their hairdresser is so talented (i'm not surprised, gotta be the best of the best to work with the best with the best š„ŗ) , it's hard to imagine how jungkook's cute and small bowl cut could become as different and stylish as in the SNTY performance video with Usher
soooo true, I'd love to get an insight into a professional k-pop stylist's/ mua's/ hairdresser's techniques and process, this stuff is so interesting to me, it's really an art form in itself!
#I focus on all the visuals a lot#they've been using the same hairspray since the beginning for instance haha the light blue one with white writing#but I must say their hair styling is either nonexistent or sooo well done it's always a hit or miss situation for me#e.g. I didn't like how they styled jimin's hair for most of MUSE#man bleached his hair and then they did nothing with it sigh#I mean compare it to dynamite era blond jimin that was crazy good#anon#annie's mail

"No Straight Roads X Rhythm Heaven - BOSS RUSH Custom remix pack | Heaven studio"
So, it looks like someone beat me to getting all the songs remade in Heaven Studio XP, but I still think it's cool to see someone else's take on it~ (The thumbnail art goes so hard~)
And with Heaven Studio sniped off the web, and thus probably putting a halt on updates for the foreseeable future, I probably won't be finishing my mixes anytime soon since they depended on games that weren't implemented yet.
So, if I ever want to finish my own project, I'm probably gonna have to suck it up and swap out more of the games.
*sigh* Vs. 1010 just isn't gonna be the same without Freeze Frame...
#nsr#no straight roads#rhythm heaven#heaven studio#nintendo#i like this#def worth a watch#their visuals are a lot more cinematic than mine#and i think they focus more on matching the actual rhythm of the songs#while mine have a stronger focus on harmonizing with them#because they were made as audio mixes first and playable second#so even if i do finish converting my mixes#i think there'll still be a reason for both to exist#also. i know freeze frame was in the last nightly build but it wasn't complete and is kinda buggy#video#Youtube#ya know the one that throws me off the most is vs. eve#because for the most part our mixes are very different#but that's the one song where we use almost all of the same games#(I even used clap trap to replace my bossa nova segments XP)#so when a part shows up where we had the same game but different execution it throws me a bit

Something that always annoys me is the idea only 1 language learning method works. Which is not true. While it may be possible that, for a particular individual, only a few out of many study methods may work well enough for That Individual to make progress and stay motivated... that doesn't mean all the other study methods won't work for anyone else out there, or that those few methods will work for every other given person.
Obviously if you've been studying a while, then you already figured out what kinds of things work for you and don't. If you're a beginner, just wading into studying?
I would suggest you simply look for study methods that: 1. Teach you new things regularly, 2. Review and practice things you've learned, 3. Include studying things you need for your particular goals (for example if your goal is to read X book then the study materials at some point should involve reading practice and some words the book contains, if your goal is to talk about Y then the study materials should include some information about pronunciation and words you'll need to be able to say).
As you can imagine, a TON of study materials will meet these requirements. And you can study a given skill in a LOT of ways.
(Reading is my focus lol so just for reading, a beginner might: do vocabulary study with lists or conversations with native speakers or watching shows and looking words up or listening to dialogues with a transcript like in a textbook or graded readers or a picture book with word labels in the target language or a video game with labelled objects in target language, all of those things as long as your vocabulary is improving or reading practice is happening would help you make progress). So to improve reading skill as a beginner: you could study with a textbook, a podcast with transcript, a classroom or tutor with words written down in target language (like TPRS), a video game, a TV show and a translate app on your phone, a friend you talk with (who either writes words down or you look up words you hear with a translate app), a friend you text with, srs flashcards like anki (provided there's text) etc. As long as there's new words, and/or you're practicing reading, the study method may work. If it works will come down to if you can stay motivated doing it regularly, and make sure you regularly learn some new things and review/practice things you've already studied.
So consider those things when you see people selling a study method as a product (especially when it's costing you money). Consider if it teaches you NEW things, and are those new things related to your goals, and how MUCH new stuff will it teach you before you finish it? Consider if it provides review or practice, or if you can use it's materials to review on your own making up your own method, or if you'll need to do separate review/practice.
So examples:
LingQ. Can it teach you many new words? Yes, thousands, since you can import any texts you want when you get done with their provided material (I have no idea how much their beginner material covers though in terms of words... I would hope 1000-3000 words but that can be researched). Is your goal reading? It's suited to reading, so you will practice and review often with it. Cost? I think it was $12 a month when I last had it, and the price may have increased. Is it worth it? Depends on a learner's needs. I found it was wasting my money, so I chose to use free tools like Pleco and Readibu apps - since those apps are suited for Chinese learners and have better translations, Pleco has better paid graded reader material if I was going to spend money, and both Pleco and Readibu let me import texts so I can learn thousands of new words just like LingQ but free. Now that I'm not a beginner, I often use Microsoft Edge to read chinese... since I can still click-translate words easily (all my web browsers have that tool free), and Edge's TTS voice is helpful for pronunciation and sounds quite good. I read webnovels online so Edge works well. But it's translations aren't as good as Pleco or Readibu, so if I still needed translations more I would use them. So... is LingQ a good study method? Its certainly a study method marketed to buy. Well... the method is suited to improving reading skill, at least. It costs money, which is a negative, but it does offer a lot. However: everything it does regarding reading can be done free with other apps or sites or web browsers on their own. So if paying money motivates you to read... sure. LingQ does have a few word tracking features a learner may find worth the money, keeping in mind the actual read-to-learn method can be done free without lingq. (Also... while LingQ is a valid option for improving reading, if the learners goal is speaking then it would be important to think of what study activities the learner will do OUTSIDE of LingQ to improve speaking... because I've seen how LingQ is marketed as "how to learn a language" but it's only focused on some skills. It has vocabulary and grammar in some sense, since you'll read a lot and encounter new words and structures. But it doesnt have speaking or writing practice at least last time I was on it. Those activities would need to be worked on, on your own).
You can do that kind of cost/benefit contemplating with any study method material you see being sold. Amother example: there's a beginner Mandarin course called Mandarin Blueprint. It teaches like 800 words. Thats all. It may be worthwhile for a beginner... who still needs to learn 800 common words. But if you already know a few hundred words, the benefit of the course is less, you'll need to find a new material to teach you more new stuff soon. And the price was like a few hundred for the course... which for me personally was too much to spend, when I had already learned 800 hanzi from a book that cost me 12 dollars and 2000 words from a free user made memrise deck. The course claimed to get a person speaking, competent, but anyone not a beginner would say speaking basically with 800 words is nowhere near the level of working in Chinese or just doing a lot of daily life stuff, or reading/listening to media. (Although for the motivated beginner if you're learning 800 words on your own like I was, its definitely close to the point of jumping to learn more words and start reading kids and teenager books, and watching easier shows if you're willing to look new words up). So to me... Mandarin Blueprint felt like overselling some basic beginner materials. (Again when I know several other things that teach beginner stuff either more in depth so HSK test prep classes, and college courses, or that teach beginner stuff to the same depth as Mandarin Blueprint but free).
Some study materials aren't going to act like they teach everything. I've seen chinese courses just for learning to speak tones better and general pronunciation - probably worthwhile if your goal is to improve speaking and a teacher could help improve the issues your having. But a learner needs to be aware for that course that they'll need to study vocabulary on their own, its JUST a pronunciation improvement course.
#rant#i saw a lot of comments on forums yesterday thinking automatic language growth alg was like snake oil#aka a scam. but it can be done for free (free lessons online) and for people who#learn well from visual context and guessing (i learn well that way) the lesson style DOES result in learning new words and grammar#so provided you can find ALG type free lessons that teach 1000+ words (ideally 3000+ words) then you will learn#enough grammar and words to then move onto native speaker content to continue studying. so all free#i have not seen yet how ALG helps students with speaking or writing yet though. so i can only say it for sure improves passive skills#specifically listening with new words and grammar. and listening translates to reading if you practice that on your own#even just with subtitles or podcast transcripts.#the issue for me is can i find alg courses that teach a thousand words in a timely manner (and free if thats my personal requirement)#i think Dreaming Spanish and Comprehensible Thai do have enough free courses to teach 1000+ words#so those ones would get you to possibly intermediate b1 level in passive listening skill#and then its up to you on if 1 that meets your goal 2 you learn well with that lesson type 3 you are motivated to do the lessons#like... duolingo itself is not completely useless... it teaches 3000 words on most courses (and maybe 1500 common words). the big issue for#me with duolingo is it takes me AGES to complete a lesson and complete a course (years). cause i cant focus on it#whereas with duolingos content... its beginner content. at best it will get Reading skill to A2 or low B1#and maybe other skills if you practice OUTSIDE duolingo with the words and grammar u learned.#so getting to A2 vocab shouldnt take me more than a year to learn (based on how i study). i can learn it in 6 months if i#just study a wordlist on paper and a grammar guide online. so since duolingo takes me 4 times LONGER to study than the other methods i use?#duolingo is a waste of my time. not worth it (and it markets itself as if it will get a learner to B2 when it wont. and it markets#as if 1 lesson a day is all you need. to make progress in 6 months in duolingo like my wordlist study...#you'd need to be doing duolingo 1-3 hours a day... which duolingo does not tell u to do. and most learners dont

finally finished all of one character's entire quests/optional dialogue/questions/etc.... 100,000 words... .... aughhh
#Given some of it IS lines of code and stuff but like.. minus all that it's still probably at least 85 - 95k words hhhhhh#AND I have to do this for another 3 characters. Then a few partial quests for 3 others. THEN the other random misc stuff in the game#(like there are public areas in the city like a park and a forest that you can go and do a few things at. and chat with a few random#townsfolk that aren't actually full characters or anything. And there's a community board where you can#browse some of the random job advertisments or silly things that happen to be posted around#and also pick up a few odd jobs of your own to help earn coin to buy gifts for the npcs. etc. etc.)#Originally I was thinking like 'ah I'll make a short little game just to try it out! :3 It'll take maybe a few months!''#haha........................hee hee........................................hoho#Also evil that it would have been done already if I didn't totally drop itand stop working on it for like 5 years randomly#i could have made 5 years of steady slow progress gradually. instead of like 'one initial idea dump + about a month of art and writing'#...... 5 year break..... 'sudden mad dash to try to get probably 400.000 words written in a year or less' lol#I just really want to be done and have something out there already so it can lead to doing other things in my world..!!!!!! T o T#Like this can be an introduction and then maybe from that I can make other games. or short story anthologies. or other such things#But there needs to be some initially not very complex easy to interact with starting point first I guess... if that makes sense#That's part of why I stopped posting worldbuilding lore dump stuff as often because its' like.. massive walls of novella length#text are much more inacessible to engage with than like.. ooh a game! and there's characters! so its more approachable! and theres#visuals! oo! and the text is broken up in small bits line by line with other things in betwen! oo! etc. etc. lol#Not that THIS is even very accessible. I think dialogue heavy interactive fiction/visual novel type stuff is pretty niche and considered#boring or tedious compared to something with more ''gamplay'' like where you can actually move around in a world#and shoot things or whatever lol. But its an inbetween point. something SLIGHTLY#more accesible for now. Since i just dont have the budget or means or ability to make some skyrim type thing obviously LOL#Though maybe if theres any interest in the visual novel that could lead to making other things too. or at least I hope. I have a VERY cool#idea for a more ''gamey'' type of game that is a super fun concept and etc. but I would need to hire at least 2 people to make it.. ough..#I could do all the writing and probably half of the art. But I think I'd inevitably need a 3d artist and someone who can Code For Real hbjh#the system for ren'py (the thing I'm making a visual novel in) is not that complicated if you stick to just simple dialogue and stuff.#Making a whole moderately sized 3d game with minigames in it and a bunch of quest features and etc. would be out of my simplistic scope#''just learn it yourself!!' ... i barely manage to eat and sleep reliably every day lol... i do not function well enough to spend months#learning that many new skills. I already have a lot of of things I'm good at (not in a braggy way but just factually like.. i already have#a wide variety of different things under my belt).. at some point I have to just be happy with what i CAN already do and focus on that#and admit I need to get outside help sometimes ghjbh... NO more new skills/hobbies!!! ... ANYWAY

maybe its JUST me but I hate how often ninjago has to rely on "world-ending evil" each season, because seriously how can you go higher than that in the next season?
#like mhnnn...#i love the dr finale but idk even if the season was building to it#i just thought those stakes for the FIRST SEASON were a bit odd bc what next even ??#also not a huuge fan of how quickly it was resolved#like ik they wanted to focus on a lot in the finale and set stuff up#and the s2 setup was FAR better than the s1 part 2 setup#but the 2 finales follow such a similar formula to a point where I kinda can't unnotice it#like you have ninja figthing imperium#sora using her powers to beat the empress#the ninja back at the monastery again discussing stuff about what happened and all#in fact the two scenes are so visually similar i feel like if I lied and collected screenshots from both scenes and said they were the same#-scene#some ppl would believe me#also it ends with the super mystery cliffhanger and all#good finale but idk i wish it was a biit of a bigger break from the s1a finale#ninjago#ninjago dragons rising#ninjago spoilers#raine's rambles

Maaan I love the optimistic advice "keep practicing and you'll get better at art" as much as the next artist, but it always rubs me the wrong way when that evolves into "just keep practicing and you WILL 100% succeed and CAN get into the industry."
It changes from good general advice to implying you're just doing something wrong if still haven't "made it" yet. Not in the industry? Well, you just haven't worked hard enough, obviously, as if there aren't plenty of other factors that play into "succeedingā in a highly competitive industry like art.
Donāt let advice thatās supposed to be encouraging turn into something discouraging š
#thereās a lot more to worming your way into the art industry than just. studying art real hard and working your bones off#hard work only gets you so far.#a lot of āsuccessā also starts at childhood and that goes for any industry#having supportive family and even better if theyāre financially supportive#good early education. good physical and mental health. the ability to focus and do the same task over and over for hours#good social skills- because networking gets you a lot further than pure talent alone.#growing up in a convienaint location to even network at all. or the power to travel to such a location.#natural talent puts you ahead. brains work differently so itās ignorant to pretend natural talent isnāt a thing#some take to a skill faster than others because their brain comes out more wired for it. so their skills develop easier and faster#music never came to me. I canāt hear the tone of my own voice most of the time. I DID study music and take mystic classes as a teen#itās insulting to be banged over the head with āif you study music youāll start to get it.ā Iām 28#I know myself and have tried during an age which music is easier to learn and yet I did not. I donāt have talent for it- my brain doesnāt-#-grasp it. the same with any art. some will struggle more to learn visual art āgood enoughā for the industry#and implying that they just donāt get it yet becasue they havenāt tried hard enough is insulting#you can always get better. always always!! but sometimes grinding is justā¦ grinding. fruitless and painful#I failed algebra twice as a teen. I couldnāt understand punnet squares till my 20s.#saying work harder and youāll become a math professor would be insulting. implying I never tried to learn at all.#implying that even tho I took tutoring multiple times that maybe. if I just took one more. poor id suddenly be more able.#people work hard and it just clicks and 10 years later youāre in a great art industry jobā¦ youāre not the rule. youāre the exception#ugggh sorry :p just frustrated. sometimes people just donāt realize the kind of luck theyāve had in life and it irritates me

one of the things that particularly pisses me off about art discussions, either in how nowadays everything has to aim for more and more realism in art styles and even live action to be seen as "real art", and in dismissing more abstract styles of artwork as not "real art" and having no inherent worth, is that they explicitly do not consider realism an art style either. to them, realism is just a given of "good" art, not chosen but rather just default. which i hate, because you CAN pick realism as an intentional style and a purposeful choice to suit a narrative, and all this results in is no one noticing or understanding why you made that choice or why that choice works better than any other possible choice to tell the story you want to tell.
#all the care guide says is 'biomass'#like i like realism because i have a heavy focus on anatomy as a theme#on the body as something innately complex and with a lot of feelings to have about it in all its messy ugly states#im interested in all the complex ways the body intersects with its environment and with culture and with other people#as the outside as contrasting the inside or serving as a strange reflection of it#like im kind of going for a lot of merfolk designs to not be particularly visually different from each other#they have incredibly similar silhouettes and thats on purpose#i want all of their differences and visual traits to be things that they would find more prominent#but we would struggle to pick apart without learning about them deeper and committing these to knowledge#because thats so much been my experience with trying to tell different individuals of the same species of wild animal apart#and i want to use that as a lens to then discuss how humans would then interact with an entirely different sapient species#and what happens when you are someone who experiences that#of someone else not recognizing you as individuals like you do each other#of them not even trying to adapt or learn your differences#what damage it does when this happens to you#and how much the world opens up when someone actually does learn these little differences#but of course#no one else recognizes this because everyone just thinks realism is the default#realism cannot be a purposeful choice done for a reason#realism is just What You Are Supposed To Do and Unevocative Of Deeper Meaning

I do this thing where, when I'm focusing too hard, I'll tense up and vibrate slightly. And I've done it forever but istg I'm giving myself a headache from the amount I'm doing it while drawing rn.
#it happens a lot when i visualize or inspect something I'm drawing#and i used to do it intensely when my sister would play minecraft#or i have this thing where i like seeing random spaces filled -like the end screen in fall guys that shows all the characters that have died#i find it satisfying but to picture it i have to vibrate#anyway ow#JESUS I STARTED PROOFREADING THE POST AND 2 WORDS IN IM DOING IT AGAIN#theres nothing to focus on

for research purposes how tall would you say Narry is....
ooh i've been asked this before! my answer hasn't really changed (mostly because i'm still painfully indecisive): it's still something i feel like he can and does change whenever he wants to bolster his ego. he makes himself subtly taller depending on if he's trying to appear intimidating. that doesn't change with the scarf-arms either, he just raises himself up more dramatically now. to his credit it does look kinda cool.
but if i were to give him a spectrum of common heights, maybe... around 180 to 185 cm (or 5"11 to 6"1 in ft)? and then whatever he does to become a looming vaguely eldritch entity, but that's probably ridiculous and impractical for small spaces ;; lmao
#ney's chatter (ask answers)#i'll be honest with you here i don't keep these things consistent at all#i always focus more on his personality/visual design#but i don't often draw a lot of characters together so putting them to scale is. difficult.#and all the chibi versions are around the same height for sanity's sake#i do love when people draw their narry being shorter than stanley though it's a great aesthetic

wait. ok. hold on.
#i wonder if my struggling to focus on books is part of my struggle with focusing on visual things#i wonder if maybe i should have been listening to audiobooks all along#this changes the game ?#well. i'll have to experiment#also. just maybe. if i'm lucky. fixing my vision problems might make it easier to write descriptions and draw settings?#i've always said i wasn't a visual person and now it makes so much more sense#another interesting thing the doc said was that my brain showed signs of hyperactivity even though i don't present any at all#she posited that i might be channeling all that extra energy into making up for all the other shit my brain tries to pull#since i scored well on persistence#if we can fix this maybe i'll have energy#i love this doctor sm she's so confident that this is something she can fix#she talked about how important it is to her that she's able to help all her patients#that she put a lot of her own money into making sure her services are affordable#i am in good hands. i truly believe this.#dear diary#anyway if u have audiobook recs u can leave a comment :3

It's a typical situation when I start wondering why some piece of tv or film media looks so good visually. I check online.
*shot on film*
WELL, OF COURSE
YOU CAN'T FAKE THAT MARVELLOUS GRAIN
#i can always tell#not to say digital is bad! every format has it's place#i would say film on film for things to have more focal depth so for productions that have a lot of wide shots and slower more static scenes#to add that extra visual oomph#BUT if you want dynamics and appreciate the glossy sleek look plus your production is character-driven i think it's great to use digital#character-driven as in with a lot of focus on actors' movement and faces#i feel like with classic film the focus is fuzzier the actors kind of melt with the set design which isn't bad sometimes you want that!#but if you want the corners to ve extra sharp digital is your best friend#IT'S ALL OBSERVATION BTW#I have zero practical knowledge on the subject#i just watched a lot if stuff#it's not about what script focuses on it's about camerawork these things are separate

TUMBLR DIDN'T NOTIFY US THAT YOU RESPONDED WE THINK
anyway first up our favorite children: Spontaneous Combustion (iterator), The Inspector and The Wisp (slugcats) and . the scavengers we sent before are tied to these guys
Spontaneous Combustion is so... He's a calm and relaxed iterator, in a decent good state, and if you bring him pearls he will read them and infodump all he knows about em. He's unfortunately got an issue where his neurons are a bit volatile, so when they're taken outside his can they tend to explode, and if they're disturbed too much he gets REALLY BAD migraines. And there's a tribe of scavs that keep breaking into his superstructure to steal his neurons. and disturbing them. That's why they have the slugcats! They made the inspector to fend off the scavengers, and the wisp was a gift from someone in his local group, to give the inspector company! The two work to calm his neurons when they're too disturbed and get rid of his migraines.
big post about him
uhh. we've got more we could ramble about but that'd make the ask SO big so we'll send you more ocs in a different ask another time. for now... settling with sending you Irrelevant Choices.
deltarune iterator!!!!! kris made em after finding out we had the name laying around. not suuuper fleshed out lorewise but us n kris are workin on it! They've got a little lantern maus....
OOO THESE ARE SO NEAT!!!!!!
Looking so respectfully...
The neuron migraines are actually super interesting, like. Cuz those are the iterators braincells and if there'd something wrong it'd make sense that they'd hurt.
I like Irrelevant Choices name and scheme, seems super fitting for Kris! And also just. Listen .im a complete sucker for star designs. Literally all of my sonas have a star design on them.
