It's really interesting seeing people mostly interpret Sky and Viktor's relationship as romantic or her presence in the astral plane as literal.
To me, it's always been clear that Sky's connection to Viktor was one-sided and a sort of a crush or just genuinely her fangirling over Viktor. Even in the flashback scene, we see the curious way child Sky looks at Viktor, and then Viktor goes to chase his invention rather than go say hi. There's definitely something to be said about how Viktor's pursuit of his science and inventions leaves people he can build connections with behind or how the only meaningful, touch based relationship he has, either platonically or romantically, is with Jayce, but I digress.
Viktor's guilt about Sky is stronger than any feelings he might have had about her. When he fuses with the hexcore and Sky is in the astral plane and guiding him I see it not as literally Sky's spirit but more a subconscious part of Viktor's psyche itself and maybe the hexcore manipulating Viktor...
But at the end scene with Sky, when Viktor tells her he will miss their conversations, she says, 'No, you won't.' Now this is also correlating to Viktor giving up on humanity and his own humanity. So Sky might have been the metaphysical representation of Viktor's humanity. That's the shape and form of his humanity, manifesting through his guilt about Sky. When he loses her, he is physically losing his connection to humanity. It's only Jayce connecting to him as a person that's able to bring him out of his destructive view of humanity not being redeemed.
I have nothing against Sky, I think she was a important character for Viktor's development, but I don't see any romantic connection there and also believe that her presence with Viktor was more a manifestation of Viktor's humanity.

Prompt 168
So. Apparently halfas are like phoenixes or something, which Danny would’ve really liked to know.
See, usually with ghosts if they’re forced to retreat to their cores they reform as was, but apparently, since they’re still partially living, schrodinger's people and all that, halfas have to regrow their body from scratch. At least that’s what he’s understanding from Frostbite.
But how come he has to deal with it? It’s Dan’s fault for trying to pull such a stunt! Oh, it’s either him or Vlad? Well fuck, he might have calmed down and is going to therapy in both the living realm and the Zone, but he’s waaay not equipped to raise a child except for like, monetarily wise.
Well dammit, how long will this core incubation thing last, he has his new job in… let him check which offer he accepted again… He has his new job in Coast City that he needs to finish packing for and then all the rest of the stuff to do.
What do you mean it’ll take months?! He doesn’t have months?! Urgh, fine. At least being a mortician isn’t that exciting, nor dangerous. Just hand him Dan’s core and he’ll figure things out for the living side of things. He’s sure Tucker and Sam wouldn’t be against helping, if only to try and claim favorite aunt or uncle spots.
#dcxdp#dpxdc#prompts#Coast City is where Hal Jordan lives hilarious enough#I just chose a random city but honestly a green lantern city is hilariously on brand for where Danny would choose to move#He’s just a cheerful space core dude who is glaring down several ghosts & helping others move on while he’s working#He’s also slightly uncanny valley to people outside of Amity & doesn’t realize it#He runs into a reporter Wes at some point & okay the fact he looks like the lady doing math meme when seeing Dan?#Utterly hilarious#Danny holding a newborn with matching slightly pointy ears and claws :)#Wes who is *pretty sure* Danny is cis but is second guessing everything now:#Danny is going to do his best to avoid any hero BS#He’s trying to do his JOB#Who cares if he brings his baby to work he needs to eat and he isn’t going to hire a babysitter#Bby Jordan tried to set the house on fire during his last tantrum do you THINK anyone else can deal with him? That’s what he thought now ou#Ellie visits as well & straight up melts out of the wall sometimes like a horror movie#She has weaponized her goo powers and is also excited to show her dad her new gravity ones#Space Core Danny + Fire Core Vlad = Sun Core Dan#Ellie has a Moon core (something something phases of the moon & travelling across the night sky)#Danny is encountering so many rogues and heroes and just doesn’t acknowledge it because he has a literal BABY who can destroy the entire JL#He’s very tired and would like a nap now

So let's talk about the lyrics Isolde and Kakania were singing at the end of "Through the Glass"!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the story described, Isolde was singing a part of the opera "Tristan und Isolde," specifically the part where Isolde is waiting for her rendezvous with Tristan.
In this part, Isolde ignores the calling of horns that signals the arrival of King Marke—the king she's supposed to marry—, insisting that it's just the rustling of the wind or the trickling of the stream, even though her maid tells her over and over that it IS the sound of the horns and the king is nearby.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In our Isolde case, I think we can interpret the call of horns as symbolizing the reality that Isolde doesn't hear—or rather, doesn't want to hear. Because "the calling of horns does not sound so sweet" compared to "the silence of the night" (the peaceful dream she doesn't want to wake up from), and the promise of meeting with "He who is waiting for me in the silence of the night," which—I think we can agree—is Kakania in her dream.
And unlike the "run away with me, Cavaradossi" scene, this time Kakania responded with her part!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or at least... in the loose sense of it, because the part Kakania chose to sing skipped a lot of events ahead from Isolde's part, which is very interesting! Isolde's lines are from Act 2, while Kakania's are from Act 3: after the king catches Tristan and Isolde in the middle of their rendezveous, Tristan gets stabbed by his betraying friend, and he wakes up with a severe injury that will kill him very soon.
I think this might be intentional—to symbolize that Isolde is stuck in the past, in the happiest moments of her life, while Kakania is facing the reality of the present, in the aftermath of everything that has happened to them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unlike Isolde, who sang her part faithfully to the opera, Kakania took the full creative liberty of only singing a few lines from Tristan's part and straight up skipping the rest of it. Which is a bit disappointing at first (the time she actually played along with the opera act and she didn't even do it properly, smh), but this means that every single line she sang was deliberately chosen to convey what she wanted to say to Isolde!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I interpreted the first part of the lines as her expressing how lost she felt after the Storm washed away their era. She fully expected to get reversed by the Storm to atone for her sins, and now that she's left as the only survivor, she has no place nor people to return to. Her life, her purpose, the dream she worked on all her life, and the people she strived that dream for... all gone. She no longer knows where she's standing in the world and what lies ahead for her.
We can also interpret this as Kakania responding to Isolde, who was singing and waiting for Kakania as her "Tristan," saying that she can't meet her in fear of triggering Isolde's trauma and making her condition worse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the second part... is Kakania's resolve, that even if everything has changed, even if she's stranded with no era to return to, she will still stay on her path of striving to the betterment of the world, of trying to fix "the cracked mirror" no matter how fragile and broken it is. Back then, by fighting for the rights of arcanists and the other "outsiders" in Vienna, and now by doing all she can to help with the Storm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
...and this also means goodbye. Because Isolde chose to stay in the past, and Kakania, who took a different path, respected Isolde's wish and headed on alone into the future.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But goodbyes don't always last forever. And as Kakania said at the end of her story:

I thought Kim's portrait looking a little like the Rising Moon Hanafuda card was just a neat coincidence but I actually like the idea of Kim symbolising a moonrise instead of a sunrise. the Sun is the brightest star in the sky and when it's gone the Moon keeps reflecting its light. what if (if you play him as a huge communard) Harry dies just like Mazov and Kim becomes the "echo maker", the one who spreads his message

My poor fallen star,
It was not my intention to guilt you because I missed you so, because I worried sick over you and your well-being, because I feared the worst.
Your glow has been pulsing as of late - at times you are bright and others, you are so dim I cannot find you amongst the ruin and the weeds. But I never quit searching, my determination never fades.
Never, I will never give up on you or let your shine grow dull. Let me hold you up, as high as possible, arms fully stretched, attempting to give you back to the night sky. Of course, I would miss you terribly, but you are always whispering how you want to go home and I only want to see you be alright.
Sincerely, always worried,
Your lost-in-the-dark girl

Hii i have a question abt tlol u mihht know thr answer to. ❤️
While geralt and ciri fight their enemies on the stygga castle, geralt tells ciri several times yen wants to look at the sky. (If i temember correctly it was yen) Why?? Its so random? Does it have a hidden meaning? Does it refer to vilgefortz quote 'You Mistake Stars Reflected In A Pond For The Night Sky' ?
i can’t be certain that it’s not a reference to something elsewhere in literature, but i just interpret it as an expression of weariness and exhaustion. as geralt’s emotions are described:
He didn’t feel anger, resentment or hatred. He felt only weariness. And a huge desire to be done with all of it. (…)
as geralt learns from ciri, by a shake of her head, the rest of his company (cahir and angouleme) also did not survive. so he realizes all of his friends were lost. and that there is nothing left for them here.
‘Let’s get out of here,’ he repeated.
‘Yes,’ said Yennefer. ‘I want to see the sky.’
‘I’ll never leave you both,’ Ciri said softly. ‘Never.’
* funny mistake here - in the official english translation, it was printed that yennefer says “I want see the sky” :’)
so they go to leave:
In front of them was a stairway, a great stairway drowning in smoke, in the twinkling glow of torches and fire in iron cressets. Ciri shuddered. She had seen that stairway before. In dreams and visions.
Down below, far away, armed men were waiting.
‘I’m tired,’ she whispered.
‘Me too,’ admitted Geralt, drawing the sihill.
‘I’ve had enough of killing.’
‘Me too.’
‘Is there no other way out?’
No. There isn’t. Only this stairway. We must, girl. Yen wants to see the sky. And I want to see the sky, Yen and you.
they want to get out of stygga castle, but between them and escaping it is one final battle, for at the end of the staircase they see stefan skellen and his men, who they know they will have to kill in order to leave from here.
they are tired, they are wretched after having killed so much. the moral weight of killing is a huge theme in the witcher, and here is no exception - it’s not glorified that the heroes brandish their swords, the heroes feel the weight of them.
they don’t want to kill anymore. but they have to, in order to get out of the place where they killed.
it’s like ‘the only way out is through.’
“seeing the sky” = an end to this episode, freedom from this place of killing and death, escape from this black citadel, return to life
why the sky?
a significant reminder here is that they cannot see the sky from within stygga castle. for it had no windows (which was mentioned in chapter 2, but likely ceases to be present in the mind by the time you get to chapter 9). but essentially, it’s dark in that stone castle, hewn from rock:
The tapestry measured about five foot by seven and its tassels rested on the floor. It showed a rocky cliff over a tarn, and a castle carved into the cliff, which seemed to be part of the rock wall.
The castle didn’t have any windows through which she could see the surrounding terrain, or even the sun to try to orient herself.
(what a horrible place, as percieved by our human heliophilia!)
i think generally, darkness/light symbolism (or cave/sky symbolism… hi plato) is very ancient, even primal, even biological.
another analogy might be finishing a work shift at a retail store where you’ve been under flourescent lights for eight hours, and now want to leave this infernal place and finally see the sky above. there’s a feeling of exhaustion, horror, nausea whenever you’ve been separated from the sky for so long
