The downside of my Applemedia week fic being Roseverse related is that it is only going to be accessible to like twenty people so it seems pointless to bill it as an applemedia week fic because there is NO WAY to write it without all that set-up WHICH IS FINE. If I wanna play in my AU, I can do it, but there is always that mortifying feeling of being too deep in my AU cups and just looking like a weird little freak too invested in HER off-shoot canon to write things that don’t have a million words of set-up.

Bruce Wayne was never Batman.

So! The night that Bruce Wayne's parents got shot, he developed an Unbreakable Resolve. He needed to get rid of the Crime that had taken his Parents away from him, no matter what.

But that night, he also developed a deep-seated fear of Death. He was face to face with his own Demise and instead of dying himself he saw his Parents die instead. He was Terrified of ending up like them.

But he still needed to stop Crime. He couldn't just let criminals go unpunished, and while he was still using his wealth to try and prevent it before it began, he knew there needed to be something to stop crime After it had been committed. And the Cops were useless on that Front.

He eventually found a solution while looking through his Parents Family Heirlooms.

Ancient Books dating back to the founding of Gotham and even before then, telling of a Creature from another world who his Ancestors had helped in the Past. A Being of Fear and Shadow, who owed a debt to the Wayne Family. He needed that Being. A Monster of Shadows and Fear was exactly the answer to scaring criminals away from committing crimes and punishing those who did.

But he needed to find the Being from another world first.

So he left home, traveling across the Globe training with the best Magicians and Demonologists in the world in search of the Monster who owed his Family a Debt. His travels took him far, from the streets of LA where he met a man named Zatara, to the Snowy Mountains of Nanda Parbat where he learned of the Lazarus Pits and the Demon's that came out of them.

While studying the Lazarus Pits, he was trained by the organization who guarded them. They despised Weakness, and while their leader was in awe of his Intelect he was less impressed by his body's conditioning. If he was to study the Lazarus Pits, he would first have to earn the Right in Combat.

He eventually managed to pass their Tests and eventually left them, having handed over a Copy of his research as the price for being allowed to Study the Pits.

Years later, he finally returned to Gotham, fully equipped to Summon the Being that owed him a Debt.

Bruce drew up the Summoning Circle as perfectly as he possibly could, he had one shot at it.

A drop of his blood and a splash of Lazarus Water later, and the Circle began to glow an ominous Green. Slowing, a shifting shadow began to emerge from the Circle, at first only a mass of writhing darkness before their form Solidified.

The Books he had found on the Spirit said that it would take the form of the Summoners Greatest Fear, which just so happened to be Bats for Bruce. The Form that the Spirit chose reflected that, with large Dark Wings falling over their form as if they were a Cape, and horns looking like the Ears of a Bat. From the Darkness, two glowing eyes appeared.

"Spirit, hear me. My name if Bruce Wayne, and I am calling in the Debt owed to my Family centuries ago. My City is plagued with crime and malice, rotting from its Core. My efforts to prevent Crime from the side of the Light have been in vain, Crime persists despite my efforts. In order for my vision to be fulfilled, the Criminals of this City must have their hearts pierced by Fear. Fear of Retribution. Fear of Consequences. Fear of Vengeance."

Thoughout bis Speech, the Shadowed Figure stayed silent.

"That is why I have called you here. I want you to stalk these streets, punish the criminals of this City and strike fear into their hearts from the shadows, so that they know to stay in the light. I don't want you to Kill them, never kill them. Let them live with that fear in their Hearts until their final days."

After he finished his speech, the Figure finally spoke.

"Your Quest is an Honorable one. You seek the betterment of your people's, and are unafraid to resort to drastic measures to achieve that goal. It reminds me of my Liege's resolve." It Spoke, it's voice low and rumbling. "Very Well. From this day forth, I shall protect your City from the Darkness in its own Heart. I shall be your Dark Knight."

Had this idea out of nowhere and needed to write it down. In this AU, Bruce still wants to protect his City from crime, but is understandably traumatized from seeing the Deaths of his Parents. He has a deep-seated fear of Dying, so he chooses to forgo fighting crime himself.

Instead, he finds out about a Spirit that his Ancestors helped long ago, and decides that the most logical next step out be to Summon a Demon to protect his City. Instead of training his Body for a decade to become Batman, he trains his Mind and Studies as much about Magic and Demon's as Possible.

He still knows how to fight because he trained with the League. He approached them with an offer to study the Lazarus Pits and give them his findings, and they accepted. But Ra's didn't want a weakling on his Base so he also required Bruce to train his body. He saw his potential for combat, and was so disappointed that Bruce had chosen a different path. He could have been Great!

Bruce still has a thing with Talia that produces Damian, he is still a point of interest from Ra's since he is insanely smart and has huge potential, and he knows how to fight pretty well. Albeit not as well as in Canon.

Bruce becomes the Benefactor/Guy in the Chair for Fright Knight (who is the one he summoned if you couldn't tell), who looks like a "Bat Man" because of Bruce's fear of Bats. Fright Knight agreed to this because 1.) He had a debt to pay, 2.) Bruce reminded him of Danny, and 3.) He respected Bruce's ballsyness to Summon a demon and command it to protect people.

Bruce still adopts his Kids, but there are some changes.

Dick is adamant about fighting Crime, and eventually Bruce is forced to let him go on patrol with Fright Knight, who has started going by Batman. Thankfully Frighty managed to give him some blessings so he had minor powers and would be safer.

Jason is mostly the same, and he is so excited that Robin actually IS Magical. When he dies, Fright Knight, who had gotten attached to their Family, goes into the Zone to search for him. He is unsuccessful unfortunately.

Tim is kind of funny. He figured out that Dick was Robin, and Jason was the 2nd Robi , but assumed that Bruce was Batman. When he approached Bruce about becoming Robin so he would stop going down his violent Cycle, Bruce Redirected him to talk to Fright Knight, who was not taking his failure to find Jason well.

Damien grew up knowing that his Father was a Genius, and the Master of the Batman, which gave him a bit of an Ego. At first he thought of Fright Knight as a Servant, and tried to command him like he did with Alfred. Frighty corrected him quickly enough.

Any more ideas for this AU? I have so many, but I think I need to stop for now.

i’m seeing a lot of people on instagram and irl praising president elect trumps most recent statement regarding the hostage crisis and middle east strife.

they say this should have been americas stance from october 8th 2023 onward. while i agree the focus on the hostages has waned globally and our concern should really be rescuing who we can and those responsible should be held accountable, the language of this post is rhetorically manipulative to the jewish community. he is telling a lot of us what we want to hear, we want someone to really stand up for us on the political stage (ritchie torres) and stay with their full chest that they are on our team— but this message is not doing that. this message is that of a war monger drumming up his base to create more chaos as the transition of power becomes an even larger public spectacle. i can tell because he says the world wants the hostages back. that it’s demonstrably false. for example, a staffer to the new york city mayors office was suspended without pay this week for tearing down hostage posters.

this statement from trump uses the hostages to bolster a hawkish sentiment that is growing into mainstream.

i don’t have answers or edits to his statement. it speaks for itself. i’m just very tired. tired of this rhetoric, tired of every day bringing conflicting reports of broken ceasefires and coalitions of global powers backing theocratic regimes.

the path to peace is fraught with violent traps and i see far too many of us falling into it over and over again. people i regard as brilliant are taking trumps statement as a net positive. i have a sick feeling its not.

Fadel never planned on killing Style. He might have thought about it on a surface level, but he never truly planned on killing Style. He might not have even planned on killing Kant. I also think Fadel knows that Style isn't the one to blame for the start of the lies. At least subconsciously he knows this.

Bison told him how Style got involved. That Kant brought Style in at his request in order for Fadel to let them date.

Fadel is probably now skeptical about how involved Style is with the cops. This gave Fadel a line of doubt for Style's betrayal and that's all he needed. Then Fadel's actions for the rest of the episode betrayed his words about killing Style.

While Bison was fantasizing about killing Kant (though I don't think he actually wanted to kill Kant either and he was just in the middle of being supremely hurt by Kant and that was his way of processing but that's another post that I will probably never write tbh), Fadel was planning how to betray them the way that they felt betrayed. That is not the thought process of someone who wants to kill. That is the thought process of a lover who wants to seek equal justice for the hurt caused. Eye for an eye and all that. If Fadel wanted Style and Kant dead for betraying them, he would have had a different plan. He would have planned a quick death for Style and Kant and mourned his lover but moved on. He would have had Bison kill Style while he went after Kant. That would have been the cleanest and most surefire way to kill both of them.

But the thing is, Fadel and Bison are ultimately good people. They are hit men, yes, but they only go after people that they fully believe are bad people. People that they believe are hurting others. They believe the world will be a safer place without the people they kill in it. Which is why they will struggle to kill Kant and Style. Not just because they love them but because they are not bad people tha are deserving of death. It is also why Fadel and Bison stopped that abusive ex boyfriend, not once, but twice. They should be keeping a low profile, especially after that botched hit. But by helping and stopping that abusive ex, they made themselves known and they made themselves seen. They got injured in the process of helping. Now more people are involved and seeing their faces. That is not what two hit men hell bent on getting vengeance on their lovers by way of death are going to do. They are going to kill them first and leave. But they are incapable of not helping others when they know they can help.

Fadel, specifically, seemed to be searching for ways to not kill Style. First, by having just a lousy initial plan. Then, when at the bowling alley, he took his time getting that poison out. I thought it was odd how obvious this professional hit man was being by looking around so much. But then it hit me (pun not intended), Fadel was searching for a reason, any reason, to not use that poison. He was searching for something to stop him, and he found it. It was just a second, but it was enough to stop him. He thought he saw someone concerning and he stopped. Had he really wanted to kill Style, that brief glance would not have been a deterrent.

The thing that I've been most obsessed with though is in the hospital, after Bison has been stabbed and Fadel has decided to drop the mask, he warns Style:

He is giving Style a chance. He is telling Style as subtly as he can that he is a dangerous man and he already knows Style knows that. This line is Style's chance to run. This is Style's chance to be paranoid and look around every corner to see if his hit man boyfriend is waiting for him. Why drop the mask? Why warn Style? Why give Style a chance if he wanted to kill him? Fadel is capable of many things, but I don't think he could ever kill Style. When he told Style that he loved him, he meant it with his whole heart and soul. It was the truth of him and no matter how big the betrayal was, not matter how hurt Fadel is, he cannot deny the truth at the core of his being: he loves Style. And he cannot stop himself. He is trying, but to deny his love for Style now is to deny a fundamental part of who he is.

And that is why he doesn't kill Style at that pool. Why does he need Style to find Bison? He doesn't. Fadel already has the skills he needs to track them down. We could argue he needs Style to drive the car, but that's not really true. He got Style to that pool somehow and it is definitely possible to drive with a broken arm (please do not drive in a sling though please please please do not do that). So making Style help him find Bison and Kant is just another reason for him to keep Style alive. A justification to put off killing the one person he cannot bring himself to kill. Style knows this. Style knows that Fadel loves him. Style also knows that he loves Fadel. The lies have come out and the road is rocky but they both know deep in their being that they love each other. And that is why Fadel lowers the gun and rests his eyes. When he is in the car, alone with Style, with no one around to judge or to demand Style's death, he can relax. When it's just him and Style, Fadel doesn't need to worry about pretending to try to kill him (though I don't think Fadel realizes he was pretending). Alone, with Style driving them towards his brother and Kant, Fadel finally, finally rests.

And despite himself, Fadel does.
