Y'know I think I'm starting to truly understand the kids who just didn't do anything in class during middle and high school. As someone who used to be a gifted kid and never really got it. Fucking hell

Ive hit 4K and taking a break to eat. Have another Vik x reader smut snippet while I wait for more coffee to brew (its only midnight). On that 2nd cup and my drink isn't the only thing getting steamy.
Part 3 is already being outlined and I'm thinking Heimerdinger's lab or Hoskels house 🤭
Part 1 Here
“In.” His thumb started to stroke between my shoulder blades as his breath fanned the side of my face, voice a low thrum in my ear. My breath hitched as I felt myself gravitate toward him, eyeing him from the corners of my vision. My heart starting to make its nervous ascent up my throat again. “What?” “It’s incautious.” His corrected with a self-satisfied smile, delighting in my surprise as his hand shifted up to thumb at the cord wrapping around my neck to hold up the front of my dress. He played with it, running the finger along the stack, his hand resting at the base of my neck. Holding me gently as he guided me away from the increasingly crowded table, deliberately closing any lingering distance between us as our sides came together. “How do you say…” We were so close he only needed to murmur, “The student becomes the master.” A rush of heat coursed through me, breath hitching in my throat. The cord around my neck felt suddenly too tight, and I weakly pulled with it in search of relief. His thumb slid under the cords in response, relieving some of the pressure from the back. Simultaneously, pulling them into my throat, the contrast made my insides twist and flutter. Did he know just what he was doing? “Viktor—"

The biggest recommendation I can give on writing dialogue that sounds in character for the character to say is, not to read the quests they are in, but to listen to the English dub whenever you get the chance. This may seem difficult especially if you are used to playing it in another language, but listening is key to getting the vibe of a character down. What you pay attention to is, not what they say, but the cadence in which they say it. Pay attention to the emotion in their voice, the speed at which they say things, the volume, etc. Once you get this down, it becomes easier to get an idea of what “sounds” right and what doesn’t. Cadence is an especially powerful thing. By training your ears to a character’s cadence, you can get a better idea of which words they would prefer to use, the lengths of their sentences, and things of the sort.
For example, reader asks Zhongli to dinner and he accepts. How would he respond? “Hmm, I’m not busy this evening, so I accept. Thank you for the invitation.” But that doesn’t sound right, does it? Is Zhongli the type of person that uses many contractions? I don’t think so, so let’s fix it. “Hmm, I am not busy this evening, so I accept. Thank you for the invitation.” But would he say “I accept?” Perhaps, but it still doesn’t sound right. How has he accepted proposals in the past? A bit of research shows he has said “sure.” How can I mix that in? “Hmm, I’m not busy this evening, so sure. Thank you for the invitation.” But hmm… the second sentence doesn’t sound right. What else could he say instead? “Hmm, I’m not busy this evening, so sure. It would be my pleasure.” That sounds a lot better.
Some people may ask why you can’t do these things while listening to another language. Personally, I don’t believe you can. If you are not fluent in those other languages, your ears are not properly trained enough to understand the nuance of the ways they speak. The correct emotion and tone will come through, yes, but you still won’t be able to intuitively know what sounds right and what does not. You only will get this sense by listening to it in the language you choose to write in.
The only downside to this is that your writing will become based upon the English translation of the game. As many people know, the portrayal of characters in English often does not completely match the portrayals in Chinese. This is especially so for characters like Zhongli, Xiao, and Kaeya. A lot is lost in the translation and dubbing process. Characters do not vibe the same. Thus, your portrayals will be more true to English, but not how it technically is “supposed” to be. Personally, I don’t necessarily believe this is a bad thing. However, it is something that can bother people. The only way I can imagine getting around it is by playing the game with the Chinese dub and by following accounts that speak Chinese and can give insight on the literal translations and what they mean and imply.

Alcina, after putting her daughters to bed, would dress up as Santa and discreetly place the many many presents she got her bug spawns under the tree in the main hall knowing that there would at least be three different curious flies keeping an eye on their yearly visitor.
And sure enough, after leaving, she can easily detect the three out of bed and down in the main hall examining the boxes and wondering what they got this time around.

This isn't related to anything but since we're talking victors and stuff. Do you have any headcanons for how the Games are taught to future generations post canon? I've never found any meta or fic that addresses it but it's something I think about.
i’ve actually thought about this before. it seems like such an interesting topic and yet i never see anything about it.
i think that in like sixth-seventh grade, the majority of history class for students is entirely about the Games. it’s more of an overview than anything else, and it doesn’t go in depth into every single victor, usually just focusing on the specific district’s victors and the ones who survived the rebellion.
the curriculum typically goes like this:
Pre-Games
The Dark Days/The First Rebellion — focuses on how the specific district dealt with the DD; typically a section that focuses on the Capitol.
How the War Ended/District Thirteen
The Treaty of Treason/The Rules of the Hunger Games
First Ten
Overview — focuses on the arena and how primitive the Games were at this time
The Tenth Hunger Games — i think that after the second rebellion, there was a copy (or the only copy, since gaul says there is now only one at the end of ballad) of the 10th that someone found. now it’s a part of history due to being a huge turning point of the Games.
this is where the curriculum usually goes in two separate directions—either the units are split into quarter quell segments (11th-25th, 26th-50th, 51st-75th) or it’s separated into decades (the tens (11th-19th), twenties (20th-29th, thirties (30th-39th) so on, so forth).
then there’s a separate unit about the 75th, the build-up in the districts and the rebellion beginning to start, along with all of the reapings. it’s the only hunger games that all of the districts are required to show the entirety of.
after that, the rest of the time is focused on the second rebellion and the victors. the victors unit can vary—at that age, it only focuses on the victors of the specific district’s victors, so the career districts need more time because they have noticeably more victors that other districts. usually they play the edited games that they showed to the victors during their interview so that no one has to watch two-three weeks worth of footage of children killing each other.
there is an option to study more deeply into the history of the hunger games in panem, since after the second rebellion, higher education is much more readily available. citizens have the option to major in history and become historians for sections of history, just like today.
there are also a lot of books and various stuff about the hunger games. like i hc that plutarch writes an entire series about his family’s history with the Games and their experiences as gamemakers.
thank you for the ask!! i’m so sorry that it took me a second to respond, but i hope you enjoy regardless 💗💗

not to be annoying or anything but it's been 9 years since the release of indie game undertale
#It's. One of my special interests#Like I have identifying Mediterranean animals on sight and I have memorizing every line of dialog in undertale#Those are my things. And I did recognize a seagul once by the sound while jetlagged and not paying attention so#Tbh I should probably play the game sometime. But also it'd be very funny to not play it#And then one day just like. Idk. Live stream playing undertale for the first time. But doing it w a blindfold#Check how far my knowledge spans for a person who has never once played the game#Like. I know muffets attacks are a repeating pattern. I know some attacks have audio so I'd use that as a guide#I'd go easy route on toriel and papyrus bc I know you can skip those by being bad at game#And I'm pretty sure I could memorize mad dummy patterns bc I remember there being like. A trick in the code#For if you're bad at the fight#Also you get astro food right before so I'd have good healing#So. Yeah the undyne and asgore and omega flowey fights are really the only things I have to watch out for I think??#Esp since I'm gonna do a bunch of tricks to get out of certain fights#Like. The thing with doing armor switches rapidly on mettaton for fast ratings boosts#Or the lowering of hp on mad dummy after the first hit so the fight can't last beyond a set number of turns if you're shit at it#Tbh yeah undyne is the only one that's actually scary all the way until asgore. That said I also think you can like. Skip that bit entirely#Like by backtracking before new home to get the undyne letter and doing true lab first. I think#Because that's the bit that's the true pacifist thing to do. Which actually true lab also scary#Like ok snowys mom and endogeny are easy but lemon bread and the memory heads are actually hard esp if u cant see#Also reaper bird but only after the everyman gets ate by the whimsun attack flies so I'm not super duper scared#And. I plan on temmie armor after mettaton. And bandage until then for running away from encounters#Just straight up my first time playing the game will be with a blindfold on and livestreamed#(I'd flex especially in that one echo flower room where if you kill toriel flowey taunts you with it)#But until then! Happy 9 years of being extremely neurodivergent :D

JUST WATCHED THE ENTIRE FALLOUT SHOW IN ONE SITTING AND I GET TO THE END AND THEY STRAIGHT UP SHOW NEW VEGAS?!!?????
IM GENUINELY TWEAKING AND LOSING MY MIND WHAT!!!!! THE END CARD WITH THE LUCKY 38??? THE TOPS??? ALL THE SECURITRONS???
Maybe other people knew this- maybe it was said somewhere they were gonna do New Vegas stuff- but I went in totally blind and had like 0 expectations that this show was going to directly reference another game.
Like I straight up though this show would stick to its own thing since it didn’t seem like it was adapting any part of the previous games.
SO WHEN I TELL YOU I SCREAMED WHEN NEW VEGAS POPPED UP-
Im not a devout follower of the Fallout Timeline lore- so all this talk about the show retconning NV makes no sense to me and I don’t care about it- ITS NEW VEGAS!!!! WITH THE COOL CASINOS AND MR HOUSE AND STUFF!!! ALL GOING TO BE SHOWN IRL IF WE GET ANOTHER SEASON!!! WHY IS NO ONE FREAKING OUT ABOUT THIS!!!

Reading hunger games for the first time while already knowing how everything ends is a weird mix because it’s like oh yeah there’s a Finnick guy who dies right? And then spend 2 min with him and go oh no the Finnick guy is going to die!!!

Emiya did NOT wear a DOG COLLAR in that ccc art for you all to act like he is not the world's most excellent service switch. Quetz is a goddess you think anyone's ever asked her to for head? Conversely Emiya consistently shows pure devotion and care to all his masters AND he remembers his past summonings so you KNOW he has experience. Vote Emiya for that gluck gluck mind twisting bad bitch pulling head TODAY.

Outside of Lee Seolhwa and Lee Sookyung, do you have plans for any other character outside of Kim Dokja’s primary companions (like Gong Pildu or Han Doonghoon) for your soulmate fanfiction? Constellations like Persephone or Uriel or Sun Wukong probably wouldn’t make sense to exist in real life but maybe characters such as Han Myungoh/Han Dareum or Jang Hayoung could fit? If I recall correctly, Jang Hayoung in particular is the one responsible for the title of the fanfiction, right? I feel like she alongside the Unidentifiable Wall and the Fourth Wall would be so thematically appropriate but I couldn’t imagine how you would do it if at all. I also want to say that I’m impressed how you managed to seamlessly incorporate so many references to the original ORV into your work. It must have required you to reread and recheck the wiki.
Yess, I'm glad you asked this anon bc literally I just threw in a little reference to Han Doonghoon and Lee Sungkook in the 4.4 update and got worried people would think they had to remember the characters well to understand the surrounding plot point better than Kim Dokja does. But I think I should trust the reader a bit more lol.
Unfortunately my inclusion of Aileen and Jang Hayoung isn't going to be as big as the other kdjco members, but they're sort of already set up in the fic and have a role in chap 5. I think JHY doesn't appear directly bc to me the relationship between her and KDJ is harder to make 'real,' though I have some ideas depending on how much I decide to include in chap 5. In my plans 5 will have a gaming tourney featured, so other big 'wos players' may be referenced further there as well.
Of course like you mention the fic title and many of the chapter titles are coming directly from the mouth of Jang Hayoung, so in that way she is constantly being referenced, haha.
Han Myungoh and his daughter are referenced earlier in Chapter 4. It's sort of a drive by.
I do make use of the wiki (bless the editorsn🙏), though mostly just to check dates, numbers, and spellings of names. I like to think of myself as someone with a pretty decent memory tho, so a lot of the more specific story references are definitely just me pulling in stuff I remember from my novel read throughs. Like I might have to look at the wiki to remember Han Dareum's name, but I'll never forget Han Myungoh's entire Male Pregnancy that he had like that was a crazy random W to me on my first ORV read through I was like hello??? Also that being around when JHY was being confirmed trans haha. I think I was only out for like a year or so before reading orv so the little gender fucky moments really stuck out to me.
Sometimes rereading my old work I also remember things I forgot happened in ORV. I think part of the reason I'm struggling so much with chap 4 and onward is that now that the wall fic characters have sort of developed to where they are some of the scenes I had in mind are less 1 to 1 with the OG. For instance, I'm trying to rewrite a scene I have of YJH and KDJ having a rooftop chat that like parallels the one back before the seoul's strongest incarnation arc in the novel, but it's a bit difficult. At first I wanted to include a lot more of KDJ interacting with the rest of YJH's team, but the rooftop Scene makes more sense to put a cap on the themes explored in chap 4. But when I first wrote this scene it was less specifically addressing that theme, because it was in the outline of like right after I wrote chapter 1, so it was kind of just the OG ORV scene with the flavoring of my AU on top. A lot of the little things they do and say in the OG novel would have to be quite finagled to fit anymore, so reworking it is the big task rn.
Anyway I'm really appreciative of people like you who take note of these small details <3. it's kind of helping me remember and appreciate a lot of the parts of me that were behind a lot of Wall fic originally if that makes sense? I am like reintroducing myself to him and giving him a hug instead of running away cringing just because it's me lol.
