Idk who needs to hear this, but calling media something that “only straight teenage girls like” is oftentimes straight up misogyny (and usually homophobia) disguised as the most basic, safe level of pseudo-feminist allyship there is. The AUDACITY to play that card and pretend to care about women and the LGBTQ community all the while actively shutting down queer people’s experiences and the lens through which queer people view media, basically calling us “delusional” and shitting on the idea that a mainstream show like ST could offer actually fleshed out, accurate representation of a queer experience. As though those Redditors aren’t themselves cishet grown adult men who project their own masculinity complexes onto Mike.
If anyone pulls the “it’s for straight teenage girls” card to justify shitting on something, all the while hailing and having no issue with something that primarily caters to cishet white men, it’s not allyship, it’s just misogyny and queerphobia lmao. Like, not them deluding themselves into thinking that Byler isn’t something incredibly beautiful and important to hundreds of thousands of queer people, just so they can justify hating on it and actively silencing queer peoples’ experiences. “Byler is for straight teenage girls” mmkay but are you not a straight white adult man??? Why is that better??? Lmao.

I mean…. if bigoted statements don’t contribute to the plot or add to the character, it’s undoubtedly because these statements align with the author’s beliefs. If we’re using Beagin (who wrote Big Swiss) as an example, she also had no way to excuse her racism during a book club Q&A. Straight up tried to gloss over it, which shows that it had no purpose.
I disagree that casual racism is a necessary evil for “morally grey” characters because it depends on the writer’s purpose and intention. Satire is when a character does something that’s clearly wrong, and they eventually experience a comeuppance as a result. More often than not, there are “straight men” characters who expose how terrible these characters arethey’re being.
Moreover, writers create good satire when they acknowledge their potential biases. When this is not the case, they deserve to be fairly critiqued.
In the case of this Instagram post, I would strongly agree that unfounded bigotry is not necessary. In particular, it does not add to the plot of Big Swiss. The reason why it’s there is because the author wants it to be there.
Overall, it’s disappointing to see someone discredit a person of color who expanded upon something that rightfully makes them uncomfortable. We don’t voice these thoughts for fun. Being irresponsible with your platform as a writer is reckless, especially now.
so, i saw this post on instagram and my response is just the hardest disagree ever... you want characters who are morally black, or unhinged, or problematic, but you don’t want them to do, say, or think truly problematic, prejudiced things? listen, you cannot call for unlikeable characters in media who only do tasteful evils like murder but not uncomfortable evils like racism or hate speech. you cannot call for novels with characters who are acknowledged to be problematic and at the same time demand only a socially acceptable and clean form of problematic behavior. the reality of messy, problematic characters isn’t to have the reader root for or against these characters or even internalize their ideas. the point of these problematic characters is to reveal the harshness and complexity of the world, not to reinforce moral or political ideals. you cannot explore the truth of society and people in books if you will only accept characters who are sanitized of reality.

A lot of the pro-veilguard arguments I see include a very specific way of viewing what “dark fantasy” is which misses the entire point as to why there are criticisms about the overall tone of the game.
Dark fantasy is not just “how much murder rape bigotry and overall suffering can we put in a story for the sake of doing so”.
It’s about having events and themes based off of the darker parts of reality and then, as the player, being able to do something about it. The general appeal is the catharsis. It’s about seeing these stories reflected through an interactive story in a meaningful, respectful, purposeful way.
Is dragon age the poster child for handling its complicated, real-life-inspired politics well? No. But veilguard was somehow worse. The bar was in hell and it still tripped flat on its face.
Veilguard’s lackadaisical, chronically ironic “well THAT just happened”, neutered writing and theme is not a good argument as to why this is a good dragon age game, and you can’t blame the dark fantasy genre for it.

absolutely wild to me that people are genuinely saying “if Jews didn’t want antisemitism they shouldn’t have been Bad Jews” as if Israel represents all Jewish people or moreso that bigotry is ever justified. if someone can’t call out what the Israeli government is doing to Palestinians without being antisemitic they’re just a bigot. plenty of people have been able to do so, antisemitism is not inevitable. all people like that seem to do is harm everyone involved, Jewish people and Palestinian people. you’re not helping any kind of liberation with that.
People really cannot handle separating the government of Israel from Jews in general. People also had a hard time disconnecting Al Qaeda and ISIS from Islam, so I mean, I'm not surprised they can't do it here, either.
I'm on the side of the citizens. ALL of them. Everyone living in this region, regardless of nationality or religion. I am on their side. I want the government of Israel AND Hamas to lay down arms. But after that, to be honest, a huge weight does lay on the government of Israel to begin undoing decades of harm it has caused.
Netanyahu and his administration are absolutely committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. They have spent years abusing Palestinians. They've just ordered all people in north Gaza to "evacuate" to south Gaza within 24 hours. That's over 1 million people. That's impossible. They've cut off power and water and travel. It's inhumane. It's a war crime. Hands-down.
Hamas, on the other side, is just as genocidal - they just don't have as much power to enact it. They are holocaust deniers, they are openly antisemitic, they want all Jews in Israel gone or dead. Just because they claim they're "fighting for Palestinians" doesn't make them morally right. They are rapists, murderers, and kidnappers. They enforce Sharia law. They have also committed war crimes by attacking civilians.

This is related to this post which is so on point it hurts. I wasn’t going to write this but yet another one of my mutuals had someone be super racist again directly to their asks so here we go.
I go super hard on the Veilguard positivity a lot not out of an urge to stan for BioWare but because parts of the fandom have gotten so unbelievably toxic I’m not even sure why they’re still playing the games. Legit if you’re actively in mourning about this franchise because of a, at worst, competent game you need to find something else to do. I have been told I don’t know how many times I just don’t like “critique” of Veilguard which is fecking hilarious and I should show you my dm’s. You’re not actually showing “love” for the DA franchise when you’re overly negative and reductionist.
We absolutely should be able to critique Veilguard and I do attempt to do this from time to time. But to be honest we can’t even discuss the actions of the antagonist in an honest way. It is actually laughable how far away from the source people have gone when analyzing this game and its characters. It might be my favorite game in the series but that in no way makes it perfect or flawless and I’m aware. Not gonna share the critiques here cause y’all can’t handle the base plot of the game without bullying other fans.
I keep seeing people complain about the lack of fan engagement and fanworks while directly being the reason artists and writers don’t want to be anywhere near the space. Again if you’re not commenting or reblogging or otherwise supporting other creators in the fandom you are the problem I’m talking about. If you’re being super vitriolic then yeah, no one wants to make stuff for you for free. They’re too afraid or exhausted and we are all culpable, myself included.
The media literacy problem, the bigotry, and the lack of engagement are all related issues and until the most vitriolic amongst us reckon with that nothing will get better. And yeah, if you’re going super hard against a game that stands this hard by its queer, disabled, and POC characters that’s a huge red flag. Unpack it. Offline. Away from the marginalized members of your fandom.

Part 1: The Good Ending
If the writers wanted CaitVi to be their canon OTP so damn bad, they had two ways of going about it:
THE BAD, TRAGIC ENDING:
While Caitlyn still loses herself to her grief and rage and becomes a fascist dictator, her fall from grace is much slower and fleshed out.
She still has her moment in the gardens where she admits to Jayce she understands how easy it is to hate [Zaunites], though she acknowledges those thoughts aren’t right (“I know, I know” she tells him as the fight goes out of her). The same goes for her seething to Vi after the attack on the memorial, “What kind of animals!” The seeds are there. A few days’ romp through Zaun with Vi isn’t going to undo a lifetime of learned classism, bigotry, and a sheltered, privileged worldview, even if she has a good heart.
Instead of springing the badge on Vi when they reunite in her home, she does it after the memorial attack, when it becomes clear that Piltover will be taking military action in Zaun.
Vi reacts poorly, of course. Rather than Caitlyn phrasing it as “you can show [Piltover] not everyone supports Jinx” because that is incredibly stupid when she says Jinx is a rogue agent at the beginning of the episode, she comes at it from the angle of harm reduction. They can’t stop the enforcers from going into Zaun on a manhunt for Jinx, but they can catch Jinx as quickly as possible and limit the amount of innocents caught in the crossfire if they (Caitlyn) are in charge of the mission. Between Vi’s knowledge of Zaun and Jinx, and Caitlyn’s resources as a Kirammen, they can fix things before they get really bad. (And Caitlyn gets justice for her mother in the process.)
Intentional or not, this makes Vi’s guilt issues even worse, because Caitlyn had the shot and would have stopped all of this from happening by killing Jinx - if not for Vi pleading with her. In an echo of Vander’s words, she internalizes the blame for the fallout and suffering about to come down on Zaun. It’s her fault for creating Jinx and preventing Caitlyn from stopping her.
So Vi takes the badge so she can “fix her mistake”. And just as in canon, it looks gross and wrong for her to wear that uniform.
**Extremely, extremely important to note that Caitlyn doesn’t weaponize the Grey to start. The thought of doing so doesn’t even exist yet. And with her team and Vi’s knowledge, she is confident they will catch Jinx.
Except they don’t.
Every avenue is a dead end. Tensions rise as Piltover demands to know Jinx is dead, so it can sleep easy at night. Zaun doesn’t take kindly to a militarized strike force stomping through its streets, especially once they learn Vi is one of them.
And so bit by bit, Caitlyn compromises on her morals. Holds the threat of Stillwater over people’s heads. Acts on that threat. Is rougher and more threatening with suspects and criminals. It’s all justified in her mind.
She has to do this; otherwise, things will get so much worse if the full wrath of Piltover comes down on Zaun.
The criminals she’s harshly treating are members of the chemgangs. They deserve no sympathy or mercy for what they’ve done to their fellow man, like Huck or the refugees the Firelights take in. Silco’s crimes are their crimes.
She can’t trust anyone else to handle this mission without making things worse. She tells herself that she hates having to do this, but it’s better than the iron fist Piltover is clamoring for.
(In her frustration and rage and grief and privilege, she forgets the lesser evil is still evil, and eventually there will be no difference at all.)
And so when Caitlyn feels she has no other choice, she weaponizes the Grey. It is controversial. Vi is horrified and angry, and perhaps Maddie or Loris get a fleeting “are we the baddies?” thought, but Caitlyn justifies it, just as she has done everything else. It is either this or total martial law, where so many more people will suffer. Vi’s guilt rears its ugly head, and she, too, is unable to recognize the rot that is slowly growing inside of her with each passing day, with each piece of her soul she sells to the machine that is Piltover’s ruthless oppression of Zaun.
Their hunt for Jinx ends the same way as canon. It is here that we finally see the full extent of how far Caitlyn has fallen.
“It’s her blood in your veins” is wonderfully perfect in its bigotry. There is no going back from this. Just as there is no going back when she hits Vi in the stomach with her rifle and leaves her behind as Vi sobs and breaks down.
Caitlyn accepts her ascension to dictatorship, even if some part of herself recognizes that Ambessa is orchestrating this for her own benefit. Again, she justifies it by telling herself if she doesn’t take power, someone worse like Salo will.
During the timeskip, Vi breaks down as she does in canon. Caitlyn is in some of her hallucinations, but a majority are of everyone she betrayed. Vander, her parents, Mylo, Clagger, Powder (not Jinx), Ekko, Benzo, and even her kid self all look at her with such disappointment and disgust, reflections of her own guilt and self-loathing. She sacrificed everything that made her Violet, and now she has nothing left.
Zaun doesn’t let her forget. They call her a bootlicker, traitor, the Kirammen attack dog, the Piltie pet. With how non-existent her self-worth is, she agrees with them. Her self-destructive behavior is cranked up to the max. The loudest cheers in the fighting arena are always when she takes a big hit or loses.
As time goes on and Jinx’s popularity grows, it’s a direct slap to her face that Jinx is portrayed as Vander’s successor and a revolutionary symbol/hero. After everything Jinx has done, Vi is still that much worse. Again, she can’t help but agree, and spirals even harder.
-
And so when Caitlyn and Vi stay together in the end, it isn’t a happy ending.
Vi comes back to her less because she loves Caitlyn so so much and more because she genuinely has nothing and nobody left. Jinx is gone. There’s no way she can go back to Ekko and the Firelights, not with what she did as an enforcer and the guilt weighing on her. Zaun hates her and sees her as just as bad as Topside. She’s all alone and beaten down by the world.
And so she decides to be selfish and return to Caitlyn, because that is the happiest she can be now.
While Caitlyn does care for Vi, their relationship is still toxic and abusive. Caitlyn was the boot stepping on the necks of Vi’s people for over a year. She hit Vi once; she can (and according to irl studies, is more likely to) do it again. She saw people like Vi as lesser, undeserving of clean air to breathe. She referred to them as animals, and that their blood made them this way.
Without being forced to reckon with and confront the mountain of bigotry she amassed and carried out over the course of her strike force and dictatorship, it is impossible for their relationship to be a healthy one.
(That is all without pointing out just how emotionally, mentally, and socioeconomically vulnerable Vi is by this point, and how desperate she is for something, anything to latch onto.)
So their story becomes a tragedy. Fitting in a way, given the conclusions to the two stories in season 1 are both tragic (episode 3, episode 9).
For Vi, the tragedy is watching a girl burning with revolutionary fire, a protector and defender, slowly lose everything and everyone she ever loved at the hands of the brutal, uncaring system that is Piltover’s oppression. How that fire is slowly snuffed out as she is beaten down time and time again, chooses wrong, loses someone else. How she betrays her deepest convictions while going through an incredibly emotionally fragile time in her life, and she thinks she’s doing the right thing. How she becomes the very thing she always wanted to protect others from. How she is cast aside the moment she doesn’t conform to her oppressors’ standards, is reduced from “one of the good ones” to “just like the rest of them”. How she is left with absolutely nothing after losing it all to the system she is oppressed by. How she ends up as a caged bird: the once revolutionary fighter now “content” to be her dictator’s lover.
For Caitlyn, the tragedy is watching a girl with a kind heart succumb to the corruptive nature of fascism. How she truly had good intentions of fixing things from within the system when she started, but was unable to recognize the moral decay creeping within her - because there are no good cops, no good enforcers, no good fascists. How she lies to herself and becomes more and more cruel with every action. How she is able to justify actions that were once nigh unthinkable as a deep, pervasive rot slowly spreads inside her, calcifying that kind heart into a cold, bitter thing. How she spits in the face of her mother’s legacy and uses her privilege to hurt the oppressed even harder in ways only she can. How she discards Vi, a woman she convinced to sacrifice every principle she believed in, a woman she loved, the moment Vi acts out of line in her eyes. How she is too inundated by privilege and class to recognize just how far she has fallen.
They could have been wonderful partners in another life. We see the potential good they could be together in season 1.
But fascism has chewed them up and spit them out.

An Open Letter to Dan and Phil
Dear beloved nerds,
This was originally going to be an (even longer) actual letter that I was going to give to you at the tour, but my nonprofit-employed ass can’t afford a meet and greet, so we’re doing this instead. I promise it’s not just trauma dumping— mostly, it’s about saying thank you and trying to cultivate some hope for all of us.
I’ve been a big fan since around 2014, when I was a mentally ill neurotic deeply repressed loner egg (average phannie, let's be honest). Now I’m a whole adult who got therapy and HRT and has joined the legions of transmascs with the Dan Howell haircut! What a legacy.
I’m making jokes because the thing I actually want to talk about, and the reason I decided to make this an open letter, is kind of serious. But in light of the election, I feel like I need to share this, both with you and with all the other queers in this little corner of the internet.
Here’s the gist: I’m a paralegal at a non-profit organization that works to help queer migrants get asylum. Mostly what I do is sit them down in our nasty sterile office and try to be kind, and help them get through telling me all the most terrible things that have happened to them, and then turn around and pare it all down into legalese that is digestible to the government to make the case they should get asylum.
It’s a horrible job, really, and one that shouldn’t have to exist. Some parts are plainly wonderful, like meeting so many queer people from all walks of life. But it’s also heartrending and difficult, and burnout is always looming. My horrible banal work is often literally a matter of life and death for the client, and I’m fighting a broken system for a chance at giving them the happiness and safety is owed to them by international law and, really, by any decent human standard, should never have been in question.
The thing is—and this is reason to hope—queer people really do exist everywhere, no matter how much repression and violence we face. In a tiny village in Colombia, there's a kid who’s all spit and vinegar, dresses like a boy and plays football and fights anyone who says that they can’t, who grows up wiry and gets black eyes because men still can’t handle getting their asses handed to them on the soccer field by a dyke. This client texts me at my work number sometimes to ask if I’ve eaten that day, because they wanted to check in on me. He asked me to call him by a boy’s name, recently. I don’t know that he’s told anyone else. I open every message I send him with "Hola, James."
Then there’s the sweet, babyfaced college freshman who got death threats when he was outed to his classmates back home, and whose parents kicked him out when he refused to marry a girl to protect the family's reputation, leaving him alone in a foreign country. He was couch surfing and just trying not to miss class so he could keep his student status and he was so conscientious I wanted to cry— he’s eighteen, guys. Eighteen. I’ll get him his papers or so help me fucking God I will kill for him. You know? You know. After that meeting I had to sit at my desk with my notebook and fill an entire blank page with the phrase “he’s just a kid,” over and over again, until I felt like I could breathe.
On a Friday morning recently I get up and open my laptop to interpret on a call with a soft-spoken older trans woman who's sat in the bleak phone room of the ICE detention facility because her immigration judge didn’t believe that she was really transgender. “An odor of mendacity pervades everything the respondent says,” the judge wrote in her ruling, where she determined the client wasn't "credible." To this day I’m still floored that she straight up ripped off Tennessee Williams—new frontiers in bigotry, truly. She didn’t even cite. In our meeting now, the client quietly tells us how hard it was when she came out but how happy she was the first time she wore makeup, and she'd rather stay in detention here for indeterminate years as proceedings spiral on than go back to Guatemala, where they'll kill her—boys, if I ever get within spitting distance of this fuckass judge, it is on SIGHT. Absolutely fucking ON SIGHT. For legal purposes, that was a JOKE.
So I finish the call and get up to get a snack. It’s only ten am but feel tired already because I’m angry, which is not unusual but also not something I want to hold onto, because it doesn't help anything. So I make some toast and look at my phone— two texts, which I ignore, a spam email, and, wouldn't you know it, a YouTube notification from Dan and Phil games! Jarring! That’s just sort of how life is though, isn’t it? Deathly serious and lighthearted in the same breath.
But regardless, seeing the notification makes me feel warm, so I have my toast and watch a little video of you two playing Roblox or dress up or whatever it is you do on that channel these days. I have a good giggle and I finish my toast and go back to my desk. It’s a crucial part of my diet really— the giggles, not the toast. I’m not angry anymore. I’ll be angry again, but for now my cortisol levels are manageable and I can put my head back into emails or whatever the fuck. Do you ever think about how plants make food for free out of sunlight but we sit around writing emails all day? And that’s if we’re lucky. Capitalism is hell.
Anyway, there is a point I am trying to make, and it’s not really about the banal horrors of neoliberal nation-state or capitalism or even homophobia. It’s to say thank you for coming back to make silly videos together, because I love them, and you never fail to make me happy. And yeah, maybe something about the story of that scared eighteen-year-old kid at the front of my mind makes it particularly sweet to watch you two goofing off and being openly queer. It reminds me why I’m doing what I’m doing, and it gives me the strength to send another fucking email because sometimes doing “important work that I value and believe in deeply” means having to send another fucking email. And sometimes I’ll rewatch your older videos, and then come back to the more recent ones, and my heart bruises, because you remind me what I’m fighting for and why. It’s nothing grandiose, it’s just— for queer people to get to have the ability to grow into themselves and be outrageous and silly and make mistakes and to love and be loved for who they are. To have the safety and support and security that no one should ever go without. That’s all.
So I am being dead serious when I say thank you for making top-tier light entertainment, and for coming back to a job that wasn’t always kind to you, and that it does actually matter. All this talk about terrible influences and legacies has made me think that sometimes you doubt whether you do good in the world, so let me be clear: you really, really do. I kind of get the sense that in order to accept sincerity Dan needs to be beat over the head with it, so if that’s the case, consider yourself coerced, you dickhead. You matter to me, and especially in times like these, I think I speak for all of us when I say that the joy you share is a precious and treasured gift. So please accept my gratitude in return.
All my love,
Jules
(I removed or changed all identifying information in this letter to protect privacy, but the stories are real).

you know it really speaks volumes when you see people on here who are afraid to post opinions/theories about a certain ship bc they don’t want an influx of hate and vitriol in their inbox from people who up intil a couple months ago were super on board with that ship themselves
like there is so much hate and violent behavior coming from some of these people and it’s concerning how we can’t enjoy characters/a ship that have been developed over six years just because they think their plot device character is the most important thing to to the show and that he plays this integral role despite having less than 30 minutes of screentime, and not having appeared in almost 6 years (his first appearances where he was only important as sn antagonistic plot device for two poc)
every fandom has drama, and there is no such thing as a perfect fan… we are all human beings, we all have flaws
but the fact that the fandom is being policed so hard by these people to the point where cast and crew are being harassed over this random character, screeners are being sent death threats for talking about what was literally shown the show, queer people are being called slurs and/or having their queerness invalidated for having valid qualms with the way this storyline has been handled
this is worrying behavior and it’s not acceptable from anyone regardless of who they ship/don’t ship…. and the fact of the matter is most of this behavior is stemming from that half of the fandom
i personally as a queer person don’t wanna see a relationship on tv in which a long-term main character is throws together with a poorly written character who has zero chemistry with him, as well as treating him with disdain and disrespect at every turn. that’s not the representation i want to see on my screen. i don’t want a queer character who has had no signs of change from when he was making casual racist and misogynistic comments in the workplace; whose only “growth” are two throwaway lines that don’t even acknowledge his involvement and complacency in the bigotry. i don’t want s character whose blatant racism is blamed on the fact that he was closeted. to me that is not good representation- that’s weaponizing queerness to say that it’s okay for queer people to be problematic because they’re queer which is NOT true at all…
your queerness does not erase your bad behavior
your queerness is not a get out of jail free card
and seeing it portrayed as such in a huge network tv show while simultaneously dragging queer women of color through the depth of despair, and completely destroying the development of another heavily queer-coded poc character by having his son taken away in one if the most egregiously poorly written and out of character plotlines of the series is such a massive disservice to queer fans- whether they accept to see it or not- bc when this is how we are portrayed in media, this is how people begin to view us
and especially in the US, this is not something i want to see going into the 2024 election when queer rights are actually being threatened by one side while the other is actively supporting genocide

You wince as you press the wet cloth against your eye, trying both to stop the swelling before it gets too bad and to stop the bleeding from the cut over your eye at the same time.
In truth, you’re not doing the best job at that. You’re still too wired and hyped up on adrenaline to tend to your injuries in the way that they need.
Plus. It hurts.
Not physically. Well, not so much physically. But you lost a good friend today, and it hurts.
You don’t regret it. Not at all. The things he said about Dogma were disgusting, and there’s no room, or place, in your life for a bigot. Even if that bigot had been your friend since you were a kid.
Maybe even especially so.
You had no idea he had those kinds of opinions…or maybe you didn’t notice. You’ll have to ask Dogma when you see him later. And if you didn’t notice the bigotry, you’ll owe Dogma so many apologies.
For a moment, you’re mind lingers on your boyfriend. On his smile and the way his eyes crinkle when he’s genuinely happy. On the way he brightened when you taught him how to make brownies, and the shy way he gave you a whole tray of brownies made from scratch.
And, slowly, you’re heart sinks as a memory swims to the forefront of your mind.
“Another fight, cyare?” Dogma asks, a disappointed frown on his face as he steps closer to you and tilts your head back to scan your face, “You promised you would stop this.”
“I promised I would try,” You counter weakly, averting your gaze so you don’t have to see his disappointment, “And I did try, Dogma. I promise.”
A heavy sigh falls from him, and you cringe. But his fingers are so gentle as he takes the cloth from you, “Try harder, love. I hate seeing you hurt.”
You pull yourself out of the memory, and slowly your gaze travels to the pile of blood-soaked paper towels sitting on the coffee table, and then your gaze drifts to the wet rag in your hand, which is also covered in blood. Finally, your gaze drops to the tiny blood drops on the floor, trailing from the front door.
Dogma is going to be so disappointed in you.
And, like, you’re not unused to disappointing the people you love your parents often send you messages asking if you’ve been arrested for assault yet, and your older brother refuses to have anything to do with you because he “can’t watch you ruin your life any longer”.
But, somehow, it’s worse with Dogma.
And then, as if the universe wants to taunt you specifically, the front door slides open and a familiar voice calls your name, “I’m home! I saw your speeder out front. I thought you were spending the day with your friends.”
For the first time since the day you met Dogma, you panic when you hear his voice. Hurriedly, you shove all of the blood-soaked material into the bag and throw it behind the couch. And then you settle on your knees on the couch and hope that Dogma, suddenly, forgets how to be observant.
You hear him in front hall, the sound of him sitting on the bench by the front door to remove his shoes…though the sound of movement suddenly stops. And you’re reminded of the blood trail starting at the front door.
Fuck.
“Cyare?” You hear Dogma stand and the sound of his heavy boots heading down the hall, and you scramble to your feet and dart to the hall, suddenly distracted from your panic.
You stop in front of him and stop him with a hand on his chest, “Shoes off at the door, mister!”
Dogma stares at you, for long enough that you start to feel uncomfortable, and then he sighs and kicks his shoes to the side, leaving them messily in the hall, before he takes your face between your hands. Gently, he turns your head from one side to the other, and his brow furrows.
“You got into another fight.” It’s not a question.
“I…” You consider lying about it, but only for a split second, “Yeah. I did.”
“What was it about this time?” Dogma asks, exasperated.
“Someone said something.” You reply.
“Baby, you need to learn to ignore them.”
“I know. I know. But I couldn’t. Not with what he said.”
“About you?”
“No. About you.”
Dogma looks surprised for a moment, “I’m assuming this was your friend? What did he say?”
“Ex-friend. And I don’t want to say it. Don’t ask me to.” You wrap your hands around his wrists, “But, know that he deserved it. And I’m not sorry.”
He rubs his thumb under your eye, “Sweetheart—”
“Bigots get no mercy from me. Ever. You can’t change that about me Dogma.”
He scans your face for a moment longer, and then he sighs. “I wish you wouldn’t fight. It breaks my heart every time you get hurt.”
You avert your gaze, “I know. I’m sorry.”
He leans in and presses a kiss to your forehead, “but I wouldn’t change you for all of the credits in the galaxy. I’m proud to have a cyare who is willing to fight for what they believe in.”
“Even though I get hurt?”
“I guess I’ll just have to take Kix up on that medic class he’s been shoving at us for the last three months. He’ll be thrilled.” Dogma smiles then, “Now. How about I help you get patched up and we order some lunch?”
“Can we have curry?”
“Whatever you want, love.”
“And fancy cake from that place down the street?” You ask, hopefully.
He laughs and lightly taps your nose, “Don’t push it.” Dogma presses a gentle kiss against your lips, and then releases you to head into the house proper.
You take a moment to straighten his shoes and sit them on the shoe rack, and then you hear Dogma from the living room, “Babe? Why is there a bag of bloody rags behind the couch?”
“...uh…I can explain?”

What Anime Means to Me
Tumblr media
Anime is something I never thought I’d get into. As a child, I used to think it was dumb or cheesy due to only having exposure to Pokemon or Beyblade. Learning about alt right weeaboos who watch it for being less “woke” than western animation closed me off even more. Yet now it’s my special interest and in many ways has helped me grow up, at least mentally, and taught some harsh truths that I needed during my depression phase.
My opinion of anime began to change thanks to a masterpiece of a romance. My literature class had us watch Your Name and I was blown away. It was funny, emotional, tragic and moving. Less than two years later, I was lucky to be able to watch Suzume when it was in theaters and I fell in love with the medium that day. I began watching movies like Akira, A Whisker Away, Ghost in The Shell and classic Ghibli. I think my favorite was either Kiki’s Delivery Service or Spirited Away.
The series that pushed me to expand my horizons was Madoka Magica. I tried watching the 90s Sailor Moon anime but found it a bit cheesy. PMMM was a quite different from what I expected and it became one of my favorites. Princess Tutu, I watched soon after and while I found it a little cheesy too, the ending had me on the edge of my seat. Both series helped me be a little more optimistic and hopeful when I was feeling down due to working a stressful job at McDonald’s and gender dysphoria.
Tumblr media
Neon Genesis Evangelion is probably the most important series for me as it was sort of a harsh form of therapy. I’ve written about it before but it’s message of self love was a wake up call for me to stop trying to get validation from people who won’t change which I needed after I felt like my father handled my coming out poorly. Its message is a lot more nuanced and mature than what some other shows preach. It is not “you’re a perfect smol bean who can do no wrong” but a lesson about how you can’t just mope around in self pity and hope for validation. I know a lot of people hate the rebuilds but seeing the pilots who I all related to in some way get a happy ending gave me hope that I could do the same.
I recently finished the Violet Evergarden anime as well as the movie and am still a bit choked up. It’s a very beautiful and impactful story. Right now I’m binging Little Witch Academia and love it. Akko is an acquired taste but I find her very endearing. TPN is also on my watchlist but I don’t want to use Disney+ which is full of ads. Both Akko and Emma kind of remind me a bit of Ben Tennyson, one of might favorite fictional characters, as well which I love since that series is very reminiscent of a lot of anime like Sailor Moon.
Tumblr media
Anime, specifically Shinkai and NGE, has had a big impact on how I view relationships and love. The former has taught me about the different ways romance can work and the latter was a deep look at unhealthy relationships and how just expecting complete validation is not a good thing to demand from a romantic partner. Sometimes you do need to change your ways by being a better person in order to find love. I know things like ableism and homophobia have poisoned that idea but things that are actual flaws should be challenged by your partner as opposed to enabled.
I never thought that I’d become so obsessed with this medium but it’s helped me grow up and mature a lot of my views about things like love, both loving one’s self and romance. It broke me out of my depression phase and has helped me cope with the difficulties of life. Something I and many others all need in a world plagued with genocide, war, bigotry, political violence and abuse.

Also, Morph.
I was too busy letting child/teenage Steffie freak out about the delicious Romy relationship drama and that it’s setup from jump as being a large story focus, and how amazingly they handled keeping the feel and tone of the show (I love that the animation is true to the original, they could have modernized it, but they kept that choppier feel - it’s perfection. Gah I can’t. Morph. This post is about Morph.)
Morph is genius. Adding them to the show in this capacity is such a brilliant galaxy brained move. Like, not only does Wolverine get his bestie back, Morph also gives us little flashes of other beloved characters that probably won’t be making an appearance. And I love that this show about bigotry and othering can finally explore the NB aspect of their character. They are also hilarious. The Jean and Scott joke had me cackling.
And the show is using their ability BRILLIANTLY. I already loved the evolution of how everyone was using their powers (Cyclops using his concussive ray for movement in the warehouse made me yell.) because it showed natural progression, team dynamics, so many amazing combos. So many adaptations, including the OG X-Men cartoon don’t take any creative license with the powers or use them in new and interesting ways and X-Men 97 was like “Nah, bitch, we getting wild with this”. And Morph is going to BE SO GOOD AT IT.
My only issue. MY ONLY ISSUE, is Morph keeps tricking me. I keep forgetting Morph being around is a thing now so when Lady Deathstrike (Yuriko, my beloved, the movies did you so dirty) popped up I was like WHAT and then me and my partner were like “FUCK, MORPH”.
It happened like twice 🤣 and it will def continue to happen.
I just have a lot of feelings. So many feelings.

Why is Harry Potter trending (or was)? Can it not? Like deadass I’m being fr can it plz not. Especially that J.K Rowling is a massive TERF, a raging antisemite, and disgustingly try to deny that trans people were not affected by the Holocaust (which she was ratio’d by George Takei).
“Proof?”
Way ahead of you: (Tw: transphobia, racism, antisemitism, holocaust, Harry Potter)
Oh and don’t get me started how Hogwart Legacy, you know that game that was sworn Jk Rowling wasn’t apart of (yeah sure-) is blood libel story. Not to mention that trans people have told you not to especially since there is a canonical transgender character named Sirona. (People said Sirona is a Celtic goddess for healing. but- come on. You can’t bullshit out of this one. There are OTHER NAMES TO NAME A TRANSGENDER CHARACTER— it make those joke with how Jk Rowling naming not far off. Because it like naming a nonbinary character “NoGendora” or smth (before you say, I’m nonbinary myself—) so idc if it already have a meaning, it still is tone deaf to name a transgender women Sirona).
“But but- you can separate the art from the artist?”
Yes. You can separate art from the artist. HOWEVER before you celebrate thinking you had a gotcha moment. You can only separate if the art itself isn’t problematic or is bigotry itself. Harry Potter is as mention in the links. Not to mention, Harry Potter himself become a cop despite the cop in that world didn’t do jack shit. And don’t get me started on how they handle the whole elf slavery. Also there is heavy fatphobia in this story, proof, look at how they would talk about Harry’s abusive aunt and uncle from his mother’s side. Don’t get me started how she would describe Rita Skeeter. There even a black character who’s last names is Shacklebolt— do I need to say more (if I’m missing any other examples please tell me)
Not to mention she benefits off of it and uses her money to donate to transphobia and just don’t give a flying fuck if she offend people (which seem to usually be the case for trans/homophobia but moving on). like, this is who you wanna support? You still want to read this wizard book when there are other that don’t have transphobia, racist, antisemitic, or any problematic rhetoric and are objectively better than Harry Potter? Really? You wanna die on this hill?
Look. I used to like Harry Potter. but that was before I knew what a dirtbag of a fucking human she is (I didn’t really have social media at the time), and I cringe as I wish I learn sooner that she was a deplorable person who hates trans people like myself (nonbinary respectfully). But, I can happily say Fuck Harry Potter that series can burn in a trash for all I care and I hope the hbo series flops on its ass. And also fuck Jk Rowling, she can fuck off for all I care. That being said, If you support Harry Potter/Jk Rowling, unfollow me. Block me. Because I do not support Harry Potter/Jk Rowling. Because Trans rights/Gender Equality, Human rights are infinitely more important than a basic ass wizard book/movie with a even basic ass magic system when there are objectively better wizard/magic books that are respectful.
Anyway, that being said, Trans and basic human rights matter 🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵 🤭

[Fun Facts About Me]
I don’t like making grammatical errors, they are irritating and embarrassing (in my opinion). However, mistakes are part of life and I have to learn to how to move on. That said; if you do see some grammar mistakes please let me no and I’ll try to fix it. (Ugh, it’s embarrassing that I was born, and live in, Mississippi yet I make numerous grammatical errors. I’m so bad, most of the time, at English, it’s hilarious.)
I have a tendency to ramble, over explain and procrastinate. I can also appear quite pushy, this is probably because of some deep seated worry that I haven’t yet uncovered.
I love mysteries, they are my favorite genre and I especially love the femme fatale mysteries or mysteries with a female lead.(IE; Miss. Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Murder She Wrote and there’s more but my mind is blank right now.)
I have a soft spot for cute fuzzy cats and I like taking photos of scenery that I believe to be beautiful.
Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite books, it was a childhood favorite and it still is to this day. (The animate movie and the book are my preferred versions of Alice In Wonderland.)

We already have a state trying to change the laws around abortion here and I just know if trump gets into office we are going to have a lot more stuff like that going on.
It’s so concerning that these types of things are constantly on the board and up for debate. It’s something we just rest easy on knowing will be there.
Conservative people online like joke and make fun of all the time about how “the woke left” has gone too far and is changing too many things but I genuinely believe in my 25 years of life this is some of the most conservative times I’ve lived in within my memory. We are losing so much. So much is being debated that shouldn’t be. Sexism , racism, ableism and homophobia are through the roof right now. Small steps that have been taken forward are being removed. Legally some things might be on our side , but socially ?? Not at all. It’s so bad genuinely. We have so much bigotry coming from everywhere. And I know people could explain it (not justify it ) that during times of economic crisis and turmoil and during times after oppressed groups gets more rights society tends to take a take a massive swing to the right because people in positions of privilege can’t handle it and need someone to blame.
But that along side the horrible state of the world , the climate crisis we are going through and the rights of those most disadvantaged by society constantly being up on the table for debate is so scary and overwhelming. There isn’t a sense of calm for any corner of life at the moment. Literally everything is going to shit.

So I know you've posited before that you don't think Salem or Cinder (or Summer, for that matter) are going to be 'purified' by Ruby's Silver Eyes or anything like that, unlike what seems to be the common theory or prediction around the FNDM. I'm curious as to what you feel then is going to be the narrative payoff for Ruby's Silver Eyes? Like what would she ultimately use them for if not for Grimm purification?
well, anon, let me ask you this:
where in the text does it say that silver eyes are for purifying things that have been corrupted or tainted or otherwise made impure? 😐
it doesn’t. that’s fanon. it’s an assumption that because the light destroys the grimm, and grimm evil light good, it must therefore also be able to cleanse the grimm out of people who are bad because being grimm makes them bad. which is a pretty uncomfortable reading when you stop to think for five seconds about how grimmness is actually handled thematically.
salem is hated and feared for being grimm long before she does anything bad. raven observes that cinder can’t protect her grimm arm with aura and that is her reason for calling cinder a monster. anti-faunus bigotry is informed by a long history of faunus being scapegoats blamed for grimm attacks, as per ‘the judgment of faunus.’ see the pattern?
salem is a person. she hasn’t been “corrupted.” the divine pools gave her… infinite creation and infinite destruction in equal measure, and she has free will. that’s the literal definition of what a human being IS in this world. for all intents and purposes she’s a faunus with grimm traits.
she doesn’t need to be “purified.” she needs to be treated like a person, because that is what she is.
so, what ARE silver eyes for?
their textually-stated purpose is to preserve life, because life is precious and must be protected, and they’re empowered by love—both loving someone and the feeling of being loved. they also have a hitherto unremarked upon but very obvious connection to death, e.g. ruby hearing pyrrha’s last words in her dreams months after the fact.
all of remnant has a divine writ of execution hanging over its head. if the brothers return and find humanity unchanged from what they are now and have always been, they will be found “irredeemable” and the whole world will be wiped from existence.
the god of light is not reasonable and the whole point of this ultimatum is to punish salem for recreating humanity by recombining the brothers’ power in the pool of grimm not groveling for forgiveness like she was supposed to. he will not adjudicate fairly. his judgment is a foregone conclusion; he’s going to condemn everybody to death.
what do you think ruby’s magical eyes that only work if you believe life is precious and must be protected are FOR, if not stopping the divine judgment against humankind? the light isn’t a weapon—it spreads out around ruby as a dome. it’s a shield.
