#It’s very interesting that there’s an OC I made who does share some traits with her.

GUYS- ok I honestly don’t even know lol
I feel like. If people hadn’t stolen Snape’s characteristics and given them to other characters like Sirius, Barty, Regulus, and even James- practically worshipping them for those stolen traits- but then completely dehumanizing and Villainizing Snape, removing those traits or making them seem like they’re just so undeniably wrong. That the marauders fandom could’ve been something so much better.
Snape does not deserve all the hate he gets within that fandom. However, I feel like. If you take away the characterization that belongs to Snape that was given to the others and come up with new characterizations for the Marauders- something original, not based off Snape. We could have a cool adventure story they seem to be wanting??
And I mean. If it’s an adventure story anyways. Why make them good people? That’s lame, overused, boring (at least to me). Keep the marauders as the bad guys. Keep their horrible canon personalities. Explore their bad traits! Don’t make them heroes, don’t make them good people. They’re not.
Maybe they get character development and improve during your story through shared experiences. That’s great! That would be amazing! But don’t right off the bat completely change them- making them basically into ocs.
What I think a lot of people may enjoy is some bad dudes hanging out. Going on adventures, breaking rules, stabbing people in the back, just being total jerks.
They sound horrible when I put it like that? GOOD. How fun would it be too see that? I mean. If adventurers are following the rules, the laws- are they really adventurers? They’re staying within reason. They’re not pushing the limits. They’re just. Normal, boring people that like to travel.
A lot of people like pirates. Pirates break the laws, they go on adventures, they can be real jerks, they can be horrible people- but they’re still well liked.
So, I feel like. If people had stuck to the original characterizations of the characters- explored it a little, made them worse by a lot or a little- focused on them breaking the rules and going on adventures similarly to how pirates do- (very important part here: WITHOUT VILLAINIZING SNAPE) we could’ve gotten a lot better fandom there. Now, I’m not saying everyone apart of that fandom is bad, I’ve met a couple people that were chill that were in that fandom. But, think of how much more interesting the stories could be if we focus on the bad traits of the Marauders.
You can still put random characters with them like Barry and Regulus- but tell us why and how through the stories, because realistically speaking, James would absolutely despise people like Regulus and Barty. Not because of their ideals- but because they’re slytherin.
Bad guys can be extremely interesting too! You don’t need to change the Marauders to make interesting enjoyable stories- it’s ok to like characters with horrible or questionable morals (as long as you don’t agree with them, if you agree with them… ehh.. maybe seek help-? I don’t know-!!)
BUT COME ON. Marauders being total jerks, bad people- but going on adventures. That’s interesting- and Snape? He can be his curious self. Suspicious of their actions. Maybe as he gets older he’d be apart of the law enforcement- who’s looking for the Marauders for their crimes, to make sure justice is served.
Y’all I don’t know- but I find this more interesting than whatever the current marauders stories are.

[ LEMNISCUS GUIDE BLOG!!! ]
☆Reading until end of blog will be much appreciated!!! (Psst, theres a discord server link i slipped in btw....)
Picture below isnt accurate with tumblr bc this was made for instagram post.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You may be wondering... "What is Lemniscus? Why do you keep mentioning it in your posts?"
TO BEGIN WITH, Lemniscus is one of the planets in this universe with Ribbaniuns the living beings in it! The population of Lemniscus consist the various anthropomorphic animals.
And thats where we begin sharing the story and contents of these characters by the name LEMNISCUS! You could say Lemniscus is a series/project my friends and i worked on together!!! (We took Lemniscus bc we literally only focus on this planet... No else.)
Tumblr media
Ah... So then, "Who are the characters? Why do they look like the characters from Sonic series?"
THIS. is a good one to explain and i reallly want you guys to keep in mind with this!!!!
Yes! The Lemniscus cast does look like the characters from Sonic the hedgehog because they do take the design and traits inspiration from them! BUT! The personality, backstories, interractions, lores, all of those... We worked and develop on it ourselves!!! (Theres similiarities still, but its only SLIGHT!!! Theres some differences when compared)
Thats why this is NOT counted as Sonic au, instead, its their own universe and story! The Lemniscus cast are original characters/ocs based on existing character that later we develop so they wont look EXACTLY like the existing char they took inspiration of!
I could say that this universe's origins of making is basically 'based on Sonic'. Throughout time, there are improvisasion little by little as we worked on building chars and stories, making it their own thing :D!! So, again, Lemniscus and Sonic are two different thing... I appreciate yall's understanding. I dont want any miscommunication between Lemniscus and Sonic franchise! <"3
The original characters belong to their respective owners <3 (Keep in mind we are 4 person putting our characters in ONE and worked together in this)
Tumblr media
Alright!!! Now INTRODUCE THE CAST/CHARACTERS!
Here ill list out the characters name with their profile links AND respective owners too! Get to know each of them by clicking their names:
Hz Railstar, Alora Quinn, Victoria Opal, Ezra (JULIE/HANA!!! ME!!! :D HOIHOI!!! I link you guys to my chars' masterpost in tumblr hehe,,, its more detailed!!!)
Gausberto, Nova, Puffin, Xenophone (Hani! NOTE: She doesnt put much infos of her characters, i'll most likely be the one to share the infos through source from her she is my own sister after all Infos about Hani's chars are most likely in the discord server!)
Aero and Noire ( @m3tr0n0m333 )
Rambutan Stoneheart ( @cherriosblog )
OH!!! But thats not it!! Theres more infos i'd like to share....
Slowly but surely, we noticed our Lemniscus contents dragged people to start being curious about it, even interested with the series/project we worked! Of course, with a warm welcome, we opened a discord server, ☆LEMNISCUS (Hz Universe), for the little community we have :D!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The server is a great place for you to learn more about the characters (bc again, SOME of the Lemniscus cast here are explained alot more in the discord server instead!) and LORESSS obviously! Its even easier and you can keep on track whenever new things are shared by us :)
The characters arent only the ones shown here... In fact, there are more than you think. Yes! Im talkin bout the side characters! Theyre mostly explained and digged alot more in the server soo....
Hop in and join to get more familliar of Lemniscus!! ☆
.
This must conclude the blog. Thank you everyone for the consideration and supports of this little project we worked on! <3 I, the one to start all this fun chaotic universe is very grateful that i'd make it this far by sharing contents of these silli cast, not only me, but by you dedicated supporters and friends that worked alongside me ☆
Live, laugh, burn Hertz!🔥🔥🔥🔥

Happy Storyteller Saturday! Lisabelle and Agnes Black share a sirname, are they related? Do they get along well?
don't know if you meant to write sirname instead of surname or if it's a typo but it kinda slaps. sirname, the name you're sired with. interesting idea
yes, they're sisters! Lisabel is the younger one, being six years younger than Agnes. she's... well, "complicated" would be an understatement. she's got untreated ASPD (guess personality disorders run in the family huh), so ever since she was a little girl she's felt something was wrong with her, but didn't let that stop her from learning from her surroundings and mimetizing herself into whatever social context she wants. it's not that something's wrong with her, it's that everyone else are just idiots! yes, that must be the reason why she's different. she's manipulative, calculating and has subzero empathy towards most people, but since she was so smart and always looked so innocent and was the teachers' pet, she almost never got in actual school trouble. she took advantage of everything she could, including teachers, other classmates and even her own sister at some points, although she does feel some attachment towards her, even to the point of using her tools to dissuade people from messing with her at school
another important trait of hers is her morbid curiosity. she was the kind of girl to poke dead animals, put salt on a snail to see what happens or step on a chick that's fallen out of its nest too early to see how it looks on the inside. her lack of empathy plays a big role on this, and ironically, kids at school were more scared of her than her big sister Agnes who was much more physically imposing and openly threatening. if you bothered Lisabel in any way, you would soon find a live or dead animal in your locker or class desk, either about to die or gruesomely dismembered. and then you'd never want to be left alone in the same room with her ever again
they weren't extremely close, but there was a bond, regardless of its nature. they both had to go through bullying at school, and they had each other's backs through their not-so-great childhood, even if they didn't show their affection towards each other in common ways. then they got separated once Agnes left their hometown and she was like *shrug* ohwell, then she left town trying to get through med school, promptly got kicked out of med school for malpractice (is that even possible? i literally made that up lmao) and would've had to resign herself to having a normie life with a normie job while suppressing her unethical urges. thankfully, Agnes managed to plug her in with Ryan and he ended up hiring her for his crime organization as an "intel extractor", skyrocketing her sociopathic tendencies to previously unknown (and very illegal) levels. living the life, basically!
in conclusion, they get along just fine. kind of a "you're both fucked up but perfect for each other, never include anyone else in your relationship" situation, but it works for them. Lisabel is there when Agnes needs her, and Agnes is there when Lisabel needs her, regardless of the things they might dislike from each other. a deep, silent bond between them
kinda unrelated but not as much as you'd think, Spooky Askbox is open as a STS sub-event! swing by with an ask about my OCs, Halloween theme optional!

You made a blog for your ocs!!! How did I miss this!!
Please, if you can, tell me some fun facts about best girl Bria 💕✨✨
What are her hobbies? What does she do for self-care? What kind of books does she like to read? And anything else you can think of!
I did! And you’re my very first ask…I’m absolutely astounded, honestly, that I’ve gotten an ask or that people are checking out this self-indulgent sideblog of mine. Thank you so much for your interest in best girl Bria! I love writing about her; she definitely gets some favoritism from me so I loved answering this. I hope it’s interesting to you and others who aren’t me, but really, just thank you so, so much for giving me this excuse to rant about her!
Let’s start with the actual questions you posed. We’ll start with the hobbies that Bria has. Which really aren’t too many, to be honest. She has far less hobbies than she wants to have or would like to have. In one of Bria’s most toxic traits, she’s super hard on herself and pushes herself to be crazy productive. In her mind, she’s not worth a lot, as a person and as a Guardian, unless she’s always being ‘perfect’ and her idea of perfection is intrinsically tied to being productive. In her mind, she should always be doing something. She pushes herself really hard – she must be among the tops in grades in school. She must not only take care of her other Family members and the house they all share, but she must stay active and current on everything going on in their lives, in their varying hobbies and changing interests and such. When she’s not doing that, she feels she must be training and improving her skills. When she isn’t doing that, she feels she must be learning various subjects that will help the Family, along with learning the wider world of the Mafia.
It leaves her very little time for proper hobbies of her own. However, in the little bits of time she does find herself with in between everything else she does, she does somehow find times to have a couple things that she really loves and considers hobbies.
Bria is definitely one of those weird people who truly enjoy house-cleaning, for one. Other than just feeling like she should be responsible for it, she volunteers and takes over taking care of the house because it’s something she genuinely finds relaxing. House-hold cleaning and chores aren’t too mentally taxing, they’re monotonous, and that gives her overactive mind a break while also allowing her to have an outlet for the huge amount of nervous energy she normally contains. Her favourite chore is the dishes and her least favourite is cleaning the bathroom. Both Guiana, Raf, and Lara always leave it an absolute mess, with Lara’s makeup and skincare stuff always being all over the place, Guiana having a bad habit of just wiping her hair onto the shower wall when it sheds, and Raf leaving spit-out toothpaste in the sink.
Bria also has a really strong interest in not only interior décor but houses and architecture in general. This is expressed during her teen years in first redecorating and rearranging her own bedroom a dozen times over and then doing the same to the house Luca and the Guardians end up sharing. She’ll be the main one deciding how the place is decorated, though she does take the others opinions into consideration. She also checks a lot of real estate listings and I think one of her main guilty pleasures is going to open houses, even when she has no intentions of seriously buying property or anything. It’s surprisingly Tony who often accompanies Bria to these. In fact, later on, when they’re both adults, I see Bria and Tony, who actually shares her interest in architecture, restoring and selling at least one or two historical properties.
Bria also has a real soft spot for paint-by-numbers. She doesn’t really consider herself a good artist. When faced with a blank white canvas or a blank sheet of sketching paper, she has no idea what to create. She becomes overcome with fear about messing up or creating something that’s trash. With paint by numbers, she gets to feel like an artist, while not having to worry about messing up. She knows the picture she’ll create will look good because it has rules and guidelines already in place. She finds intense satisfaction in perfectly filling in each spot and gets excited for the finished product each time. A lot of the art in the places she’ll live are her finished paint-by-numbers and, other than books, these are the gifts that the other’s often think to give Bria.
I say other than books because Bria’s main hobby and her biggest love? It’s reading. She’s been a voracious reader since she was a child. She’s been reading since she was four, encouraged by Luca’s father who would sit and help her sound out words or would read to her and Luca. She was reading junior chapter books by the time she was seven and had progressed to actual novels by the time she was ten. She is a quick reader and, despite pushing herself and having so little time to herself, she aims to finish a book every month, though she does prefer months when she gets through more than just one book.
She’s not really finicky about what she reads. She’s willing to try most genres and styles, such as fiction, non-fiction, poetry and the like. She really loves non-fiction, especially biographies. When reading fiction, she’s a fantasy novel geek, likes some comic books, and is shonen manga trash, which she’s less shy about admitting. Her secret guilty pleasure for fiction though, and the one she tries to hide? She’s a huge fan of romance novels and shoujo manga. The one she ensures she hides? Her love of trashy erotica ala Harlequin novels, Fifty Shades of Grey, Billionaire Boys Club, etc.
As you can probably guess, Bria doesn’t really allow much self-care into her life. Her entire worth is really based around what she can do for others, often at the expense of her own needs, desires, and health. She wouldn’t even know where to really begin with self-care. To her, the term is really about things that she doesn’t have much interest in – bubble baths, skin-care routines, shopping days, and other stereotypical self-care clichés. It takes her a long time, honestly, to realize that self-care means so much more than that and really encompasses anything she feels like doing to relax.
Fun little facts – she paces whenever she gets angry.
She talks with her hands without even realizing she’s doing so.
She’s embarrassed to admit it, but she reads her horoscope and the horoscopes of her family members every day. She’s not entirely convinced of the validity of astrology, but she’s not convinced there’s absolutely no validity.
She goes to bed pretty early compared to some of the other members of the family, but has a hard time falling asleep. It normally takes her at least an hour or more to fall asleep.

okay, really random question cause i’m nosy (also, totally don’t have to answer if you/your spouse isn’t comfortable with it). are any of your OC’s based on/inspired by your spouse? or if not, which of the characters you’ve written for do they share the most traits with?
i know you’ve answered this about yourself before, but i’m just kinda wondering how these responses would complement each other, you know?
Hi Bestie!
I don't mind at all!
I do have an OC in my novel who isn't ENTIRELY based on my husband but there's a lot of overlap. This character is a romantic hero eventually but he and the MC (who is the one who overlaps with me the most, I think) are just friends for a while and he will make a very similar speech to what my husband made to me when we got together lol (which I will share if there's any interest. The husband speech not the character speech as I haven't written that part yet lol I just know when and how it will happen)
I also draw from things about him to sprinkle into other characters, but that's less of an exclusive trait lol I do that with a lot of people I know (including exes but I'm friends with a lot of my exes and my husband is totally fine with that.)
He does know that I draw from him (and other people) for characters and I do kind of wonder if he would recognize the stuff that comes from him. He's not big on the genres I write so he hasn't read much? But I hope he could.
But yeah! He's definitely influenced some characters lol
Thank you for asking and being interested! Love you!!

Hello there. I just wanted to say I adore your gravity falls oc ming. May I ask some questions about them? :)
What are their pronouns and sexuality?
How old are they?
Are they like a mythical creature of sort or a human?
What do they think of Stan, Bill and Ford?
What do they think of Mabel and Dipper?
Do they have a love interest?
Who from the gravity falls cast do they dislike the most?
Thanks in advance for answering! I'm excited to learn more about them/her/him
Hellooooo!:D Let me take a moment to say thank you! It makes me incredibly happy to know people enjoy my silly characters much less ask questions about em! I akwas think it's incredibly sweet!
As for the questions I'll try to answer as best I can! But I'm still working on Mings story as we speak so I'll try and not give away too much to not spoil anything!
Answer below cut cause it's a lot-
Mings main pronouns are He/him but if you called him by other pronouns he probably wouldn't bother correcting you in most cases, it's not something he cares about all that much.
He is Pansexual/romantic, however considering he was born in the mid 70's he probably would've never acted on any of the crushes he might have had that weren’t considered "normal".
The drawings you saw of him are of him at around age 20! But his actual story starts with him at age 10.
For the most part yes, he is human! And for half the story he stays human.
Ooooh boy do I have some to say about that!
Stanford Pines:
Ming and Ford go way back, they knew each other for the full ten years he was in gravity falls so Ford basically watched him grow up! He was his teacher, his friend and a parental figure!
But just because that's what Ming saw him as that doesn't mean he was very good at any of these roles. And the older Ming got the more he understood that fact.
He went from viewing Ford as someone he highly respected and felt connected to as fellow weirdos, to growing bitter as his mere presence became exhausting as it felt like he was no longer his pupil but a tool that served him.
Stanley Pines:
These two only shared 1 proper interaction before the portal incident so neither really got to form a clear opinion of the other. Ming doesn't fancy making full opinions on people without properly knowing them first.
But as first impressions go: He realized Stan was someone not on the cleanest path in life, yet he himself as a person was fully capable of being genuine and sincere so there was hope that may be he could knock some sense into his brother...
Bill Cipher:
There wasn't always tension between these two, after Ming discovered Bill he bought into his whole act, he genuinely was fond of him going so far as calling him "uncle". They never made deals, instead the two of them made bets.
And it was after one of these bets that Cipher became a lot more careful around the boy after discovering something, trying to manage him better.
That more forceful way of manipulation was it. It was that very crack in the facade that made Ming see him for who he really was.
And he didn't like that triangle one bit afterwards.
*I never really thought about the next two that much yet so these might change a lot down the line!
Mabel Pines:
I think he would hold her very dear! The two of them are very high energy and friendly characters so they just naturally click ya know? Real chaotic sibking energy they actively encourage each other to cause chaos and act on impulse.
Basically a lot of older brother type behavior with Mabel, would also definitely offer to do her hair for fun!
Dipper Pines:
Dipper is a lot like his great uncle, Ming does not deny that but he also understands that whatever personal quarrels he may have with that man he should not see him as Ford but as his own person.
That being said he still subconsciously tries to discourage a lot of Fords...less than pleasant traits that Dipper portrays. And also makes sure he isn't treated in a similar way that he was.
Above all the there is one simple reason why he would adore Dipper without question: He is very close to Ming's younger brother.
Ming has no love interest at the moment! Unless you count a crack ship I have between him and another friends oc lol, romance really never was planned for the story I wanted to tell with him, it also wouldn't add anything to his character so I never bothered.
The most obvious choice would probably be Bill but honestly there is someone Ming would despise even more just because the damage they caused was way more personal to him and his mental health than anything Bill ever did in the time he knew him...The shapeshifter.
Thaaaaat is everything I have to say for now!:D again thank you so much for asking these questions and I hope you enjoy whatever Ming content I put out if you decide to stick around!^^

🪽 I need the angel OC lore NEOWWW!!
angel oc lore? how about lore for an oc that's literally an angel!
『 🪽 』
infodump about an oc
the oc i will be discussing today is an scp oc i made named raziel. their pronouns are they/them. i don't have a very developed storyline fur them so i can't share a lot of info. I'll probably show off a lot of picrews i made of them though. (no links too lazy. ask fur link if uu need)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
present day raziel vs past-ish raziel. present raziel here is one of my most favorite picrews I've ever made of them and it's basically their design. and once again, warning, this oc is for the scp foundation and I'm too lazy to explain stuff about the scpf, so I'm going to infodump assuming that the readers of this post know what I'm talking about. and if uur curious or confused and uu care at all just ask
as a bonus here's a link to a playlist that i associate with raziel a lot. i listened to it when i daydreamed about them and stuff
so yes, raziel is a literal angel walking amongst mortals. i made my own lore for how angels work in this universe, based on like some info i read online about the different classifications of angels and what they're like. conveniently I've stored screenshots of the notes i typed (i typed them in a private post i made in this Tumblr account back when i still used this for private notes...) so uu can read these if uu wish
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
sorry if none of it makes sense i wrote allat like 3 yrs ago and i still think it wouldn't have made sense if i wrote it now
but anyway. RAZIEL LORE
they're insanely tall like 7ft tbh. their form looks a bit unnatural fur a regular human but no one else notices they look out of place. some people who can notice anomalous traits in objects and entities can notice and sense that raziel isn't human. they may also see raziel glow and see raziel's halo. they would also be able to see raziel's wings but raziel has an... absence of those. after their wings got ripped out as ordered by God. yeah
raziel also has a special anomalous trait where they absolutely cannot be photographed, because anyone who sees their face becomes infatuated with them and begins worshipping them, the effects and intensity of the obsession worsening over time. a few people have died because of this. the foundation is aware of this, and destroys any photos of raziel's face they can find, and provides amnestics for anyone who has seen their face. raziel is compliant in the security measures regarding this and hates when photos are taken of them
they also wear a lot of bandages on their body. i contemplated making it so that their body cracks like porcelain sometimes. i thought it'd be cool
raziel's main department is astronomy but they also have a lot of expertise in theology (wow i wonder why). they like to ignore their theology expertise but somehow, situations always happen where their theology knowledge is Needed, and Acknowledged as a result
like i mentioned in the universe lore, powers are split up into legions like task forces to do different jobs. raziel does a quite boring job, on earth, where theyre the equivalent of a hitman who tracks anomalous objects and eliminates them. this is how they got involved with alto clef during his GOC days
Tumblr media Tumblr media
more raziel. this picrew didn't have heterochromia options but raziel's right eye is brown and their left eye is red
Look idk much about the lore with popular scp characters, I'm interested there's just .... A lot of reading to do and i can't read nowadays, so clef's story and character here is based on scp 4231 bc I've read that as well as just my own ideas fur him
raziel and clef met when they were on separate missions to raid and ambush the same reality bender. they met each other by chance and decided to temporarily team up. i imagined a few snippets of this—raziel heavily smoking cigarettes bc they knew they couldn't die anyway, and back then they were less uptight that they are now; raziel and clef fighting the reality bender in an abandoned factory; and the two of them setting the factory ablaze and blowing it up
they settled into some sort of relationship where they're not really friends and they don't like each other but something draws them together and so they spend a lot of time together. they don't open up to each other, and raziel knows about clef's struggles with Lilly because they can read his mind, but they don't help him or talk to him about it at all. clef can also see that raziel is an angel, he sees their halos and the eyes on the halos, their giant wings, their glow, and he doesn't mention it either. so yeah they have that kind of friendship
idrk what happens between Then and Now, i just know that raziel transfers to the site clef works at, and clef Instantly recognizes them and knows they met before. and then he tries to investigate them or whatever and learn more about them bc he feels like something's up and he doesn't know enough about this Mysterious Person whos somehow returning to his life again IDFK DUDE LMFAO throws these blurbs at uu
Tumblr media Tumblr media
okay WOE PICREW DUMP UPON YE!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
honestly i think the main difference between present day raziel and past raziel is that past raziel used to Live like a Human. i mean they didn't feel like a human nor did they behave like one but back then they at least had a fake life like one. they were rich, they had an apartment, they cared a little about their fake appearance and made sure their hair and clothes were always beautiful and fancy, they indulged in human vices bc they knew these vices couldn't affect them, etc. and then along the way something changed. and they cared less until they stopped caring altogether. and their life became hollow and empty
also why does raziel wear a devil horns headband? idk either i just thought it'd be cool and figured, fuck it, it's scp, it's not the weirdest thing a character has in their appearance, and i could just make it so no one questions that part of their appearance either. so yeah

Are you comfortable saying what characters and what about the characterization you disagreed with? Just curious!
I don't want to get too specific because I'm not trying to do any kind of call out post! But it was a sort of situation where a specific character is highly whitewashed and can do no wrong, no matter how understandable or even welcome that would be. It's frustrating writing, not just because it's annoying to read about characters who can and are not allowed to Do Anything Wrong, but also because it's not human.
I'm a huge proponent in messy characters. People making mistakes, making assumptions, saying or doing the wrong thing. Good, well-meaning people who make mistakes, or get upset in the heat of the moment. Especially because they can and absolutely do exist with good or "paragon" characters! It adds so much more depth and interest and relatability! I love positive traits taken to the point of flaws! It's my crack!
And here's the tangent that's made me decide to answer this ask: I. Fucking. Love. That. So here's some very random examples of Good People and Characters with Positive Traits that can be flaws:
PETER PARKER. Amazing Spider-Man's semi-recent Sin's Past arc directly discussed this. Peter has a hero complex; he IS a hero. He compulsively needs and wants to save everyone, explicitly due to his own guilt complexes. It also makes him controlling. He will or won't allow help, will or won't share information. He keeps things to himself, he refuses to share, he intentionally keeps people out of the loop. He wants to save everyone. He thinks he knows how to do it. He dismisses and pushes friends away. He is a great hero and often a shitty friend.
CRITROLE, my guys Caleb and Nott. Best friends, they love one another, they are ultra found family. About halfway through the campaign, Nott begins to struggle with her personal issues, openly and obviously (Xhorhass and Flaskgate). Caleb cares for her a lot. He wants what is best for her. Instead of talking to her about her problems or calling her out on her recent recklessly dangerous behavior, he refuses to talk to her at all. He enables her, an alcoholic, with alcohol. It isn't that he wants her self-harming or in danger, it's because he loves her and can't bring himself to call her out or bring himself into conflict. He Fucks Up.
ALOY Zero Dawn. Another heroic type, she spends about half her time refusing friendship, help, companions, all of it. Her catchphrase is "I'm faster alone." She saves the world and skips the victory party. She's too busy. She has too much on her plate. She hurts her friends. They tell her this. She pushes them away. It isn't because she doesn't want friends -- she's actually a fairly warm person -- or even because she's so anti-social. She has the best of motives and reasons, and she is still a bad friend. She is cold. She is unkind. She is quite cruel to [SEQUEL GAME SPOILER CHARACTER], who we AND she knows does not deserve it, but she sees too much of herself in this person and lashes out. We know why she does it. It's still a dick move. We still love Aloy.
(you might think I'd include current hyperfixation smoothbrain vampire on this list. i cannot. he is an asshole on purpose. his minimal goodness is in spite of this, not because of it.)
I'm not for a second going to pretend that I'm a great writer worth bragging about. But it's something I like to do too. My current OC Tav lady is passive and easy-going. This is a flaw. She isn't passive and easy going because she's okay with shit, but because she feels like she can't and has no right to complain. If you give someone a Trait, follow it to its logical end. How is it good? How is it bad?
It isn't that "these characters are flawed" is some plot twist, it isn't that "characters having flaws" is news. It's that in all three examples, these are characters whose positive traits (heroism, love for another) have the side effect of hurting others. These are characters who are sympathetic (Aloy is isolated, Aloy lashes out for understandable reasons) but still make mistakes (being mean to someone who doesn't deserve it).
In the fanfic I was ranting about, there is neither. The person does not make mistakes, does not take their heroic, story-specific flawlessness into this direction. When arguing, they have the moral high ground, but also the flawless composure to not be rude or hurtful or controlling or a little bit rude in making their points. The other characters fall over themselves to apologize, to understand, to feel sorry for opposing them. It isn't just that they have no flaws (a subjective phrase), it's that the universe twists and conforms to them. There are no consequences, no stakes. They are the sun at the center of the universe. And I vastly prefer messy heroes.

not sure how to word this but im just curious about kazuyas design and character? :0 i was wondering why and in what ways her character was inspired by nagito, and other characters' inspiration from other canon characters, not in a bad way at all its just interesting to me in how canon dr does this as well and the function and purpose it serves in implications and expectations it creates for the characters. its really fun to me :3
also i really like your ocs, their designs, talents, personalities, etc is all really cool !!
thank u!!! kazuya is prob the most obviously based off of a canon dr character but he's not the only one, and in fact i made a lil chart a while ago for who is based off of what canon dr character, whether it be for personality or design
Tumblr media
Kazuya was the first dr oc i made and i had a clear idea in my head of what i wanted them to be. Me and some friends were talking about how it would be awesome if komaeda was a lesbian instead and i said hey, what if i just make an oc exactly like that. But as much as he is a direct inspiration from nagito i try to keep him a bit different (or at least i hope i do).
But kazuya also has an in-universe reason for his connection to nagito :^3c. This cast is kinda like the v3 cast in that they are fictional characters with implanted memories, but unlike v3 they got to design and create the characters they play themselves, even if they didn't know that's what was going to happen at the time. So for kazuya, before he got his memories wiped he was a huge komaeda fan and wanted to be just like him lol, so that's why he made his own character like that
i could go into a lot more detail for the other charas on the chart but i'm gonna try and keep it relatively brief and put it under a readmore
starting from the left column and going down, Emiko was kinda passively inspired by komaru, but they ended up very similar in some ways. Their designs are similar and they have similar types of confidence issues that lead to inaction. Also they are both in love with girls who are terrible (said lovingly).
Haruka's design was based somewhat on byakuya's, and i sometimes even joke and call him 'femme byakuya'. But also his snobbishness is a trait i stole from him as well. But, like celeste, his air of sophistication is all a lie to make it seem like he's not just some guy.
skipping kazuya
For ayumi i kinda just stole leon's motive and his thing where he wants to be something other than what he's actually talented at. For ayumi its that she wants to be a philosopher. Also she is the first killer.
Chou's is pretty simple i just took the mask design element more than anything else
and for the right column, Hideaki shares in toko and byakuya's idea that no one can be trusted and that cooperation will not work in monokuma's killing game. Hideaki is also an author like toko and his demeanor is similar to her's as well, but perhaps not as extreme
Rokurou is like gonta in that they are the muscle charas but they have ultimates in STEM rather than a sport like you'd expect. And rokurou is like mikan in that he is a nervous wreck
Junichi was very directly inspired by kirumi, because i love the concept of an ultimate maid, and i think butlers are cool. I wanted to make a character that was what i thought kirumi was going to be when i first played the game. Basically, i wanted a chara who was depended upon too much, and snapped as a result, but in a much more selfish way than kirumi. His motive for murder is very much inspired by celeste (he also wants to be rich and live in a mansion) and he is the ch 3 killer who kills two people.
Once again i borrowed byakuya's snobbishness for kimiko's character. I put the imposter on there as well because kimiko kinda becomes a bit of a leader in ch 1, keeping everyone together and working towards a goal (in her own bossy way) until she becomes the first victim, much like the imposter.
Lastly, ryuuji is a lot like mondo in his mannerisms, but like kazuichi he cracks easily and is a huge wuss.

I found this post on OC introduction/ inspo and figured I can do it for Enya! :D
Nana (Hachi): Hachi is actually one of the biggest inspos for Enya in regards to how she goes about her relationships. Enya is pretty sensitive and empathetic to others around her not to mention really creative. However, because Enya grew up mainly lonely because of bullying and being ostracized, she tends to cling to anyone who gives her the smallest amount of kindness and tends to lose herself in relationships and can be quite the escapist. She can also be easily influenced, especially when it comes to being accepted by her partners which made her very susceptible to manipulation especially with Shoji, her controlling toxic ex. (Coincidentally Enya's ex's name is also Shoji, go figure) She also usually felt giving her body and being desired sexually meant she was deserving of love. Which also was part of the root of her abandonment issues. Shoji of course, made sure to exploit that as much as he can, then after splitting, made sure to slander her, making dating in Ijincho difficult as a whole. Which is easy when you're a popular man with a ton of influence. When it came to Zhao, it was different especially when he noticed it over time and pointed it out assuring her she can be herself and is more than worthy of love whether she was with him or not. And of course, learned to keep her individuality and work on her codependent issues :')
Peach Girl - Momo Adachi: Enya has a good portion of Momo's personality. She's shy, can be rather insecure, and at times pretty stubborn. Not to mention appearance-wise, has a darker complexion. Peach Girl really does cover the struggles of colorism as a whole especially when you can see things from Momo's perspective. Not to mention, Enya is sexualized constantly by her peers, and most of the time no one had a general interest in getting to know her and rather judges her based on how they perceive her appearance. Aside from the social struggles, Enya is quite fashionable just like Momo. Enya is actually quite beautiful, but often she is projected upon by her peers and based on experience fetishized especially once she started casually dating after leaving Shoji. Her being a Hostess didn't help her case either as her step-mom said she might as well work at a soapland based on how she dresses and the fact she was a hostess. Over time, Enya learned to not take these things people say to heart and understood she no longer needs to fight to be accepted by everyone, especially once she joined Ichiban and company on their journey. They accepted her as she is and were interested in getting to know her as a person. Enya also aspires to be a fashion designer and I was really inspired by Momo's fashion as a whole!
Lucky Star- Tsukasa: Enya and Tsukasa's personalities are very identical, With Tsukasa being clumsy, shy, naive, and fairly innocent. In contrast to Tsukasa however, Enya is pretty intelligent as a whole academically at least, when she was in school she made fairly good grades when she tries hard and of course, did not share amazing cooking traits like Tsukasa. But on the other hand much like Tsukasa, Enya can be an airhead and a bit oblivious at times sometimes struggling to read the room especially romantically at first. She's also very calm and quite friendly once you're able to get past her shy exterior.
Berserk- Guts: Aside from the similar white strip in her hair, Enya does take some of Guts' traits. She's rather selfless, loyal, and rather determined. Of course in her early adolescent years, she was far more aloof and cold towards others and was very much a loner. Similarly, both had a difficult childhood much like Guts' she lost her parents at a young age and was adopted by another family. And in contrast but also similar, Guts had a very complicated relationship with Gambino and a better relationship with Shisu who cared for Guts dearly, in Enya's case, her adoptive father Okino is much closer and more tight-knit in comparison to her step-mother Kozumi. who makes her life very difficult out of resentment and wanted to be the first priority in Okino's life. She would make several efforts to get Enya out of the picture. Not to mention Okino dies later and Kozumi put some of the blame on her. Enya struggled with not being accepted and was usually met with harsh gestures by others even if they barely knew her. And seems to fall victim to quite a few unfortunate events at many points in her life. And of course, after these events finds herself very avoidant and pushes others away to avoid having her walls down. While she definitely has not suffered the same amount as Guts, she does share some of his qualities and some hardships throughout her childhood :')

Random Theory on OC creation
While working on some art with my own OCs, as well as making an attempt to work on their lore, I've actually came up with an interesting theory on what OCs are, why they are, and how we give our OCs their personality.
My main theory is that peoples OCs are based off a fragment of their personality, whether it's more surface level like a persons persona, or more subtle like their shadow.
Now in hindsight, this is super obvious for things like, well a persons actual persona/fursona/self-insert character. However, I am talking more about other OCs people can typically have.
In my own case, I have characters like Beta, a robotic rabbit with a big heart, but also not a lot of common sense, a trait that I share. Another OC with a small trait I share is an OC of mine named Ameya, who is an extremely quiet ghost character, me and her both share traits in being eerily quiet in most situations. Finally, a more subtle OC with traits of my personality is a creature I made called Nether Bunny, a massive rabbit like entity that is absolutely coated in giant eyes. This character combines 2 things I have a strange fascination for, that being my very obvious love of rabbit characters, and another weird fascination I have with studying eyes in artwork, or general strange eye imagery in monster or character design.
A person's true self is made up of several fragments and pieces, personalties, and traits. We all have things we love to express with the world, and things we tend to shy away as our shadow. I beleive OCs made can reflect these traits, both in design, personality, or even both at the same time. Even if one does not fully realize it.
If you want to test my theory, take a much closer look at your own OCs if you have any:
Study their personalties
Observe their physical traits
Get into the minds of these characters
Then look within your self and search for connections, no matter how subtle.
This is just an interesting thought I had, hope you all find it interesting, and if you are reading all the way to here, thank you so much for taking the time to actually read everything, I really appreciate it.

details about ocs! // 💯 HUNDRED POINTS SYMBOL — share three random facts about your oc that others may not know (and/or) 🤍 WHITE HEART — what are three of your oc's neutral/questionable traits?
hiii, @oculusxcaro! thank you for your inquiry, i'm just going to get right into it!! so... for this post, i believe i'm going to go for the white heart, as that seems to be calling to me for one reason or another. one neutral trait of bunny masks is that she can sometimes be reckless. for example, she is absolutely the type of spirit to just kind of bust into a place without much forethought because she is so caught up in whatever mission she may be going on at the time — whether that's something like going after a criminal or something like confronting another person who's hurt one of the friends she's made ever since she started walking the earth again — and this can be both a positive and a negative thing. i mean, sometimes it is wise to go into a situation immediately, ready to face conflict but other times? not so much. thus, that is actually something she's been actively working on improving about herself.
and next, i would like to say that she's also very observant. as you can imagine, this has both pros and cons, since it does help her quite a bit with daily life in general; especially considering bunny mask still has some trouble with figuring out all of the social norms of earth and what is viewed as acceptable / what isn't. though, that doesn't mean that she'll automatically conform to what humanity is asking of her. bunny mask is honestly pretty happy with herself most of the time: however, the trauma that she endured after being trapped in a cave for centuries with only occasional periods of respite due to her falling into a hibernation-like state, is something that she's noticed has affected her greatly and causes her to act quote unquote ' unlike herself ' at times. now, this leads me into talking about her third neutral trait and that is her natural curiosity for learning new things, as well as meeting new people.
it has, unfortunately, steered her wrong a few times. like in one instance where she found out that the person she was convinced was the victim of another person's crime was actually the perpetrator... and as you can imagine, bunny mask was not happy with learning that information. they had betrayed her trust, after all, and it was due to her curiosity that she learned this information that was kind of a double-edged sword. bunny mask's curiosity has also led her down the right path as well, though, such as whenever she was interested in tyler severin and decided to surprise him at his home due to her curiosity. little did she know at the time, that if bunny mask had never come there, that he probably would've died. there were people that were aiming on killing him that day that had invaded his home and bunny mask was able to warn him about it just in time. so, bunny technically helped save his life, in a way.
but yeah, that about does it for three traits of hers that are more neutral rather than positive or negative. i hope you liked this discussion of them and i look forward to interacting with you more in the future!

Story Pile: Hazbin Hotel
sigh
so I like this a lot I guess.
It wasn’t like I approached Hazbin Hotel expecting to find a thing I loved. It was something a friend was interested in and I watched it with them because I love them to pieces and it seemed interesting enough. I wasn’t expecting to really enjoy myself so much – in fact my predominant thoughts about Hazbin Hotel prior to that was that it was media made for someone younger than me with a reference pool shallower than mine, an Edgy Cartoon made by someone who bootstrapped their way into heading up an animation studio. Quite frankly, the story to me of how Hazbin Hotel happened was so much more interesting than anything Hazbin Hotel was offering me!
Here’s your line though! This is your Spoiler Warning for a series that’s got hidden information in it (though doesn’t every story), and your Content Warning for a series that’s pretty heavy on cartoon sex references, drug references, and over-the-top violence. It’s pretty funny in terms of what kind of show it is in that okay, aside from more f-bombs than you’d assume and more c-bombs than I’d ever expect, but other than that I don’t feel like it does a lot with its higher rating. Still:
Parental neglect
Drug addiction
Alcohol addiction
Gambling addiction
Sex work
A friendly local neighbourhood serial killer
Hazbin Hotel is a very stealable animated series from Amazon’s animation studio that started its life as a series of speedpaints of weirdo OCs from an artist who then bootstrapped that fanbase into a patreon then that patreon into a kickstarter then that kickstarter into a pilot then that pilot into a pair of series that seems to have legs enough for two or three seasons. One of them, Helluva Boss, I’ll probably talk about at some point in the future because…
I mean, I probably will, but we’re talking about Hazbin Hotel here because Hazbin Hotel is something that got under my skin real fast.
I debated not talking about it in April, in Talen Month, because I after all, have two anime on the roster. I absolutely think that there’s room to call Hazbin Hotel an anime, based on its common visual language and rules it uses for how it presents expressive character language. After all, at the very least, it’s being made by at least one non-white person who probably isn’t being paid as much as she deserves.
Jokes aside, though, Hazbin Hotel is a musical Christian horror animated series set in an American Hell and follows the narrative of Charlee Morningstar, the daughter of Lucifer as she starts up a project for the redemption of damned souls in Hell. The plan is to take people into her Hotel, show them a way to change their life through emotional support, therapy, and trust, and then, stage two question mark question mark question mark, stage three, they go to heaven, redeemed. It follows Charlee as she grapples with the feasibility of her plan — ie, is it possible for a soul in Hell to change — and then the other feasibility of her plan — ie, will Heaven let a soul leave Hell?
And there are songs!
This is a character-driven series. You have to care about the characters to follow them, and I think that all the characters presented have distinct motivations, worldviews, and voices. That last part is a big part of getting into Hazbin Hotel for me because it looks as a series like it was made to suit a particular aesthetic, unified with a colour palette and – I mean, characters almost universally have the same mouth. People – not just the ones in hell – have the big jaggy teeth, and when a bunch of characters share a trait like that it can create a flattening feeling.
I find the characters really different – in fact, somewhat to their detriment, see later! The Hotel has a bunch of characters who are present for their own reasons. It’s fun, too, because narratively, there’s an excuse for why the characters are where they are: It’s a hotel for losers trying to escape Hell, you could have had almost all the cast come for that same central reason and differentiate them for other reasons. In Hazbin Hotel, the cast don’t have that as their motivation – there’s nobody in the cast for as straightforward a reason as ‘I want to do what this Hotel is supposed to do.’
Charlee is there because she believes in the mission, as a way to help people in Hell. Vaggie is there because she believes in her girlfriend. Angel Dust is there to mooch; he sees it as convenient. Husk is there because he’s ordered to. Mimzy is there because she’s been given it as a responsibility. Sir Pentious is there because of a scam. Each of these choices gets transformed through the alchemy of the series into being sincere believers in the mission of the Hotel, and Alastor-
Oh yes.
Alastor.
Phew.
Alastor is a special case. There’s a lot going on with him that I like, from his Old Timey radio voice affect (complete with distortion effect on the track!), to his Arch Serial Killer With Rules vibes, his ‘effortless’ coolness that only works because of how much effort he puts into it, his deeply pagan iconography, his ambitious boiling seething at his limitations, and of course, most importantly of all, how much of a petty shit he is.
Alastor is probably my favourite character if you ignore various image searches for Angel Dust. I like Alastor so much that I’m reasonably confident I’m going to be peeling off things that reference him from his character and imbuing them into other OCs for a few years, like someone making every part of an orange work for a bunch of different meals and even planting the seeds. Alastor is made up of so many, coherently held together things that are my jam that I understand the kind of people who look at a character in media and say ‘it me’ unironically.
And he’s wrong.
One of the things Alastor does in the story, to me, is present the role of the Powerhouse. The Powerhouse isn’t the most important character, they’re not the one going through the most character development. They’re not the one who the story needs to turn to for important emotional responses or themes, because he’s the one who’s there to show up when the story needs power that can be brought to bear on saving or mopping up something someone else did. I love powerhouses, they’re one of my favourite archetypes; let other people take the centre stage, let their choices be the ones that matter, and I will cheer for the one who shows up to save and protect those choices. I have so much fun with Powerhouses, whether they’re the disappointed fixer or the beloved first follower. Alastor is Charlee’s Powerhouse. He’s convinced that when the time comes to fight Adam, he’s going to be able to step up to and meet that and beat it, because he can.
And he’s wrong.
It would be one thing if Alastor could do it! That’d be cool too! It wouldn’t be a bad thing to do. But it’s another thing if all of Alastor’s posing and pushing for power with characters like Lucifer and Adam was based on a very reasonable assumption about his power and the power of his opponents. Because it’s possible to have reasonable assumptions and just not have those assumptions be correct. Alastor carries himself like he’s the scariest man in the world, and he really is for most people who deal with him. It’d be enough for him to merely be amazing.
And he’s wrong.
It’s that wrongness that brings with it the little dash of complexity Hazbin Hotel needed to really excite me. Compexity is how it takes a story set up to make perfectly good, standard interfaces between ideas like ‘what is good and evil’ and ‘how can you live in hell without getting used to hell’ and then take just the slightly less-than-obvious next step in the answers. It involves looking at characters in this fantastic situation and considering them not as inhuman entities shriven of identity, but rather monstrous versions of human entities, with human needs and wants and ideals, and for there to be ways those wants and needs become amplified through the shedding of an idea of hope.
I like how it’s a musical, in that context! It’s full of characters who do something weird and inhuman (sing their feelings in contextually warped fantasy spaces), and then uses that to present very real, very deep truths about who they are, even including things they wouldn’t – or shouldn’t! – say without the song propelling them along.
The songs aren’t all electro-swing numbers, though enough are that I felt pleasantly served. I like electro swing! I like powerful Disney numbers! I like diegetic non-diegetic music! I also like the ways they use the songs for jokes! Multiple songs are interrupted and the interruptions are part of the story! And the complexity of the characters plays out in the songs! Like how Alastor invades a song to be petty, or the moment when Angel Dust realises he’s not going to be ridiculed for joining in a song.
Something I like about song in this genre is when they can stand on their own – when they begin or end cleanly and aren’t interrupted by dialogue from the narrative per se. Like, when the song’s job is part of the story, and the story is not needing to fight the song for its place. The biggest sin of the songs in Hazbin Hotel to me is that a few of them could afford to be longer and more varied – which is to say, hey, I like this, and would like more of it.
I describe it as a Christian Horror series depicting an American Hell. It’s a Heaven and Hell situation in the image of current modern mainstream American Christianity, which is to say, it doesn’t make much sense as presented. Hell in the Bible is not represented as a place with cities and culture, it’s barely presented at all – you get more of a ‘outer darkness’ or ‘neverending burning’ kind of vibe than ‘a city where people can keep doing things that are inappropriate.’
Look also to who gets damned to Hell and why. The complaint about Angel is that he’s a crack whore who burned his original chance. We don’t know what Angel’s life before Hell was like, but his life in Hell appears to be largely pretty harmless; he does drugs, he makes porn. That is to say, he does two things that only negatively affect himself. This doesn’t make sense as an inherent sin or anything but that’s okay because this world doesn’t seem to be one that has any idea about what makes anyone deserve anything; people in hell are present because they are present in hell, and that’s used to tautologically justify their presence there. But people in Hell can love and form bonds and elevate one another and be kind and even have kids –
Unless the kids in hell are there because they died as sinful children, which is okay, that could be what’s happening too.
There’s this book, Only Begotten Daughter, by Jame Murrow. In that book, god has a daughter, with a dude, working at a sperm bank, and she goes on an adventure through various elements of divine life that the Bible presents but doesn’t properly explore. In that book she winds up going to heaven – briefly – and finds to her surprise there are like, four people there; Moses, Jesus, Enoch and Elisha. When she quizzes them about this the response is ‘well, yeah, almost nobody gets into Heaven, it’s just not possible, with all the rules that conflict with one another.’
It’s that kind of heaven that Hazbin Hotel is built around, and it comes with it to show an idea of divine hiddenness. The problem of divine hiddenness is of the seeming contradiction in the idea of a God that exists, is omnipotent and omnisicent, and wants people to believe in him but there are people who sincerely want to and aren’t convinced by what has been presented to them as evidence. How does that work? In Hazbin Hotel, god, as much as they may or may not exist, appears to be abscent. People don’t even talk about them – they refer to powers around them, but no individual who can sort things out.
This god is missing, somehow, in a way that nobody talks about.
All this appeal isn’t to try and imply that Hazbin Hotel is immune to criticism. To laundry list it all that I have problems with is kinda unnecessary, but just off the top of my head, there’s a certain way the story allocates indulgences to specific characters. Any and all sex jokes are going to go through Angel Dust, which means they are going to come across as gay, rather than necessarily bi or pan. The result that seems to come from that is that Vaggie and Charlee despite being girlfriends from day 1 and sleeping in the same bed, seem kinda sexless, because all the Sex Stuff happens through Angel Dust.
In the same vein, this vision of Hell talks about ‘bad things’ but keeps those bad things in a very specific vein, like murder and being a participant in some things. Pornography isn’t bad! Liking your phone isnt bad! The way that the story seems to position these as demonically empowered things on part with, uh, cannibalism, is a little strange, and it feels muddied.
Character design has some samey traits; the lack of noses and the commonality of jagged-tooth mouths mean that some characters can look similar, and worse, make it so that when a character uses that kind of expression it doesn’t necessarily evoke anything but ‘that is a mouth.’ The Vees are set up to be villains for later, but it feels like since one is a rapist and the others are uh, assholes, that maybe there’s going to be a problem keeping those characters in a reasonable space compared to one another.
It also feels like it can run the risk of getting bogged down in lore. I don’t want to watch a 27 minute explainer video on why Lillith must be the demon to whom Alastor is bound. Just – you know, just let the story do what it’s doing and wait until it’s done before you try and dive into the metaphysics of a multiverse, please.
I like Hazbin Hotel. I don’t think I’m supposed to, I’m a very uncool not-even-a-goth. But I like it, and I want to see more of it. And when I have seen more of it, I want to be able to say that I liked what it wound up doing with the character of god.
Which is a pretty tall order, huh?
Check it out on PRESS.exe to see it with images and links!

hello! i know this blog isn't really active, but i agree with a lot of these points. rereading wtcd lately has made me realize how it's not very good? all of the characters who come close to well written are simply brushed off as not interesting (purely because they have subtleties in their character.) and soda's treatment of haiyu, as this blog has made me realize, was really strange. he's the only character that (aside from shoddy writing) felt really.. human? or possible to exist lol? but their active, Active hatred of him when They Created Him felt like they were projecting some kind of real person/situation onto him or the like. it very much felt like the kind of story i'd make when i was 13, just learning what LGBTQIA was, but my god. they were what, 17? 18? with the messages they were trying to send, you'd think they'd know a little better than to make a black character "succumb to their addiction", another black character quite literally be the ultimate thief, another black character have their only personality trait to be protesting... etc etc. but anyways. brb this is now my personal diary for all of my wtcd thoughts reflecting on it
restating for this anon, but im not mod haiyu. im keykite, better known as celest or everett. a lot of the points made on the account were not made by me, but another separate user. i dont 100% agree with all of their points myself, and i encourage you to read through wtcd and form your own opinions, and not just base your thoughts on this account.
wtcd was a poorly written fangan through and through. it ham fisted representation that was very underreseached and poorly handled (ex: the neurodivergent characters. the transfems. the black characters. etc). i dont believe it is a fangan that should be referenced in further fangan creations or put up on a pedestal. but at its core, wtcd was a passion project. it wasnt SUPPOSED to get big. you can tell by the shoddier early writing and the last minute changes nearer to the end of the fangan to try to appease the new fanbase. this doesnt excuse the shitty writing, nor does it make it any less fun to pick apart and analyze, but it does mean theres a certain point where you gotta let stuff die. wtcd isnt a homestuck. its not a harry potter. soda's not profiting off of it or anything like that. its quite literally their shittily written ocs that they made in response to the second installation of danganronpa (sdr2) for fun.
youre entirely free to share your findings with this account, but please remember wtcd is a learning experience, not an ongoing debate.
also, as a quick correction, soda was 16 at the time of wtcd's start. they were 17-18 when it ended to my knowledge.

Late to the party, but rolling up anyway!
How did you decide on the sex and/or gender of your OC? Was it important that it was the same as yours? Or the same as what you personally find attractive? Or did it not make much difference either way? Most of my well-developed OC's are male, while only a few are female, so not very important to play my own sex. I chose mostly male OC's mainly because the person I play with plays mostly females and for some reason we always end up making het (passing) couples.
To what degree is your OC a self-insert? Are they in any way an aspirational version of yourself? Or perhaps a way to explore feelings and behaviours you suppress in yourself? While my characters will always share some personality traits of mine (such as my temper, protectiveness or tendency to hold a grudge), I don't do self inserting. Nor are most of my OC's meant to be aspirational versions of me (there is one, but she doesn't have a XIV backstory, so she's not relevant here). I'm not sure I'm using any of my characters to explore feelings or behaviors I suppress, but maybe I am! Hard to say.
Is it important to you that you "like" your OC (as in consider them likeable)? Or is it more important to create a distinctive character, even if they are unpleasant or evil? I like to give my characters nuance, which means they're not perfect. One of them is straight up racist against most Garleans until late Endwalker, for example. I very definitely have evil OC's, though none of them have yet made it into XIV.
Do what degree did you intend your OC to be canon-compliant? Did you end up sticking to this or did you veer off into unforeseen territory over time? Albert and T'kazi are both WoL's, so they're pretty canon compliant except sometimes they may react differently to situations than you're canonically reacting. Talwin, who is part of Albert's story but not a WoL, is extremely non-canon compliant. Everything in the game is basically stories Albert's telling him from his perspective, because he wasn't there for any of it personally. Most of my other OC's are attached to my friend's WoL's and follow them through the story with varying degrees of canon compliance.
How important is it to you that your OC is attractive? Does that mean attractive to you personally (sexually or just for purposes of playing dress-up!)? Or do you aim to make an OC over which others will inevitably thirst? I make OC's that I personally find attractive, since I want to enjoy looking at them. I do enjoy some dress up with them for the same reason. It's important that how they're dressed in game fits their personalities. Anyone else thirsting over them is incidental.
To what degree do you use the OC creation process as a way of exploring your own strengths and flaws? I'm honestly not sure, since I don't go into the process with that in mind. I just go with what I find interesting, so I suppose if I'm exploring my strengths and flaws, it's on an unconscious level.
Is your OC based upon another character or person? Or aspects of several? Is this just in terms of their appearance? Or also their personality? Most of my OC's in XIV were made specifically for the game and created wholesale, but Albert was originally based physically off a canon character in the game.
Do you create the OC first and then the backstory? Or do you have a backstory lined up and then create an OC that will fit this? The OC shapes the backstory in most cases. I need to have their appearance before their backstory forms.
Have you ever retconned your OC's story or situation? What inspired this? Did you just fancy a change? Or were you bored with them as they were? Or did you regret your decisions on first creating them? Albert got mostly retconned, as he was originally going to be possessed by the canon character his appearance was based on (it still happens, but not as a permanent thing). I can't think of any others who got retconned.
To what extent does your OC function as a mouthpiece for your own views when it comes to describing their opinions or reactions? Do you quite like exploring how someone with very different values to your own might respond to a situation? It's a bit of both. Most of my OC's share at least some of my opinions, but I find it fun to give them moral failings as well and they don't all react the same way to the same situations. They don't all like the same Scions, they don't all respond the same way to the enemies they encounter. I enjoy considering how they feel about the people they encounter.
What is your main focus when creating an OC - making a character for yourself and your own enjoyment? Or do you try to create a character that will be popular with others or attract a lot of attention? My strongest OC's are the ones I have made for my own sake. The only other person they're meant to appeal to is the person who I'm playing that OC with. No one else matters.
How much importance do you attach to humour when creating a character? Are there inevitably comic elements? Or are you more focused upon angst or drama? There is definitely room for fun in my OC's stories, but I almost always give them angst in their backstories. It's more about how their past shapes them. Will they learn compassion or become cold to all but a select few? Do they hate the people who hurt them, or feel pity for them? It's fun to explore that.
Does your OC need to be believable (within the context of the fictional world in which you place them)? Or are you more interested in pushing the boundaries of what you can invent? To really immerse myself into the world, their story needs to make sense in some way. My friend has a character who came from the Resident Evil universe and was plunked into a Miqo'te body on the Source. We made it work, but I don't normally do that kind of cross-franchise transplanting personally. I prefer my characters to actually belong to the world they live in and make sense within its rules.
How do you want other people to view or react to your OC? Organically. I'd prefer my characters be liked unless they're supposed to be hated for some reason, but if I was interacting with someone who played a Garlean while I'm on Albert, I expect them to hate him and they should. I love Albert, but that's a big part of who he is, so he should absolutely be called out for it.
Is there anything you regret about how you designed your OC or their backstory? If I do, I retcon it, like I did with Albert's intended fate when that became a non-idea situation.
Do you have the same OC (broadly speaking) across multiple fandoms or settings? Yes and no. I do have some characters I've pulled through multiple other games and franchises, but they don't have backstories in those games unless it can fit the genre they're originally from. They simply exist without context.
Did you design your OC with a specific aspect of RP in mind? Such as shipping, NSFW things, attending in-game social events, hosting events or entertaining others? I design my OC's with the specific person I'm crafting them for in mind, but I also don't RP in the game. If I did, it would only be with that specific person anyway.
Has anyone ever reacted badly to your OC? Why was this? The most I've gotten is people mocking the name of a character, but since I again don't RP in the game, that's a non-issue.
Do you want other people to become invested in your OC? What would this look like ideally? The only person who should be invested in my OC is the person I made them to interact with.
Is it important to ensure your OC has flaws or negative traits? Or do you try to make an idealised character as far as possible? As I said in an earlier answer; I like to make characters with flaws. Perfect characters who always say the right thing and always make the right choices are boring to me. I want them to mess up and make mistakes. Again I hold up Albert as my prime example of this.
Do you want or enjoy your OC having in-game interactions with other people's characters? Or do you prefer to keep things more distant (like Ask Games on Tumblr!)? Or is your OC private and just for you? I would love to RP in game, but thanks to the person I play the game with, that simply isn't possible. Either way, I like to make my OC's with interaction in mind. If I want an OC just for me, I'll play a single player game.
How do you feel about others making art of your OC or writing about them? Do you feel like you need to vet their creative process? Or does anything go? If anyone did this who wasn't the person the OC was made for, I wouldn't like it. Only my friends should be writing about my OC, because strangers aren't going to understand them. (If I was a published author this would be different, but I'm talking about specially crafted OC's designed for one person in mind)
Was there a location in-game that inspired your OC (like Ishgard or Hingashi etc.)? Albert and T'kazi are Ala Mhigan, and Talwin grew up in Limsa amongst pirates, but otherwise not really. They're shaped more by their jobs for the most part and usually don't come from their starting city.
Was there something in the MSQ or even a side-questline, that inspired you to create them? Perhaps meeting the Sylphs or the Namazu? Or visiting the Unsundered World? Or even something to do with crafting or gathering? Sicard inspired Talwin, my friend inspired Albert. But generally no, I just craft my character to fit theirs.
To what extent does their appearance in game match your vision of them creatively? Are there things you wish you could change about them in this regard? Or possibly do, if you knew of a way to do so... My OC's pretty much look like they do in game.
Do you have a voice claim for your OC? Did you have this before you did anything else? Or did you decide on it later? I am the voice claim for my characters in spite of usually being the opposite sex. (Hello, aspiring voice actor :P)
Which OCs that are not yours do you most admire? What is it about that character that you find impressive or engaging? I really enjoy my friend Ein's character Ainsveil. The character has a very deeply thought out backstory, if extremely dark. Perhaps that's part of it; he was willing to give her an extremely painful and difficult past for them to overcome traveling all the way back to their Ancient.
To what extent have other people's OC influenced your own? Perhaps in the sense of inspiring your ideas? Or giving you "permission" to create a character you might not otherwise have done? Perhaps a lore-breaking one, or an overtly sexy one, or a self-insert, or a villainous one etc? As far as XIV goes, the 'inspiration' is my friend's character and we build their stories together.
What do you try to avoid when creating an OC? Are these things you dislike in other people's OCs? Or purely your own personal preference? I think I avoid things most people do when making characters they don't want to be villains.
What is your favourite thing about your OC or OCs? Is there something about them of which you are particularly proud? I enjoy Albert's general personality and how it makes sense for him and his girlfriend to be extremely co-dependent on one another and how he tends to panic when he doesn't know where she is. (Personally I find it annoying how my friend insists on constantly reinforcing this trait, but I guess it's a fun mental exercise to do so)
To what extent does it matter that you are being "original" when you create an OC? Or is it OK to base them on an existing character or celebrity, so long as you enjoy it? I have often taken inspiration from canon characters to make my OC's. Albert for instance takes his optimism (and stupidity) from Zack Fair of Crisis Core fame. Talwin is inspired loosely by Sicard even though he has an Australian rather than Cockney accent.
If you're stuck for ideas when creating an OC, what do you do to inspire yourself? (if you never have this problem, then what would you advise to someone that did!) I've been stuck many times, and forcing it tends to end badly. When I need inspiration and my friend isn't able to supply any, I go back to basics. I consider other OC's to see if I can borrow from them, or from characters I like. Being very familiar with the XIV lore, I also have the advantage of being able to use that as a building block. But basically it's good to start simple. Where are they from? Limsa? How do they feel about the persistent smell of fish and salt? Do they like to watch the ships come in? Are they from Gridania? Do they love the forest? Did they play amongst the trees growing up? Ul'dah? Are they actually from the city, or are they Ala Mhigan? Are they homeless, do they have employment? How do they feel about the Monetarists?
Is there an OC you would love to create in-game, but currently you are unable to do so, perhaps because that race is not playable or that sex is unavailable (hello female Hrothgar)? My friend is waiting impatiently for female Hrothgar as they already have an OC planned for that day. I have a voidsent who possessed his would-be master. I would probably enjoy making a Garlean OC if I could canonically do so, even though that would obviously limit my class options.
How many OCs do you currently have? If you have multiple OCs then how different are they from each other? How often do you create new ones? 16 OC's in XIV. The vast majority of them are Viera, but their experiences are all different. I make OC's when the person I play with makes one since I don't like to play on my own.
What things do you most want to see in someone's OC? Or what do you always find the most interesting? Or stimulating, if you're in that sort of mood? I don't know, honestly. Independence? Considering my friend tends to make extremely clingy OC's, I'd definitely enjoy less of that. I like good, unique backstories. Stories not dependent on the other character, but that weave them into it when they meet.
Little OC Creation Ask List

I am trying to help a friend with their creative block around creating a FFXIV OC. So I thought I might try putting together a quick Ask List on the topic and maybe they would find people's responses helpful. Also it might be interesting to learn about how people approach the creative process!
How did you decide on the sex and/or gender of your OC? Was it important that it was the same as yours? Or the same as what you personally find attractive? Or did it not make much difference either way?
To what degree is your OC a self-insert? Are they in any way an aspirational version of yourself? Or perhaps a way to explore feelings and behaviours you suppress in yourself?
