stops being an AMV on speed, it becomes quite interesting. Especially with the way it flashes out those few characters who got something to do. BIG kudos for choosing less obvious ones for pushing the plot motor: Bartolomeo, Koby, Blueno, Usopp (feat. his daddy issues). Koby was the absolute MVP. Holy fuck. I hope this is just a foretaste of what we're going to see in manga.

Fan theories connoisseurs will be over the moon with the number of symbols and wink winks. Not gonna lie, I focused on lyrics on purpose, to avoid sensory overload from those shaking AMVs and was surpirsed how much info is hidden in them. Like one, big teaser for the upcoming events.

I wonder how many connections will be revealed later. The robots from library? Hell, guess what just happened in chapter 1065 👀 They weren't lying that events aren't canon - but lore definitely is.

The animation & music combo is INSANE. Especially when they let Ado sing instead of pushing her to perform as a candy idol girl (the opening song made my skin crawl jesus christ that was horrible). Gods, the more crazy Uta gets, the better songs get and when the music goes low ohhhhh yes, that's the good shit.

NO FANSERVICE. IN ONE PIECE MOVIE? MORE LIKELY THAN YOU THOUGHT! Except for one very toned panties joke and one not-moving panel from the credits there's literally no fanservice. Null. Zero. Nada. And they let female characters fight to their fullest! Nami, Robin and Brulee do in comparison as much as other background characters.

The final is. IS. I swear, it's one of the best directed fights I've seen in One Piece EVER and hello, forget about the non-anime thig, I watched the famous Katakuri vs Snakeman and the Rooftop. The combo of powerful music, smooth animation, characters cooperating in perfectly-balanced yet unexpected teams, the multi layered attack lead by Usopp and Yasopp, Snakeman-Nika fusion & Shanks finish, fuck, I swear, I was shaking.

I hope this is how final fight in OP will look like. A whole team of our faves from various fractions against Im maybe? 👀

Loved how balanced the humor was. Characteristic for One Piece yet, tamed. Nothing too perverted, nothing too gross, everything chaotic as fuck. Love you, Bepo.

But my favorite part is probably the way they handled the conflict and the case of who's a villain. Don't wanna say too much cause imho this is something everyone should interpret according to their own judgement, but liked how they placed the core in the moral dilemma between bringing relief and utopia for the cost of freedom and remaining free but having to face the reality (oh, someone was inspired by The Matrix). Should I run into lie to comfort myself? Is it a wise idea to try and shield someone from consequences of their actions, even if they were not fully conscious? Does one have a right to decide what's good for others?

If not for the BULLSHIT finish, I'd say the second part saved the movie in my eyes. Sadly, it added to a bad aftertaste. Well, at least I have the OST. And soon-to-come shirtless snake gifs.

Overall, not a tragedy, thing more enjoyable than irritating even if you are easily distracted by things you don't like (like me lol), worth spending money and time even if for just watching an AMV on big screen.

And the obligatory traditional number scale: 4/10 as a stand alone movie, 6/10 as a meat for OP fan, 10/10 of Law's hairy leggies my beloved.

I can perfectly imagine SO many AMV (animated music videos, NOT anime, with MY oc’s) to many songs, I’ll probably make a list when I listen to the songs again!!!

* U Got That (Little V Mix.), heavy lore dump focusing on hard gorey (like a punch going through an enemy’s torso?) moments of violence and combat.

* Everybody Wants To Rule The World (Tears for Fears / Lorde combo), sad and melancholic moments in lore, focusing on relationships such as Mitra and Rómina, Danny and Jimena, Val and their whole previous world. Idk bro sad vibes, inspired by that one video of Tekken lore from my Argent-SZ Tumblr I tagged as “fave”

* I Expect You To Die (Scheller Games), gameplay secret, instead of escaping the deadly trap while the antagonist sings on a giant screen far in the background, if you stay put for the reminder of the song you can trigger secret dialogue that gives you a secret story route, you would need to be playing as Danny though, since one of his idle animations is to observe the background and the general landscape, he’ll watch the performance and it would go somewhat like this: (song finishes) ... Antagonist: ...you didn’t tried to escape? Danny: well at first I thought to do so, but somewhere in the lyrics you were making it seem like you were offering me a deal or something, besides I wanted to record the song! Antagonist: I have... I can’t believe... Stay where you are.

* There’s an specific scenario that keeps reappearing in my mind: after following enough leads, the gang find themselves in a music nightclub. I keep imagining the 3 doing a beat-‘em-up style combat to reach da boss of the place. The songs are Blood Flows, Get Your Body Beat, WTF Is Wrong With you, etc.

* You Spin Me Round (3TEETH), this is one of those “opening scene chase sequences” kind of deal, with maybe Mitra doing the chasing in a motorcycle, face full of anger, going up in the highway towards a neon city, is it chasing or getting there in time?

* My Way (Frank Sinatra), it’s one of those songs that I would put a montage of destructive defeats, hopelessness with a hint of, well, hope. Kinda like the end of the Bardock movie! One vision I keep having is a shot of Rómina’s back, she’s facing multiple blasts from robots before she is able to use her detonator to wipe them all out, framing similar to how future Gohan’s end was portrayed in the DBZ Kakarot video game. Rómina’s story at the end is a prequel to the main lore of Mitra and Val, if it hadn’t been for Rómina blowing the mother base ship core thing... nobody would be alive... I imagine the start of this sequence as Rómina starting to record one last audio log for Mitra to listen at a later date, she clicks on record and leaves the tape recorder on the floor, the camera zooming on it slowly as when she hesitates to let go of it, she then leaps out of the frame attacking the robots, distant explosions and pain grunts of fury as the song keeps playing, the wall on the back getting Blood splattered the red emergency lights come in and her shadow can be seen in that same wall, she holds her torso with one arm as she pulls a gun with the other hand, the lights flashing and more and more robots burst into the room, before the camera finally cutting to her back, the song climaxing as she falls in slow motion...

im gonna talk about homestuck in 2023 under the cut and how it has influenced my art irreversibly but not just in the style in which i draw things but also in the way i imagine scenes, the way i interact with music, and the way i engage in the creation of fan works

genuinely still in love with the animation of the [s] panels in homestuck. they start as pretty utilitarian, but by enter, they're starting to get cinematic as hell. adore the use of minimal actual animation by just zooming and tweening that gets snappier and more satisfying to watch occur over time.

(the constant movement: always panning or zooming except in small key moments influenced SO MUCH in terms of amv and video editing in the time they were released. i do not have anything to back it up but i would absolutely put stock into the conspiracy that it really contributed to the back-and-forth inverse panning style that most video editing apps have nowadays.)

and yeah yeah it was fine and all but then we get make her pay and we get these sequences that have SMALL MOVING PARTS that are not just spritework from the comic panels themselves and are made specifically for the animation, but they're still fairly simple, like vriska's arm moving on an elbow hinge toward her face. it's mixed in with the same method of letting pan and zoom do some heavy lifting. parallax panning. animated-music-video vibe. that's what it was! animated music videos! i remember people getting excited about this prospect of indie-style, animated music videos in 2014 with mystery skulls and freak kitchen.

cascade. my teenage brain was forever changed by cascade. telling a story through animation was my fucking dream (it still is) and i am just now in recent years understanding, even after taking animation classes in school, how fucking incredible these things were at teaching (admittedly the basics of) animating shit. it had a multi-media feel: it was a good live example of how to use differences in style and detail to create emphasis and drama. how to keep a tight color palette (in pixelated scenes, anyway, it's something the fully illustrated scenes sort of missed), how to give the illusion of movement, how to keep an eye interested in the material through movement, how to frame and balance a shot. how to give a silly or lighthearted vibe vs a serious and dramatic one through pacing and expressions (expressions are something i've always struggled with and continue to do so, both in real life and in art).

most of FUCKING all, homestuck's art style is FUCKING INCREDIBLE at delivering art shorthand. the drawing of the basic shapes of hands without fully fleshing them out. no shading on limbs - so foreshortening looks more natural without extra rendering.

ok there were a couple that really hit and some that missed. sometimes both in the same flash. (personally not about to defend some of game over, although it did do a pretty good job of shit that others did not, which was keeping track of everything happening, where and when) and the earlier ones are waaaay more influential to my style.

some fucking day ill release one of the 463782469 animatics i have anywhere from half-to-two-thirds done and it'll probably be EXTREMELY apparent.

tl;dr the snappy, rubberbandy movements, constant panning and zooming, multimedia feel, and sparingly used hi-detail shots from the time of about make her pay up to cascade are just. imo fucking beautiful. they let you take in the music with a nice, interesting, emotional visual that easily and cleanly portrays a story. (the times it doesn't is a pacing issue, not a problem with the format.) i want to do shit like that. i want to make something that has a story like that, has replayability like that, and hits like that.

General Headcanons for the Brothers

These are just some thoughts that live in my head rent free. Enjoy!

Lucifer:

He is one of those people that cleans up his room/office of any clutter before anyone visits him JUST to obnoxiously insist how "awfully cluttered" his space is. It's all to maintain the illusion that his living space is immaculately cleaned but really with all of his paperwork and the chaos he deals with, it can clutter quickly. If he can't clean it up before a guest enters, he'll just cast a spell on the room that gives the illusion of cleanliness. His pride wouldn't have it any other way.

Mammon:

This dude would be covered in piercings, all with diamond or 24 karat gold jewelry if he could. Lucifer will not let him, however, calling it tacky and embarrassing if he has more than just his ears pierced. That doesn't stop Mammon though, as he likely has a few hidden piercings here and there. Like a tongue piercing or piercings in more private areas.

If Mammon senses that his brothers are feeling down, big brother mode will kick in and he'll do something to cheer them up, even if it means getting himself into trouble. He may try to make them laugh or take something to give them just to make them smile. If that doesn't work, sometimes he'll just do something dumb to take their mind off of their own issues and instead focus on "dumb Mammon". For him, it's worth getting into trouble but no one really knows this. He never tells.

Leviathan:

This guy is a vocaloid fan. Has cosplayed at least three of his favorites (Miku, Luka, Kaito) and owns all the Project Diva and Project Mirai games. He's a master at the hard levels and he mashes the buttons so quickly that the controller is hot afterwards. Don't take him to an arcade with a Project Diva. He can and will beat anyone who challenges him. Never drops a combo.

Smash is another story. He's fantastic as Super Smash Bros, yet somehow Asmo always beats him by button smashing. It ENRAGES him, as a SSB connoisseur who follows and watches all the professional tournaments.

Leviathan glows under black light. Something about bio luminescence in his more aquatic nature makes the dude glow under black light, even in his human form. He hates it, as it makes him stand out in the clubs that Asmo drags him to.

Satan:

Satan loves Studio Ghibli films. It didn't start that way, as he had seen Levi watch one before and simply chalked it up to being simple anime, which Satan has no interest in. Yet, after reading Howl's Moving Castle, he decided to watch the movie adaptation and be the angry judge of how accurate it was to the book. Despite the ghibli adaptation being so divergent of the books plot, he fell in love with the calm atmosphere that it gave. After that, he asked Levi to let him watch all of the films. Satan's favorite is The Cat Returns, despite his proclamation that it is on of the weakest of the Ghibli films. He won't let anyone know that it's his favorite, but the idea of a secret cat kingdom is so enthralling to him. He prolly listens to ghibli piano covers as he reads.

Speaking of cat kingdoms and books, Satan DEFINITELY had a Warrior Cats phase. He read all of the books and still denies that he used to watch Warrior Cats AMVs (he can't lie, Belphegor caught him and uses it to tease him)

Asmodeus:

Asmo had a theater kid phase and drug Satan into it. Both of them love Broadway plays, Asmo being one who loves musicals and Satan being one who enjoys story writing and literature. Asmo tried his best to start a drama club at RAD and succeeded to a degree, but ultimately lost interest when he realized how much work it was to constantly put on productions. It dug into his self care time.

Asmos love for plays started with the classical Greek plays, which also got him into Greek myths. He knew it was all human fiction, but honey the ☆aesthetic☆.

Little fact about Asmo, his demon anatomy has a special little quirk. Under his tongue are two little glands that he can use to mix a potent aphrodisiac into his saliva. This is usually just for times when he's indulging in his sin, but sometimes a little will make its way into his saliva on a normal occasion. If anyone drinks after him, beware that it might be a day when this secretion is a little more potent. Hell, if he licks someone they might start to feel a certain type of way as the chemical seeps into their skin. But alas, with someone he cherishes, he makes sure to give them chaste kisses in case deepening it could have unforseen outcomes.

Beelzebub:

He's a bug saver. Not just because his demon form is insect-like in quality or that his namesake means Lord of the Flies, but because he feels bad for them. They're so small and helpless and he can't help but sympathize. Little spider in his room? He just wants a comfy place to live. The brothers shriek when a devildom recluse spider makes its way into their space, but Beel calmly scoops it into his hand to take it outside. He tries to be as gentle as possible but accidents happen. One time, Asmo begs Beel to remove a moth from his room that he fears will eat his clothes. Beel tries to remove it, but in the process accidentally squishes it. Afterwards, Beel always goes off to grab a cup to trap moths in because they're just too fragile for his strong grip.

Belphegor:

He can enter into people's dreams and alter them. A lot of times he simply observes, but sometimes he way wreak havoc and turn dreams into nightmares. When the brothers wonder why he knows strange things about them, he keeps his mouth shut about spectating their dream the night before. Can and will use what he learns for blackmail, if given the chance.

So rather than making opinions on the Wings of Fire books, I really think we should assert our attention to the TV show, before they ruin it. They're probably already in the storyboarding phase, but we've already criticized the heck out of the animation and story of the original books. So I want to talk about something I've noticed the Wings of Fire community never talks about; the music in Wings of Fire. Now before you say music in TV shows is nowhere near as good as Taylor Swift or BTS and that it doesn't matter, hold my Honeycombs while you listen to this piece from Amphibia:

Music is one of the most important aspects of everything. It can turn a simple pixel game like Undertale into an emotional rollercoaster and a show like Steven Universe into one of the most uplifting, inspirational masterpieces. Do I even need to demonstrate with "It's Over Isn't It" or "Stronger Than You"? Music is awesome, and I've noticed that the Wings of Fire community lacks original music artists (Or I just haven't heard of any, but chances are that they are really underrated if I haven't heard of any... so still).

The Wings of Fire TV show needs to have good music to even spark my interest. Many shows have released their original soundtracks on Soundcloud or YouTube like OK K.O. and Steven Universe because they're just that good enough to listen to on their own. Tui, Ava and the rest of the team have to consider the music when they're working on the scenes for the show. Toby Fox often composed the music for his games before he even wrote the dialogue for his scenes because it played such an important role in generating the correct emotions within the viewer. So I really think they should go with a similar strategy because let's just look at Toby's games, they're flawless! And also, Wings of Fire has to have some lyrical songs like the shows that came before it! I would kill for an "It's Over Isn't It" type song with Winter and Moonwatcher.

Now let's talk about the kind of music that they should probably go for. And of course, the first thought would have to be ancient, old-timey music. If I've learned one thing from playing the Calamity Mod, it's that ancient times don't need ancient themes. Look at what Dokuro could do with the Profaned God, Providence's theme:

Like would you expect electronic music for an ancient, fire god like this? Of course not! BUT IT SOUNDS SO FREAKING GOOD AND FITS PERFECTLY WITH THE INTENSITY OF THE FIGHT!

In conclusion, the Wings of Fire TV show does not need to be old-timey with its music. It can be electronic or orchestral or anything really! I personally think that a mix of these two would fit perfectly for the show. Orchestral Disney-type music would work for the normal scenes in the show where everything's calm, and when the action starts, they can whip out the electric keyboard, electric guitar and bass and add a little bit more feeling to the bloodshed that's already occurring. And those reoccurring melodies will be essential to the show! Mother 3 demonstrated what melodies can do to your emotional state when stretched to the extreme! They have got to have a reoccurring main theme! And they have got to make a good, catchy theme song that reflects the "this is not just a kid's show" side of Wings of Fire!

But in all honesty, it would be awesome if they made Wings of Fire a musical TV show like Steven Universe. They both have a war setting with traumatized characters with really powerful moments that could really be stretched far beyond with a lyrical song. The Wings of Fire community already seems to love Maps, AMVs and PMVs, so let's get some original songs in the show for us to obsess over too!

FULL REVIEWS: My Fave Five Characters

We end the FULL REVIEW series (for now) with my fave five characters of The Owl House. If you read my reviews you proably have a good idea of what my list would look like but let’s do it anyway. 

5. Hooty aka Hooty Hoot aka Hooty Hoot Hoot-Hoot

I think Hooty is just so freaking funny! His cute little design, the voice that Alex Hirsch give him, the fact that he’s just a face connected to a tube, and how since he spends all day being the door of The Owl House he’s so desperate for attention that he’s super cringy and everyone gets super annoyed and disgusted by him. Every joke they’ve done with him has landed for me and I hope they keep doing it. Hoot.

4. The King of Demons aka King

I know a lot of people get put off by the Small Name, Big Ego trope, but I like it when they play it off for laughs. Not for when it’s used to actively make the audience dislike a character. King is like a little kid mixed with a pet who can talk with a wannabe king mixed in. I’m more surprised that he’s not only a great source of jokes, but also a good source of heartfelt moments like in Sense and Insensitivity and Really Small Problems. 

3. Luz Noceda aka Luz the Human

I’ve said before that the first thing that I noticed about Luz was her name because it’s also my mom’s name. The other thing I noticed is how much of a fangirl she is. I mean, they even say in the first episode that one of her hobbies is making AMVs (”...editing anime clips to music.”). She’s really relatable that way especially for someone like me who has been into fandom for a long while.

I’ve talked often in my reviews about Luz’s major character flaws of overstepping her bounds and expecting things to play out like a movie. But we also see that Luz is a very affectionate person. Everything she does comes from love. Hell, she even says “I love you” to Eda and King every time she leaves the house. Really. Go back and see it. 

2. Edalyn Clawthorne aka Eda the Owl Lady

If I had to describe Eda in one word it would be entertaining. She’s an overconfident con artist of a witch who knows she’s good at what she does. Wendie Malick is the perfect/only voice for Eda. I know she was a huge stand out when the show first started. She always has the best lines. Whether it’s elevating the B-plot or dealing with the curse in the main plot, Eda is a highlight of this show.

1. Amity Blight aka Mittens

Talk about the breakout character of this show. Even more than Eda. What started out as the bully/rival character turned out to be a complex bundle of emotions that everyone just came to love. I think that’s something that people underestimate is the journey of understanding a character. Starting with a good character is okay, but starting with someone flawed and complex and watching them grow is great. They did that with Amity.

And honestly, I was kinda hoping to see Mae Whitman play a bully. In I Was A Teenage Abomination, she was so good at being a total bitch. Luckily we got something better. I look forward to seeing her grow, and I wish the best for her relationship for Luz.

FRUITS BASKET S2 EPISODE 7 RECAP AKA ‘TOP TIER FURUBA SHIT’

An accurate representation of me getting ready to talk about this episode. 

My guys... this episode pretty much hit all the points for me in what I expect of a Fruits Basket episode... and more! I loveeee this episode. I gotta admit last week’s episode was a bit of a shoulder shrug for me cos it was mostly a set up for the beach ‘arc’ but this. episode. I have way too many screen caps, I don’t know how I’ll do this. 

And we open up with a big ‘fuck no’. I love the flash forward just to prepare the audience for a whole lot of hurt. Excellent. *pours myself a glass of wine*

- Hiro: “Yeah, yeah, yeah, Mum, just don’t trip over, ok?” Sorry about that guys, I just found out my Mum’s pregnant Everyone: Whaaaaa?!

Hiro’s nonchalance of it all had me dying 😂

I appreciate the ‘dog’ fan. Definitely accurate in more ways than one. Strike one.

Strike TWO. The fact he said that in front of not only Tohru but KISA AND HIRO is so gross. I’m not even joking. It’s just gross. Not a great joke at all. Poo poo.

STRIKE THREE. Akito... please come get your dog. It’s the only useful thing you can do rn anyway

Wow, Yuki. I actually teared up a little at his realisation. This whole episode should just be called ‘call 999 for these kids’.

Hiro’s mum just sounds like a Furuba fan tbh 😝😂 Also... are the zodiac members born in their animal forms? Or is it just in the first instance they are held by a parent of the opposite sex? Cos if it’s the first option, that’s pretty... messed up. But, theoretically hilarious at the same time!

Ohhhh... Tohru’s one of those people who like to push aside their own problems and focus on other people’s instead... Except, it’s not in an annoying and judge-y way at all. However, I am beginning to question whether she is actually that selfless and the real root of it is that Tohru needs a distraction from her own pain. Either way, it’s sad and I don’t think she’s doing it consciously at all which makes it even sadder.

Oh, Tohru.

Also, appreciation for Momiji being a human backpack at all times. And I love his cat eared hat! I want one! Our Outfit Appreciation Winner this week. 4 stars.

- Kisa/Hiro being a mini version of Kyoru was basically confirmed this episode and I am happy.

Such a gorgeous moment. Pretty much met the feelings and emotions I got from reading this moment in the manga AND MORE. It’s golden. And I love it. ...‘nuff said.

- Kyo being so open and honest and vulnerable with Tohru to a point where he mistakenly already thinks he told Tohru all about his parents already is just... everything to me. Especially from someone like Kyo who’s constantly carrying all this baggage around. But jeez, we always forget that Tohru’s got baggage she’s carrying around too! Tohru and Kyo on surface level look like such opposites in every way but remove some layers and they are so similar, it’s uncanny! 😍🤡

I just love developing relationships. 🥰

- Kyoko definitely wanted to destroy that flowerpot 😈 We love her. We miss her.

He’s so in love with her, I can’t. I’m gonna cry. <3 Also, that expression feels like a very Kazuma expression, is it just me?

I love Hatori. :) I mean he wouldn’t actually slice his gut open but it still means a lot to me that he said he would...

This go around of Fruits Basket has made me realise how much I relate to him and his position in the family. Every anime has a character that’s in their twenties and just... tired and I always relate best to them, shoutout to Keishin Ukai from Haikyuu.

Even though I hate Akito, I have an appreciation for the subtle shit the animators/designers do whenever they come onto screen. All of Akito’s actions have a kinda feather-lightness/almost ethereal feel to them and the way Akito is contrasted against not only the scenery but the other characters around them is... so gooood. I’ve already talked about how I love the emphasis on the presence of Akito in their first appearance in the anime but... I’ll still be talking about it cos it’s great. And I can’t wait to hear Colleen Clinkenbeard in this ep, but Maaya Sakamoto was stellar in this episode (fun fact: did you know she also played Haruhi in OHSHC?!?).

But yeah, I still hate Akito. Sorry.

- Kisa’s little sigh of relief that Tohru doesn’t have to meet Akito was already HEARTBREAKING but mixed with this moment....?!?!

- Kinda sad that Kyo and Tohru had the house to themselves but there was so much weird and bad energy in the air that they couldn’t even really enjoy their pancakes :(

- That Akito and Shigure and Hatori (and partially Kureno) scene just really... disgusted me. To see someone have that much power in their touch and their words is... freaky and unsettling. And I love it cos it’s interesting but I also hate it soooo much. I have nothing more to say about it besides that really. I was more interested in the Shigure and Hatori moment afterwards...

That’s a nice way of putting it...

Maybe this was to be taken mostly as a joke, but do you think that Shigure actually wants Hatori to remind him how much of a shitbag he’s being? Most of my problem with Shigure (and why I actually liked 2001!Shigure but let’s not go there again) is that out of everyone in this series, he’s the most untouched. And yet he schemes and manipulates and seems to get everything he wants. AND what makes it even worse and annoying and spectacular, is that Shigure’s little nudges and pushes of the chess pieces which are the zodiac members aren’t so obvious to the extent that you could only blame him for it. It’s almost genius, if it weren’t so repulsive. 

*sighs* I just really want him to either repent or feel some kind of guilt afterwards. 

...Hence why I’m most interested in where he’s at after the end of this all.

All I want is a scene between him and Tohru, somewhat like this:

...Ok, this moment made me like Shigure just by 5% more this episode. Still trying to figure out that Shigure/Akito relationship literally a decade later tho...

BACK TO SOME KINDA HAPPY(?) STUFF!

I love love love love love this moment between Yuki and Tohru. It was gorgeous!

I wish this scene were longer so I could make an AMV (if I really felt like it) with Coldplay’s ‘A Sky Full Of Stars’. The lyrics match the moment so much and I definitely cried.

Oh, Yuki...

It was such a beautiful way to end this episode. Wow.

And Yuki’s words to Tohru that ‘she’s just like the sky’ has so many meanings to it and I want to go into it but I’ll start really explicitly going into spoilers. So, I’ll just leave it as poetic cinema.

God, this was such a good episode, guys! I’d probably put this episode on the same level as the True Form episode. It gave us furuba shenanigans, it gave us kyoru, it gave us disgust and hurt and it gave us a moment of someone rising out of the ashes!

Some dumb Team Spicer OT3 headcanons no one wants to hear but I’m gonna say them anyways:

Jack has a thing with personal space and doesn’t like being touched by pretty much anyone and hates physical contact as a whole, except for maybe hugs from Mom. However, he’s severely touch-starved and the more he falls for Jermaine and Timber, the more he not only allows for physical contact from both of them, but he initiates it too. Sitting closer to them, leaning on their shoulder, that sort of thing.

Eventually when they do become a thing he then becomes this barnacle that is always hugging or leaning or lounging on one of them at all times. They’re his safe space and he shows it by being close to them.

I’m still debating on whether Timber’s short hair becomes a permanent look, but I like to think that if it becomes long again, Jack has a habit of playing with it and petting it because it’s so soft and fluffy. And because it’s Jack, Timber let’s him.

Since one is a martial artist and the other is a wilderness nut,Jermaine and Timber are both pretty physically strong. And Jack 👏 is 👏 here 👏 for 👏 it 👏 He’s into physical strength.

Before Xiaolin training Jack is pretty wimpy and nowhere near as physically fit as he should be because he spends most of his time building robots in a lab. Since he’s so slow and kind of a load in an emergency, Timber often just picks him up and carries him. He pretends to hate it and won’t stop complaining when she does it, but he actually kind of likes being carried around like that. He’s always lowkey impressed by it.

He has tried or will try carrying her just to get back at her and it never ends well.

Jermaine is the strongest of Team Spicer and can carry both of his partners. However since he’s also the shortest member he rarely does it because it’s way too easy to lose balance.

Timber never really played any sport except hockey because...well, because Canada (and also no friends), but I like to think that Jermaine teaches her how to play basketball and she just loves it. She likes playing it and when he finally takes her to a game she likes watching it too. Jermaine loves the way it brings out her competitive spirit and her sense of wonder as a whole.

Jermaine’s favorite things about Timber are her enthusiasm, her curiosity, her creativity, her ability to stand on her own two feet, her outspokenness, her wild nature (pun intended), her wilderness skills, her thirst for adventure and knowledge and her smile.

His favorite things about Jack are his innovative nature, his feistiness, his intelligence, his competitiveness, the cute and silly faces he makes when he’s sketching out new blueprints for one of his inventions, his eyes, his awkward and adorkable moments, his defiant nature and the way he just doesn’t quit no matter what life throws at him.

Jermaine also likes Timber’s laugh and Jack’s smile. Neither of them are prone to laughing or smiling and as they grow closer Jermaine makes a point to try to get each one to do both. He genuinely wants to see these two disasters realize how beautiful and amazing and incredible they really are.

Slight spoilers but Jermaine ends up suffering from nightmares after the events of MW! due to reasons I won’t go into. He’s alright but healing is a slow process and it takes time to get over trauma, and the nightmares are intense and leave him in a cold sweat and make it hard for him to get some rest. The only way he feels safe enough to go back to sleep is if he’s with Jack and Timber. So for a long time after the fic, the three have nightly sleepovers so Jermaine can actually get some sleep. He wakes up, freaks out, talks it out with them, sometimes Timber makes him some tea with her super potent lavender and chamomile flowers and after they just all fall back asleep.

Jack is the first to catch Feelings. Next is Timber. Jermaine, for all his virtues, is incredibly thick and can’t seem to understand that both of the people in his party are crushing on him pretty hard. Sadly it’s because he doesn’t really think he’s good enough for anyone to like him.

In this universe, Jack and Jermaine are both bi, but only Jack is aware of his own orientation. Jermaine is not. At least, not for long.

Jack’s color motif is mostly black, Timber’s color motif is mostly blue and Jermaine’s is mostly red with yellow accents. Why?

They’re the colors of the poly flag :)

Spoiler but once they start dating, everyone’s in a tizzy about it. But hands down the person who is most shocked and/or disturbed by this turn of events is...Chase Young. Despite the fact that he used the boy as a pawn in a scheme, he did get somewhat attached to Jermaine. He was after all a good student and Chase is honorable enough to respect legit talent and effort. The moment he hears that his talented former Apprentice is dating both the student of his oldest rival AND Jack freaking Spicer, he goes through all five stages of grief before running straight to the Xiaolin Temple, finding Jermaine and telling him “I’m sorry for your loss”.

As you can imagine, Jermaine isn’t pleased.

Timber’s family is dysfunctional and abusive, and Jack’s family is distant and neglectful, if well intentioned. So I like to think they both find a healthy family dynamic in Jermaine’s mom, grandmother and older sister.

They try to keep their relationship a secret from anyone outside the Temple, but eventually their families find out. Jermaine’s family is very supportive, but you better believe Ivory grilled Jack and Timber pretty hard once she realized these two idiots were in a relationship with her baby brother. But eventually they do have a supportive dynamic with each other (with Timber slightly more successful than Jack on the grounds that Jack is a show off and Ivory doesn’t like show offs).

Jack’s Dad is shocked and doesn’t really know how to handle it but since Jack is genuinely happy for once in his life he’s got no beef and just quietly lets them be - with one exception. Jack’s Dad is relatively famous and in the news all the time, so he’s used to being paparazzi fodder and having tabloids spin stuff on him. But the moment they try to belittle Jack for his relationship with his partners, Jason puts an end to it. IMMEDIATELY. Jason may not understand his son, but he will always love him.

Jack’s mom is devastated, but not because he’s poly - it’s because as a hardcore supporter of Jack getting married and giving her lots of grandkids to spoil (she’s that kind of mom), she’s been budgeting his future wedding for years, LITERAL YEARS, so that the moment he finds The One, they can get hitched with no fuss. And now suddenly she has to budget for a whole other person. One and a half decades of planning RUINED.

Timber’s mom and step-dad.....even I’m not sure. But Kallik and Hanta still care about their sister, even if they’re terrible at showing it. And once they get wind of what’s happening, Timber’s brothers get overprotective and overstep their boundaries in an effort to drive off these “playboys” from toying with their sister’s heart. That is, until Timber puts them in their place.

I like to think that Kallik and Hanta eventually do find a way get along with Jack and Jermaine, if only for the fact they can watch over Timber when they can’t....but it’s a slow process. After all, they’re still working on repairing their relationship with their sister.

Poly families exist in real life (and happily so depending on the family) so maybe when the members of Team Spicer are all grownups and are at a good age to start a family, they get married and have kids? I dunno. It’s a hypothetical situation for now since the whole “Xiaolin Dragon” thing is more or less a lifelong deal and that would get in the way of raising kids. But I like to think that if they do have kids, they have a boy named Jake who raises a lot of Hell (like his birth Dad), and a girl named Jazmine who likes to kick evil’s butt (like her birth Dad).

Slightly spoilery but our Team each end up with an army of their own - Jack has his robots, Timber has her plants and Jermaine has loyal jungle cat soldiers. So if they did have kids, those would hands down be the most well protected kids on the face of the earth. Also maybe the most...interesting, since being raised with killer robots, killer plants and dangerous animals might make for some unnaturally fearless kids.

Jermaine is the glue that holds them all together. Jack and Timber come to love each other dearly but Jermaine is so influential to the both of them that neither one can imagine life without him.

Same with Jermaine and both of them. Timber and Jack are both crazy, they’re both stubborn, they’re both unpredictable, they cause trouble and break rules and he never knows what they’re gonna do next - and he loves that about them.

You know that person in the relationship that steals the other person’s hoodies to wear them? That’s Jack. And he doesn’t even say sorry.

Jack likes to flirt and tease Jermaine and Timber but when either of them reciprocate he gets all flustered and tsundere.

Jack and Timber both have jealousy issues but neither of them compare to Jermaine’s. He gets majorly angry when someone flirts with or gets too close to either of them - he just hides it well and is smart enough to know that Jack/Timber weren’t asking for it.

Jermaine is very protective and sometimes even overprotective. It’s an issue he’s gonna need to let go of.

Jermaine is pretty short for a boy and Timber is very tall for a girl. Jermaine doesn’t have issues about it, Timber does...but if anyone insults either of them, Jack throws hands. Like seriously he will fight you if you make a nasty comment about their height.

You see these three often chilling with each other because they are each other’s safe space.

Because they fell in love with each other while traveling the world, their idea of a date together is grabbing the Tiger Claws, warping to a random location and exploring it together. It’s a tradition they keep up even as they get older.

They genuinely love and care for each other very, very much.

That’s all for now but I have more headcanons for these guys. Trust me.

Healin' Good Precure Episodes 19-20

I'm gonna be honest with you all here, I don't know how to start this one. I've watched these two episodes back to back TWICE and I have so many mixed feelings, I have no idea how to put my thoughts in a cohesive order for this post to make at least a little bit of sense. So bear with me because I have a lot of conflicting emotions.

So beginning from the basic stuff, Episode 19 was strong, with great emotional moments, and I loved it for almost all of its run-time. Episode 20 was a bit of a letdown, the emotional parts didn't work as well, and what were supposed to be great moments felt like they needed a little more gas to me, and how things were solved in this episode made me like the previous one a little less than I did on my first watching.

You see, my major problem with how both of these episodes went down is that the pay off for the build-up wasn't exactly that satisfying.

When the matter is Mid-season Cures, my preference will always go to when the character that will become said Cure has already been introduced before because these are characters we already know and already had some development so when the "Curefication" happens that moment feels like a turning point or an essential moment for those previously established characters arcs. When they become Cures, it's rewarding, it's exciting, and when they need to integrate that character with the original group it feels more natural because they already knew each other, at least to a certain level.

Cure Earth's case falls under the situation I like the least, where a character comes out of nowhere, transforms, and saves the day. And I don't know how to feel about those situations because I don't know that character, I don't know how I should feel about them. When they just appear it's not a rewarding build-up, it's frustrating. It feels like a Cure Ex-Machina and it can ruin what in other circumstances could've been a great moment. And the way things happened in these two episodes felt just like that.

Episode 19 was everything centered around Rate, it was an episode where we finally got to know more of her and see her thoughts for once in a situation where the girls had to run to fight a monster right after. She was sick, she was feeling weak and powerless, and the entire episode was walking in a path where Rate would be the main star. Whatever happened there, it should be Rate in the spotlight, it was Rate's moment. But in the end, she didn't do anything and she was just the poor, defenseless little puppy that she has been all this time along. And in Episode 20 she was robbed even more of her spotlight, she didn't even get a chance to help in the battle like the other healing animals and it felt like such a missed opportunity. The sensation I had was that originally Rate was supposed to give a group power-up at this moment and this would be like a level up for her, but because they're so bound in this "Sixth Ranger" tradition they changed the focus to a character that literally didn't exist before she was needed to exist.

And I feel like I would be more okay with this if Rate at least had an active participation in creating Asumi and making her Cure Earth, you know? Rather than making Teatinu being the one who awakened the spirit, it could've been Rate that did it, it would show how powerful she is and how much she has grown and it would go hand-in-hand with her conflicts we've seen earlier in the episode. It would also serve as the reason why Asumi feels so connected with Rate and her strong feelings about protecting her, without mentioning it would explain why Rate was able to bond with her and turn her into her Cure partner immediately instead of the three characters that for 20 episodes have been giving their all to take care of her.

With that being said, I also had many things that I liked in these two episodes. Seeing the girls caring for Rate in Episode 19 was very endearing, Nodoka waking up in the middle of the night to give her comfort, Chiyuu skipping club activities to be with her because she's concerned, Hinata taking advice from costumers of her family's clinic to give help on her own way, even Nodoka's father that was there just to be comic relief, all of these moments were pretty sweet.

And the magical-girl-centered part of the episode was pretty good as well. For example, I like that because Rate is sick with a real illness she can't feel the Earth calling for help so the girls go unaware of the Mega-Byougen wreaking havoc in the mountains which gave Batetemoda a huge head start so the monster was stronger than usual which lead to the cures being trapped in that situation, that eventually lead to Rate taking up action where it gave Batetemoda a chance to capture her which triggered Cure Earths birth at that moment. Aside from the problem of a character coming out of nowhere, it was a natural progression of events that had me on the edge of my seat for the entire second half of the episode.

And Earth's entrance was pretty cool as well, the way she fought the Mega-Byougen doing all of those jumps and kicks was amazing, and seeing her creating an Elemental Bottle made me go crazy. Her second fight on Episode 20 was even better, going toe-to-toe with Batetemoda and sweeping the floor with him and the powered-up Mega-Byougen, that was awesome. My mind went places when she reveals she's not a human, and that she's technically a newborn. That paired with how clueless she is about everything and how she acts a little silly at times made it for an awesome time following her around. I joked about it on twitter, but Asumi sounds exactly like Anju from PriChan, and not just because Mimori Suzuko is doing the exact same voice she does for Anju but because this "cluelessness" reminds me a lot of how Anju acts sometimes whenever she's hiding her true identity. I'm just waiting for the time where someone will do an AMV of Cure Earth with Fortune Karat playing in the background and an edit of Anju's coord change with Earth transformation song playing as the background.

Oh, and by the way, can we talk about how freaking gorgeous she is? Both in civilian and Cure form. Earth is one of the prettiest Cures ever and if you don't think so I recommend you to leave because I don't think we can be friends (jk, I condemn favorites shaming XD). I love her transformation, I love her attack, I love her weapon. I'm all here for these aesthetics and I have no doubt that in a couple of weeks I'll be here with an "I ♡ EARTH" headband and two purple lightsticks going "GO EARTH! GO EARTH!" because of that. Like, I can get tired of it??? From Rate's running to Asumi, to her grabbing Rate's little paws, to them snuggling each other TWICE, how her hair changes, and how she gets her earrings and the winged headpiece everything in that transformation is perfect. And gosh, the attack, after 20 episodes with attack animations that weren't all that exciting or inventive how fresh it feels to have a Healing Hurricane to blow us all away.

I think from these episodes the only thing I can't forgive it's the villains' side of things, again. Like, they just lost their more interesting member, and now I just don't feel as engaged with the villains once more. Also, that power-up thing coming from a Mega-Byougen fragment was also a bit meh. More because we haven't really seen that being mentioned before, you know? And it's not like they didn't have the chance to explain it either, I believe Batetemoda was born from something with similar properties so they could've introduced this element before. I don't know, I'm just sad my good boy is gone and now we're stuck again with those boring three and the main villain that probably had less screen time than a side character so far.

Another sadness was the new ending. I'm sorry y'all but I don't like this song, I don't like this dance, I don't like the visuals for this ending, and I'm just very sad. I'm gonna miss Miracle tto Link♡Ring SO SO MUCH... and this Ending doesn't even have hints for what the next season will be, I'm sad.
