i should discuss with my mom about my shitty phone with the kind of dangerously degraded battery tbh.

i think a battery replacement would probably run around $60-$70 all at once. i found a refurbished phone of the same model for $80, but with a plan to allow payment in four installments. im not sure which would be easier for her financially without asking. i think a battery replacement would be the better idea both because it’s less money overall and because then i wouldn’t have to worry about what to do with the old phone, but paying that much all at once might be hard for us, and planning for eli coming over means there’s already Expenses.

Like ... yeah, sure, I do have to buy a new cell phone every 2 to 4 years because I use the shit out of my phone due to making important phone calls, texting, doing research, making grocery orders, etc. But I also don't spend $500+ on a cell phone, either, because that's just stupid, I think the most I've ever paid for a phone was maybe $150 and it's lasted for about four years now??

Not only that but ... like ... the laptop I'm using right now I have to keep plugged in every single time I use it because the battery only lasts maybe a minute or two unplugged. And you know what?? I'm okay with that because at least it still works. The only way I'm going to be replacing this laptop is when it straight up kicks the bucket because otherwise I'd be spending $500+ on a brand new laptop despite this one working just fine.

have i mentioned how my computer's haunted on blog before? well im gonna list out the hauntings of my PC

neither of the alt keys have worked for several years now (very bad for someone who regularly used adobe programs when in college lmao, but at least i could use the onscreen keyboard). they both stopped working simultaneously which makes me think there's something weird going on software-side since i highly doubt i used both of them an equal amount to the point where both of them would stop functioning at the same time. all of my other keys still work just fine

for a while the battery was expanding causing me to be unable to properly click with the mousepad, only tap to click. this was a known issue with my series of dell laptops and got solved a while back by sending it in for replacement. before i fixed it it got so bad my laptop couldn't technically shut all the way

the computer frequently forgets it can use bluetooth, wifi, or both. like. the drivers just vanish. the icons don't show up in the toolbar at all. it's fixed with a restart

internal speaker drivers have also not worked for several years now. i troubleshooted the hell out of it and it looks like the only thing that'd fix it is a fresh install of the OS. as far as im aware there's nothing wrong with the physical speakers

same with the physical camera & the camera driver not working

for a while night shift wouldn't work at all. as a result i turned it off. however for the last several months (maybe a year now?) my computer has started changing to night shift again at the time i set it to back when i had it active (10pm) unprompted. unfortunately it doesn't automatically shift out of night shift. ever. so i have to restart it to make the orange tint go away. i've just gotten used to shutting down my computer every night

this is probably more in the lines of "i need to clean dust out of my fans" but the fans are fuckin loud man

i have been meaning to do a fresh install of the OS for probably almost 3 years now. i kept not doing it because "oh i need lappytop for college" and then i'd just not do it over the break. tbh at this point i should probably just get a new laptop (like how i should get new headphones because they're reaching the point where i have to twist the wires in a specific way to hear audio anymore) but that seems like too much work

3. Do you like smoothies?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't hate them, but I also sort of associate them with the before-beforetimes, which is not great, and also I don't own a blender. (I used to! And then I loaned it to Ryn to take to work at the eldercare place, and then Ryn quit and forgot to take it with them. And clearly I don't use a blender that much, because that was more than two years ago.)

5. How do you like your eggs?

Scrambled, with salt and pepper, or in an omelet. (or tbh: Starbucks sausage egg muffin, or McDonalds biscuit with sausage and egg)

8. Do you collect anything? If so, what?

I feel like I have several tiny collections: enamel pins, dice (weird dice in particular, altho I haven't added to that collection in a while), squishmallows (mostly inherited), vinyl records (ditto, altho I've been gradually adding to it); I have a little bit remaining of what used to be an extensive Lego collection (most of which I left behind). The thing I feel like I'm most deliberate about collecting is probably art, especially from friends. I LOVE getting friend art. (I have art from several mutuals in my house!) I also love curating and displaying it in my space, doing the whole color/shape/theme arranging thing. It makes me very happy.

13. Do you prefer to write in pen or pencil?

I used to be particular about my pens, and then I took this architectural design summer class like 10 years ago and got really into writing with pencil, and now that's my favorite. I got one of these a few years ago at a museum gift shop and fell in love, and then discovered that a bookstore downtown carries them, and now I am a person who has a favorite pencil.

21. What’s your favorite period in art history, your favorite famous work and/or your favorite style of art? If you don’t know any that’s ok!

Like with trees, I have MANY favorites, but I will say that I imprinted like a tiny baby duck on the Impressionists when I was 9 going on 10 and there was a HUGE exhibit at the LA County Museum of Art. I was obsessed with the Monet haystacks, and with this specific Van Gogh (somewhere I still have a postcard that I got in the gift shop!)

So yes, of course, because I am An Old, but I do have a funny story about that, which is that there was a clock in the office at my last job, that a former employee (who later ended up being my boss, you know the guy I mean) had covered all the numbers with the wrong numbers, and we all just kinda got used to it. Like, he had left before I even got there, and it was still like that when we left the office when the pandemic started almost 8 years later, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's still like that. (I even replaced the battery on it twice, I think.)

FireRed (I remember when my Charmander evolved into Charmeleon. Wow... I have so much love for this one, even if it's been improved upon as a series. Very important to me, very sad I gave it to a friend so that he might get into pokemon as well. And it was lost in a house fire {nobody was hurt}. I want to replace it some day.)

I lied I'm not sleeping I'm drunk and I have to nonsensically ramble

The legs on the build always seemed needlessly complicated to me, bc you can literally just use the trunk as a headboard instead for better support. That way there's far less weight on that portion, and you can just use a wood spacer to support the platform on the top of the seat itself. That's how I've been napping the Subie so far, just equalizing the height between the trunk area and the folded seat.

Lets make the boards at least 1/2" thick OBS, should work fine bc the build is narrow and divide in two. Separate that into two main areas: a "box" covering the trunk, and a flat, even board over the seats and hanging a little over the passenger side rear footspace. There's a lot of support for the surface area, my head and torso would be on the best supported area on the back. I was 6'2", I think I'm about 6'0" but gotta get that remeasured, but I like to cram back against the headboard while I sleep so it really doesn't have to be much longer than I actually am. The trunk area I wanna occupy is minimum bounded by a 38"x25" area- the length of the trunk with the back seats up in length, and the width of the folded down passenger and middle back seats. Fold down the back seats and add another board to extend the platform over them and even it out, and you're gucci. Make it 38" long as well for simplicity sake if you want. 6" clearance beneath lets you put a standard size underbed box in the trunk box area, and also lets you cram the battery pack I'm getting under the folded-down seat area. So you're left with the following boards (in 1/2" OBS):

2x 38"x24" (main boards)

2x 38"x6" (sides of the "trunk box")

1x 23"x6" (back of the "trunk box", fits right at the border of the trunk and the folded down seat)

1x 24"x4.5" (support spacer between the second main board and the head of the folded down seat, there's a slight incline)

There's a home depot near me, they sell 4'x8' OSB boards for 25 bucks a pop, with free cutting. All of this can be cut from that single board, with lots to spare.

From there, all I need are a coupla door hinges to fold the two main boards together, wood glue, and wood screws (which I have lying around bc I made a simple support for The Creatures UV light fixture)

pessimistic, rounding up estimates- wood glue around 5 bucks, hinges about 5 each, lets call it 15. There's also an optional thing I can do- if the bedframe seems too loose and slidey in the car, there are screw points directly to the frame that are usually used for trunk barriers, but can be unscrewed and used for other affixation things. I could add a basic bracket or summin, lets say that all my rounding up in cost accommodates that.

so we're looking at a total cost for the frame only at about $50 in diy.

Now again, the REI one also has something of a mattress. It looks really uncomfortable tbh but I'm assuming I would save on that. So lets slap on $100 budget for narrow twin trifold, rollable, or camp mattress, and we're looking at a ludicrously pessimistic $150 for diy in total to replace everything that REI has.

Plus lesbian cred, plus a nice project that shouldn't take longer than a weekend day, plus the inherent eroticism of rooting around in the insides of a machine with a roaring muscley 6 cylinder 3.6 liter AWD engine that you've named after the largest Trex skeleton ever found.

Then again, the REI one does have that adjustability, and it looks pretty robust. But is it $200 of price difference worth it for a brokeass grad student? Probably not.

So, I did a thing because I was bored. I drew a little bit of everyone's things.

First thing you should know about are Power Crystals. They work kinda like magic but they need an outlet to work. Like uh, battery in phone 👀. Smth like that. Their power diminishes as you use the item, but they can recharge. A cooldown. The larger the attack, the longer the cooldown. You can tell how much power they have from their brightness. Brightest = Max Capacity. They can be replaced, but they'll only do it if necessary. Extra crystals in their lil pouches. But Pinkie's is uhh... in the bag lmao.

Power Crystals can't be used by just anyone really. They need to 'bond' with their user to be used effectively. Once they are bonded, users can will it to use its power. Example is Pinkie's canon: she can blast her enemies away with a push of her button which is like sending a signal of sorts :p

This is Blue's. I redid his sword and gave him a gun (which I based off a glock lmao).

His sword has 2 Power Crystals. One of the wings is chipped off. Initially I wanted to remove it but I remembered that I made it so that the wing actually saved BF from getting his neck cut open :p. The music note is one of the Power Crystals, the second at the base. The other glowing things are decorative.

The gun has 2 Power Crystals too. The sword's crystals are meant to be enchantments while the gun's is a replacement for bullets. Blue can shoot his enemies with a weak or a strong blast of energy. Ot has stickers on it-

He has a Pass Card. Kinda like a visitors card but to the Adventure Time's universe. The Candy Kingdom specifically because Blue is from FNF. Just a telling to other citizens that those who have the card are trustworthy.

The necklace is used as a light signal and a tracker. To flash out into the sky the specific symbol if help is needed. And to locate the others if they're unable to flash it at the moment, or if it cannot be seen. I havent actually worked out how they can 'activate' the tracker feature but hey, I'm still thinking on it.

For Blue, he has his mic yeah? I thought that it might be worn out after everything they've been through. Yeah, i like to think he uses it for distractions sometimes too. I didnt know how I was going to implement a new mic until I got some inspiration from somewhere. It is slightly smaller than his hand, and fits inside the right side of his headset. Its where it is stored at. So anytime he needs to rap battle just, open up the right headset like a door, take the mic, and close the door- 😂

Pibby's.

I also redid her rapier and gave her a secondary weapon. A shortsword, or just a sword i haven't decided. The rapier, her main weapon, has 2 Power Crystals as well. The sword is something I saw her use in my dreams. It had fold into itself to look like the one on the right, or extended out to look like the one on the left. In the drawing its currently 'activated', which means the power crystal on the handle is powering it. Deactivated is without the extra pink. And it has heart stickers.

She has her trusty Medkit too, which is 100% needed. At this point, when they get their new stuff its practically the final battle. Shits gonna go dooown. Pibby has the most medical experience so she holds on to it. She's attached to it. Pass card and Necklace has been explained.

Finn & Jake

Unfortunately I couldn't think of much for them :( so this is what they have. If I think they need anything else I'll add it in. Tbh I don't think they need other things.

Redid Finn's sword too. And Jake's hammer now has colours which I struggled on. Both weapons has 2 Power Crystals on it. I kinda regret not having a lil orange on Finn's sword because I put blue in Jake's to represent Finn in a way. Sad. Necklace has been explained.

Pinkie's

Hers is the canon, now with colors. 1 large Power Crystal which cannot be fit into a pouch. It has two modes, Wheel and Stand. Its self-explanatory really. Wheel mode activates the wheels, pushing it out of its place and down. Stand mode has... stands. Its most useful if she needs careful aiming. There's scope but I'm not sure if Pinkie really needs it lol. The button is to launch attacks. There is a panel below the button. There's several uses to it, but the main one is to preset specific attacks that Pinkie wants to use. The part in the middle of the firing area is where confetti can explode out of with her attack. Its... her decision to want it in. Also stickers. Necklace and Pass card has been explained.

so my car battery died earlier this week and tbh it needed to be replaced years ago but i'm a piece of shit who really shouldn't have a car so i never got it replaced

well it died and i've been walking to work all week, my roommate took me to autozone to get a new battery because from the tutorials online it didn't seem like it should be too terribly hard, plus i'm a lesbian so i should be handy and i'm an aries with adhd so i think i can do anything and don't back down from a challenge

buuuut apparently my car was stupidly designed because when i looked at videos specifically for my car type the comments were full of people cursing the engineers who designed it bc it's so stupid and you need very specific tools THAT I DONT EVEN HAVE

why did i think this was a good idea??
