Objects age. They earn marks and cracks, their colours fade over time, they yellow and lose that pristine look they had when they were new.

This slowly happens to the chars on II. For a while it's unnoticable, but they can't be revived brand new anymore so they change. Slow, but they change over the years.

Paintbrushes bristles become a bit chaotic, they stick out at angles and they gave up trying to fix it years ago. Suitcase's colours fade. OJ earns little marks and chips in his glass. Characters like the cherries and Apple don't rot but their leaves wilt. Evidence of life, I guess. They finally get to actually live.

Of course, Knife never changes. While the gold of suitcase has faded more into a colour of sand there are no dents in Knife's metal. No scratches on the handle. That's it for him. He doesn't know how to feel about it.

Imagine if, when the other objects eventually die from wear and tear they’ve gained over the years, they didn’t become ghosts. Imagine if Suitcase passed away, years after the finale, and Knife was forced to continue on by himself. Imagine if Marshmallow and Apple eventually rotted away, leaving Bow all by herself. Imagine if one by one, they watched their friends die, but they weren’t able to move on, forever stuck between life and death.

How long do you think they’d last? When would Paper and Knife finally rewatch Desperate Housewives one last time before Paper succumbed to the weakness of his age and finally tore apart? How long would it take for Mephone4 and Mephone3GS to eventually crack and break for good, joining Mepad in whatever afterlife machines go to? How long would Knife, Bow, and Dough just sit there watching as generations pass.

Eventually Bot would pass away as well, the last living ii contestant. Eventually Purgatory Mansion would be forgotten about. Would the ghosts find a way to pass on and finally join their loved ones in the afterlife? Or would they be forced to watch for hundreds of thousands of millions of years, as everything and everyone they love is torn away?
