Mini-review:

I'm a huge fan of Jeon Jong Seo and I enjoyed The Call very much, so I was really looking forward to Ballerina, her second collaboration with director Lee Chung Hyun. Thankfully, it didn't disappoint. It's sleek and visually stunning, and Jeon Jong Seo more than rises up to the challenge. She definitely has what it takes to be an action movie star. Tbh, the script and the story are much weaker and unoriginal than in The Call, but Lee Chung Hyun clearly knows how to direct the hell out of an action scene. Also, the movie is pretty short, so it goes straight to the point and it never gets boring. Anyway, I hope these two keep collaborating, cause so far they've been on fire together.

P.S. There's quite a lot of triggering content, and I recommend looking up some warnings before watching.

SUMMARY: Revenge comes easy when they’re the last words of your best/only friend.

THIS MOVIE HAS EVERYTHING: Late night convenience store runs, mint chocolate cake, home aquariums, facial scars, gun-selling halmeoni, greasy hair, back-room pharmacies, indoor weed farms, horse stables, school uniforms, irresponsible BDSM, and flame throwers.

HOT TAKE: I really enjoyed creative cinematography that really helped carry the simple plot of this movie. Motives were cut and dry, villains were suitably hateful, and a real John Wick elegance ran throughout each scene.

Not necessarily my favorite K action movie, but a good watch if you don't mind some body horror violence and justice for the weak.

This is a huge fan favorite among kdrama fans. I can see where it does deserve it’s title being on top in some points. The whole storyline really isn’t anything new to the romance genre, big uptown girl falls for hometown boy with a twist. It is executed flawlessly and what makes it more entertaining and worthy of its title is the whole ensemble of the cast. They turn the whole series into something special. Don’t get me wrong Im a big fan of both Shin Min Ah and Kim Seon Ho works too, it’s just that they were sort of meh for me sometimes, not so much in the beginning where they were perfect, but definitely in the middle and the later half. If it wasn’t for the rest of the cast i would’ve probably abandoned the drama unfortunately, which goes to show you it’s not always just about the main leads.

King the Land

Netflix has some good Korean dramas but there are others that frankly disappoint. King the Land is one of them. It took me forever to finish it because it lacked essence. If the story was going to focus on the romance and be all bubbly, then the corporate intrigue should not have been included. The characters felt shallow as they focused on the situation at hand. It could have been an interesting story if their affection for each other had grown as they worked together to rise over the challenges and injustices employees suffered under the current administration. The plot of career woman with family could have been interesting too, instead, Gang Da Eul spends more time hanging out with her friends than with her family. . .

The series had a good cast but the writing just didn't do it for me.
