what if there was a version of the reincarnation au where he doesnt get such clear memories. he just gets vibes from his past life. he has no clue why cynthia and professor rowan make him feel a bit uncomfortable. he wants to go to unova, but he has no clue why. he cried after the 4th gym and when passing by the subway building. he meets this kid along the way and just feels an instant connection, now this 11 year old has little 7 year old companion. his parents are sure that its some leakage from his past life, which only occurs in certain scenarios. its why theyre so happy to let him go on his journey, even if they stay close behind to keep an eye on him.

oh, but speaking of Nobori not getting his memories back...

Nobori's parents tell him that when he feels things he doesn't understand the source of, that's his past life bubbling up from inside of him. It's a good thing! But it's okay if it's confusing or even scary sometimes. They encourage him to go to Unova after he completes his journey in Sinnoh, and he wonders why he has such an easy time learning the language. It's no Sinnoh, but he starts to love the region as he travels through it, clearing through the first three gyms with ease.

Then he gets to the fourth gym, and when he sees the gym leader, he just... starts crying. He eventually manages to stop- the gym leader is very nice to him, and he thinks that makes perfect sense. Of course she's nice. It fits her just the way her name being Elesa fits her, the way being the leader of an electric type gym fits her. He apologizes and says he doesn't know why he started crying, and she softly asks him if he still wants to battle- which of course he does. It's funny... somehow her Pokemon and strategies seem familiar to him.

He passes Gear Station, and feels a strong pull to go in, but he shakes it off- he wants to make progress before it gets dark. Something about this city makes him feel very strange, and he wants to put the weird incident at Elesa's gym behind him. Except... when he finally gets to the eighth gym, the same thing happens again. This time he's able to brace himself against the tears, but the gym leader- a large man named Drayden who he can somehow tell is kind anyways- can tell and waits for him to collect himself before they continue.

It happens again when he faces the Champion, except this time... he just feels proud? Which is weird, because he just beat her. He also can't shake the feeling that he should be taller than her, or that he should be the older one.

And then... then he goes back to Nimbasa City. He feels like he has to. He goes to Gear Station, and ends up on the Doubles Line. Which is weird, because he's always preferred Single Battles. He gets all the way to the Subway Boss, and he's really excited- this is actually so much fun! And then he steps through the door and...

...oh. he's crying again. Wow this is happening a lot. This is so embarrassing. He's not a crybaby! The Subway Boss is even staring at him, and honestly, he just kind of wants to sink into a hole now. But the man just smiles- a more natural one than before, he can somehow tell- and guides him to a seat so he can work through them. Sitting next to him on the subway feels... nice. It feels right. It just makes him cry more.

They do get their battle in the end. He loses, which is a first, but somehow he's not that upset about it. Emmet promises he won't tell anyone he cried. He promises he'll come back and that also he won't cry next time. The train returns to Gear Station, and he leaves the car.

He doesn't see Subway Boss Emmet cry once he leaves. Because he's finally found his brother after all these years, and he's so very happy he's been given another chance... and so very sad he doesn't remember him.

cool time to wax poetic about an oc i dont speak much on: em

so emmet johnson is a 22 y/o college student working at his local 24 hour diner. he was born and raised in this small town in west virginia where he lives now. he’s an only child and now really lives on his own. he doesn’t mind it too much but shit gets lonely when you’re kinda just on your own. he does have his best friend trish who also works at the diner. she moved from virginia years ago to just chill and spend her days painting (when she isnt working) and they bonded over similar interests and dying during a graveyard shift. he also has his boyfriend ari. he’s nb and prefers he/him prounouns but also goes by they/them. he has an affinity for yellow and sunflowers and tries to be a positive light to not only those around him but himself. while life is real and things suck he still likes to have a positive outlook on things. he enjoys sunny days and baking and really doesnt mind living a small town life.

oh !!! he’s an english major and does his classes online. he enjoys just spending time around people as he works. often he’ll just chill out at trish’s place as she paints so he can get work done, surrounded by all of his textbooks. or he’ll have ari over as he works (they only sometimes get distracted but they both also just enjoy silently spending time around people). ari would describe him as honey. something sweet and warm that goos up your fingers and catches on the corners of your mouth. it sticks to your ribs in just the right ways and makes bitter tea worth drinking.

he’s just calm and warm and caring and trying so hard to do his best. and he doesnt quite know where he’s going in his life but he knows he wants trish and ari to be in it and he wants to find his way with them. he wants to stay light hearted and pick flowers and laugh freely and love deeply and not worry (even if he does spend many nights lying awake in bed, stomach heavy with worry threatening to claw up his throat)
