Alright, today I'm defending Lady Macbeth's off-stage death.

So a lot of criticism is given to the fact that the audience only experiences Lady Macbeth's ending in the context of Mr. Macbeth being told, but it actually does justice to how she ends.

We can infer from context that she has followed in the footsteps of the tragic Shakespearean leading lady and taken her own life, but her death is the quietest of the women. It's no Juliet giving one final speech, and unlike Ophelia, she gets no funeral or collective mourning. She simply - dies. Quietly and without a scream. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

The nature of tragedy is that your hero is brought low, (and the play is about her fight me) and she is in this moment facing the consequences of her fallacy about evil.

Whereas Macbeth, guileless, hungry, and shaky Macbeth, must visibly go mad and be beheaded to learn the reality of his mistakes, Lady Macbeth has come to face the truth first, and on her own. The "out damn'd spot" monologue is usually treated as her going mad with guilt, but it's more going mad with morality, she cannot reconcile her actions with her image of herself. It's not that she's supposed to be spotless - but she realized she is the spot.

She instigated all of this, and she is going to end it herself. Much like how Gertrude's and Ophelia's deaths are examples of them (in context) taking agency, Lady Macbeth's choice to do away with her spot in the narrative is her doing so. She is not about to have her head paraded around as a lesson. She doesn't need to be taught; so she administers her own punishment.
