dream journal post approximation of orin based on orins orinposting in spinoff gow game where faye lived instead of kratos. faye was more beefy and had darker red hair. in fact girl im pretty sure that was aloy. freya (probably) also there. two female main characters and son boy allowed. he disappears halfway thru and we find out after orin kills her shit ass dad (she had kind of a titan watcher maiden look before, then went bhaalist beast mode, also had a cool stoneform) for killing her mom via turning her into a little rock statue and smashing her on the ground (lore incorrect, this is a lexapro dream) that atreus is alive. but first we get a cool sequence of orin climbing her hanging clones out of the boss fight chamber. does not try to kill faye and freya* (*might not be freya. skadi or valkyrie. lore incorrect) but we find out atreus has basically had part of his soul j'fucked up by orins shit ass dad in the attempt to preserve and in the future bhaalify him. and so hes turned basically into a doll with canned string pull responses and no memory except like 5 scattered from early childhood up thru the first norse gow.) harrowing scene of faye on her knees asking loki how old he is. and he's like "2 and a half 😶"

Deeply love twink sherlock holmes in chapter one and the awakened. I appreciate how he liked his imaginary friend to call him Sherry. How he still calls for Jon (and in a way, himself, for help). I love that he calls for Watson and made a friend he can Trust even when his grip on reality is going to hell. And John Watson is such a good goddamn friend, he protects Sherlock against Mycroft, calls Mycroft out directly, and oh man is he a good friend. A real family made type of friend. I love that this version of Sherlock has genuine mental health struggles, its acknowledged, and I like how it influences the cards Mycroft tries to push and and showcases the respect Watson has for people (and less front and center but always present, informs how compassionate Sherlock is for people who suffer at the hands of professionals who don't know how to treat or pueposely abuse - he already had a propensity to be kind, and care for victims, this additional backstory trait just adds that he can relate personally and tends toward noticing how vulnerable people can become to danger when in situations without power over their own lives). I like that Chapte One made some bold fucking writing choices, basically writing their own version of the Sherlock character by deciding to make their own origin story for him. And then to continue using those characterizations (grown and developed but from initialized from unique backstory) to do more with that characterization, continue to evolve it and utilize it. I really appreciate those choices. They're interesting. They do deviate this version of Sherlock from other versions to a greater degree, but also add something unique to this one which at least for me emotionally resonates. I appreciate that The Awakened does not ignore Chapter One, but as a full "new interpretation" in a way, remembers cordona, remmebers Violet, remembers Sherlock's struggle to find closure, his grief, his family pains, and continues to recognize how those choices would keep informing how he experiences things, how he grows.

I've been thinking a lot about my problem with metas and I've probably figured out one of the reasons I'm struggling to get my metas to a larger audience.

Most posts people call "meta" that I stumble across are speculation pieces, based on vibes or are just the op heavily projecting themselves into their favourite character while disregarding actual facts. Or someone just brazenly makes up stuff that has no actual basis in canon but they discuss it in a way that it seems plausible if you don't think about it too deeply. Then there's also the kind of post that I call the "pseudo-scientific approach" because it reminds me of astrology, like, "this character has a warm personality because they were born in summer in a warm climate".

Before I made this account, I did some extensive research on YOI and found dozens of excellent metas that were evidence-based and written by people who obviously put a lot of thought into their writing. People who knew how to analyse a piece of fiction and discuss their findings. I was excited because they were exactly down my alley. It was one of the reasons why I came here. However, most of those posts had been written during the first year after YOI aired.

I rarely ever see these things anymore. What I see instead is the above-mentioned speculation, making up things and selling them as the ultimate truth. And while I'm not in the position to tell people what they should write about, I'm not interested in engaging with these at all. I'm interested in facts and in getting to the bottom of things, but this craft seems to have died out.

I really miss the academic discussions. I wish I had been there back then.

This shift does not only concern what fans want to write about, it also impacts what fans want to read because it's what moves them. And then it's no longer surprising that the academic discussions went out of fashion.

(Also, I can't be the only one who finds it concerning that spreading certain ideas will give people who don't question the information they digest a distorted idea of canon. In many cases that will be harmless, for course, but I'm not a fan of spreading misinformation no matter in which space. Even in fandom that can have disastrous effects as we've seen with the toxcitiy of the MAPPA haters for instance)

started reading the half-life of valery k--so far so good--, and it did something that i really appreciate in books, which is telling us early on those physical characteristics of the main character that the author considers pertinent to know. chapter one, and boom, he looks in a mirror, hair is red. good! that's good to know! because if you had told me he was a redhead any later than chapter one i would have thrown my kindle into outer space. this is an author that cares for their readers.
