I know it's more of a side project but I really love the up! AU.

I honestly can already see it. Maybe it's something like frontiers where everyone left to do their own thing or other things happened. Sonic might initially not notice his declining mental health and only notices the physical symptoms (it would be interesting if he never truly does realize his slowly spiraling mindsets and only Shadow notices but of course doesn't say anything). A part of him might want to get better and be who he was again, but part of him he might not even acknowledge himself wants to get worse, it has found comfort in this new darkness. It's a dangerous mindset to have. He holds on to anything that gives him some sort of comfort and, well, right now that's Shadow.

Shadow on the other hand had never had someone like Maria. His first person that at least tried with him was Sonic, but it was pretty much already too late, he has already had too many experiences with the scientist. He learns for his job to at least appear normal, but it's not true. There might be small fleeting moments when he sees some people where he wonders what's wrong with him and he might be fully aware of it or pushes it away. He can't really understand how others feel, but when he sees Sonic again he can understand him because he is becoming more similar to him and that's an exciting feeling. The hedgehog who had tried so hard to help him was now like him. And he knows how to make him believe that he's changed. He'll help Sonic but always in a way that leaves some seeds that make his mental health worse again, it might be like a game for him. Wanting to slowly see the blue hedgehog spiral and become more like him.

Sorry for yapping and assuming about your AU. I didn't mean to sound like I was telling you what to do. Those are just my current thoughts. I really love your art. Take care of yourself<3

I don't want people to assume Shadow is a complete husk unable to feel anything. He can, and to an extent, he can grasp on a technical level what he's supposed to feel in specific circumstances. He's just not used to feeling it due to his sterile upbringing. I originally planned a couple of different endings this AU could have. One of them includes Shadow actually making a genuine effort to be better. But like...that's a basic and easy thing to write. I'm trynna make him worse here. So, he's most likely gonna double down on his negative behavioral traits and indulge Sonic's poor choices too. He's bound to enable some more unconventional "cures" for his favorite patient! As for Sonic, I'm glad you picked up on the small Frontiers reference. I just wanted to give it a less positive perspective. Sonic would for sure not notice his declining mental health for a long time, even after he starts visiting Shads. He really only went to the doctor for his physical body suffering repercussions from his sleepless nights. I love the idea of Shadow already being aware of what's really wrong but withholding that information to keep himself in control.

Shadow likes having a plan, and he has plans to either keep Sonic where he is, or just tear him down entirely, depending on which conclusion I end up going with 😈

When he met you, you two immideatly hit it off due to your extremely similar personalities. On the surface, at least. You were both very focused and work driven, as you rarely allow yourself to be distracted from anything. Your equal disinterest in socializing of any kind made you bond as well, as you simply avoided large gatherings or get togethers to spend time with eachother instead. A change that came as a surprise to the both of you.

You enjoy spending your free time simply reading or going over work notes in the others' presence, preferably in silence. Oftentimes, you can also lose yourselves in deep and profound conversations about life and philosophy. He loves how intelligent you are, as it pairs well with his own well-read mind too.

With that said, your main difference definitely lies in your moral ethics regarding projects and your experiments in general. Even if he may be quite emotionless visibly, Alhaitham still believes that your creations deserve proper care and therefore forces you to contemplate your own actions in many self-reflections. Not that you mind. If anything, you found this to be even more helpful to your research.

You two definitely match eachother well and make up for the other persons faults, which always works out perfectly in the end.

You are emotionless naturally and have always felt a certain discomfort at the lack of care for anything or anyone at that in your life. And yet, he finds absolute enjoyment in it. In fact, he enables you to do better, to work harder, to create and research more. He wants you to become the best version of yourself, or whatever he thinks that version may be.

He'll help fund any research or experiment you want to conduct in any form possible. Whether through money or unwilling subjects, as long as you give him front row seats to you working away, he'll be there for it all. His clones are also always at your disposal if you need them. He'll also understand your disinterest for your creations, seeing them as useless himself if they don't serve the purpose you created them for.

You two, however, also have much more calmer and normal moments with eachother, something you actually taught him. You'll drink tea or listen to calming music whilst discussing your latest research with one another rather often. It gives you both the downtime needed to refocus on work later once it's time to get back to the labs.

Your relationship may be unhinged to most, but that doesn't matter to the both of you in the slightest, as long as you're together.

Why did Syd call herself an accomplice in 3x05 Children?

I was re-reading @yannaryartside's fantastic meta about this (and you should too) and it got me thinking. In their meta, OP asks:

Is Syd (or her leaving) supposed to be a wake-up call to Carmy? That he fucked up something that brought him genuine joy and connection because Syd knew the real him, while Claire liked Logan and Carmy's brokenness? The way Claire would enable him in his bad tendencies? How is he gonna realize all that?

Honestly, I don't know what these writers have planned for how Carmy comes to the realisation that season 3 Carmy is not it lol. But I have one suspicion about how it might go, and it has less to do with Carmy and more to do with Syd.

We have to go back to season 1 where it all started. Where Sydney met Carmy and articulated within the first three episodes of the show, her hopes for her future and the future of The Beef.

Recall 1x02 Hands and the convo between her and Richie in Richie's car:

Sydney: You know the restaurant could be good. Like I know you know that. Like it doesn't have to be a place where the food is shitty, and where everybody acts shitty and feels shitty. Like it could be a good legit spot.

Cut to season 3, after Syd and Carmy have overhauled the restaurant and everyone is...well...acting shitty, feeling shitty and the food is looking like a damn mess:

Sydney: You know, I think this place could be so different from all the other places we've been at. But in order for that to be true, we need to run things different.

Then cut to season 3 where we have EC Carmy decidedly not running things different at The Bear. Instead, he repeats toxic communication and management styles from his past:

Recall 1x05 Sheridan and Sydney's vulnerability with Carmy about why she started her catering business, Sheridan Road, after leaving the restaurant scene:

Sydney: Like it was the first time I didn't have a complete and utter psychopath behind me screaming, and pushing and yelling, and I thought I wanted that, you know?

Cut to season 3 and, well, you know the drill: behold our fav Executive Jeff acting like an utter psychopath and partaking in some screaming, pushing and yelling.

So what happened in season 3? Why have things gone in almost the exact opposite direction of what Sydney hoped for in season 1?

To my mind, the answer to that question lies in season 2 and what both Syd and Carmy were doing during that season. Yes, Syd spent most of season 2 setting up the restaurant alone while Carmy played hooky with Claire. But what was more striking to me was the contrast in effort that both of them put into actually doing things different at the restaurant (as per their pledge to each other during the alley chat of 1x03 Brigade).

Breaking cycles

I agree with @yannaryartside: Carmy playing hooky with Claire in season 2 was him numbing himself (i.e. Claire is the drug that he was addicted to for this purpose). I also reckon he was using Claire as another way to keep Mikey in his life - a reverse-engineered haunt - particularly while the most obvious physical manifestation of Mikey in the present day (The Beef itself) was being transformed into something else entirely. That kind of change - that kind of loss - couldn't have been easy for Carmy, particularly as The Bear was something he had wanted to open with this brother in the first place. I get why Carmy would "self-medicate" with Claire to try and numb some of the pain he may have felt, I really do.

But while Carmy was spending so much of his time either avoiding or dulling his pain, it meant he had little time or energy for working through these things. We know that he has been making attempts at this particularly in relation to his familial trauma and grief (as evidenced by his attendance at Al-Anon meetings). But throughout seasons 1-3 we see almost no work on Carmy's part to address the abuse and trauma that he's experienced in professional kitchens. We do not see him trying to prepare himself for the task of leading an entire restaurant. The first and only time we see Carmy start this process is in the last episode of season 3, when he bravely confronts Chef David Fields at the funeral dinner for Ever.

Now admittedly, Sydney does not have the history of familial abuse that Carmy does. But as discussed above, she does share a history of professional abuse in the restaurant industry with him. Its why the two of them make that promise to each other to do things different in 1x03 Brigrade.

To this end, Sydney spends almost all of season 2 working to enhance her leadership skills to make herself better for the staff she'll be leading as CDC of The Bear. Recall her book, Leading with the Heart by Mike Krzyzewski (Chicago-born, Polish-American and hugely successful former basketball coach of the Duke University Blue Devils and the American national basketball team), gifted to her by her father, Emmanuel:

In the beginning of 2x07 Forks, we follow Sydney as she surveys The Bear during renovations and while she works on a menu idea. This opening sequence features the following narration from an interview with Krzyzewski (which reiterates the show's ongoing message that none of us are alone, particularly when we take the time to listen to one another):

The other thing is that you're not gonna get there alone. You know, be on a team. You know, surround yourself with good people and learn how to listen.

You're not gonna learn with you just talking.

And when you do talk, converse. Don't make excuses. Figure out the solution. And you don't have to figure it out yourself.

I always wanted to be part of a team and obviously I wanted to lead that team. You know, [...] what an interesting life it is to be a leader.

The advice Coach K gives in the above monologue is also mirrored in Marcus' eulogy for his mother where he spoke about the importance of listening. It's also gold advice for how to be consistent in relationship to others. I've spoken here about the themes of chaos and consistency on this show and how one of Carmy's battles is understanding that,

[C]onsistency in terms of a product (e.g. a clean kitchen every night or immaculately plated dishes each service) and consistency in terms of relationships are two different things. You can strive for consistent products but destroy all your relationships in the pursuit of them. Conversely, if you strive for consistency in your relationships, you may not always make consistent products (and quite frankly, that's OK - is a perfectly plated agnolotti dish worth Carmy's relationship with Tina? Is driving Syd to a panic attack worth Carmy's pursuit of a star? I think not on both counts).

Sydney took the time throughout season 2 to learn how to be consistent and effective as a leader. She knew - and knows - that simply being an excellent chef is not going to cut it when it comes to running a restaurant and leading a team. This took time and effort on her part but she was committed to making The Bear different to all the other places she'd been at, so she did it. I should also note that Syd did this internal work while menu-planning and trying to push herself culinarily. She was doing so much lifting. Jealousy of Claire aside, I am surprised Syd didn't rip Carmy a new one when he talked about rejigging the menu while at his girl-who's-a-friend's house lmao.

Cut to season 3 though, and Syd is running The Bear with Carmy who has spent the entire season not having put in the work to change the chemistry in their restaurant. Of course Syd tries to counter this as best she can. She runs interference with the team and gently tries to steer the ship. But as she says in 3x09 Apologies, things have been off at The Bear.

So when Syd tells us in 3x05 Children that she's an accomplice, I can't help but feel that in her heart, Sydney believes she's an accomplice in the betrayal of their vision - Sydney and Carmy's shared vision for The Bear - from season 1. The vision she worked so hard during season 2 to bring to fruition.

By season 3, they've betrayed it and each other: family style is no where to be found and The Bear looks and feels like all the other places Syd and Carmy have been at. While exhausting for Carmy ("I'm so fucking sick of this"), this would have been devastating for Syd, given all she's done to try and avoid this outcome. You can understand why she'd consider an offer like Shapiro's (though we know she's not going to take it).

Given the events of 3x10, where Carmy confronts Chef David and has that heart-to-heart with Chef Terry, its clear his perspective on Michelin mode is starting to shift. I think the threat of losing Sydney will scare the shit out of him too. But what I think will prompt Carmy to actually change his behaviour in season 4 is the realisation that he too is an accomplice and has betrayed not just himself but Sydney and their team as well. Season 4 will necessarily need to be told, at least in part, from Syd's perspective so that the impact of this on Syd is made clear to the audience (Storer and Calo, are you listening? Its me, a desperate fan). And once Carmy recognises his role in continuing the traumatic professional legacy championed by Chef Fields, he can get into working through and breaking that cycle. I'll be seated and ready for it.

One of my mutuals opinions is the "bro code" thing, that Curly is one of those guys who wouldn't care about the victim because the perpetrator is his friend and I'm really banging my head on the wall like that other anon. I've only played through the game once but Curly's behaviour/reactions etc read completely different from the "bro code" thing and I have to wonder if my mutual and I even played the same game.. like the constant digs at him from Jimmy, his body language in his face reveal and so on like you mentioned in your post. While this game is a little different obviously, it kind of reminded of a point in Alice Madness Returns that makes it very clear that Alice's pain blinded her to the abuse of the other children and her failure to act earlier because of it. Curly is guilty of a similar inaction but it doesn't change the fact he was a victim of Jimmy too. I don't think I can look at it any other way because both of these games have really stuck with me.

I genuinely think it really is the idea that people want a simple easy to blame problem and the idea that the only relatable victims of abuse are those that "surpass" it or do a lot to help others. When it comes to victims, especially those that don't fit the typical demographics, who either accidently perpetuate it, enable it or aren't ideal in some way shape or form, people jump to ignore what they went through as it's easier than dealing with those conflicting sentiments.

The bro-code conversation in Mouthwashing stems from a concept I generally dislike that there had to be something about Curly that made him meet or keep being friends with someone like Jimmy. I think people genuinely underestimate how many like decent and good people just know an asshole or are friends with someone who is really bad outside of their view/established dynamics. The game makes it clear none of the inaction against Jimmy is because of a lack of care, it is a lack of understanding from the privaleged postions they have as men to not have to worry about what Anya does/went through and the type of extremes men like Jimmy will go through to cover it up. They are all too preoccupied in their own strifes.

Another thing I see being oversaturated the idea that you have to be a freak, misanthrope or have a disorder to do the thing Jimmy does. The game is an escalation, it's a spiral that I don't see people comment on that Jimmy was not likely having the mood swings and episodes of rage/frustration we were seeing in the game. This is after they all start experiencing the worst moments in their lives that he got THAT openly bad. Of course, this is just my interpretation but much like in real life, people that go to extremes like that usually live mundane lives. It's a pressure cooker affect to where the stress made them pop. It's self inflicted but still the case.

I really think people need to be more willing to acknowledge that not everything needs to be an extreme or in black and white or easy to understand. It doesn't need to be happy or have an answer or solution, especially in the cases where the abused sadly helps perpetuate what they experience. It's not he should've known better from experience or shouldn't he have known what could've happened because victims tend to not like to think in matters of the worst. Not to mention, especially in cases of abuse where it feels so personally directed that you don't expect to happen to someone else.

Togame doesn't want to be alone, and he doesn't want Choji to be alone either, which contributes to why he enabled him so much ↑ there are so many other reasons too, and all of them color this grief and guilt he carries throughout the panels we get of his perspective

Togame is an example of guilty overindulgence, of being overly accepting of a behavior simply because the possibility of being alone is so much worse

Sugishita is a fanatic, i'll give them that, and that is the driving point of his character. At first. -> since this anon thinks reading manga is so beneath them, clearly this slipped by

Umemiya met Sugishita when the blue haired boy was in middle school. obviously that's going to leave an impression, Sugishita is going to want to be like the cool older guy that saved him. that is a normal mindset [it's not a healthy one, but it makes sense given how things played out]

However, once he realizes the mindset that he has and why he thinks Sakura is so cool, he makes the effort to change

And finally, Endo is a chronic people pleaser. Technically, all of the above are some form of it -> Endo is more direct about it with his various lines of 'i like giving people things they like' and his admittance of changing his personality depending on who he's with to make them happy

He's obsessive, specifically with Takiishi, but in the moments we get of him just doin' his own thing we learn that essentially he's just a burnt out gifted kid ↑ Endo is very silly too, don't get me wrong, but his thoughts are those of a burnt out gifted kid. he's good at everything, so he's bored

all of these characters have so much nuance to them and so many little quirks about their personalities, that watering them down to just hero worship completely negates all the themes that they represent ∟ they're only 'one dimensional' to you, because you refuse to read subtext

I've got a lot to say on this one.

First of all, yes. I totally think that the show had some obvious kind of bias towards the Blacks. Not necessarily with the way the Greens were treated as devils with no likeable qualities except for Alicent (even if there are several instances of them doing so) but more because of the way the Blacks were whitewashed.

Rhaenyra.

Look, you'll never catch me not expressing my contempt for this woman, no matter the fact she was brought up by a man who did nothing but spoil, enable and indulge her in everything and anything she says and does. I can see the path they're taking in the show by adapting her as an irresponsible woman who flees at the minimal inconvenience and cowers to her dad at any minor inconvenience, but literally everything that makes her Rhaenyra Targaryen, Rhaenyra Targaryen, is removed.

She just looks like the next girlboss Targ Dragonrider queen after Daenerys. They basically made GOT season 8 and sent show!Rhaenyra as an apology. But in doing so they basically made her... Boring. Her and her children, which I don't love or hate. (The closest one I am to "liking" is Jace, I guess, but the leaks are just making me rethink everything again.)

I would've loved it if they had given us ONE pre-Dance book!Rhaenyra scene that would've made her appear more ruthless than what we have on the show, and not just the time when she offered 10 year old Aemond to be tortured. Make her ask Daemon to go after Vaemond (sorry pookie) like she did in the books, make her feed his corpse to her dragon. Sure that wouldn't have made me change my mind about how much I dislike her bUt it WOULD'VE made me go "damn she stands on business."

I wanted her to act out of grief and insist on going to war when she miscarried Visenya and lost her father, because although I don't think that the Greens did kill that poor little girl (she had dragon features and was likely going to die anyway) I do think that Rhaenyra should've been allowed her pain and the irrational and impulsive thinking that comes with it.

Alicent.

OH BOY.

Where do I even begin with this one?

Olivia Cooke SLAYED. Lemme just start with that. She took the whole cake and ate it too and left no crumbs. The direction they've taken with her is a realistic one, at least for the actions and decisions she's taking. Reckless, for sure. Risky, deathly even. Her fear is realistic, even for someone as Alicent Hightower no matter how much determination had protected her from dread.

What I don't like is the way she was treated as everyone's object and her shutting up about it. From Rhaenyra to Larys, everyone uses her for their own disgusting pleasures or outlet of frustration. And she's made to take it without fighting back even once. The one time she does, bless her, she's treated as a woman who's gone mad.

Now, I would've been fine with her taking all these hits if only they knew how to make Alicent change properly and completely from there. If it was me, the incident at Driftmark would be my start to revenge. No longer would I look at Rhaenyra with hope to reconcile with her. No longer would I bear any more of Viserys' shit when it's clear his first daughter (the image of his first wife) bears way more importance to him than me and all the four kids he forced me to have combined.

They'd have to nightly talk me out of suffocating him with my pillow a minute more for every wince and ache my now eyeless son suffers, for a month straight if not more. I wouldn't eagerly stand by his side and listen to his last words only to mistake them for permission to go along with my plans. I'd stand there passively at best, waiting for him to be done, before leaving the room.

Everything else can just be left the same way it was. Her fear when she realizes the effect Viserys' death has on her and her children is realistic. I'd break down for a moment too. I'd act as soon as I could too. I'd cry tears of relief, dread, grief (depends on how you interpret that scene) too. After letting his stinky ass rot for a fortnight. I would've preferred this to be a "there was a plan, but we weren't ready to act it out" situation more than a "what the fuck is going on" situation.

I'd also slap that "you toil in service of other men" dialogue from Rhaenys right back in her face (sorry grandma) since if we're talking about the show, it's literally the only thing she has done throughout the season.

House Velaryon.

HEAVY on this one. They have been done so wrong on so many levels. Every single one of them.

Laena was made to "pursue" Daemon, she changes from a precious, small and shy little girl to a confident, seductive young woman (teenager for fuck's sake, screw everyone who thought making her change this way would've been good) and later on a side piece, "the one Daemon settles for because he can't have Rhaenyra" even if it was known that she was the only one he was never unfaithful to, "she's made her peace" (WTF???????).

It apparently never hits Corlys that the bitch who he believes has made him childless (I AM TALKING ABOUT DAEMON) deserves no support from him and his house or that Luke should actually become a ward there at Driftmark if he's so adamant on keeping this farce that he's a Velaryon and the next Lord of the Tides.

Vaemond is seen as the odd, evil and power hungry one for pointing out that his house is falling into an OBVIOUS bastard's hands whether this kid likes it or not (even as my support for this claim goes as far as questioning Luke's parentage) and to add insult to injury he's made to say Rhaenyra is a whore, which never happened in the books.

The Silent Five are removed completely, Vaemond's sons as well (@redrosesandcharmingsouls knows I was FROTHING at the mouth waiting for Daemion Velaryon to make an appearance but the motherfuckers couldn't even give me that) so that we don't have any kind of reason to believe an execution so brutal and unjust had any repercussions on the support House Velaryon has on the Blacks overall. They are made into Rhaenyra's cheering squad through and thorough, even if they have every reason to be anything but.

The Laenor situation is actually really fucking funny. They made him leave instead of killing him to not bury the gays and they aren't aware that this has totally fucked everything up. Like thanks for telling me ALL of Rhaenyra's children are bastards. Cool, HOW THE FUCK TO YOU HANDLE SEASMOKE NOW?

Aegon II.

No this isn't an apologist post. I'm actually slithering on the ground on my knees for TGC daily but Aegon is a clusterfuck right now, no matter how you look at it. They tell us he's a psycho drunken rapist and he likes to watch children fighting every Sunday and when you actually see his adult version he's a crying love starved bitch of a man and he winces and frowns when Vaemond's head is cut off.

Instead of taking the throne to protect his children, he takes it because he's forced. And that makes Alicent the villain in everything once again. Now it doesn't matter if you look at the book version or what we see of the show version, everywhere you look this is just out of character.

It's inconsistent. He's made the worst thing ever so people can say "See??? They believe a rapist is better to put to the throne than our girlboss virtuous heir!!!" you either make him a psycho or a touch starved baby, why make both?

So yeah, I think this is all. For now. We'll have to see how this show progresses to see if I change my mind in any way.

I don't know if anyone else has felt this way to this extent, but Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Tolkien, and even Bofur in general, have definitely changed my life and only made things better. I love my other hyperfixations too, but this one is hugely different and stands out from the rest. I may moan about the 'half of the fandom' that may not like my OC, or the hundreds of Bofur/Leanna content I have posted since 2019... but the greatness that came from it outshines the haters.

Not only have my mom and I bonded stronger with my love for all things Tolkien, but because I shared with her my embarrassing love for Bofur, we have made a story, which inspired her to finally make an OC - which then inspired my dad to make an OC - and he doesn't even go on the internet! Not to mention she prefers strictly staying with the lore, so adding Leanna, Estilil, Sven and my beorn dad, was surprising!

I have drawn them so many times i have gotten comfortable with drawing unique face structures and natural wrinkles, hands, poses, expressions, because i want to match the love that emits from the films.

I have met some wonderful friends and followers that have definitely enabled and pushed the love even further and motivated me to keep posting. I didn't get as much hate as I first expected to ship an oc as hard as I do with a canon character. Granted I did get some anon hate through the years that hurt, but what can you do. The inspiration I give fellow OC creators gives me a nice boost!!

Anyways, like I said, I know I bitch about the hater side of the fandom, but nobody wants to be hated for doing something they love. In the end, it was all a positive experience. I hope some of you have felt something similar too.

My first was Pottery; or Function, Purpose and Heart on Mar 11, 2023. It was a retired Dreamling fic with Destruction (who I call Joe) as the main character.

I moved fairly quickly into my Spy x Family crossover series. Anya is so cute, and throwing her in with Dreamling and the Endless family led to a lot of fun shenanigans! (Generally you don't need to know Spy x Family canon to follow these.)

Next I started on my Sandman x Scooby Doo shenanigans! I really like the Scooby Gang, and there are definitely some mysteries to solve surrounding the Endless! (With awesome art by @sab-draws!)

Gaulcienne caught my eye next. Lucienne, my beloved librarian, and the shape-changing dream-fairy? Oh yes! A Quiet Love with Wings has most of my commissioned art, with pieces by @athymelyreply for Sometimes when You Fall, You Fly, @ibrithir-was-here for Fireflies and a Missing Person, and @designtheendless for The Dragon Rider!

King of Night and Prince of Day, for @nathanwonderwolf's wonderful art, has the second highest kudos of all my fics.

Then I invented an OC who is the preteen personification of the consciousness of humanity, aka Social Media. I thought this was pure crack but people liked it and now it's a series! Dinner and Play was created with @carnelianmeluha's food ideas in mind!

My Dreamling works tend to be short and sweet, often prompted by something on tumblr or discord, and are collected as Dreamling vignettes.

I have recently written (but not yet posted) my first honest to god smut, but early dabbles in the craft were mostly crack, like my Helm Fucking Crack series. I'm unreasonably proud of how cracked it is, and thank everyone who enabled me (notably @sleepsonfutons, @windsweptinred, @tickldpnk8, @zzoomacroom, read their fics!).

My obsession with Fuckboi Dream (mind the tags) is ongoing, and included creating a chapter index with notes so I can find things, a series about Murphy's childhood (somebody please read these, they are so cute), and others, fanart as well!

In The Dragon's Tongue, Lucienne takes on Titania! I commissioned @lostelfwriting to write the bdsm continuation of the scene, and she did a fantastic job!

A Reunion in the Dreaming (picnic recreated here) was the first fic in Walking with the Walkers, my series about Rose, Jed and Unity. It features Rose and Ara (Barbie transformed in Life is but a Dream), Rose and Jed meeting their Endless family members, Jed and Gault having adventures, and Unity throwing family parties in the Dreaming (with art by @ilya-halfelven).

Trials of a Shapeshifter in Love (in which Gault tries to surprise Lucienne with a romantic dinner) was my favourite fic from October 2023 -- Femslash weekend (by @sandmanfemslashfans ) and Monsterfucktober (by @seiya-starsniper and friends) made it a really fun month! I also wrote Chantal and Zelda, Johanna and Death, and zombie Lyta (my most angsty fic, I believe).

Just Get Me Off the Damn Mountain was written for designtheendless' contest and omg, I won! It is my most popular fic, at 185 kudos!

I also wrote an OG story for NaNoWriMo! At 23k, Wander Witch is by far my longest story (the next longest is under 9k).

After a bit of being stuck, I got started again by writing continuations of @gabessquishytum's asks! Thank you to Gabe and to all the anons and contributors who allowed me to post their parts of the story!

Asmi, @weirdly-specific-but-ok, argued that he does not have a fandom, so (with permission) I proved him wrong by writing fanfic where he meets Crowley and the Maggot Fam. I love you, Asmi and the maggots!

Heading on an Adventure, the story of Rose and Orpheus' road trip, led to a series of library adventures for Lucienne (often featuring Meowpheus), starting with The Library Cat and continuing in the Lucienne my Beloved series.

I wanted more Lucienne and Walkers content, so I started a side blog, @lucienne-my-beloved, and am open to prompts there! On ao3, the series is called ficlets for lucienne.

Hob Meets the Doctor June 7, 2389 and The line I will not cross and the line I will (Gaulcienne) are my space fics, and I am unreasonably happy about them!

I'm now writing for @augustwritingchallenge! (They got me over 100 in my wips a week or two ago!) I combined prompts so you'll see a fic every 2-5 days in various series and fandoms, including Good Omens (Aug 30) and Dead Boy Detectives (soon).

Personally? I would be alerting my bodyguards polycule to the intrusion. But no HG just, rolls with the punches. I respect that.

But to get into the actual nitty gritty and the Connections(tm) to sidestep, focusing on the friendly + mind conversation because that's what I saw in my run.

In the friendly conversation where sidestep takes their helm off you get so much insight into HG's relationship with their sibling.

Although my favorite part of the mind talk is this:

The way that i am obsessed with ["dialogue" he lied] in texts. ALso ugh, HG leaning forward, wanting to touch sidestep. To make sure they're real? to comfort them? to comfort themself? They want sidestep to be their sibling so bad, need it to be true.

In fact is sidestep dismisses it (our memories got entangled. it's nothing more than that), then HG begs them to answer the question anyway, and are very clearly unwilling to let it go even though they won't force the answer because they're at a disadvantage.

You can feel the hope radiating from ${hghim}. An old wound, reopened. Someone who loved ${hghis} *if afab   little sister *elseif amab   little brother *else   younger sibling and is now hoping that ${hghe} had been wrong all along. That there is a chance there had been no death. No body. Just someone disappeared into the system for whatever nefarious purposes. Someone who might be sitting at the table across from ${hghim}. I've had a pretty severe anxiety disorder (which fuels insomnia) and mental health struggles since hs and I didn't mind being left alone to a degree but I didn't like isolation. Well, a supposed 'rad'/feminist tried to change that via weeks/months long harassment campaign/doxxing/spamming my selfies on kiwifarms and a site that enables bullying, she made two different threads there! Guess sharp-rosee feels comfy sleeping in her bed at night knowing that she didn't spend months fending off psycho bullies in 2011 who made thread after thread to bully a 20 yo who was just lonely and who's bullying started when a random shitty woman responded to a selfie I shared in a thread that I shouldn't have replied to with 'i'd like to hit her with a shovel'. I've spoken to @radicalite about this, she knows the full details and i'll just link to her to avoid giving to much away here.

meet tumblr user @sharp-rosee, a champion of MoC (here she is compiling a list of users OUT OF THE HUNDREDS OF NOTES IN A POST to out 'racists')(the original @mandyfem post) and recently, she claimed that "Lostelvenqueen and Nerdylilpeebee are gone (due to yours truly!)" in a radfem space, something attributed to menalez/@mithliya previously, by random users in radblr.

This will come in handy b/c menahole loves butting into other people's business/posts regardless of whether they have anything to do with her to shame and attack mindlessly regardless of whether she understands what's going on b/c she loves abusing the visibility she has to intimidate people and draw sympathy (she did this to me multiple times while accusing me of 'harassment' when I rbied a post about her deflecting rad criticism of islam/muslim men to add context to her posts), this behavior is relevant b/c she uses it as justification to encourage people like rosee to harass others. Mena quit tumblr a few times last fall b/c she was clashing with other users and ignoring criticism.

Anyway, I reported EIGHT separate main blogs sharp-rosee made to threaten and intimidate me over a few weeks. She dug up socmedia she'd only know about if she was either following me and/or talking to other harassing idiots. It was unclear what the point of it was other than to be an insane weirdo with a huge chip on their shoulder. I should have screenshotted each report to help substantiate that claim but I didn't. I might share a imgur album of what I've got.

My previous history with rosee, to establish that she knew who I was and that it's unlikely that a random was doing this (or know about the handful of personal posts i make a month that get buried by the rbies).

here she squatting on the blog handle i had before I changed it to escape mena and her drama vampire army until tumblr nuked her blog for doxxing. all of her blogs were reported but didn't all get termed. she made burner blogs to repeatedly retweet selfies and personal posts from months back. She obviously had a grudge. This was personal to her. regardless of the fact that I was a stranger who had never done anything to her. She has been following and responding to me for months, only to turn into a monster. being a pornsick psycho WoC on radblr certainly is something, eh @sharp-rosee?

I don’t know if it is exactly “dislike” what I feel for Naruto. I think it is more like disappointment. I don’t want to bore you, since this has been stated so many times before by people way more eloquent than me. But, in summary, Naruto had the opportunity to meet many victims of the Shinobi system and Konoha in particular, and he merely dismissed them with what turned out to be empty promises in the end. I can’t stand his “friendship will solve everything” approach. Or his strategy of talking people into giving up their very legitimate rage just in exchange of his happy words, while justice is never served and nothing really changes in the end.

I can’t stand that he just expects people to endure, give up and trust him. I don’t hold it against him if he was naïve during his youth, if he couldn’t understand Sasuke’s legit wrath towards Konoha or if he failed to identify his heroes as the genocidal criminals that they were in reality. But I expected more (well, something) from the adult man that became Hokage. You know, it is fine if a child dreams about becoming ninja ruler to gain popularity, but an adult should have deeper goals.

I don’t think Naruto and Itachi are in the same dimension to be fairly compared. You don’t hold a random person to the same standards as a figure of authority. Let alone a powerless child and an adult with political power. You will never see me defending what Itachi did. Yes, he murdered his family, there is no denying that, there is no way we can pretend his decisions were right. He was a 13 year-old child, brainwashed, groomed, burdened with too many responsibilities, traumatized by war and trained only on violence, convinced he could trust nobody. He did not decide to kill his family on a whim, he was threatened with the death of his baby brother. And yes, with a sane mind, from a situation of safety, we might think of other choices he should have followed. Of course. But this was not the case for him.

He was a proud disciple of the will of fire. There is no doubt about that. Still, he was ready to betray Konoha and let hell break lose if something were to happen to his brother. Still, he never idolized the kage or any of Konoha’s leaders the way Naruto did. He was not trying to be popular or gain any position of power or privilege from his actions. In his distorted, disturbed mind, all he wanted to do was to save his brother, to save people, to avoid more violence. Yes, it makes no sense to execute a genocide to avoid casualties. Still, that was, canonically, the way he reasoned. He was used by Konoha and he never got any personal benefit for what he did. It is very different, you know, defending an ideology because it benefits you in your position of privilege, and defending an ideology because you were brainwashed into doing so to facilitate your own oppression. The first one is a perpetrator and the second one is a victim. And I can’t see Itachi as anything other than a victim from the Shinobi system and Konoha. A victim of the people whose paintings are hanging from Naruto’s Hokage office, by the way… How can I blame the child that was coerced into doing the dirty job by the government, instead of the government that ordered him to do so and benefited from it?

What Itachi did was deranged and cruel, and he did that instigated by the government of Konoha. Since this is so obviously monstrous and horrifying, how come this was not acknowledged by dear ball-of-sunshine Hokage, like, ever? How come this was all swept under the rug, how come the enabler of the massacre is still respected and glorified?

I think this just proved the point of the anon. Yes, Chris is human as we all are, but any time people say anything negative about him, it’s always well there are worse men.

We’re talking about Chris Evans though, not other men, if he was this stand up guy he would NOT be in this situation.

People have and continue to make excuses for him to the point people believe this isn’t him and he’s being forced in this mess, but my question is…..what if this IS him?

His past gfs haven’t been the best either, this current one being the worst due to obvious trolling and racist besties to the point we have to question who he really is to have thought she was the one or publicly have the world believing that’s his wife.

I know many believe due to many things this is fake, but what if it’s not. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Fake or not, he signed off on being associated to her as HUSBAND AND WIFE!

Maybe people simply refuse to accept that the stand up guy many thought really isn’t that stand up.

No mature adult man is going to be in a real or fake relationship with a 26 year old, simple as that. Chris has more control than people realize.

Fandoms get closer and closer to the line of cults because no one can see that these people sell images, matter of fact many will read this ask and try to take one thing and deflect from the bigger issue.

There were people saying Chris doesn’t like women like her because she posted her shower videos and has allegedly been doing videos for pay, yet people forget this man was coddled for posting his own dick pic.

People are going to do as they please, but just be mindful that sometimes your love and infatuation for a person can lead one to becoming very blind.

Chris is going to remain doing crap like this because he makes terrible choices and those choices get enabled or written off with excuses.

I said people, not men. Nobody said he is the best person in Hollywood or that he is the best man in the world. I just said that he doesn't seem a bad person considering what other people do in Hollywood. 

Do we know him? No. He might not be in this because of business but because he loves her. That's a possibility as well. We think it might be fake based on his previous relationships, his previous behavior, his behavior with Alba, and because of the weirdness of this whole relationship. We don't know anything for sure. We just theorize here. 

I do agree that it's dangerous if we put our heads in the sand and act like he is this perfect human being, but the same goes about thinking he is the worst person in this world. I think calling him out is okay, and yeah, he shouldn't be allowed to do whatever he wants, but the line is very thin between healthy and unhealthy fan behavior. Fans shouldn't feel like they can do and say whatever they want either. 

I also think it's really important to not have tunnel vision when it comes to him, because he is still someone we don't fully know. But at the same time, accusing him of crimes isn't right either. Again, the line is very thin. 

But I wouldn't say he doesn't feel the displeasure of the fans when it comes to this situation. Losing followers and fans, getting called out, and getting bullied (which I still don't agree with) shows how unpleasent fans are with his choices. But yeah, there will be people who will always try to find excuses, and they do the same thing with Alba too at this point, but that's how it is. You can go and call those people out too, because we "excusing" him when we say this is PR, and they "excusing" him saying Alba and her fans aren't even that bad, and they must've changed aren't that far from each other. There's always been and will be people who keep excusing someone's behaviors and actions, and he won't be the first counterexample.

eh. usually i try to be objective with evidence posting because ive been through many, many, cancellations before. If i see something that doesn't sit right with me, i consider it a positive to point that out. I've always held the opinion that people trading evidence should be willing to respond to good-faith skepticism to strengthen their doc, so i think i've overlooked how taxing it must be to sift through white knighters and so called 'good faith' skeptics. for that i'd wanna apologize, and let other anons know that it costs nothing to be upfront about your intentions when being skeptical.

See...that I can get behind. That I can understand. I really do try to do the same thing myself. I've been canceled a good few times, especially back in the early 2010's where everything was offensive and we were sort of feeling out this new more accommodating internet era. I used to be a massive fucking troll, I was downright an asshole so I know what it's like to change, but still have your past define you which is why I didn't bring up Hbomb's history.

I'm willing to respond to good faith crit and skepticism, I think other people should be more open to it without labeling people something or the other, I've done it over and over and over and over and over again. I posted everything I could and tagged it and reblogged it and shared it as far as my platform will allow.

If I don't do that though they accuse me of bad faith, sometimes even if I link them to my pasts posts, but don't walk them through them and explain then spread around I don't have proof further enabling and even empowering who I'm talking about to cause further harm so I feel like I am obligated to do this over and over and over and over and over and over.

You mentioned in the tags of a recent post what you’d change about Funny Story to make it a different book. Would you mind elaborating on what you meant by that? I’m curious!

hey anon, thank you for being a massive enabler bc this has in fact been my special topic for the last 48hrs.

I want to state off the bat that I still gave this book 4.75 stars. I really, really enjoyed it. That being said, I'd literally rewrite the entire thing to get it to 5.

Answer under the cut to avoid spoilers! (also shout out to @eldritchcow bc these ideas are not formed alone but through a series of ranting voice notes lmfao)

The premise of Funny Story is that two exes move in with each other after their partners run away together - the main character, Daphne, has her wedding cancelled as a result, and Miles, the love interest, also gets a pretty crap deal bc his girlfriend literally breaks up with him via A NOTE ON THE KITCHEN COUNTERTOP, before running off on holiday with another man (after they hook up AT HIS BACHELOR PARTY. DAPHNE AND MILES DESERVED TO DO VIOLENCE). Miles and Daphne move in together, a series of circumstances means that Daphne tells her ex they are now dating, and that Miles will be her plus to the NEW WEDDING that they have been INVITED TO.

Personally, I think this - two exes move in, fake date, develop feelings - is such a juicy set up for a novel, that it could carry the whole plot. But at about the halfway mark, a bunch of other stuff - family drama, friendship drama - is bought in for the third act conflict. The exes and all their drama fades to the background, and its no longer about this Very Juicy Set Up, which I think is a shame. I think that the premise could've carried the entire plot and that there was no need to bring in additional conflict... except that Emily Henry is known for adding conflicts outside of romance to her novels (creating well-rounded, 'feminist' characters - I'm not being mean, that is just the perception of it and what she is known for) and that this is thus more brand appropriate. By the same logic, it is 'less feminist' of me to argue that the book should've been more about the romance.

But it should've been more about the romance.

If I rewrote/re-edited this book, I would do the following.

Make Daphne and Miles be messier people. These two characters behave like FUCKING SAINTS, while their exes are awfully and affably evil. I've had multiple friends say that Daphne should've hit Peter (her ex) with a car. I don't necessarily think that would've been the way, but I think she should've made much more spiteful decisions. I think Henry is very concerned in stressing that these are Two Very Goody and Utterly Blameless main characters, but I think they should've gotten a little spite as a treat, actually.

And the spite they should've gotten as a treat is - fucking each other.

As is the way with romance books, there are certain 'acceptable thresholds' for smut/romance scenes. So I get it, I really do. But Daphne and Miles only bang once it's a healthy decision... and I'll be honest, it would've been sexier if they had had sex in an unhealthy place. (for the people who've read the book: kiss at the drunk night out with Gil, sex at the truck or before the truck, then Sex With Real Feelings at the point where they actually have sex)

If they had had sex out of spite/petty revenge first, then the entire plot of the book could've been around 'catching feelings' and this would still have been a totally valid character arc. I would've liked to have seen more questionable decisions that are still somewhat about the exes - more of the 'are we doing this for them or for ourselves?' conflict which is microdosed at the midway point - and then feelings developing, and then making the 'no I actually really like you so we can't do this for the wrong reasons anymore' be the final sex scene before the third act conflict

Two things would be vastly improved by this change: 1. a weird scene where Miles sees Daphne in her former wedding dress, and they really should've fucked? but they don't? because that would be the tiniest bit weird??? (like, slightly weird and messy, in such the smallest way, but I think it was sanitised down for that reason) 2. the fact that their exes break up and call-off their wedding off screen. Have them break up at the rehearsal dinner that Miles/Daphne are attending, actually. Then you have your third act conflict.

The third act conflict of Funny Story is insane, convoluted, and unrelated to the story, IMO. Is it still well written? YES. Emily Henry, you will always be famous. But my favourite parts of it were 1. both Miles and Daphne get caught in their exes' orbit as they break up, and this causes them both to doubt their relationship (shout out to Miles having such low self esteem that he automatically thinks they're back together, I understand you king) 2. Daphne fucks up a promise she made to a friend (but bc she's not allowed to be a bad person - see the first point - it's for totally understandable reasons), leading her to wonder if she's just become part of another couple, where she's swapped one man and his house for another man, and his house. I personally think that these VERY MINOR FOOTNOTES in what is ACTUALLY the third act conflict... are a third act conflict in and of themselves. And... if we go back to what I said about Emily Henry being known for Feminism™, the second part of that is a totally valid trope/feminist critique to dig into in depth that would, if given time to breathe, be 'on brand'.

In this book, Miles drives 2hrs to try and get Daphne's shitty dad to come back to her. Where is this energy, for Peter? I think, Miles should've punched Peter, as a treat. And Petra should've had more scenes, so that she actually had a personality beyond 'being hot'.

I think we should've had a messy wedding scene. Daphne and Miles are each others plus ones, but they never get to attend bc the wedding is called off. But that wedding?!!! or that rehearsal dinner?!!! IS THAT NOT THE STUFF THAT THIRD AT CONFLICTS DREAM OF???

TLDR - I think Funny Story should've had more sex, and been more about the romance premise and the kind of fucked up, messy choices and weird feelings that premise engendered. I think the third act should've been connected to pre-existing conflicts, instead of creating new ones. I think Miles and Daphne could've had a little revenge, as a treat. They should've allowed to be sexy and weird about it.
