#LEIGH GAVE US A BLESSING

hate to put a downer in the tag but is anyone else majorly disappointed in s&b season 2? it feels like the show was rushing to get to all the "important bits" without giving them the weight and buildup they deserved. they front-loaded the entire plot of Crooked Kingdom and got to the ending of Siege and Storm in, like, episode 2. And that ending... holy shit, that sucked.

No white-hair-Alina, no orphanage happy ending for her and Mal, no mention of Alina's full-ass cult. Does no one remember the girl with suns tattooed on her face??? I do. she was cool. And what the fuck is up with David dying in the assault on the Fold? He wasn't supposed to die until Rule of Wolves, it makes no sense why they pushed his death to this season. They're clearly expecting to get a season 3, based on the ending with the Crows (which is, inexplicably, the hook of the book that came before the one they adapted for this season????) so why would they not expect to play David's death out the way it happened in the book? And, again, why the fuck did they front-load the plot of Crooked Kingdom? Why is Kaz's most famous scene just kind of tossed in the middle of the season with no actual narrative buildup? Why does the show feel like Matthias, of all people, needs to have beef with Pekka Rollins??? Those two characters have exactly nothing to do with each other--iirc, they don't even interact in the books. It feels like the writing team just sat around a table and went "ooh what if" until they wrote enough words to fill in a script. I can't tell if Leigh Bardugo gave all of this her blessing, or if she just looked away too long and they went rogue on her.

(side-note, killing the king and Vasily at the same time wasn't a great choice. the scene in the book where Nikolai looks his not father in the eye and tells him to get out, or he'll be charged for his crimes against Genya is such a good moment of catharsis for her character, and the queen isn't in enough of the show for her little replacement scene to fill that gap.)

And I know I've mentioned this before, but the Darkling's death in the show is robbed of its weight by the way the show treats the name Aleksander. It's tossed around so flippantly that Alina's final extension of respect for him--calling him by the name he had when he was innocent--feels like she's just... saying goodbye. She's using the name he's had this whole time, rather than specifically calling him Aleksander as a show of respect for the dead. The Darkling is supposed to be a tragic character--not likeable by any standard, he's thoroughly and truly the villain of the Grisha Trilogy, but you're supposed to understand that at one point, he was innocent. At one point, he could have done something good. His death is a reminder of that, in the books. In the show, all you really feel is relief that you don't have to listen to his manipulative dialogue anymore.

Honestly, the season doesn't suck. It's not bad (I have some extra gripes about the sound design but that's definitely a budget issue and not really anyone's fault), it's just disappointing. There were some bits I really did like, too!! Every scene with Genya in it was absolutely incredible, the show did her so well. The humour in this season was consistently good. Show-Wylan lives up to his book counterpart very well. And the subplot with the saint in Shu Han was really well-done, even if I do wish the show had kept the original catalyst for Jesper using his Grisha powers. I know the show can do the books justice (the two Nina and Matthias scenes in season 1 that are literally word-for-word accurate come to mind as examples), and I do want there to be a season 3 so I can find out where they're going with all this. I was just expecting better. I'm sure people who haven't read the books, or are more forgiving of "high-budget fan fiction" style adaptations will really enjoy it, and that's not bad by any means.

Idk. I was just hoping for something the show didn't want to give, I guess.

Even from a young age Kara knew that she didn’t quite fit in with the rest of her kind. While her siblings were all ritualistically practicing their magic alongside the coven from the time they could walk, Kara was more fascinated with finger paints and coloring. Instead of following in her parent’s footsteps and using her magic for the betterment of the coven she preferred to prank her siblings or get things to go her way with a bit of persuasion. She was made of pent up energy, a constant moving target that couldn’t keep all of her things straight or show up on time, while everyone else in her coven were calm, collected, and punctual.

Her parents always stressed to her that she needed to get back in line, to join the rest of the coven and hone her witchcraft. She was blessed with powers other humans didn’t have, she should use them to benefit the family, to make an impression, to make something of herself. Her coven always had a ‘too good for you’ type of attitude towards the outside world; they gave off an air of ‘better than’. Better than mere humans, better than the blood suckers, better than the silly dogs. Better than the other covens, even, because they stood united and strong. They were not separate entities, but one whole. They didn’t support creativity, didn’t support being your own person, and it was stifling to Kara. She simply wasn’t one of them.

She decided she wanted to make a name for herself - be it helping people with the powers she been blessed with or finding another outlet for her constant pent up energy. She enrolled in a criminal justice program on a whim - and found a new way to flex her creativity and make use of her skills to not only benefit herself, but maybe even her entire community. Community being - not just the stuck up family that wanted her to fit in their perfect little box. It was upon her siblings’ encouragement that she broke free from her family, and her coven, and started searching for a new beginning. They could tell that Kara was a puzzle piece that just didn’t fit quite the way everyone around her wanted her to.

She finished her schooling, earned her degree in criminal justice, and started training as a detective. While the work was tough and seemed to be never ending, it proved to be an outlet for Kara’s high energy personality and determination. But there was a constant feeling of something always missing, like a tickle in the back of the mind. It wasn’t so much that she missed her coven, per say; just more that connection with people. People like her. She had plenty of friends from the police department, from school, from the ‘real world’ so to speak. But they didn’t quite fill that void she’d made when she left her family behind.

She caught wind of Raven’s Peak and it’s status as ‘supernatural safe haven’ and followed the tip right to its front door, thinking maybe finding her place among people like herself might make the difference. She met a whole slew of different supernatural beings - vampires, werewolves, and witches alike; and felt more welcomed among her kind than she ever had growing up. With some hesitance she joined a coven that at least seemed far more relaxed than her family’s, and for a while she truly felt that she belonged and was whole again.

For years she lived in relative peace alongside vampires and werewolves and she had no problem with them as species in general - in fact, her friend and partner was a werewolf himself. She knew better to be out at night on a full moon, particularly on her own trekking through the woods. But there had been a tip at the station that needed tending to and her partner was…otherwise occupied, so it was up to her to check it out.

Her memories of that night are foggy at best, but the most distinct fragments that still haunt her worst nightmares are those bright eyes and the agony of teeth sinking into flesh. A part of her wanted to believe it would all be okay, that everything would just go back to normal and that it was just some crazy fever dream as she fell ill for a few days. When she came back to herself what felt like a handful of days later with the bite seemingly magically healed, she was hopeful. But it was hard to ignore the lack of magic that used to thrum through her system, instead replaced with louder sounds and brighter lights and heavier smells. Even though a part of her recognized what all of this meant, it wasn’t until a couple weeks later - the next full moon just around the corner, that she really let it sink in. She couldn’t do this on her own. She was scared…and she needed help. So she turned to the people she had met along the way, the ones who would know how to manage what she was going through and more.

Since that day, Kara has worked through the transition into life as a werewolf and, frankly, is mostly thankful for it. It feels freeing, in a way; like now more than ever she’s finally the person she was meant to be.

Meet Aunty Pez

She would be the best aunty in the world, ugh🥺 Also I’m so sorry I haven’t been active, school has been keeping me busy, but hopefully it’ll ease up soon! Sending all my love to all of you💞

At 3:14am, on an early Monday morning, the bundle of joy that you and Tom have been waiting nine months for has finally arrived. After hours of enduring pain and labor, Amelia May Holland was born. Weighing at 7.5 lbs, she had the same bright chocolate colored eyes as her father, gorgeous brown hair, a mix of your and Tom’s nose, and thankfully she inherited your lips. She was a precious little thing, always cradled in the arms of either of her parents, since they both couldn’t believe she was finally in the real world with them.

The sun casted soft rays of light into the hospital room you and your little family occupied. The warm light added to the peaceful atmosphere you were all currently in. You were sat against the hospital bed, cradling Amelia in your arms, while you and Tom stared at her in fascination. You lean your head against Tom’s shoulder, eyes never leaving your baby girl, who’s nose momentarily scrunched up.

Softly chuckling, you glance at Tom, “Not even a day old and she’s already doing a habit of yours.” The gentle smile grows even wider on Tom’s lips, a sense of pride rushing through his veins.

“Well she’s definitely her father’s daughter.” He hums, his arm around your shoulder pulls you flush against his chest. Tom hides his face in the crook of your neck, placing feather light kisses onto your skin trailing down to your shoulder, where he rests his chin.

“I can’t believe we made her. Isn’t she the most gorgeous baby in the world?” He speaks in a hushed voice, cautious of startling his newborn daughter awake. He gazes at Amelia with a fond expression on his face, large fingers gingerly reaching out to softly stroke the back of his baby’s hand. She’s only been here a few hours and she’s already wrapped him around her dainty little fingers. He would go to extreme measures to do anything for her and to make sure she lived the best life she can. She was to be treated like a princess in his eyes; because she was his princess and you’ve been bumped up to be his queen.

“She’s all we’ve ever wanted.” You turn to face Tom over your shoulder. The whole morning, ever since you gave birth, the two of you spent most of the time admiring Amelia and would burst into tears at how proud you were of each other. Not only had you both just made the most precious baby in the world, but this was a new chapter in your lives. A new experience of life with a stronger bond, full of love, and years of memories that’ll be looked back on in the future.

Tom shifts his gaze to you, the look in his eyes changing to adoration. He tenderly kisses your lips, repeating the actions a few more times before speaking. “Thank you so much for this. Thank you for being an amazing wife and giving me a family. I love you so, so, so, so, much. You have no idea.” He brushes his nose against yours, shutting his eyes, to savor the meaningful moment.

“I wouldn’t be doing this with anyone else but you. You’re gonna be such an amazing dad.” You beam at him. Tom softly chuckles, leaning his forehead against your temple, “God, I hope.”

“You will, you’ll be the best one in her eyes. I already know it.” You reassure him, pecking the corner of his mouth. You turn your attention back to Amelia, who was still sleeping peacefully in your arms.

“So when should we tell everyone?” Tom asks, resting his chin on your shoulder again. You lean the back of your head against his shoulder, making yourself comfortable in his arms.

“I think we should tell our family and friends first. I’m not ready to share her to the public yet, I want her to only be ours for now.” You quietly explain. You feel Tom smile against your skin.

“Of course, darling. Whatever you’re most comfortable with, that’s what we’ll go with.”

You smiled at your screen before turning it off and placing it onto the table beside your bed. Tom was pacing the room, cradling Amelia against his chest. He was gently rocking her back and forth, alternating from shushing her to humming some sort of tune underneath his breath. You sat back and admired the curly headed boy that’s claimed your heart. Not only was he the love of your life but he was also the father of your child. Sure you guys were young, both in your late 20s, but the daddy role definitely fit Tom perfectly.

Tom must’ve felt your stare because he turned around and sent you a tired smile. He walked towards your bed and motioned for you to lay down. Using one had to cradle Amelia, he used the other to help you get comfy in the hospital bed. Still with one hand, he fixed your hair on the pillow so that it was away from your face. His large calloused hand cradled your jaw, “Get some sleep, darling. I know how tired you are.”

You pouted at him, “But what about Amelia?” He shook his head, his thumb stroking your cheek, “Don’t worry about it, I’ll try and get her to sleep. You just close your pretty eyes and get some rest in.”

“What if she’s hungry?”

“If she doesn’t fall asleep, then I’ll wake you up. Just please get some sleep, love. You haven’t taken a proper nap since this morning and I know you’re already close to knocking out.” He reasoned with pleading eyes. You sigh finally giving in, lazily nodding in response. Tom beams at you and leans down to place a tender kiss onto your lips.

“I love you both.” You mumble against his lips. He pecks your lips once more, “And we love you too, mummy.” The moment you closed your eyes, you were out like a light.

You managed to take a nap for about half an hour until you felt a few pats on your shoulder. You were immediately awake, turning your head to look for Amelia. You looked at the hospital bassinet, where you could see her sleeping peacefully.

“What’s wrong?” You ask Tom. He was sat beside your bed with his phone held in his hand watching something.

“I’m so sorry for waking you, but you should see this.” He apologized with a pitiful smile. He scoots closer to the bed so you can look at the screen. Your brows furrow together in question as you stare at Tom; it was the girls’ interview.

“Just watch.”

“Hello ladies! Thank you for joining me today!” The interviewer started. A round of “hellos” and waves were seen on the recorded Zoom session.

“Thank you for having us!” Leigh-Anne said.

“Yeah, it’s always a pleasure to be on your show, Zach.” Jade gushed. Zach made a show of flattery making them all laugh.

“I mean I guess I should start by asking how are all of you?”

Jesy was the first to answer, “I’d say we’re all doing pretty good, aren’t we girls? You know—just trying to get by especially with all that’s going on in the world.”

Perrie agreed, “Yeah, we’re lucky enough to be healthy and have the privilege to work. So I’d say we’re very blessed and making the best out of situation.”

“That’s great for you girls. AND speaking of making the best of the situation, thank you for giving us entertainment! I’ve been watching The Search and I’m absolutely obsessed.” Zach began, complimenting the show. He continued, “Although I did notice, that there’s only four of you at the moment, and in the show. How is it like to not have (y/n) around?”

Jesy pouted, the other girls having familiar reactions at the lack of your presence.

“As much as we miss her, it’s best for her and the baby to stay home and away from the public. When it comes to your career or family; family comes first, so it was totally understandable.” Jesy explained.

Jade chirped in, “Well, she’s not completely missing out. She’s had a few virtual appearances on the show and we’ve all been in contact, we always know what she’s up to.”

“How’s she doing? With the baby preparations and all?” Zach asked the girls. Their faces immediately brightened with joy, especially Perrie how squealed and clapped her hands in delight.

“Oh she’s doing wonderful, we were just texting her! She’s officially on maternity leave!” Perrie cheered. On the screen, Jesy eyed Perrie warily.

“Officially on maternity leave?”

Perrie smiled widely, “Yes, she is! She sent us a photo of the baby in our group chat and my goodness! Their baby is so cute, I just want to pinch her little cheeks!”

The three other girls’ eyes widened at the things coming out of Perrie’s mouth too stunned to say anything.

Zach squinted at Perrie, “Wait she’s already had the baby?”

“PERRIE!”

“Yeah, today actually.” The blonde answered proudly.

“PERRIE SHUT UP!”

“STOP TALKING!”

Perrie stopped, looking at the three girls offendedly, “What?”

“Oh my god, she did not.” Leigh-Anne facepalmed herself. Jade’s jaw was slack and Jesy’s eyes were wide with horror.

“Babe, do you know what you just did?” Jesy questioned Perrie, fingers pinching the bridge of her nose in stress.

You paused the video, taking in what just happened.

Tom eyed you carefully, “Your phone’s been blowing up consistently. Pez even called me to apologize, she feels really bad (y/n).”

You frowned knowing that Perrie was most likely upset at herself. You’ve been friends with Perrie for years now. It was common knowledge amongst you and the girls that if something big and secretive were to happen, you were to never tell Perrie. Not that you all wanted to leave her out on propose, she just didn’t know how to keep her mouth shut. When Perrie found things that made her happy or excited, she didn’t know how to contain her happiness. So it wasn’t completely a surprise to learn she’s told the world you and Tom were finally parents.

Tom noticed that you were still quiet, “Are you mad, darling?”

You shook your head, “No—no, I’m not mad at her. I know Perrie can get too excited sometimes.”

“So you’re okay with this?” Tom asked you, knowing that just an hour ago you said you wanted to keep Amelia away from the public. His hand reaches for yours, grasping it.

You tilted your head at the ceiling, “Yeah, I guess I am? I mean it’s not like she said Amelia’s name or anything. All she told them was that I gave birth already.” You paused and turned to look at Tom.

“Plus, I think she’s saved us the trouble of figuring out how to tell the world about Amelia.” You send him a smile. He reciprocates the action and brings your hand up to his lips, pressing a kiss to the back of it. “We don’t have to tell them anything more. All they have to know is that you’ve given birth and our little princess is healthy. Also that we’re very happy. The rest of the details will only be for us. For now.”

“For now.” You confirmed squeezing his hand. You glanced at your phone and motioned for Tom to give it to you. Scrolling through your contacts you clicked on Perrie’s name, “I guess we should call her and thank her.”

You clicked on the FaceTime icon and not even a second later, Perrie immediately answered the call.

“I am so sorry.” She apologized, hand covering her face. You chuckle at her and shake your head, “We’re actually calling you to thank you Pez.”

Her face contorts into confusion, “What do you mean thank me? I just exposed the two of you during a live interview.”

Tom poked his head into frame, “Well one, you’ve announced that Amelia’s here already, so that’s one thing off our list. And two, you just saved me months worth of relief during interviews. Now that everyone knows we have a baby, I don’t need to be scared of accidentally slipping it out when I have to do promos!”

The blonde looked between both you and Tom I’m disbelief, “Are you kidding me? If I knew you two would’ve responded this way I wouldn’t have been spending the last hour beating myself up for it.”

You laughed smiling at her. Perrie beamed at the both of you, “For just delivering a baby, you look gorgeous hun. You’re glowing.”

“Aw thank you, lovey.” You look at Amelia from the corner of your eye. “Do you wanna see her?” Perrie eagerly nods at the camera. Tom takes the camera and rounds your bed to the bassinet. Aiming the camera above Amelia he said, “Amelia, meet Aunty Pez.”

It’s always so funny to observe YA book trends, cus it's all the product of social media hype, marketing, and the publishing world’s scheming that decides what we read. Content is often disseminated based on marketability and not necessarily quality (this is old news, but still).

Like back in 2005-2008 or so, we had the Twilight-Harry Potter dichotomy essentially ruling the scene, and thus these two series were responsible for why the Percy Jackson series, City of Bones and Vampire Academy, for instance, blew up so much, because these latter series all reiterated the themes that Twilight and Harry Potter (and their rivalry) promoted: secret worlds, beings, societies, and their institutions living among regular people in modern society. Then let’s go to 2011-2014 where the shit was dystopian fiction. It’s easier to illustrate what happened here in terms of trends: The Hunger Games popped off (rightly so) and thus Divergent, The Maze Runner, The Giver, Delirium, Shatter Me and The Selection were the trends now. Likewise, I wanna bet that Hush Hush and Fallen got hype in 2013-2014 cus of TMI and TID ending around that time. John Green had people reading all kinds of sappy, angsty teen lit in 2014 as well, I'm not even gonna expand on this. And finally, with the advent of Sarah J. Maas and Leigh Bardugo in 2015-now, it seems high fantasy is the trend (I also wanna say The Red Queen and the increased viewership of Game of Thrones plays a big part in this by the way). Because of Shadow and Bone, Throne of Glass, The Red Queen and such, it seems everyone and their mom been getting a book deal set in a high fantasy world, usually dealing with a monarchy/power institution vs the “common man”, and maybe someone has powers or some shit like that. Fairyloot itself is a testament to the success of this genre of YA.

But it gets even funnier when you look at how a certain book or book series pops off if it vaguely reminds readers of a previous blockbuster series thematically. When Shadow and Bone blew up, it seemed evident that The Crown’s Game would get attention (because Russia, lol). The Gilded Wolves has gotten traction and I’ll largely bet it’s cus of Six of Crows. I love The Cruel Prince with all my heart, but I’d be stupid to ignore the fact that this series got so much hype across social media because it was released in a time period where intimidating, sexy Fae are trending largely because of SJM. Heck, it’d be stupid to ignore that Fae are the “thing” right now with ToG, ACOMAF, TCP, and all the Fae business in The Dark Artifices and such. I’m not implying that any book lacks quality cus it got hype by the way, but I’m pointing out the way companies know that familiarity is a seller and won’t hesitate to play off it. Right now as we speak, From Blood and Ash is riding the coattails of ACOMAF.

But this even happens with tropes, not just genre!!! I do not care who the hell is mad but after Cassandra Clare made Will Herondale and popularized his Will-ness, if you gave me a dollar for every book boy with dark hair, blue eyes, a love for reading and endless snark then I’d be a rich woman. The “brooding vampire” was a whole ass personality that Edward Cullen popularized, bless his sweet heart. It seems the “progressive hottie” who insists on calling the MC his “queen and equal” is the thing right now: Rhys, Hawke, the shadow dude from The Shadows Between Us, even Cardan if you think about it. Love triangles were the big thing a decade ago, but now it seems that it’s assholes-to-lovers, as we see in From Blood and Ash, The Cruel Prince, ACOTAR, etc. Love tropes now are about power imbalances and the relationship between the hunter and the hunted - The Darkling was an excellent subversion of this trope.

I can think of so many more examples of the publishing world playing off trends man. To add, isn’t it just dandy that after the Shadowhunters Netflix series, we got Shadow and Bone, and now ACOTAR is getting a Hulu TV show? Also, it’s interesting the way “adult series” are getting more traction and I’d largely bet it’s cus of the success of Addie La Rue, Ninth House, Crescent City and whatever it is that Cassie has planned with her new fantasy book. Yes yes yes, I don’t need the business majors to tell me this is how the industry works because the publishing will apply the same marketing principles as any other entertainment industry blah blah blah cus capitalism and pop culture phenomena blah blah blah. It’s just amusing to see how in-your-face this industry operates and controls what content we consume and what we think is “good”.

Disclaimer: I do not think that tropes are bad at all (it’s almost impossible to write “tropeless” work). I do not think that trends are bad or that popular series are bad or shallow. I love, like, half of the books I’ve name-dropped here today.

You are Selene and I’ll die on this hill, Tay. I always say you’re a goddess and I’m never lying. Selene is the goddess of the moon, otherwise known as ‘the mother of vampires’. Yeah, that fits lol. She appears in the sky when and how she pleases. Chthonic in nature and origin, she is raw energy and passion. Selene is not just a Hellenistic goddess, she exists through every mythology because of how important she is. She was the sibling of Helios, the sun, and she balanced his fire. You’re like the glue of this group, you balance us. Selene is known to have cults to this day of followers, though it’s partially hidden. People were and are drawn to her. She merges with Artemis at times to become the goddess of the hunt as well but she will always first and foremost be the moon goddess.

I was going to give you Athena because she’s one of my highest revered goddesses and you deserve that title but I can’t bring myself to do it knowing that Calliope exists and that you are the embodiment of her. The muses are overlooked as goddesses— kind of how like you’re one of my favourite authors on this hellsite and are overlooked— and it’s a shame considering at one point in history they were called upon to bless every story and meal and event. They were the most powerful, the daughters of Zeus, revered. Calliope is the must of epic poetry— the wisest of all the muses. She was called upon by Zeus to govern disputes between other goddesses because her opinion and judgment was so clear. You are a wonderful writer, an amazing friend, and I would go to you for guidance before a lot of other people. Calliope is overlooked but I see you. You are poetry embodied, remember that.

Clotho. Leigh you are Clotho. In Greek mythology the notion fate is one of the most important things and at the helm of fate there are three sister goddesses— Clotho is the youngest of them. The metaphor used was of cloth— one would spin, one would measure, one would cut. Clotho spun the cloth— she was in charge of spinning the life of humans— every little detail decided by her to her will and precise detail. She was the one to decide which gods and mortals were to be saved and which were to die. Even the likes of the biggest gods and goddesses could not disarm her— she chose destiny, the other gods only enforced it. I like to think of you as her because I think you’ve touched all our stories in one way or another— your thoughts are always welcome and insightful. You’re a leader.

Eris. Without a doubt in my mind Al you would be Eris. She’s the goddess of chaos and discord. I think that gets taken badly sometimes— the word chaos has so many negative connotations and it shouldn’t. Chaos isn’t inherently bad— it’s wonderful and beautiful and without it where would the fun be? You bring the fun, Al. Eris doesn’t strive to hurt people but she’s not going to sit back and take it now is she? She is the true reason that Troy fell— not Helen. The gods refused to treat her with respect so she made Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite fight over an apple— a damn Apple! And she laughed as Troy fell because the fairest goddesses couldn’t share. And they call her bad. What a joke. Chaos is beautiful— remember that.

Dom you’re Nyx and nothing could sway me in this decision. I’ve been saving her in my back pocket because she’s special— I couldn’t just use her freely. Nyx is the goddess of night. Note— not darkness. That was her husband. Darkness and night are not the same— night is persistent, steadfast, reliable. With or without darkness, the night is inevitable. She’s a primordial goddess— she was there before the beginning and will be there long after the end. She’s older than Zeus— she’s the only goddess that he fears. She’s the reason he gave the chthonic deities respect— the older, earthier, passionate, destructive deities. Nyx isn’t a central figure but she’s present in every tale whether acknowledged or not. You’re always present, and I hope you know that I respect you immensely.

EXCITING CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR OUR LOYAL FOLLOWING: A SNEAK-PEAK INTO OUR ORIGINAL FANTASY SERIES!

Dearest Merlinians,

I believe we can all agree that this has been a tumultuous year for everyone. It’s almost surprising that King Arthur has not risen to come and rescue us from the madness! As Christmas prepares to step out from around the corner, it will mark the 8th anniversary of Merlin’s departure from the screen.

Despite the hardships of 2020, it was not without its blessings. We met @balencian, who recorded his excellent audiobooks of Merlin 6: Kingdom Come and gave us all a chance to revisit the world of Merlin. Meanwhile, @merlin6-sims​ continues her labor of love by animating every scene of the script with an impressive attention to detail. 

And we have not been idle ourselves! In April, we released a two-volume album entitled BREAD & CIRCUSES, (Volume 1: "Come One, Come All"; Volume 2: “Here There Be Monsters”), with elements of EDM, classical/baroque music, and cinematic soundtracks, and featuring 19 Indie pop songs that unfold a story of decadence, madness, and of hope triumphing over inhumanity. (Fun Fact: The entire album is inspired by our book series.)

We then took a hiatus from music to focus on some personal aspirations, but we did not stop creating new material that we will begin to share in 2021 once we get all our ducks in a row. :)

In the meantime, we resumed work on our original writing project. At long last, we are prepared to share a sneak-peak of our writing as a Christmas present from us to all of you! We know that it’s not the Merlin Season 7 you all desire, but if you loved Kingdom Come, this new fantasy world and these new characters will grab onto your heart in a way you never would’ve expected. After all, the origin of our inspiration in writing it was indeed BBC’s Merlin.

We have spoken with @balencian, the same gentleman who recorded the Merlin 6: Kingdom Come audiobooks, and he will soon record himself reading the first few chapters of our novel series (and just like the Merlin script, his audiobooks will have soundtracks hand-picked and edited by us!). Once he’s posted them, we will share them for your pleasure. We would love to hear your thoughts & feedback! While we still hope to be traditionally published, it is a competitive business, and it is always helpful to get a feel for one’s audience beforehand.

Netlfix, seriously, just go ahead and announce season 2 because we ALL want it. I NEED it so badly just, do it do it do it.

In all seriousness, as for as YA book adaptation, this is top notch if not the best adaptation I've seen. The cast was A+, nailing the characters so beautifully and bringing life to some that I really didn't fully appreciate in the books. Specifically Archie with Mal, credits to him and the writers (and Leigh) for really working to make him a stronger, fully developed character. It was so well done and I am really rooting for them more so than I was in the books.

Crow wise. Brilliant. Absolutely fucking brilliant. Kit, Freddy, Amita, Danielle, Calahan; literally the most perfect casting. Period. I was so incredibly nervous when the show was announced how casting would go for the crows. They're my favorites, ones that I really treasured and when I tell you just the cast photo I had a feeling this was going to go well. Well was an understatement. I was absolutely blown away by how well they nailed the Crows. The humor, the small gestures, the teasing and comments; absolutely perfect. I have only one complaint, the same as Kit: GIVE ME WYLAN!!!

Also,Jessie as Alina, round of applause as well. I didn't mind her character in the book, but in the show I felt more connected and really was cheering for her and I have to give that to Jessie. Like Archie, she did a great job bringing the character to life and making her enjoyable, more fully developed tbh. I don't even need to go into Ben because I despise the Darkling as much as I did in the books so I'd say he was fucking brilliant.

The fact their budget was limited, they somehow was able to create a world so beautiful so incredibly well done and oddly inviting. The costumes, the sets, even the Fold looked nearly inviting. It all seemed so well done, so well put together and as I imagined it for the most part. The display of Grisha power was not corny but subtle and well created, not overdone like some like to do. It was believable and so cool to see displayed on tv.

Honest to god this is, to me at least, by far the best YA book adaptation in a long, LONG time. This coming from a HP, Twilight, Series of Unfortunate Events fan. I've seen YA books fail so badly (Euragon, ugh the heartbreak of that disaster) or just, be so flat it hurts...looking at you Twilight. Some having a cast that just, despises the entire book and movie all together, others so well connected and done so brilliantly only for the story to be torn to bits in some parts that you're left wondering if you read the same book at times (HP, never forgive you for that final battle scene, wtf was even that??). But for real, this had the perfect cast, perfect sets & editing, amazing music, fantastic writing to piece it all together and overall was just...absolutely amazing. Definitely going to be something I rewatch over and over and over again till the next season.

Let's start with this picture. It gave me like 10 years more of life.

Can we pleaseeeee talk about Perrie and her bangs? I never thought I could get gayer, but she proved me wrong, and honestly, I'm all here for it. Just, please look at how beautiful she is.

Then there is Jade with this hairstyle, and I've never felt this blessed. Shee looks so beautiful and hot at the same time, I thought that was impossible. Thank God I was wrong.

Next we have Jesy. The love of my life, the only woman who has ever made me feel good about myself. She looks sooooo perfect. Honestly, look at her and tell me she isn't the most beautiful woman in the world.

And last but definitely not least, we have our motherfucking queen, Leigh-Anne Pinnock. Just look at how great she looks. She is beautiful, and hot, and pretty, and I lost all my knowledge in words, I have no idea how else to describe her. Help

And then, we have their clothes. Thank you God for granting us such perfection on this day.

Let's start with Leigh-Anne in this one. I love the top. She looks wonderful. The straps that go over her abs and her arm looks great, and her pants look amazing.

Jesy freaking Nelson over here serving looks. Her leotard looks so fucking good. I love it. I love the contrast the white lines make on the black outfit. Also, quick shout out to her nails, I love the color. And last but not least, her fishnets. Thank you whoever decided to put her in those.

Then we have Jade. Honestly, the first thing I noticed was the fishnets, excuse my gay ass. I swear, she looks amazing in those. I love her half pants (?) , and the, can it be called a harness?, the harness. Her sheer leotard was, amazing, for lack of better words, and I swear, her bra looks, oof.

Lastly, my blonde queen, Perrie Edwards. The jacket is amazing. I would wear the shit out of it. And she looks amazing in those pants. I love her entire outfit, but the fact that most part of the video she wears the jacket off shoulder, well, catch me lying on the couch (I'd say floor, but my back ain't that good)

Heroes characterisation analysis time again, with Seiros bcs i’m trash and I was wondering maybe Seiros’d reveal some stuff about the WoH

I pointed out in a different post, but I’ll forever regret not being able to have a dual audio. Someone on redshit pointed out how Inoue feels too soft and feminine (?) for Seiros, but for me, it’s the contrary. Leigh!Seiros sounds so monotone.

Anyways, back to the dialogue, since I’ve already talked about this, let’s talk about this monstruosity of a Lv 40 Support - remember, in heroes or modern!FEs, if it has an avatar, it must be worshipped “you are so special” “i was lonely before you” *war flashbacks of the Loki-Aversa Forging bonds*.

Also, while FEH can be surprisingly astute with characterisation sometimes, some other times it just fail hard (remember Arvis and his “Hellfire” when Fjalar is seen as a symbol of justice and something to be proud of? Or whatever the fuck were Saias’s lines.)

Funny how I posted “recently” something about Macuil and Indech who have interesting staggering blow’s lines, deriding humans, thinking they’re children or “insignificant creatures”.

Post Zanado she might have shared her bros’s views on humans. And yet it feels odd, because we know Seiros built the canal in Enbarr and apparently accomplished “miracles” so randoms wanted to follow her. Was she sneering at humans while helping them because she thought she had to help them like Sothis did? Or did she help them because it was something she genuinely wanted to do? Or because she was planning to build her army of “frail and ignorant creatures”? Still, this is something she used to believe but she revised her opinion.

Bleh - but point is, Seiros realised she was wrong, even in the canon FE16 gave us. Rhea is legit saddened to fight her loser’s descendant, whatever Willy was, even if he needed her help to create his Empire, he was not a “frail and ignorant creature, incapable of accomplishing anything without the guidance of the goddess” anymore. I won’t bank on every legacy golem being named after a human ally, but you’re not naming uh... guardians after creatures you don’t care at least a little about. if she was saved by a frail, ignorant creature unable to do anything without the goddess’s guidance, then what is she?

So if this is the canon FEH gives us “Seiros sneered at humans before meeting Summoner-chan and the heroes here” I’ll die by my own headcanon that Seiros used to think humans were nothing, then meeting the humans from Enbarr she started to grow fond of them and made that canal and then when she met Wilhelm and his pals (randoms creating her church ?) she grew fond of them as kind of equals.

Seiros wishes to fight for the world with someone who fights for the world as well. I don’t know what she means by “fight for the world”, is she talking about someone who has ambitions or it’s the traditionnal “I will fight for the sake of this world” stuff? Also, Seiros sees herself as a warrior. When she retakes this name in CF, it’s because she’s in her “warrior mode”, she’s not the leader of the church anymore.

In FE16 Rhea’s mom is just a gremlin chilling in Billy’s head, never giving a fuck about her even when she recovered her memories (bar the unseen scene where Rhea tells us she talked to her mom and immediately wonders if she should die). But maybe in the FeH verse Sothis can give some fucks about her children? Lol, who am I kidding.

While this sounds like usual player worship, again it shows Seiros’s willing to do “whatever it takes” sometimes. She’s a bit of an extremist, but became wiser with time.
