Some more comments on the demo.
I'm not able to play it because I don't have a PS5 and there won't be one in the cards for a while, but I at least found a good, thorough playthrough that didn't have some streamer yammering over the dialogue, so that will have to do.
I'm writing as a I watch, so there's gonna be a lot here.
Cut for Rebirth spoilers (and a Game of Thrones one) and length.
-I loved seeing Sephiroth act and speak so casually! Back then, he really was just a guy, huh?
-And holy crap, is that seriously Caleb Pierce doing the voice of Shinra Security Officer Who Is Actually Cloud? Kinda on the nose, but I like it. Maybe in Cloud's dumpster fire of a psyche, not only does he remember being the SOLDIER 1st Class, but he remembers Zack as being the security guard.
-OMFG, Master Zangan! LOL, this fuckin guy. Three seconds after meeting Cloud he's feeling him up! And man, he's got some huge Patrick Warburton energy going on.
-Only three beds in the room at the inn? Guess one of the boys is gonna have to double up with Sephiroth.
-Let me just state for the record that I really like Cloud as a character. That said, when he was a teenager? He was, uh...a wee bit of a creeper. His favorite spot to hang out just happens to face what I assume is Tifa's bedroom window. And what does he do when he knows he's alone in the house? Goes into her bedroom and starts going through her stuff. At least the ladies called his ass out for that this time, because that sequence never did sit right with me.
-I'll bet Sephiroth was ready to buy Random Villager Guy a drink. RVG keeping those looky loos and stans away like a champ! He even had to keep them away from the INN! I really understand why he wanted nothing to do with the "hero" role. Yep, let Genesis go be the Taylor Swift of the FFVII-verse and see how HE likes it.
-Tifa is so tiny next to Sephiroth! Then again, everyone is. Dude's a freakin' TANK.
-Wow, that photographer's an even bigger asshole this time around. Seriously, dude? Taking a picture not only without Sephiroth's permission but when his back is turned?
-The "oh...FINE!" body language when Cloud asked, though.
-And I reiterate. Sephiroth. SUCH a bro here. All I hear is Clark Kent when he talks.
-So it just occurred to me that Sephiroth was deliberately the first one to fall in the river because he knew he'd have to save everyone and he didn't even know how far of a drop it was. That bridge collapsed under the sheer weight of his balls.
-And his horror and devastation at losing one of his men will never not gut me. Everyone was dry by the time he got back, so you know he was out there looking for that dude for a LONG time, too. That's a huge change from "sorry for your luck, pal, but we have a mission to finish." That's what makes his tragic fall all the more inexplicable. In the OG, his coldness had you thinking "yeah, I can see this guy having a Face-Heel Turn easy." But here? With him so protective of those weaker than him and his emotional investment in his people? You don't go from that to "burn them all," even when a severe mental breakdown is involved. I may talk more about this later. ("Oh. Yay." --everybody)
-*Sephiroth has joined the party*-
-Serious question: is there anything in the lore that I missed that states there's no PPE that can protect from mako? Because when Sephiroth said "mako this thick is very dangerous," I thought "maybe bring some respirators next time then?" Yeah, probably no NIOSH rating high enough to filter out spirit energy.
-Yep, definitely no love lost between Seph and the sperm donor.
-Yeah, Barret, it's not making a whole lot of sense to me either at this point.
-"Am I even...human?" Fuck. It's going even harder in Rebirth.
-And the library sequence. Double fuck. The rage in his voice at the end. The madness. And that strange breathing after he glitched? I'll bet he was trying to fight off Jenova and he failed. Sorry, Vincent, but I think Seph is the one that should be able to take out Hojo.
Aaaand that's enough self-imposed psychological torture for the day. I can't watch what comes next.
Jenova used his anger, his devastation and his sleep deprivation to get a toehold. Which makes me think, what if in the trilogy's lore she started piloting him? No, I don't mean controlling his mind or even heavily influencing him? What if she's using him as a vessel? I mean like the deities, angels and demons on Supernatural. She's driving the boat now, and he's in the back of his mind screaming, because he's aware of the things she's making her new meat suit do and he can't stop it.
I'm not trying to let anyone's dirty rotten CGI girlfriend-ganking butt off the hook here if anyone wants to accuse me of that sort of thing. I'm merely saying that burning a village full of innocents is not the actions to expect from the Sephiroth we've come to know in the demo. Yes, he's a SOLDIER who has probably had to do some very unpleasant things under orders, but there was no reason for this. Going from zero to genocide straight out of the blue is inexplicable, I don't care how bad the mental breakdown was.
It's just the only thing that makes sense at this point. People like him get angry, sure. They rage, sure. They swear vengeance on the people who wronged them, sure. But they don't kill innocent people because of it and in such a horrific way. At their most violent, they may find Hojo and try to see how loudly and for how long he can scream.
Bog standard villains don't get this kind of "good guy" lead up to their nefarious deeds, and he's getting that treatment big time from both Rebirth and Ever Crisis. That's usually only reserved for the Chaotic Neutral and redeemable types that were supposed to like. There's nothing in that backstory so far to suggest that he was capable of a Nibelheim-level mass murder. Sure, there's headcanons that he was just a fuse waiting to be lit, but nothing official even hints at that. This came out of NOWHERE.
Maybe I'm not seeing the big picture or whatever, but the extreme change in behavior, the senseless violence...why would FFVII do that to the audience? To torture us? That's just cruel. Even Game of Thrones didn't do the audience that dirty with Danaerys Targaryen (if you didn't see her Face-Heel Turn coming from a mile away, you were watching a different show than me, because she was always a Heel. She just brutalized people who had it coming until King's Landing.).
And I'm out. If you've managed to stick around this long or even read this at all, thank you. If you want to argue, please save it for another day because I'm REALLY not in the mood. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go drink. A lot.

Good day sir. Hope I'm not bothering you My brother and I are rewatching The grim adventures and it's been fun. Miss cartoons that were just plain random fun. I'm curious about 3 things if I may ask - Jeff the Spider's design changed a few times, his first appearance was more simple, his second appearance was more detailed and gross looking, then after that he went back to a simple design. Was it because the "gross" design was too hard to animate? - I've noticed in some episodes a few characters with glasses would have green eyes, similar to Nergal Junior. Was there a miscommunication with the animation team? - Lastly, is there anything you wish you could've done differently in Billy and Mandy? Like doing certain episodes or characters different? Just retrospective sorta stuff I know this is probably asking a lot, but I just want you to know you're a great source of inspiration and one of the many reasons why I love spooky supernatural content. Keep up the good fight
Hey!
#1:
The reason that most of the characters changed over time was because I updated the models to help the overseas studios (and our own internal artists) get things on-model. I'll go deeper into Billy & Mandy's history with designs in "Billy & Mandy vs. The Entertainment Industry", but I went from wanting to allow artists to have complete freedom to tightening things down as time went on. The smart play would've to develop solid models first and then explain how, when, and why you can break the rules. That's the opposite of what we did.
Jeff was a more complicated character than most, with his double-mandible, multiple eyes, and eight limbs. I suspect that what happened in this case was that the overseas studio either didn't keep or didn't share the original Jeff model with their teams, and instead only used the "special pose" model of Jeff looking gross. Like a lot of the model stuff, it was a quality control issue. Back then when everything was analog (we still had to deliver on film up through the turn of the century) it was pretty hard to change anything once it had been done. So I'd always say, "next time" and then do a clarity pass over the designs.
#2.
Same deal. In the first few seasons, we had analog color correction, where you'd go to a big suite and some guy would run picture and you'd call out anything big that was bugging you. Chances are that we either didn't notice the error, or did and just couldn't do anything about it.
All of those early Mandy smiles were put in overseas, and I wasn't allowed to fix them. It bugged me so much that I vowed to find a way to fix stuff like that myself. I eventually figured out that I could export individual frames to Photoshop, tweak them, and then give them back to the editor. That way I could actually reanimate things that really bugged me but we didn't have the budget to fix.
#3.
Nah. It's fine.
Thanks and good luck!

stop calling mephone4 a child.
my credentials(/silly): mephone4’s biggest fan + someone who sees mephone as representative of myself. i am also an autistic adult. (relevant)
i went on an autistic tirade rambling about this in a discord server but i wanted to compile my reasoning and stuff here into a tumblr post because this is very important to me.
alright. lets start with the most commonly used argument.
calling mephone a child is ableist.
now i certainly agree that some children CAN act the way mephone does. however, i think it’s harmful when your ONLY argument as to why he is a child is ‘because he cant spell’ or ‘because he creates fantasy worlds in his brain as a means of escapism.’
I think the issue is, we are reducing these very real symptoms of mental disorders to ‘oh he’s just acting childish,’ instead of understanding them for what they are. autism and dyslexia are not cured the second you turn 18. it doesn’t work that way. giving in to the stereotype that only children can act this way… i dunno man. it really rubs me the wrong way.
i think it’d be better to view him as an adult with these symptoms because, well, VERY rarely do we ever get representation of an adult with mental disorders in media. at least not in a way thats not villainizing them or mocking/infantilizing them. (sidebar, mephone IS NOT THE VILLAIN. he did bad things, yes, and should be held accountable for it, but he is NOT. THE VILLAIN. he is an abuse victim, and his way of acting is actually very good representation of the way abuse victims may go on to mimic actions of their abuser.) cobs (mephone’s abuser btw) LITERALLY infantilizes mephone IN CANON. IN THE SHOW. WHY ARE YOU LISTENING TO COBS. WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE COBS.
bro didnt go to school
i didnt know how to title this section. basically, people reducing him to a child because he doesn’t know adult things are MISSING THE POINT.
HE WAS RAISED BY COBS.
do you think cobs had ANY interest in teaching him ANYTHING about the real world? about how to be an adult? about how to ride a bike or pay taxes? NO. dude popped into existence knowing nothing except what Cobs WANTED him to know. he was meant to just work for Cobs and do tasks all the time and that was IT. OF COURSE his knowledge is going to be limited to what Cobs taught him. that DOES NOT make someone a child. GO REWATCH THE SHOWWWW.
suspend your disbelief for once in your life oh my god
i dont understand how people are able to suspend disbelief for LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE in fiction. such as murder/death, supernatural creatures, the universe itself as a whole, etc. but when it comes to age, the real world standards MUST be applied, no exception. Like since Mephone was canonically created 14 years ago in-universe that means he is 14 years old. we are completely ignoring the fact he is a fictional talking sentient phone robot for a minute.
and adding in the ‘he acts like a child’ argument for a second… season 1. what 1 year old do you know that can walk and talk and create an entire game show?? he has practically acted the EXACT SAME WAY his entire existence, therefore that argument falls completely flat.
it would be DIFFERENT if in-universe they had established rules, where this age means this and that age means that, but the ii universe DOES NOT HAVE THAT. meaning people are free to interpret age however they want. it would ALSO be different if mephone was canonically stated to be a child (we’re getting to that) OR portrayed to be childcoded. which…. he isn’t.
okay so by these rules all of the contestants are younger than mephone.
the agreement amongst child mephone believers seems to be ‘creation date = birth date = real age’. so bot is like 3 years old. the unvitationals are like 2. all the contestants are somewhere between like 4-14. but wait- some season 1 contestants ACT older or younger than the others? no. no theyre ALL 13-14 only. no exceptions. every newbie in season 3 is like 4-5. every newbie in season 2 is like 10. makes perfect sense.
do you understand how ridiculous that is. WE CANNOT , i repeat, CANNOT APPLY REAL WORLD STANDARDS TO A FICTIONAL UNIVERSE. oh my god. they are holograms. they are robots. they are in a weird plane floating in the vastness of space that has a picnic table that can generate food, and the ability to revive dead people, and ghosts and talking corn and. and all of THAT is fine. but god forbid someone interpret the talking phone as an adult. I DONT GET IT.
b-b-but cobs called mephone a child…
once again, common arguement. i strike thee down with a ‘MANIPULATION TACTIC.’ i feel like this has been covered enough and better in other mephone rambles so im not gonna get into it.
personal section
this is more of a personal experiences and opinions thing. less based on fact. agree or disagree idc this is just my experience.
once again, like i stated in the beginning, i see myself in mephone. a lot. I am an adult. i have autism. i have the tendency to act ‘childish’ sometimes due to my condition. im bad at being an adult. i struggle with tasks that are probably easy for other adults. i’m not a child. it’s very disheartening- i WANT to be viewed as an independent functioning adult, despite my condition, but when even a FICTIONAL PHONE who acts just like i do gets reduced to ‘child’ because he acts similarly to someone who’s mentally ill and has been abused. it HURTS MAN. he’s just trying his best:[
anyways conclusion
idc. you can headcanon whatever you want cause technically nothing is confirmed, but this is more food for thought for the people immediately jumping on the ‘child mephone’ bandwagon.
unless someone is canonically stated to be a child or is very heavily child coded, i don’t think its wrong for people to interpret them as an adult.
if sometime in the future mephone is canonically confirmed to be a child like. in universe. ill probably be disappointed.
i am a firm believer in age doesnt work the same way in ii as it does in our universe. theyre all fictional creatures. they were not created by conventional means. you dont have to apply our world’s standards to it.
anyways uhh. ramble over lol

Top 10 2023 BL Kisses
If you've seen at least a couple BLs you know that some of these actors are either uncomfortable kissing another man or just didn't get enough practice kissing literally anyone. So when they get it right and genuinely seem to be enjoying themselves, it is worth noting. Soooo grab a pen and paper, and take some notes:
You Are Mine: This Taiwanese drama was problematique with the unbalanced workplace power dynamics, but this sweet upside down kiss was worth the wait.
Dangerous Romance: This may not have been their first kiss, but it felt like the most romantic. By this point, they'd shared many scenes filled with awkward sexual tension, but this one didn't have an ounce of humor, and Kanghan and Sailom just melted into each other's arms.
Kiseki: Dear to Me: The lighting for this kiss really emphasized their till-death-do-us-part themed dialogue where they vowed to die seconds apart.
Stay By My Side: Lackluster supernatural subplot aside, this Taiwanese drama delivered the most adorable kiss as the main lead was too nervous to give in to his desires without closing his eyes.
Be My Favorite: It took Kawi a frustratingly long time to pull his head out of his ass and realize he would be lucky to have Pisaeng even as a friend let alone a boyfriend. Thank goodness for Pisaeng's patience, cause ours was wearing thin.
Love Class 2: Very happy Ma Ru realized he had feelings for his bestie and wasted no time making that clear with an epic kiss that I have probably rewatched a dozen times.
Only Friends: Honestly, all of their kisses were incredible, because both of these actors went from supporting characters to lead roles, and did not skip a beat. There was no awkward beginner's kiss phase. Those intimacy workshops must've been lit.
Step by Step: Their kiss chemistry was on point, but the car scenes were the most memorable for how very possible they would've been caught in the act in the parking garage of their place of employment. Caution meet wind.
Wedding Plan: These two were about five seconds away from making a baby in that car, and if this were the omegaverse, they probably would've.
Hidden Agenda: There was hunger in that kiss on both sides, and it took every ounce of strength in Zo to shove Joke out the door once he made his intention clear.

I’d love to get your take on this post. I don’t agree with it. Supernatural was about Sam’s hero journey which the finale completes the arc established over the 15 seasons.
Why is it difficult for people to see the basic and timeless story construct?
Supernatural is Sam Winchester's Hero Journey, it's all here in the "Hero Journey" tag. Dean Winchester is a very popular character, the awesome sauce but not the main course, which I explained in the "Support Protagonist" tag.
Link. Here I had thought Will viewed the finale through Destiel-rose-colored glasses but it turned out he was interpreting it through BiBro-stanning-lens. And Will's proof that SPN is just as much as about Dean as it is about Sam is, wait for it, "Dean was given a myth arc"', as in singular.... out of 15 seasons. Did he mean season 10? Because according to Jensen, season 10 was a “rare Dean centric storyline” and how "Dean's rarely in this position of being the focal point of the general story's motivation," (X). Is Will disregarding Jensen's own words?
Will: "you can't remove one brother without the whole thing falling apart."
True you can't remove Sam, otherwise there is no story. Once Jared planned to leave SPN, WB canceled the series. Remove Dean and with some minor tweaking, SPN will mostly still be the same (X) but it probably wouldn't have lasted 15 seasons. It would be more like Buffy with 7 seasons. (X)
Will: Sam returned to the ordinary world and got a wife and child because it did it for Dean.
Actually Dean gave his blessing and permission for Sam to return to the ordinary life he always wanted for himself. It's why season 15 clumsily shoehorned "Drag Me Away" episode just a few weeks from the finale to remind the audience that Sam wanted out of the hunting life since he was a kid. Yes Sam went to hell for Dean but it was unquestionable that Sam also did it to save the world. It set Sam apart from Dean's motive for going to hell which was only to save Sam, he didn't care about the world.
Will: "everything Sam did was for Dean".
Yes, by giving up his own desire for an ordinary life so that Dean wouldn't be alone. Sam told Charlie back in season 9 that he only stayed in the hunting life because he loved Dean. But that's not enough for AA stans and even some Bibro stans because they may have realized that Dean and the hunting world is the "belly of the beast" that every protagonist enters as part of their hero journey arc, which goes against their personal biases or agendas.
Will's Anon was only talking up to Return of the Jedi in their Star Wars analogy and Sam never became a witch and he never "used his powers". Holy smoke that was the whole point of depowering Sam after season 5 so that he doesn't end up an ex dues machina! Or am I mis-reading Will's writing and he was actually talking about Sam's power in the first 5 seasons?? Regardless, Sam is NOT a witch, what the heck is Will smoking???
Will, listen to me carefully: Luke's hero journey goal was to become a Jedi. Sam's hero journey goal was to return to the ordinary world. It was never supposed to be a one-to-one comparison, Kripke never said that.
Now we come to Will's streaming value argument by using the 2023 chart to "prove" that the Carry On finale isn't driving equal watch time for each season. How is that supposed to even make sense? Will is ignoring the very basic human nature of simply tiring out from watching so many episodes. The rate of decreasing viewership from season to season is fairly consistent. Unlike hellers, the general viewers will start with the first season and gradually peter out.
A bad series finale will kill the popularity of the show and gets memory-holed. A disappointing series finale will put a big question mark in the rewatch value. "Carry On" finale did none of this because it made narrative sense, as Jensen said when he paraphrased what Kripke told him.
See my "Carry On finale is awesome and here's bunch of reasons why" tag.

Something non-Destiel related for a bit. But it is related to Supernatural.
I’ve mentioned a couple of times my dad died. It's only been 6 weeks and it doesn't feel any easier. I'm thinking about him a lot at the moment, and how engaged he was when I spoke of the show and my convention experiences.
I started watching Supernatural as soon as it aired in the UK. I’m a horror fan so it was right up my street. I normally watched it on my own late in the evening.
There was a day when my dad watched it with me. His first words were ‘oh that’s why you watch it.’ Literally as Jensen and Jared popped on the screen. Obviously, teenage me denied it profusely. I did genuinely watch for the story, but two cute leads also helped.
It was the only time we watched it together before I fell out of love with it in my 20s around S5.
I started watching again when I was in my 30s after Jensen was announced as being on The Boys (I love The Boys!). During the rewatch, I fell in love with Cas and started to understand Destiel.
I attended my first convention in 2023. I had missed out on Jensen being in my home town, so thought I'd take a holiday to Dusseldorf to attend Purcon 7.
I told my dad I was planning on attending this convention, and he remembered it was a show I enjoyed as a teenager. He seemed shocked it lasted so long, and that I was watching again. But happy that I was doing something I would enjoy.
I attended 4 conventions over the last year, and he’d always be the first to ask how they were. Wanting to know if I had a good time, what it was like. Whether the actors were nice. If they said anything about the pieces I got signed. Stuff like that.
The weekend before Purcon 8, I was with my parents. My dad was still in the recovery stage of his radiotherapy and was ill, but pretty bright otherwise. I remember telling him I'd visit again in a couple of weeks and tell him all about the holiday and convention. Hopefully give him something a bit more positive to think about for a little while.
I didn't know that it would be my last conversation with my dad.
He was put into an induced coma 12 hours before I was due to fly to Germany. That morning I had conversations with my mum, who told me to go. That we didn't know at the time what would happen and I would just be at home worrying about him. So I did.
It was on the morning of Purcon 8 that I found out he had brain damage caused by a mistake in A&E. That he wouldn't come back to us and it wasn't even because of the cancer. I was in pieces. I found a corner of the hotel and just sat there crying because I couldn't get the strength to do anything else. I somehow found it when I needed to get my auto with Misha and photos with Misha and Jensen though.
I managed to ask Jensen for a hug, because I needed one after that news. Not Misha though. I love the guy but he still intimidates the living shit out of me sometimes, and I'm convinced he may not like me.
When I did get home my dad was still in a coma and I did as promised. I told him all about my holiday. About the convention. How I summoned the courage to ask Jensen for a hug, and tell Misha about the promotion I got working on something really important politically.
Afterwards, I cried because I knew it would be the last time I would get to talk to him about one of my favourite shows, and my convention experiences. It broke my heart.
Anyway, I don't really know where my point was with all this. I just was reminiscing. If you have read, thank you for letting me get it all out, and here are some photos of my holiday I could never show my dad. (Which is even more gut wrenching, as we did share a love of photography).
If you've never visited Dusseldorf and the surrounding cities, I recommend it. It's so beautiful around there.

Question (because i'm curious and because i love enabling friends' hyperfixation): what is Tengu no Daidokoro? Why do you like it? What are you hoping for in a s2?
Also, should i watch it?
I adore Koisenu Futari and i have other similar queer-people-in-their-daily-life Japanese shows on my watch list (i loved my dining table and i have Kinou nani Tabeta and Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna waiting) that i just know i will love once i have the time to watch it!
Is Tengu no Daidokoro anything like it?
Thank you so much for this ask cause it gives me the opportunity to share my love for this show and also maybe make other people want to check it out.
Before anything else. This is not a queer show. All those shows you mentioned are some of my favourite shows, as you can see by my choice of pfp I adore Koisenu Futari as well. Kinou Nani Tabeta and Tsukutabe are magic and I really hope you get to them because they are so amazing. But Tengu is not that. It's an absolute gem and I adore it.
Now. Why do I love it? Why I am excited like it's christmas morning and I still believe in santa? So many reasons...
-IT'S GORGEOUS (if I hadn't binged this ,I would've giffed every frame)
I mean the greens are just incredible. All the colours in these show are actually. The change in the colours is amazing as well. My delusional brain will believe that this second season was made specifically so that me and @colourme-feral could once again lose our minds over THE GREENS.
-It's about two brothers. (I love stories around family)
Motoi (older brother played by Komagine Kiita) and On. A city 14 year old who comes to stay at his older brother's house in a rural area. They are estranged and have little in common. On is the perfect representation of 'kids these days...' (I know I'm getting old when this is what comes to mind), completely hates the idea of being away from the city and technology and internet (I related). Motoi is at home here, he's very quiet and calm. I love them. I love this relationship. I love how it grows and I can't wait to see where they go next.
-The food. (I love food)
Motoi has his own vegetable garden and he makes everything from there or other local sources. Just like the shows you mentioned in your ask, the food is a major ingredient to this story. It's the thing that brings these brothers together as well. the scene in the above gif is one of my favourites because of that. Not gonna give you spoilers.
-The dog. but also...
this is where the show takes a different turn than you'd expect. although not really because it's in the synopses, but if you only knew this show from gifs and this post you would not see this one coming. There's a supernatural element to this show. For starters that cute dog you see there, he talks. He's a talking dog!!! And he is delightful. but also this
(Can we just stop for a second and appreciate how beautiful Kiita is? I barely recognized him in 25 ji.) So yeah it's in the show's name, Tengu's Kitchen. Tengu's are a legendary creature from japanese folklore and the brothers are descendants of them. (more info here about that if you're curious).
-The three of them.
I adore them. I don't want to say more so you'll just have to watch it.
-the setting (did I mention it's gorgeous?)
I know I've mentioned the visuals but it's not just that. it's the scenery and the rhythm and the music (I love the ost of this show) and the everything. Look I watch shows for a bunch of different reasons. This one, I watch it, or rewatch it as the case may be, for my soul. It's beautiful, it's soothing, it's touching, and I feel better after watching it. I really can't explain it any other way.
There are more things I could say honestly but this is already so much longer than I intended. But it's 10 episodes of 30 minutes and as with a lot of jdramas, an incredible human @aoinousagi has fansubbed it for our viewing plesure. here is the link to their post.
These are just some of the reasons I love it and can't wait to watch more. I never expected it but this day is better because of that announcement alone. I'm so happy. I will do rewatch soon, and probaly gif more of it so maybe more people will want to check it out.
@yannig thank you so much for this question. Sorry if it's a bit of a incoherent mess but I'm really excited and having trouble putting it into words. And I know there are a lot of shows to watch and not enough time to watch them all, so of course no pressure, but if you're ever in the mood for something that is wholesome and beautiful I do recommend it highly.

paint the town red - h.m.
a/n: this was a request and i had so much fun writing it!! i also got to write some supernatural elements which is the best lmao. writing these hope fics makes me want to rewatch legacies so bad 😭 but anyway i hope you guys like this
warnings: smut (18+), vampire biting, mention of blood, semi-public sex
hope wakes up in the middle of the night absolutely ravenous.
beside her, her girlfriend breathes lightly in her sleep. hope smiles to herself before gently getting up, determined not to disturb her.
making her way to the kitchen, she grabs a blood bag from the fridge. she knows it's nowhere near as good as the real thing, but she settles nonetheless.
her eyes glow bright green when she punctures the bag with her teeth, finding immediate relief in her midnight snack.
"hope?"
y/n had woken up shortly after hope had gotten out of bed, feeling the emptiness beside her. she didn't have to look for long before finding her exactly where she thought she'd be.
"what are you doing up?" hope questions, still in the middle of her bag.
y/n approaches hope from behind, wrapping her arms around her waist and pulling her into a hug.
"i felt you leave. missed you," she says sleepily, resting her head on hope's shoulder.
hope embraces the contact, leaning gently into y/n.
"didn't want to wake you," hope responds, kissing y/n's forehead.
in the midst of their conversation, y/n notices that hope's eyes are still aglow, and that the points of her teeth are still visible just beyond her lips.
y/n's attraction to her girlfriend is apparent based on the way her cheeks become as red as hope's blood bag.
she's sure hope doesn't notice, despite their close proximity.
"can we go back to bed now?" y/n asks, her exhaustion catching up to her.
"c'mere," hope coos, picking y/n up bridal style to bring her back to bed.
ever since hope turned into a fully activated tribrid, these "midnight snack" excursions had become a common thing for her. sometimes she just couldn't go back to sleep until she fed, and she had to give into her compulsions.
y/n didn't always wake up with her, but hope had caught her watching from the doorway on more than one occasion.
at first, hope thought that y/n was just interested in her tribrid status, but it slowly became clear that it was much more than that.
even though she's sure she has it figured out, hope doesn't want to assume anything. she knows she has to figure out a plan to confirm her suspicions.
it doesn't take hope long to figure out what she wants to do.
during one of hope and y/n's weekly movie nights, hope decides to put her plan into action.
"y/n, i'm hungry," hope playfully whines, immediately getting her girlfriend's attention.
"wanna order something? or we could go cook together," y/n offers a solution, still halfway paying attention to the television.
"i have a better idea," hope whispers, leaning in closer to y/n.
"what's that?" y/n acts clueless, even though she knows where this is headed, and she couldn't be more thrilled about it.
hope gently picks up y/n's wrist, lightly kissing it before looking up at her.
"may i?"
y/n swears she's dreaming. she's had many dreams like this, usually ending in hope pushing her down on the kitchen counter.
"please," y/n finally responds, giving hope her most intense heart eyes.
grabbing hold of y/n's other hand, hope exposes her fangs and gives y/n the most gentle bite she possibly can.
y/n gasps at the initial sting, but before she knows it she's letting out soft moans. hope is absolutely dizzying, and it's not from the loss of blood.
when hope pulls away, y/n's heart is pounding in her ears.
"it seems like you enjoyed that just as much as i did, hm?" hope teases, healing the small wound that developed on y/n's wrist.
y/n feels frozen in time, and hope is the only thing she can think about. as hope tries to keep watching the movie the two had started, y/n is entirely distracted.
long after the pair had fallen asleep, hope wakes up again, the same urge to feed pushing her up and to the kitchen.
she walks delicately out of the room to avoid waking y/n, even though she knows it's no use. y/n always knows when she leaves, and hope finds it adorable.
and like clockwork, she appears in the doorway, sleepiness apparent in her eyes. hope's eyes glow brighter at the sight of her girlfriend.
hope stops mid-bloodbag to greet her. "hi beautiful," she beams, her teeth still excessively sharp.
"hi," y/n replies, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.
"someone's sleepy, huh?"
"come back to bed."
"i'm hungry."
memories of hours ago come back to y/n, and she feels a knot forming in her stomach.
"what, i didn't hold you over?" she teases, hoping to get a reaction out of hope.
something in hope snaps at that, and she picks y/n up, sitting her down on the counter.
"hope, what are you d-"
before y/n can finish, hope's lips are on hers and they're making out in the kitchen of the salvatore school.
"hope, jesus, someone could see us."
"don't care. wanna taste you. not talking about your wrist this time," hope replies between kisses.
"but the bed is so much more comfortable for you to-"
"need you right now," hope slurs, and that's enough for y/n to oblige.
within seconds, hope has y/n naked from the waist down, legs spread on the kitchen counter.
"i can't believe you," y/n giggles, honestly quite nervous about their current position.
"the quieter you are, the less likely we are to get caught," hope replies, her voice sultry as she kisses y/n's inner thighs.
the second hope's mouth makes contact with y/n, it's game over.
the noises she can't help but make are obscene. hope is incredible at going down on y/n, and she's reminded of that tenfold every time.
hope briefly pulls away. "you're so gorgeous. what did i say about being quiet, though?"
y/n mumbles an apology but whines in protest. "please just keep going."
hope doesn't oppose, but she moves her tongue agonizingly slowly.
"hope... more, please," y/n pleads, not caring about keeping her composure any longer.
"i like when you beg," hope mutters against her, finally picking up the pace once again.
y/n is painfully close, and she knows it. she desperately tries to keep her orgasm at bay, wanting to prolong this moment as much as possible.
"god, hope, so good," she encourages, her hand resting in hope's hair.
it's at that moment that hope looks directly up at y/n, her glowing tribrid eyes piercing into hers.
the look hope gives her sends her over the edge, biting her lip to withhold as much noise as possible.
as y/n's breathing slows and her heart rate returns to normal, hope stands up, helping her get down and back onto her feet.
hope gently puts y/n's pajamas back on for her, and pushes her hair behind her ear.
"you okay?" she asks, resting her hand on y/n's cheek.
"much better than okay. but sleepy. can we go back to bed now?"
"anything for you. did such a great job for me."
hope takes y/n's hand as they head back upstairs, settling back into bed.
"oh, and hope?"
"yeah?"
"are you still hungry?"
a/n: its the middle of the night and i'm awake for some reason and was DETERMINED to finish this

When people say that there isn't going to be enough time for Byler to happen in season 5, I think they are forgetting that Stranger Things is character driven as much as it is plot driven. The characters arcs are part of what drives the plot forward (for example Steve's character arc in season 1 driving him to help kill the demogorgon. Without his help, Jonathan or Nancy may have died). The Duffers (Matt) have talked about Will's arc in season 5, and it sounds like they are prioritizing it. Part of his misbelief about the world is that he is a mistake. Mike makes Will feel like he's not a mistake and that he's better for being different (and that gives him the courage to fight on). Will and Mike's relationship could easily tie back to the supernatural plot. With Mike's help, Will feels stronger. When Will and Mike get together, it Will help Will's character growth so much, and Mike's too. They will feel understood, wanted, needed. Mental strength and wellness helps promote physical strength and wellness. The Duffers have stated that they hope Will's character arc is what is going to tie the whole show together. The Duffers have also spoken about planning to wrap up Nancy, Steve, and Jonathan's love triangle. They mention this directly in relation to talking about wrapping up their character arcs because relationships can be part of character arcs. If they are confirmed to be addressing this drawn out love triangle, they will almost definitely address Will and Mike's relationship (it wouldn't make sense not to).
In conclusion, the character arcs are just as important as the supernatural plot, and in fact directly tie into it. You can't have a well-rounded story without balancing plot with characters. The Duffers have all but confirmed that Will and Mikes relationship will be addressed, and it wouldn't make sense if it wasn't. If they are going to, and have time to, resolve one love triangle, they have to resolve another (Will, Mike, and El). If you say there won't be time, you probably aren't looking at the bigger picture. Media that is completely plot driven is bland and boring, and if you think Stranger Things prioritizes plot, I would recommend rewatching the show. Honestly, people who say these things are just finding the easiest excuse that Byler won't happen because they know if they try to find a solid, well-thought-out reason, they'll have to admit there aren't any. They'll have to admit Byler shippers are right, and not delusional.
Also, Stranger Things is going to be the length of 8 movies. Romance movies use the length of one movie to build a relationship, so there is definitely time.

Shouldn't Freya and Hope be called Hagen witches?
I know Dahlia's last name wasn't officially confirmed to be Hagen (at least, I don't think. Correct me if I'm wrong) and it was a last name created by fans, but in so many TO edits, Dahlia is almost always referred to as 'Dahlia Mikaelson' and Freya and Hope as 'Mikaelson witches.'
The witch gene came from Esther's side of the family, not Mikael's. He was a regular human and did not have any ties to the supernatural prior to becoming an original vampire.
I think the TO writers were extremely lazy and careless with not giving Dahlia an actual last name.
Freya and Hope are technically not Mikaelson witches. They are Hagen witches. I know this may seem unimportant to most of you, but it bothered me so much while rewatching TO, so I had to make a post about it.

TEEN WOLF BRAINROT
so, i've been rewatching teen wolf bc apparently netflix hates us europeans and it will be removed on may 31st and here are a few of my opinions TM
scott is actually a very good main character. listen, i got into this fandom when i was older, so i probably don't understand why there is this trend of hating scott, but he's a valid MC! he shows an example of positive masculinity that is honestly so refreshing to see in modern media: he's kind, compassionate, always optimistic but not stupidly so, has an amazing relationship with his mum AND his friends, he's not afraid to show emotions and cry. honestly a very healthy, albeit traumatised, young man. yes, he did stupid stuff for the girl he liked, and yes he misjudged a few situations, but please, remind me, how old is he supposed to be? 16? 17? 18? yeah. i did worse things at his age.
scott and stiles come from working class families!!! they have money problems!! it's honestly so refreshing to see teenagers discuss money in a supernatural/fantasy tv show. it doesn't usually happens and I've found it refreshing because it's something that usually happen between irl teenagers.
i don't get sterek. really, really don't. maybe it's bc i've watched the show through a gen z lens (meaning the media and the culture (read: THE INTERNET) when i watched the show were influenced more by gen z than millennials' values) but i really don't get it. and the age difference makes me uncomfortable. (same thing with parrish and lydia, SHE'S A MINOR DUDE, there's a reason people don't like cops istg) SOMEONE EXPLAIN STEREK TO ME PLEASE
in fics stiles and scott's personalities are often swapped: stiles is the caring one, the pack mum, scott is the one with homicidal tendencies. like, my dudes, the fact that scott is a GOOD person through and through is the reason he's a true alpha. also the reason we, as viewers, like stiles is bc he's sarcastic and more morally ambiguous than scott (not really, but you get it, he cares more about himself and his immediate friends, the others can die, scott instead want to save everyone period), it's like taking away the thing that makes stiles stiles
malia and stiles were SO cute, i didn't expect to like them so much, but when they broke up my heart shattered
stydia is everything i want in a ship and i will not accept any criticism on it, it's literally one of the only straight ships i like. you have the slowburn, the malewife x girlboss trope, the he fell first but she fell harder, the mutual pining. it literally checks all of my boxes
isaac was such a cool character and he and scott had an amazing dynamic, like come on, they had something going on between them
kira is a badass. that's it, that's the comment. i like her so much
derek's development is one of the best. i couldn't stand him in season 1, but in s4 he became one of my favourite characters. but i think this has more to do with the fact that they aged him up? he was supposed to be in his early 20s in s1, but then they aged him up in s3? well, anyway, i liked how he literally wised up, stepping into the role of a teacher and guide instead of a leader, it suits him so much better (and i'm sure it's less stressful)
peter is such a charmingly evil bastard. i hate him, but i love him at the same time.
thiam is the best ship in the show, i don't care if it's canon or not. i've read airplanes, it's canon to me
we would've liked (simped for) s5 theo more if he had the same haircut he had in 6b. he was just stupidly hot.
allison and lydia should've kissed and so malia and kira. give me my wlw couples.
#teen wolf#scott mcall#stiles stilinski#lydia martin#stydia#sterek#thiam#these are just my opinions lads#i don't care if you don't agree with me because these aren't facts#these are opinions#but if you were to respect my opinions that would be greatly appreciated#thanks

Randomly rewatching ‘Cinderbrush’ and remembering that time that Critical Role managed to make the most CW show to ever be a CW show:
Teen angst as played by 30-40-year-olds, giving the whole thing a weird nostalgic flavor
Witty one-liners that teens only wish that they could come up with on their own
The most shocking amount of gender one can pack onto a screen (that may be less of a CW thing, and more of what everyone wanted from the CW but never got, because the CW only ever wanted to appeal to The Youths in the most safe and boardroom-approved way possible).
Anyway, all this is to say: man I adore this one-shot way more than I expected to, and I still wish it would get a follow-up at some point. The cast was great, the setup was fantastic, and Critical Role doing a supernatural teen drama complete with raves, murder investigations, and every iteration of hookup possible was such a fun departure from their usual games. If you haven’t seen it and it sounds like something you’d dig, do yourself a favor and check it out.
#Critical Role#Cinderbrush#it's part Buffy and part every CW show that Buffy spawned#and it works weirdly well#come for the teen drama#stay for the nonbinary fun#and Taliesin Jaffe's extensive knowledge of party drugs#and Ashley Johnson's impressive portrayal of a teenage boy#it's got everything#Ashley Johnson#Erika Ishii#Matt Mercer#Ally Beardsley#Taliesin Jaffe

i'd love to talk about the themes of fate vs family in cw's supernatural with you :')
YOU'RE SO AMAZING THANK YOU
it's just. THE THEMES. like okay when i started rewatching supernatural i was just kind of vibing. my original goal was to see if i could uncover all of the godawful incest subtext in the show of which there is an abundance. but once i reached scarecrow my eyes were OPENED. it's all an allegory. there are only two choices in their lives and they are to follow their destinies or to to become toxic enmeshed brothers who will incite ruin upon the world.
because like the thesis of SCARECROW is the collective vs the individual. burkittsville is a community which cares for itself by sacrificing outsiders. emily is ultimately deemed an outsider and is therefore available to become the sacrifice, and when she protests she's considered selfish for wanting to save her own life. and the message scarecrow posits is that the collective is a dangerous thing; ergo, if sam and dean go down the path of the collective, if they choose each other, then they will create something destructive.
you see this theme, that community and collective is dangerous and destructive, in a couple other episodes too: the benders and croatoan (kind of, not entirely the point but it still exists), and maybe another but i'm just glancing over my notes atm. at the same time, there are episodes companion to these that propose that the individual route is the correct path (heart, asylum) and episodes that show the consequences of choosing the collective (faith, shadow).
and AT THE SAME TIME, many episodes give us the exact opposite conclusion: bugs, nightmare, playthings, born under a bad sign—all of these episodes suggest that the collective is the correct path instead, that turning to each other is what will ultimately create the best outcome.
most of the episodes, especially in the first two seasons, are primarily concerned with pitting the pursuit of destiny against the pursuit of brotherhood—aka, fate vs family. the show makes it clear that sam and dean can't have both. dean, from the start, is unsure at best about pursuing john's (and later sam's) revenge quest to find and kill azazel; therefore, when sam is hellbent on hunting down yellow-eyes (synonymous with his destiny), he's shutting dean out of his life and focusing only on his own goals. john outright gives dean his quest in 2x01 by warning that he may have to kill sam; therefore, sam is the object of dean's fate, and killing him is the direct realization of that destiny. they're cosmically destined to kill each other—it's a cain and abel story, but there's a twist.
which is, of course, that they have another alternative: they can abandon their fates and choose each other, relentlessly and obsessively. every decision they make that pulls them apart brings them closer to fate, and every decision they make that brings them together pulls them farther from destiny. it makes complete sense, then, that sam and dean are soulmates: because of that, they are instead given two destinies, which makes it possible for them to defy the angels and demons that created them to be enemies.
BUT THE THING IS!!!!!!!! the thing is that neither of these destinies are good. it's impossible to strike a balance between these fates because the stakes are astronomical. they either must give in completely to their destinies as michael and lucifer's vessels, or they must give in completely to each other, eliminating their individuality and becoming a cohesive unit. the show is a constant push and pull between these two outcomes, and the show elaborates extensively on why neither of these options are good. the collective brings ruin; the individual brings the apocalypse. they can escape one destruction of the self but not the other.
and then if you pull back and look at kripke era as a whole, you see some trends that support this, too: seasons 1 and 2 are largely about sam and dean choosing each other, walking away from fate and toward family (see: devil's trap, where sam literally abandons his revenge quest, synonymous with his destiny, to save john and appease dean; see: croatoan, where dean finally decides to abandon the quest john gave him and to "save" sam at whatever cost, which leads him to his questionable and unwavering faith in sam for the rest of the season). season 1 is about sam abandoning fate and choosing dean; season 2 is about dean abandoning fate and choosing sam.
then, seasons 3 and 4 are largely about the exact opposite. with all hell breaks loose, dean (at azazel's meddling) has restarted his fateful quest by making the selfish (the individual!) choice to become the righteous man and sacrifice himself for sam's life. thus until lucifer rising, the show is a downward spiral of sam and dean's relationship unraveling at the seams. they pursue their destinies alone and at the expense of each other. sam confides in ruby despite dean's reserves (aka, he lets someone else be more important than dean; he chooses himself over his brother). dean reacts more and more violently. where their relationship had progressed in season 2 such that they were no longer keeping secrets from each other, now seasons 3 and 4 are rife with them, both of them having concerns and fears about each other that they're reluctant to open up about. they objectify each other and ignore each other as people because they are too consumed with their own paths. and it culminates in the start of the apocalypse, the very fate they wanted so badly to avoid!
therefore season 5 is the resolution of these conflicts. it's the ultimate decision between fate and family, where they confront their broken relationship and seek to make repairs of any kind that will fix the mess. because their only options are The Apocalypse or a toxic, codependent relationship with their brother, it is only through the ultimate decision to value Brother over everything else that allows them to stop the apocalypse. sam is able to regain control because of his connection to the impala, his home (see: the pilot, where sam's quest is to return home), which is synonymous with dean as of season 2. dean stays there and lets lucifer beat the shit out of him because he chooses sam above himself, and if sam is gone then so is he. and in the end dean returns to lisa because sam told him to; he lives for sam, on behalf of sam, because he is just half of a whole.
god there's lots of other things i can say about this (apparently i have 65,000 words of notes on just 2.5 seasons of this show). almost every single episode is ultimately about this conflict, so there's a lot to elaborate on. but this is the gist of it... the overview of my notes. the thesis statement, if you will.
#supernatural#ask#i'm normal i'm normal i'm normal i'm normal i'm normal#thank you. thank you so much i'm feeling soooooooo normal right now#i feel like i didn't write enough and yet.#spn posting

So I just finished Good Omens recently and I have a couple things to say and my family and friends are so done with my rants about different movies and TV shows.
1: Holy shit that was a good show! I honestly didn't expect much from the show but holy shit it blew me away with how good it was. It was comedic and I found myself laughing so much and it was so beautifully written the characters are just top tier amazing and wow what I'd give to just continuously rewatch it as if it's my first time watching it.
2: I watched supernatural and I thought wow never gonna find another show like this. One that brings me joy and sadness then I found this fucking wonderful amazing show! AND it made me even more sad like what the fuck how do I keep coming across shows that cause me so much fucking pain. Also can we talk about the parallels between the two shows. Oh look two characters working together to stop the end of the world one a demon and one's an angel, counting Dean a demon solely for this post plus demon Dean did exist, both are oh so obviously in love with each other but neither will admit it, most of the angels are dicks and we all hate metatron, there's a demon named Crowley and many more. I mean look at the similarities between Dean and Crowley. Both are in love with their angel best friend, both are absolutely in love with their car, love classic rock, both are some sassy bitches, both don't want to show their emotions but are big softies, and are both the better looking person in the couple (in my opinion). Then look at the similarities between Aziraphale and Crowley. Both are angels in trench coats who are in love with their best friend, they are manipulated, complicated, traumatized, beautiful angels, both have trouble understanding (some) human expressions, and both struggle with their loyalty to heaven. Also, is it just me or does the first like 10 seconds of End Titles- the one that got left in the car from Good Omens kinda sound like it could be a beginning to a Supernatural opening credits or is it just me?
3: My God David Tennant is FINE like I've seen his face sometimes haven't really seen him in much and was like ok yeah he's attractive and moved on. But then I saw him in this and I'm like wow now I get what everyone's talking about. Like just ahhh this man is fucking attractive! I'm honestly ashamed of myself for taking so long to realize.
4: So TikTok in all its wonderfulness blessed/cursed me with a bunch of Good Omens content the day after I finished watching good Omens. Including a looooooooot of people cosplaying as Crowley. And may I just say the people who cosplay him are fine as fuck! I mean it's really hard to dress up as Crowley and not look attractive I mean Crowley is a style icon. But holy shit the people are so fucking good looking like I just can't. My sexuality does a nose dive off the empire state building when looking at them. I was talking to a friend about it and she said it's a case of wanting to be with them or be them and I disagree. I want to be with them all. Just holy shit you want to look good dress like Crowley you'll look fantastic.
5: The effect this show has had on my life is insane. I have been obsessed with listening to Queen since I finished the show. Which I'm not complaining about at all they were my favorite and still are my favorite band before I even watched the show. I have barely listened to something that wasn't Queen or songs from the show since I binge watched the show. I'm listening to another one bites the dust while typing this. Once again not complaining. Also, did anyone else want to dye their hair like Crowley's when they finished the show? Cause I do. I have been blonde my whole life and never wanted to change it and now I want it red. And I need to know if I'm alone in this or not to determine how alarmed I should be.
6: They had no right making the relationship of Crowley and Aziraphale they way they did. First they made them friends who obviously were in love with each other but hid it then they give us them acting basically as a married couple being so fucking adorable and me just wanting the type of love they have for them to give us that ending of season two! I'm not gonna lie if my dad wasn't up and calmed me down I either would've spontaneously combusted from my literally shaking anger or went on a spree. Not sure what type of spree but a spree of some kind.
7: How all of you wonderful people didn't riot or harm Neil Gaiman is beyond me. First when season 1 ended y'all had to wait 2 years to even get a green light that there was gonna be a season 2 and then another 2 for it to finally come out. And then for the season final of season 2 to happen where then you had to wait even longer for season 3 to be greenlight is just you all have a greater will power than me. I'm coming into this with two seasons and a third confirmed so a round of applause to y'all. And now I completely understand why I kept hearing people say they hated Neil Gaiman and stuff like that.
And finally on a somewhat unrelated note I'm planning to watch Doctor who since I'm about to finish another show where can I find it and what order do I watch it in? I've heard many different answers on the order.
Thanks everyone for coming to my rant y'all are wonderful and everyone have a wonderful day!<3

In reference to my previous post where I mentioned rewatching midnight mass, I feel insane about it again so I need to rant. And spoilers ahead obvs, with discussions about death and religion.
Ok so...the whole series is about redemption, renewal, and tragedy. The thing is, especially discussing Father Paul, he thinks the island's redemption and renewal will come from this supernatural, religious, Catholic revival that he is leading. The angel blood, the people healing and becoming young again, etc.
But those are presented as horrors, almost. Instead of supernatural they are just unnatural. Mildred at the end even says "It's supposed to be over. We made our choices." Humans age, and we die, and that IS part of nature and arguably, if you are Christian, God's plan. How are you supposed to get to heaven if you don't die?
Meanwhile, the acts that are leading to actual good on the island are smaller, and happen every day in all sorts of places around the world. Joe Collie's redemption, I would argue, actually starts with Sheriff Hassan and Bowl treating him like a human being. An outsider listening to him about Bev Keene and the rot of the island, telling him he isn't wrong.
Leeza then forgives him (arguably caused by Father Paul, but I honestly believe Leeza may have done this without being healed eventually. Or maybe not, it's not my place to say whether someone affected by a horrific act should forgive) and this is what caused him to go to AA. And Riley himself being there, being able to relate to him...it helps Joe even more. These are all normal acts that humans do every day.
Joe Collie wasn't trying to quit drinking due to some angel blood affecting him, Joe Collie was making those choices based on help and understanding from other humans. And it extends to Riley as well. The AA meetings may have been helping, but Erin Greene listening to him and giving him a safe place to just exist away from his home was even more important.
And that's where the tragedy comes in. Father Paul attributes all of this good on the island to his own actions, instead of seeing how others have also led to revival outside of religion. He is so blinded by what he thinks is the only way to help the island that he directly leads to it's downfall.
His reliance on the substance that he thinks will revive the island leads him to kill Joe. He ends his shot at renewal. And it leads to the death of Riley as well. And the death of everyone on the island.
I know this isn't particularly like new or a revelation, I just needed to write down my thoughts. 😭

Rewatching Abandon All Hope
Welcome to “If the Female Character Has Agency In Her Own Death, Does It Still Count as Fridging?: A Supernatural Rewatch Blog” with Lor and Mace!
Up today, s5e10: Abandon All Hope.
Cas tracks down Crowley, and Sam and Dean then go to confront him, hoping to retrieve the Colt. Crowley hands over the Colt on his own, telling the boys he wants Luci dead because he suspects that Luci will kill all the demons. He tells them where to find Luci, and after an evening at Bobby’s, Sam, Dean, Cas, Jo, and Ellen head to Carthage, Missouri, to go devil hunting. Things go awry immediately—the town is deserted, except for dozens of Reapers, who Cas claims only gather in such numbers when a mass death is in the offing. Meg arrives, taunts her some Winchesters, summons some hell hounds, and sends the boys and co. running. Jo gets big maimed, and with Dean consulting with Bobby over a short-wave radio and barely keeping it together, Jo convinces everyone that they need to build a bomb in the hardware store they’re sheltering in and let her stay to blow it up so the others can escape the hell hounds and continue looking for Luci. We get kind of a great and painful death scene for Jo and Ellen, who can’t stand to leave Jo to die on her own, and Sam and Dean take off to find Luci. And find him, they do, and Sam shoots him. The end. Ha! YOU THOUGHT. The Colt can’t kill the devil, silly. Oops. Cas swoops the boys back to Bobby’s, and they all have A Moment over Jo and Ellen.
Below is a log of our real-time reactions as we watched. Remember that there may be spoilers for any part of SPN’s 15-season run here. Note also that the nature of our conversation is adult and thus it may contain adult language and themes.

YAAAAAAS
Mace:
“HOW ABOUT YOU DONT MISS OKAY?! MORONS!"
Mace:
I. LOVE. HIM.
Lor:
I love when he gets all angry
Mace:
YES
Lor:
omg Cas
Lor:
he's adorable
Mace:
YES
Mace:
and Ellen is an idiot for thinking she could drink him under the table
Lor:
"thank you again for your continued support"
Lor:
RIGHT?
Mace:
“since when have we ever done anything smart"
Lor:
"since when have we ever done anything smart"
Lor:
YES
Dean. No.
Lor:
right?
Lor:
I mean, among other things, Cas is RIGHT THERE
Mace:
There’s a perfectly good angel just over there, idiot
Mace:
HAHAHAHA OMG
Lor:
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

Lor:
"I'm told you came here in an automobile"
Lor:
"slow. confining" hAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA

Lor:
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YES
Mace:
Oh sweet Dean. That scared face
Lor:
ooooof Dean's face when he realizes it's hellhounds

Lor:
hellhounds on your trail, boy
Mace:
oh. look out, jo.
Lor:
oh. no. jo. do not get ripped to shreds. oh no
Mace:
should have slept with the hottie hunter when you had the chance, girl.
Lor:
LOL
the best part of this is how it affects Dean and as much I don't care about Jo I HATE that they killed off a female character for the effect it would have on one of the heroes and IT WORKS
Mace:
yeah
Lor:
god this scene bt Bobby and Dean
Mace:
YES
Mace:
“the devil’s in the details, Dean"
Lor:
YES
Lor:
"I've died several times myself"
Mace:
HA
Mace:
poor Dean. he is FRAYED

Lor:
that's me. always ready to take one for the team
Mace:
indeed
Lor:
god his FACE
Mace:
YES
Lor:
when he gets out of this situation, I will be speaking to him about leaving the “rather” out of the phrase "sooner rather than later"
Mace:
HA
Mace:
DEAN. Her innards are outards. She doesn’t feel like macking right now.
Lor:
RIGHT?
I wish they had left it at the forehead kiss
Mace:
right?!
Mace:
I’m not an Ellen fan either, but I do like the dynamic here of not leaving her daughter but choosing to die with her
Lor:
also that he hadn't tried to sleep with her earlier. it feels out of character (unless he was just looking for comfort and that's the only way he knows how to try to find any. but still. it's Jo. he's not into her)
Lor:
YES
Mace:
(yep)
Mace:
(I’m convinced that these occasional eps in which Dean acts un-Dean-like are all written by the same person)
Lor:
(yeah I wouldn't be surprised)
Mace:
UGH. the fact that Ellen has to experience Jo dying first. GAH
Lor:
RIGHT?
and that it was her refusal to leave her that made this work. bc Jo died before she could have set the bomb off
Mace:
YES
Mace:
they both can’t really believe it would be that easy and you can see it in their faces
Lor:
I love the faces like even they don't believe at first that it was that easy
Lor:
LOLOLOLOL
Mace:
YES
Lor:
ooof Sammy
Mace:
yeah
Mace:
huh. a little Dark Side dialogue there, guys
Lor:
ha!
Mace:
cloud-hopping pansies is such a good insult
Lor:
YES
he just stone-cold throws her over the holy fire and uses her as a bridge daaaaang
Mace:
he can be such a badass when he needs
Lor:
YAAAAAAS
Mace:
why take the commemorative photo if you’re just gonna burn it?
Lor:
i was JUST thinking that!
Mace:
such drama queens
Lor:
...maybe he's afraid their spriits could latch onto it and not move on?
Mace:
huh
Mace:
I’m sticking with drama queens as the reason
Lor:
or maybe someone just thought it was be a cool shot and they needed a bit of business bc otherwise SDandB and just standing there like dopes
Lor:
YES
Mace:
snork
[after the episode ended:]
Lor:
so I was just grabbing this convo to dump in a word doc for the post and I was looking at some of our reactions to Cas and Luci talking to each other and I had a thought (I feel like this ought to be obvious but). The behaviours in Cas that read like autism are CAS behaviours, not angel behaviours. none of the other angels are like him. he's the only socially awkward bean who doesn't get sarcasm and takes things literally. that's HIM
Mace:
Oooh, yep, that’s right
