The way Kirk’s voice is shaking during this scene. He looks like he holds back tears :( He already experiences grief from death of his brother and sister in law, witnessed how painful it was, and now his soulmate is also dying, and not only dying, he is suffering beyond comprehension, and still wants to help. You can almost hear his heart shattering when he hears once again how strong is the pain Spock feels, so strong, that Spock can’t maintain control. Jim looks like he will lose control soon as well.

Filler in Chapters?!

Want to add some filler between major events in your book but do not know how to go about it? I will try to help (while currently struggling with this at the moment... no I am definitely not ignoring this /sarcasm)

Think about the setting, what would make sense for the character/s to do?

Maybe introduce/foreshadow another character/s that will be important later on

Write something silly, give the character/s some breathing room before the next event

Have the characters bond over a shared something (or something one likes and the other does not)

Have the character/s reminisce about the previous events or their past

Could you set something up that will hurt/help the character/s down the road?

Write the aftermath of the major event, what happened to the character/s because of it?

Has there been a change in dynamics between characters?

Is there such a thing as too much filler?

Yes, it can be a little hard to judge at times when filler gets too dragged on. A good rule of thumb is to ask yourself how long it has been since something important/major to the plot happened. It is mostly up to you to draw the line as to the timeline of events.

Extra Notes:

If while writing (this goes for any part of a book) you get stuck somewhere, try writing a part of the story that is not as hard for you to write. This gives your brain more time to process and come up with an idea for what should go into the empty space.

Sometimes it is better to either focus on something else or take a break. Make sure to take care of yourself :D

I’m struggling, pretty severely, right now and I think it’s why this keeps playing in my head over and over. I’m a stay at home dad that’s prone to isolating when things gets bad so my worlds gotten kind of small in a way. But, when the clouds part and I can reach out to someone, this is what happens. They always, in their way, say “let me help”.

I guess I’m just sharing this for myself and for anyone else struggling or scared right now. Everyone around you loves you in some way and wants to help. It may just be holding a door for you, but even that is love.

I won’t stop talking about this- having someone just sit nearby helps me tackle otherwise impossible organizing tasks. I have no problem with washing dishes or running the vacuum, I’ll do that for any friend. I like hanging out with people, what do I care if we’re doing chores? Helping somebody move or renovate or giving them a ride to the airport is functionally the same as going mini-golfing or playing a board game: it’s an activity that you do that is made more fun by having good company, and which provides something to talk about when the conversation lulls.
