The manna and the bread of life
A celebration of Holy Communion: 1st Corinthians 11:23-25
Reading John chapter 6 recently it struck me that this chapter is all about bread. As I
read it, things just kept jumping out at me and I feel compelled to write them down.
While we are preparing for Communion, we are used to hearing the words of 1 Cor 11:23-25 being read out “…. on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread……….do this as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
I think the words of Jesus in this chapter will help us to gain a deeper understanding of the significance of the Communion and make it a richer experience.
We begin with the parable of the Loaves and Fishes. We are told early on in the chapter that the Pesach (the Passover) was nearby. Jesus sees the crowds and asks Philip where they can buy bread to feed them.
My first thought was - as it was near Passover, where the Jews clean their houses of all hametz (yeast) would there be a shortage of bread?
My second thought was – Jesus is the Bread of Life. Was He asking this, knowing ‘I am the bread, I will feed them’?
After Jesus crossed over the Galilee to Capernaum people came looking for him, and he challenged them. Beginning with the phrase which is translated ‘most assuredly,’ (in Hebrew ‘Amen Amen’ or ‘yes indeed’) which means ‘listen very carefully’/listen up, he says to them that they were seeking him because they ate the bread, not because they saw the signs.
Then He opens up this deep teaching on the bread.
“Do not work for the food which passes away but for the food that stays on into eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For this is the one on whom God the Father has put His seal.”
The people then ask Jesus for a sign and say “our fathers ate the manna in the desert as it is written (says in the Tanakh), ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’
When Jesus replies, he says again ‘most assuredly’ ‘yes indeed’ “Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, by my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the Bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
Jesus continues by explaining that He is the bread of life and all who believe in Him will never hunger or thirst and that everyone who believes in Him, He will raise up on the last day.
Again Jesus says, ‘most assuredly’ ‘yes indeed’ He who believes in me has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and are dead. This is the bread which came down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever, and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”
And then again, He says ‘most assuredly’ yes indeed’ (listen up!) “unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood, abides in Me, and I in him. (Leviticus 17:11 says that the life of the flesh is in the blood)'
John 6v58 “This is the bread which came down from heaven – not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”
What if we thought on this as we prepare to take Communion! Would not it take us so much deeper into the meaning of it and give us so much more?
This was not even Jesus’s last Passover. The next chapter goes on to say that Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles was near) so Jesus is still around then. He was preparing the people ahead of his death!
1 Corinthians 11 v26 “For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.”
Here is David Stern’s commentary on this verse: -
At Passover Jews all over the world retell the story of the plagues and the Exodus and thus proclaim the central fact on which their peoplehood is founded. Likewise, members of the Messianic Community (Believers of Jesus) are to proclaim the death of the Lord as their exodus from sin and as the basis for their existence. Both proclamations look not only back toward a past redemption but also forward to a future one; hence the proclamation is until He comes the second time.
Jewish New Testament Commentary, David H. Stern

Set Apart to Be Set Free
43 And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the statute of the Passover: no foreigner shall eat of it, 44 but every slave that is bought for money may eat of it after you have circumcised him. 45 No foreigner or hired worker may eat of it. 46 It shall be eaten in one house; you shall not take any of the flesh outside the house, and you shall not break any of its bones. 47 All the…

I feel like F/P/S was still a pretty weird one, even by Lance's standards.
sorry for (in an ironic twist) not doing much Ride Kamens art now that it's actually started; I've been pretty slow going through it and I feel weird posting about things I'm not caught up on! though I'm. definitely gonna have to set aside some time to actually get through episode 13, after what they posted today. (w-what did they do to my Leon) (NOBODY TELL ME I HAVE TO FIND OUT ON MY OWN) (LEOOOOOOOON)

🏳️‍⚧️ DOUBLE HEADCANON ATTACK!!! 🏳️‍⚧️
Family HCs are already fun on their own but with transness added on they're even better. It's actual comedy gold. Also I've always wanted to draw some kind of Meta Knight VS Galacta Knight type thing, but I can't take anything seriously like that. So you get This.
What This is, is a way too high effort shitpost. It took a combined 2 and a half? Days, though most of it was just sketching. I'm proud of it! Anything for the bit.

What would you choose? :0c
(note: original image is from HERE (link) - but I edited it to add a wider variety of options.. also added $3 extra to the total, even though I know that makes it more uneven lol, I thought if you're adding 10 whole extra items, the money to spend should at least be increased slightly, if that makes sense..)
#I would get orange juice. black coffee. AND iced coffee ($3) because I love the variety of having multiple drinks#then sausage and scrambled eggs ($8). Then sauteed mushrooms ($3)....AND... hrm.. then spending the remaining $4 would be hard#I wish I could get waffles (as they are my favorite and are superior in every way compared to pancakes. donuts. etc.) but I'm not willing#to give up the other savory things just to get them. so... then maybe I could get a biscuit or english muffin? and just put jam or#honey butter or something on it so it can be my replacement 'sweet and bready' thing instead of something from the $5 row??#OR I could also just assume that having the orange juice plus iced coffee would provide enough of a 'sweet element' to the meal#(since I largely prefer savory foods. I only like a tiny bit of sweet added for variety) and thus forego any sort of#'bready' thing entirely and just get the bowl of beans/onion/tomato (I'd leave the avocado since I don't like the#texture of them really lol). THEN I'd have $1 left to get the milk or the black tea... increasing my total of random drinks..#which is always the goal of course.. as a chronic ''person who is sipping at 5 different drinks at their desk simultaneously always'' perso#OR... I could just do.. waffle. scrambled eggs. sausage. mushrooms. and black coffee and orange juice.. which is... okay variety#augh... so difficult.. As my Ideal Breakfast is like a buffet type thing or something where you have like 25 different things to choose fro#and can get a little tiny bit of everything. My eating style is very much like.. I'd rather pick at a small amount of a ton of#different things than just have a very large amount of only one or two things. Thats why I LOVE sample platter type stuff.#So it's like... augh... the ideal option would be a tiny portion of EVERYTHING actually lol...#Difficult to choose...#ANYWAY.. Also no idea why I added croissant instead of bagel. I only thought about that afterwards. I do actually like bagels.#I've only ever even had a croissant like 2 times in my entire life. Yet I've had many bagels. For some reason it stuck out in my mind more#when I was considering 'essential breakfast foods' somehow... how could I forget them... bagels my beloved...#Blame it on the hot weather... 'What in the blazes? The sun hath obliterated the concept of bagels from my miind!'#(< meant to be said in a silly overdramatic elderly wizard accent or something)#Also I don't think ''bowl of beans. onion. avocado. and tomatos.'' is necessarily a breakfast classic or something gbhjjh#but I was just trying to think of a versatile vegetable-ish side that could be full of common breakfast additions#so people could do stuff like ''oh I get the toast option and then the bowl of stuff and I put the avocado on the toast'' etc.#Like a mix and match. You could mix ingredients from different parts. You could put scrambled eggs and bacon and onion#on the bread or soemthing. etc. I just feel like something is always missing if a Full Breakfast Spread#doesnt have some sort of onions or beans or mushrooms or asparagus or spinach like... some sort of thing that isn't just eggs and meat and#bread.. you know? lol..#But then again.. I am the Sampling Plate Style Variety Lover and Tiny Portion Of Food Picker so maybe thats just a me thing.

Our daily bread Part 2
I am the Bread of Life
In Part 1 of our mini-series ‘Give us today our daily bread’ we saw that we need both physical bread to nourish our bodies and spiritual bread to nourish our souls. The spiritual bread is the word of God that we read in the bible. We need to feed on the bible each day.
In Part 2 we begin to explore what Jesus means when he says that ‘I am the bread of life’.
John 6:35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
When we ‘feed’ on Jesus who is the Word that was made flesh, it somehow satisfies the hunger and thirst of our souls.
John 6:48 I am the bread of life. When we partake of Jesus by the reading the bible (God’s word) it brings life into our souls and bodies.
The zoe life described here is both physical and spiritual. All life (2222 /zōḗ), throughout the universe, is derived – i.e. it always comes from and is sustained by God's self-existent life. Jesus the bread of life sustains our physical and spiritual lives.
John 6:51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
God sustains us physically and meets the less tangible needs of this life. More than that, He fulfils our spiritual needs. He is the bread that satisfies our spiritual hunger. He sustains our hearts. When we ask God for our daily bread, we are humbly acknowledging Him as the sole giver of all we need. We are living day by day, one step at a time. We are exercising simple faith in Him to provide just what we need, when we need it – for every area of life.
Natural nutritional value: Breads are rich in complex carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are an important part of our diet as they provide us with energy. Our bread contains various B vitamins, including Thiamine (B1), Niacin (B3), and Riboflavin (B2) which are essential for releasing energy from food. Bread also contains proteins, fibre, calcium, and iron.
Spiritual nutritional value: if you are what you eat, when we eat the bread of life (Jesus) he becomes part of us, his life, his character, his example, his teaching etc.
Jesus says we are becoming one with Him through our daily bread.
We become integrated (one) with Jesus when we eat his flesh and drink his blood (communion).
In summary as we feed on Jesus by reading the bible, our souls are nourished and we begin to grow and mature as Christians.
Amen

Officially, Joel’s grave was inside of Frog Tower. That’s where they’d held his funeral, and that’s where everybody who knew that he even had a grave knew it to be. Unofficially, however, there was another gravestone for Joel. Under the cover of night, Grian had gone back to Bread Bridge, cobblestone in hand, and climbed up the ladder above the submarine alone and in silence, lamenting the loss of his allies and podcast co-hosts. Eventually, he had reached the top of the ladder and stepped out onto the M-Rye-5, dirt crunching beneath his feet.
There was a little corner of the M-Rye-5 that was seldom visited. It wasn’t over anyone’s base. It wasn’t a good place to drop TNT on others. However, there was an incredible view of the whole server from there. You could see everything: Bread Bridge, the Ocean, the Clock Tower, T.I.E.S. Tower, Frog Tower. Best of all, you could see the stars. You were so high up that you could see the stars so clearly and quietly, above all of the chaos that littered the ground below. That’s where Grian built the grave. Jimmy got a grave in the bunker he had made for the frog he’d cared so much for. It only felt right that Joel got to have a grave on a Bread Bridge, even if it wasn’t the original. He fished Joel’s sunglasses out of one of his pockets and propped them up on top of the gravestone. He flicked his own sunglasses down from the top of his head and began to walk back towards Frog Tower.
“So long, Joel. Bad Boys for Life.”

My trip to Kaua'i, Hawai'i
Tumblr media
Yellow Hibiscus: The state flower of Hawai'i. Called the “pua mao hau hele” or “Ma’o hau hele” in the Hawaiian Language (ʻŌlelo).
Tumblr media
Nēnē (Hawaiian Goose): The rarest waterfowl in the world. Nearly brought to extinction in 1990 with 50 wild individuals. Captive-breeding programs and reintroduction efforts have given the native nēnē a chance with now over 3,862 birds statewide. I was lucky enough to see wild nēnē goslings. Very special.
Tumblr media
Honu (Green Sea Turtle): An endangered species most commonly found near the Hawaiian Island Chain. Typically reaching sexual maturity around 20 years of age, Green sea turtles nest on the same beach where they hatched. This is a photo I took of a female rising up from the shore to lay her eggs.

Landscape photos I took on my trip in Kaua'i.
Kaua'i is one of many islands comprising the Hawaiian Volcanic Island Archipelago. I bought a Kaua'i Geologic History Book to learn more about the island and I am very excited to read it.

I had a presentation today, and there's nothing (and I mean nothing) I hate more than those, so as a treat I made the rest of the day real cozy. Baked bread & listened to podcast while cleaning my apartment; good chill times
