Guerlain Patchouli Paris, Diptyque Les Essences and Jo Malone London Hinoki & Cedarwood reviews - 2024
We have a new Guerlain! And it's a good one. We also have five new Diptyques... but maybe not all of them are good ones...
Japan, France and a coral reef at the bottom of an ocean were just three of our ports of call in a recent session of Love At First Scent, in which I covered new releases from Guerlain, Jo Malone London and Diptyque. Here are links to all the videos, followed, as ever, by further thoughts on some of the perfumes: Guerlain Patchouli Paris review — Jo Malone London Hinoki & Cedarwood review —…

Hello dear 🥰🤗 I would like to participate in
💠Goddess essence game💠.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thankyou in advance💖🎀
Hello, thank you so much for participating🤍
Your divine archetype:
❄🐇The embodyment of cycles of nature, from hungry feminine to renewal and fertility 🦢🌱
Your goddesses:
So firstly I want to say that all these goddesses and their archetypes(all of which somehow overlap with most others) are pretty important to you. The archetype I wrote just above was hard to come up with and at first you might not understand what I mean by that or why it was hard to come up with a shortened, specific description, but I hope you will, after reading the explanations. Multiple goddesses I am going to talk about can be easily coorelated to nakshatras that you don't even have but they also fit your overall chart. But beyond anything, trust your own judgement, and feel free to research.
Berchta/Perchta_ Alpine goddess of winter, silent nurturing, hag goddess but also a motherly supporter.
Jyeshta_ your moon (also your atmakaraka) nakshatra is associated with infertility and dryness, but also to protection, courage and eventual victory. In feminines/females, it's the nakshatra of grandmothers and their wisdom.
Berchta has been demonized as a scary entity, especially for children, after Christianity spread in Europe. Despite that image she's still a motherly, protective, feminine presence that used to be recognized as a protector of children specifically.
Tumblr media
So Jyeshta does coorelate to winter goddesses but Hasta nakshatra is associated with the feminine in her unresponsive state, not unlike Jyeshta. It represents the cycles of nature, the harvest and the barren land, the interplay between fall, winter and spring, between death and renewal. Also, Berchta's name comes from the birch tree_ an evergreen tree that survives the winter. Evergreens can be coorelated to Jyeshta.
While the whole chart is important, your big three_ sun, moon and ascendant, and their influence are enhanced in your case, all in different ways. The most important placement_ moon is conjunct ketu in the same nakshatra_ Jyeshta. Ketu is also a very significant placement and uniquely so. Together with the moon it represents the comfort zone a person in a chart, which in your case is more specific and amplified. The interesting thing is that you might have a love-hate relationship with that part of yourself, because Moon is debilitated in Scorpio, particularly in Anuradha nakshatra, but Ketu is exalted in Jyeshta.
Your Hasta ascendant determines your chart ruler, which is Mercury(Virgo rising), and in your case it is also in Hasta, which is its exaltation nakshatra.
Your Sun_ the natural atmakaraka(soul significator/planet) is in Purva Phalguni, a Leo nakshatra, which is its natural sign, and at the highest degree, making it your actual atmakaraka.
So all of these placements are enhanced in unique ways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Going back to Berchta, the themes of winter, cycles of death and rebirth that are tied with her connect to Jyeshta(Jyeshta is in Scorpio, sign of the 8th house of death and transformation) and Hasta.
The nurturing aspect of Berchta and the birch tree association can be coorelated to Purva Phalguni_ a Venusian nakshatra of ease, enjoyment and procreation. Birches and its coorelated rune in Germanic people has long been associated with quiet nurturing and growth, along with feminine pleasure.
You also have Mars in Purva Phalguni with the Sun and they're in your 12th house_ the house of isolation and all things hidden(fitting with the winter, quiet/silent themes), also of dispersion and bed pleasures. You have Venus in Swati, Libra, which enhances the feminine and nurturing aspect. You also have exalted Rahu in Rohini(Taurus) which, again, adds to the feminine and nurturimg, Venusian quality. The fact that it's your Rahu, so it's connected to your Ketu and Moon in Jyeshta makes it an interesting interplay within you, once again emphasizing the hungry and barren/feminine and fertile nature of the feminine and of the nature itself.
A goddess that is widely considered to be similar to her is Holda or Frau Holle. Some say she's her predecessor(that Berchta and her worship came from the existence and worship of Holda). You might like to look into her so I thought I'd mention her.
Sidenote: to clarify, I should state that the nakshatra I would associate with Berchta amd Holda would be Bharani. Berchta's name means "the bearer" and she's said to wear three keys on her belt, likely representing the cycle of birth/death/rebirth or the maiden/mother/crone archetypes of the female. I think that it could also represent the three fates found in many mythologies. You do have a nakshatra that has thematic similarities to Bharani_ Hasta, and another Venusian nakshatra_ Purva Phalguni. Jyeshta shares themes of death and rebirth with it so your chart overall does seem fitting.
Tumblr media
Some interesting things about Berchta: she was said to wear her long, black hair in braids on the sides of her head, her gown was said to be long and white. The latter part might be reason why people refer to her as "the white lady" or "the lady in white". Another image of her is the goddess as a crone in a discheveled dress. She was said to be a shapeshifter_ related to Mercury(Jyeshta's lord). She has been described as "goose-footed", also as taking the form of a swan(geese were used as guard dogs in Medieval times, so, she has been recognized as the protector of the wildlife in a sense), called "guardian of beasts", she's associated with:
Birch, holly, flax, mayflower and wild berries.
Geese, swans, mountain goats, crickets, owls and foxes are her animal coorelations. Some include other Alpine animals such as the ibex, weasel, marmot, stork.
She's said to live in the mountains, or in a cottage surrounded by gardens that are a home to lost souls.
She is associated with "the wild hunt"_ a procession of witches, spirits and demons riding through the skies and collecting the souls of the dead.
Anyways, there are other goddesses I should talk about.
Athena_ Greek goddess of wisdom, (military/battle) strategy and architecture.
So this is the goddess that is directly associated with Jyeshta. They share the symbol of the owl. Both are associated with maturity, strategy(especially battle strategies or just tactical warfare in general). Jyeshta is the nakshatra that conquers and closes out the second part of nakshatras representing the civilization.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I should say that Hasta is also associated with feminine smarts in terms of worldly wisdom and even encouragement of females towards independence.
Speaking of Hasta, goddesses often associated with it are Egyptian Isis, and Greek Perspehone. While Hasta is not the whole of your chart it is an important part of it. Just mentioning them to help in case you wanna research.
Cailleach_ Celtic winter goddess from Scotland Ireland and Isle of Man. I won't explain in detail why I chose her anymore but I think you'll understand anyways. She's a veiled(Hasta) hag goddess of winter(Jyeshta). She was said to be Cailleach for only half a year, after that she transformed into Brigid_ a Celtic goddess I associate with Krittika(a nakshatra mostly in Taurus_ Scorpios's opposite sign). You also have that theme of going from winter to renewal and fertility interplay and not only with Scorpio Ketu and Taurus rahu, both of which are exalted. She's also a shapeshifter and protector of wild animals. You should research her for additional info.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One more goddess I'm going to mention is Morgan le Fay along with her another version_ The Morrigan, a triple goddess of war, death, fate, crows and ravens. I have a post specifically about her archetype and how she relates to Mercurial Jyeshta but also the snake yonis in Taurus. Again, research more by yourself if you want to know more.
...
This is it. Turned out longer but I can't help myself when I want to explain😭 I hope this is also nice to read and beautiful to you and not just a collection of facts and analysis.
Please leave a feedback after reading💕

The Philosophy of Good and Bad Faith
The philosophy of good faith and bad faith primarily explores concepts related to authenticity, self-deception, and the nature of human existence, especially within the framework of existentialism. These ideas are most famously articulated by Jean-Paul Sartre, a leading figure in existentialist philosophy. The notions of good faith (bonne foi) and bad faith (mauvaise foi) deal with how individuals confront their freedom, responsibilities, and the choices they make in defining their existence.
Key Themes in the Philosophy of Good Faith and Bad Faith:
Existentialism and Human Freedom:
Freedom and Responsibility: Existentialist philosophy, particularly as developed by Sartre, emphasizes that human beings are radically free. This freedom is not just the ability to make choices but a fundamental condition of human existence. However, with this freedom comes the burden of responsibility for one’s actions and the meaning one creates in life.
Existence Precedes Essence: Sartre’s famous dictum, "existence precedes essence," suggests that humans are not born with a predetermined nature or purpose. Instead, individuals must create their own essence through their actions and choices. This process is central to the ideas of good faith and bad faith.
Bad Faith (Mauvaise Foi):
Self-Deception: Bad faith involves deceiving oneself to avoid the discomfort of facing one’s freedom and the responsibility that comes with it. It is a form of self-deception where individuals lie to themselves about the nature of their choices or circumstances to escape the anxiety associated with their freedom.
Examples of Bad Faith: Sartre provides examples of bad faith, such as a waiter who over-identifies with his role, acting as if he is merely a waiter and nothing more, or a person who claims they had no choice but to act in a certain way, thereby denying their freedom. In both cases, the individual denies their full humanity by reducing themselves to fixed roles or circumstances.
Denial of Freedom: In bad faith, individuals deny their freedom by attributing their actions to external forces, such as societal roles, expectations, or determinism. They avoid acknowledging that they always have a choice, even in the most constrained situations.
Good Faith (Bonne Foi):
Authenticity: In contrast to bad faith, good faith involves living authentically, fully acknowledging and embracing one’s freedom and the responsibility that comes with it. A person in good faith recognizes that they are the source of their actions and the creator of their own values and meaning.
Embracing Responsibility: Living in good faith requires accepting the anxiety and uncertainty that come with freedom. It involves making choices based on genuine reflection and accepting the consequences of those choices without resorting to excuses or self-deception.
Authentic Existence: Good faith aligns with the existentialist ideal of living an authentic life. This means being true to oneself, making decisions based on one’s own values rather than conforming to external pressures or societal norms.
The Role of Others:
The Look (Le Regard): Sartre also explores how the presence of others affects our experience of good faith and bad faith. Through the concept of "the look," Sartre describes how being seen by others can lead to a sense of objectification, where one becomes aware of oneself as an object in another’s perception. This can lead to bad faith if one starts to see oneself solely through the eyes of others, denying one’s own freedom and subjectivity.
Interpersonal Relationships: Relationships with others are often a battleground for authenticity. In good faith, individuals engage with others without trying to dominate or submit, recognizing both their own and the other’s freedom. In bad faith, relationships are marked by attempts to control or escape the freedom of the self and the other.
Anxiety (Angoisse) and Bad Faith:
Existential Anxiety: The recognition of one’s absolute freedom and the weight of responsibility can lead to existential anxiety. This anxiety arises from the realization that there is no predetermined path or external authority to guide one’s choices—each individual must create their own meaning.
Avoidance of Anxiety: Bad faith often serves as a coping mechanism to avoid this anxiety. By convincing oneself that they are bound by external factors, individuals can temporarily escape the daunting reality of their freedom. However, this comes at the cost of living inauthentically.
Ethical Implications:
Ethics of Authenticity: The philosophy of good faith and bad faith has significant ethical implications. It suggests that living ethically involves being true to oneself, acknowledging one’s freedom, and taking responsibility for one’s actions. This form of authenticity is seen as a moral ideal in existentialist thought.
Critique of Social Roles: Sartre’s critique of bad faith extends to societal roles and norms, which can be sources of inauthenticity. He argues that when people blindly conform to societal expectations, they deny their freedom and fall into bad faith. Ethical living requires questioning these roles and choosing one’s path consciously.
Challenges and Criticisms:
Ambiguity of Authenticity: One challenge in the philosophy of good faith is defining what it means to live authentically. Since existentialism emphasizes individual freedom, there is no universal standard for authenticity, which can make the concept seem vague or subjective.
Relativism: Critics argue that the emphasis on personal freedom and authenticity can lead to moral relativism, where any choice is justified as long as it is made authentically. However, existentialists like Sartre contend that authenticity requires more than just arbitrary choice—it demands a deep engagement with one’s freedom and responsibility.
The philosophy of good faith and bad faith provides a powerful framework for understanding human freedom, responsibility, and the quest for an authentic life. It challenges individuals to confront their freedom honestly, without resorting to self-deception or excuses, and to live in a way that is true to their own values and potential. By exploring the dynamics of self-deception and authenticity, this philosophy offers profound insights into the nature of human existence and the ethical challenges that come with it.

Mother Nature in its majestic resilience, patience, fragility, beauty is perpetually inspirational. Diptyque masters five natural elements and gift them with the lost smelling heritage. Wondrous and wild, this olfactory journey is a borderless imagination blast, a declaration of love and respect entrusted to the accords of the new ‘Les Essences de Diptyque’ collection.
.

Day 2 : Change the World / I Hear You
L'Essence de la Folie (or, erratum, whatever spirit is in there) belongs to @corneille-but-not-the-author
_____
“Hey there! Been a while, hasn't it, kid? Hey, don’t look so startled. I’ve always been there, just kept quiet. But it's boring here in your flute.”
“Then why are you staying inside it?”
“Because you’re funny. It's not every millenia I get to see someone defy my plans! Your little stunt with that dead revolutionary? Hardly saw that coming. My compliments, really!”
“I’m not proud of it. You know that.”
“Well, you should at least be grateful to yourself! I would have possessed you if it weren’t for that.”
“You can't do it anymore?”
“Oh, I could. But it would be such a waste! And you've gotten way stronger now. Well, you're still unstable, but that's just in your nature. And in mine.”
“What are you, exactly?”
“Not gonna tell youuuu~”
“Okay.”
“Hey! You could at least try and insist a little!”
“I don't need to know what you are. Just what you do. And I've seen what you do.”
“Do you hate me, Hanko?”
“No. Not really.”
“Heh, not surprised. Couldn’t even hate your own parents even after all they did to you. Or your sister. Or the man who betrayed you. What was it that the inquisitor said? “You love even your ennemies?” Hell, the only person I've ever seen you hate is yourself, and even that is debatable.”
“I still do. Sometimes.”
“Because you didn’t carry on their last wills? It's not like you ever could. Make the Revolution live on? What a joke! You’re not a Revolutionary. Never have been.”
“You're right.”
“Ugh, do you ever resist? Do you even have opinions of your own?”
“I do.”
“Ha, right! You did ask that guy to join his troop. I still remember the look on his face. And now you’re all happily going around with your little plays.”
“You make it sound like a bad thing.”
“Well, I'm kinda disappointed. Didn’t you want justice? Didn’t you want revenge? Didn't you want to carry on Bazyli's ideals and change that fucked-up world?”
“That's what I'm doing.”
“By fooling around on stage? Hanko, come on.”
“I’m serious. Maybe we can't change the world at its roots, but we can change how people see it.
“How very noble of you.”
“Provoking me won't work.”
“Sure, whatever floats your boat. Back to the point, is that why you're doing this whole theater thing? To change the world?”
“Well… If I’m honest, I just want to be with the people I love.”
“So you’re a hypocrite.”
“No. They made me think maybe the world was worth saving. Each time someone stays with the people they love, they see the world as worth saving. Isn’t that the first step needed to change it?”
“... I don’t know if the world changed, but you sure as hell did. Went from a hopeless, frightened little thing to a sappy idiot.”
“Don’t be like that. You had people like that too, didn’t you? A long time ago.”
“Pfffft! Unlike you lot, I don’t need anyone, except maybe a vessel.”
“Don’t lie. I saw your memories. The cell.”
“......”
“Weren’t they your friends?”
“......”
“What was his name? The Angel?”
“.... I don’t remember.”
“Really? I'm sorry.”
“Are you pitying me? Wow, you really are an idiot.”
“It’s terrifying to forget.”
“It's worse to remember.”
“I don't agree. Not anymore.”
“In case you weren’t aware, I don’t give much credit to your opinion.”
“You’re the one who asked me if I had any… Even now, there aren’t many people who did.”
“Doesn’t mean I care ‘bout your answer.”
“Hey… Did they change the world?”
“Who?”
“Well, them. The Angel, the Demons, the Beast, the Giant and the Abomination. Did they make a difference?”
“.....”
“Hello?”
“......”
“I thought I was the mute one here.”
“They did.”
“Then that's good. I hope they're happy, wherever they are.”
“Are you happy, kid?”
“Not always. But I'm loved even when I'm not.”
“Sentimental, sappy, cheesy idiot.”
“Maybe. But you’re the one sticking around the sentimental, sappy, cheesy idiot. So who’s the stupidest?”
“Ha, ha. Careful, I might change my mind, you could still make a good vessel~”
“And you still don’t scare me.”
“... Hey, Hanko.”
“What?”
“Keep going your way.”
“... What are you plotting?”
“Nothing. You’re interesting, is all.”
