Hi there! I recall hearing at some point that in Midnight Mass, there was a deleted scene where Erin speaks in the confession booth about knowing Bev killed Pike, but doing nothing about it (or something to that effect? Apologies if I'm misremembering). I thought that was an interesting bit of characterization, could you elaborate on what that scene was like and why it was ultimately cut?
Yes, that's correct! It was a great scene, too. Very well acted by Kate and Hamish. The general gist of it was that Erin confesses to Father Paul that she was pretty sure Beverly Keane was the one who poisoned the dog, but that she knew she wouldn't do anything about it, given her standing in the community and her feeling that nothing would happen to Bev. And she knew that Father Paul was obliged to keep it secret because of the nature of the sacrament of confession - he couldn't tell anyone. She also talked about how her mother, who was abusive, was celebrated by the community even when they knew what she did, and how that made her feel like she would always be viewed as the problem child. No one would listen to her, she figured.
It was meant to show Erin being too afraid to do something in this case, even though she knew it was the right thing to do, and then we'd see her make a different decision at the end of the series when the stakes were at their highest. It was also meant to help demonstrate one of our central themes about the spread of fanaticism - that early in that process, good people often see what's happening and choose to believe it'll get better on its own, or that it isn't their place to intercede. And finally, it was interesting to me because it gave Father Paul an early glimpse into what Bev was capable of. He tries to persuade Erin that she might be wrong, that maybe there was another explanation - something else I quite liked thematically. He tries to rationalize it and reframe it right away, which is an important character trait of Father Paul's when we later learn how he responded to the Angel. I really loved this scene. It was cut because Netflix wanted the episode to be shorter, and had targeted that scene specifically as one that they felt "dragged". They also were confused as to why there wasn't a consequence to Bev, "why doesn't Father Paul do anything with this information" and weren't moved by my argument that 1) that isn't how confession works, and 2) his denial of what he learns is an important character trait. First we tried a shorter version of it, but it was one of those situations (frequent on that show) where a truncated version made the scene less impactful - shorter wasn't better. Ultimately they pushed for its removal and we conceded, opting to save our powder for a different creative battle. I regret cutting it. The show was better with the scene intact.

Finally finished the second Bridgerton book "The Viscount who loved me".
This won't be as long as previously, (I didn't lie but I had more than I thought to write about it) but I want to talk about what I liked with this book, especially comparing it to season 2 of the Netflix show.
First of all, justice for Kate's leg-biting and childhood trauma which was voided out of the tv-show.
Summary:
Viscount Anthony Bridgerton has decided to marry, but only for practical reasons, to have heirs and a Viscountess. Absolutely not for love, that's the last thing trauma-riddled Anthony wanted for himself. But was it what he needed? He finds a lovely new girl out for the season, Edwina Sheffield who seem to be the perfect choice, if only there wasn't for Edwinas unlovable elder spinster sister, Kate.
Kate has joined her sister out for the season after her family spent all their money to travel to society for the girls to find husbands, well Edwina to find a husband, according to Kate. Kate does not look for a husband of society, and nobody looks at Kate as even an option. Edwina sparked too bright next to her, and Kate do not mind. An issue flares up as the most infamous Rake (trademark) of the ton sets his eyes upon Edwina, Anthony Bridgerton will absolutely not marry Edwina if Kate has something to say about it.

Anthony and Kate starts a rivalry, with Kate stepping on Anthonys toes while dancing. Anthony coming with snide remarks or just hanging out with Edwina to Kate's dismay.
There are certain scenes which are adapted, and I would like to mention some of them.
The first scene was not adapted to the show, and it's at the party at the Bridgertons country home: Aubrey Hall. This is where Anthonys relationship with Maria comes from and he has had the Opera singer follow him to his office. Where... Kate has gone to hide from Anthony, and other people. Kate listens to Anthony telling Maria he will keep mistresses when he marries, making Anthony even more of a villain than Kate already thought of him. In this scene, Kate ends up biting Anthony's leg. Which is just so absurd.
The second scene was adapted, and this one was much better in the show than the book, and that is the game of Pall Mall. In the book, only Kate, Edwina, Anthony, Colin, Daphne and Simon plays. In comparison with the Netflix show where we're missing Simon (of course), but have Daphne, Eloise, Anthony, Colin and Benedict together with the Sharma sisters Kate and Edwina which makes it a much better "look into the family of the Bridgertons" which was quite fun. In the book there are some good parts that didn't fit into the show of course, and some of them are the part where they have lost the Red ball in the lake, and thus cannot play with the Red set, leaving after everyone has picked colors, the Pink and the Purple. Anthony is away picking up Edwina (whom the group has decided gets the blue one). Colin, the absolute instigator of too many events in "The Viscount who loved me" throws the purple set into the shed, out of view, leaving Anthony with only the pink set to play with. Kate also ends the game by shooting the pink ball (of Anthonys) into the lake, and becomes the "winner" by Bridgerton rules.
The third scene is the bee-scene, which has Anthony going absolute out of line trying to "suck the poison" out as he's sure Kate will die. His mother, her step-mother and Mrs.Featherington sees them. They now have to marry. I liked this much better than the extra lengthy drama in the series. It is easy to feel like Kate betrayed Edwina in the series, which is absolutely dreadful, in which she does not in the book. Instead the book focuses on Anthony and Kate having a "loveless" marriage until it's not, Kate's fear of thunder and childhood trauma, and Anthony's own trauma and knowledge of mortality.
Even Kate's injury is less dramatic, with only being a broken leg.
The ending kind of rushes after this, and we get a epilogue which shows the result of what they worked with in the end of their book, with the viscount and viscountess absolutely giving no shits and loving each other.
So, yes this has been my comments about The Viscount who loved me.

My internet died for about half a week this month, so I had a really peaceful few days where I had an enforced excuse to do nothing but relax and read when I got home from work. It was incredibly zen and I really sank into my books that week.
The Call of the Wild
A classic novel that I’ve always meant to read. I was sick and headachy this month and decided that this was the perfect sort of relaxing, narratively rich book to listen to. I really enjoyed it, would recommend. It follows a dog named Buck who’s snatched from his home in southern California and is shipped off to work as a sled dog in the Yukon, where a need for strong dogs to help transport goods over the snow and ice makes them very valuable. Buck has to learn how to survive in this harsh environment as everything from the weather, his fellows dogs, and his human masters seem to fight against him.
A Complicated Love Story Set In Space // How To Bite Your Neighbour and Win A Wager
Putting these two together because my experience with them was pretty similar. For both I was intrigued by the title, got them from the library on a whim, and didn’t really mesh with either. I didn’t really get far enough in either to give much of a review, they just didn’t vibe. A Complicated Love Story Set In Space set up a scenario that didn’t really interest me — not surprising, I’m picky about my scifi — and How To Bite Your Neighbour and Win A Wager just had an… odd writing style to it. It very much feels like it’s main goal is to be a kinda horny about vampires which, if that’s what you want, all the power to you, but it’s wasn't doing it for me. I had to suspend way too much disbelief for the scenario to function.
Indiana Jones and the Cup of the Vampire // Indiana Jones and the Curse of Horror Island
A pair of choose your own adventure books I found at a used book sale. I picked them up out of sheer amusement, and they were basically what I expected and paid for: cheesy 1980s adventure stories with Indiana Jones as a nominal protagonist. They were both varying degrees of improbable, ridiculous, and racist so YMMV but they were fun to play with while I was down and out on the internet front.
The Kootenay Kidnapper
Eric Wilson is a classic Canadian author who writes children’s mystery/thriller novels. I’ve never read him before and decided to remedy that. At this point I choose to withhold judgement until I read another… I’m not sure how I felt about The Kootenay Kidnapper. It had some nice descriptive language, successfully raised the tension from time to time and made me really try to piece together who the villain was, but then also had some strange dead zones as well. The whole thing read a bit like a 1990s stranger danger PSA which was also… weirdly nostalgic? But also just weird. Would try another.

I continue to be a MDZS simp, this is not news.
The Radium Girls
I don’t read much nonfiction, but this book was so narrative in its writing that I seriously couldn’t put it down. Kate Moore took a historical event (the girls that were paid to paint watch dials with radium paint in the early 1900s) that had been written about in scientific and legal styles, and instead retells it with a primary focus on the girls themselves. You follow a variety of real life women over the decades and learn about the all the machinations that went into them being horrifically poisoned by radium, and how that changed the very foundation of American workplace safety. Super engaging, unspeakably appalling.
Scott Pilgrim v1/2
My brother and I started watching Scott Pilgrim Takes Off on Netflix and… wow, it is not what either of us was expecting but we are loving it. We’ve both been big Scott Pilgrim fans since the naughts. Since I haven’t reread the series in years I decided I should pick it up to help notice the differences between the original series and this new show — I have the big, coloured omnibus version, so I reread the first collection of stories which amounts to volume 1 and 2 of the original.
Scott Pilgrim is one of those comics that if you’ve somehow never read then you really need to, it’s one of my all-time favourites. It’s a story about Scott Pilgrim, a young adult who’s awkwardly trying to figure himself out, combining a coming-of-age slice-of-life with magical realism. The mysterious girl he meets, Ramona Flowers, can travel a subspace highway through Scott’s dreams — of course, don’t they teach Canadians how to do that? Huh, maybe it’s an American thing. Scott is known to be the best fighter in the province and when he defeats an enemy they explode into a pile of coins. One of the Evil Exes has Vegan Powers, and another can summon demonic back up dancers. This story just does whatever the fuck it likes and I adore it for that.
Heaven Official's Blessing v3/4
I continue to be TGCF simp, this is not— seriously, the series continues to be excellent and I only get more and more invested in not just Xie Lian and Hua Cheng, but also in the side characters that are introduced. I was thrilled to have Shi Qingxuan become a bigger player in book 4, and really liked the whole plot with the Venerable of Empty Words and Black Water. Please, someone, help this guy…
The Wind in the Willows
Another classic I had never read that I decided to pick up. It was excellent, I can see why it’s stayed so beloved over the years. Though I love a good cute-animals-in-lil-clothes-living-cute-lil-lives story, so I was an easy sell. It was much more tame than the likes of Redwall, but had a bit more going on than the likes of Brambly Hedge — it keeps you very engaged, but never raises the stakes so high that it stops feeling light and comforting. It is essentially a collection of stories that follow Mole and Rat, a pair of friends that live together on the river, through the seasons and the various misadventures they and their friends go on.
The Woman They Could Not Silence
Since I liked The Radium Girls I decided to pick up another one of Kate Moore’s books. This one follows a woman who was intentionally committed to an insane asylum by her husband, purely because she was intelligent and outspoken, refusing to be cowed to his opinions or beliefs. This story details her time in the insane asylum, the abuses that the patients suffered, and how she came to fight the laws that allowed for such abuses to be perpetuated in the first place. A fascinating read about a historical figure I had never heard about before.

The opioid crisis — and the family that helped birth it — has inspired a number of books, documentaries, and TV shows, many of which aim to highlight the suffering caused by Purdue Pharma's criminally reckless marketing and promotion of OxyContin. In Netflix's The Fall of the House of Usher, however, Haunting honcho Mike Flanagan uses the works of Edgar Allen Poe to explore how moral and physical rot consumes the all-powerful (and fictional) family behind a sinister drug empire. Like Succession reinterpreted by the world's foremost author of Poe fan fiction, Usher is a Gothic-tinged horror lark that's more superficial than Flanagan's previous work but still delivers some creepy chills.
Fortunato Pharmaceuticals CEO Roderick Usher (Bruce Greenwood) has six children (by five different mothers), and when Usher begins, all of them are dead. The series is told in flashback, as a broken and ailing Roderick delivers his "confession" to Auguste Dupin (Carl Lumbly), a federal prosecutor who has been trying unsuccessfully for decades to bring down the Usher family's corrupt drug company. As a violent storm lashes the night outside, the two longtime enemies face off inside the dilapidated remains of the home where Usher and his brilliant sister, Madeline (Mary McDonnell), spent much of their very unhappy childhood. Over the course of eight hour-long episodes, Roderick eventually reveals the true reason his children met their ends — as visions of their mutilated corpses appear to torment him without warning.
Usher is packed with clever Poe Easter eggs. Roderick's children — incompetent eldest child Frederick (Henry Thomas), icy wellness entrepreneur Tamerlane (Samantha Sloyan), shamelessly ambitious medical engineer Victorine (T'Nia Miller), drug-addled man about town Napoleon (Rahul Kohli), ruthless family publicist Camille (Kate Siegel), and hedonistic youngest child Prospero (Sauriyan Sapkota) — share their names with notable Poe characters. Two other key players, cruel Fortunato execs Mr. Longfellow (Robert Longstreet) and Rufus Griswold (Michael Trucco), are named after poets Poe had personal beef with. And Madeline's lifelong quest to develop an AI algorithm that would bring users "virtual immortality" echoes Poe's obsession with (and fear of) death.
In his most famous short stories and poems, Poe wrote of people being brought down by greed and paranoia, addiction and violence, sometimes a senseless need for revenge. The Usher family is beset with each of these maladies, though their chief desire is to secure a life of complete comfort, which they do by amassing a fortune built on the pain of others. Young Madeline (Willa Fitzgerald) and Roderick (Zach Gilford) are launched on their path of moral decay by Verna (Carla Gugino), a mysterious demon who has built a successful career out of entrapping human "clients" by catering to — and then punishing them for — their inherent selfishness.
The poison apples don't fall far from the tree, and one by one Roderick's adult children destroy themselves in the name of avarice and glory. The Ushers and those in their orbit succumb to agonizing fates featuring many of Poe's greatest hits: Madness, mania, paralysis, and of course, premature burial. Each of Roderick's offspring gets a showcase episode that culminates in a grimly creative set-piece death — which is kinda fun, but it also, unfortunately, takes the place of true character development.
Fewer kids (and fewer scenes devoted to characters quoting Poe's verse) would have allowed for more time spent establishing who the children were as people, making their downfalls more poetic. Instead, they are all various shades of "good riddance" awful. The series spends the most time with Frederick, dubbed "Froderick" by his scornful siblings who dismiss him as a joke and daddy's number one suck-up. Thomas is wonderfully entertaining as the jittery, hapless Usher heir whose creeping suspicions about his wife (Crystal Balint) lead him to exact horribly unjustified and macabre revenge.
The cast, many of them members of Flanagan's Netflix repertoire, is dependably strong. Trucco brings a sleazy menace to Rufus, an arrogant boor who underestimates how far Madeline and Roderick will go to usurp him. Mark Hamill infuses Arthur Pym, the family's ruthless and unflappable attorney/fixer, with unexpected empathy, and Gugino delivers many a masterful monologue as Verna, who excoriates the various victims in her smooth and silky whisper. (Alas, her showdown with Madeline, an impeccably frosty and formidable force in McConnell's hands, is far too brief.)
The strong performances help sustain Usher in its sloggier stretches, though I still maintain that all streaming series should decide how many episodes they'll need per season and then subtract at least one. Flanagan's latest may not be his best (I'll save that spot for Midnight Mass), but it did give me an actual nightmare, one in which I was keeping my brother's severed head in a cardboard box — very much against his will, I should add. Poe would almost certainly approve. Grade: B

Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Kate, an assassin.Ani then helps Kate walk outside to the roof, where Kate sheds a single tear as she succumbs to her poisoning. The two have a fast draw and Varrick is fatally shot in the stomach. Kate locates Varrick, who is holding Ani at gunpoint. Kijima, aware that Kate is close to death, provides her with a small army of his men to assault Renji's headquarters.Īfter a fierce gunfight, most of Renji and Varrick's men are killed, and Kijima personally beheads Renji for his betrayal. Meanwhile, Ani learns of Kate's involvement in her father's death from Varrick, causing her to shoot Kate in the face when trying to reason with her, and leaves with Varrick. Kate uncovers more clues about the Osaka mission and realizes that her trust in Varrick may be misplaced after tracking down Kijima, who reveals that Renji made a deal with Varrick to incorporate his team into the syndicate in exchange for killing Kijima and all of his blood relatives. While Kate initially only wants to use Ani as bait to lure Kijima out into the open, she decides to become her protector upon learning that Ani's family wants to kill her as part of an internal power struggle, led by Kijima's corrupt advisor, Renji. Kate realizes that Ani is the girl who saw her father die during the Osaka mission. Desperate for information about the reclusive, well-guarded boss Kijima, who she thinks might be behind the poisoning, she kidnaps Ani, Kijima's niece. Kate finds Sato at a luxury restaurant and kills him along with dozens of armed yakuza. Kate tracks down Stephen and his girlfriend, and learns that they were strong-armed into poisoning her by Sato, a yakuza affiliated with the Kijima crime family. She steals injectable stimulant drugs and a gun and sets out to exact revenge on whoever poisoned her. Kate realizes that Stephen poisoned her, and after crashing a car, wakes up in a hospital to learn that she has acute radiation poisoning caused by Polonium-204 and only a day to live. Later, while preparing her sniper's nest, she starts getting symptoms of dizziness that cause her to miss the shot. The pair share a bottle of wine and have sex in her room. She tells Varrick that she will do one final mission, and then retire so she can start a new life.īefore the final mission, Kate meets a charismatic stranger, Stephen, at her hotel's bar.

While Kate's assignment is a success, this breach of her personal code to not kill in the presence of children leaves her in emotional turmoil. She ultimately shoots the target at Varrick's insistence. Kate is in Osaka to kill an officer of a powerful yakuza syndicate, but Kate resists taking the shot because a child has unexpectedly accompanied him. After she was left orphaned as a child, Varrick raised her as a father figure, giving her extensive training in weapons and combat and eventually inducting her into his private team of wetwork specialists. Kate is an assassin and expert sniper who eliminates targets chosen by her trusted mentor and handler, Varrick.

Girl, i read the vicount who loved me because i needed an easy read and OMG you are right. How can people think the book was better?
There's a lot that could have been even better (like calling out the engagement before the actual wedding and then make it a excuse as for why Anthony and Kate should wait to announce their own engagement so they give us yearning with good plot reasons) but they still did much better than *spoilers* suckin her teat to get bee poison out and the most gossip woman casually sees it FFS and the whole wedding night is a disaster. Why can't woman in historical settings be eager to have sex, specially when they think husband is hot? Also i only watched like three episodes of the first season but isn't forced to marry because they are found in a similar fashion exactly what happens?
The book is.....very, very low in my HR rankings (#78 out of 90) and I will never not be bitter that THIS series got a Netflix adaptation.
I saw Anthony/Kathony fans talking about seeing the bee scene onscreen before s2 was out and how excited they were and my brain was: ???. That scene is HORRIBLE. It makes Anthony look freaking pathetic -although the entire book is a testament of his pathetic-ness- and yeah, you are right it's mostly copy paste from The Duke and I. I thankfully didn't read the series in order, bc if I did I would have been even angrier.
As for the wedding night, yeah, it was beyond terrible. And to answer your question, there are in fact historical romance heroines that enjoy sex with their (supposed) loved one. Two of my favourite examples are the heroines from "One good earl deserves a lover" and "Never judge a lady by her cover" by Sarah Maclean, because neither of them are casual about sex; they are (somewhat) uptight, want to be in control and dislike being vulnerable. But they both have a great time with their heroes, because they are attracted to them and trust them. And also because the heroes are NOT a POS like Anthony who can't even take a second to ask the woman he (supposedly) loves if she wants to have sex with him right now or not.

How would you recommend a beginner get into Star Trek?
first of all, that's very cool and sexy of you. up top, i will note that right now, only the next generation and deep space 9 are streaming on netflix in the united states, and the rest of the series are only on paramount plus. if all you have is netflix and you're choosing between those two shows to start with, i simply must recommend DS9 because a) i loved it and b) i never watched the entirety of TNG (though it's on my list). however, if you are open to the whole wide world of trek, then i'd say pick your poison depending on what you're into! here are my elevator pitches for each of the series that i've seen.
if you like homoerotic madness, philosophy, and CAMP, then go ahead and give the original series (1966-1969) a spin. TOS is the first of the series that i watched and i had a blast. it's short, it's strictly episodic, it's about an aging 2/3 jewish throuple that bickers to show their love, and most importantly, it's a gateway to watching star trek the voyage home, which is one of the greatest movies of all time. but you can't skip right to it! 😩 continuity demands that you have to start with the show. if you are someone who thinks you would someday enjoy watching a film about a ship of aging homosexuals time-traveling back to the 1980s to liberate two whales from the san francisco aquarium so that space doesn't explode, then you should start with the original series, and grit your teeth through the misogynist bits so you can get to cinematic heaven.
if you like mysteries, kate mulgrew, developing AIs and a serialized quest narrative, try star trek voyager (1995-2001). the only one of the series (i've seen) with a series-long narrative, voyager is about a ship that gets trapped so far out in space that the crew may never make it home or communicate with their families again. this adds a tension to the show that keeps things moving; they're constantly scrambling for shortcuts and there are times when things get quite dark. it lacks TOS's retro drawbacks and offers a slightly more modern charm. i think it's a good series to start with! kate mulgrew heads this one up as the dykey and stressed-out captain who's also very horny, but in a professional way. various kinds of robofuckers are also welcome here.
if you like intricate politics and homoerotic adventures, try star trek deep space 9 (1993-1999). probably the best and most ambitious of the series, ds9 is about themes like faith, disillusionment, fatherhood, radical action, having a kind of gay friendship with an old queen who lies compulsively, trans women who go on tumblr, trans women who don't go on tumblr because they're too busy having sex with their trans boyfriends, and the moral virtues of socialism. it's also about various types of jewish stereotypes 🖖. i loved deep space 9 a lot but it took me like four years to watch because its increasingly complex serialized plot demands attention in a way that the most retro trek properties generally don't. but that's not a bug, that's a feature, and it's certainly more in line with modern sci-fi like the expanse than any other trek you'll find. i highly recommend it.
if you like fast-paced action with questionable logic and nonthreatening men, start with the reboot movies (2009, 2013, 2016). controversial take but they're what got me into the franchise in the first place and cured my depression so despite their overwhelming misogyny i have a soft spot in my heart for them. when people say "reboot movies," they're referring to star trek (2009), star trek into darkness (2013) 💩, and star trek beyond (2016). the emphasis on action is closer to a contemporary big budget movie in tone than the more peaceful and cerebral spirit of star trek, but the movies do a good job creating weirdly deep relationships between the characters, something you get less of the further back in time you go and the more episodic the series become. you will also get a sense of how starfleet operates which will help you jump from there to another series. if you watch TOS i do recommend watching the reboot movies next because they fold together into a love story.
if you like tight, in-the-know comedy and have already watched one or two other series, do yourself a favor and watch star trek lower decks (2020-). it's lovingly written by devoted fans and just packed full of references to the other shows and self-aware inversions of the classic trek formulas, so it's best enjoyed if you wait till you've watched at least one of the classic series before you give it a shot. very very genre-savvy little show. the art style is not what i'd call pretty, but it's worth it for the joy that the comedy brings. it's a show that will cockily take a very long walk to set up a joke and the punchline is always worth it. and beckett mariner is one of the best protagonists ever and i love her dearly. she's this hot shit wannabe rebel who is in fact brilliant and loyal and more of a hero than she's ready to admit. love that bitch.
if you don't want to bother with watching six or more seasons and you just want to dip your toe in, star trek prodigy (2021-) is designed to be a gateway series, and it has a lot of charm. prodigy is the newest entry into trek. aimed at kids, it tells the story of a boy and his friends after they break out of a prison camp and steal a starfleet ship to see the universe in. it is very much a kids' show, with all the heavy-handedness you'd expect (an obvious Villain, a blunt will-they-won't-they, various characters whose job in the narrative is to be Funny or Cute), but it also has real charm, and the protagonist's uncertain path toward becoming a good leader has really hooked me. there are only like five episodes out now and while it's not trek at its best, it's certainly a snapshot of the series' values and aesthetics that i think paints it in a positive light.
i cannot recommend watching star trek discovery (2017-) because it sucks absolute ass. i am currently watching it because tig notaro and the trans teens got me good, but i really don't think anyone else should. and as stated above, i've never seen the next generation (1987-1994) all the way through, i have zero interest in picard (2020-), and i've never seen a single second of enterprise (2001-2005) or the animated series (1973-1975). so that's my list!

M. R. James’ short stories, of course, but especially Count Magnus,
The Lottery and Other Stories by Shirley Jackson; the entire collection serves as one of my favourite retellings of the Daemon Lover ballad, although it’s not a very straightforward one—The Man in the Blue Suit (slash James Harris) is at most a peripheral figure, and his status as a supernatural entity is up in the air, since most of the stories are uncanny instead of explicitly supernatural (and yet, whenever he enters the stage, something shifts in the atmosphere & things go... very wrong, very quickly). I especially recommend The Tooth!

alright, i’ve covered some lowbrow musicals, so let’s talk highbrow now: The Great Comet is based on a tiny excerpt from War & Peace, but good god. it /feels/ monumental in scope. this song is... yeah. yeah. it’s also sung-through (like Les Mis, or Evita), so you’re not missing out on anything, even if you only listen to the cast recording!
speaking of songs with great Madi energy... Take This Waltz by Leonard Cohen (based on a poem by Lorca!) definitely reminds me of you!

on a related note... netflix’s castlevania is. well, i genuinely cannot say whether it’s good, but it’s fun, and its aesthetic is basically gothic on steroids. very explicit, that is to say: sex and murder usually take place simultaneously.

13/09/2021: saw this movie the other day via Netflix, more movies like these instead of that horrendous 6 underground movie. Loved the action sequences, they were fun to watch. No shaky cam, clear clean shots. Mary Elizabeth Winstead did good with her physical roles. Sound track is great, surroundings are beautiful. Love that neo look of Japan. It's fun, watch it if you got Netflix account. I'd definitely recommend it a lot. Enjoy the fan drawing. movie: Kate Film synopsis: Slipped a fatal poison on her final job, a ruthless Tokyo assassin has less than 24 hours to find out who ordered the hit and exact revenge.
