“Kip, we have to leave now or we’re going to be late!”

Cassidy checked his phone clock again, sighing a little at the footsteps coming from upstairs. He usually wasn’t this stressed out about having to be in places in time or anything, especially when it came to just going to a gathering with friends and co-workers, but something about today felt special. Maybe it was the special occasion of it being a work related holiday party, something Cassidy usually avoided at all costs, just saying he was busy or he just didn’t show up without an explanation because he just didn’t care that much.

So maybe it was because this year was the first time in a long time he was going to participate in something like this… Or more likely, it was because this was the first year he was doing something like this with Kip. Together. As a couple. In front of everyone else.

Their relationship wasn’t a secret or anything, but the holidays felt like it was putting a new kind of twist in it somehow. Getting festive, decorating the house, getting gifts, talking about visiting family and seeing relatives… It was slowly bleeding over to their work life as well, Kip regularly asking him if they were giving gifts to others this year or showing up to holiday parties together.

Like tonight.

Finally the steps approaching him down the stairs snapped Cassidy out of his thoughts, eyes shooting up the stairs towards the sound. A little smile tucked at the corner of his lips as he watched Kip brush his hands through his hair, tying up the high half bun he had gotten accustomed to in the recent weeks, as he made his way down the stairs.

Cassidy chuckled at him a little bit, Kip tilting his head curiously before leaning closer to peck a little kiss on his lips as he reached the bottom of the stairs.

“What?”

“I thought I told you we were supposed to wear ugly Christmas sweaters.”

Kip raised a brow, looking down at himself, clearly confused as he brushed his now free hands over the Star Wars themed sweater he was wearing. As he looked back up after a while, Cassidy was clearly smiling at him, leaning closer to wrap his arms around Kip’s neck, twirling a free coil of his silver hair around his finger.

“But it’s the right kind of sweater, right?”

Cassidy chuckled softly, leaning in for a quick, sweet kiss.

“It is,” he finally stated, watching a quick look of relief washing over Kip’s face. “It’s just a shame you make everything look so damn good I don’t know if that’s going to count exactly.”

Kip’s expression finally softened as he registered the words in his mind, a quiet chuckle leaving his lips as well before Cassidy leaned in for another kiss. He pulled away with a little smile, giving Kip one more glance over before he finally nodded his head.

“You looking so good is the perfect excuse to be a little late tonight though.”

AU idea: What if Ai and Hikaru stayed as a teenage couple; and later met Taiki, would Hikaru take responsibility for his son? And would Ai be a good "step-mom"?

hmmm in an au where they stayed together and everything went well bc true love conquers all something something, i'm sure they'll be very much happy to take in taiki! we've already seen how much ai was so concerned of hikaru's burdens hence the 15 yr lie, but in an au where they take the most positive of all directions, i feel like that would also make ai push hikaru to taking in taiki, or at least ease the burden and help him free from the tortures (that is everything airi has done). since ai knows what it’s like to be parentless and is now a mom herself, she’ll surely have a soft spot for taiki too!!

whether taiki actually goes to them is a different thing though. i feel like without aqua's revenge, they wouldn't really find taiki sooner. so unless hikaru himself says something... if the same thing happens in taiki's tl like the double suicide plus getting adopted by kindaichi, i feel like he'll stay with kindaichi still. like he stays there but he's also part of the star eyes fam now. ai would be cool with that but at the same time she's like the person who will attempt the most to always get taiki to join them!! <3

the thing is asta is very nice so he could never ignore someone knocking BUT he is efficient and will make sure that i'm cared for so since he knows my pleasure system like a rube goldberg machine he might as well have built himself, he makes sure he speeds up the process of me getting off, and yes, by God, I do, and while i'm getting personally acquainted to God (orgasming like i'm a bot with that one sole preprogrammed purpose) he's running to the door, lower half wrapped in a blanket and answering the stranger's question and hoping they don't notice the tent in his pants, and ofc he can get them the sugar in record time because ofc he's a good neighbor and always there to help! and then once they leave and poor, kind sister lily off in her convent somewhere has seen my soul float in purgatory suddenly, miles away from where my absolutely wrecked body should be, and started to intercede from my behalf, he's like okay i'm back let's go for another round.

7. How do you choose which POV to write from?

in terms of which character's POV to write from...this is so instinctive that I don't think I've ever really debated whose POV a fic should be from, at least not for anything I actually finished. it just comes baked in as part of the concept for the fic

in terms of type of POV, I am thoroughly wedded to limited-perspective third person at this point. tried to do a more omniscient thing a couple of times and it made me so uncomfortable. and I'll happily mess around with first person for original stuff, but that feels so wrong for fic somehow

generally I don't like to switch POVs partway through either; I'm often really interested in what's going on in the heads of the non-POV character(s) in the scene, but that's part of the fun of limited POV to me - the ways that comes across or doesn't within one person's v biased perspective

8. Do you prefer the beginning, middle, or end of a story?

middle feels so like the obvious answer to this that I immediately want to be contrary and say something else 😂 definitely not endings because those are so hard to get right - I'm always trying to balance feeling like I've resolved things enough to justify this being the end of the story, without implying I've totally fixed all of someone's deep-seated emotional issues in a 10k word oneshot

I have a lot of fun with beginnings honestly!! they're easy to overthink, but a lot of the time the "right" answer for me is just to chuck people in in medias res and push forward with confidence. plus you get to kind of set out your stall of stuff you're gonna (try to) resolve later.

So, first up. Sundowning! This has been my absolute baby since November and I’m really rooting for it to be the first long fic I’m able to complete. Here’s a snippet from a flashback scene:

It’s all very clinical and professional save for when his jumper gets tangled around his head and Johnny practically shakes him free of it. Suddenly there they are, laughing and naked under the shower spray together.

He tries to keep his eyes forward, never wandering as his own body feels like it’s being thoroughly inspected by how meticulously he’s being scrubbed. It’s…nice. It’s not as embarrassing as he expected—maybe because Johnny talks most of the time, and when he’s not jabbering, he’s singing under his breath. Maybe because they’re so comfortable around each other that it was never going to be awkward in the first place. The only thing even mildly uncomfortable about any of it is his own arms stretched awkwardly out in front of him, trying to keep the injuries away from the water.

It almost feels like a grand cosmic joke. Like the universe is going to pull the rug out from under him at any moment with a cackling “gotcha!” Because what did he do to deserve this? To deserve, not only a teammate, but a friend as caring and bloody reverent as Soap. Ghost hasn’t been this relaxed around anyone since—well. Ever. He can’t be cashing in on good karma because he’s not a good fucking person. Johnny’s not either.

So what’s the catch?

Ghost never feels quite as inadequate as he does amidst these sorts of conversations. It’s fucking ridiculous. It shouldn’t matter how many cocks have(n’t) been inside him—he’s one of the best operators in the force, he’s overcome multiple iterations of Hell on Earth and he still has a beating heart despite it all.

But he is a bloody thirty-four year old virgin. And by societal standards, that is embarrassing. It’s not something that should be but, fucking hell, he can’t imagine ever admiting something like that to people like these. It would be the equivalent of tossing himself to the wolves. The final nail in his coffin of social suicide.

“What about you then, Ghost?” a newer recruit has the nerve to ask. The place goes dead silent. Ridiculous.

4. How easy is it to earn their trust?

this is an interesting one because like... on a basic surface level the answer looks like 'very easy': oak started relying heavily on the tadpole gang right from the start, and he would certainly have said that he trusts them (and meant it!). but he was hiding this massive part of himself and presenting them with a specifically curated version of himself instead, and he took it for granted it that they would turn on him if they knew the truth. and then on the other hand, as he quickly took on a leadership role and gained their trust, he came to feel that he was in the comfortable position of knowing them better and having more leverage over them than they did for him, of seeing their struggles and receiving their confidences while he kept his greatest insecurities and vulnerabilities secret. I'm laughing as I type this out because I'd never quite thought to put it this way, but, there's a large extent to which oak conflates 'being trustworthy' with 'trusting others' when it comes to his relationships; like, if he is loyal and caring and protective of them and their secrets then that is essentially the same thing as trusting them and being vulnerable with his own secrets, right? (it is not, oh my god oak.)

it was only in early act 3 that all the ugliest, messiest parts of him were forced out into the open (despite his extreme reluctance and avoidance) and he had to reckon with the companions actually knowing those things about him. that's when he finally had to be open and honest and vulnerable with them in a way that he hadn't before, and learn a different kind of trust entirely. so the tl;dr is that he thinks that he trusts people pretty easily, but he absolutely does not.

5. How easy is it to earn their mistrust?

also 'it's complicated depending on context and what kind of trust', but... he tends to approach strangers with a lot of curiosity about their intentions and motivations, and he would see it more as learning what those are and whether they align with what he wants or not. It's actually fairly hard to earn a general mistrust from him as opposed to a more situationally specific assessment of whether someone is likely to work with him or against him.

when it comes to people he has a personal relationship with... he gets very deeply attached to the people he loves and he's terrified of losing them, and he will forgive almost anything they do. he's also terrible at recognizing/admitting when someone has actually hurt him--which certainly causes problems in his interpersonal relationships, but it does make it harder to earn his mistrust when he'll gladly minimize things both for the sake of his self image as someone too strong and confident to get hurt, and also because he doesn't want to lose his sense of closeness and security in the relationship.

9. Do they swear? Do they remember their first swear word?

oak doesn't remember his first anything, but he probably had a new 'first' swear word before he even left the crashing nautiloid.

A) Why are you excited about this character?

so many reasons. when I sat down to make my character for my first bg3 playthrough, my thought process was fully just 'what am I going to find the absolute most fun to play'. I knew I wanted to romance astarion, I knew I wanted a character with a high charisma score who would try talking their way out of every situation because I always love that, I knew that I was going to care about gaining companion approval and therefore I should make a character who would also care and diegetically court the approval of his new friends. I knew I wanted to play as durge because I loved both the idea of a character with constant intrusive violent desires, and the idea of a creating a character who had no memories of his past yet was hugely recognizably shaped by that past. what do you get if you take all these traits of an arrogant cult leader who thinks he's divinely superior to others and is entitled to their lives, but also never had the choice to be anything different, and you place him in this entirely new situation with no memory of his past? how do the same personality traits manifest differently in a new context with new people? how differently would he see himself without his rigid self image of what he is and must be as bhaal's chosen? and with a new oath to a different god giving him an entirely different set of instructions he's expected to follow? it was incredibly fun for me to explore that, how the same personality traits can lead to good, bad, and just plain different behaviour with an entirely new start in the world.

G) What trait of theirs bothers you the most?

I don't know if there's any trait that I would say bothers me, but, one thing that I find challenging and occasionally frustrating is that oak is bad at putting his emotions and inner experience into words. he's not a very introspective person, and he really struggles to articulate that kind of thing, even to himself. but that is also often a fun challenge for me to navigate as a writer!

J) Did you have to manipulate or exclude canon factors to allow them to create their character?

absolutely. I knew the broad strokes of the durge storyline before I played the game but not the details, so some of the stuff I came up with for his personality and backstory didn't quite fit with the in game lore, and in some cases I liked my version better and stuck to it. perhaps my most controversial durge decision was to give him a mother (rather than him being crafted directly from bhaal's dead flesh like you learn in some tie in media), and even to make that mother still be alive (unlike the murdered adoptive family you can see in a memory if you use a heal spell on durge, which I never did). I've also come up with a lot of my own ideas about the cult of bhaal that aren't necessarily directly contradicted by the canon but aren't in line with it either, because I needed oak's backstory to make emotional sense to me and that meant fleshing out the cartoon evil cult in various ways and just figuring out a version of it that made sense to me.

that said, I also really enjoyed working within the framework and limitations of the canon, including when it gave me interesting problems to solve (like 'how did the son of bhaal and high priest of their cult possibly become a paladin of silvanus')

By far, it's sitting there on the rooftop of the clinic at a complete loss. All he has is the cold pistol in his hand. Gone is any ounce of hope he grasped onto. He's tired--so fucking tired. Tired of dying... and now, living is exhausting, too.

There's no good way out of this.

And he sits there for far too long contemplating. How much more does he want to fight that which is, frankly, unwinnable? How much should the man he loves continue to suffer because he has been too stubborn to let go?

How much does Vikt really want to live?

(Obviously, Vikt does work his way out of this sinking hole of a headspace--albeit his choice to storm Arasaka Tower all on his own isn't a much better one. But he at least makes himself try to survive. Both for himself and for Kerry--and in part, for Johnny, to free the engram from the prison he's stuck in. It all pushes Vikt to fight one last time.)

It's a story about Éomer and his canon wife, Lothíriel of Dol Amroth, getting together. I think it'll be a pretty lighthearted romantic story set in Rohan, but with some cultural misunderstandings and hijinks. The seed of this one is that Lothíriel, being from a city where horses are only allowed to pull carts of goods into the city, never learned how to ride. This obviously is a bit of an issue for the Rohirrim. I haven't really read any fics featuring these two, so this might be a common trope, but if so, I hope I'll tackle it differently than folks have before.

This is mostly a story about learning to love someone when you are on different pages at the start. It's partially outlined, and I might get to it as a palette cleanser during some of the heavier parts of my main longfic.

14: Do you miss someone?

kind of difficult to answer, though, since i'm not really good with emotions, especially my own. but sometimes i think of my late dad once in a while and miss old friendships that have fallen away a bit.

34: Who/what was your last dream about?

i can't really remember much, actually. but the most recent dream i can recall is about some random actress i don't even know, showing up as a damsel in distress for me to rescue.

i don't know why, maybe it's my subconscious wanting to be helpful and useful, but every single time i dream of someone, especially those i love (including my favorite), i always dream of helping them with something or rescuing them from some apocalyptic event.

i even dreamt of trying to help someone dodge attacks on a large ancient wooden ship while flying demons screamed "beware of seraphim" out of nowhere. i woke up, googled it, and realized that's the name of celestial beings in religion. and i'm like… was that a calling??? wait… who was i helping again? and why am i always the rescuer???

51: Favourite food?

as a thai person, i pretty much eat everything, so it's hard to narrow down my favorite foods. but when it comes to cuisines, i can say i enjoy thai, chinese, japanese, korean, indian, mexican, greek, turkish, italian, french, even american fast food. it seems i enjoy a bit of everything! haha.

in thai culture, we don't like to say that something isn't tasty when we try it and don't enjoy it. instead, we say maybe we just don't get it or perhaps don't really know how to eat it.
