I keep thinking about how Ivan wanting to be used—“consumed”—by Till is so indicative of his view on the world, and I don’t just mean his low self-esteem. 

Ivan has a very pessimistic outlook on his life as a human pet, understandably so, and it doesn’t seem like he believes that he can ever radically change his circumstances but only make them temporarily more bearable by complying with the Segyein’s demands. This is why he was initially fascinated and later fell for Till, because of his rebelliousness and willingness to stand up for himself and fight back, something that Ivan does not believe he can ever do. But we do see Ivan doing this when he decides to go behind the Segyein’s backs and free Till from their punishments, we see this culminate into Ivan wanting to escape fully with Till during the meteor show scene. Till brings out hope in Ivan.

However, this is where the disillusionment begins, because Till turns back, and Ivan follows because he loves Till and doesn’t want to leave him behind in that cage, but also because he's associated that feeling with him. They go back, and nothing changes. They’ve reentered the loop and cannot truly move forward. The best Ivan can do for himself is play the role he’s been given, and the best he can do for Till is to help him whenever he’s been punished. Ivan watches as Till’s rebelliousness is twisted by their oppressors into something marketable for the masses, just like all other areas of their lives. If Ivan is destined to be exploited and inevitably tossed aside once he can no longer be profited off of, then he at least wants to be torn apart by the one he adores and holds most dear. This is the last bit of hope Till can extract from Ivan, one last rebellious act towards the ones that have harmed him, releasing him from this cycle. He looks at Till and thinks, “I want you to kill me before the world does.”

I dunno, man, I just think it's a fun angle to think that he's a nasty, selfish, cruel, petulant manchild who thinks and feels nothing about hurting others, because it just doesn't occur to him that anybody experiences pain. Have fun with it, my dudes! Maybe he IS a sadist, just in the 'look at the faces they make when you step on their neck! :) They're so cute!' way. I don't think it absolves him of blame for what he does - in fact, I've always really enjoyed characters who are simultaneously a tragic product of their upbringing, AND actively committing heinous acts.

omg heyyyy basically it turns out hes more of a clueless accidentally rapey (and frankly easily age regressible) simp and Not a saddom yandere top which honestly is a victory for me because now ivan is the only yandere rapist in alien stage and I never really cared as much about luka lmao

With the current arc taking as much time as it is, leaving the anime with nothing to adapt until it finishes, I feel like the obvious solution to the lack of anime content would be to just... remake season one. They could probably squeeze out 3 or 4 seasons from that alone, and remakes like Fruits Basket and Ranma 1/2 have proved that improved revamps are well-received and will garner an audience.

The new first season could be the intro arc + the black trigger retrieval arc, ending with Jin offering to recommend Miwa as a candidate for Fujin. The second season would be the whole Aftokrator invasion arc, ending with the press conference and Osamu's announcement of retrieving the kidnapped vitctims. I'm just not sure how to divvy up the first part of the tournament arc. There are four rounds, so logically, it would make sense to divide it up with two rounds per season, like seasons 2 and 3 did, buuuut round 1 was a curb-stomp sweep in Tamakoma-2's favor that would barely take up a quarter of an episode. So I think it might make the most sense to squeeze all four rounds into one season. Season 2 was the Galopoula arc + rounds 5 and 6, so bundling the four rounds into one season sounds feasible, given that Very Short first round.

RE your tags about your luka fan moots mourning: I hope they don't mourn for long, cause honestly isn't it way more chilling and interesting that instead of being a manipulative dom, he just completely lacks any understanding of human emotions? Isn't it cool and haunting that he can kill someone without any warning, and then smile and run to play with his favourite person without a second thought, regardless of the horrified look on her face? Isn't it more fucked up and neat that, despite having no personal understanding of human emotions, he STILL intentionally invoked Ivan's images and choreography during the round with Till? Whether he just did what his handlers told him to do, or just likes to mimic people for the fun of watching their faces go funny, that's SO interesting to me. The unspeakable cruelty and inhumanity of a child stomping on ants. More like the aliens that keep them than his human peers. Nightmarish innocence, dude! The unsullied and thoughtless evil of a man-shota!
