This little girl came up to me and my coworker where we were chatting with a 3rd grade boy and she went "I fell and banged my knee," and my coworker was like "Oh no, do you need an ice pack?" And the girl went "No," and just turned around and walked away. The 3rd grade boy with us says "What was that? Why would she even tell you, she's just complaining?" So I said "You know Quinton, sometimes people just want you to listen. They don't need you to try to fix everything. They just want you to listen."

This kid was dISGUSTED, I tell you. He made the rudest face ever, and he said "That's so stupid," and walked away. I thought of Neteyam. This is what he thinks as well.

also NEYTIRI BEING LIKE JAKE'S CAREGIVER IS MY FAV MODERN AU HEADCANON OKAY. BECAUSE I LOVE LOVE THE IDEA OF THEM TRAVELING THE WORLD TO DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN JUST TO PROVE TO JAKE THAT HE CAN. JEYTIRI JOCKS ARE LITERALLY ALWAYS DOING SOMETHING CRAZY AND NEYTIRI IS IN THE BACK HIGHLY TRAINED TO HANDLE IT.

Consider this, twins Lo'ak and Kiri always make wheelchair jokes at Jake on a foster kids first night, and Jake pretends to be extremely over the top offended. This is their way to haze the new foster, and they do it for like a whole day until Neteyam or Neytiri catch them.

Neteyam babytalking Spider has to be a kink for one of them, this is terrible what you've done here. You need to stop saying things in fic that result in me accusing you of giving a character a kink. First Spider's praise kink now this.

- this one has been in my head forever. Spider has a septum piercing, 100%. He does all his piercings by himself in someone’s basement with the most unhygienic needles known to man and it’s a miracle and a testament to his rock hard immune system that his ears haven’t fallen off. He and Neteyam begin to bond when Neteyam (who has to try to break out of perfect first son mold) asks him to pierce his nose

- projecting here, but Neteyam is a pottery guy. He’s on the debate team and quite frankly he’s insufferable and stupid smart, but in his downtime he goes to the local ceramics studio and goes on the wheel and makes things.

- spider’s a foster kid, which inherently comes with so much trauma and problems but one of his biggest unseen ones is he’s always living life with one foot out the door

- Neteyam’s damage is absolutely his insane, balls off the wall self-management and the expectations he has for himself. He’s incredibly uptight but not in a good way, he’s just incapable of relaxing. A chronic fixer, always looking for solutions to every single persons problem

- in this AU, Neytiri is gods gift to mankind. She met Jake before he become paralyzed, and stuck through with him and practically got a second degree in nursing (her first was geophysics, our educated queen) while learning how to help

- the Sully’s begin fostering when Lo’ak and Kiri turn seven (yes, they are twins again. You can pry twins Lo’ak and Kiri out of my cold dead hands) and stop for a while after Tuk is born. They see many different sorts of children and Neytiri, who works from home, becomes AMAZING at reading kids

- Jake is the Dad ever. He’s so good. There’s something inherently soothing about his presence, and he’s a tiny bit gruff sometimes, but only on bad pain days. Otherwise, he’s instrumental to showing a bunch of kids that fathers and men could be good people. He plays with little kids and teenager fosters alike, and he religiously talks with Neytiri to find out what each kid needs

- once neteyam hits 15, he starts helping out with the younger fosters as well, as a big brother figure. Tuk teaches him a lot, so he’s able to tune in to the soft and mushy gushy part of himself to hang out with children

- he tries to employ some of these techniques with Spider, since he forgets to turn that part of himself off, and Spider thinks he’s literally insane

- Like Neteyam will slip into like baby-talk while Spider’s in the room and they make horrible, split second eye contact

- They know each other from school, and Spider used to be a grade above until he failed a year and had to repeat a year. He n Neteyam are seniors at the local high school, but run in drastically different circles

- spider is a massive loner, with like a diehard bestie who’s probably a bit of an addict or a fellow foster kid and Neteyam’s got fake friends galore, in the most stereotypical high school way. They had one project together in some English class way back when and it’s Neteyam’s only memory of Spider, but they were like 12 and Spider is drastically different now, and Neteyam can’t really reconcile with that

Hell Pride University 2: Charlie & Vaggie

Charlie: (unlocking the door to her dorm room, her workout clothes are slick with sweat and rain, cheeks flushed, and out of breath) Thanks again for *pant-pant* helping me out with my stamina and *huff-puff* endurance, Vaggie. I appreciate it.

Vaggie: (drops her soaked duffle bag off on the floor) No worries, Char. Thanks for letting me stay over while the storm passes o- (glances at the dorm) -ooooooh....

-The dorm has a queen sized bed, desk, full closet wardrobe, desk, and is twice if not three times larger than the regular dorms. Kitchenette stands in the corner with a personal shower and bathroom. Razzle and Dazzle are passed out in their oversized dog bed that's too big for them both-

Vaggie: ....Charlie.... why is your dorm room so huge?

Charlie: Oh! Uh! (pulls a spare set of sweat pants and hoodie out of her closet and passes it to Vaggie along with a clean towel) You know..... My dad's the dean of the college.

Vaggie: (takes the clothes and towel) .....And.... that gives you a damn near hotel suite for a dorm?

Charlie: (sweating and blushing) Would.... you believe me if I said I was the Hall Director and lived here full-time?

Vaggie: (jaw drops) Don't you need a master's degree for that? .....Wait.... That's a full-time JOB!!!

Charlie: Well... (pokes fingers together) I'm working on my graduate degree... so... my dad may or may not have pulled a few strings to get me the job....

Vaggie: YOU'RE GETTING YOUR MASTERS AND YOU WORK HERE?!?!?!

Charlie: Vaggie, it's not that bad!

Vaggie: I just thought you were late to going to school like me! How old even are you?!

Charlie: (mumbles and looks away bashfully)

Charlie: ......almost thirty.....

Vaggie: THIRTY?!?!?! I'm twenty-four!!!

i have absolutely no filter in one very specific area, which is that if someone smells good i always tell them immediately and with great enthusiasm. unfortunately this has led many people to think i was hitting on them when actually i just really like smells. apparently i can come across as incredibly forward to people, but only that subset of people who smell really really good. if you smell normal we will probably have a regular time.

you asked somewhere if in europe we can only buy 12 ibuprofen at a time. no idea where you've heard it, but nah, regular strenght ibuprofen is unlimited, you can get in in a supermarket next to chewing gum and condoms, nobody checks how much you buy

ah okay, so, based on this response + these tags on a reblog (h/t @formula-dumb):

i'm surmising the following: that ibuprofen is sold in small packs but there is no limit to how many packs you can buy. is that perhaps the case?

mostly what i was going off of was oral anecdotes of europeans coming to usamerica and being sort of shocked that you can pluck a bottle of 1,000 ibuprofen in one single bottle off the shelf in a regular grocery store. actually the only time i've seen it come in quantities of less than 50 are when it's a 2-ibuprofen-in-a-foil-pack at a gas station or something. by and large, most people here are probably buying single bottles of 100+ ibuprofen when they go to the store for it. and i think it's the per unit quantity specifically that raised eyebrows.

that said obviously europe is not a monolith and maybe it varies country by country! i think the point is just that other governments have drug agencies that view ibuprofen as something that should be a lil more controlled than it is here. here, amazon has vending machines with free ibuprofen on its warehouse floor so workers will just keep working themselves past pain, for example. ☠️

fucked up thing about getting older is that the age range I'd consider to be functionally the same age as me widens in both directions (I'm approaching 27 and don't feel particularly different from 23 and I don't expect to have utterly changed as a person by 35 either) but then somebody I think of as basically my age talks about their formative middle school media that I remember from college and I feel my skin begin to sag. or the opposite happens and I think huh well maybe I did just get born a minute ago.
