Summer's going well, I'm mostly really deeply in my Dead Boy Detectives hyperfixation. That's not going anywhere and I don't want it to. I'm obsessed with Edwin and Charles, they're my guys and they're special to me like the TLH characters are.

You'll be happy to know that I also read the Dead Boy Detectives comics, both the original Toby Litt run and the 2022 Sandman Presents reboot. This was rather a first for me as I usually don't like Marvel or DC comics (mostly I don't like superheroes, though, so. No hate/shade to them, they're just not my thing.) Anyway, I didn't like the comics as much as I like the Netflix show, but I did enjoy them a lot and am glad I purchased them. It makes me incredibly happy to see Edwin and Charles together and loving each other in literally every universe.

Hmmm.... Roman Empire is currently the Matthew novella. All of the snippets we've gotten are absolutely God-tier, and I LOVE the art:

God, I love Matthew SO MUCH. I'm hoping to work on a couple of fics starring him soon (a Thomastair fic feat. Matthew and a MatthewThomas friendship fic with Sophideon.) I want to finish my next Payneland week fic first, but maybe then I'll give one of those a whirl. I think the latter will be pretty long, though, so it might not go up for a while!

I've been reading a lot of random books lately. My most recent read that I LOVE and regularly think about is The God and the Gumiho. It was so well-crafted, likeable characters, and SUPER rich worldbuilding. Standalone, bittersweet ending, wonderfully colourful, highly recommend.

Careful eyes watched, trained specifically on the woman leaving the apartment. Y/n never thought she’d find herself stalking Patrick’s home, gaze following each hooker after the other, yet here she was. A couple times, she could’ve sworn she saw a girl or two get gifted a violent and bloody end to her stay, but that seemed to be slowing to a halt now.

Was Patrick giving up his killing ways? Was the pleasure overcoming his blood-lust? Or did he have someone specific in mind for his subtle killing spree?

Each time a girl walked out, unharmed, completely casual, Y/n cursed to herself. She thought of ways she could solve the problem, rid herself of the jealousy, but also confess to Patrick before anyone else could.

There was a rather large chance he’d kill her if she did, but she didn’t care. She’d rather die by his hands than any other way, at least she’d be able to tell him the truth.

Feelings aside, she set out to do the bidding of her jealous haze. A knife positioned in her sleeve so perfectly it didn’t touch her skin but still remained invisible to the eye. “Excuse me?”

The blonde turned around, less than modestly dressed, and smirked at Y/n. “Oh hey there! Is there something wrong?” Y/n opened her mouth to speak, but the woman fueled her anger with an interruption, “Could you make it quick, by the way? I’ve got an appointment with a friend of mine, if you know what I mean.”

Y/n raised an eyebrow, confused by the girl’s words.

“Nevermind. Just- get to your point?” Her friendly exterior seemed to vanish at the greeting of Y/n’s obliviousness to her inappropriate reference. Another thing that bothered Y/n. Why couldn’t Patrick pick nicer chicks?

“You and Bateman?”

“Who?” She paused, thinking, before the realization visibly hit her like a dead weight. “Ooooh, Patrick Bateman. Yeah, he’s got a nice bod. Better dick too.”

“How do you know him?”

“I’m a hooker, sweetie. My reference should’ve given it away, if not a tiny bit. I went to Patrick’s place, we hooked up, I left. That’s how it goes... Ya know, maybe he’d let me stay though. I would die for a dick as magical as his.”

“Is that so? Tsk tsk, be careful what you wish for, sweetie.” Venom dripped from the word as she whispered it, mocking the nickname the blonde had dubbed her.

Y/n pulled the woman closer to her by her hair, she turned her around and swung her arm around her neck, nudging her arm just enough to get to the knife to slip out. “Enjoy your wish, sweetie.” Blood gushed from the woman’s neck as Y/n’s knife moved in one quick motion across it.

A soft grunt escaped Y/n’s mouth as she felt the warm blood spray on her arm, some of it getting on her face as the body slipped from her grasp. She felt nothing. No regret, no guilt, no sadness. She just murdered someone, and she enjoyed it.

“Good morning Y/n. How was your night?” One of the employees greeted her, however she was too distracted to notice. Patrick turned his head, confused by the new quietness of his coworker. Normally, he could care less, but, believe it or not, her greetings made his mornings. Most of the time. He elbowed her lightly.

“Oh! It was alright I suppose. Thank you for asking.” She hummed. A sick grin was resting on her face, hidden as she leaned her head down.

Patrick slowly noticed her off behavior throughout the day, but, like mentioned, he didn’t really care. So he brushed it off and packed up. He grabbed his brief case and went home.

There was a girl supposed to arrive in a couple hours, one he’d seen before, this time he was going to give her the ending everyone who slept with Patrick Bateman got.

However.

She didn’t show up.

It was happening often. Or rather, it happened whenever he let a girl go with all her limbs and her heart still beating. They stopped returning.

Bateman walked out of his apartment, looking around for the missing girl. He was just about to head back inside before he heard a muffled scream. Patrick followed the noise, which lead him to quite a sight.

Y/n held her hand over a girl’s mouth, the same girl that was supposed to “visit” Patrick tonight. She was whispering into her ear, holding a knife to her neck with a twisted smile. He waited patiently, watching with amusement and deep curiosity. The same girl he worked with, kind caring and smart, was now preparing to drag a knife across another woman’s throat.

To be honest he didn’t have any hatred towards her or any reasoning to kill her, she was the one person in the office that he could stand. It was entertaining, seeing the most innocent person he knew commit such a violent crime.

“You see, I’m doing a good deed. For you, and me, hun.” She slid the knife against the flesh of the other woman’s throat, watching the blood leave her body, her grin growing wider.

The body dropped to the ground and Y/n shrugged. She picked up the woman, dragging her to the staircase and letting the lifeless body tumble down the stairs, then following after and most likely finding a place to dispose of said body.

Patrick found himself smirking with the side of his mouth, shocked and slightly satisfied. He caught himself, though, and regained his composure, walking back to his apartment and planning what he could do to confront Y/n. 

He needed to have a perfect plan. No scaring her off and no accidentally triggering her into killing him. 

He laughed at himself. 

There was no way she’d be able to kill him. He was bigger than her, faster than her, stronger than her, and obviously had more practice than her.

The blood was still on the carpet, so there was definitely going to be someone getting questioned in the morning. He thought for a moment. Mayhaps, he’d clean up for her this one time, can’t have anyone getting suspicious, could he?

"Good morning, Y/n.” It wasn’t the first time he’d greeted her, but it was the first that he used her first name. She mumbled a greeting back, but her head shot up when she processed his sentence fully.

“Did I hear you correctly?”

This was a first for him too, the first time he was annoyed by Y/n. Just a bit though. “That question can have many answers, Y/n. It would depend on what you believe I said.”

“I- you did it again!”

“Did what?”

“Used my first name!” she jumped up from her chair.

“Well it is your name, is it not?”

Y/n paused in front of him, “And yours is Patrick. What’re you getting at, Mr. Bateman?” She raised a curious eyebrow.

“I don’t know, Miss L/n, why don’t you tell me? I’m sure the blood near my apartment is a great conversation topic.” He quipped in a whisper. Patrick’s eyes watched Y/n’s face with hidden delight. Her eyes were the size of saucers, but only for a quick second.

“You should go to the authorities, Bateman, would hate to find out some weird murderer is out and about.”

“Yeah, would be a shame if some beautiful murderess caught up to me and put me six feet under, don’t you agree?”

They held eye contact, strong tension filling the air. Finally, they snapped. “Alright Bateman, what did you see?”

“Everything. Poor girl didn’t even get the chance to run before you watched the life drain from her eyes. You made quite a mess,” He walked around her, “luckily, I was there to pick it up for you. Don’t let it happen again.”

“Wait- what? You aren’t gonna kill me, make sure I can’t interfere with your work?”

“No, actually. It’s the opposite, in fact. I’m gonna give you a chance. I already admire you, you’re attractive, you’re not annoying, and now I know you have the killing touch to your life. You’re welcome to join in, as long as you don’t get in the way. Got it?”

She laughed, mostly convinced it was a joke. “You can’t be serious.”

“Why can’t I?”

“Oh dear god, you’re serious.”

“That I am. Now, I hope you’ll take me up on my offer, Y/n.” He walked to the door, stopping before he opened it, “Ah, one last thing.”

“And that is?”

“I’m aware that it’s none of my business, and I wouldn’t like it if you asked such a question of me, but... May I ask what drove you to kill the girls?”

Y/n let the mischievous smirk return to her lips. At work, it was a dangerous thing to show, but this was for Patrick’s eyes and Patrick’s eyes only. “Jealousy, baby.”

I think the reason is because Usagi showed his true nature and it made Misaki fall in love ❤️ 🥺 The older played a big role in helping him getting to a top uni despite his Ds so I can understand how much that will mean alot to Misaki! And this extra chapter? It speaks alot abt Usagi’s kindness. The great lengths he went to make up with Misaki for comparing him with his crush. He pretended he just happened to be there, he apologized, prepared a scarf and hot buns for Misaki beforehand in case he was cold... Awww he’s so sweet how could Misaki not fall in love :”“(

I feel like I shouldn’t have to recommend the epitome of akeshu culture but here it is. NG+ is one of the best fics I have ever read. It’s Akira restarting the game with all his memories in tact from the previous run. It’s beautifully written with peak Goro representation and it’s absolutely amazing. Its a long one with a roller coaster of emotions but its worth every second. 

Yesterday’s Protagonist by valiantarmor 

This IS IT YA’LL. This is the fic that officially turned me into a goroboi. Takes place past vanilla p5 where Goro lives and Akira reunites with him several years later. A beautiful fic where both boys heal their past scares and grow to love each other. God I love this fic I couldn’t recommend it more. 

L’appel du vide by Xov  (not completed) 

Another time travel fic because apparently we all like to see Akira suffer. Akira’s past and future haunt him. Its hard to describe this one but its very well known in the akeshu fandom. Its wonderfully written and I feel like the impending doom I feel at each update will kill me BUT I recommend it immensely. 

Hungry Thirsty Roots by coolkidroland

Au where Goro has a palace and Akira is desperate to help him. Some of the other thieves are not necessarily on the same page. Side of makoharu. One of the first fics I’ve read and the characterization ya’ll the CHARACTERIZATION is amazing. 1000/10.

Au where the Phantom thieves are wanted criminals who take out big baddies irl (no personas). Goro is a detective who despite trying to catch the famous criminal Joker, catches feelings for him instead. I love this fic, its one of the top ones I reread from time to time. Does have a fair amount of violence though so read the tags just in case! 

Home is where the heart is by sinnamon_nerd (not completed) 

Fem! Akira fic where she returns home and has to deal with the scrutiny from her peers. Luckily she runs in to a familiar face with an undercut (hngggg goro with a undercut kills me). Its such a sweet, adorable fic and each update warms my heart. The vibe of Akira’s hometown is so quaint and Goro is mad pinning. 10000/10 perfect for keeping warm during this quarantine

Shuake’s first lovers holidays series by yukari 

Two one shots that take place after p5r. Just sweet fluffy fics about Goro making a split decision to see Akira in his hometown on valentines day. So fluffy and soft I love these fics. 

Bona fide villain? by mar (gloomy ghost)  (not completed) 

Sort of character study of Goro that takes place during p5. A redemption arc for Goro which also includes him having a palace. Wonderfully written and really looks into Goro’s character. 

Customer Connections by Chummy/Hator (not completed) 

Starbucks au full of memes and a SHIT TON of overworked employees. I LOVE Goro in this fic, he’s a mood. Highly recommend this one especially, if your an overworked gremlin like Goro.

The PTs throw an incredibly last minute birthday party for Akira. Goro is not amused by their shenanigans (neither is Akira). Funny, cute fic where Goro and Akira get their revenge on their stupid friends by having their own party.

If you like pain then this fic is for you. I struggled to like this one at first but I’m so glad I finished it. Alternate au where Akira goes to his friend Ann’s wedding in Venice where he runs into his ex Goro Akechi. The scenery is beautiful and the characters are beautiful. Its just beautiful.

* i actually feel pretty chill about it. yay for being spoiled. also like.... if you ignore the ridiculous stuff there’s actually a lot to have fun with in this one. i don’t know how i’ll feel about it once i’ve processed it more. i just know i had fun while watching it, which i know isn’t true for everybody. i totally understand the negativity - it all makes sense to me. i’m just glad i sort of.... FORCED myself to have enough distance to just go in like ‘i’M PrepArED fOr wHAtEveR’

*i did like all the jumping around between locations in the first half and how ben would show up everywhere rey was. what a ‘you’re everywhere i go’ pairing. /chef’s kiss/. also having the different locations gives a sense of spaciousness (even if it’s all happening over a short period of time) which i missed in tlj.

*one of the things that gave me the most joy as the hux thing ??? X’’’D it was EXACTLY like that ‘the farce awakens’ ep where hux LITERALLY JOINS THE RESISTANCE cuz he can’t stand kylo. like what kind of fanfic...... how do the hux fans out there feel? (i really love the hux fans they’re a great bunch XD). shame that he was gone right after though.

* i actually enjoyed the trio dynamic? like i get the desire to move away from ‘trio mentality’ but the rey/poe tension with finn as mediator was fun. and finn and poe as joint generals? adorable. shame that the whole finn/poe thing got a bit clouded by.... stormpilot baiting and rose erasure and all the things... Also i’m not anti any character - i like zorii - but.... let poe stay a gay icon? i guess he can still be a queer icon it’s all good i’m down for whatever.

*speaking of finn.... loved seeing more of his humour back. didn’t love that there was no unpacking of how he feels taking out stormtroopers. but loved the found family of jannah and the other ex-stormtroopers. i feel like that gave SOME resolution/depth to finn’s origins. and finn being a non force user but seemingly super attuned to the force and its ways? i can roll with that.

*more speaking of finn... i wonder what they were doing with the ‘thing he wants to tell rey that he never gets to tell rey’. seems like an obvious ‘i love you’ thing. but at the same time we got reylo (/basks in that for a second/). it feels to me like throwing a bone to the finnrey people? like they didn’t get it in this movie but it could be a thing in the future? regaurdless, i did like how finn and rey were very connected and back to that loving friendship they had in tfa. we never quite got the ‘you have a force bond with the supreme leader?!!’ conversation but we got.... SOME conversation.

* speaking of the supreme leader... kinda love that we got renperor AND ben solo TM. i prefer to view ben more holistically (he is both ‘ben’ and ‘kylo’) but i get that making them two distinct identities was a helpful shortcut of sorts. he could ‘kill’ kylo and switch to being ben in a single scene. i always prefer Soft Boi Ben but if we were gonna get Bad Boy Kylo i’m glad they established it right out the gate. it was like ok, this is what to expect; this is where we’re at with this character. 

*ben with his costume change at the end....... omg. gave me BIG smuggler!Ben vibes. urgh, give me all the AUs. ben deserves more.

*the amount of swagger when he was fighting the KOR

*idk i feel like i’m not even touching on the big stuff. this was just a ‘get all my side thoughts out of my system’ post.

*adam’s smile after the kiss though......... ...  /the most beautiful thing in this world/

*truly iconic that people were right about the strategic, covert introduction of force healing via baby yoda like one month before tros.

*oh yeah it was wILD that so much of the imagery from the trailers/tv spots etc was in like the first five mintues of the movie ??? i totally assumed the ‘i have been every voice you’ve ever heard inside your head’ moment would be climactic rather than right up front

*oh yeah the vader mask.... that didn’t really mean anything in the end then did it?

* re: ben’s death. maybe it’s because i was braced for it but in some ways it’s the best way he could have gone. he was definitely happy and reunited with the light - both through love of rey and of his family. hIGHKey could have done with ben’s force ghost also appearing at the end? the only good thing about not seeing it is.... LF deciding to retcon his death ? ??XD obs they’re not gonna but if you want a crackpot silver lining there it is.

*what exactly does rey’s future look like, may i ask?

* oh yeah, Passing The Saber Through The Force. maybe my favourite moment. the force bond as a bare concept is so romantic to me i would watch a whole trilogy just exploring the magic system of that - it’s limitations and possibilities. 

* i do like that jj developed the visual style of the bond. we got to see them occupying the same space, the way each of them would be seeing the other (’can you see my surroundings, i can’t see yours, just you’)

*i miss that rian johnson sound editing on the bond though..... god, the iNTIMACY of the tlj bond scenes....

*’i DID want to take your hand’

*also just the word choice of ‘take your hand’/ ‘i offered you my hand’. it’s extremely marriage.

*there was also a moment in the hanger when ben was like ‘we’re one’ basically? he was saying it in the context of rey’s lineage but still...............the validation. one soul. 

*palps was like ‘you live and die together’ which made me REALLY think of skytalkers podcast. obviously assumed they would both have to LIVE together but.... /deep sigh/

* OH YEAH! reverse anidala was such a thing! why did it have to be SO reverse anidala though? X’D instead of taking her life, he gives her his own. (i know it’s not clear anakin totally killed padme etc etc but ya feel me)

* ok i hate that ben died obvs obvs but, taking that for what it is, it was very romeo and juliet. i kinda love just the imagery of it. like... the physical blocking/choreography of adam getting daisy into his arms, holding her, then he falls and it’s her holding him. the way she catches his neck. really reminded me of the smoothness of the bridal carry. and rey’s flexed foot in that moment of shock. love the body language. back to that kind of ‘’staccato’’ rey of tfa days.

Some wouldn’t think ice skating is a particularly interesting sport or is a little feminine, and some even think it’s not a sport at all. What Yuri On Ice does so well is it proves that not only can ice skating be for anyone, it can also be really interesting. Watching this show has taught me so much about the sport, it really digs deep into both the intricacy of the routines, how well thought out they are and they’re even animated in their entirety, all of them, also keeping you on the edge of your seat with each one, and the mechanics of what jumps are and exactly how difficult they are to execute, etc. Bearing in mind that a majority of the characters have been skating since they were small or for an inordinate amount of time.

Not only that, but this show also teaches that experience and skill are two completely different things entirely and that both matter equally. One of the characters is 15 and the others are in their 20s, and they’re all in the same league!

2) The Animation

This show in particular was made by Mappa, and some may say the animation was a little shoddy but personally I think it was wonderful. The animation is smooth and detailed at just the right moments, and the skating in particular is done so well, especially as the series progresses. The art style is also really lovely and soft and definitely goes with the feel of the show, and when it comes to the funny parts of it, it’s really fitting there too and not at all disturbing, actually I think it looks adorable. X’D

3) The Gay

They’re not exactly at each others’ throats. They actually cheer each other on, too. 

And when it comes to romantic relationships, this anime in particular isn’t exactly subtle about it. Not only does it openly acknowledge the lgbt+ community and hints more at a gay couple than most anime have ever done but it also digs deep into the fundamentals of relationships. Supporting each other, sacrifices, mistakes and how they learn from them, etc. Even the romantic side of it is pretty on point. Yeah, it’s mostly about the skating, but there is a lovely balance between that and the building of the characters.♥

And pertaining to the fan-service part of the show, it’s done in moderation and with reactions from the other characters that don’t make it at all awkward to watch. The development of the characters and the feels are real.♥

Can I just say this anime is also really funny? It knows when to be funny and when to be serious and honestly I think that’s great. ‘Nuff said. :’D

6) Dreams and Personal Dilemmas

This show personifies that dreams can be realised, and the dreams of others are supported, too. I can’t say much about this without spoiling it, but every characters’ idea of success is different. They all have their personal goals, everyone has a great amount of character development and they all have realistic problems and moments of weakness. Yuuri in particular has a pretty normal family and personal problems like lack of self-confidence, sad memories which he will eventually grow to accept and he even gains weight easily, even though he’s a figure skater, something that usually isn’t touched upon much in anime, mainly because of ideals and all that.

All the skaters are from different countries, too. I personally feel like it’s great when interracial relationships and characters are not only introduced, but developed in their own special way. Personally I love all the characters so I feel like they all turn lovable throughout the series but everybody has their own little arc, and honestly when I think about this kind of thing I think of JJ, and I really like JJ now despite his initial personality. You’ll see why if you ever go into watching it all.

7) Yuuri.

Okay but Yuuri is one of the most socially awkward and wonderful protags ever. :’D He knows what his flaws are but he embraces them and tries so hard to make himself better. Meeting Victor makes him a lot more confident in himself, he has a great personal story of growth, which is steady and strengthens his character over time. He makes mistakes just like any other person can and he learns from them. That and he’s just generally lovable. c’:
