You know, the AAI2 fandom’s insistence on referring to the characters by their fan localized names we’ve had for like a decade instead of the ones we received this week is really funny. It almost reminds me of something…
Tumblr media
God damn it.

i like the idea that despite their obvious color palettes atsushi is more into dark stuff while akutagawa prefers lighter ones. atsushi drinks black coffee while akutagawa likes lattes. atsushi listens to metal while akutagawa likes classic music. atsushi is maybe a thriller fan while akutagawa has comfort shows. it's just something i think about

I like it when the fandom engages with Chuuya drinking problematically or Akutagawa smoking despite his lung disease or Fyodor indulging his gambling addiction.
Asagiri can't explore the same, there's a censorship regime in Japan for manga aimed at certain ages. But even if he doesn't care to, fan works should be transformative and exploratory; and fan works that do so while engaging with the source material and its themes like humanity and contradiction and culpability are even more golden for doing so.
The urge to lacquer fiction in performative didactism and aversion to moral turpitude is self cannibalizing.

If your friends give you some good ways to get iron back besides supplements, please share with the class 😅 only realized i was anemic recently after dealing with it for years :') no pressure! just thought i might ask since i don't know anyone anemic myself
I have been told! High iron foods are your friends. Red meat [though chicken also has a decent iron content], and organ meat specifically [liver, heart, tongue] are high in iron. Leafy greens like spinach and collard greens, as well as broccoli and peas. There are also high iron cereals you can buy. They tend to be on the more bland end of the cereal spectrum, but still good.
[I personally like the frosted mini wheaties. The crunch... So good...]
Also, sometimes the issue is less iron intake, and more your iron absorption. Vitamin C can sometimes help with that. Citrus fruits are a good pick. I'm thinking about grabbing some nectarines since they keep for ages. They get expensive this time of year though, which sucks >:/
Multivitamins are always a choice as well, if you don't wanna change your diet, or have food problems and can't/don't like the new foods. [I know you said you don't like supplements, but I am sharing everything I've learned with the class.]
I personally don't like how expensive they are, but the convenience is nice. I've been told iron pills can make your stomach upset though, and vitamins in general have mixed results for people. I would do your own reading on that.
That's! All I got! Good luck with your blood!

I think one of the best things the Ibizan Hound Club of the United States has ever done is the illustrated standard
It uses real pictures of real dogs and shows variations of conformation and style within the breed that can all be correct. It also has real examples of what isn’t desirable.
It also expands upon and goes more in depth into the official AKC standard and how it is generally agreed to be interpreted in the breed
Ibizans have some really unique conformational features and the illustrated standard was so instrumental to my own learning and is such a wonderful resource to share with others trying to learn. Honestly every breed should have an illustrated standard imo

To be fair: Serpico and Farnese barely have any interactions even in Conviction. Most of their bond is presented during Serpico's flashback at the start of Millenium Falcon, and even then that's mostly through Serpico's pov
Really when you think about it their relationship is a bit one sided: it's Serpico who has a near admiration for Farnese, especially due to him knowing the truth about their parentage. But to Farnese Serpico has always just been her loyal servant. Past her trying to propose her love for him and escape together even Serpico notes that their relationship stayed as just a master/servant type. Farnese certainly cares about Serpico, given that he was the first person she's ever had any type of relationship with and has been with her since forever, and it can be seen when she was about to fall off the Church roof as she kept screaming his name while he was fighting the Kelpie ,but it doesn't seem like she harbors for him the same type of affection that he has for her
Case in point: you always see Serpico thinking about Farnese but never the other way around
They have certainly interacted more back then - I'm thinking of a scene where Farnese reminds Serpico that she and only she is his master, IIRC because he didn't want to blindly obey an order of hers.
But you're right that the story doesn't explore Farnese's feelings for Serpico after that rejected love confession. I can understand her acting coldly towards him when she's still leader of the Holy Iron Chain Knights, because she wants to pretend nothing happened between them because she is still in denial about her true emotions, but afterwards you'd think she'd reconsider him, even as a way to say "I don't see you as my servant anymore, but as my friend".
Serpico was, from what I have interpreted, the human equivalent of Farnese's blanket: a reliable source of safety, the one she has always desperately craved. But now, that source is Guts. And between her feelings for him and her focus on taking care of Casca, it does feel like Serpico has been pushed to the side, while Serpico is still unwaveringly loyal and cares for her both as his Lady and as his sister.
I don't mind the idea that he's more attached to her than the other way around, or even that she detached herself as a way to grow more independent, but it was a missed opportunity to develop them even more.

Me normally: Let people love what they love
Me, after a Test Match Special commentator expresses their belief that the new All Creatures Great and Small is somehow "better" than the 1978 version: This is pure insanity and TMS can no longer be trusted on anything, how can they even be trusted to know about cricket, do they have no TASTE
#Look it's fine that this show exists and people will watch it and like it and that's ok maybe it's just not for me#But that was like a statement purely designed to piss me off#There were lots of issues with the 1978 adaptation! I still vastly preferred the books any day!#And I actually initially had high hopes for the new one because they at least cast a Scot (albeit a Highlander not a Clydesider) as James#And the actors at least looked a little bit younger than Christopher Timothy and Robert Hardy#And thank god Helen actually sounds like she's a farmer's daughter and doesn't speak RP!#But from the half hour I've seen of it I've had to write off this new adaptation#For two major reasons#First of all there's Siegfried#Siegfried is one of the key central aspects of the vibe of the books and therefore key to any adaptation#Robert Hardy was too short and too old for the part but he lived and breathed the character#The twinkle in the eye bouncing off the walls and in and out of rooms followed by half a dozen dogs utterly full of life even when angry#But this new Siegfried is just sort of... Eeyore-esque; he comes into a room and you can see the flowers droop and the set turn grey#Siegfried was angry Siegfried was happy and the historical character he was based on was no stranger to melancholy#Since Donald Sinclair did commit suicide or rather self-euthanasia after Alf Wight and his own wife Audrey died#But this slow grumbly figure in the new adaptation is not Siegfried Farnon- the book character didn't grumble more often he exploded#And why did the adaptation give him a dead wife that's so weird? What could that possibly add to the source material?#And this brings me onto my second problem which is to do with women and age#Firstly I have no idea why they aged down Mrs Hall or at least made her look younger than a woman her age would have back then#But what really drove me mad was when Heriot goes out to see some old woman hill farmer in the episode I saw#And this woman is far too clean and young-looking and you can see that she's wearing 'natural' look make-up#And a perfect set of clothes that looked like they were straight out of the House of Bruar autumn collection catalogue#Say what you like about the 1978 adaptation but old women looked like old women regardless of whether or not they wore make-up#It may be that the better quality of television screens means that the 'natural look' shows up on screen more clearly than it would have#But natural look make-up was not really a thing in the 1930s and for old women Yorkshire hill farmers I doubt they'd have much on at all#They just don't seem to be capable of allowing people to look old and wrinkled and real or have bad teeth or unattractive clothes#And everything is far too tidy- everybody looks far too perfectly country and quaint#Anyway the moral of this story is of course that I always recommend reading the books because they're much better#than any tv adaptation; but if forced to choose at least the 1970s one felt real and yet didn't have to be grim either#Ok that's my rant over please do feel free to enjoy the show I just got annoyed because the opinion was expressed on TMS

Disability stuff
While it was really nice to catch up with my friend, she did point out something I don't really know what to do with. I will preface this by saying she did not point this out in an unkind way. I will also say that we've been friends since highschool and even though there are typically long gaps in between us seeing each other, she's quite familiar with me.
I struggle much more with my words than I used to. In my younger years I was often called pretentious because I used very precise words. But more often, particularly in the last few years, I find myself struggling to recall or get out the exact words I want.
It's very frustrating and I do, depending on the company, express that frustration by saying things like " I do have words" or "I know words".
For example, today I was telling her that I'd recently tried my hand at homemade perogies. I was trying to say that I'd bought a dumpling press but could not recall those two, relatively simple, words. I ended up resorting to hand gestures.
My friend wondered if it's because I talk less to people these days but I'm not sure it is. I wonder if it's related to unmasking more and being less hyper focused on/rehearsing precisely what I'm going to say next?
I could be totally off too. But while it's definitely a thing I've noticed about myself, I didn't realize how different it is from my younger self.

i kind of wish dean had just kept not liking dogs. that’s one of the things that i never understood them leaning so hard on changing in the later seasons. like, yes, first of all, hellhound trauma should have been more of a thing for him in an ideal world <3 but also by itself? it’s just a neutral trait, makes sense for who he is. he’s got a car he likes to keep clean and taken care of, and he’s spent his whole life on the road murdering people so having a pet wasn’t exactly an option at any point.
i’m not sure i want to say that making dean like dogs is either the writers flattening him or attributing Notable Sam Traits to dean. but it is a weird decision. to give him that little mop dog and go :) yeah guys dean loves dogs.
not liking dogs isn’t something about him that had to be fixed lmao that was actually a pretty solid trait. why of all things did they reverse course on that.
