I wasn't the type of person who liked to show love through flowers, dates, or kisses.
Instead, I'll open your tightly shut jar, brew you coffee, and cook you breakfast.
I hope that's enough.

the most passionate i've ever seen peat wasuthorn chaijindar was when a fan asked him for thoughts on food in beijing and (after, quite impressively, spending most of the live actively speaking in other languages to engage with his international audience) boy literally went, ok i'm going to have to answer this in thai otherwise i won't be able to explain my thoughts in sufficient detail. xD

Is it just me or does anyone else get the irrational urge to... learn every F1 driver's native language even if I would probably never use it irl😭😂

Because idioms are something of a recurring topic on this blog, I want to take this opportunity to mention that when I was much, much younger and still learning English, I thought being part of the "mile high club" meant you were in heaven/dearly departed. Does anyone else have any similar horror stories of mixing up idioms? It was really funny for me to learn what some common idioms in the US were.

language acquisition goals in this lifetime~
languages i already know:
odia (my mother tongue - but i can only speak in it)
hindi (no longer study in school but i can speak, write, etc BUT i am not very good)
english (probably my best language though it's my third lol)
languages i want to learn (in order of learning):
french (it's been a few months of learning but i can't put in much time because i'm a full time student)
spanish
isl (indian sign language)
italian
asl (american sign language)
german
bsl (british sign language)
greek
hindi (i want to re-learn to expertise, it'll be easy since i already know the basics and much more)
odia (though i'm excellent at speaking i also want to learn to read & write since it is my family's language)
japanese (not sure if i actually will, if when the time comes i'll see)
old english
ancient greek (it'll be easier since i would've already learnt greek by this time)
latin (yes i'm aware that this and the two before aren't spoken anymore but i still want to learn them very much)

I was reading the dghda show bible to research something and in Dirk's character description there was this sentence:
"The English accent, though real, isn't the foreign lilt he was born with."
And I'm like huh? Isn't this contradictory? Does it mean that his original accent is English, but not the one he speaks now? Or that his mother tongue is a whole another language but his British accent is also authentic because he lived there? Someone help me out.

I love love love that the ccs will be forced to use the translator in order to communicate with the new ccs joining qsmp because that’s what it’s there for!!!!! it’s a translator!!! use it to translate, even if both of you are able to speak the same language!
I don’t see enough people use the translator, especially when the ccs are both able to speak (usually) english, and it’s still great that they can speak easier if they speak the same language, but the language barrier is one of the causes for the creation of the qsmp! Let the language barrier be a barrier in the first place, and let the translator do the work it was meant to do!
Let people who physically can’t speak the same language interact! It’s part of what makes qsmp qsmp, and even though it has impacted hugely just from adding people who generally create content and talk in different languages, I do think it somewhat lacks in the people speaking different languages category, because while that is true, it is also somewhat untrue in that all of the ccs can speak one of the same language (usually english), even if they’re not a natural at it!
Now, that’s not a bad thing at all! But, it does blur the speaking different languages problem that was meant to occur in qsmp. They speak different languages! Let them speak whatever language they want and let the translator do the work! Again, that is what it is there for! It is a translator! (I’m looking at you twitter)
And even if it takes a million repeats of the same sentence for someone to finally get what another person is trying to say, a hundred fuck-ups of the translation or a thousand language barrier/cultural miscommunications, again, qsmp was made for this to happen! It was made so people who come from different backgrounds and are usually unable to interact because of cultural/language barriers can interact, whether it start out negative or positive!
And I trust them (the ccs and fans) to communicate if controversy/confusion happens culturally and language-wise, and (hopefully) for the fans to not turn anything minor** into a huge drama, so I am extremely excited to see the ccs be forced into using the translator!

Screaming crying throwing up because I can never read most of the world’s literature in its original language and can only glimpse at its true form through desperate translations that can never mount to its raw beauty

What are your opinions on book translations? I feel like some text, when translated, lose some meaning and nuance of the original language. On the other hand, it's a great resource so that more people can read the book.
