If you’re looking to commission an artist, read this first.

Hey, I’m Snell, commission art is literally my whole income. I’m here to tell you what sorts of commissions I like getting, and why I prefer those, because this will make working with a commission artist easier for you.

People with good attitudes. “Hey, my budget is $50, so please don’t go over that limit when sending me options.” is way more interesting to me as someone who has options in that budget than “DO NOT GO OVER MY BUDGET.” I do not work at burger king. You only get it your way if you’re treating me like a person.

People with references. Fun fact, finding a reference for the specific type of armor you want your character to use takes time and effort. If you have a horrible sketch, a photo reference, a pinterest board, or even better: a ref sheet, people will love you coming back to them.

People who ask for changes before it’s too late. The artist wants you to enjoy your finished piece, and anyone who does this regularly will send you little updates to squeal over. They want you to like it, so don’t be afraid to mention making someone chubbier, or making someone’s pose a little different.

People that have fun concepts. I promise that youre silly little idea for your oc picking apples only to find some magic golden apple much to the surprise of your other oc who knows it’s special is not too complicated! If you have a fun idea for a character or a cute idea for them to be doing, please let your artist know!

People who gush about the art after. It’s very encouraging for the person to respond when getting the art they purchased. I love seeing people showing stuff off on social media (in fact, I’ve started a new thing to make showing off emotes easier for people just for this.) It’s great to see what art is used for and how people enjoy it.

Basic gist is to be polite and considerate of your artist. We are here to make pretty things for you, but we’re also people!

I see a lot of asks going to artists asking how they pick their colours and the answer is always "idk just do, try different colours until it feels right" and I'm sitting in on tech in a theatre rn and we just spent 5 minutes trying different colours of light on a white skirt suspended from the grid ranging from dark violet to bright orange to blinding fuschia to soft peach and its really striking me how just trying shit until it feels right is so universal in the arts no matter the medium and no matter the level of experience and like you really often don't feel like you're doing art "right" until you've connected with other artists and realize it's all being made up all the time in every different way

wanted to share a few progress things... i went into this with just about zero animation knowledge/software, and the easiest way of doing everything ended up being just copypasting+moving each individual frame around in a folder on my laptop until things were mostly fine (aside from some timing), and then uploading them to a gifmaking website.  did a lot of tests beforehand (shown above) to make sure each individual bit of animation would end up fine, too!

Time for another handy dandy guide for your move to Tumblr! This time: The Queue

The queue is an incredibly useful tool that makes sharing your content and content from other blogs you enjoy with your following! Need to boost a post that wasn't seen? Want to share a BUNCH of art from an artist you discovered but not fill the dashboard with a lot of the same thing? Just want your shitposts to be seen over and over? The queue is the tool you're looking for!

Setting Up Your Queue:

Go to your Account settings and find the blog you wish to queue posts in. For your main blog, you should be able to click QUEUE from the settings straight from the menu, but for others you'll have to click the blog and click "Queue"

There will be a settings at the top of your queue, here you can set how many posts that post at once, how often, and during what times of day the posts will show up.

You can also shuffle your queue so if you want a mix of your own content and other people's stuff. That way a whole day doesn't go by without any of your own stuff showing up.

Once you choose them they will stay that way when you leave. But in order for it to work, you have to queue things!

Posting to the Queue:

So you have things set up now, all you have to do is queue stuff. To queue a post you're making or reblogging, go down to the bottom of the post, select the arrow beside "Post now" and choose "Add to Queue"

And then your set! Personally I like to reblog posts I make into the queue so people who were not up at 4am or so can see them, but anything you want to do works!

New Account!

Hi! This is my new art account! I previously could be found at @lonelycuppycake, but it's time for a fresh start. I hope you will join me here! I'm excited to share what I've been working on. :)

Some info about me before I begin reposting some of my art! ↓

I am a 20 year old queer college student, working mostly with digital art and printmaking (although I expect printmaking will slow down once I graduate). Most of my prints are screenprint and linocut relief prints.

A large portion of my work is focused on things I enjoy watching, reading, and playing, but I also have been making artwork about my experiences and struggles with mental illness. Certain things may be triggering, but I will do my absolute best to tag things appropriately. Please feel free to reach out if I tag something incorrectly.

Commissions are not currently open, but I am expecting to open them for the first time ever in late May! If you're interested, keep your eyes peeled for my announcement post!
