Does anyone else get the sense that Matsuda is still deeply conflicted by Light's warehouse confession and further consumed by guilt due to the fact that he reacted so violently towards said confession, thus, he's trying to craft a narrative in which Near is the big bad manipulator in this whole thing?
Matsuda really does love the Yagami family so much and he ADORES Light, admires him, looks out for him like a brother. When Kira shed the mask it came at such a shock his gut instinct is to just "KILL IT I HAVE TO KILL THIS BASTARD." I know he grappled with that sequence of events years later, that HE was the one who shot Light first, that HE wanted to kill Light right then and there.
So what's his coping mechanism? Place the blame on Near - this distant, aloof, unknown kid who brought on this "unhappiness"
Matsuda still holding onto so much hatred of Near years later because of his subconscious desire to still care deeply about Light despite everything… oaughhhhh
