Ahh YEAH!! First of all: Happy Birthday, anon! (I also got your follow up ask- thank you so much for the kind words! <3) My first Death Note debut!!! I'm so excited- I had fun with this one! :D I hope you like it!

“Light. Are you ticklish?” The question was completely out of nowhere- cutting through the silence of the office. It must have been around 2 am by now; otherwise known as “the witching hour” where L asked obscure questions without fail. Yesterday was about his opinion on oranges vs tangerines. Tonight, this.

“Why do you want to know?” Was this a test to see if he were kira? He had to tread carefully.

“I read a study recently where out of 84 college students surveyed, 32% of them enjoy being tickled. The remaining 68% were either neutral or hated it.” L’s eyes bored into him, making Light lean back some. “You’re a college student. I’m curious to see where you fall within those statistics.”

Odd. But that was L’s trademark nature. “I suppose I’m indifferent about it? Granted, I’m not ticklish, so I couldn’t give you a definite answer.” L’s forehead furrowed, the closest thing to raising a brow given he barely had any. “What?”

“I don’t believe you.” So blunt!

“Well, I’m not asking for your faith in that.” Light rolled his eyes as he turned back to his computer. Sure, it may have stun a little; likely due to the late hour-

A jab to the ribs made him jerk back, scooting as far as the chains allowed. L blinked at him slowly. “Oh? I thought you weren’t ticklish?”

“I-I thought I wasn’t?” Damn him! How dare he- “Cut that out!”

“You are ticklish. Good, this is beneficial. Now- where would you say you fall in the stats?” L pulled him closer, one hand gripping Light’s chair while the other carried on squeezing the brunette’s side. “Are you enjoying this? Hating it? Neutral? Your opinion would be very useful.”

“Whahahhat- whehehe’re not coohohonduuhuhucting a stuhuhudy! Aheahhaaha, Ryuzahahaki!” Light scooted as far back into the chair as he could, kicking L’s own to put distance between them. It did nothing- why was this guy so strong? “Coohohme ohohohn, thihihis is sohohohoho stuhuuhpid!”

“Hmm, you say that, but you’re not fighting back, nor are you asking me to stop.” L tilted his head curiously as he scooted closer, smiling at the sight. “I’m starting to suspect you might be enjoying this.”

Instead of dignifying that with a response, Light chose violence. 

With a tug of the chain, he twisted as hard as he could. The momentum sent their chairs tipping, both men yelping in surprise. They crashed to the ground unceremoniously, groaning.

And thus concluded another night of L’s witching hour.

deeply respect people who write fix-it fanfics because my instinctual reaction is always the complete opposite. I will look at something I love to my very bones and think "hmmm...this could be more fucked up, how about I make everything worse, that seems fun". like some kind of mad unethical evil scientist experimenting on the people I love the most.

imagine how Mello felt after being the best at Wammy’s for years, the best contender to succeed L, one of the only people there to have ever MET L in person. He knew what he was going to be with his future, his whole LIFE! Then Near turns up. And suddenly this random younger kid is beating him effortlessly, putting in none of the work and dedication that he did, and this person has none of Mello’s flaws, none of his emotions or impulsivity or anything else he was criticised for. All at once the place he was king of was oppressive and cold. He was just another random, nameless Wammy’s kid.

His whole LIFE had been taken from him. Then L dies and he’s told to ‘just get along’ with the person that robbed him unflinchingly of his life’s goal? i understand why he left.
