Okay but real talk I kind of lowkey LOVED the Dangerous Liaisons (2022) show by Starz and I honestly have no idea what that says about me as a person (other than I love smutty fanfiction, for that show was absolutely and shamelessly an E-rated AU canon-divergence fanfiction of a beloved Indictment Of The French Aristocracy.)

#dangerous liaisons #les liaisons dangereuses #dangerous liaisons 2022 #I've seen some VERY harsh crit of the show and while I understand where they are coming from #It was a really good production???#like I get it #I get that their characterization and backstory for Valmont and the Marqueise de Mertueil effectively fucks with the themes #and the characterization of the source text #and turns one-dimensional villians who are that way by necessity of said themes into sympathetic antiheroes #but that's the tension and the tragedy of it - knowing that these sympathetic characters will become #cruel villainous and chaotic forces that make a mockery of humanity #and if you just put on your objectivity glasses for ONE SECOND #yes its clearly fanfiction and is best consumed with the full knowledge that it is a transformative work!#also the sex scenes are dope

Am I the only one who thinks The Secret History would be way more interesting as a stage play than a movie? It could be put on in the same style as a Greek tragedy, taking inspiration from ancient performances. Or there could be constant rotating sets and backgrounds, but the mountains and the cliffs always being present onstage, reminding us that what no matter what Richard is telling us, and no matter how much Richard and the Greek class try to rationalize it, they will always be haunted by what they have done. THINK ABOUT HOW THE BACCHANAL COULD BE SHOWN

#I feel like the setting and theatrics would be a cool way to show the aesthetic that Richard is chasing throughout the story #the stage is such a good medium for showing isolation and connecting with the audience on an intimate level #Richard’s narration would really shine with something like that #plus it would be the closest anyone could come to a Henry winter approved production #people could get so creative and I would kill to see it #the secret history #donna tartt #tsh #my posts
