i like TFP wheeljack but i cant deny i did laugh a little at the decision of making him specifically a cool edgy lone wolf samurai, at first i wasnt super familiar with g1 wheeljack so technically TFP was my first full impression and i thought he was interesting (i had only seen very little of g1 and finished TFA and bayverse at that point) but then i got more familiarized with the original version and i was like ?????

Currently going insane over the fact that a.) Victor is labelled as “Corporal” in the ST playbook, despite introducing himself to Mr. Newby as “Sergeant”-

-and b.) the fact that Adams and Hicks from the Eldridge crew were both listed as “corporal” by the actors despite Adams’ actor previously having listed him as “sargent”:

Which is especially interesting considering this bit from the ST4 Papa script re: “Sergeant Hicks”:

(and of course, Sgt. Hicks is involved in raiding the NINA bunker, hellooo TFS NINA weirdness!!!! also staring at this vs TFS Brenner Jr yelling at Henry about “any hick with a buck knife,” plus “Hickman Hill,” in the Elvis Cloned by Aliens Weekly Watcher article, PLUS the article from the end of ST1 talking about State Attorney Thomas E. Hickman (hello “E” as in (Edward”…) )

And I’m also staring at all of that/all of the weird Hicks vs Hickman vs Hickman Hill and the Hickman Hill alien ship stuff vs a.) the way that both Victor and Hicks get their officer title changed vs how Victor’s uses alien movie-esque language in the foyer (talking about how “they’re here,” and he’s NOT referring to Henry and Patty, instead, the identity of the “they” that Victor is referring to is unclear, and gets wrapped into his WW2 flashbacks/he then talks about being able to smell the smoke from “their” bodies, so weirdly enough, the victims of Victor’s WW2 bombing misfire are getting paralleled to aliens)

(especially with the fact that in-show Victor’s casting auditions were done by having the actors read from the script for the movie “Signs,” which is an alien movie)

b.) the way that Brenner Jr talks about making a connecting/making the connection & how that also has very similar alien movie-esque vibes re: “making contact”/“making a connection” with aliens

And c.) the Eldridge being a ship vs the spaceship supposedly seen above Hickman Hill vs Hicks being a sailor on the Eldridge.

But anyway, what the hell is going on with the weird mismatched WW2 officer titles??? Especially considering what I talked about wayyyy back re: Victor in Normandy on D-Day versus D-Day’s huge communication & chain of command problems & how that resulted in soldiers doing the duties of ranks they werent supposed to be doing/basically accidentally rising in the ranks… Versus TFS Victor introducing himself as being a rank above his “actual” (according to the play book, at least) rank, as Sergeants are ranked above Corporals.

And all of this gets extra interesting with the fact that there’s a direct reference to Welcome to Marwen (the movie from the ST4 board where a guy pretends to be a WW2 captain to cope with trauma & creates a whole fake little town as part of it hellloo hawkins esp with ���welcome to marwen’ vs ‘welcome to hawkins’) during the scene where Mr. Newby and Victor meet for the first time… hahaha what the hell is going on???

Especially re: the parallel between Victor’s “corporal vs sergeant” stuff vs the Eldridge crew’s “corporal vs sergeant” stuff versus the Eldridge crew & Captain Brenner also having references to Welcome to Marwen…

do you think james becomes like... significantly much nicer in the later seasons especially after edward leaves because he wants to "honor edward" or whatever because he misses his boyfriend him even though edward's not dead... like i definitely think edward would probably raise his eyebrows and giggle a bit because he's literally just at wellsworth and james can go see him if he wants but also takes it as an improvement since over the years james doesn't let his insecurities and ego take as much control anymore while still being james?? idk

Someone in the comments mentioned that the appeal for them comes from the tropes and narrative drama they can inspire and yeah, I completely understand the appeal.

Personally I just prefer the narrative dynamics without jegulus haha

I’m not bothered by jegulus as a ship, moreso the larger issue among all fandoms of ignoring or delegitimising the female characters and wlw ships. I have seen a number of people in the fandom complain about Jily or that Lily interferes with the jegulus dynamic or decentre female characters in favour of the ship.

Quite frankly I am indifferent to jegulus (if you ship it, I’m not bothered, it’s not that deep) and am just sick of the larger patterns of misogyny in fandom culture.

But then again what would the internet be without an undercurrent of casual misogyny /j

Although it has existed since earlier in the marauders fandom, it blew up (originally as a crack ship) on TikTok a couple years ago

Theoretically it was to have more queer ships in the fandom, however that doesn’t make much sense since there’s plenty of queer female headcanons in Marauders fanon. Although that would mean ppl would have to actually write female characters (gasp!)

Personally I prefer James as hetero (shocking I know) but even with queer!James it’s an odd choice to ship him with Regulus????

It’s mostly done for the Sirius-James-Regulus angst and imo to have a marauders equivalent of drarry

I’ll split my boys up and put each of them in a different pair. Even through it breaks my heart to split them and I will always still want endgame Jeggy, but they can have fun with these guys for a little while!! 😉

I am really liking Reg and Kingsley. I think they work so well together, and I love their dynamic. I honestly don’t think I would’ve thought of them together, but after reading a few fics with them (and some very delicious fanart), they are really good together and I have very quickly become a big fan!  

But I have to say my favorite rare pair is James and Evan. I love them together! And I wish there were so many more fics with them!! I also love me some rosestarkillerchaser… But there is just something about solo James and Evan that I love. I’m reading 2 wips right now that have them together and they’re just so cute and so sweet and so kinky and so smutty and I just want to squeeze them! James calling him Evy melts my heart every time 🥹 (I am nervous because neither of those wips have endgame tags and one of them I want endgame Rosechaser (is that their ship name?) and the other I want Jegulus but everyone keeps switching partners and it is so stressful.)

As far as writing them… I would love to write them eventually, but I don’t think I can yet. Or at least I don’t feel like I can. I definitely don’t think I know Kingsley enough to write him yet. I know I can make him whatever I want, but I’d be nervous if I wrote him right now, he would be very James-coded, and I wouldn’t want to do that. And I feel like I ‘know’ Evan a bit better, but I’ve only had him as a side character so far, and I think the same thing might happen to him and the ship would end up just feeling like Jegulus or Rosekiller.  

I haven’t written much other than my microfics and when I was writing a longer fic, I struggled a lot with finding Reg and James’ voices, if that makes sense. I kept bouncing all around different personalities that just weren’t them in that particular fic. And it was very hard for me to keep them consistent through the entire fic. And that was with Reg and James, who I write all the time, and thought I understood very well.

I think it would be even harder for me to write Evan or Kingsley as a main ship right now and be able to give them their own voice and personality and characterization. I have a feeling it would turn out looking more like I wrote a Jegulus fic, then just changed the name. And I don’t want to do that. (I hope that made sense and was all okay to say. If not, please let me know.)

I think once I get more comfortable writing in general, I’ll feel more confident to branch out more. (I’m just a baby ☺️)
