i can't vibe with anyone who thinks icarus was an ignorant idiot for flying too close to the sun. "oh i'd never do that i would have remembered my father's warning and been fine". do you seriously think that after years of imprisonment, feeling the sun on your face and the open air beneath your wings, you would be able to focus on anything but the joy of being alive and free? do you actually think that if you were given the opportunity to go where nobody has never been before, you wouldn't want to push it to the limit? to dare to be the first to try what no one else has ever even thought possible? do you honestly think you're too good for your own human nature? look me in the eyes and tell me if i strapped a pair of wings to your back that could take you wherever you wanted to go whenever you pleased that you'd be careful and sensible about it. you are not better than icarus just because you have the benefit of his example.

Allow me to just sling the recap of this year's Spotify Wrapped into the void...

An extremely normal amount of music consumption considering I'm an insomniac and just a tiny bit unhinged ♡

Four years of the same band and song holding the top spots, the band would likely be longer if I had Spotify that entire time...

When I say that I've been obsessed with Alkaline since the year they released it...

The only other songs that come close to the chokehold Alkaline has on me would be The Apparition and The Offering, I love all three of them in a way I can not properly express

All the poking at myself aside about how much I've listened to this band's discography, and very specifically, this one song for the last several years... Sleep Token has gotten me through some extremely dark and low points in my life over many years, and I'm grateful that they exist. I get lost in the music and willingly give myself over to it on many a sleepless night. There's a comfort in it. There's also the fact it's fueled some of my own creative drives and thoughts, too. There's several pieces that comprise my attachment to the band and the music they've created, more than I'm willing to share in the end.

Looking forward to yet another year of sleepless nights and all the time that will be spent looping a handful of Sleep Token's songs to keep me company ♡

Personal piece :) The compression may be hiding this, but written on the underside of the antelope's skin is "un jour je serai de retour près de toi" ('one day I will return to your side'), which is something I have been turning over in my brain a lot as of late.
