Song Number One on my Mello Playlist and Why I Added It

Киетка by Молчат Дома (Molchat Doma).

Молчат Дома is a Belarusian band and Mello is Slavic to me. If I had to be real specific I'd say Croatia — this is where the name Mihael is most commonly used. Sure, Keehl is not a Croatian surname, but maybe his grandfather was Irish. Who cares.

"Knock on that door / And no one will open for you / Run fool"

I feel like this line especially relates to his time at Wammy's House, and how he was likely isolated — aside from Matt, and Near I guess — as well as how he runs away from it all.

"Down the stairwell, through the notes on the walls / Forgotten forever"

This ties into my thoughts about him and Matt, and could be taken as either one's perspective. For Mello, this would be him leaving Wammy's, and therefore the memories associated with it. For Matt it would be similar — though instead of leaving, he's trying to remember things about Mello that he keeps stored away. It could also be taken more literally, about love letters gifted to each other.

"Inexplicable like me"

Mello likely struggled, at least for a bit, to disconnect his sense of self with who he was being trained to become. It's possible that he found it hard to describe who he was, rather than the concept of "L".

"On which floor are they waiting for us?"

If you refuse to look at anything literally you can do whatever you want. I have decided that this line is about Mello trying to ascend to L's level, and wondering how much it will take to get there.

"Where without knock I will enter"

Entering without knocking relates to how he chose to live his own way, instead of following the instructions given to him anymore and throwing away his chance to be one of the Ls.

He could easily become hot-tempered if Mello perceived someone as a threat.

Mello knows he's putting you in danger by dating you.

However, he can't stay away from you.

Tenderness would be a new thing for Mello.

You and L would meet before he became the best detective in the world.

It was a sweet crush at first.

Pretty normal relationship.

You went on a lot of dates in different cafes.

Your relationship would change when L became the world's best detective.

L would like to protect you.

A lot of people would want to hurt him in some way and they would stop at nothing.

L would share all the sweets with you.

However, maybe not as much sugar for you as for him.

L's sleep rhythm would be really bad and only you could change it XD

You should also make sure that he remembers to eat properly.

L wouldn't be the best to take care of himself.

L would usually be able to concentrate better in your presence.

Sometimes L would also ask your opinion on his work matters.

It would help him more than you know.

Day 3: New beginnings for @mattmelloweek

Saw a twitter post about Near and L with the "do I look like him?" caption and it got me to feel so viscerally sad because... he does. He does look like L. The similarities are so uncanny that, had I not known they're not related, I would have guessed they are. And not just appearance too... some of his mannerisms, the way he speaks and reasons... all of Near is haunted by the traces of a man he has never even met.

It's not really surprising: he was groomed by Wammy's to be just like L. He never really rejected that notion, either; he just embraced it as something that has always been part of him, because how could he refuse something that was there from the beginning? He was just a kid. A very young one at that.

But someone who did reject that was Mello. Or, rather, he felt rejected by that system, so he turned his back on it -- at least partially. The effects of it are still felt even in its rejection - his visceral hatred of Near being a lampant example. But I wonder if that rejection, that search for individuality, is what made Near so endeared to Mello in spite of the other very openly hating him.

Mello became his own person and Near, forever bound to be one of two parts of L, admired that. Because he couldn't do it.

Think carefully, chat. Mello is obviously a menace and EXTREMELY easy to provoke but you also have to consider what a menace L was to Wammy’s

Not even an hour in and the fucker was already beating other kids up. Imagine this sickly looking weird child showing up to your orphanage and when you try to fuck with him he beats the shit out of you and everyone in a 5 foot radius with absolutely no visible change in emotion. I would be 90% sure that is an scp that breeched containment

That being said, Mello was also a menace and likes to play with guns and bombs.

His little mugshot alone definitely gives kid who chased people with knives vibes. Roger definitely had to disarm him at least twice every day.

And he would also fuck with other kids for fun.

Imagine having a on again/off again relationship with post-Kira AU Mello who

-Really shouldn't be involved with you and lives a life way too busy and dangerous to commit to a serious relationship, but can't ignore the chemistry you two have.

-Is weirdly vague about what he does for a living (because he's in the mob) but you're smart enough to figure out early on that it's less than legal, and eventually it becomes an open secret.

-Repeatedly bootycalls you, spends the night, and then disappears for days or weeks. Partially because he's in the mob, partially because he panics every time he starts to feel himself developing serious feelings for you.

-Likes to buy you gifts (especially to apologize for disappearing again) and has even gotten you matching couple's accessories despite his insistence that what you two have is casual. Just don't ask where he got the money for that bracelet from Tiffany's (cough drug ring cough).

-Slowly opens up to you a little about his past as he starts to trust you - losing his parents, growing up in an orphanage, the pressure to be the best in an institution full of brilliant children, and you slowly start to understand why Mello is the way he is.

-Shows rare glimpses of uncharacteristic vulnerability that make you realize he gives way more of a shit than he acts like he does (both about you and in general).

-Let the L word slip one time when you two were having drunk sex. He hoped you wouldn't remember (you did).

-Gets unexpectedly affectionate and cuddly in the afterglow of sex for a few minutes until he comes to his senses and remembers he's not supposed to get too attached to you....even though he definitely is.

-Hesitates the first time you touch his burn scars when you're lying in bed together. He'll never say it out loud, but he's insecure about them. No one else has ever touched them before, but he doesn't pull away. Over time, he actually begins to like it - that you don't hesitate to touch his scars and don't treat them like they're off-putting or repulsive.

-Feels really shitty for hurting you whenever he disappears and knows you deserve better, tells you you deserve better, but can't seem to stop coming back to you no matter how hard he tries because you might be the only uncorrupted thing in his life and one of the only people he's ever felt safe letting his guard down around.
