If we never broke our promise to Sun not to do anything reckless... If we never suspected anything... if our heart was filled with nothing but acceptance of their actions... if we just allowed Sun to make our last days also our warmest days... How could he still find it in his metaphorical heart to slay us?

Because the story isn't about you. The story isn't about the counselors, either. It isn't even about Sun or Moon.

This story is about ghosts. It's about grief that cannot be so easily healed with time alone. It is about loose wires, old photos, blood stains, friendship bracelets, broken promises, and regrets with no where to go but into the hilt of a knife.

Since we've now reached the point of no return in our route, I'm going to tell you about the Bad End.

In this route, Sun succeeds. He and Moon successfully kill every counselor until only you remain. You aren't a part of this, were never supposed to be a part of this, and for that, you are spared. Sun gives you directions to the next town over and tells you to scram. Whether or not you choose to listen is mostly irrelevant; if you leave, your story ends there. If you fight Sun on the decision and stay, you become the final victim. He makes it quick. He holds you gently through it all, staining your face with the oil that escapes his cheeks. Tells himself that this is for the best.

He doesn't want you to see what happens next.

There is no convincing Sun to come back with you, no celebration over their success, no grand revelation about the meaning of life, death, and retribution.

Because they are fulfulling an empty promise to themselves. They are attempting to fill the hole in their chest with the only idea they have left.

But this, too, leaves them feeling empty. The hole remains. It will not cease to exist with the death of the counselors because they were only a contributor, not the source. The satisfaction that Sun and Moon achieve with their deaths is artificial and fleeting. All too soon, that grief rears its ugly head again, and this time it brings with it new weight. They stand as the sole survivor of a great tragedy.

But the job is done. Their final task completed. Survival outside of this mission was and is painful, it's tedious, it's empty, and with the counselors' death there now remains no reason for them to continue.

Moon sets the forest ablaze. Sun gathers any last momentoes that remind him of the good days. Together, they retreat to their cabin — dark, dirty, long since abandoned — and they climb onto the bed, and hug their small box of memories close to their chest, and pull the fragile wire that keeps their charge from depleting. And they wait.

And for the first time in a decade, they experience peace.

(the jason one is in reference to the fanon headcanon/au that Jason and Damian potentially knew each other and interacted while jason was in the league. I've thought about it before in context of this au, but haven't thought about it enough to feel inspired or motivated to make a post exploring the idea)

(diablito means, as you can guess, 'little devil'. while i'm neutral to latino jason, i think the nickname is cute as fuck and was danny's main nickname from Jason. i don't wanna touch that timeline so im not gonna decide how old they were when Jason was there.)

anyways that was the day that Skulker cemented himself as Danny's no.1 opp, and still remains there to this day even if he and Vlad are both viciously fighting for second. Out of everyone in the the AP rogues gallery, Skulker will be the first to be thrown under the bus in terms of 'o shit here comes phantom fucking RUN'.

The blorbos <3333 I've had some weird art block for a while now, and I started these two a while ago and was really happy with them but just ran out of motivation. So, I figured I'd let them see the light of day as WIPs so that people can still appreciate them bc I still do really love how they are turning out <3 I still very much want to finish them but I am, as many artists are, at the whim of a fickle sense of motivation </3

I'm only halfway through the second phase of Predathos (which, to be clear is an incredible vibe for a bossfight, love a good head & hands/multitarget-same-entity boss) but I cannot shake the feeling of disappointment and just dissatisfaction I have had with this campaign that definitely started with Dusk/Yu, got followed up handily with the first Delilah/Sun Tree fight and then has been unfortunately reinforced with every discussion surrounding the Prime Deities since Hearthdell. This campaign is fascinating to pick apart, I have been really enjoying pulling apart why it isn't working compared to C1 or C2. But as much as I'm having fun dissecting where the worldbuilding has led to the current weaknesses in the gods' argument or reading other people's incisive commentary on the lack of personalities on the Ruby Vanguard's end, the "girlfailure" nonsense, etc etc, man do I wish this campaign was better than it is.

There are so many avenues of improvement -

Matt telling everyone to prep and write characters for this campaign instead of a C2-esque character-focused campaign.

Matt working religious organisations into the world properly.

The cast engaging with Marquet as a genuine location rather than set-dressing.

Otohan, Ozo and the rest of the Vanguard having more than "*insert snappy line here*" for their personalities.

No Delilah.

Bell's Hells having an iota of curiosity for anything outside of their own selves, including but not limited to: the gods, religious worship, the Elemental Titans and why they were sundered, how the people of Exandria feel about the gods, Vasselheim and its role in suppressing information about Predathos, Ludinus Da'Leth's plan and how it would still break the world if they did it in his place

I don't know why all of this fell into place in the way that it did, but it did. We can endlessly speculate why - the cast resting on their laurels after C2, not having enough time between the animated shows and Daggerheart and Candela Obscura and, and, and - but at the end of the day I really do hope that whatever form the final campaign wrap-up takes, they burn the damn questions asking the cast "what if the world was made of pudding and this character and this character kissed?" and instead pick questions that get them to introspect for a potential Campaign 4. Otherwise I don't know what will happen, but it sure as hell won't be Mighty Nein part 2: Issylra Boogaloo.
