Day 11 - Kishu

Met up with a friend last weekend for an easy hike. Her girl, Sakura, is starting her heat so it was great practice for Kalfu to not lose his mind around a BIS.

He did phenomenal! Some pushiness to sniff/lick, but he redirected consistently and was able to focus on me or his surroundings which is huge for him. That single brain cell is capable of great feats when it reaches the corner of his brain amidst the aimless floating. Raven enjoyed sniffing and gallivanting on her long lead, but was pretty upset she couldn’t drink the still water the entire walk. She settled for the frost on leaves.

Afterwards, CJ took the pups to her mom’s to do laundry and I went with our friend to bathe Sakura. She was displeased, until the employee on the floor was excited to learn all about Kishu Ken and loving on her. Overall it was really nice getting to catch up with a friend and enjoy an outing where the dogs generally just do their own things.

Description: I receive this image Smile.jpg from Japan in message in my email and i'm now curse in fear of these pack of pooches. I need to rid of the curse by throwing the hot potatos in my audiences like a idiot by spread the word. I first ignore it for 3 days but now the picture has mutate and deform, depicting a much more disturbing and demonic form of Smile Dogs. Breed featured: Shiba inu (main front), Akita inu (Both Japanese and American), Kai ken, Shikoku inu, Hokkaido inu, Kishu inu, Ryukyu inu and Kawami inu.

Journal: The halloween art i had to delay due to technical difficulty and busy. Finally i have finished it.

What the inspiration? Isle of dogs is biggest inspiration that is based off. (Bit of spoiler alert) The room is in laboratory facility and the position of dogs is inspired from film's poster with a boy in bottom middle with multiple dogs surrounding. The art-style is manga influence of isle of dogs. Why Nihon ken indigenous breed family instead of any husky dog breeds? I just want to make Japanese version of Nihon ken with isle of dog based off. I came of the idea to diversified smile dog into different breeds version but the first one is Japanese Nihon kens. Why translation? Isle of dog does the translation text as well so it was brought in this art.

Kaito has been figured out! I struggled quite a bit between KID’s design and having to make Kaito similar-but-not-identical to Shinichi, I’m not gonna lie, but he’s here!

He’s a Kishu Ken x Beauceron mix (I see Chikage as French, so she’s a Beauceron) and has a subtle harlequin pattern :)

He’s similar enough to Shinichi that people might need a double take to realise it’s a different person, but he can put in the effort to close the gap and look like Shinichi when needed!

A winking Shiba inu in traditional Japanese Sumi-e.

It was hard to lineart, but the watercolor part was fun. Trying new art styles is pretty fun!

Fun Fact: I actually referenced an image of a Kishu Ken.

Edit: I went back to original mdp file to fix some things. To make it look more traditional, I basically made the background look more like parchment and I lowered the opacity of the fur color and "ink" a bit so that it looks like, in some way, the parchment bleeds into to the painting.

Been bringing back a bunch of old as shit Ginga OC's from early 2020. Descriptions for each character under the cut:

Chugata and Naka- the long-lost sisters of Akatora, Kurotora, and Chutora, with these two being appropriately dubbed the Kai Sisters. According to the Shin Gaiden manga, the Kai Brothers apparently were from a litter of five but only the three of them were dumped. I headcanon the other two as females and kept only for breeding purposes, but Chugata and Naka managed to escape that fate and survived till adulthood in the wild. Also much like how the Kai brothers are simply named after their coat colors, apparently "chugata" and "naka" are some terms related to Kai Ken colors/markings. Idk, someone I can't remember told me such on a Ginga Discord server a long time ago

Sachiko- a cream Kai Ken character whom I've talked about before. She's Kurotora's mate and the mother of Kagetora, Nobutora, and Harutora. Never thought of anything more than that tbh

Kurohyou- an Italian Molosser, Moss' mate, and Jaguar's mother. She guarded Moss' original home in the Kasumi Dake while her husband was away, earning her the title as the Queen of the Misty Mountain. Still haven't decided if Moss should die in my AU or not as he does in the GDW manga so I haven't thought of how she'd deal with that loss. Her name means "black panther" according to Google Translate

Sisu- a Karelian bear dog. Before any Raya and the Last Dragon jokes start, she is entirely based on Yoshihiro's early concept for Andy where he was going to actually be a Karelian bear dog named Sisu, I decided to steal that idea and make Sisu female. Her personality is completely meta in which she's jealous of Andy for being more popular than her just for being related to/looking like John, compared to Sisu who went through far more rigorous training to be a hunting dog

Yasuko- a black Kai Ken, and Sisu's hunting partner + psuedo older sisterly figure. She's the one who calms Sisu down the most when she's usually raging over Andy or something lmao

Kiba- a Kishu Inu who exists in the universe of my fanfic Ginga Togyushi Taurus. She's an Iga dog with zero brain cells. Literally no one knows why she's the way she is but she can surprisingly take out an enemy in a fight so she's allowed to stay. Kind of a joke OC but also kinda not

Out of curiousity, if everyone in the party were dogs, what breeds do you think theyd be.

I think Marcille would be an Afghan Hound.

Oh-ho, that's a very great question!

The Touden siblings Laios and Falin would be Kishu Kens, that's a Japanese medium-sized (up to 55 cm) and typically white-furred breed used for hunting. That's how I see the dogboy Laios when I draw him!

Marcille Afgan Hounds are very majestic, definitely on the elf side, but to me it's a little too majestic to be Marcille (she's silly), get me? I think Marcille is not a full blood elf, which technically allows me to make her a mixed breed! She would be some sort of a Rough Collie OR Shetland Sheepdog mix, with the general vibe of these breeds, a size somewhere between the two (Rough Collies are way too big and Shelties are too small next to Kishus) and a lighter shade of fur (coming from the other part of the mix). Sadly souldn't find a photo of what I was looking for, so attaching a normal collie photo.

Chilchuck Toy Fox Terrier, the white and tan coat variant. Small (up to 29 cm), silly, big ears. Or an alternative version: Chiweenie (Chihuahua and Dachshund mix), they just have this Chilchuck energy.

Senshi I'm not actually sure… Some curly breed, maybe something like Puli! They're not too big (about 43 cm) and it would look good on him

Izutsumi Cat! Okay, well... Whippet! They're cute, cat-like (if the internet articles are true) and athletic. Also, they aren't too tall or short in comparison to the other breeds i picked (about 45 cm) AND they can come in black and white!

TY FOR ASKING I HAD SM FUN WITH THESE!!! Tried to give them a teeny bit more of the fluffy manga kobold vibe, except with their normal eyes instead of dog eyes

I wonder how other people see them!
