Miya Atsumu; how endearing

Above the busy city, the honking of cars, the people walking down the street, and in a certain place where Inarizaki High School is established. The eminent azure tinctured heavens cloaked the world. It was an ordinary day the disseminated powder-puff clouds drift indolently across the interminable sky as the fresh sunlight irradiates the crevasses of every place – dusting off the darkness with the sun's glorious celestial entity.
Suna Rintarou stood in the rooftop, both elbows propped on the banisters as the youthful breeze of spring brushes through his body with the chorus birds above singing happily along with its kinds. He relished the calming atmosphere, feeling as it has a touch of magic, as if anything may happen that would grant him a magical experience.
Suna's eyes settled on the landscape before him, the varying types of edifices and houses with several colors that festoon the once cryptic hollow space billions of years ago. It was a sight indeed, suited for a man like him who's quiet all the time. But his eyes never missed catching two figures beneath him: a girl with long ebony hair and a familiar blonde hair who he was certain that it's their team's setter, Miya Atsumu.
The middle blocker already has the knowledge of what was going to occur among the two. It's the same scenario that he'd frequently witness every lunch break, Atsumu receiving a confession again, and he'd reject the girl straight away without batting an eyelash.
He doesn't care about what will happen anyway. That is precisely why he never had mentioned it to the setter that he'd often be the spectator of him acquiring a girl's love. It's not notable to him, and he isn't the type of guy who likes to stick his nose into other people's businesses. He likes to avoid that. He will always be doing that.
Although he's sick of perpetually seeing a confession from his usual spot, his eyes have adhered to the two persons who are beneath him.
Miya Atsumu has once again been summoned by a girl that he doesn't even know that she's actually studying here.
In the to-do lists of the girls in school, one of many cliché things there was to confess to someone at the courtyard of the school. Anyone with courage enough to do that was worthy of praise, even from Atsumu himself. He admired them for it but did not think it was riveting. Just another day at Inarizaki. Another thing to cross off on a list. Atsumu couldn't even remember the name of the last girl who confessed to him.
"I like you, Atsumu-kun!" The girl declared while eyes were sealed as her cheeks tinged in roseate hues.
Atsumu executes a subtle sigh as he straightens his back, preparing the words itching in his throat that he'd regularly answer girls.
"Sorry but I'm not interested." The girl pressed her trembling lips to keep the tears at bay.
Atsumu watched her with disinterest and full of boredom written on his face. It's the identical expressions he'd perceived whenever he'd reject them. Melancholic and tearful. Composing themselves from crying in front of him because they refuse to witness them weep by him, which is the thing he's most thankful for. He's not the one to blame if they'd cry to their friends in the girl's restroom or anywhere they pleased.
They were the ones who chose to confess to him even though they already knew the answer they would gain from him. The only emotion that keeps them from venturing their plan is their unyielding tenacity; their friends stimulating speeches and the hope that he might like them back – and that latter is what Atsumu despises the most.
He doesn't want to waste his time frequently hearing a girl's confession, it's revolting for always hearing it – though, he appreciates their feelings they possess for him, but it's not thrilling anymore.
Atsumu had achieved his task, so he excused himself first and left the girl behind, granting her an alone time to weep.
It is something that he doesn't want to see, he knows the feeling of rejection, but not in a romantic aspect, yet he is aware of how disheartening it felt – like you were being shrouded with darkness and feel the clenching of your heart inside your chest. Though it appears that Atsumu looks like he had tons of relationships in the past, he won't be ashamed of proclaiming to the world that he has stayed single ever since the day of his birth. Heck, he would admit that he much prefers being disengaged with the clutches of relationships and stay inclined to volleyball instead.
That's more preferable and pleasant to hear.

Atsumu tossed the ball to his twin and was satisfied as they earned a point with his set up. The coach decided to hold a practice match with every member of their club. Presently, they were having a match with Kita and Aran, who were on the other side of the net. It never ceases to amaze him every time he'd view their ace's spike and their captain's substantial receives. Despite being impressed with his teammates, Atsumu also gives his all in the game, and the thirst for victory enkindled in his system.
This is the thrill that he craves, not the same as the daffy confession of every damn girl he'd constantly receive every day.
"'Tsumu, are you done being a freak staring into space? Coach gave us a water break." The monotonous voice of his twin had snapped him out from his stupor.
"Shut the hell your mouth! I don't want to hear it from someone whose face is always stoic," he countered before stomping his foot and sauntering to where everyone was taking a rest and drinking their filled water bottle.
Osamu shrugged and followed his twin. Their captain had scolded them yet again with his more indomitable appearance and bland voice. Osamu told the blonde that Kita is more vacuous than him, and Atsumu wouldn't deny that because it's a fact. But still, the setter categorized them both in the same kind of species – the emotionless species.
He has no idea why he and his brother had distinct personalities, yet they are twins. Sometimes, he couldn't determine what Osamu was thinking about and his emotions except when they'd argue.
He is the actual opposite of his brother, lively and not impassive like him.
That is why he thinks that he's reliable and more preferable because he can show different emotions rather than Osamu, who is perpetually stoic as the same as the captain. Musing about it makes his ego skyrocketed.
Suna and Ginjima, who happened to witness Atsumu grinning like an idiot by himself, had caused them to step back and weirded out at him – well, he's already weird in the first place, though – but this kind of behavior only made him weirder.
'Is it the reason for getting confessed almost every day?' Suna mused while drinking his water.
A strum of a guitar resonates throughout the area, causing all the members to pause from their movements as their ears perked up upon hearing the sound of an instrument. It strummed in a familiar melodic pattern, but no one can figure what song it is. Suna knew that it's an acoustic guitar because of its vibrating strings and its sweet and softer tones.
Before they could even start a query, a woman's voice yet again halted them from their tracks and rendered them mute. Even Atsumu, who was in his stupor, had snapped back to reality once a sweet voice of a woman had rung within his ears.
I've never gone with the wind, just let it flow Let it take me where it wants to go
All of them are curious about the one who's singing, and they could distinguish that the noise is coming from outside their gym. Kita also grew curious, and his feet led him to the doors to discover the person behind that beautiful voice – even the captain admits that – Atsumu did not hesitate to follow Kita. His curiosity overwhelms him and wants to find out who is singing.
His mind is full of queries as to why someone would sing outside the gym. There are lots of rooms and areas in the campus for her to take a sweet moment by herself. However, Atsumu couldn't deny that he was pleased to hear the charming voice of this mysterious girl.
As once Kita and Atsumu took a peek outside, the setter's lips instantly dropped once his eyes landed on the girl he knew too well.
'Til you opened the door, there's so much more I've never seen it before I was trying to fly but I couldn't find wings But you came along and you changed everything.
Atsumu's eyes are like glue, transfixed on you, who is singing and playing the guitar. He didn't tear his gaze away from you even if he could hear the footsteps approaching behind him.
He doesn't have any clue why you were doing it here, as if you're a busker who sings and plays in streets or any other public places. But most of all, he feels his breath hitch when you stared into his eyes while singing the lyrics while playing the guitar. Your eyes never left him, and he did the same thing.
Atsumu let himself be absorbed with gawking to you as you played.
You lift my feet off the ground You spin me around You make me crazier, crazier Feels like I'm falling and I'm lost in your eyes
While you're singing, you suddenly step forward and mosey toward where Atsumu stood. Now he could feel his body turned rigid and as if his breath had seized by a lurking spirit, making him breathless. 
As you finally stand before him, you sing the last lyrics of the chorus.
You make me crazier, crazier, crazier.
"I like you, Miya Atsumu-san," you confessed, voice laced with fondness, no hint of jest but utter sincerity. Looking at him like the king of the jungle that bears pride and gallantry and wouldn't waver whoever it confronts someone.
Atsumu swallowed the lump inside his throat, caught off guard, speechless and dumbfounded. Now he comprehends the situation as to why you were singing outside their gym.
It's because you were serenading him. But why English, though?
Atsumu hadn't foreseen that it would happen to him, someone serenading him as their type of confession.
That is beyond the usual. You remarkably caught him by surprise, and this is the first time he couldn't produce a coherent speech in his head – except when he's taking an exam.
"I—"
"That's all!" you squawked and bowed to him before bolting away and left everyone in an astounding state.
Kita looked over at Atsumu with his usual expression, but inwardly he was surprised as well, knowing the fact that this is the first time he had heeded a woman serenading a man. That's off-the-wall. 
Everyone directed their gazes to their setter, who's still flabbergasted at the scene a while ago and stared at the path where the girl had run off.
The known Miya Atsumu, who doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut, had become speechless.
Atsumu blinked his eyes, returning him to his senses from his astonishment. As he assimilates the extraordinary event earlier into his brain, he suddenly evokes a chuckle. He was dazzled by your outlandish confession and had come to pique his interest – he's not gonna lie – the way you confessed to him was impressive.
The most shocking for him was, he never perceived you to be this daring enough to serenade him in front of his teammates. Moreover, it never forded his mind that you like him in a romantic aspect since you would approach him as a mere classmate only. You haven't provided him with a hint that you fancy him. Well, it makes sense for Atsumu why you don't look like it.
After all, you are his seatmate all this time.

Change Management: 5 Ways to Support Yourself in the Process of Change

Before deep change, there is deep reflection. 
2020, the mother of all mirrors. 
Usually it takes a rock bottom, a near death, a death or an eat-pray-love experience for us to face the thing that’s been holding us back: ourselves. 
I’m not talking about our conscious selves, we would never knowingly hold ourselves back. I’m talking about something deeper.
Scientists call it ‘conditioning’, psychologists say ‘maladaptive beliefs’, new age folk prefer ‘self-limiting beliefs’, I’ve heard motivational gurus use ‘subconscious programming’, while the mystics say ‘the shadow self’, you’ve probably also heard it referred to as ‘your demons’. 
Call it what you will. 
The point is, we live most of our lives mindlessly, on autopilot, saving energy for when we do need to make decisions, problem solve or run from wildebeests. And that’s a smart way to save energy. The downside is that if the program our autopilot is set to has a glitch in it, a mistake of some sort, a conditioned-maladaptive-limiting-subconscious-shadow-demon-thought lurking deep below our awareness, we’re going to repeat that mistake around 90% of the time.
Change. You can want it so bad, SO bad, you can have a rad plan, and try real hard, but it won’t stick if you don’t deal with whatever your subconscious mind is tripping on. 
It’s futile. 
YOU, however, are lucky enough to be, right now, in the process of deep change, real, lasting change. You have 2020 to thank. 2020 has forced us all into some deep dark reflection.
Please. Don’t. Stop. 
Don’t stop now if things are ‘going back to normal’. Instead of going backwards, go deeper.
Before we get to my theory of how change starts in the mind but is set to fruition deeper within the body, and my tips on how to support yourself in this process, let’s first get real about what you’re signing up for.
The process looks like this:

In the process of change, the process of making something new that didn’t exist before, also known as the creative process - things get worse before they get better. 
It seems cruel but it’s actually genius. 
The high emotions we experience at the start of the process suck us in, but as we get into it, they quickly fade.
Hiding in your rock-bottom-despair at the center of the process triggers the exact emotional wound or ‘subconscious-shadow-demon’ that would continue to trip you up if you didn’t deal with it. It’s exactly what you need to deal with to change the programming that’s stopping the change from sticking. 
These deep wounds or misconceptions were ingrained before you had rational thoughts, so no amount of thinking can transcend them. Only when we feel the pain can we heal the pain. Corny but true.
After the low point in the middle where we are forced to deal with our baggage, is when things start to get better. We still make mistakes and missteps that teach us more valuable lessons that are needed in order to achieve what we set out to do. The closer we get to achievement, the higher our spirits soar.  
Many people, I’m raising my hand, hit this point of discomfort in the middle of the process and see it as an inconvenient obstacle rather than the gift it is. Opening ourselves up to feel is the invitation into the backend of our autopilot programming, where we can make edits and change our programming, swapping unhealthy patterns for empowering ones. 
Instead of leaning into this awesome opportunity, many of us get frustrated with the perceived obstacle and give up on the process and ourselves, ultimately, allowing our minds to rationalise and justify our exit plan. Letting our unhealthy patterns live to ruin another day.   
Not today, today we’re going deeper into the fire of transformation. 
I’m nearly up to the 5 sassy tips because everyone loves a listicle, but first I want to quickly back up my claim that the true processing power lies in le body. 
You’ve heard about the benefits of gratitude, right? How it’s proven to boost mental health and resilience? I’ve found that listing our blessings is just the vehicle that gets us out of our minds, into our bodies, where we physically feel gratitude. Thinking about things we’re grateful for, can alter our mindset to be more positive ONLY when we allow ourselves to FEEL it. You can fake a gratitude practice the same way you can fake an orgasm. Hopefully your grateful façade will trick yourself into feeling it below the surface, but if you’re as stubborn and headstrong as me, you’ll walk away with the disappointment you brought with you plus some more.
I suggest that it’s not the thinking, it’s the oozey warm feeling you get in your chest, the moment of being in your body and leaning into the joy, that is where the real benefits of gratitude come from. Brene Brown discovered that even though it might seem responsible to prepare for life’s potential hardships, in reality, the people who MENTALLY rehearse disaster, are statistically less resilient. She found that the people with the greatest resilience were the ones that leaned deeply into their FEELINGS of joy. 
Are you sold yet, the body trumps the mind? Feelings over thoughts? I know it’s hard to swallow when we’ve been taught to believe emotions are less reliable than logic. Try to stay open to it if you’re not there yet. 
Here it is, what you’ve been scrolling for, 5 Failure Friendly tips for transformation that sticks:
1. No blame games

When self reflecting there will come a moment when we become aware of an aspect of ourselves, that until now has gone unnoticed, this is when we experience mindfulness. Mindfulness is the opposite of mindlessness. Meaning the behavior we uncover was participated in it mindlessly, it was subconscious behaviour. 
We have no control over subconscious behaviour until the ‘aha moment’ when we wake up to ourselves and become conscious to it. Whatever you’ve done or not done, it really wasn’t up to you, so it’s a waste of time to punish yourself with thoughts like ‘I should have known better!’ There is no shoulda, coulda or woulda  when it comes to subconscious thoughts and behaviours. So don’t waste energy judging yourself for your mindless choices. 
This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take responsibility for your actions. The moment we become conscious is simultaneously the moment we become response-able. Finally seeing the full picture gives us the ability to discern and respond. Before I unpack how to respond consciously, you need to understand that mindfulness is a thought or knowing that happens in the mind. The next step is to move this insight away from the mind and into the body where the transformation begins.
2. Out of our minds and into our bodies

One of the hurdles of transformation is processing this new information. Instead of getting stuck in our head by falling into vicious cycles of over-thinking, we can take the idea from the mind and transform it into a feeling, for our bodies to process. As I said earlier, the power of gratitude practices are well documented, but it’s not the gratitude lists that boosts our mental health. Counting our blessings is just the vehicle that brings us into our bodies where we physically feel gratitude. You know that oozey warm heart-full feeling? That’s where, I argue, the real restorative benefits come from.
Gratitude is to joy what forgiveness is to pain, both are experiences that happen in the body, not the mind. If 2020 forced you to reflect and uncover some painful truths, this is a call for forgiveness. Again, emotions need to be felt and transformed in the body. Joy needs to be felt and transformed into an experience of physical gratitude, while pain needs to be felt and transformed into an experience of physical forgiveness. The cool side-effect is that both of these transformative experiences boost our resilience and make us stronger (which we will need as we step further into the process of change). As compared to dwelling and obsessing about pain or joy in the mind, that will only shrink or swell our egos. Having an inferior or superior ego makes us more fragile to life’s bumps in the road. 
Start by thinking about the pain that’s attached to your mindless behaviour, how it’s negatively affected you and those around you. Now consciously invite that discomfort into your body to feel the sensation of that pain. Scan your body, where do you feel it and what does it feel like? Lean into the discomfort, you were designed for this. Name it, aloud if you can, even better face yourself in the mirror as you do it. Feeling leads to healing, another corny truth, healing is when we can forgive or release the pain so that it stops interfering in our autopilot program. 
The only person you have to forgive in this moment is yourself. If someone else wounded you, don’t feel pressured to forgive them. You can forgive them if it feels good, when and if you’re ready. Or you can visualise handing them back the baggage along with the responsibility for them to forgive themselves. If self-forgiveness doesn’t feel attainable right now, just being willing to forgive is enough.  
Rather than telling your hurt self to cheer up, instead give yourself space to feel all of your feelings without judgement. If you notice yourself holding a grudge on your past self, or panicking about falling apart, breathe into that feeling and invite forgiveness to soften its edges. You can journal or affirm something loving like ‘it’s okay, let it out, I am willing to witness this.’
3. Understand what you’re up against

Imagine a path in the Aussie bush. Surrounded by trees and thick shrubs, the narrow clearing has been worn away by constant foot traffic. Your mindless thoughts and behaviour have a neural pathway just like this well-worn path. You’ve unknowingly practiced the response so many times that it has become a habit, requiring zero effort for your brain to perform. Changing your thoughts and behaviours is like walking off the well-worn path and bush bashing your way to a new reality. Urgh. As I looked down the barrel of change recently, it was not the uncertainty that scared me most, but the high likelihood of failure. The mindfulness I had mustered felt like a drop of water, while the ingrained pattern of unhealthy behaviour was the ocean. It feels impossible not to slip right back into the old comfy pattern. What was the point, right?
Wrong. If you have the same fear of failure, acknowledge how difficult this feels, then listen up. Even a monk cannot maintain mindfulness 24/7 so we are going to find ourselves back in the mindless pattern sooner or later. Slipping back into subconscious programming is subconscious a.k.a. no self judgement or blame games allowed (refer back to point 1). Instead of giving up before you begin, prepare for the inevitable relapse and visualise now, what will you do to course-correct when you slip back into mindlessness?
4. Breaking the habit, one relapse at a time

Welcome the relapses, they are an important part of the process and yes, there will be many. Relapsing into old patterns is not failure, it’s not even a setback. Embrace each slip with open arms because relapsing is our opportunity to bounce back, and bouncing back is how we break down old patterns. It’s in the bouncing back that we work our resilience muscles and cement the desired transformation. 
‘Bouncing back’ sounds fun and easy. It's not. As you test out your new mindful behaviour, you’re going to feel the pull of the old habit. It will to try and lure you back to the well worn path with it’s comfy promise. You’ve practice the mindless behaviour so many times it’s become comfortable, in comparison this new behaviour feels very uncomfortable. Resisting this pull feels wrong. Even though it feels wrong, this discomfort is a sign that you’re on the right path and in the process of change. So remember, if it feels wrong - you’re doing it right!
Soon you will have broken away from this mindless habit so many times that when you do relapse, your mind will be flooded with memories of how you’ve bounced back. Knowing you’ve bounced back before makes it easier for you to slide into those conscious choices. This not only strengthens the new habit and your transformation, but it weakens the old patterns. Remember this as you’re choosing to act differently and wading through the discomfort after those early relapses. Every time it will get a little easier. 
Establishing a habit isn’t immediate, the fastest proven way to forge a new habit is to add the desired behaviour to an existing habit. For example, we habitually brush our teeth at the same time every day, so our existing morning or nighttime routine is the perfect time to practice the new thought or behaviour. (This is why I write affirmations in lipstick on my bathroom mirror).
5. Celebrate your relapse with a shot of dopamine

There is a secret weapon you can use to supercharge your transformation: dopamine. Dopamine is the feel good hormone that is released whenever we tick something off our to-do list or achieve a goal. Our brains are addicted to dopamine. It’s been proven that when you give yourself a dopamine hit after completing a task you are more likely to succeed at the next task. So count your effort - don’t discount it! 
Every time you relapse and then bounce back, really acknowledge yourself and celebrate your effort. You can keep a tally, give yourself a gold star or a physical pat on the back, whatever you need to mark the occasion and cue the dopamine. Your brain will crave the reward and subconsciously begin to look for more opportunities to bounce back. Suddenly the subconscious mind that was working against you, is on team transformation. 
Just like eating well or staying fit, it’s a practice not a quick fix or one size fits all approach. With no end in sight, we practice change and mindfulness daily. Your practice will evolve and it will see seasons of strong dedication and low motivation. Along the way, remember to think back to your early ‘aha’ moments and celebrate how far you’ve come, which will provide an encouraging hit of dopamine to accelerate your momentum. 
Set regular reminders for reflection, like a ‘Mindset Monday’. Checking in on your thoughts allows you to catch mindless patterns early. Finish sentences like ‘I feel’ to uncover things you’re avoiding. Remember to ask yourself why, why and why again to get the root of your mindless chatter. And don’t forget to schedule regular ‘Progress Parties’ to take stock of your achievements, no matter how big or small. 
The fear of failure is the number one thing that stops us from engaging in the process of change. When we understand that failure isn’t fatal, just an important part of the process, theoretically we are free to pursue our dreams. But in a culture that idolises effortless perfection, becoming a friend to failure is easier said than done.

Who are HOME?

HOME is an arts, theatre and film centre in Manchester. It opened in 2015, and has a goal of helping the planet in tackling the issue of climate change. Their ambition is to push the boundaries of form and technology by experimenting and taking risks. 
It has had 2.9 million customers since opening, which is a huge amount. It seems to be a vibrant place, full of life and continuously evolving.
HOME work with artists all over the globe in order to produce fantastic experiences, ranging from drama, dance, film and contemporary visual art with a strong focus on international work, new commissions, education, informal learning as well as being a creative hub for the region, where local talent is nurtured through their talent development programme.
HOME seems to be the cultural epicentre of Manchester, and long may that continue.

On reflection after browsing the website, I found it hard to locate the sustainability section. The sections included too much text and could have been complimented better with the use of icons or graphics to visually tell the story, but that is just personal preference. 
I tested out how long it took me to find out about their sustainability, and it took me almost 2 minutes and 14 seconds. I only found the section through typing in the search bar, which I shouldn’t have to do; it should be told to me.

It was a dull experience and it didn’t prompt me to be more sustainable by visiting the website. Nevertheless, HOME do have relevant information on the website about their sustainability, I just don’t believe many people visit the section as it takes too much effort. When it comes to user experience and user interface design, the user should do the least amount of work possible to find information.
I did however find the addition of ‘how to get there’ interesting, as it could prompt a potential customer to travel by bus because of ease of use. There could be a bus route that never crossed the mind of a customer who usually drives to HOME. Having the information there for the customer I believe is a positive addition to the website as ultimately you can’t force a customer to change their behaviour, (it is ultimately up to them) but by giving them information you can give them a decision to make which wasn’t there beforehand.
Outside HOME, there is a statue of Friedrich Engels who came to work in a Manchester mill in 1842. He spent almost 30 years in Manchester, and he became an innovative socialist and economic thinker. 
Engels time in Manchester experienced industrial working conditions and the plight of the poorest in society, which inspired his first book: The Condition of the Working Class in England. It is magnificent that HOME have recognised the importance of Frederich Engels with the statue.

HOME are the first arts and cultural venue in the WORLD (wow!) to have all of the staff members trained in Carbon Literacy. All new starters are trained within 6 months, which is impressive and it clearly shows that HOME are marketing their sustainability in an effective way.
Training staff Carbon Literacy helps to connect HOME’s mission with the outside community by sharing knowledge and influencing others.

What is Climate Change? Why is it important?
Climate change is the long-term change in planet earth’s temperatures, with temperatures rising, meaning changes in weather patterns. This is caused by humans, and since the industrial revolution, we have released too much carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases into the air. The result of this is climate change, and the danger is that temperatures rise too high for human survival, as well as the atmosphere getting weaker.

These visuals above are striking, and visualise severe changes that have only come in less than 150 years. That is almost 2 average lifetimes, which proves that climate change is an issue that has to be tackled instantaneously otherwise the consequences will be unthinkable.
How can we stop climate change?
Reduce global greenhouse gas emissions!
The most crucial step to limit climate change is to make big and rapid reductions in global greenhouse gas emissions. There are many different ways this can be done and governments, businesses, organisations and individuals around the world can all contribute. In June 2019, the UK became the world’s first major economy to pass a law committing the country to a target of ‘net zero’ emissions by 2050.
Personally, I believe we have ultimately changed our relationship to nature; we now see nature as a resource, instead of our home and environment. 
Resources are perceived to be unlimited, when in reality they are limited. This image below visualises this perfectly and it certainly is striking:

It does seem that we have become separate from nature, as we live in cities that are very compressed, with food being wasted, with thousands of taxis and cars as well as other vehicles polluting the air.
It is when you drive out to the countryside and live with nature that makes you realise that the planet just looks healthier; it looks like it can breathe and ultimately this is what the planet is meant to be. Trees growing, raindrops pouring, grass growing, rivers flowing; we seem to forget this when living our busy lifestyles travelling to and from work.
For us humans, a lot of us love to live in the city due to the sociable aspect, and it is exciting as there is usually a lot going on.

Greta Thunberg
I just have to include this brave girl on my blog when talking about climate change. It is a sad reality of the state of affairs that a girl as courageous as Greta Thunberg has to stand up and act against world leaders who on the face of it seem to be ignoring the problem.
This for me represents the climate change problem perfectly; a girl is seen by society as someone who should be in school, learning a subject to go on to work as an adult. The roles are reversed in this instance due to no action being taken by world leaders, and I am in support of Greta. She is a 16 year old girl who wants to save the planet. Why has it come to this? It shouldn’t have, but it has.

32 Attitudes That Sabotage Weight Loss
It's time to detect them to finally untie the knot of weight loss!

They are on the kitchen counter, on the office desk, on the bedside table in the room, and inside your head.
Worse: as they are not usually directly related to weight gain, these clutter sabotage efforts to lose weight year after year.
1. "Only kill yourself for a few months"
There are two kids behind this reasoning, very widespread among those who want to wipe out the measures. Firstly, too restrictive regimes or heavy workouts are difficult to adopt.
"Then you have the following: the incorporation of balanced habits should not be seen as something temporary," says physical education professional Antonio Herbert Lancha Jr., author of the book The End of Diets (Ed. Abril).
"Otherwise, you may even lose weight, but you will regain weight once you restore the old pattern."
2. Do not plan
Food behavior expert Brian Wansink often asks clients and research volunteers how many food decisions they think they make each day.
"They respond between 20 and 25. But they make around 200, mostly unconsciously," notes the scientist, director of the Food and Brand Lab at Cornell University in the United States. When stating a goal, design the choices that will lead to compliance.
Example: If you want to have fruit at home, you need to make time to go to the market.
3. Unrealistic Promises
"In the fight against obesity, motivation is fundamental," says psychiatrist Adriano Segal of the Brazilian Association for the Study of Obesity and Metabolic Syndrome.
To keep it high, look for possible targets to be hit without so much suffering.
"The choice must come from the individual, not from the professional," recalls Cynthia Antonaccio, a nutritionist at Equilibrium Consultoria and one of the authors of Behavioral Nutrition (Ed. Manole).
You can determine that you will swallow at most one serving of potato chips per week.
4. Messy agenda
Leaving to buy vegetables only "when given time" culminates in a pantry full of biscuits and instant noodles. Yes, our daily schedule is full of chores, but two verbs help find space for weight-loss attitudes: prioritize and organize.

Think about going to the fair or exercising as related tasks and outlining your routine to see where to fit them.

5. Empty kitchen
In his book, Brian Wansink recounts the case of a journalist who reported to his services to win the dispute with the scale.

When he said he'd take a look at her kitchen, he heard, "This room is not the problem because it is always empty." But that is where deception lives.
"If the refrigerator is deserted, people order pizza or sandwiches, even when they just want a snack," notes Wansink.
Now, do not think your house is forbidden from harboring any remnants of goodies. Ideally, most foods should be light. However, there is room for small indulgences.
How to store
Believe it or not: the probability of snatching the first item you see in the closet is five times greater than that of eating the fifth. But you can use that to your advantage. Store the vegetables on the shelves more noticeably and save the sweets in the bottom of a drawer.
It's amazing how the eyes define our behaviors.
6. Chaotic environment
Dirty crockery in the sink, leftovers on the countertop, open drawers. Is this description familiar to you? Such attention!
In a survey of the University of New South Wales, Australia, 108 women have left in a zoned or otherwise perfect kitchen - both contained pots of cookies, crackers, and carrots. After a measly ten minutes, the participants in the messy room consumed 53 more calories in cookies.
7. Eating with friends
Let's face it: According to a paper from Cornell University, men fill their belly more (30% more, to be exact) when they feed on a group.
In women, the sensation of being observed has the opposite effect. It is not that, from now on, the lads should only dine in an isolated room.
The message is not to compete to see who gets more bogged down, but to take advantage of the presence of colleagues to keep up the conversation and to give folks calmly.
8. Refer to the show
More than 200 homes in the city of Syracuse in the United States were photographed before Wansink, and her team arrived at the following observation: women who live in a kitchen with a bottle of soda on the bench are on average 11 pounds plumper compared with neighbors free from this temptation.
Those that left a bowl of fruit in the same place were 5 kilos thinner. Got the message?
9. Table sleepers
Never underestimate what a few feet away from the food source do for the waistline.
"The need to get up and walk to the edge of the stove helps us think if we want more, rather than picking up another spoonful of autopilot," says nutritionist Cynthia Antonaccio.
American experiments show that the tactic reduces food intake by about 20%. It is no small thing.
10. Noisy place
At the University of Illinois in the United States, 60 families were recorded during a meal.

Half heard the noise of a vacuum cleaner between a fork and another. The result of martyrdom size? Parents abused cookies, soft drinks and even carrots, a sign of distraction to the extreme.
Curiously, the noise did not influence children's habits, but scientists realized that they received less attention from adults.
11. Delicacy in service
A hidden camera and bullet pots. These were the materials needed for a unique experiment mentioned in the book Slim by Design. For days, office workers were filmed.
At one point, the container with candy was dropped within reach of the employee. In another, he appeared on a table two feet away or hid in a drawer. And did not those 200 centimeters have a consumption of 125 calories less?! Ah, laziness.
12. Failure to clean the dish

14.  Chewing on walking

Compared to volunteers who ate the snack, the walkers swallowed five times more chocolate as they entered a room full of delights. "Distraction makes you feel less full," says Jane Ogden, a psychologist who is responsible for the discovery.
15. Eating Stressed
Tension and anxiety are often confused with the hunger for the brain. Combine this with the fact that the irritation shakes the self-control and that's it: the probability of emptying the ice cream pot goes high.
When stress strikes, grasp the initial urge to open the freezer. You may even choose to relax with a good candlelight dinner, but that decision needs to be rational.
16. Fixed eye on the buffet
After a series of interviews with individuals who have always been thin, the Cornell University class has revealed that they have three times greater tendency to sit with their backs to the platters after passing the self-service queue.
"Watching a lot of customers filling their plates makes me want to repeat," justifies Wansink. In fact, the skinny people he and his colleagues went to tables farther away from the food source.
17.  Inattention in line
In the rush of lunch, it is common to thicken the row of zombies that enter the restaurant by the kilo, pick up the cutlery and are already starting to serve.
Instead, try to glimpse all the items to plan your meal. This tactic makes us prefer less dense alternatives. Of breaking, it prevents the classic scene of, after filling the plate, to see more that delight.

In another Wansink article, wafer packs of 100 or 400 grams were distributed to viewers in a movie. Those who received the small packages ate 25% less - regardless of the amount, participants used to wipe out the cookie.
22. Light nights

A few years ago I wrote an article about my own experience with bulimia. The piece was published by several different media channels, and some time afterward I was interviewed by CNN.
It was the first time I had publicly, and explicitly, spoken about that particular part of my journey. But the desire to acknowledge and address the emotional effects of my experience had been participating for some time.
Prior to writing the article, I hadn’t felt ready to lay myself bare in such a direct way. However, I instinctively is recognized that I needed a means of self-expression that would allow me be talking about what I’d been through without being quite so specific.
That’s where creativity came in.
I began utilizing photography as a style of carrying everything I was still too vulnerable to verbalize. It was a beautiful revelation for me to realize that I could share my thoughts and feelings in an abstract style. I could pour my ache into the creation of something new. This was a crucial step in my recovery.
I’d begun binging and purging as a route to avoid my feelings after the breakdown of my wedding. I had fallen out of love with my husband, and I was carrying a tremendous amount of remorse inside me, constantly feeling as though I’d failed my family and friends by not to be allowed build my relationship work. I disliked myself for walking away from my wedding, for daring to want more.
I was also dealing with intense pressure at work and financial stress, all of which had left me feeling as though everything was out of control.
Bulimia had given me the illusion of control, but it was also a way of penalise myself for not being able to stay in a relationship that everyone else expected me to be content with.
Mental health issues are often accompanied by feelings of disgrace and guilt. We tell ourselves that we should be able to handle everything, that we shouldn’t be placing additional burdens on our loved ones. It’s a self-destructive cycle that has the potential to send us spiraling.
Although creativity doesn’t act as a magical wand, it does give us an opportunity to take a breath and gain a greater understanding of what’s going on internally. We can use creativity as a means of translating ourselves to ourselves.
Photography became a lifeline for me. I could capture texture and darknes, play around with light and motion. I could communicate some of the darkness that was still haunting me, but instead of succumbing to my feelings, I was able to build something from them.
I also began to use poetry and creative writing as tools to help me channel my emotions. The personal value of this was enormous. In creativity I had a friend, a means of telling my own narrative in my own style, and a source of strength and supporting that I could rely upon to be there for me.
Here’s how a creative hobby can help us cope with mental health issues :P TAGEND 1. Creativity reminds us that we have the ability to effect change, and it also helps us be more present.
When we are experiencing mental health challenges it can be easy to fixate on the fear that there won’t be any lighting at the end of the tunnel. When I was dealing with bulimia, I would obsessively weigh myself every morning and each night. If I were away from home, or in a place where I didn’t have access to a bathroom scale, I would feel a sense of rising panic. I couldn’t imagine a hour when I would be free of the need to control my weight.
Immersing ourselves in creativity can help us believe in our ability to heal, grow, and alter because we are actively participating in the production of something new.
Whether it’s baking, gardening, painting, dancing, sculpting or any other creative pursuit, we are taking an idea and breathing life into it.
This not only helps to keep our focus on the present moment, thus alleviating future dreads, but it also devotes us the additional benefit of shaping and impacting an outcome through our efforts.
When we make we are combining imagination and resourcefulness. We are seeing an objective outcome and then taking action to make it happen. This adds to our personal skill set and emboldens us to have the same courage in other areas of our life.
Whenever I’m revisited by old demons that threaten to topple me, I create something. Anything. The act of the creation of assistances me to re-center and focus on my abilities, rather than obsess about my perceived shortcomings. It also helps me step outside myself, change my perspective on my challenges, and remember what’s truly important.
I recently herniated a disc in my back and was unable to practice yoga with as much ease as usual. As I lay on my mat at home one morning, feeling frustrated at my body for failing me, I began to slip into some old self-talk about not being good enough.
But then I noticed the pattern that the sunlight was projecting on the wall beside me. I took my phone and snapped a photograph. As the sun shifted again once more, I was reminded that nothing is static and everything is always changing. My energy automatically lifted.
Creativity teaches me about trust and impermanence, and also expands my sense of awareness. The simple act of witnessing and photographing the moving illuminate was enough for me to remember that each day is full of beauty. I don’t want to miss any of it by wasting my energy on criticizing my body.
2. Creativity enables us to process some of what we’re feeling, without the intensity of putting ourselves under a microscope, and it can also help us meet our needs.
We’re not always ready to closely examine every experience. We’re not always comfortable talking things through, or wading into the depths of our ache or trauma. But we need to work through these feelings, or else they’ll lie beneath the surface, limiting and controlling us.
Creativity can offer us a safe space in which we’re able to release some of our emotional weight without over-analyzing. We eliminate the scrutiny but still receive the benefit of self-connection.
When we’re able to connect with what we’re genuinely feeling–whether it’s anger or regret or disappointment–and then channel that into a creative project, we are less likely to engage in behaviors that are numbing or harmful. Which means we actually work through the feelings instead of only distracting ourselves from them.
Creativity can also be a compass. It’s a way of identifying an inner need, and then permitting ourselves to meet that need.
Perhaps you are craving more vibrancy or flavor in your life. Being creative might entail prefer bright, bold cloths to make a clothing item, or being experimental in the kitchen with new cuisine.
And just as creating something from nothing can help us believe in our ability to create change in other areas of our lives, session some of our needs through creativity can empower us to meet other needs–the need for self-care or boundaries for example.
When we’re struggling with mental health issues, it’s easy to minimize or forget our needs, but this only prolongs our healing. Creativity helps us trust our hunch and follow our instincts. It isn’t inevitably a substitute for therapy, but it can play a pivotal role in helping us build confidence and resilience, ensure that we can both work through how we’re feeling and take good care of ourselves.
3. Creativity enables us to connect with others and construct community.
Common mental health issues such as depression or anxiety can lead to social withdrawal and isolation, increasing feelings of loneliness and heightening the body’s stress responses.
Creativity is a wonderful way to connect with others. Social media platforms provide us with ways to share our ingenuity and trigger dialogue with people who have similar interests. When I first began blogging online I was amazed at how quickly I was able to become part of a supportive community, many of whom I’ve since met in person.
Most libraries or community centers offer group arts and craft classes. These are fantastic opportunities to establish local connects and circle with others. I recently attended a free creative statue workshop at the New York Public Library. I has no such previous experience and my creation was far from perfect–none of that mattered. It felt astonishing to come together with other people and stimulate something.
We are all creative beings. Experimenting with different media can be a wonderful way to find out what triggers pleasure and brings convenience. You don’t have to be an expert. Remember, perfection is not the goal; you’re simply inducing your world a little brighter.
My journey with ingenuity has given me more than I was possible to have anticipated. It may not always change external situations, but inwardly there’s a switching, every single time. An easier breath. A blank canvas and a fresh start. A reminder that I can begin again and again, as many times as necessary. And sometimes that’s all we need to be okay.
