Can I say something. While I do enjoy the occasional behind the scenes tidbit I do feel like it’s a net negative for the Dragon Age fandom to have direct access to the writers (past and present) in the way that we do.

This was prompted by that post where Mary Kirby confirmed on Bluesky (?) that Lucanis is meant to be demisexual. (I am absolutely NOT being critical of whoever asked her about it, the OP of that post, or anyone in the thread.) I’m an aspec fan who likes Lucanis’s character a lot, and I love the idea of him being demi and of having more ace rep in the games.

But like. I think being able to get constant word-of-god information about what the writers were thinking/intending while creating the game kind of takes away from… what is actually in the text. It sucks that my first thought when I saw that post was “interesting to know she intended that because I would have conveyed that differently”* followed by “I really really hope people won’t bother others in the fandom who don’t depict him that way for ‘erasing an aspec character’.” Because in the text, he is not explicitly that!

I also hope that people who say that his romance felt slow or underdeveloped don’t get told to shut up for the same reason, OR because people take it as criticism of Mary Kirby, who feels cool and accessible and deserving of protection due to her social media presence. Like I don’t think it has to be about her at all to say that, taking his romance as a whole, it felt lacking compared to others in the series or even the game. We’ve had romance options in Dragon Age who wanted to take it slow, who had hang ups around physical intimacy due to physical and mental trauma, who let the PC down gently if they were outside that character’s interests—but in those it was still clear whether there were reciprocated feelings (or at least some kind of reaction at all) even in early flirting.

Idk how much of the weirdness in that romance came from Mary Kirby being let go or from other developmental hiccups or corporate pressures or from me just disagreeing with how she wrote it, but I don’t think I should NEED to know all that to be able to say “idk I think it could have been handled in a more narratively satisfying way.”

*not necessarily via a totally modern language declaration of “actually I’m [identity]” (side eye) but via like… scenes of that being relevant in how the characters interact…

Run Little Bird

The warm air brushed Tim’s hair around his face. Through the trees he could just make out the last rays of sunlight beaming down. Beyond he could faintly hear the sound of waves crashing against the cliff side.

Was a remote island the best place to do this, probably not. Was it the only place they could do this without being interrupted, of course. They both had images to uphold after all. They hated each other but god damn did that make their encounters all the more fun.

The hairs on the back of Tim’s neck stood, his fingers tightening over his bo staff. Dressed in jeans and a t-shirt it looked very much out of place.

Keeping his eyes forward taking in each path, noting the height of branches, the shift in the wind. The presence stopped right behind him.

“You sure you're still okay with this?” Chapped lips brushed the shell of his ear.

Tim leaned his body back against Jason’s, head on the other man’s shoulder as he stared up at him. Jason was fully armored up, sans helmet which was loosely held in his left hand.

One of the guns on his chest dug into Tim’s back. Tim nodded, licking his own lips. “Yeah. Yeah I’m sure.”

Jason hummed, his free hand cupping Tim’s cheek. Leaning down enough to give him a soft kiss. Tim spun around yanking Jason down further, taking him by surprise before slipping his tongue into his gasping mouth.

Fingers entangled in the dark curled locks pulling a moan from Jason. Tim couldn’t help but smile into their kiss. Stepping away Jason’s fingers lingered on the scar at Tim’s throat.

“Run little bird…” Jason dropped his voice into a deeper octave, mimicking the voice modulator of his helmet. “If you can outlast me for an hour you’ll get a prize.”

“Mmm, and if I don’t?” Tim’s eyes fluttered, his swollen wet lips parting.

Jason’s grin set a shiver down Tim’s spine, his pupils doubling in size as his thumb swiped Tim’s cheek. “You become my fuck toy for the rest of the night.”

Tim bit back his groan, his cock jerking against the zipper of his jeans. Leaves crunched under Jason’s boots as he put a few feet of distance between them. “Better hurry, your five minute head start begins….” Jason’s helmet clicked as he latched it over his head. “Now.”

Dude this show has ruined me, I'm remembering the time someone was ranting to me that they just watched the latest episode of a show they were watching, and it left off on a cliffhanger so they couldn't wait to see the next episode, and I was like "omg no! Do you at least know when it's coming out?" And they were like "yeah? Next week?" tfw you remember that most shows do, in fact, have normal airing schedules
