I love your thoughtful SoC meta! I would love to know your thoughts on Kaz and Jesperâs relationship. Specifically, I adore Kaz but one thing in particular that always seemed so dark to me was that he enabled Jesperâs gambling addiction even though he obviously does care about him. Kaz is obviously willing to do a lot of fucked up things in service of his goals, but this one in particular, toward his own brother figure, I find sad. Itâs kind of addressed during their fight at the end of CK but still feels a little unfinished.
I love Kaz and Jesper's relationship. There's sooooo much to dig into there (way too much for a single meta); it's super juicy and complicated, and one of the best complexities of it is that they often enable and feed off of each other's trauma. The pre-canon status quo is a situation where Kaz and Jesper are, in many ways, using and abusing each other as a way of avoiding dealing with their own trauma. It's a fascinating push-and-pull dynamic because neither of them are pushovers and yet neither one is particularly interested in facing their Issues⢠head-on, and they both seemingly recognize that in each other and give each other an uncharacteristic amount of grace in helping the other avoid dealing with it.
In Kaz's case, that most often looks like enabling Jesper's gambling addiction and then repeatedly bailing him out of trouble under the justification of "he's loyal and competent, it would be wasteful to let the other gangs kill him." In Jesper's case, this looks like ignoring Kaz's countless and extremely obvious issues in favor of playing the loyal second. Basically, it's not just Kaz enabling Jesper's gambling addiction; it's also Jesper enabling Kaz's unhinged ruthlessness with little pushback other than a few snarky comments.
They also project a lot of their own issues onto each other! Kaz pushes Jesper away in part because he's projecting the grief and blame he feels over Jordie's death onto Jesper, but Jesper is using Kaz's ruthless pragmatism to escape the crippling disappointment of returning home to face his father's judgement for being a college drop-out, gambling addict, and gang member. And Kaz withholds praise and verbal declarations of trust from Jesper because he hates acknowledging that he cares about people, but Jesper uses Kaz's emotional detachment as a crutch to avoid dealing with his own commitment issues by pining after a boy he knows will never reciprocate his advances. This status quo is, of course, insanely unhealthy for both boys long-term, but where would we be if any of the Crows actually dealt with their issues in a healthy way?
That dynamic, imo, is also only possible because Kaz and Jesper have known each other for longer than anyone else in the main crew; Kaz may have let Inej in further, but he let Jesper in first. As far as we know, Jesper is the first person Kaz genuinely lets past his mile-high walls since Jordie died...but he very deliberately holds him at arms' length in a way that he does not with Inej (something that Jesper notices and is jealous about!). Being "the first" in this case unfortunately comes with a lot of baggage, and Kaz and Jesper would both lowkey rather die than talk about how much they care what the other thinks of them.
Kaz clearly didn't recruit Jesper looking for a friend or someone who reminded him of his dead older brother; he recruited him because he saw someone with a useful skillset who he preferred to be at his side rather than in a rival gang or dead in the canals. It's to Jesper's credit that he managed to break through those walls anyway, but there's only so much he can do in the face of Kaz's armor. And like Inej, Kaz's closed-off personality and actions hurt Jesper repeatedly. But he stays anyway, because he (like Inej) sees the boy underneath the mask that Kaz wears and cares a little too much to let him go:
âHe wouldnâtââ Jesper stopped short, and then he laughed. âOf course he would.â Jesper flexed his knuckles, concentrated on the lines of his palms. âKaz isâŚI donât know, heâs like nobody else Iâve ever known. He surprises me.â âYes. Like a hive of bees in your dresser drawer.â Jesper barked a laugh. âJust like that.â âSo what are we doing here?â Jesper turned back to the sea, feeling his cheeks heat. âHoping for honey, I guess. And praying not to get stung.â Inej bumped her shoulder against his. âThen at least weâre both the same kind of stupid.â âI donât know what your excuse is, Wraith. Iâm the one who can never walk away from a bad hand.â She looped her arm in his. âThat makes you a rotten gambler, Jesper. But an excellent friend.â âYouâre too good for him, you know.â âI know. So are you." -Ch. 17, Six of Crows
Kaz is unused to verbalizing the trust he places in others and actively in denial about how much he cares about them until Crooked Kingdom; he spends his time deliberately being cruel and pushing people away even as he proves over and over again that he doesn't actually want them to leave him. This casual assholery hits those closest to him (Inej and Jesper) the hardest because they are clearly trusted with his life but not with his heart, and that hurts them both.
For Inej, resolving that behavior looks like giving him an ultimatum ("I will have you without armor or I will not have you at all") and telling herself to walk away unless he meets her challenge. For Jesper? That looks like duking it out on top of the Geldrenner when they're both at rock bottom, because of course that's the only way either one of those boys is ever going to verbalize the tension that underlies their relationship. There's just a lot of baggage and mutual toxicity and unsaid words that neither of them are very interested in dealing with until everything comes to a head during the Clocktower fight.
I think we also forget that the Kaz-Jesper dynamic we see in the majority of the duology is not their normal dynamic: it's how they interact when Kaz is mad at Jesper. And a mad Kaz is, within the scope of canon, a pretty cruel Kaz, which is something that I think a good portion of the fandom likes to handwave away in favor of pointing towards Kaz's active attempts to be better in the back half of the duology.
Ultimately we only see the "normal" Kaz-Jesper dynamic for the first 12 or so chapters of Six of Crows (when the Dock Fight/Eyeball Incident happens) and the last few chapters of Crooked Kingdom. Those chapters are a really interesting look into what that relationship looks like when they're on good terms. It's clear that they're good friends, trust each other a hell of a lot, and joke around with each other quite a bit (the "saves ammo" joke in the parley chapter, their interactions during the Hellgate breakout, the "man with a knife!" "man with a gun!" exchange immediately after Kaz throws Oomen overboard, etc), but we also see the stress points: Jesper getting mad at Kaz for not telling him about Big Bolliger's betrayal, Kaz sending Wylan with Jesper during the prep chapters to keep an eye on him, and Jesper's bee and honey conversation with Inej on the Ferolind, for example.
These stress points are what fracture and crack in the aftermath of Jesper accidentally alerting the other gangs that they were headed out on the Ice Court Job and nearly causing Inej's death, and further buckle under the stress and pressure that Kaz and Jesper deal with during the following month and a half: the Ice Court job, Van Eck kidnapping Inej on Vellgeluk, Colm showing up in Ketterdam, and the Sugar Silo/Auction scheme.
In this way, I think Kaz enabling Jesper's gambling addiction is less about Kaz being actively cruel towards someone he sees the ghost of his brother in and punishing Jesper for the sins he percieves Jordie to have made (which is also true, and a meta for a different time!) and more about the weird balance of toxic mutual leniency Kaz and Jesper have allowed the other to provide for them for over two years...and how that leniency breaks down once it's not just Kaz's life or time on the line when Jesper fucks up.
Put more succinctly: for a long time, Kaz and Jesper existed in a toxic balance of enabling each others' worst impulses and behaviors, which was only able to be verbally addressed when they were both at rock bottom, desperate, and seemingly had very little left to lose. This conflict is somewhat addressed and resolved in the conversation where Kaz refuses to give Jesper the last of the parem and offers up a tiny bit of information about Jordieâshowcasing his own growth and how he's finally trying to break the cycle by refusing to enable Jesper's self-destructive tendenciesâbut that level of tension is unable to be properly resolved in one single blowout argument. And I think it's deliberately left a bit unfinished because neither of them are really in a place where they're ready to address everything they've left unsaid for so long, even in the epilogue chapters.
However, we do see the beginnings of that reconcilitaion (Kaz asking Inej to tell Jesper that he's "missed around the Slat") and the story ends on a hopeful note regarding Kaz's commitment to removing his armor, which implies a lot about the resolution of that dangling thread. And of course, we know that by Rule of Wolves they're back to being thick as thieves and fucking around as usual, so clearly they hashed it out at some point in the in-between (and personally? I don't think it took either of them very long after the CK epilogue chapters to do that hashing out).
tl;dr: I love it when two traumatized and emotionally constipated teenage boys use each other to avoid facing their own personal problems and then get into a fistfight to avoid talking about how much they care about each other. Top-tier dynamic. Chef's kiss. I could talk about them for hours.

Some night, he flew above the twinkling lights of BlĂźdhavenâs buildings, wind rushing through his hair and the feeling of weightlessness pushing at the curve of his back.
There were a multitude of things that Dick Grayson appreciated, loved, Bruce for. One of those things would always be that his adopted dad allowed him to fly once more, even after his parentsâ wings were cut.
In the air, he was home.
In the air, Dick Grayson felt like he was living up to, flying alongside, the Flying Graysons. Every flip, every trick he used to go faster, to fight better, felt like his parents were there guiding his every move.
Time healed his hurt, but still, the hole in his heart remained.
So when one of his best friends, a ghost vigilante by the name Phantom, asked him if he wanted to see his parents, he froze like a deer in bright white headlights.
âWhatâŚ?â
Phantom did a flip in midair. âWanna see your parents? Theyâve been asking if they could talk to you.â
âMy parents⌠are ghosts?â That was the least pressing question he had right now, but it was all his mouth could speak.
âKind of. Itâs complicated,â Phantom side-eyed him. âIt would require going into the zone.â
And just like that, Dick understood. After the Amity Park came onto the map and the Justice League fixed the human and alien and meta rights violations that were happening right under their nose, Phantom had permanently closed all access to the Zone. Save, of course, for himself and a few magic users, who all refused to anger the King of the Dead.
âThe only way youâre getting to my people now, is through me. Should anyone try to get into the zone, without my permission⌠I will make sure that you and your familyâs afterlives will pay the appropriate price.â
No-one wanted to test his threat. The afterlife is something few fucked with and came back whole.
The Phantom theyâd seen on the news then was incredibly different than the one in front of him now. Dick knows, understands now, that it was because Phantom trusted him. After years of being denied help, years of struggling all by himself to keep reality from collapsing while avoiding getting experimented on by humans understandably closed his heart.
âYouâd take me into the Zone?â Dick didnât know what he was feeling. Hope, fear, trust, touched, happiness, something.
A lot of things.
Danny shrugged. âYeah. I trust you,â he said as he glanced back at Dick-at Nightwing. âOnly you, though. No one else.â
The question that remained was whether Dick trusted Phantom too. And considering the fact that the ghost king ironically saved his ass from being killed a couple of times meant, âYeah. I- Iâd love to.â
Danny smiled, all pointed teeth and solemn trust. âOkay. Letâs go.â
âNow?!â Dick stood up anyways, his heart in his throat. Danny held out a gloved hand.
âYeah, now. Havenât you heard that death waits for no one?â At Dickâs concerned look, Danny added, âDonât worry. You wonât actually die. Youâll come back whole and alive, I promise.â
âOh, okay. Letâs go, then!â
ââ
Clark Kent threw himself out of the window, Superman suit already on.
Seonds later, he was hovering in front of Bruceâs shadowy form on top of a gargoyle.
âClark,â Batman greeted in his gravelly voice, irritated. âWhat.â
âBatman, Nightwingâs heartbeat- it disappeared!â
Bruceâs heartbeat stuttered.

ever in your favor by @iron--spider
Peter startles awake when someone shakes him.Â
âSorry, honey,â May says. Peter blinks a couple times and she comes into focus, her hair pulled back from her face. Sheâs trying not to look a certain way, but he can see it in her eyes anyway. She clears her throat, keeps talking. âBut itâsâŚâ She glances away, wets her lips. âYou gotta get ready.â
He remembers what day it is, and his heart beats like a drum at someoneâs execution. But he tries to put on a mask, make it all seem normal. Itâs everything but, despite the fact that heâs been dealing with reaping day since he was born, between himself, Ben and May. That fear that one of them could be taken away. Sent to surefire slaughter. But now Ben is gone, taken despite never having his name drawn from a bowl, and Mayâs finally safe. Now Peterâs name is in there alone. The last Parker sitting on the chopping block. He doesnât know how to be. He doesnât know what normal is, when the Hunger Games are looming on the horizon.

Title Font: PP Hatton, Rustic Printed
Body Fonts: Californian FB, Moonglade, Bebas Neue, War Is Over, Architects Daughter
More on the process below the cut!
I have...SO much to say about this project! This fic was one that I've wanted to do ever since I started fanbinding, and it was one I saved until my technical skills caught up with my vision for the book. @iron--spider is my favorite author and a wonderful friend, and I wanted to be able to do this masterwork justice!
Given that it's a Hunger Games AU, I wanted to touch on the Hunger Games aesthetic while still being unique. I started with the cover; I knew I wanted red and yellow, something bold and evocative of the Iron Man, Spiderman vibe. It also doubles as an implication of the blood spilt during the games, especially in volume II - when Peter actually enters the games. I chose the spider for the cover, and painted it on the cover paper with inky black paint; I cut a stencil, and while the images did have some drippy areas, I don't mind it so much. It's meant to look like graffiti, Peter's symbol that the people of the Districts scrawl everywhere they can get away with it.
In turn, I also experimented with a paint pen on this one of the titling, done on the spine piece, which is black Better Than Goat leather! Again, I went in with a stencil, and opted for blockier letters, like something you might see spray painted onto a wall.
The endpapers are custom; I messed around with a weird cityscape I found and came out with the image you see above. The setting for the games is a futuristic city, much like MCU NYC would be, complete with an Avengers Stane tower.
And then of course, there's the typeset itself! The Hunger Games books don't have particularly striking typesets, but I did go for the dystopian vibe with the Rustic Printed font on the chapter numbers, and Moonglade for the chapter titles, giving it a very industrial feel.
It was also a pleasure to include the art that @angel-gidget did for the fic as well! Her book covers are so gorgeous and I love her manip style so much <3 I also included the short drabble @iron--spider did on her Tumblr, a post-story snack-sized fic, as well as a meta question she answered via her asks that I thought was particularly interesting. The District guide at the back, including what Districts each character belongs to and whether or not they are deceased was interesting to put together, and I hope I didn't make any mistakes!
Last, but certainly not least, this book was the first one I was able to do really nice headbands on. Shoutout to @morningstarbindery who helped me learn how! They look phenomenal and I never would have figured it out on my own <3
I'm excited for everyone to see these books! One day I'll have all your works on my shelf ;)

N7 Day 5- Turians
So I was thinking about this post and getting emotional about Garrus in ME2 again, and thought why not turn my thoughts into a meta for day 5 lol
Just. . . he is so young and idealistic in ME1, and when Shepard finds him again in 2, he is so, so tired and beaten. Omega has all but crushed that passion, fire, and belief with his perceived failure as Archangel. In the first conversation in the battery, where he says, âI gave them hope,â you hear the remnants of that idealism, quickly followed by, ". . . and now they're dead. Shows what I know." He sounds devastated and defeated.
Some people like to bring up that he ânever questions Shepardâ as superficial proof that heâs just a yes man or a bad leader, which is patently untrue. In ME1, he repeatedly asks Shepard about her reasoning, her motives, and her plan for catching Saren. He doesnât argue or undermine her, because sheâs his commanding officer. Itâs about respect. Heâs extremely intelligent and passionate. He looks up to Shepard and wants to learn from her.
But if you go back to the conversation in the batteryâhe says, âI canât exactly doubt your judgment. Not after I got my own squad killed.â At the beginning of ME2, his confidence is shattered. He trusts Shepard, of course; he knows she wouldn't work for Cerberus without a damn good reason, but there's more to it than that. He doesn't feel like he's good enough to question her. What if he's wrong again? He's not blindly supporting her; he's leaning on one of the only people in the galaxy he knows he can trust at a very vulnerable point in his life.
Following Sidonisâ betrayal, losing his entire team; he fully realizes the cost of leadership and trusting the wrong person. In turian culture, after all, itâs not the one who makes the âmistakeâ who bears the blameâitâs their leader. Garrus sees himself as solely accountable for the deaths of his friends--people who trusted him. In the email Nalah Butler sends Shepard, she tells her that Garrus took every shot fired at his team as a personal failure. She goes on to say that her husband was very proud of the work he did with Garrus, and asks Shepard to help him stop blaming himself.
When he talks about not "being able" to doubt Shepard, he is coming from a place of grief and survivor's guilt. He acknowledges that he didn't know as much as he thought; he's deferring to her for guidance. He was so desperate to do good, however, the brutality of Omega and the larger galaxy thoroughly disillusioned him. Harkin asks him if the Terminus Systems "changed him," to which Garrus replies, "No, but Sidonis opened my eyes." Later in the car, on the way to meet Sidonis, when Shepard tells Garrus he's acting differently; he vehemently denies this stating, "Really? I've always hated injustice. . ." It sounds more like Garrus is trying to convince himself that he can do this. Shepard asks if he's sure, and he doesn't say he wants to; he says he has to.Â
Either way she chooses to act, Shepardâs assistance and support in dealing with Sidonis is key to Garrus regaining his confidence and growing into the excellent leader he always had the potential to be. So far, he has been allowing his anger, his grief, and his quest for vengeance consume him--to his detriment. Especially if Shepard encourages him to spare Sidonis--that is, by allowing Garrus to hear him out--she helps him not only get closure for Omega and the loss of his team, but also shows him a new perspective on justice and how it relates to the shades of gray, which we can see that he carries with him into ME3.Â
Following his loyalty mission, Garrusâ outlook changes dramatically. He has gotten closure for his team, one way or another. When Sidonis is spared and Garrus gets to hear the whole story: Sidonisâ betrayal haunts him too. It was easier for Garrus to imagine that his friend sold him out for pure selfishness and personal gain; being forced to confront the fact that it was not a simple answer--that Sidonis didnât want to do it--causes Garrus to reevaluate his worldview entirely.Â
He finally admits to Shepard what he had been struggling with the entire time: dealing with shades of gray. The way he explains his motives, i.e. his line about ânot seeing the point in staying quiet and polite when the galaxy is at stake,â showcases a more reflective side of Garrus and indicates his clarity. With his previous experience and renewed confidence Garrus is obviously a perfect choice to lead one or both of the fire teams; I personally like to choose him for both, as I feel it demonstrates Shepardâs absolute faith in his abilities from a meta perspective. Shepardâs steadfast support enables him to build on the leadership skills he already had, setting him up well for his role as an integral part of both the Reaper War and Shepardâs personal support system.
#mass effect#n7month#garrus vakarian#my writing#meta#welp i thought this might be a little shorter but it's over 800 words :/#anyway tldr i love garrus <3

So Iâm waiting for a dr appointment and the angst bug bit me so HERE WE GO!!!
Also thank you to @roxassoul for tell he that Wally had neglectful ďżźparents bc it made this all the more juicy. And sorry if Wally is ooc itâs been awhile since Iâve seen yj
âBUT GHOST AINâT REAL!â Ancients ďżźwhy did Danny think joining the kiddy justice league was a good idea. Heâd been here all of a month and already his lost count ďżźof how many times heâs had this argument with Wally. No matter how much evidence he provides itâs never enough for the sceptic.
âThan how do you explain my existence then?? I wasnât always a ghost. I was human, now Iâm not. Explain that!â He knew he was asking for trouble the more he humoured Wally with this conversation but he couldnât help it. Itâs a bit hard to not saying anything when the guy was literally saying that you shouldnât exist.
âEasy! You a meta like me!â The fact he didnât even hesitate to declare his incorrect conclusion was giving Danny a migraine. âI mean I was a normal human to until I recreated my uncles lab accident. Now look at me!â He proclaimed proudly while zooming over to the kitchen to grab a new bag of chips, leaving his empty one on the couch.
âThatâs not- waitâŚâ It took a second for Wallyâs words to set in. âDid- did you just- what did you just say.â His face started to fall as he desperately hoped he misheard the speedster.
âHmm.â Wally barely looked like he was paying attention as he walked back to the couch. âThat your a meta like me?â
âNo, no, the other thing.â He tried to keep his reaction at bay, failing to notice robinâs concern over his shaking hands and slightly elevated breathing.
âThat I recreated my uncles lab accident?â Wallyâs words were so causal. It was clear he had no idea of the land mine he just jumped on.
âYOU WHAT?!â The ground seemed to shake with Dannyâs voice. His eyes glowing as his shaking got worst. âWhy would you do that?! Do you know how dangerous that is?! How stupid that is?! You could have died!â
âI had it under control.â Wally waved the concerned away. No doubt this is not the first time heâs heard this lecture. âI knew what I was doing. Was it a risk? Yeah but I knew what I was doing. Plus,â he jumped onto the couch, laying back across the armrest. âyou know how rare it is to died it lab accidents? Itâs a lot less common than people think. At worst Iâd have been in hospital for a bit. No biggie.â
âYes, yes biggie. I donât care if you knew what you were doing! You, could, have, died!â Danny got up into Wallyâs space. Growling ďżźas he ďżźloomed over him.
âOh please. Name one person you know of in the past 10 years that died in lab accidents that didnât involve something like radiation!â Wally bit back, annoyance braking threw his carefree attitude.
âWell, I did for one.â
It seemed to take everyone a second to realise what Danny had said. In the heavy silence that followed, his words seemed to catch up with him as his face dropped. Wally watched in shock as phantoms face went from rage to a heart clenching mix of sadness and fear before he disappeared.
âOh god.â Megan broke the silence that overtook that room. Tears welling in her eyes
Wally didnât know what to say. While he was a sceptic and stubbornly held onto his beliefs that phantom wasnât actually a ghost, the face Danny made upon releasing his confession made him pause. ďżźWether or not Wally believed he was a restless spirit it was clear Danny did. It was clear that Wally brought forward one of the worst memories of Dannyâs and treated it like a joke. Like no big deal.
âGood going Wally!â Artemus ďżźproclaimed while jumping out of her seat. âYou really donât know when to shut your mouth do you!â
âHey! Itâs not like I knew that happen to him!â He bit back without even thinking.
âNo. You just happen to question his very existence every chance you get and push a topic that he was very clearly upset by.â Kaldur cut in between the two making Wally stop. Kaldur rarely got involved in arguments, much less picked a side. But you can bet whenever he does, heâs usually right.
Not that Wally was every gonna attempt to being wrong. âFine whatever.â He threw up his hands before running off. Leaving the others to figure out what to do about the cleary upset phantom.
And so Wally ran. And ran. His thoughts running faster than his feet as he just kept going. He didnât want to admit he was wrong. That perhaps Danny did die. That Wally himself could have died but if he was being honest with himself. He already knew all that. He just didnât want to admit it. Didnât want to face the reality of what could have been. A reality that Danny was livi-arr non-living prof of.
Eventually he knew he couldnât run forever and stopped at a cliff overlooking the ocean. The cold air and icy water telling him he was far north of where he was before. He didnât know what it was in that moment that made his mind clear. That made him accept what he thought was unacceptable. But he did. For the first time in years he truly faced reality. Staring into the void that blinked back.
He knew what he had to do and he knew where he would find the one he need to talk to.
Just as he predicted there phantom was. On the very top of mount justice, or as the ghost called it âthe best stargazing spot in happy harbourâ
âHey.â Ok Wally not the best start but at least itâs a start.
âHey.â The ghostâs voice would have gone unheard if Wally wasnât right beside him. Softly muffled into his arms that he rested his head on.
âLook IâŚâ He knew what he needed to say. What he wanted to say. But actually saying it would always be a struggle for him. âIâm⌠sorry. I shouldnât have said what I did. I shouldnât have questioned your existence ďżźor the existence of ghost and I. I donât know. I donât like being wrong and I donât like not understanding things and well. Ghost kinda throw off my whole understand of life! I donât know how to handle that!â He took a breath. âBut I shouldnât have taken it out on you. Iâm sorry.â
âWally, I more than anyone can understand question your world view!â He snapped back, his glare softened by the tears in his eyes. âI use to think my parents were nutjobs?! âScientistâ that research ghost??? I mean come on!! But than I become this!!â He gestured to himself, as if that was an answer all in its own. âAnd suddenly they werenât crazy anymore. Suddenly I was an anomaly not only to the living world but the dead one to!â
He didnât elaborate ďżźon that point. He never told the team about the whole halfa business and never planned to. They had such a hard time accepting he was dead, he couldnât imagine them also accepting he was alive to.
Wally, thankfully didnât question it. He was here to apologise, not to question Dannyâs existence.
âI just donât get it.â The ghost continued. âIâve given you the evidence. Iâve explained it until I was blue in the face but you just donât listen! Isnât that what science is about? Finding the truth based on new evidence? Why isnât my evidence good enough for you? My very existenceďżź? Why?â He seemed to be pleased now. Begging in a way that made Wally feel like these words were not only meant for him.
He didnât know what to say to that. No, he did know. He just didnât want to. Because if Wally is anything itâs evasive but this. It was something he didnât even want to admit to himself let alone Danny. He had to though. For both their sakes. âI⌠Iâm not an idiot Danny. Even though I act like it sometimes.â That drew a half hearted chuckle from the both of them. âI knew. All along that I could have died in that accident. But I⌠I was at the point were, well, I was ok with that.â He didnât know what he expected from Danny. Shock? Sadness? Whatever he expected it wasnât the understanding that sat on phantoms face. âGoing in I knew that I would either walk away with new life or not walk away at all and I was ok with that. Now though? Now I know that if thing had gone wrong I might have still, somewhat continued on. I didnât want to think about that. I didnât want to think that I might still exist forever regretting what I did.â The two sat in the quiet for a moment. Letting the confession settle before he continued.
âSo I just did was I was good at. Denied It. Ran away from it if you will.â He sighed. âI never even said it out loud. Well, until now.â ďżźďżźďżź
They shared a quite laugh again. âYeah I get that.â Danny added, sporting a contemplating look. âI arr⌠I never actually admit that I died. I mean like.â He paused, trying to find the words. âI knew I did. Logically. But like. I went from being alive to being this and I guess I never really admitted what happened. Hell I didnât even have a funeral.â
âWhat?â
âI know right.â Danny laughed as if he wasnât about to drop a bombshell on the red head. âYou see I can make a really good human disguise. Could from the moment I was dead so I just kinda, went on living. I mean my parent barely noticed me before why would they noticed a difference. By the time my sister found out I was already settled into living again so it wasnât really necessary.â
Wally stared at him. He knew what that was like. Being forgotten by those that are meant to always love you. He never realised how similar him and phantom were. The more they talked the more he realised that phantom was who he could have been. If things had gone wrong. Would his parents had even noticed? Or would they be oblivious like Dannyâs?
âWow.â He didnât know what else to say to that. Well other than, âman, Canaryâs gonna be busy this week.â
âOh hell yeah. Sheâs gonna be fully booked for like a month.â They laughed as the watched the stars. A new connection, an understanding forming between the two. Seemingly the only two who understood what they had gone threw in such a way.
They kept true to their word. Much to the delight of the team therapists. She was overjoyed that the two most caging members of the team opened up to not only her but each other as well. That was probably why, when Wally came to her with idea, she was fully on board with it and even helped him with the preparations.ďżź
That led to now. Wally walking with Danny in his human âdisguiseâ threw happy harbour. Refusing to tell him where they were going. Only that it was a surprise.
Only upon stopping at the gate to a cemetery did Wally fill him in.
âSo, I know you said we were cool and all. That you forgive me for what I said but I⌠I didnât feel right. Leaving it where we did so I wanted to get you something.â He cut off Danny, who was no doubt about to say that he didnât need to get him anything. âI know, I know but just humour me?â
Danny rolled his eyes and gestured for him to lead the way. He honestly didnât know what he expected. Looking back he probably should have. He didnât though. Not until he stood before the headstone. It was beautifully carved. A lot of time and love going into the craftsmanship. Not only that but the space geek quickly recognised the stone it was made of was more than just stone but made of a meteorite. It took him a second longer for the inscription to sink in.
âDanny Phantom
While he may not find rest, he will sure find peace.â
He didnât even realise when he had knelt before the stone. When his hand had gently grazed over its surface or when the tears welled in his eyes. Wally stood there quietly. Hopefully he had not made the wrong choice. Those fear were quickly squashed however when with speed that made him question if Danny was secretly a speedster, he found himself with the ghost in his arms. Holding onto him so tight as if he was afraid he would slip into the afterlife if he were to let go.
âThank you.â The soft words floated ďżźbetween the two. Heavy with understanding between the two forgotten children with an unspoken promise to never be forgotten by the other.
âWhere did you get the meteorite?â
âSupes ďżźowed flash a favour.â
Dp x dc idea
So every scene Iâve been introduced to dp x dc, or more specifically in this case, young justice and dp. Iâve been thinking about the fact that yj Wally west purposefully recreated his uncles lab accident (Idk if this is the case with other Wally west but I know it is for yj so) to become a speedster.
Well imagine Danny finding out about this and losing his fucking shit. Iâm someone who always headcannons that Danny was a lot more affected by his accident than he let on, so imagine mr emotionallyďżź repressed ďżźDanny learning that Wally not only willingly but purposefully recreated a dangerous lab accident just bc he wanted power.
Imagine Danny losing it as Wally. Screaming at his things like, what were you thinking? Do u understand how dangerous that was? And, you could have died!!
To the last one Wally says he had it under control and while there was a risk it was minimal. âPlus fatal lab accidents are a lot rarer than you think. Think about it. How many people do u know that died in a lab accident.â
âWell I did for one.â

The Last Time Iâll Write a Long Post About Supernatural (15x18-15x20)
15 YEARS OF WATCHING THIS SHOW. 11 YEARS OF RUNNING A BLOG ABOUT IT. ITâS BEEN QUITE A RIDE.
[15x20 Speculation + evidence at the bottom]
First off, I just wanna come clean and say, after all these years, I still think they shouldâve ended at Season 5.
If youâre going to come at me with âThen whyâd you stick around to watch it if you didnât like it?â, your question is immature, and the answer is simple: I just want to know what happens next (I also love the main characters and their actors too). You can watch a show and still think itâs shit.
Call me a clown, but despite all the disappointment and trust issues that this show has given me, I would still look forward to the day where it might just turn itself around and bring back the quality it once had, or realize the potential of each story it was trying to tell, or at the very least, do justice by my favorite ship.
Never happened.
Theyâve had a few good episodes here and there. I canât imagine the SPN Universe without The Man Who Would Be King, The French Mistake, and Scoobynatural. Seasons 6-10 were enjoyable at times. I blocked out most of 7 & 11-15.Â
If youâve been following this blog since its heydays in 2010-2014, youâd know Iâd try my best to defend Destiel and this showâs decisions regarding it no matter what.
Because you know what, as a CONCEPT, this show is good. If you take a look at all the worlds its storylines have birthed in fanfiction/fanworks, youâd see how much Supernatural has wasted its own story arcs. The writing got shittier as each season progressed, and theyâve obviously given up in production as well because the quality in the execution has noticeably gone down too, but if you take a step back and take a look at the bigger picture, youâll see that this show still tries to make sense of itself.
[If youâre still following this post, please bear with me, I know this is long, but I just want you to understand how jaded and pessimistic I am with regards to this show, so maybe you can buy into whatever hopeful thing Iâm about to say later on.]
SO LETâS TALK ABOUT DESTIEL
Never in my wildest dreams did I think that they would give us Castielâs âI love youâ speech. To the point where, if I werenât so desperate for it, I would argue that it was completely out of character for him to word vomit the way he did (but Iâm not gonna diss on that right now because Iâll take what I can get).
Iâve valued every meaningful and obscure exchange that Dean and Cas have had in the earlier seasons, and I was willing to accept their relationship as just that--undefined, without any clear boundaries as to what they really are. And I think that was beautiful on its own.
But now, theyâve chosen to define it.
After theyâve driven every possible wedge between Dean and Castiel in seasons 11-15, to try to explain away their feelings as something they offer to a collective.
Dean canât mourn and pray for JUST Cas, he has to mourn and pray for EVERYBODY--even Crowley, even some chick he just met, because god forbid he cries about just the guy who has given up everything for him--that would be âtoo homoâ.
Theyâve even set Cas on a path to abrupt fatherhood just so he can care about something other than Dean. Make it seem as if Dean wasnât his purpose through and through.
And after all these years of this stupid show trying to deny it, they choose to acknowledge it at the worst possible circumstance, at a time where theyâve been so far apart, that it seems so foreign for them to suddenly come together.
But here we are. And theyâve chosen to tell us.
Chosen to tell us that everything that Castiel has done leading up to his death, he has done it because he was IN LOVE WITH DEAN WINCHESTER.
Chosen to tell us that the ONE THING THAT WOULD MAKE CAS HAPPY IS DEAN WINCHESTER.
Chosen to tell us that BEING WITH DEAN WINCHESTER is something that CAS WANTS BUT KNOWS HE CANâT HAVE.
And theyâve also chosen to tell us nothing about how Dean feels.
Sure, finding out your angel made a deal, the stipulations of said deal, his newfound happiness philosophy, his long-winded monologue of why he loves you and why youâre worthy of his love, and to top it all off he tells you that being in love with you is enough to make him happy while he subtly hints that heâs always wanted to be WITH you romantically, was a lot to process in the 5 minutes after youâve just had an existential crisis.
Itâs whatever, right? Letâs culminate 11 years worth of tension and feelings in 5 minutes. Letâs waste the entire episode with cringey expository dialogue, and irrelevant sequences. The whole season was a waste anyway.
You know what Supernatural? FUCK YOU FOR THAT. They deserved better. WE deserve better.
And I would love nothing more than to hurl every possible insult your way,
But for the last time, Iâm going to HOPE that youâre finally going to try to make it better for the fans that stuck by you all these years.
No more baiting new viewers, no more placating casual viewers, no more excuses. 15 years. Bring it home for the people who have actually been around.
SO HEREâS HOW I THINK 15x20 IS GONNA GO
Thereâs two ways this series is gonna end. Horribly or Spectacularly.
First letâs all take into consideration what Andrew Dabb says about it:
So, letâs start with
ENDING HORRIBLY
In this scenario, Misha is telling the truth about his last day of filming being 15x18. His âcamping tripâ during the last few days of filming 15x20, was actually a camping trip. He doesnât go to Vancouver to shoot.
Jensen wasnât âbeing carefulâ during the zoom interviews that it was just him and Jared quarantining for the shoot, it really was just him and Jared (althought most of these were done pre 15x19) Supernatural isnât smart enough to do misleading PR, and theyâre once again oblivious to the potential of their own story.
Misha hasnât posted a âGoodbye Castielâ tweet because heâs probably saving it for last episode or he forgot because it was overshadowed by the Destiel trend that night.
So what we get is:
Sam and Dean are on the road again, up against the monster of the week. Only their world no longer has actual Supernatural beings anymore, so the monsters theyâre fighting are humans.
Humans end up killing the Winchesters (despite having gone up against literally every powerful being imaginable INCLUDING God himself). Dean and Sam end up in heaven and relive their greatest hits.
Meanwhile, Castiel rots in The Empty because he died after realizing that he was happy and gay. Jack doesnât bother rescuing himâhis surrogate dad, the guy who made this specific deal to spare himâeven though it was so easy for him get Cas in and out of The Empty when he had a fraction of the power that he has now.
Dean never speaks of Castielâs confession because despite all the hints of a profound bond in the earlier seasons, and the fact that Dean has never cared for anyone (who isnât his actual brother) as immensely as he does Cas, Supernatural just canât have its main macho character be âsuddenly bisexualâ because that would hurt the male ego or some shit.
His heaven would probably be living happily ever after with his family. âFamilyâ meaning Mary and John Winchester--two of the shittiest parents ever (but theyâre not going to include them in this episode like they were supposed to because of Covid) and Sam.
Sam also gets a dog. As usual.
I wouldnât put it past Supernatural to do this. After everything theyâve pulled, this would be right up their alley. I actually expect this ending.
Anyway, onto the next possible ending
ENDING SPECTACULARLY
In this scenario, Supernatural tries to stick the landing, and Jensenâs whole âIt didnât sit well with me at first, but then I took a step back after talking to Kripke, and realized that I had to view it from an audience perspective, I am now really excited about itâ (DC Con 2019) anecdote about his thoughts on the final episodes, were actually about Dean potentially ending up with Cas. (Which would totally make sense because Jensen at first didnât see Dean as anything but hetero, but as of late, he has been throwing in Destiel jokes of his own, so he seems to have warmed up to the idea)
Backed with Mishaâs tidbit (DLConline 2020) that he and Jensen had conversations about Destiel, and that they wouldnât have gone through with it if Jensen wasnât onboard with it, but Jensen didnât push back at all. (Why would they need to check with Jensen if it was just Cas going all in?)
Robert Berens (writer of 15x18) also wrote the script at the beginning of Season 15, but made Misha privy to the concept a year prior (Season 14), so they went into this season knowing about Destiel going canon.
This oneâs a reach, but this scenario also supposes that Misha was lying about his whereabouts during the filming of the final episode, and him saying that 15x18 was his last episode is part of the diversion to avoid taking away from the weight of Castielâs death.
And that Supernatural is actually self-aware of its own material (similar to how they have wrapped things up in the pastâlots of expository dialogue, poor execution, but fulfills the story arc)
Since Season 15 is basically a Meta Season (Chuck/God as a writer, pretentiously calling out how he created the worlds, its characters, and basically invalidating the past 14 seasons), and 15x19 is supposedly the finale for Season 15, written by two of the worst Supernatural writers, Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross-Leming (Bob Singerâs wife), then we can assume that 15x19 is where the shitty writers kill themselves--as Chuck, of course.
So we get a badly written episode that produces a bad ending, or as Becky put it, âAll action, and no Casâ
So we get the bad writers season ending at 15x19.
And 15x20 is where Sam and Dean write their own stories, and where the cast had a hand in pitching ideas for it.
Dabb has mentioned that 15x20 (Act Two) is a SERIES finale, where they try to resolve the charactersâ journeys.
Because as everyone has acknowledged, Supernatural isnât about the story, itâs about the characters.
So hereâs what we can get out of it:
With no more Supernatural beings left to fight, Sam and Dean are in a stalemate. Theyâve resigned themselves to fighting to the bitter end, but the âendâ has passed, and theyâre still standing.
So they try to figure out who they are now, and what they want out of the life they still have.
Sam still wants a normal apple pie life. Before Dean dragged him out of college to go hunting with him, he had a whole life planned out for him. Become a lawyer, settle down with a nice girl, and get a dog. He gave all that up because they had work to do, but now the work is finished, he can finally go back to wanting that for himself again.
Dean finally realizes his self-worth after Cas saves him again. His prayer to Cas in purgatory may have helped him come to terms with his anger, but the whole âyouâve done everything you did for loveâ speech finally put him in his place, and he learns not to hate himself anymore.
But of course, he cannot fully reconcile with himself if he doesnât get Cas back, and tell him how he feels.
Because Dean actually wants something for himself this time. Something he knows he can finally have if he can just salvage it.
So maybe this time around, with the help of Jack (off-screen), Dean saves Cas. Grips him tight and raises him from perdition.
They bypass The Empty deal by turning Cas human, and he lives the rest of his days with Dean.
Dean and Cas know they deserve to be saved, and they know that they deserve to be happy.
(Wishful thinking, maybe they kiss a little)
Anyway...
Iâm just saying, thereâs NO WAY that theyâd have Cas go through that whole rushed speech, if they werenât going to do anything about it later on.
But again, after 10 years of disappointment, I wouldnât put it past Supernatural to pat themselves on the back and say, âOkay, we sort of gave them what they wanted. Weâre good nowâ
If thatâs the case, Supernatural, Iâm sorry I wasted my time on you.
Hereâs to hoping đ¤Ą

War & the Jedi
This will be a long meta rant, FYI.
The Jedi Order, specifically the Prequel era Jedi Order, gets a lot of hate these days particularly regarding their involvement in the Clone Wars. Accusations are tossed at their feet constantly ranging from corruption all the way up to warmongering.Â
Letâs first look at the Oxford English Dictionary definition of these two accusations, shall we?
Corruption - having or showing a willingness to act dishonestly in return for money or personal gain.
Warmonger - a person who encourages or advocates aggression towards other countries or groups.
The definitions of these two words are so very misunderstood when it comes to relation to the Jedi. If the Jedi are truly âcorruptâ then where are the examples of their dishonesty for wealth or personal gain? In fact, Iâd argue that canon (and Legends) makes a point to show us that it is the Sith who are in it for personal gain, not the Jedi. The Jedi have absolutely NOTHING to gain from this war on a personal level, in fact they are losing members in terrifying numbers.
The Jedi are also not advocating aggression towards the Separatists, in fact what we see instead is the Jedi DEFENDING against the Separatists. I have yet to see in either canon or legends an instance where the Republic forces invade a Separatist planet who doesnât have an army or some military involvement (i.e. weapon factories). However, time after time we see the Separatists forcing peaceful planets who want nothing to do with them to either bow to their cause or die (i.e. Ryloth, Lurmen planet, Kiros, Mandalore) the Jedi and Republic Troops will then follow the Separatists to these planets, but they try to do what they can to liberate the planet from the Separaist invasion and then they give the planet the OPTION to join the Republic for safety and economic reasons, but they never force them, as is super evident with Mandalore.
Yet people donât seem to see this and continue to drag the Jedi through the mud.Â
Here are the top 5 other âwokeâ takes I hear -Â
Jedi are peacekeepers and should not have gotten involved:
First things first, letâs look at the definition of Peacekeeper - a soldier, military force, etc., deployed to maintain or restore peace.Â
Iâd argue by that definition the Jedi were still peacekeepers, itâs true that they werenât a 3rd party as they normally were before the war, but their position was trying to maintain or restore peace. Peacekeeper is not the same thing as a Pacifist, the Jedi were skilled warriors (training from childhood to wield a lightsaber), the difference is Jedi used their skills for defense not attack which is what we constantly saw throughout the Clone Wars.Â
With regards to the idea that Jedi âshould not have gotten involvedâ I ask you then what exactly were they supposed to do instead?
We see at the beginning of Attack of the Clones that the Jedi are worried things will escalate to war, they have obviously gone to the Chancellor hoping that a diplomatic solution can be presented to avoid bloodshed. Or if that isnât possible then that the Republic have some way to defend themselves other than relying solely on the Jedi (i.e. an army). The Separatists are the ones pushing them to a breaking point, were the Jedi just supposed to stand back and let innocent people be invaded/killed because they didnât want to get involved? The Jedi were âGuardians of Peace and Justiceâ which means it was their duty to help bring about peace in the galaxy while also enacting justice.Â
Then after Geonosis (where they lost approx. 187 members mind you) they learned that the Sith are leading the Separatist army - the Jedi are duty bound by their code to fight the Sith, they had no choice but to join the war.Â
So, I ask again...what were they supposed to do instead?
2. Jedi used a slave army for their own purposes:
Okay, I can (and probably will) write a whole argument based on just this accusation alone. There are so many fallacies I donât even know where to begin but Iâll try.Â
I guess my first question is the same as #1, what were the Jedi supposed to do instead with regards to the Clones?Â
Technically speaking the Clones didnât âbelongâ to the Jedi, they were âpropertyâ of the Republic (as stated by Lama Su in Attack of the Clones). In fact, the Jedi Council not only didnât know about the order, they had vehemently denied Syfo Diasâ earlier request to raise an army in the first place. The Sith KNEW the Jedi would be against it, this was all part of their plan to trap the Jedi (as was EVERYTHING about the war) - they clouded the Force, they literally deleted Kamino from the Archives so the Jedi wouldnât discover it until the Sith WANTED them to (i.e. Jango just happened to use a Kamino dart?? Come on people). Yoda even states âblind we are if creation of this clone army we could not seeâ he fully admits they missed it because the Dark Side was clouding their vision.Â
Regardless, the army was created, there was no changing that fact. Had the Jedi not taken command of the army do you think the Clones wouldnât have had to go to war? Do you actually believe that the Republic who couldnât get their citizens to give 2 craps about the war wouldâve taken up the mantle and fought instead? Do you think if the Jedi were like âthanks, but we didnât order thisâ that the Kamioans wouldâve just let the Clones go free?Â
The answer youâre looking for is...no.Â
So, like absolutely everything about the Clone Wars the Jedi did the best they could with the cards they had been dealt. They chose to lead the army on the front lines, putting themselves in just as much mortal danger as the men they were leading. They even sent a member of the Jedi Council to oversee the creation of future clones/training to ensure they were being treated humanely (something the Kamioans thought was ridiculous). They were the first to tell the clones that they were individuals, they constantly put themselves in front of their men to protect them (i.e. season 7 Obi-Wan deflecting the rocket from blowing up his men). The Jedi did what they could, just because we didnât see on screen Jedi stopping to grieve every time a clone died did not mean that they didnât care - real life Generals canât stop in the middle of a battle to grieve over their fallen soldiers either, so why is it we consider it a moral crime if the Jedi donât?
Another thing Iâll add is once the Jedi had evidence that the Clones were actually ordered by Dooku, did they immediately stop and say âoh hell no, these flesh droids canât be trusted, we should just have them decommissionedâ?? NO! They defended the Clones, stating that they were good men and should be trusted (and look where that trust got them in the end).
The Jedi were forced/coerced to fight this war as much as the Clones were!! Why are we willing to forgive the Clones, but not the Jedi???
3. Ki-Adi-Mundi killing Geonosians was the same as Anakinâs slaughter at the Tusken camp:Â
This is another moment where context is everything because there is a HUGE difference between Ki-Adi-Mundi on Geonosis and Anakin in the Tusken camp. The fact that I have to even spell it out makes me wonder how people can even dress themselves in the morning.Â
The Geonosians were an opposing military force, attacking Ki-Adi and his troops. Anakin slaughtered unarmed women and children out of vengeance.Â
Now, had Ki-Adi turned to his men and screamed âto the catacombs!â brandishing his lightsaber with a murderous glint in his eyes and proceeded to cut down the unarmed bugs below the battle then youâd have an accurate comparison on your hands and Iâd be appalled right there with you.
But, as it stands this is not the same thing...not even close.
4. The Jedi sent children to war:Â
So, this is a tougher one and I can even understand the concerns behind it, and I even share some of those concerns. The thing I will say to this is, given what we see throughout Star Wars, what constitutes a âchildâ seems to be different than our own real world definition.Â
Padme, for example, was 14 when she was elected Queen, and she wasnât even the youngest ever elected. She (and her handmaids) were trained as children to defend themselves and their people both politically and in battle (much like Jedi), but you donât hear people condemning the people/traditions of Naboo the way we see the Jedi being condemned for theirs.
Jedi children arguably mature faster than your standard person, and with regards to Star Wars there are also speciesâ age ranges to keep in mind. Grogu for example is still a baby at age 50, could it be possible that Ahsoka at age 14 is on the same maturity level as a human in their early twenties due to her Togruta DNA?? We donât know, itâs never stated other than Anakin saying something about because of her advanced skills he forgets how young she is.Â
Obviously Boba Fett is treated like an adult by other Bounty Hunters - no one even questions when he picks up a job and is placed in charge of a group at age 12 or 13 (and he is placed in an adult prison without anyone questioning it). It could be that by law according to Star Wars that 13 is actually considered an adult. Throughout history (and in many different cultures) 13 was when people were considered to be âcoming of ageâ, So, once again weâre placing our cultural biases onto a fictional space fantasy world without realizing it might not even be an issue in that world. Â
But even beyond all of that I ask you again - what else should the Jedi have done?Â
Their young Padawans would eventually have to grow into Jedi Knights, even before the war by the time they are teenagers they usually followed their Masters on missions (often very dangerous missions) in order to get real world experience. At the time of the Clone Wars the real world they were living in was one at war. If they hadnât brought their Padawans onto the battlefield how else would they have learned how to strategize, or how to cope with the emotions of battle? They wouldâve been ill prepared if the war had continued on for years and years as it had looked like it was going to do...once again, the Jedi had no real choice in this.Â
5. The Jedi lost their way because of the war:Â
Did they though?? Iâd argue they actually didnât. We first have to ask ourselves what is a Jedi - well, according to the very first time we hear any type of a description about a Jedi they are introduced as the âGuardians of Peace and Justice for the Republicâ I donât see how the war took that away from them.Â
The Oxford definition of Guardian is a defender, protector, or keeper. I fail to see how the Jedi stopped being any of these things because of the war.
Hereâs the bottom line, the Jediâs biggest mistake was that they fell for a plot 1,000 years in the making. The Sith spent over a millenia perfecting/hatching this plan, there was nothing the Jedi couldâve done to prevent the war by the time the trap was sprung. As always, Iâm not saying the Jedi were perfect (I hate that I have to always specify that when I argue that the Jedi were good), all Iâm saying is they tried to do the most good that they could with the situation they fell into - few groups/characters can claim the same thing.
Everyone seems to forget that the Sith controlled BOTH SIDES to that war, there was nothing - absolutely NOTHING the Jedi couldâve done that wouldâve changed or won that war. So, instead they saved as many innocent lives as they could and to me, thatâs very Jedi.Â

Being Damian Wayne's Twin Sister Would Include:
Headcanons.
âExactly. I don't ask my dog to drive, and I don't ask the Justice League to solve my problems.â
â Damian Wayne, Adventures of the Super Sons #9: Showdown on Hexworld
TRIGGER WARNING:Â Cursing, (Damianâs) death. Mentions of toxic masculinity and internalized misogyny, nightmares, blood, knives.
Headcanon masterlist.
When people ask you, âSo, which one of you is the evil twin?â Damian always glowers, and you always motion to him.
You look disturbingly alike when only your eyes are showing; Damianâs got long lashes. Talia taught you a good tactic for tag-teaming in combat as kids was to pull up your hinged balaclavas and make the enemy think there was only one of you, that theyâre seeing double.
Or for one of you to hang back while the other attacks as a distraction before the other knocks them out from behind.
Obviously, this wonât work when the two of you start filling out, but it works when youâre kids. Itâs the reason why, even off the field, the two of you usually wear a matching outfits with hoods.
You utilize the same methods when she sends you to live with Bruce.
You don the Robin costume just like he does, much to the rest of the Batfamâs confusion (both because they werenât expecting it and because they canât tell you apart either), but sticking with the âredâ theme, you go by Redstart.
Thereâs a rumor on the street that Robin V. is a meta that can teleport.
The two of you are freakishly good at mimicking the otherâs voice and mannerisms, which makes it even harder for your family.
Jason tells you two about April Fools Day, and you make the most of it. Of course, Damianâs a pain in the a$$ and decides to go around pretending to be you and getting into trouble. Youâre banned from the mall, and you still have no idea why.Â
The two of you can communicate with just an impassive expression (Dick says it looks like a prime example of twin telepathy to anyone else), but anyone close to you knows shÂĄtâs about to hit the fan when the two of you look at each other and smirk.
If itâs something you canât communicate nonverbally, you use your cryptophasia.Â
Cryptophasia is a language developed by twins when theyâre learning to talk. Most of them grow out of it, you and Damian decided to keep developing it so it became more of a conlang. No one else has been taught to speak it, and they never will be. Itâs for emergencies only.
Sun Tzuâs The Art of War was your Bible growing up, and the two of you call out verses when you fight together and need the other to understand a tactic (you both inherited Bruceâs eidetic memory, so youâve got it memorized).
When you get too big to pull off the which-is-which game, you make your own costume and become the true Redstart.Â
Itâs basically Damianâs Robin uniform (the Super Sonsâs version is the only one Iâll accept), but the boots and gloves are black, the biceps have a white stripe, the lining of the cape is white (the lining of the hood is black), the gold accents become white, it has a zipper down the front instead of clasps, and the mask becomes black (including the eyes). The waterline of the eyes is white. Like a painted redstart.
If Damianâs into animals, youâre into plants. The two of you find common ground on the fact that pollution sucks, so when you walk Titus, you take a trash bag and gloves with you to pick up litter as you go.
You did not want to go to Jonâs school.Â
Not because you donât like Jon (because you do), but because you know you could run intellectual circles around every one of those snot-nosed brats.Â
School is stupid. Especially because the American education system is subpar; everything about it is.
You hardly pay attention in class. You do all of the homework a week ahead of time incase something comes up. Usually youâre doing next weekâs homework in class. Youâve written entire papers on your phone in Google Docs in the middle of class to be printed out later.
If youâve already done everything, Damianâs usually drawing and youâre daydreaming or youâre working on a case on your phone.
The teachers are always trying to catch you not paying attention, but you little shÂĄts can always answer their questions.Â
Damianâs closest with Dick, but youâre closest with Tim. You admire his ability to plan ahead (see the entirety of the Red Robin comics), and you know that heâs better than both your father and your grandfather; you want to be as good as him when you grow up.
It takes a long time to wash the toxic masculinity and internalized misogyny our of your head, to learn that your grandfatherâs ideas of âstrengthâ were wrong, that itâs okay to lean on someone besides Damian, that you can be just as strong as your brother and still be feminine, that there are acceptable emotions besides anger.
Actually, your father teaches you that anger is more likely to get you killed. He wonât let you go into the field when he knows your angry.
Itâs harder to drill out of you than your instinct to kill.
Thereâs a Lebanese restaurant called Tarbooshes (Teen Titans Special #1) the two of you go to when youâre feeling homesick. They make ox blood soup the same way your mother did, and itâs the only non-vegetarian thing Damian will eat for that very reason.
Itâs nice to have a place to go where they know you by name and know what you want when you tell them âthe usual.â Itâs nice to have a place where youâre not a Wayne or an Al Ghul, where youâre just [Y/N] and Damian.
You disappear for an hour on your birthday to eat there. Bruce has asked you were you go, but you kept that between the two of you.Â
Speaking of birthdays, youâre eleven minutes older than him. He was six pounds and ten ounces (Batman & Robin #0?), and you were a solid seven.
After Damian died, you go to Tarbooshes to feel close to him.
You were doing all right with the no-killing thing until the night Damian died.
Heretic never stood a chance.
He looked so much like Damian it gave you nightmares, though. Nightmares where you killed your twin brother and woke up sobbing.
Damian didnât give you a speech in his last moments. He just looked over at you and said in your cryptophasia, âIâm sorry.âÂ
Not âI love you.â Not âTake care of them for me.â You knew that; youâd do that. He didnât have to tell you, and he didnât have to ask.
Just âIâm sorry.â Sorry that you were the one that was left behind.
Itâs one thing to lose a family member, to lose a friend, or to lose a lover. Itâs another to lose half of your soul.
The two of you had always feared you would die apart. It had always been a possibility; you werenât stupid enough to think, âItâll never happen to me.â Because it definitely could.Â
And it had.
You wanted to run away from everything. Even just for a while. Go to one of your safe houses in London or France or whatever and just â you didnât know â stare at the wall until you felt better? But youâd made that unspoken promise to Damian â âIâll take care of them for you; donât worry.â â to take care of Titus and Catfred and Jerry and Batcow and Goliath, to take care of Alfred and Bruce and Dick and Jason and Cassandra and Tim, to take care of Jon and Colin and Maps.
You avoided the cave. And if you had to go down there for some reason, you refused to look at the Robin suits.
Dick noticed. He asked if you wanted them taken down, even just for a while. You gave him a look like he was nuts and said, âNo.â
Jon was a mess. More of a mess than you were, somehow.Â
Youâd shown up at the Kentsâs. Jon was out doing Superboy things with Clark and Conner. Lois was the only one home.
You nearly scared her out of her skin when you materialized behind her and asked, âIs Jon home? Itâs important.âÂ
He had to know first. He deserved to.
For all he put up with from you two, he deserved to be the first to know when one of you was f*cking dead.
Lois, of course, bless her heart, had the mom instincts to know that you were in no way, shape, or form okay even when you were trying so hard to hold yourself together. She asked you whatâs wrong, and itâs what made you break.Â
Your lip trembled. âHeâs gone.â
âWhoâs gone?â
âDamian,â your voice broke. âHeâs dead.âÂ
Jon came home to find you in his living room in your Robin uniform, covered in Damianâs and Hereticâs blood, snot running down your lip, sobbing in his mothers arms and knew what happened without having to ask. He did anyway.
When you and Jon both finally passed out, your Uncle Clark flew you back to the Batcave. No one was in any condition â not even Alfred â so he carried you up to your room; took your boots, mask, cape, and gloves off; and tucked you in. Then he went to find Bruce because there was no doubt he was losing it too.
Bruce doesnât tell you anything about trying to find a way to bring him back without the Lazarus pit because he doesnât want to get your hopes up.Â
You walk into your room one day to find Damian sitting there reading the dissertation (the requirement was three pages, not 120, but your teacher would just have to deal with your coping mechanisms) you had been working on for your World History class and left up on your laptop while on patrol.Â
He said with the utmost indifference, âYouâve made some good points, Sister,â and, of course, you pulled out a knife and attacked him because this was â was â was some shapeshifting alien or hologram tech or a cruel joke â your twin was dead, this wasnât funny, whoever did this was going to pay.
He met you blow-for-blow and flipped away from you before saying, âAnd here I was expecting a warm welcome,â in your cryptophasia.Â
âBrother?âÂ
âTt. Obviously.âÂ
Yeah, a college level thesis. Youâre smart. You inherited Bruceâs eidetic memory and were raised by assassins.
You learned seven languages and wrote five doctoral theses by the time your teeth came in, wrote your first letter to a newspaper editor when you were two, couldâve had a geology doctorate when you were seven (Super Sons #1), and it only took you a week to learn the language on Takron-Galtos. Youâre smart.
Youâre also incredibly skilled. You learned to drive when you were five (Super Sons #1), your mother trained you to go for weeks without eating (Adventures of the Super Sons #6), you can micro-sleep for days and converse with half your brain asleep, can use a muscular contraction to move your liver out of the way of a blade (Nightwing #20), and can place yourself in a deep trance to heal damages caused by a hematoma (also #20).
(My dumba$$ didnât note what Super Sons/Adventure of the Super Sons comic I was reading when I took notes, so I donât have all of them noted in the two above bullet points. But thatâs where theyâre from. If I end up rereading them, Iâll edit this and add the comic numbers.)
The first time on patrol you thought Bruce was gonna die, you called him Baba.Â
The next evening, when Dick came to visit the cave, he turned to you and Damian and asked, âSo, which one of you called him Dad?âÂ
âHowâd you know?â you asked.Â
âHeâs smiling the way he did the day I called him Tati.â
âHeâs not smiling,â Damian pointed out.
âHe is on the inside.â
Can we talk about how royally the Arkham Knights game screwed up Tim Drake? (Though, everything seems to screw up Tim one way or another, I guess.) Why does he look like a quidditch player in the gif above the cut?

do you have any thoughts on bree tanner?
On Bree Tanner herself, not so much. I did read her book, and from my recollection (I lent it to a friend who never gave it back. And Iâm pretty sure she didnât even read it(!)) Bree is pretty much what sheâs presented as.Â
Sheâs not stupid, but sheâs not particularly intelligent either, sheâs nice, but not a saint. She has been a vampire for only a few months, but she has already lost her empathy for humans. Sheâs an introvert who cares deeply for her friend Fred and crush Diego. She was never inclined to fight anybody, and spent the newborn battle just sort of mingling in quiet terror.
Sheâs a sweet person Iâm sure would have made a pleasant addition to the Cullen coven, but ultimately sheâs not remarkable.
When it comes to Diego, her supposed mate... hm. For those who didnât read the book, Riley told the newborns they had to stay in the shadows or theyâd burn in the sun. Bree gets a huge crush on one of the other newborns, and they find out vampires actually sparkle. This changes everything! Diego goes to tell Riley about the sparkling. Diego goes to live on a farm after that. No, really, thatâs pretty much what Riley tells everybody. Diego is fine, heâs on a very special assignment, next question. Bree eventually figures out that Diego is dead, and her grief combined with a lot of other factors lead to her concluding life is miserable. She dies thinking âOh well, guess I had a good run.â
Not unsurprisingly, I not only donât believe in mates, but I also donât think Diego was anything close to it for Bree either. They were close friends, Bree found out he was dead, and had no time to process it. More, vampires feel very strongly, and this was the only truly emotional event to befall Bree. It knocked her out completely. So, that she then decides she doesnât mind dying because thereâs no point living in a world without Diego seems to me to be a reaction born of her being young (both for a vampire and a human), emotionally inexperienced, and having been hit by this news less than an hour earlier. Had she lived, she would have been just fine.
So, those are my thoughts on Bree Tanner as a person.
Bree Tanner's impact is a different matter.
I think her death was one of the catalysts for the plot of Breaking Dawn.
The vampires in Seattle all died, Victoria included. There were no one left who knew Bree, and her life would have been a moment lost in time, like tears in the rain (Sorry, couldnât resist).
But there were the Cullens. More specifically, Carlisle.
Carlisle had spent his formative years in Volterra, and parted with Aro in friendly terms. He remained fond of Aro, and continued to think highly of him. He and Aro would have spoken of the Volturi, of the Volturi mission, of how such a law is enforced, and it is prudent to also assume that Carlisle would have witnessed at least a few trials. He came away from all that thinking of the Volturi as strict, but fair rulers.Â
Jasper, by comparison (Iâm bringing him in because I think heâs more representative of how your average vampire who hasnât been Aroâs boytoy for decades would view the Volturi), shivers in fright at the mere thought of the Volturi. To him they were executioners. But, again, fair. You break the law, and the Volturi descend upon you like God of the Old Testament.
Then cut to Eclipse, Victoriaâs got a newborn army wreaking havoc in Seattle, attracting a lot of attention in a developed country in a time of globalized news. Theyâre on CNN daily. They might as well write âFuck the Volturiâ in the sky.
And the Volturi do nothing.
Now why, Carlisle and his family wonders, would they do such a thing?
Edward has all the answers, of course - that Aro is choosing not to intervene because he doesnât like how large and powerful Carlisleâs coven has gotten, and Victoriaâs newborn army will take care of that for him. Edward also goes on about how Aro desperately wants him and Alice by his side, which does prompt an â... you sure about that?â from Carlisle, but ultimately Aroâs inaction on the subject speaks for itself and Carlisle canât make any excuses for it.
Regardless of Aroâs motives, that the Volturi would not be coming to enforce their own law became very clear. As a result of their inaction, Carlisle was forced to betray several of his own principles. He had to ask Jasper to teach the family how to kill others, he had to accept the aid of teenagers who could very well get themselves killed, he had to put his beloved family at risk, and he had to kill other vampires.
Aroâs inaction put him through hell and could have gotten his family killed. Would have, if it werenât for the wolves.
Jane then decides to make her entrance right after the battle ended, while the fire is still going. The timing could not be more clear: the Volturi were waiting it out, letting the Cullens be culled.
We then get to Bree, who was an innocent in all the ways that counted, and not at risk of repeat offenses. Jane executes her anyway. Not just that, she makes sure to torture Bree, twice, entirely gratuitously:
âSheâll tell you anything you want to know,â Edward said through his teeth. âYou donât have to do that.âÂ
Jane looked up, sudden humor in her usually dead eyes. âOh, I know,â she said to Edward, grinning at him before she turned back to the young vampire, Bree. (Eclipse, page 333)
Even if the execution can be justified, the torture cannot. Jane abuses her power because she can, and thereâs nothing the Cullens can do about it.
Then you have the fact that Bree had overheard a conversation between Jane and Victoria in which Jane gave Victoria explicit permission to take out the Cullens on the Volturiâs behalf. Bree replays this for Edward to hear before she dies, validating every paranoia he ever had about the Volturi. Just because he didnât tell Bella, doesnât mean he didnât tell his family. He certainly would have told Carlisle and Alice.
Over the course of Eclipse, Carlisle sees the Volturi neglect to enforce their own law because culling his coven is a higher priority to them, torture and execute a mostly innocent vampire, and then he finds out that they made a deal with Victoria.
Not only would he be massively disillusioned by the Volturi, but by Aro himself. The man he met in Volterra was a lover of the arts and the academics and spoke of justice among vampires, and then Carlisle gets to experience first hand just what kind of justice this is. Aro was not the person he thought he was, and their old friendship doesnât count for much either.
Look then to Breaking Dawn, where Carlisle has a vampiric child, but not an immortal one. Like Bree, he is innocent in all the ways that counted. This did not help Bree, and given the events of Eclipse (and remember only six months have passed), it wonât help him either. The Volturi have made it clear that they want to take out his coven, and whether or not the Cullens are actually innocent wonât matter.
The only way he can hope to slow them down, to force some kind accountability upon the Volturi (an accountability that might have preserved Breeâs life: she died because Jane had none), is to have there be witnesses to their trial.
And we get the clusterfuck called Breaking Dawn (or as I like to call it, Aro and Carlisle Break Up).

I didn't realize how often I thought about this fandom until I started churning out asks on a daily basis.
Knowing DC's creative trends/talent in 1988/89, what do you think would have happened if fans voted for Jason's survival? From released alternative comic pages, Jason still gets blown up but survives.
Do you think they had a plan for him to become Hush (like the Death in the Family interactive "movie" implies)? Would he get a personality change through amnesia? Or would the comics have retired him to fade into obscurity?
WHAT IF BUT JASON TODD SURVIVES.
Hi friend! Thank you for the ask! This should be interesting.
But before I give my answer, letâs take a look at those pages where Jason had actually survived Jokerâs attack.
From the second page we only can see one panel but some who have seen the entire, unreleased, page have said this about it:
âThe full page reveals more, including the arrival of Dick Grayson to Jasonâs hospital room, although a pencilled note in the margins says to strike him, and redraw the panels in favour of having Alfred in the scene instead. Dick rushed over as soon as he heard, and offered Bruce his help in tracking down the Joker.
In the published version of Batman #428, the same page depicts Jasonâs funeral, where Alfred asks Bruce if he should get in touch with Dick Grayson. In both pages, Batman says roughly the same thing: âIâll handle this by myself. No help from now on... thatâs the way I want it.ââ
This makes me feel like Jason having survived or not the Jokerâs attack would have resulted in the same outcome within Bruce. Dick shows up at the hospital to check on Jason and offers his help in tracking Joker to Bruce but Bruce doesnât want his help because from that moment on âhe works aloneâ.
That would lead to the same exact actions that happened with Jason dead. Bruce goes after Joker on his own and leaves up to fate if he dies or not (although he said that his issues with Joker never truly end, Batman (1940) #429),
And if Bruce pushes Dick away then we could also be having a scene like the one from The New Titans (1988) #55, where Bruce implies that Jason getting hurt was Dickâs fault for having moved on from Robin himself. If that happens then Dick would blame Bruce for putting Jason in danger way too soon and their fight will end up with Bruce kicking Dick out of the manor.
-
So, to answer your question, what would have happened if fans voted for Jasonâs survival?
I think that DC would have turned Jason into another reason why Bruce thinks that all he could ever be is Batman. It would have made Bruce dark, moody and sad just like DC wanted, all darkness and no light.
Jason wouldnât be dead but he wouldnât be truly alive and they would use that to fuel the angst that surrounds Batman.
It is a very sad thing, but I actually think that Jason surviving the attack wouldnât have had any impact on his own story, Jasonâs suffering/death were set up to make Batman want to work alone again. I just donât see DC back in the day working on Jasonâs recovery (physical and mental), I see them leaving Jason comatose and as a reminder of one of Batmanâs âfailuresâ. Maybe in a distant future Jason could have woken up with amnesia and they could have done something with him then but I really donât know how they could make that story work or if Jason would end up working as an ally or enemy of Batman.
Much like you said in the ask, I think that DC would have let the character of Jason Todd fade away,
-
Because that is a really sad answer, I decided to come up with other scenarios where I would give ideas of what I would have liked to see DC do, and what I would have done if I had existed back in the day!
What I would have liked to see DC do:
After setting the fact that Jason was left in a coma at the hospital after Jokerâs attack, I think DC should have had Bruce making some extreme decisions. With Jason alive but not really there I think that DC could have made work a plot point that they tried to pull off with Jason dead.
In a comic event called âUnderworld Unleashedâ the demon Neron offered bringing Jason back to life if Bruce gave him his soul in exchange. But with Jason alive I think that Bruce would have actually been even more tempted to take the offer if it meant that by giving his soul away, he could wake Jason up from the coma he was in. Then there could have been an event with magic users that made it possible so Bruce got his soul back or something. DC could have also had Jason have amnesia after Neron wakes him up so we would have a soulless Batman and amnesiac Jason trying to make their father/son relationship work (or not).
Another idea is Bruce making a different extreme decision where he asks Talia to help him find a Lazarus Pit to try his luck with Jason. Because Jason was in a coma and not dead the Pit would have actually worked (the Lazarus Pit cannot bring people back from the dead!). I imagine that if it worked then Bruce would owe Talia or Raâs a favour, and that could make an interesting story, mostly if Jason Todd ends up mad at Bruce because he didnât kill the Joker after he tried to kill him. (I do love chaos).
Maybe Jason could even join the LoA to make Bruceâs life difficult. He wouldnât become the Red Hood but Jason becoming an assassin after all that could have been the perfect recipe for complete chaos and I love that. I think DC could make it work, this last part of the idea is kinda inspired by Young Justice's Jason Todd.
What I would have done if I wrote for DC at the time:
I would have taken Jason away from Bruce! I would have Dick appear out of nowhere and I would have him take Jason with him back to the Titans Tower so they can both be far away from Bruce (at least for a little while).
If this idea sounds familiar it might be because you read another âWhat ifâŚ?â post that I made about what I thought would happen if Jason hadnât been found by Batman that night when Jason was stealing the Batmobileâs tires. I will link that post here!
This time Dick would obviously be taking Jason with him at a different time and he would actually try to train Jason a little bit more but Dick would also have Jason work on his trauma and then Jason would decide to leave the vigilante/hero life behind. But not completely because I still believe that Jason would still want to save people. He would also be very protective of his brother/best friend Dick Grayson, also known as Nightwing.
I just think that Dick could have handled the situation a lot better than Bruce, he would have made sure that Jason felt like him not being Robin anymore wasnât because he was a failure but because he can help people in other ways. He would have made him go to therapy and would have been more willing to share his own experiences with him.
I would have Jason studying to become a paramedic again (a different kind of hero) and this time he could also practice on the Titans when they got hurt in battle, if he did that then he could end up being an excellent medic for all superheroes!
I mean, in the Titans there are humans, aliens, metas, amazons and atlanteans. Jason could actually become DCâs very own version of Marvelâs âNight Nurseâ. I donât know, I love that idea and I think @hood-ex would like it too!
I just love the idea of Jason and Dick becoming each other's family. The Titans would also become Jason's family but he would be very protective of Dick. I just feel like Jason would have seen the whole thing (of Dick taking him to live together) as a fresh start after such a horrible experience.
I love Red Hood but I also love the idea of Jason becoming something completely different from that and this is one of my favourite ideas!
-
Oh! Before I forget, I think that the idea of Jason becoming Hush in the âDeath in the Familyâ movie comes directly from the fact that Jason âwasâ Hush for a second in the Batman: Hush comic. That was revealed to us in UtRH, Jason gave the real Hush all the information that he needed to get under Batmanâs skin. And then when âHushâ captured Tim and he showed his face that was actually Jason who then changed places with Clayface to confuse Bruce more.
So, yeah, I donât think DC had planned on making Jason become Hush.
Thank you so much for the ask! I hope the answer was good and that you have a fantastic week!

Hi, neuxue......If you don't mind me asking, who are your favorite âvillainsâ (or antagonists) in MXTX works? Whether itâs a final boss like Jun Wu or more of a side character like Xue Yang. (Whether you want to do a ranking or just write out in no particular order)...Sorry if you've answered this question before....
If I don't mind??? If I don't mind? Please, my friend, you give me an opportunity to talk about favourite villains and I am yours for as long as you'll listen.
Not going to attempt to order them so we'll just go by story:
CQL
Xue Yang - characters who don't realise what they want, or that they've found a way to have it, until the moment when they destroy it!! Who destroy it because on some level they don't truly believe they can have it at all, and because it's easier to lose something when you can convince yourself you were always going to, and that it was your own choice. The whole time-bomb of Yi City just wrecks me.
I'm also generally here for his brand of competence and mercuriality - the knife-edged playfulness that doesn't quite mask a deeper darkness, the tendency to dance just a little too close to the edge with the particular carefree abandon of one who cannot imagine living beyond youth.
Finally... oh man do I even want to try to articulate this? So, he has several traits that often get used as a shorthand for not just âevilâ but âinherently evilâ. Which... frustrates me. But with Xue Yang... yes, he's cast as a villain and yes he loses everything and yes he dies alone and unmourned... but there's a sense of 'it didn't have to go this way'. If the cart driver had been kinder; if his capability had been put to some use other than âweaponâ. Or that moment in Yi City where he seems to delight just as much in cheating at a silly game of choosing sticks as he does in tricking Xiao Xingchen into killing people. This idea that there could have been another path. (And also, via Yi City, that he is not... inherently unlovable). His story ends in tragedy, but itâs not framed, at least the way I (choose to) read it, as âyour story can only end in tragedy, because of the way you areâ. It gives the option to read it as âyou are not inherently monstrousâ.
(Which then almost feeds back into the tragedy of the first point, because itâs only there in a kind of meta sense: Xue Yang himself? only ever receives the you are a weapon, you are a monster, that is all you can be side of it. Oh man okay Iâll stop here before I get pulled into a whole essay on this because suddenly I want to).
Jin Guangyao - I love a schemer! I love a pragmatist! I love ruthless competence beneath an inscrutable smile! I love characters who will tolerate nothing less than absolute perfection in themselves because they have learned the hard way that itâs the only possible way to survive. Characters who are not exempt from their own ruthlessness, their own cost-benefit analysis. Characters who have learned from their world that happiness must be sacrificed at the altar of survival, and who will do so with heartbreak but without hesitation when necessary. The only way is forward; to look back is to fail, but the irony is they can still never outrun their pasts.
Also heâs another one where thereâs such a sense of it didnât have to end this way. So many points at which things could have been different, so many alternate versions in which his capability could have been channelled towards a different goal, if the goal carved into his bones didnât have to be survive, in a world that will try to make that impossible.Â
I love villains and antagonists of all stripes and moralities, but in this instance what I love is a character who doesnât want to be a villain, doesnât want their hands stained with blood, doesnât want to hurt those they love... but they do not see a choice.Â
Wen Zhuliu - heâs highly competent and wears fingerless gloves; what more do you want from me?
Honestly though, he fascinates me. In part itâs the fact that we just donât get much interiority to him, and only one exchange of dialogue that really suggests his motives, but we also get these little moments, that collectively build this sense of a kind of... lawful neutral, I suppose? Not even villain-by-necessity so much as villain-by-...debt? loyalty? But he also so clearly has such a strong sense of honour, and I just love trying to reconcile all of those pieces into a cohesive whole.Â
The other thing that really gets me about him is his extraordinary power and how itâs regarded - especially when juxtaposed with Wei Wuxianâs. In both cases you have a single individual who holds a terrifying and mostly unique power that threatens or pushes the boundaries of their whole society and world. Wei Wuxian commands ghosts without a sword; Wen Zhuliu can extinguish someoneâs power with his hands. But, crucially, the difference between them seems to be... that Wei Wuxian is a wildcard; Wen Zhuliu is leashed. And so I have to wonder once again at the strength of that leash, and at what would happen if Wen Zhuliu, like Wei Wuxian, decided to rebel. And in that whole question lives in this really interesting space of... what is it people truly fear? The power? The wielder? That personâs ability to choose? The uncertainty of what they will choose? The possibility of them realising they can?
***
TGCF
He Xuan - I mean the theme here obviously is competence, and He Xuan has a killer aesthetic to go with it, but mostly itâs just... the way his whole character is an exploration of revenge, and the line between vengeance and justice, and the question inherent in the irony of... throwing away the very thing you wanted vengeance for, in order to exact that vengeance.
(And also the whole cycle-of-revenge in doing unto another what was once done unto you, in the process of exacting that vengeance).
Iâm just. Unbelievably here for a good betrayal story, and this one has it all! The intimacy! The self-betrayal! The emptiness and hunger!
And while with Xue Yang I love that moment of realising what he wants, or what heâs losing, only in the moment when he destroys it... with He Xuan what I love is that he goes into this, in so many ways, knowing what heâs doing. This is not spontaneity; this is the ultimate premeditation. He knows what he has, in his guise as a heavenly official. He knows, intimately, the person he is betraying. He has given great thought to the how of that betrayal.Â
(Is it worth it, in the end?)
(After all, heâs still here)
Bai Wuxiang - one of the dynamics that will wreck me pretty much every time is what I like to call âintimate enemiesâ. Enemies-to-lovers can fit under that umbrella, but itâs a broader umbrella than just that. The idea of characters who (either one-sided or reciprocally) know each other so deeply, and can wield that knowledge to wound. The awful gentleness and precision of holding a knife to the core of someoneâs identity.Â
That, plus the identity fuckery in general. The way Bai Wuxiang frames himself as Xie Lianâs mirror, and the way he then reflects and warps and tugs at those pieces of Xie Lianâs self and name and will, trying to shape them in his image, but so gently. The way he talks to Xie Lian! The way he strokes his hair as he stabs him! Itâs just so much, okay!
So yeah, a lot of it is that Iâm just very into the highkey fucked-up dynamic he has with Xie Lian. But also Bai Wuxiangâs own story hits me in a kind of... if youâll forgive a Wheel of Time reference: betrayer-of-hope betrayed-by-hope kind of way. That he tried so hard once, only for it to fall to ruin in his hands, and now he watches another try (and fail!) as he once did. And the way he seems to, in trying to mould Xie Lianâs present to his own past, be searching for a kind of... vindication? A confirmation of that inevitability? That of course he failed, that he could never have succeeded, because this is the nature of humanity, and it is not worth saving, and so his attempts werenât failure.Â
But the thing with that is: itâs a lose-lose situation. If he succeeds and Xie Lian fails, yes, it gives him that sense of âthere was never another way, and no point trying to find oneâ but is that really... winning? Is finding vindication in despair truly a success? And yet if he fails and Xie Lian succeeds, then does that not also feel like a sword to the heart: that it wasnât inevitable, and that means he has to come to terms with his own failure and the heartbreak it wrought?
#this also begs the question of 'what counts as a villian'#to which the answer in these stories is: it depends on where you're standing#tgcf#the untamed#asks#thanad-zid#i need a better villains tag

the devil judge + the seven deadly sins
so, i made a gifset about who i thought falls under the seven deadly sins. and also shameless plug - please go reblog the gifset i made for this. took me ages to do.
but i figured i might as well make a meta post to correlate. so this is that post. itâs not everything i could discuss. i could be here for hours more, truth be told. but i hope itâs enough to chew on.
while i feel like a lot of these are going to be a no-brainer, i still want to talk it through because idk. i can, and i want to, and i feel like it, lmao.
gluttony
the elite are privileged and have an opportunity to indulge so much more than the general public, but in many different ways. this is shown throughout the show in the fact that they can indulge on luxury food, have political power, they can make a phone call or snap their fingers and everyone must follow their orders.
and the thing about gluttony is that there is always more to be had. you take a little and then realize itâs not enough and so you ask for more. case in point: in episode 11 when sunah suggests that yohan could be the new president, the current one gives her an alternative: dictatorship. because it wasnât just enough for him to be an actor and the presiding president.
youâll also know they turn in on themselves - the two other guys in the elite group. one who owns the company and the other dude - i really cannot remember their names and what they do, but yâall know who iâm talking about. it was so easy for them, when threatened, to fabricate documents to give to yohan about each other in order to get ahead. gluttony is only shared in the relationships we have until one realizes they can take a little extra of the pie. itâs the selfishness of having all the leftovers. gluttony cannot necessarily exist without someone elseâs sacrifice.
lust
i kind of had an ah-ah moment when i was talking this over with @technitangoâ. i was trying to decide who was going to be lust because lust is portrayed very, very differently in this show than what most of us are used to. we, of course, know sunah who lusts after a life of indulgence and riches because she equates that with respect more than actually wanting it because itâs monetarily worth something.
but then i realized the public is lust because of their need for justice. i wonât say revenge necessarily because theyâre doing as theyâre told when given the judge show. but we can quickly see how that evaporates into something akin to bloodlust, for criminals and people who normally get away with shit, to have their fair taste at conviction for their misdeeds. we even see it with yohanâs fanboy club - the lust that comes from adoration and dedication.
and even more so, the public is easily swayed and so is the nature of lust. it follows in the vein of needs and wants, and as soon as new information is presented, however may false, so does the wants and desires of what people want sway. how easy was it for them to turn on yohan for a split second on two occasions - on two accounts of bribery.
envy
envy, above all, is about wanting what others have because you do not have it yourself. it may not be exactly what they have, but a form of it. some people donât necessarily want money - they want what it can by, which is time, health and material goods.
sunah is the perfect example of this. she envies respect and recognition. she talks about bright and shiny objects, and thatâs true to her kleptomania tendences, but more than anything, she wants to be seen as an equal because being poor with a vastly different upbringing means sheâs looked down upon by those she thinks matters.
which also begs the question why she feels the need to seek validation from people in higher statuses to begin with when she can be the exception and not the rule - form her own understanding and environment to show others that the typical way of the elite is not actually all itâs cracked up to be - to which we see when she has no one to celebrate her victory with. itâs lonely being at the top. you get to your goal you thought you wanted but then what?
more importantly, sunah also envies family, relationships and simply put, human interaction. she wants to be cared for and treasured, and she looks for that in her position of power. because then all eyes are on you. because then thatâs what people care about. what she fails to see is that those eyes are just as fruitless and just as wavering. to be a leader means people loving the idea of you but not you as a person.
âpeople of envious nature are sometimes stimulated to seek to emulate those who have completed some great achievements and in doing so achieve something great for themselves,â according to Understanding Philosophy.
wrath
while i realize that gaon not might entirely fit the wrath trope, he certainly has his moments, and i think heâs lived with a tampered flame since his parentâs death. he just learned to briefly put it out in the form of distractions and a false sense of righteousness and justice. it isnât until he meets yohan that someone finally gives him the okay to feel the entirety of his emotions, that lets him breath and tells him itâs okay to feel anger and hurt. and while gaon ultimately chooses not to exact revenge, his wrath is what led him to becoming a judge and walking away from his teenage crimality.
gaon transposed his wrath into seeking justice, transformed it into livelihood, and reformed his narrative so that he was no longer angry and a teen with rash emotions. it was simply redirected and never really forgotten. yohan turned that redirection back around onto gaonâs ultimate heartache. fueled with that, it became easier to justify himself and his actions.
the most pivotal moment of turning his back on this mindset is, of course, the ministerâs suicide, where he takes a good look at himself and doesnât like what he sees. at this point, gaonâs upset isnât necessarily at yohan but at the situation in which they got themselves into. because the thing is, gaon doesnât absolve himself from what they did. he doesnât turn a blind eye to that and try to dismiss it. he owns up to what happened and confesses how he feels to yohan and how he has to leave for his own good, and in some indirect way, for yohanâs, too.
with yohan, his ultimately weakness, despite never admitting to it, is family. his wrath comes in the form of anger when the ones he loves are threatened. yohan lives by a moral code of loyalty because that means you wonât be abandoned, and as a child who lived with that verdict since the day he was born, itâs an ever-pressing theme of his.
thing is, wrath comes in two particular forms for yohan. again, one is family and the second is the rose-colored glasses heâs given himself in his revenge story. heâs always had a goal to presumably make right the wrong for taking away isaac, but within that, 10 years is a long time to plot revenge, to the point where it becomes so much easier to lose yourself to that, to become enraged with it and forget the initial goal all along. we see this in his inability to form the bonding moments needed with his niece and his casual throwaway comments over peopleâs lives - the comment he made to gaon about moving on to the next plan, and the ultimately nail in the coffin of pushing gaon to leaving him.
his fury has also led him to convince himself his own humanity is nothing short of a lie. therefore, itâs easier to justify the means to an end because of his own self-worth and self-deprecation. itâs almost like a self-fulfilling prophecy: he even admitted to gaonâs mentor that he is an abyss. heâs referred to himself as nothing but an animal or a monster - all characteristics of despondency to survive and to justify what heâs doing. sort of like a catch 22, yohan claims heâs an animal/monster and behaves as such, but because he behaves as such, it means heâs an animal/monster.
wrath for gaon and yohan are very different yet the same. they are slow-burning, and thatâs a dangerous type. itâs actually interesting when you think about the fire imagery surrounding the two of them because flames are quick to lap at anything in its wake, to destroy within a matter of minutes. and yet for the two of these men, their internal fire eats them from the inside out, painfully, until theyâre almost unrecognizable to others and to themselves.
sloth
sloth was a little more difficult to pinpoint because of its characteristics. it was either the minister versus the mentor, both of which i think could work in this role. however, i chose the minister simply because sheâs featured more and intertwines heavily with the plot line.
soth is a medieval translation of the Latin term acedia, meaning âwithout care.â
the ultimate characteristic of sloth is often identified as laziness, and while itâs easy to argue that the minister hasnât been lazy in her ability to get where she is, she became as much when she started lying to get to her position. isnât lying known as the easier way out? it absolves you of responsibility, of putting in the hard work, of apologizing and making things right. in the end, she had a goal and found the easiest solution to get there through her lack of responsibility for the roles she more than likely swore an oath to.
but that also translates into the other attributes of sloth: a failure to do the right thing, lack of emotions for people or of the self, and the fact that it âhinders man in his righteous undertakings and thus becomes a terrible source of manâs undoingâ according to The Seven Deadly Sins: Society and Evil.
while i think there are a lot of components of sloth that may not necessarily fit the minister, the apathy and carelessness are enough to showcase her aggression, despondency and restlessness when what little efforts she does put in do not go her way. another interesting thing to note is that many of slothâs traits correspond with symptoms of mental illness, such as depression and anxiety. itâs an interesting thing to note given the way the minister chooses to end her life.
greed
i donât know that jinjoo wouldâve had any provocation to the limelight if it wasnât for sunahâs direction, but sheâs eager to please and wants to be useful. itâs only natural for her to want more because itâs clear sheâs a career woman, loves her job and has a heart for serving the people.
but like gluttony, greed is also that little thing that plants itself and can take on a life of its own. you start looking for justifications as to why you canât have more than what you do, and in jinjooâs situation, sheâs already overlooked through no fault of her own. and itâs not that gaon and yohan are doing it purposefully, which is what makes their neglect heartbreaking, because truthfully, theyâre after the same thing jinoo is. sure, it looks different and the foundation of it is different, same with their motives. but theyâre all three judges on a residing bench working to exact justice - even if all three of them have their own personal agenda.Â
i donât think jinoo fully aligns with greed, but she does want more for herself, and i think thatâs only natural. you can tell she has a heart, and sheâs keen not to be overlooked. this isnât her pain point so much as it is she knows her worth and is more than ready to do what it takes to get where she wants. this, in and of itself, isnât necessarily a bad trait, but we can see how it leads to being deceived, especially for someone whoâs been left in the dark for so long.
she is enticed by the glitz and the glamour of being a head judge, but you can tell she feels some remorse and guilt for those thoughts at times. i think her sense of greed is a battle within herself more than it is extremely outwardly.
pride
soohyunâs pride comes in the form of her imbalance with right and wrong. her sense of righteousness and justice is so far leaning, even more than gaonâs. it can be chalked up to her being a cop, but weâve seen instances of this outside of her role within that agency. her pride doesnât let her see beyond saving gaon and getting to the bottom of every mystery that comes her way.
it also comes in the form of impulsiveness and her savior complex, putting elijah in danger, for example, instead of waiting for backup. itâs not necessarily from a belief that she can fix things all on her own, but she sees injustice and immediately jumps in. another case in point is her and gaon watching yohan wreck the ministerâs sonâs car. sheâs ready to go stop him, but gaon pulls her back, most likely because at that point, they hadnât been observing the situation for very long to get a read on it. also the fact that at that point, neither of them truly knew yohan and his capabilities.
but as to where her characteristics come from, we simply donât know beyond that of gaon. itâs unfortunate because we donât have much of her backstory, so there is no real understanding why she so firmly believes in entities of regulation beyond keeping her friend out of jail. she prides herself on her work and what sheâs able to accomplish, which is why itâs devastating to her to have to protect gaon by cleaning up his bloody handprint.
aristotle is of the belief that, âpride, then, seems to be a sort of crown of the virtues; for it makes them greater, and it is not found without them. Therefore it is hard to be truly proud; for it is impossible without nobility and goodness of character,â from Nicomachean Ethics.
but pride for soohyun isnât about honors or rewards. itâs for herself and her capabilities, her ability to protect gaon, and the virtues sheâs set as the precedent for herself. because sometimes itâs not even about establishing morals and ethics upon yourself. itâs about feelings/intuition, logic and observation. and no, i donât mean the feelings she has for gaon. there are things that humans do, both actions and words, that we inherently know are bad without someone telling us as much and without the rules of the world seared into our brains. there are some things we know, for a fact, are wrong to us as individuals.
for soohyun, she knows that gaonâs actions, and even her own, have consequences. from what weâve seen, i think it can be argued that itâs really about not doing those actions to prevent an outcome - not necessarily from a place of being just and right. that doesnât mean she doesnât understand good morals/ethics, but again, we have no background of what her internal guidance actually is.
to put this in laymanâs terms, weâll use gaon wanting to stab the conman in his youth. soohyun knows itâs wrong because it will incriminate gaon and therefore she stops it. gaonâs gone to her because he sees her as a moral compass. but is her own internal navigation rooted in justice the way gaon had to find it in the judicial system, or is hers rooted in her pride of keeping gaon safe? she stops him from doing things that will get him in trouble, but is she stopping him because the action itself is wrong or because the outcome will result in undesirable consequences for the two of them?
and of course, there is a flipped argument to be had there - iâm not arguing that gaon stabbing the conman would be right or justified. but what i am saying is that for her, her worldview is the only right one, and when anyone steps out of that, even gaon, it becomes a bit of an issue: the pride she has for that is palpable.
every character indulges
truthfully, every character has at least one form of these sins rooted in their characterization. some are larger than others, but the breadth of it can be explored even further for each. and thatâs what makes them more realistic and not just characters written on a page or following a linear progression of their writing deity.
the seven deadly sins are also notoriously rooted in religion. theyâre also a defining feature of aristotleâs works that represent the golden mean, in which each vice is parallel to a virtue.
the devil judge is so layered, but i think at the heart of it, itâs about humanity at its core. sprinked in are the philosophies and contradictions and what it means to look in the mirror, what happens when weâre blind to seeing our true selves and most importantly, how much changes when weâre swayed by our own misgivings. it really asks us to understand nature versus nurture, that people must find a belief in something to keep them going, and how futile our hopes and desires can actually be if weâre not carefully regulating ourselves, nevermind the entities established by society to regulate us, too.
the entirety of the show genuinely begs the question as to who is truly right, who is truly wrong, and if itâs even possible to find the correct answer.

1. Â Â Being the Artist/ Sensitive Also Kinda Scary Wayne Daughter HC (lol):
Warnings: Depression and anxiety mentions
¡    You were the first biological child of Bruce Wayne
¡    Well as far as you knew lol
¡    You were younger than Jason, but a few months older than Tim
¡    I suspect that if you were in the family business as long as Dick or so youâd have some issues
¡    Those would include but not be limited to depression and possible anxiety
¡    There would be happy days but it would still go downhill after a few days
¡    On the days where it was worst, everyone would pile in for family movie night
¡    Secretive person and would probably be quite and sarcastic
¡    Since you were living at the manor your entire life, you wouldâve lived to see Jasonâs death and it really hurt
¡    If you were a musician, I suspect that Alfred or Bruce would have walked in on you at the piano or something playing a terribly sad song about it or just emotions and theyâd cry
¡    Something like the song âBeautiful Scarâ by Alicia Moffet (sad one btw like omg)
¡    If you were a writer or an artist, just pieces describing everything symbolically
¡    Going back to the musician, there is a music room in the manor in my mind so I suspect that there are times where Bruce or one of your older brothers will carry you into your bedroom if they find you asleep
¡    You find it hard being a Wayne and all seeing as itâs like everyone around you is fake
¡    That led you to hanging alone a lot which concerned Bruce
¡    âY/N, why donât you go to the party you were invited to? Itâs a beautiful day for one.â He said one day finding you reading in your bedroom.
You looked at him solemnly, âAll my friends are fake and want me for money and clout.â âI donât try to go out with them much if I donât have to.â *Que protective batdad*
¡    The library is your home as well as the gardens
¡    Now public and patrol is a whole new story
¡    Riddler is your favorite villain because he starts good conversations
¡    Sometimes the villains have in fact questioned your health to your older brothers
¡    Riddler: So, does it concern you that Y/S/H/N seems to openly hate life or is it just me?
Nightwing: We all hate life, she just does a little bit more
Riddler: ...okkayyyyyyy
¡    You sometimes make very violent threats on patrol which lead to some interesting conversations in the vans back to jail
¡    The paps are literally scared of you
¡    You have given the famous Wayne glare but on level 1000, billions of times
¡    Very sarcastic answers to some questions
¡    When people on the internet come for anyone you love you shut them down asap
_______________________________________________________________________
2. Â Â Being the Business Woman
¡    You showed interest in the business for a while but never really total want to take over WE
¡    No, you wanted to leave that for Tim
¡    The boy deserved it anyways
¡    Instead you started taking extra courses in business and such in middle school and worked your way up
¡    While you didnât like galas, you did try and make connections
¡    You went to either an Ivy Leauge or Oxford or something
¡    Then Wharton
¡    After that you were on your way
¡    If you already had a business it was booming but now itâs âextra boomingâ? idk but you get the idea
¡    HuGE
¡    Bruce was very proud and made that clear in interviews
¡    Your company works closely with WE
¡    Asking B for advice

¡    Taught you to drive
¡    If you ever need advice you go straight to him
¡    Best birthdays ever
¡    You go and visit him at WE and he lets you hang in the office
¡    Thereâs a secret fridge stocked with snacks
¡    Dad/ daughter patrol
¡    Read you stories as a child
¡    Legit might still if you ask
¡    You sit in his office to do homework
¡    Has come home to you spinning in his office chair
¡    Shopping sprees
¡    Interviews
¡    Very protective on patrol when it comes down to being in a ton of danger
_______________________________________________________________________
4. Â Â Being the Metahuman
¡    Iâm thinking that you would have gotten your powers from a mission gone wrong
¡    It was probably involving magic or something and you were seriously injured
¡    I think that it would be fitting to be able to control darkness and things like shadows
¡    Everyone was freaked out including you
¡    You begged not to be sent away knowing what he thought of metas
¡    He promised that he wouldnât and just had someone over that would help you
¡    Lots of tests at first and you kinda just lived in the Batcave for some time just incase
¡    After that you changed your costume a bit to fit to the power theme
¡    The villains were straight confused
¡    âBats what happened to your kid? Why is she scarier now?â ...âitâs complicatedâ
¡    You know how in Young Justice, Robin had that creepy laugh?
¡    It was like that now but then shadows came out of the wall
¡    Everyone is pretty sure you made a few street criminals and Black Maskâs goon pee their pants
¡    Best Halloween fun on patrol now
¡    You scared Joker once
¡    The powers do sometimes take a darker turn and you had to learn to control that since it did come from a maliciously used magic
¡    âI can smell the fear off of you, clown.â You smiled and walked around him, shadows in the room, darkening your presence.  âUhhh Batsy, I donât like this one anymore.â
¡    Hanging out with more Metas
¡    You and Duke are like best friends
¡    Gotta figure it out with someone am I right?
_______________________________________________________________________
5. Â Â Being the Author
¡    Your father does have presence everywhere, but you donât like to think that that is the reason for your success
¡    I could imagine you being a true crime or just mystery writer
¡    Maybe even fantasy/fiction
¡    Jason helps you write them if you ever get stuck
¡    All of them go to your book signings and sometimes itâs embarrassing but also funny
¡    You love that they support you
¡    Care packages from Alfred when youâre on book tours
¡    There are typically also some more things tucked inside from everyone
¡    Staying up with Timbers
¡    Your room is probably really aesthetic just sayin
¡    Gardens and library is the beesstttttt
¡    Sometimes for books, you take your time on patrol and as a superhero even if you still do it as inspiration
¡    Everyone is like HoW Do ThEY COmE uP WiTh ThIS
¡    Hehe
¡    If youâre moved out I can imagine you have a really cool apartment or house
¡    Cozy and open
¡    *aesthetic*
¡    One time, Damian did a book cover for you and so since he actually wouldnât let you pay him, you took him on tour with you
¡    You helped him make that his side hustle lol
¡    Alfred has all of your books in the library

i know it's been a while since you said you wanted to drop some meta about blurry but i'm DYING to hear your thoughts on subspace and jason's sexuality in the context of the fic
hmmm let's see here...
so Jason, sexuality wise, did not really think of himself as much of a sexual person before Roman. in my verse, Talia is canon, Essence maybe, not the flight attendant because I choose to ignore original RHATO entirely. so he has one, maybe two women who he slept with, in a very vanilla sort of way.
he'd always thought of himself as straight, MAYBE a little bicurious. his flirting with Roman was just teasing, giving back what he felt Roman was putting out. he didn't expect to actually get turned on by any of it. didn't expect to act on it at all, ever. (that "I'm not into BDSM, pal" line was not a lie at the time.)
but then, when Roman got with him, pushed past all his limits and fucked him in a decidedly not vanilla fashion, he realized... okay, maybe there is something to this sex thing after all. it sort of opened doors he didn't know were there. and from there, it was like a second puberty, his sex drive flaring up and taking him to places where he made... questionable decisions.
that's not to blame Jason for where he ended up, of course! it's just that Roman took advantage of Jason's obvious naivety to push him deeper and deeper into things he wouldn't otherwise have agreed to. and he did it through the use of a very important little thing:
subspace.
Roman knows what subspace is. Jason, at the time of this writing, does not. Jason just thinks of it as "that headspace I get into where everything is fuzzy, nothing hurts as much, and I want to do anything to make Roman happy." he doesn't know other people experience it, too. he thinks it's unique to him and his "weirdness."
he also doesn't understand, as a result, what sub drop is. he doesn't realize he needs extensive aftercare to avoid that, and as such, just thinks that feeling really low after sex is a normal part of kink. which is part of the reason why he does it so much -- the more he does it, the more he gets back into that space, the less time there is for the drop. it's like an alcoholic immediately drinking again in the morning to get rid of their hangover.
Jason is stuck in a cycle of wanting Roman, getting what he thinks he "needs," ending up in subspace, and dropping after the fact before doing it all over again. he craves subspace like some people crave drugs.
it makes sense, right? when he's there, he doesn't have to think about anything. doesn't have to make decisions. just has to feel, to follow orders, do as he's told, and in return, he gets affection and attention and physical sensations that he's never had before in his life. and for someone raised by Batman to be ever-vigilant, someone raised on the streets where you can't even sleep properly because you have to defend your spot and your meager possessions, it's nice to leave all that behind for a while.
Jason is addicted to subspace. it's what he craves out of the experience, even more than an orgasm. whether or not he comes is secondary to getting put into that place. and that's what makes Roman so dangerous; he knows exactly how to do it to Jason, and manipulate him with it.
when you're a responsible Dominant, it's your duty to care for your sub when they're in subspace. even if they ask, beg for something, you have to know when to pull back. and Roman knows, he just doesn't care. he takes advantage of Jason's incapacitated state to do whatever he wants and make Jason think he's the one who wanted it. that, in turn, makes Jason feel so isolated, that the only person who understands what he wants and doesn't think he's a freak for it is Roman.
all in all, it's something that I've tried really hard to illustrate throughout the fic without ever actually using the terms "subspace" or "sub drop." because the fic is from Jason's limited POV, he won't learn about those things until quite a bit later on. I hope I did it justice, and I hope this rambly bullshit was entertaining for someone!
thanks for the question!

Core disaster week Day 1: Bartâs Birthday// First kiss
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Cassie smiled, sitting down in the picnic blanket. There was so much fucking food- it was awesome.
But not as awesome as being together, all of them. Itâd been a while since they managed to meet like this. Kon, particularly, had been hard to pin down and convince to come; but exceptions had to be made on certain days, and Bartâs birthday was the height of special occasions.
Tim, too. She risked a glance at him, stony and silent, and smiled sadly. It truly had been too long.
Sitting each on one end of the blanket, like a flesh and blood compass rose, she smiled again at the unintended philosophy of it all. Bart to the east, bringing the sun into their lives, his energy and warmth a hope for the new day; Kon to the south, lost in memories of the past but a steady, firm ground beneath them; She herself to the west, holding the weight of it all on her shoulders like the sky held the heaviness of sunset; And Tim, sweet, depedable Tim, was undoubtedly their north.
âCassie? Wonder-honey-baby-dearest girl?â
Snapping out of her reverie, Cassie waved Bartâs concerned face off.
âDonât worry, just lost in thought. Câmon dude, itâs your day, we canât start eating until you do!â
A little unsure, Bart sits back on his spot, glancing to his right at Tim. He hesitated a bit, something extremely unusual for a speedster presented with a widely varied menu (Kon and her had flown all over the world picking and choosing his favorites from every possible country- there was a lot).
âHe doesnât mindâ, interrupts Kon softly, before anything else can be said.
Taking his word as the gospel it is, Bartâs face broke into the biggest smile and cleaned up his first plate of âa little bit of everythingâ in less than a blink, already reaching out for more. Without even pausing his chewing, he started babbling out at Tim, who for once didnât reprimand him on his table manners, nor tried to use a napkin to clean his chocolate-stained cheek. Cassie tried very hard to hide the pang that surprise-attacked her heart.
Desperate for a distraction, she turned to her right, to Conner. He was looking at the other two fondly, a small smile breaking through his face of steel like it was butter.
She remembered back when they were younger, just children, before all the tragedies and the losses; he had smiled easier, then. Wider, unprompted, freely. Giving that handsome smirk like it was candy on halloween.
âIt was a good idea to come hereâ, he acknowledged, once again making her snap out of her head.
âOne day, youâll just accept that all my ideas are good.â
âDo I need to remind you about the deal with the beet demon?â
âThat wasnât that bad.â
âCassie. We had to eat borsch for every meal. For a month. I donât think Bart ever forgave you about that.â
They both waited for a second to see if the speedster was about to interject, but he seemed to have missed their conversation, regaling Tim with a tale of his latest training session with Wally.
âAnywayâ, Kon coughed, drawing her back to their moment, âit really was. I⌠I know I wasnât the easiest person to convince, so..â
ââThe easiest personâ? I had to track you down across an entire hemisphere, lasso you like a wild animal and drag you here kicking and screaming. Literally. My bruises have bruises.â
âAnyway, thanks. I⌠needed to see you all again. I never thought weâd be able to just⌠sit here and enjoy ourselves, without⌠you know, all theâŚâ
âAngst?â
â... yeah. How did you even manage to secure us this spot?â
Cassie smiled, leaning back against her arms, enjoying the sun on her face.
âYou can thank Timâs brother for that. I made him promise to make sure no one interrupted us today.â
The other meta snorted.
âItâd be a cold day in hell before I thank Nightwing for anything.â
She winced a bit, but refused to let the implications ruin her good mood. âCome on, you know heâs not my favorite person in the world, but heâs really doing his best to be here forâ -a quick glance, Bart still talking his heart out to Tim- âthe new Robin. If you can bury the battle axe...heâs not so bad, nowadays.â
Unsure, he shrugged.
âI donât really care if he discovers the cure to cancer and spends the rest of his life in seclusion as a monk. If I see him on fire and I have a big water bottle, I might help him put it out- after taking a few drinks, first. But thatâs as far as Iâd be willing to go for him.â
Considering the numerous times Kon had tried to outright attack the older vigilante, Cassie was going to take it.
âHow's Jon?â she asked, subject change as unsubtle as a kick to the chest, taking a delicious french pastry between thumb and forefinger and examining it.
He copied her, selecting something brown and salty-looking from the assorted items
âNothing new. Heâs still a better mentor than Supes, though his choice in friends leaves much to be desired. Still, like I told you, Iâm⌠better? I think?â
A pause, as he washed down whatever he ate with a raspberry slushie. Bartâs incessant chatter, once annoying, was now a beautiful background noise. He was just so damn happy, Cassie felt more accomplished even than the time Diana first told her âgood jobâ after a spar. All heâd asked her for his birthday, soft and broken among his tears, had been this; just the four of them, together.
And sheâd done her best to make it happen, securing this place and guilting Kon into accepting. Sheâd done it, and the memory of Bartâs genuine laugh as he told Tim about his last caught villain would -hopefully- be enough to deter the nightmares sure to come with sunfall.
âAnyway, heâs good. What about Donna?â
Cassie let her head fall back between her shoulder blades with a groan, closing her eyes against the glaring midday sun.
âUgh, donât remind me. I love her to pieces, but honestly? I can see why my mom has so many grey hairs. Diana is lucky sheâs perpetually young and perfect and thus doesnât need to deal with stress lines. If this is what I was like when she trained me, I have a lot to apologize for. Starting, but not limited to, our days in Young Justice. We did so many stupid things back then.â
âSo, the Titans are a riot?â
âThey are a bad influence, and I hate how they taught Donna to disobey when I tell her to go to safety and let me do the fighting, but honestly, itâs so much like looking at our past, I canât help but want to wrap them up in a blanket and wish them luck.â
âI wish you luck. This is why I refuse to take a younger hero under my wing. Too much responsibility.â
âYou are a weak bitch. Even Bart is mentoring someone. We have to nourish the younger generation, Kon. Think of the children.â
âYou are nineteen, stop talking like you just turned seventy.â
âWell, Cissie is retired. Itâs not such a stretch.â
âIâll tell her you said sheâs old.â
âDonât you dare.â
After those first few hiccups, the rest of the afternoon went smoothly. Uncharacteristically restrained of them, no food fight ensued, but even so it was a pretty fun day. They caught up with each other, teased about past exes and questionable fashion choices, and every silent, solemn moment was endured with joined hands and hearts, a united front against the grief.
Bartâs wet eyes shone, filled with gratitude, when he blew the candles. Cassie caught the exact moment on camera, having learnt the value of getting those precious seconds immortalized forever somewhere other than her own mind.
He kept his wish to himself, but it wasnât really a mystery. Just by the way he glanced at Tim, they could harnett a pretty solid guess.
Heartache was a familiar, almost comforting feeling to her now, but the wave of raw emotion that almost washed her away at Konâs crystalized eyes and Bartâs trembling hands gave her pause. Cassie looked away from them for just a second, giving herself this moment of weakness, and in the fleeting light of sunset, she could have sworn she saw a familiar face, looking over them from the shadow of a tree, smiling fondly.
But it was missing with her next blink, so she just shook her head to dispel any traces of wistfulness and turned back to her boys.
It was in silence that they picked up their stuff. Super speed would have made it a chore of just a millisecond, but none felt the urge to run away, so they took their time, hands brushing and then clutching while they cleaned up this sacred place they had borrowed for the day.
Cassie really needed to thank Damian for coming through for her on this. As much as she had despised the other vigilante in the past, a leftover feeling from Timâs own feud with his older brother, she had learned to forgive and forget. It was, sheâd come to accept, the only way she could move on.
Basket finally full with the blanket, empty plates and chocolate stained napkins (Konâs hand had trembled as he cleaned Bartâs cheek in their leaderâs stead), they stood together, arms around each other with the birthday boy in the middle. One by one, they said their goodbyes. It hurted a little less than the last time they could manage to do this, perhaps helped by the fact Kon hadnât stormed off midway this time.
Cassie smiled. It was sad, it was raw, it was heavy. But it wasnât broken. She-they- werenât broken. A puzzle with a missing piece was incomplete, not shattered.
The hand not around Bartâs shoulders stretched, as Cassieâs finger traced the poem they had Bruce engrave in Timâs tombstone.
âHe was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last forever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now; put out every one,
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood;
For nothing now can ever come to any good.â
The kids that had chosen that poem as immortalization of their grief had been drowning in it, she knew. Had needed a way to let the world know âwe are not okay, weâll never be okay againâ. It was, maybe, what saved them back then.
But she wished she could crouch down in front of those lost, overwhelmed kids and tell them âyou never stop missing him, but you learn to be happy again; and he brings you all together, just like the first timeâ.
So Cassandra Sandsmark, former Wonder Girl (now something more), lets her head fall back, looks at the setting sun and smiles. Because she can. Because sheâs alive, and sheâs gonna fucking smile for him, if its the last thing that she does.
-.-.-.-.-.-.-
The shadows of the coming night hide him, embrace him, want to keep him; he puts a stop to that, letâs himself be kept from wandering eyes but avoids the eternal retaking. Heâs seen that side of the road and is under no hurry to visit it again.
Instead, he watches the young heroes, bathed in light and laughter, sitting around a dead birdâs grave.
He yearns. He wants, more than anything, to go to them. To join them in the warmth, in happiness. To go back to the only home that never felt anything else than welcoming.
But he has work to do; thereâs a new Robin in the streets, and he needs to ensure that what happened to him doesnât happen to this frail, rough around the edges and full of life bird.
He waits until they pick up and leave, before donning his suit and walking in the opposite direction. Hopefully, a time will soon come when he can smile with them again.
But, for now, the Red Hood has a clown to hunt and a criminal underbelly to conquer.

Marinette did not sign up for this pt 3
Part 3 time. part 1 here part two here, ao3 link here  Â
Cass had long since taken to eating at Yan Toh Heen when she was in Hong Kong, where head chef Cheng Wang served her favorite soup, Marinette Soup. Given that Cass often came at odd times and remained a regular whenever she was in town, she had come to know of Shifu Chengâs inspiration, his nieceâs daughter. A girl who reminded Cass of Bruceâs usual adoptees when she first saw her picture, and mentioned it was a good ting her father hadnât begun adopting until the girl was already a toddler. Shifu Cheng had laughed at the time, and mentioned that Cass might be a good influence on her, if she could keep her father from trying to steal his great-niece away that is.
Now Cass was looking at the girlâs picture a bit more critically, and with Bruce and his parents in mind, she wouldnât be surprised if this Marinetteâa young designer who had managed to have two major figures in the industry recognize her by 16 with an apparent knack for helping her local heroesâwas Bruceâs daughter. Her eyes reminded Cass of Thomas Wayneâs from the portraits, and her smile was a lot like Bruceâs when he wasnât hiding anything.
With all this in mind, Cass was already on a plane to find the girl and test out her theoryâto see if Marinette of the Dupain-Cheng Boulangerie was also LadybugâBatman and Bruce Wayneâs daughter.
She did smile when she saw the group chat for âMiddle Kids OnlyâNo Dâs Allowedâ exploded with Jason, Tim and Steph arguing over who would find her first and what the prize would be. It looked like Cass would win at this rate. She was fine with thatâand having a no-questions asked favor from each of the three in the future would be the icing on the cake to meeting their new sister first.
---Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
Marinette has to explain to Adrien a bit of her blow up while they were civilians and out of sight in her room. Tikki and Plagg were napping.
âSo, youâre uhâŚâ she couldnât blame him for the lack of words. She tended to forget (re: ignore) the fact herself most of the time.
âYeah,â Marinette shrugged. âMaman and Papa got me in a closed adoption case, the mother was young.â
â⌠Iâm now picturing a young Batman and canât wrap my brain around it.â
Marinette snorted at that. âIt was before Batman existed.â
Adrien frowned at that, thinking it over as⌠âSo did you everâŚâ
Marinette shook her head. âMy mother warned against it, the note she left for me said it was dangerous to even attempt contacting him.â She ran a hand through her hair as she remembered Maman and Papa letting her read the note not long after her Guardian training began. It was another life entirely. âShe said he was an unfit father, and that she never wanted kids so I was better off not looking for them when I grew up. I never planned toâMaman and Papa were all I ever needed or wanted.â
Adrien smiled at that, grabbing a cookie for himself. âSo what happened?â
Marinette winced. âI, I donât want to talk about it. Long story short, a wild Murder Robin appeared and told me not to contact his family or else, and I promised to steer clear of affiliates so he wouldnât try anything.â
Adrien twitched at that. He knew Marinette and Alya made a few comments about it once upon a time butâŚ
âIs he the one dropping off the weapons and flower threats?â
Marinette looked away, keeping her eyes low.
Adrien tightened his fists. âI see. If he or that family get near you, theyâll have to take on Chat Noir first.â
Marinette huffed at that. âTheyâre the normies that took down the world ending metas, I doubt thereâs much we could do against them chatton.â
Adrien shook his head and jabbed a thumb at his chest. âBlack Cat wielder, destruction incarnate, and the idiot you share a soul with.â He gave her his Chat Noir smile. âThereâs nothing I canât take on.â
       Marinette snorted at that. âChemistry.â
Adrienâs face fell at that. âYou cannot tell me chemical reactions are that easy!â
Marinette smiled at him then. âI can and will say itâChemistry is easier and superior to physics. Kitchen Chemistry is how we get food.â
âAnd physics keeps us from floating off into space.â
âNot studying it. Studying chemistry I get food, physcics is just a headache of formulas on formulas on formulas.â
       âBut the theories!â
With that, the pair fell into their familiar rhythm of banter for the rest for the night.
Tim was crossing French designers in Paris aged 14-20 that own or work at a boutique, online or physical, and turned up a large number of candidates for who Ladybug/the missing Wayne could be.
Babs rolled in on this particular search, and gave him a look. âYou know the Justice League wants us to not to contact her, right?â
Tim made a vague sound of acknowledgement.
âAnd that Bruce probably didnât have a kid at 15, right?â
       âJust covering my bases.â
Babs looked over his search margins. âDid you check Damianâs search history?â
Tim scowled at her. âOf course I did, heâs been doing more through wipes, I couldnât get more than a few scarps of useless code.â
Babs began to grin then. âSo that means I do have a leg-up on you then.â
He didnât even want to know how she knew about the competition. But she wasnât officially in it either (all of the placed their bets down negotiated rules (re: no asking for help from Damian) and agreed the only participants were the four of them). What did Barbra Gordon want out of this?
       Tim paused at that. âWhat.â
Babs grinned at him. Tim remembered why Oracle is the queen of hackers everywhereânothing is safe from her reach.
âHe was particularly taken with a few designers, and one of them happens to be in the range youâre looking for.â
Tim scowled at her. âWhat do you want?â
âYou know that picture of me you took a few years back?â
Tim blinked as that was what she wanted. His âDonât tell The Familyâ insurance.
       âYes.â
âI want your copies of burned, and any you may have floating around returned to me.â
Tim weighed the pros and cons to this. The girl should be in his current data pool. And he does know to use Damianâs search again (tracking Babâs hacks was childâs play now) but she probably deleted mostâif not all ofâher trail. Decisions, DecisionsâŚ
He could just wait to meet the baby bat. But then he would owe Jason a no-questions asked favor if he found her first⌠and he didnât want to know what Jason would use it for. Owing Cass a favor meant family nights with the worst board games or tea parties when he was elbow deep in a mission. A no question favor for Steph was always interesting and usually resulted in Bruce giving them both looks.
Did he want to lose his leverage on Babs, or did he want to avoid the consequences of the bet more?

Chat and Carapace exchanged a quick look when the pair arrived. A nod from Carapace as he trailed after their paling Ladybug was all Chat needed to begin operation Distract the Justice Leaguer Members.
He and Rena Rouge were having the time of their lives. Both were genuine in their admiration of the pair and the work they had done. And they were both eager to learn from themâboth as individuals and what their people knew of the Miraculousâsomething Chat and Rena knew there were large gaps in the history of still. And if they could help out Ladybug with gathering information and ensuring she was given space, well, the pair were down for it.
Chat was asking a confused and mildly frightened Aquaman for combat tips in aquatic situations for future Syren-eqsue akumas.
âSo how do you keep an eye on attacks from all directions? Is it a âfeel the water movementsâ thing? Or is it just something you know how to do from growing up underwater? Could you teach me a few things on itâitâs a weak point that I need to work on.â
Aquaman was quick to agree to help, eager to avoid angering the Black Cat and given Ladybugâs (apparently continued) evasion of Justice League Members, this may be the best way to both prevent the possible apocalypse and ensure Atlantisâ future safety.
Wonder Woman was having an interesting conversation with Miss Sting about the uses for her spinning top and potential ways to work on her use of Venom while Rena asked about the Amazons and was there really an amazon who wielded the Ladybug miraculous? There were no confirmations from Ladybug and the Guardian was impossible to find to ask. Was there a Fox and did they have anything on the Miraculousâ history?
Wonder Woman was quick to supply answers while scanning the area for Ladybug, and noted that the Turtle was missing too.
       âIs Ladybug well?â
Rena and Miss Sting exchanged a look.
Miss Sting stepped forward. âLadybug just needs some space. She isnât willing to risk breaking her promise since certain people do know where she lives.â
Rena tensed at that, a scowl quick to her face as she remembered why Ladybug was absent. âShe canât talk to either of you until Murder Robin,â--Wonder Woman winced at the reminder of the current Robinâs past--âmakes it clear he wonât keep threatening her if she does.â
Chat caught enough of the conversation to join in. âIts also not good to stress her out, especially since its going to be open season soon.â
Miss Sting sighed at the reminder. âApplication and testing season.â
Rena rubbed her forehead. âDonât remind me. Last time Ladybug was so stressed over her workload that the cure was off for a week.â
Wonder Woman and Aquaman exchanged a look.
âAre you stating that stress on Ladybug alters how the Miraculous Cure works?â Aquaman asked cafefully, hoping it wasnât the case.
âYeah,â Chat rubbed the back of his neck. âI figured it always did.â
Wonder Woman shook her head, mind racing as, âNo. Not during Motherâs timeâit must be a side effect of something. May I speak to one of the Guardians?â
Chat didnât even have time to respond. Both adults noted the way his pupils shrunk and body tensed at the question. He knew something the others didnât.
âUh, thereâs only one, and the guy has been radio silent for months now,â Rena explained. âAnd not to be rude, but given the security breaches in the past, I donât think itâs the best thing for our Guardian to be in contact, just in case.â
       âI seeâŚâ
Aquaman was the quick to defuse the situation. âPerhaps one of your sisters could reach out to Ladybug? They are not affiliated with the League so that should lessen her stress.â
Chat nodded along at that. Good. It was better to keep the Destroyer content.
âI can see who Mother would like to send of the historians given the interest in past miraculous wielders,â Diana conceded. âCould you ask Ladybug if that is acceptable?â
The teens grabbed their respective weapons and messaged Ladybug. A moment later the trio stated that Ladybug would agree to those terms.
In the meantime, Chat, Rena and Miss Sting caught the adults up on the Hawkmoth situation and their limitations on investigation. Rena was particularly annoyed by the lack of progress as âOur best suspect was akumatized before Mayura showed up, so he canât be Hawkmoth. But he lives in the target area, has the funds for a butterfly garden and the ability to keep it underground if LBâs theory about artificial sunlight to keep it secret is right.â
âBut we know he canât be, so we should drop it and look for other suspects,â Chat added a bit nervously.
       Miss Sting nodded in agreement.
Rena sighed. âI know, its just, too much adds up on him being Hawkmoth, but then again, that would mean heâd put his own kid in danger just to get the Miraculous. I mean, heâs bad and all butâŚâ Rena shook her head. âLB is right about him making sense but itâs too obvious. I mean, who hides in plain sight, right?â
Wonder Woman made a mental note to find out who this suspect was and maybeâMAYBEâlet the bats do a deep search on this suspect if Rena would name them. He could very well be their villain, but she didnât know enough on this investigation yet to make a call, nor did she have much knowledge on the Butterfly or Peacock miraculous. She only paid attention to the Ladybug and Black Cat legendsâa soul spilt in two, destined to always find one another and willing to do whatever it took to protect the other from self-destructing once they grew close as allies.
--
In Gotham Jason Todd is on a Mission. That mission happens to be meeting the Baby Bat before Timmers or the Waffle Queen herself beat him to it. Cass hadnât responded to any of their texts, so he figured she was knee-deep in Black Bat and forfeited for once. He hoped.
Either way, Red Hood would be tracking a certain Little Lady when he touched down in Paris once his plane took off, and take out whoever this âHawkmothâ was. Magic terrorism is one thing. Targeting kids? Well, that puts you Hoodâs list and high on his priorities real quick. Add threatening his family (estranged, feuding or 'well they're a Bat') to that? Gotham would live without him for a bit.
--
Ladybug is currently holed up with Carapace in one of their hide-y holes on patrol. She has borrowed (re: snagged and is not returning any time soon) Carapaceâs headphones. The music helps her breath. No immediate danger, she didnât (further) break the rules of engagement, and she didnât see any sign of Murder Robin in Paris from news reports.
       âSo, uh, Murder Robin?â
Ladybug wanted to groan. She knew this conversation was coming. âCan you send the others the cliff notes?â
She did not want to do this with each one of them. there are a lot of miraculous users. Besides Chat and Carapace, there was Rena, Miss Sting, Pegasus, Ryuuko, King Monkey, Viperion, and Bunnix. She did not want to have this conversation seven more times.
       âSure thing Ladybug.â
       Ladybug took a deep breath.
       âRemember Incinerater and Goo-Boy?â
Carapace paused, face a bit slack as he nodded his head. âThe first time Mr. Bug appeared, and the day Rena, Sting and me got our miraculous.â
Ladybug nodded. âWell, it lasted so long because my transformation timed out. I couldnât figure out what my lucky charm meantâI didnât know what the kwami box looked like, and a bigger version of the jewelry box I got Tikki in meant nothing to me.â Ladybug sighed, as once again, she realized how much easier it would have been if Fu contacted her and Chat Noir after the first attack, or even during one on their built-in communicators. Just. Something.
       âSo you timed out.â
Ladybug nodded. âAnd I got caught in the building that went down.â
Carapace froze. âMost people were still injured.â
Ladybug winced. âI was. Still. Chat somehow knew to look for my civilian identity and found out I was Ladybug. I thoughtâŚâ Marinette shook her head, pushing old fears of losing Tikki away. Sheâs the Guardian now. Tikki and her are together as long as Marinette remains so. âNevermind. The point is, even after he cast the cure and helped me get home, Goo-boy showed up and Mr. Bug was needed again.â
Carapace put the pieces together. âYou were still hurt. And he left you alone.â
Ladybug ran a hand through her pigtails. âHe had to. I told him to, I figured I could make it the rest of the way.â
Carapace frowned at that. âLBâŚâ He put a hand on her shoulder. âWhat happened?â
Ladybug swallowed a lump. âTiny Murder Robin.â She stiffened a bit, fiddling with her yoyo then. âHe uh, grabbed me, pulled me into a car and held me a sword-point. Not gun point, sword point.â Marinette bleed through then. âWho does that? What kid goes around and says theyâll kill you with a sword at your neck?â
Carapace rubbed her back, keeping her grounded. âI managed to get him to leave since I was âunworthy of the Bat legacyâ and all, discarded and useless.â Marinette shook her head, reminding herself sheâs moved past those feelings, the one that tried to well up in her moments. She was bigger than those thoughts. âHe let me go since I wasnât worth the effort if I didnât know I was Batmanâs daughter.â Marinette kept her eyes on her lap, a nervous hands running through one pigtail vigorously. âI kind of sicced him on the current Robin to save my skin.â
Carapace pulled her in for a hug. She clung back a bit. she didnât have to look at him as he explained the deal. âI promised to not contact Batman or the JL and he agreed to leave me alone. And he did.â
Carapace pulled back. âThatâs not all of it, is it?â
âHe uh, started leaving flowers and some weapon for winter holidays, Easter and my birthday in my roomâŚ.â
Carapace paled at that. âHeâs threatening you.â
       ây, yeahâŚâ
       âSo thatâs whyâŚ.â
       Ladybug nodded.
Carapace hugged her tight. âOne sec, Iâll text the team. Then weâre doing that plan of action you made the rest of us do for when we canât show up.â
       Ladybug nodded.
She noticed a text from the others, asking if sheâd be willing to talk to an Amazonian historian on the history of the Miraculous and learn from her. That⌠wouldnât violate the terms of the agreement, in spirit or wording. She sent her agreement on the terms that none of the sent historians were Wonder Woman or the Queen herself. As cool as meeting Hippolyta would be, Marinette does not want to risk the violation in spirit (family members probably counted to Murder Robin.)
       âDone.â
Ladybug blinked as Carapace turned to her.
âNow what can we do to help?â
Ladybug opened and closed her mouth, running over her options. âJust keep non-miraculous heroes from contacting me, especially in battle. I just...â Ladybug struggled for words. âHe knows where I live. My family.â
Carapace nodded, keeping a steady hand on her shoulder. âCanât risk it, I got youâwe got you.â
After a moment of silence, Carapace spoke. âKeep the team on speeddialâif you donât want everyone on, then at least me, Pegasus and Rena. Rena can distract without getting hurt, I can protect all of us and Pegasus can send him and anyone he works with packing. Monkey probably would want in on this tooâhe is the Distraction King after all.â
Ladybug laughed a little at that. It came out weak. âSure. Chat, heâsâŚâ
âBusy.â Carapace shrugged. âWe all know his dad has him running through hoops to make it to patrol half the time.â
       âYeahâŚâ
(Marinette agreeing to intern with M. Agreste and work on her accessories brand under the Gabriel umbrella did give Adrien more lee-way than he had before, but not by much at first. Ever since her line of scarves based on the miraculous heroes took off last winter, he was given more free reign if it involved Marinette as a designer, not Marinette as his friend and classmate. Adrien was allowed at her house at all hours now without no questions asked on the basis of âMarinetteâs muses have spokenâ. As far as Gabriel was concerned, Adrien was learning more about the designing process and crafting of individual garment and accessories from her, and offering critiques as a model on wear-ability and helping her develop her style as a designer while keeping her âon-brandâ. The fact they mostly goofed off or worked on miraculous-related things together was another matter for another time.)
Ladybug and Carapace stayed like that for a while, until after the JL left. She may have trolled the Monkey tab on the Ladyblog and snorted at someoneâs short of âera 1â Chat running at an akuma while screaming âthis is how I will get Ladybug will love me!â with an âera 2â Chat cringing. âThat. That is how I got Ladybug to baby brother me.â
--Â Â
Dick was wondering where the rest of the bats were during patrol. The night before, it was only him. Something about needing to look into something for the JL on Bruceâs end, and Damian was working on something againâtrying to make up for a past wrong was the most Dick ever got out of him. It was the third year in a row this happened, and around the same time. Apparently needles are part of this apology.
Dick really hopes Damian manages to meet the person face to face this time. He has a feeling the person Damianâs apologizing to might be a civilian by Bat standards, and is probably missing Damianâs message completely. Maybe Dick would check up on him tomorrowâGotham wait for no one and apparently Nightwing is the only responsible Bat at the moment. Thank god for Oracleâs Birds of Prey and the other vigilantes Gothamâs collected over the years. Dick doesnât want to think about what would happen if this happened without them all.

PART FOUR HERE
Thanks for waiting on the update. Working with burned hand so it will take longer for the next installments. Mostly planned for the next chapter but character will do what they want and highjack my writing constantly. Things are moving forward (somewhat) on the Bats and JL end, while Miraculous Team stands with their leader, Ladybug, and arenât ready to let Anyone threaten her.
this makes for a set-up for much to go Wrong. Feel free to add to the upcoming chaos or put in things youd like to see happen in the comments or by messaging me.Â
