you guys know those AUs where Stanley opens the portal after thirty years but for Ford only a few second/minutes/days have passed in the portal.

What if, in another world - by the infinite nature of multiverse - the portal was functional enough for another run right there in the portal room, that blistery cold 1982 winter day. What if, when Stanley threw enough things around and pressed enough buttons and the portal opened again (in the same spot in the Nightmare Realm it had before) (not calibrated to Ford like had been in canon) the Ford had stepped out was the one from his final confrontation with Bill. What if Ford stepped out thirty years older and wiser and angrier

What if he saw Stanley crying, relieved, and then terrified and confused and devastated. What if he, at sixty years old, saw Stanley and saw only a scared child, half his age. His brother.

What if Ford had thought his brother had left and grown up for those long thirty years, but he came back and it was his brother that saved him that very night? His brother, by sheer dumb luck? His brother, who couldn't have accounted for time dilation if he tried (not like the old Stanley did) but still tried

Stan and Soos' sorta-Dad and Sonployee relationship

We of course have Soos assigning Stan as his father figure the moment he got hired

But Stan holds that moment dear too, with Soos becoming his main source of company after the Mystery Shack, his first big success, was starting to hit rock bottom. And he made sure to keep the screwdriver that led Soos to him for a decade which unfortunately gets stolen by a certain time traveler...

(Their meeting being a paradox of Soos' family leading him to them is super sweet too!)

Playing one game of catch with their dads still was a dream for both of them, even when it was clear that it'll never happen, even when Soos knows that the Pines are his family and he shouldn't care about that biological deadbeat, even when Filbrick threw Stan away like trash.

But both of them end up finding closure with each other anyway.

Along with Stan likely teaching him how to fix golf carts (to the point that Soos is pretty skilled at it now), he also taught him boxing and tried to do something about his birthday, which is another sore spot for the both of them.

In the Sooscast, we have Stan continuing with the podcast despite learning this horrifying truth/not understanding what the hell is going on.

Noticeably, we see that Stan is a lot more lenient on Soos in comparison to Dipper, mostly because Stan doesn't project most of his issues onto him. (Not that he's immune from chores or shitty tasks but that's the burden of being a sonployee...)

And in NWHS, Stan trusts him to guard the lab with no questions asked (even if that ended up being foiled by Soos loving Mabel and Dipper too)

The comic story is Soos helping Stan regain and continue one of his childhood dreams, with the website having Stan continuing to draw on the Stan o' War.

And while unfortunately most of their father-son relationship content is at the end or after the series, Alex still said a lot about them in the commentary and interviews!

Before they met, Soos was someone who appeared to only really have his Abuelita and cousin, while Stan had.... a baby goat. And a disappearing frilly lizard.

We have Stan claiming that the reason why he never had children was because of his own dad and that money is basically his child (which just loops around back to his money obsession being his desire to get back his family)

But even still, he passes down the Shack and fez to Soos with barely any pause, the fez in particular being tied up with a lot of complex emotions. But Soos getting his own suit fitted just for him and not being pressured to wear a girdle to hide his weight kinda symbolizes to me that the role of Mr Mystery is now free from that baggage.

And whenever we'd end up getting Stan o' War stories, I'm sure the two of them are gonna get way more father-son moments

For the twins in time AU, I genuinely wonder what kind of people the young twins grow up into because of Stan’s/Ford’s influence. Especially if it takes years for the portal to get fixed.

(Sorry if it seems like I already sent this question, I don’t know if it got sent the first time I asked)

I haven’t fully fleshed out how Ford grows up in the past but I do have thoughts on Stan presently

that annoying moment when getting left for dead in the trunk of a car in your 20s comes back to haunt you 40 years later (take a shot every time ford says “stanley”)

The phone was ringing. Stanford picked it up with his usual greeting. “Stanford Pines speaking.”

“Ford,” a familiar voice said—one that Stanford hadn’t heard in years. It sounded desperate, panicked. “Ford, please. Please, you have to help me.”

Stanford felt all the air leave his chest. All he could manage was a strangled, “Stanley?”

They hadn’t spoken to each other since they were teens, and now Stanley was calling out of nowhere asking for help? He wanted to be mad. Except… his brother sounded so distraught. And Stanley didn’t beg. Not like this.

“Please, Ford. They’re coming for me. Please, help me! I can’t—”

Stanford felt ice creep into his veins as his brother broke off with heavy, gasping breaths. He could hear something in the background, other voices.

“Stanley?! Stanley, what’s going on? Who’s coming for you? Where are you?!” Stanford demanded, clutching the phone in a vice grip.

All he heard in response was a clatter, then a shout and sounds of a scuffle.

“Let go of me!” Stanley was yelling. He sounded like he was a few feet away from the phone now. “Let go! I won’t go back! I won’t!”

“Stanley?!” Stanford shouted. He felt helpless, his mind racing, trying to figure out a way to find where Stanley was. He couldn’t believe this was happening. His brother was being abducted right at that moment and he couldn’t do anything about it.

“STANFORD!” he heard Stanley scream. He sounded even further away now, his voice raw and ragged. “FORD, HELP! DON’T LET THEM TAKE ME AWAY! FORD!”

“Stan!” Stanford screamed in response, his hands shaking, body shot with adrenaline that had no outlet. “STANLEY!”

There was a long pause, Stanford straining to hear what was happening on the other end, only picking up muffled yelling. Then there was a rustle, and the other end of the line was grabbed.

An unfamiliar voice spoke, deep and neutral, “Please do not be alarmed. One of our patients managed to escape today and has been causing quite the ruckus. On behalf of the Idaho State Psychiatric Institute, we apologize for any distress this may have caused you.”

Everything came screeching to a halt. Stanford’s jaw hung open. “Idaho… Psychiatric Institute?” he muttered back dumbly.

“Yes. We are truly sorry for the disturbance to your day our patient has caused.”

Stanley… had been institutionalized?

“So he’s not hurt?” Stanford asked, still trying to digest this new information.

“He will be perfectly fine. We have everything under control.”

Stanford wasn’t sure he believed that. He couldn’t get his brother’s cries out of his ears. He couldn’t let go of how upset and distressed Stanley had sounded.

He couldn’t forget the way Stanley had begged for his help.

Or:

Stan has a mental breakdown and ends up forcibly institutionalized. He manages to escape at one point and calls Ford, begging for help. Ford gets the wrong idea and thinks Stan is being kidnapped and panics until a nurse clears up the misunderstanding for him.

And then he goes to see his brother. Stan isn’t mentally well, but Ford can’t allow him to just sit and rot alone in an institution. Not after that phone call. Stan needs him, and Ford doubts the institute could help Stan the way Ford could. So he decides to go and collect his brother, whether the institute wants him to or not.

He won’t let Stan down a second time.
