PRESENTING THE KIMONO STYLE & FLAPPER GIRLS OF RED STAR BRAND JAPANESE BEER.
PIC(S) INFO: In the lead-up to World War II, Japan was turning nationalistic and this may be why this 1937 poster features traditional Japanese dress again, as opposed to their graphic design choices in the 1920s and early 1930s when Japan was copying the fashions and styles of the West, as shown in the second poster.

Today I'm feeling very thankful for my teajourney, that it led me to so many cool people, that I found a new passion in the pretty boring life I led, and that I can keep learning something new.
Tea is a very cool thing, not only is it a tasty treat, but it can also improve ones health and wellbeing. You can use it as your meditation, your ritual, powerbooster, etc.
Whether you enjoy pouring its sweet drops onto a teapet with gratitude or you'd rather save every bit to yourself, doesn't matter, ceremony is yours and only yours to enjoy.
I think tea is one of those things that taught me to be grateful for the little things in life, and kind of stay in the moment,
and for that I'm grateful.

Wait hold on I just noticed something really funny.
I'm sure we all remember the incredibly gay moment of Domi quoting her father at Jeanne to talk about "enjoying her beauty:"
But! I just realized that this line was changed a bit from the real de Sade quote. The real life version that's usually quoted is this: "Sexual pleasure is, I agree, a passion to which all others are subordinate but in which they all unite." To be really reductive, it's essentially saying "everything is about sex."
Which like. This line as written was already a lot. But so long as there was no translation weirdness, we can assume that Mochijun picked this line out for this scene based on the "sexual pleasure" version. Hello lesbians.
#I took a look at the japanese version of this scene#and as far as I can tell 'acts of pleasure' is the accurate translation of the vnc version#so I assume this was a deliberate censorship choice on mochijun's part. which. fair#can't just come out and say the word in your shonen series#also now that I'm really looking at it. I can feel an essay brewing about this quote in the context of vnc#there's some v v interesting thematic relevance going on there#both with the original and the altered version#vnc#vanitas no carte#the case study of vanitas#english major hours#domijeanne#domijeanne tag

there is no foreign author as influential to a group of people as Franz Kafka is to Japanese writers. It’s like Kafka is their special little guy.
#this thought has been brewing in my mind for about 7 years now#it must have something to do with murakami right? at least partially?#tho maybe I’m think that because the first time I stumbled across this question was when I read Tokyo Ghoul#because that has a LOT of Kafka references/influences but also a lot of direct mentions of murakami’s work#but aside from Murakami himself and Sui Ishida I’m also talking about Mr. Asagiri Kafka himself#game writers too kafka is goichi suda’s fave author I think & kojima has a prettyyy big Kafka reference with the odradek in death stranding#of course there are also a few 20th century authors who were influenced by his works#like sure there are a lot of people influenced by kafka’s work#I just think it’s very interesting how Japanese writers are the loudest about their love for kafka’s work#and I’m asking myself if there is anything comparable to the grip that Kafka has on Japanese writers#and how that even started?#if someone has any kind of explanation for the grip Kafka has on Japanese writers plsss pls pls enlighten me#sina’s rambling

i really like tea but i havent been able to drink much in a bajillion years because as ive gotten a little bit older i've gotten even worse with hot drinks than i used to be and i dont have the time to wait for them to cool down OTL i mean i was always bad with hot things (i drink coffee with like half of the cup as cold milk to cool it down faster <3 ) but like now if a drink is like a degree too warm i die in real life
#when i was younger and i first heard the japanese phrase nekojita i was like#man thats wild it would suck to be bad with hot things huh#not realizing. that i am that. i am actively really bad with hot drinks JKFSHJHKFDS i can never buy coffee out because its too hot#i only ever buy iced coffee if its not coffee i made at home. even in the winter. king of iced coffee in the winter#people always go on about optimal drinking temperatures and im like NO i'll die. i will really die#steeping temps i get thats just the science of it but that also involves more wait time for me. if it steeps or brews at a high temp#im gonna have to wait like half an hour to drink it orz. TOO HOT too too hot. im just not good with hot drinks#FOOD im find with mostly i love hot food. not soup tho im bad with hot soup i need it to be like less hot. its about the liquids#brewster hates my ass. he has all my life

#ganondoodles#totk#sorry its gotten to a point where im actually annoyed#also i hate the argument with the green skin equals evil bc witches#you know who witches were? women brewing beer and knowing herbs so they could help heal people better#they are green in some cartoons for probably bad reasons since thats usually where tropes like that come from#sure there might be japanese folklore behind it too but this i meant specifically bc people brought up european witches#also cant help but low key feel like the green skin equals evil is akin to ugly people are automatically evil ..#on another note#him being green doesnt make it any better that hes the black main antagonist vs two white heroes#like we know hes black - or black coded if thats more like it- so making him green doesnt make that any better#at least to me its more of a cop out (?)#IF they are using it like that#similar to the -WeELLL ActUALly shes 5000 years old- argument#sorry if i sound aggressive im just annyoed really#anyway thanks to those who like my edit#put more effort into it than i should have lol#feel free to use it no credit needed unless you want to#its jsut an edit after all#that i did for FUN and not bc i blaim to have a superior opinion#gfndjkvgnkdfjkslfsdl

Fine quality table display to understand the ingredients.
Today, too, I am drinking alone. I hit a sake shop that is considered a sacred place in Tokyo. I was surprised to see so many people there, as well as a variety of sake. hi!! im thinking about getting tea for christmas for myself, what would you suggest trying? i havent gotten the chance to try much so i have no clue!! ive had shou puerh and did Not like it that much (tho it may have been a quality issue with that store- it was cheap). the sheng puerh i tried was great, so im kinda thinking a green or another sheng puerh. (if you have specific links to shops id love those, but not necessary) hope youve had a great week !! <3
Hello hello! Some cool things I would recommend trying are: blooming teas (teas made into a ball along with flowers that open up in hot water), some household name oolongs such as: Milky Oolong, Duck Poop Oolong or Oriental Beauty.
Yes, Shu Puerhs aren't for everyone, I myself haven't found any that suit my taste. But for Shengs, I found that Banna House (from Czech republic) has some very good quality ones, some even taste like honey.
For green teas, Genmaicha or Gyokuro (if you're open to japanese teas and their saltiness/slight fishiness). Lung Jing is pretty good chinese staple. Another chinese green tea I found a liking to is - Gunpowder, very cheap but very good for your immune system, and imo, it tastes great.
Now, I don't know if I can recommend shops, because I'm from Europe, but if you are too or you're open to ordering from here, shops to skim through are: "čajovňa dobrých ľudí", "literárna čajovňa", "ichigo tea", "banna house".
However, an US teashop I found, and wanna try from in the near future is, "yunnansourcing" (good quality and reviews) and kuuracorp - Australian.
Thank you, and hope you've had a good week too, sweets!
If anybody is interested in adding to the conversation / has any suggestions, feel free to join in the comments :)).

Eric Asimov writes about sake in The New York Times, opening with three paragraphs that will sound familiar to anyone conversant with the history of American craft beer:
When Shinobu Kato first tried sake as a young man in Tokyo, it tasted harsh and sharp to him. He hated it. But, he recalls, an older colleague told him that he was drinking cheap, poorly made sake. As he was introduced to better styles, Mr. Kato grew to love it.
When he moved to the United States in 2004 to study business at the University of Maryland, he could afford only the sorts of bad sake that had left such a terrible first impression. So he decided to brew his own, steaming and fermenting rice in his kitchen. To his surprise, he and his friends adored it.
Mr. Kato continued brewing sake after he moved to Nashville to work for Nissan. He grew so passionate about sake that, in 2016, with the encouragement of his wife, Ayako, he moved to Bushwick, Brooklyn, with the aim of opening his own sake brewery.
