Unlucky Overtime

SUMMARY: The Spelldrive game against Royal Sword Academy was very close. But it was in overtime that the teams broke the tie and Night Raven College... lost. They were very upset by this loss and need your comfort even if they deny it.

CHARACTERS: Spelldrive Club 🧹 (Leona Kingscholar; Ruggie Bucchi; Epel Felmier)

COMMENTS: Following the same premise as what I wrote for Basketball Club and Track and Field Club of "What if they lost?"

When I started writing about comforting them when they lose, I ended up finding it more interesting and cute than celebrating when they win. I think it's in the bad times that feelings are most intimate and honest.

When I wrote Epel's part, I was upset about something IRL and it ended up helping me writing him. 😂

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy 😉

CONTEXT: If there are competitive players who love to win, they are the members of the NRC Spelldrive Club. Leona, Ruggie and Epel especially. They were playing with everything, especially because of the school they were playing against. The game against Royal Sword Academy was very close, as expected.

When the game ended they needed to break the tie and so the game went into overtime. But unfortunately, this did not give your school the victory.

Leona seemed upset about losing, as did the other players on his team. But even so, he was the calmest in comparison.

They congratulated the RSA students on their victory (or as close to it as possible, if we ignore the slight growls and murderous looks). They avoided unnecessary interactions until they could leave the field.

You know very well how Leona hates to lose, especially when he tries so hard. And so you knew you had to check on him and try to comfort him, even if he says he doesn't want you to.

You go to the locker rooms exit, but you don't see Leona coming out. Many of the players looked at you angrily when they passed by, but knowing how close you were to Leona, they didn't have the courage to even be rude to you directly.

When you see Ruggie, you ask him about Leona. He tells you that Leona left right after he came in, that he went in, grabbed his things and left. He didn't even change his clothes. This worries you and Ruggie.

“You should go check on him.” Ruggie tells you. “And even if he says he wants to be alone, don't listen, okay? He likes your company even if he doesn't like to admit it. I would also warn you not to pressure him, but you already know that.”

“And where do you think he went?” You ask.

“Where do you think he went? Come on, it's not like we don't know his favorite spots.”

You decided to try your luck at the Botanical Garden, and it looks like you were right, but you didn't realize it right away. You go to one of his favorite spots under a certain tree. You look around, but you don't see anyone, until you suddenly see a tail appearing hanging down beside you. You look up and see Leona lying on a thick branch above you.

“I don't need your comfort.” Leona says, without moving and without looking at you. “Go to your dorm. It's late.”

“You wanted me to see you.” You say. “Otherwise you wouldn't let your tail fall beside me.”

“Believe what you want, herbivore.”

His tail was still there by your side and you don't resist to touch it to mess with him. You reach your hand towards his tail, but at the last second it swings, lightly hits you in the face and returns to Leona's lap, away from you. He finally looks at you, but with an annoyed face and growls.

“I'm not in the mood to play. Go away before I bite you... Don't look at me like that.” He adjusts his head again and stops looking at you.

You sit down against the tree trunk. He growls again, but doesn't move. Just like with cats, you'll just stay there waiting for him to come to you. You use your phone or read a book while you wait.

A few minutes later it starts to get colder, you start to notice it and curl up a little. Suddenly something falls on top of your head, you uncover yourself and see that it is a long coat. Leona's captain's coat. You look up and see him in the same lazy position but without the coat and just with the black clothes and belts. You put it on and you start to warm up right away because it was still warm from him having been wearing it.

A few more minutes later and you are startled again by something that falls right in front of you. Or rather, that lands right in front of you.

“Don't you get tired?” Leona asks you, crouching down and looking you in the eyes. “Of being so stubborn?” He has that unbothered, but still slightly annoyed face.

You put down what you had in your hands and stretch your legs on the floor. He gives you a little throat growl. You smile, but he growls at you more, and suddenly he throws himself at you as if he's going to attack you. But he didn't. He stopped very close to your face.

“Yes. I'm angry that I lost.” He says in a low voice. “And that's why you shouldn't have come to me. I don't need pity or words of comfort.”

“Do you really think I pity you?” You ask. “I wasn't worried about you being angry. I was worried that you would fall back into that depressive state of feeling like life is unfair and it's not worth trying anymore.”

His green eyes remain fixed on yours and suddenly he kisses you eagerly. You already know him well enough to know what truly hides behind those roars and tough guy mask. His instinct was to reward you for it.

After he breaks the kiss he lays his head either on your chest or in your lap and hugs you. You are trapped now until he is willing to let you go.

Ruggie was so angry that Leona had to calm him down. All the NRC players congratulated the RSA players, but clearly only because it was what they had to do. The tension and animosity could be cut with a knife. After that, the NRC players go straight to the locker rooms. You feel like you should check on Ruggie.

You go to the exit of the locker rooms to wait for him. Some of the players who passed you on their way out gave you bad looks, but knowing how close you were to Ruggie, they did nothing more than just grumble into the air.

When Ruggie finally left he was still angry. When he saw you, his expression didn't change much other than being a little embarrassed.

“Hi, sorry, I don't have time.” He apologizes, clearly trying to avoid you, but smiling. “I want to put these clothes in the wash ASAP.” He walks around you and starts going away.

You follow him.

“I was thinking about trying those new donuts from Sam's shop with you.” You say.

You see his ears twitch with interest.

“Yeah... but you know, I'm not really hungry. And since they're new, those donuts are still expensive. I'm waiting for him to lower the price a little.”

“Don't worry, I already bought them for you.”

Ruggie stops! And looks at you in surprise.

“You did?! Why?”

“I wanted to give them to you after the game anyway. You know, for the good game.” You see him pouting. “I didn't buy them as a consolation gift. I did it before the game started. I was going to give them to you even if you had won.”

He seemed more satisfied with that explanation and you took out the box you had in your backpack.

“How come I don't smell it?”

“I wanted it to be a surprise, so I asked Sam if there was a way to hide the scent from you. He used a spell on the box.”

Ruggie asks you if he charged extra for the spell. You said he didn't. Before you open the box, Ruggie suggests that you go to a more chill place. After all, you were still near the locker rooms surrounded by players and spectators.

The Windmill is right behind the coliseum and not many people usually go there. In fact, there was no one else there. The two of you sat on the edge of the stream that surrounded the Windmill. The sound of running water could calm both of you.

You open the box, take out one of the donuts and hold it up to his mouth. He blushes a little, but accepts your offer and takes a bite. You loosen your grip and he takes the donut out of your hand with his mouth.

While he was eating he looked at the water and despite the calming sound his anger returned because of the thoughts that also returned to that game. You could hear him mumbling softly, and see his ears back and his teeth showing.

He finishes eating the donut and stands up abruptly, starting to release his frustration with swearing and cursing to the air, kicking the ground and even pulling up grass. You remain sitting on the floor eating your donut.

As soon as he finishes his emotional outburst, which he always did with his back to you, he finally turns around, dropping his arms and sighing. He kneels down next to you, looks at you with a pout, picks up the box of donuts and takes it from your lap. For a second you think he's going to steal all the donuts for himself, but he sets the box aside and lays his head in your lap as if he's laying it on the pillow after a tantrum. You even hear a dog-like whining. If you pet his head, you might see his tail wagging a little.

The two of you continued eating the donuts as you pet his head and ears to comfort him. When the donuts are gone and the box is empty, he gets up, sitting on the grass next to you. Ruggie looks at you, still a little sad, but calmer and with an affectionate sparkle in his eyes.

He doesn't say anything, he just throws himself into a kiss as a thank you.

EPEL WAS PISSED!!! Leona and Ruggie had to calm him down. Even RSA players were scared to see someone like Epel like that. Like other NRC players he avoided unnecessary interactions with players from the opposing and winning team.

As soon as they were able to retreat to the locker rooms Epel was one of the quickest to leave the field. You knew you should check on him.

You go to the exit of the locker rooms to wait for him. You see the other NRC players walk past you, angry about losing and when you finally see Epel coming out of the locker room, the expression on his face is the same if not worse than that of his other teammates, even the vein in his forehead was bulging.

But that changes completely the moment he sees you. His shoulders, and consequently his posture, relaxed and he smiled slightly at you, knowing he couldn't fool you with a big smile. He had a bandage on his nose because of the injury he suffered when he blocked a shot with his face during the game.

You walk over to him and carefully place your hands on his face, showing your concern for his injury. He blushes!

“D-Don't worry. I'm fine, I promise... Gah, wait! Vil’s gonna kill me when he sees me like this!” He suddenly worries.

You say that Vil doesn't need to see him so soon and suggest that the two of you go for a walk so he can clear his head a bit. He sighs and accepts your offer, you are usually right at these times.

“I really need to go for a walk. Or a run. Dagnabbit, I don't even know if walking around the entire campus is enough. If we could leave the camps whenever we wanted and I had a Blastcycle, or... OH! What if you come with me for a broom ride?”

“But you just finished a game of Spelldrive.” You say “Are you sure getting back on a broomstick will be good for you?”

“Don't worry, I can separate a game from a ride. Trust me, it will be good to feel the fresh wind on my face.” He gives you a reassuring smile.

He goes to get his broom and you climb on it behind him, holding on to his torso. The beginning of the ride is pleasant, but eventually he starts to speed up until he reaches a point where you squeeze him and ask him to slow down.

“AH! Sorry, sorry, sorry! My mind went back to that game and I got angry again. I must have started speeding up by accident because of that. Sorry... I think we should stop somewhere for a break.”

He lands on the roof of Ramshackle Dorm.

“Sorry again if I worried you.” He tells you after you both get off the broom. But the ride actually helped me a bit.” Suddenly he grimaces in pain and puts his fingers to the bandage on his nose, it seems his bad mood was returning.

You cup his face and kiss his nose lightly. He blushes a lot again and look away from you.

“I wanted you to see us win.” He admits. “I was so excited to know you were watching. I really wanted to make you proud.”

You tell him that you're proud of him, just as Ruggie and Leona probably are too. Who wouldn't be? He always works so hard to improve. And he's still just a freshman, there will be more opportunities to win, he's just starting out. And for a start, you're sure he played better than a lot of freshmen. You finish by saying that he should rest, especially with an injury like that, and you even offer to take care of it for him if he needs.

“Thank you so much, (Y/N).” He smiles sweetly at you. “I promise I'll give you a win next time.”

If you say that you would prefer him to be more careful, his smile and gaze will become even more affectionate.

“I'll try. Although... hum, nothing.”

You say that now you want to know and he blushes slightly.

“I... I was just thinking that... it must be nice to be taken care of by you. I wouldn't mind getting a shot in the face again for that. Ha ha ha.”

If you hug him, he will freeze for a second, but then he will hug you back and you will feel a loving squeeze, as he whispers a thank you. If you let him, he will kiss your cheek after the hug. And if you want, he will continue with another type of kiss.

because I'd actually have more content to mention without even mischaracterizing them

wanna talk about how they're a two-faced mirror? almost as if they were written to parallel each other and there's so much to talk about on this matter

or, since not everyone in this Fandom can dive into analysis, wanna mention how Shinobu figured Sanemi could've made Giyuu smile by inviting him to eat his fav dish with him? why not ask him directly instead? why Sanemi out of all people?

wanna mention Sanemi's pseudo-obsession on that man? he disliked his ass, but if we go back to analysis, his intolerance to someone feeling superior can be tied to a multitude of factors and one of which is being low-key reminded of himself, and he loathes himself while at the same time he puts on that strong façade. he can't face it though. and he wanted to understand why Giyuu felt that way SO BADLY he went to him for training and tried to speak with him, he wanted a contact, he wanted to understand, he needed Giyuu to speak up but he didn't.

on the other hand don't we wanna talk about Giyuu's perspective? Giyuu never hated him nor did he really feel sad knowing he disliked him, contrary to how he felt towards Obanai. not to mention he even got to be sarcastic towards Sanemi's dumb ass at least twice.

and the iconic ohagi scene? idk about y'all but between the hashira I think that's THE iconic scene, alongside Giyuu and Shinobu beefing and Shinobu almost stabbing him (don't get me wrong platonic GiyuShino has my whole heart)

the first time we saw Giyuu smile in the series is while imagining to befriend Sanemi??? and out of everyone he chose Sanemi? the hashira who is canonically the most difficult to talk with?😭 he only ever smiled either for food, for Sanemi or Tanjiro

oh and let's not talk about how Tanjiro, after getting knocked up, wakes up and the first thing Giyuu says is "yeah Shinazugawa left" ..? or the whole novel chapter in which they end up talking about him (supposedly right after that scene in the manga) and Giyuu cheered up. what

anyways, likewise, the first time Sanemi was seen smiling genuinely outside of his family was with Giyuu. Obanai and especially Masachika were both closer to him, not to mention the most important person in his life, Genya...yet here we are ig?? (after Giyuu he also smiled more in general, the scene of him smiling at Nezuko was one of my fav panels ever so keep in mind I'm taking in consideration the chronological events and not the impact of the scenes per se)

or let's talk about the most important part in their development which is when they fought together.

Sanemi saving him, telling him not to zone out while throwing the sword at him, it made Giyuu realize he's the water hashira, it was the first time Giyuu acknowledged it. Sanemi influenced Giyuu's character positively, and so far Tanjiro was the only other one who managed to. Sanemi saw him as his ally (rightfully so), and hopefully seeing him fight also made him realize he wasn't that much of a conceited guy, he was just like him, as he initially wanted Giyuu to understand (despite the fact it was a miscommunication)

Sanemi teaming up with Giyuu out of everyone, in such an impactful panel.... idk, if it was a straight ship that would've felt like a confession for the Fandom 💀

they impacted each other's character, they were the only two hashira surviving after facing the same war, they faced similar struggles during their lives (but let's not get into analysis, once again...), they could've understood each other better than anyone else would ever have, and they ended up bonding and eating together

that panel was there, in the middle of other panels all portraying important bonds, whether canon romantic bonds or platonic and sibling-like ones (Tanjiro and Nezuko, the Kamaboko squad, the swordsmiths etc.)

if it wasn't important it wouldn't have been there, but the funniest thing is that if either of them was a woman it would've been considered canon since it also included TanKana, ZenNezu and InoAoi🙏🏻

but oh, if we try to name either of these things and more, people will rightfully say "can't they be friends anymore?", which is valid, but I wonder why this doesn't apply to equally fanon straight ships.

for the sake of this story, lets assume deadpool does hide his identity. he works at a tech company and is constantly beefing with his coworker that he's lowkey attracted to. and the plot could maybe be something like you accidentally finding out his identity and then using that information to slightly/ kind of/ in a non-toxic way blackmail him. eg: making him run errands for you, asking to tag along on his quests as deadpool. then the pair gets closer through all the time they spend together etc etc.

✶ note : hyuck HAS to be the sassiest, funniest, most sarcastic, cocky human being ever. also include some spidermark maybe

haechan as the prince of the neighbouring kingdom

historical au. very basic ik but hear me out. your kingdom's glory and power is gradually draining and it's threatened by multiple rivaling kingdoms. that is when your mother, the queen, tells you there is no choice but to turn to hyuck's kingdom for help. you hate the idea but you know everyone's counting on you so you go through with it anyways. (this is historical so there could be a very cool scene of the reader riding on a horse in battle armour to neighbouring kingdom's palace themself but whatever). they're good, kind people so they agree to help you. they send over a part of their military along with some weapons and of course haechan himself, their most prized possession who, like you, is skilled with a sword and is a wise leader. there's lots of quarrels between the both of you when it comes to the topic of which one has more power over the other and about who should be leading the troops. but you soon put your animosity aside when you realize that you have to work as a team to win. (insert dramatic battle sequence with swords and arrows flying around. at one point, you and haechan lock eyes and suddenly he drops to the ground. the world starts to blur around you when you realize he's been stabbed in his back. you frantically rush to his aid but he falls limp in your arms. its now upto the writer to kill him there itself and end the story. very angsty, i love. or they could also save him somehow and give main characters the happy ending they deserve).

 ✶ note : sloooooowwwww buuuurn. i mean this should be a long ass series with 7k+ words per chapter. should be so heavy on the angst and the hate that it makes you wonder if they do actually end up loving each other in the end. please include sword fighting scenes with sexual tension i beg you. (im big on bollywood, can u tell).

haechan as a stranger/ tour guide you meet on a family trip

you've just gotten out of a 3 year long relationship after your boyfriend cheated on you with your best friend. things get worse when your family, unaware of your breakup, forces you on a 2 week trip to *insert destination of choice" . here you meet the annoying, sarcastic, a-little-too-happy-for-his-own-good donghyuck. he is with the group your family is touring with (him being the tour guide is a pretty cute plot too but it could kind of complicate things later) and instantly wins everyone over with his charm, except you of course. in classic hyuck fashion, he tries to keep getting your attention and eventually succeeds. his company helps ease the pain of the heartbreak he didn't even know about. its bittersweet when it's time to part ways. you realise after you come back to your college dorm that you never exchanged phone numbers and you fail to find him on social media as well. but fate has strange ways of bringing people together. which is why you cant stop smiling when crash into a certain someone during a regular grocery run.

✶ note : more on the fluff and less on the angst for this one. and maybe a dash of slice of life as well.

haechan as captain of the football team.

there is no actual plot for this other than the fact that you're a cheerleader and also his academic rival (there is no trope i love more than this). my vision for this is very 2000s romcom. ik this isn't a lot to work with but there could be some sub trope like fake dating mostly.

Alvis most open with Miles "Tails" Prower. Being when was he was 5 they did meet and found out he was a HUGE and still is a Tails fan. But Tails has mentioned how he was in Eggmans position in the first place was he was sold. But is keeping a lot secrete. What els dose Alvis know. What els, he has the memories of the 4 who's DNA was used to change Als DNA and give powers?

Edit: That last thing. Yes. Said he had identity problem and even others saying for example "Sonic" Alvis would react like you said his name, and was mentioned he hallucinates seeing one of the 4 or all 4 at the same time. Can feel how it Felt being super in space, How the space ark food tasted, How lonely it is on angel island and how it feels to bullied to then find someone who accepts you and treats u like a brother

Edit 2: Since the last update about Alvis this have been brought to light about his past... that it never happened. He was Made by Eggman and the childhood he thought he had was all a simulation to grow him into a obedient. His mother was the Simulation. Alvis has taken it a bit hard and his hallucinations have started to show up again but now he sees himself but as other Species. so the ones we learnt he's related to due to the doctors experiments. He has ruffly drawn them out, They All resemble Alvis... but when you get to the Darkling. Alvis was having a mini panic thru it, seeing it makes him uneasy. He destroyed the drawing after I gotten a look. Learning this he's became a bit depressed and self hating but he says its more to "Being a monster" but Alvis knows he's still the Fox everyone knows. All he also knows is he was made to eliminate Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles 'Tails' Prower, Knuckles the Echidna and Shadow the Hedgehog

long DR post of the day

everyone is free to have their own DR Opinions forever, but it hurts my heart a bit when people say Kodaka hates or favors X character because half the time it's...Patently Wrong. i mean objectively.

like, as an example per the DR1 art book, Hifumi's his (and Komatsuzaki's) absolute favorite, hands down. i don't expect everyone to go looking for the fan translations of the art books or anything but i also wouldn't seriously say something like "yeah so i know Hifumi's just there to be the Fat Comic Relief that no one likes" without doing a bit of research first. that is not a thesis that holds

Kodaka created all these characters with love by his own admission. these are His Blorbos and he is the main person directing all the writing on them. (seriously. go look up the DR credit rolls on the main franchise games. this isn't a team in a board room Doing Things For Marketing, this is him overseeing people teasing out his outline with his little guys.)

anyway. to him, they are all main characters: i'm not making shit up and assuming something about a Random Middle Aged Japanese Guy, this is fact. see his BlueSky stuff, see the fact that he does birthday Tweets in-character for almost every character still every year, or see his lecture from 10ish years ago on character creation. (it's online, and translated as it was done here in America. i'll have to find the link and add a reblog when i do)

now: this doesn't mean the characters' writing isn't XYZ Problematic Thing in execution, no pun intended. but in terms of intent, sometimes the fans' assumptions aren't right, esp if it's kind of a rude one.

another example: the one that makes me the most sad is when folks genuinely assume Kaede was there just to be a sexist girl death in service to Shuichi's character development and nothing more. in execution? we can debate all day 'n' night about it. that's fine, that's worthy of essays. as for intent? Kodaka STILL gets emotional when her birthday trends. her Japanese VA was his friend (source: V3 artbook), was Junko's stage show actress, and unfortunately committed suicide in 2021. let's not contribute to the attitudes of the folks that spam him demanding he apologize for murdering Shuichi's girlfriend for his Man Pain, huh?

I also wanted to ask you if you have heard about the new animated series of Journey to the West that was recently presented at the animation conference “Power of National Comics-Drawing the Future Together” 国漫力量-共绘未来. At the moment they only showed a small animation showing the new designs. Supposedly it will have 104 chapters and will combine hand-drawn animation with AI technology (not sure in what way).

A lot of Journey to the West adaptions have great versions of the pilgrims but don't completely explore their relationship. They do show how they use teamwork to come together.

I would say my personal favorite interpretation is the 1996 Xiyouji series, this tv show is very much driven by character development and see how these three guys are forced to be together to start hating each other, or at least not liking each other, as each trial, they slowly learn how to open up to one another and learn how to trust each other and learn from the mistakes. This really made me fall in love with each pilgrim, but sadly there is a lack of Bailong moments except when he is Wukong’s roommate in the Flowing Sands River and when he saves Bajie from killing himself.

Another I would say is Monkey King Reborn, but they don’t explore Bailong's character as much as I wished, but we can see through the interactions how much they trust each other, especially in the final fight scene where they all agree to fight together and refuses to let Wukong fight alone. Sadly again Bailong is mostly a horse or playing in the Ginsing Fruit Garden rivers. Also another solid one is The Monkey King 2 from 2016 as which shows Wukong, Bajie, Wujing, and Sanzang and testing their faith in each other. I thought that it was a quality movie but it still lacks Bailong scenes.

I would say there is a good count in Journey to the West Sequel from the 2000 series as this series has Bailong as a prominent protagonist in a TV show continuation. This is actually the series where he gets his iconic “name” Ao Lie! I have never seen a series personally, but from the sounds of it, it really allows for each pilgrim to shine. This one is also isn't really a retelling per say could be the Westward series. It is kinda meant to be a 'continuation' of a sort in an action anime series where Wukong, Sanzang, Bajie, Wujing and Bailong (in this series Ao Xue) have to get together to fight heaven.

Also a lil but AU verse but Saiyuki the video game, this one is a Japanese game, and there are a lot of changes, considering that they have the world has Were Monsters rather than Yaoguai I think is still this one also really explodes each character and shows how it goes from a ragtag group of people until like of working team. Super cute and if you have a chance to watch a walk-through or play through highly recommended.

Giving characters who don't have a full team of 6 additional Pokémon based on vibes and game stats.

Disclaimer: There's always a good reason be it in game or outside the game why a character may not have a full team of 6. Also because these are my observations and everyone thinks differently, we may differ in what additional Pokémon we may give to characters if tasked with the same thing. I am in no means an expert on characters. Also a Pokémon team isn't automatically better or fixed if it has 6 Pokémon, this is purely a thought experiment.

Day I: Melli

Love him or hate him, this is the first guy I'm doing because I am confident in my Melli knowledge. First of all, let's actually look at his most complete team, that being his 4th and Subsequent Clears in Path of Tenacity according to Bulbapedia (I don't have the actual game, so I can't go actually fight him).

The team with all its moves (I ain't diving into Effort levels, this isn't about them) is:

1. Skuntank

Knowing Sludge Bomb, Night Slash, Flamethrower and Iron Tail

2. Drapion

Knowing Venoshock, Rock Smash and either Bite and X-Scissor or Thunder and Ice Fang

3. Golbat

Knowing Hypnosis, Leech Life, Air Slash and Shadow Ball.

Now, you may tell yourself that these movesets aren't good. You may be right, especially if you look at the levels listed by Bulbapedia - Skuntank's highest level is 74, Drapion's 47 and Golbat's 48. This isn't unique to Melli however as ALL wardens you can battle at Path of Tenacity have this going on. So we will ignore that. Like yeah, it's true Melli has a preference for Skuntank, but that maybe because it's the Pokémon that actually stays by his side and doesn't just run off.

If this were Gen 4, he would either be on the early Routes or have a Crobat. But that ain't gonna be of use giving him 3 more Pokémon, so let's do actual team analysis.

Melli does not use very speedy Pokémon, his team's speed caps at 95 and that's uninvested. He doesn't use Pokémon who do have outstanding attacking stats, but they are mostly Physical Attackers with a Special Attack that's not that far from it at most 30 point difference on Drapion. His Pokémon are also somewhat bulky per se and while it's not an item in PLA, if it was, it wouldn't be unreasonable for Golbat to hold it to boost its defences, since it's the only Pokémon on Melli's team whose stat in one of the bulk oriented stats (HP, Def. and Sp. Def.) doesn't go over the 100.

They all also possess an immunity to one of Poison type's weakness (Skuntank and Drapion are immune to Psychic, while Crobat is to Ground).

Also none of his Pokémon look friendly. He does like his Pokémon and also Lord Electrode for sure, but he doesn't pick his Pokémon based on how friendly they are. My best guess it's so he looks more serious.

So what I think would be his other 3? Well, these were hard to pick, since most PLA Poison types don't fit the Pokémon stat criteria so choices will have to get... Interesting.

Here are my proposals.

1. Overqwil

Overqwil definitely hits the unfriendly, not so speedy archetype plus it also gets a Psychic Immunity. The only point against it are no bulky stats above 100 and also the difference between it's Physical and Special being 50 points.

2. Toxicroak

Toxicroak isn't really a choice I would make if giving him another team member, mainly due to it possessing a 4x Weakness (remember that there are no Abilities in PLA, at least as far as I know), but it's again a not very speedy, unfriendly looking Poison type with low difference between it's attacking stats.

3. Tentacruel

This one is actually on this list because it's the last Poison type to fit any of the traits I listed, because like... There's very limited number of Poison type, but it wouldn't actually be my top choice because there's another Pokémon that is opposite of what he uses in battle, but honestly... I can't say he wouldn't pull it just so he puts fuel to his one-sided rivalry and that's:

The actual number THREE. Weavile

While Melli definitely respects Sneasler, he definitely wouldn't shy away from battling Ingo and besides Golbat, literally every one of his Pokémon gets dumped on by Gliscore alone and even Golbat ain't a check because Gliscore can have Ice Fang for coverage. Now, I haven't mentioned it, but you could say that alongside a Poison specialist, Melli is also a bit of a Dark type specialist, as it's the 2nd most used type of his with exactly 2 Pokémon he's already using. And who else can get the pesky Gliscore out of the way better than a very speedy Dark and Ice type. Yes, unlike all his other Pokémon, Weavile is very cheeky, but Melli is also a cheeky person. He's also very goal oriented so if he set his mind just to get past Gliscore, Weavile should do it. Maybe he would even think of it as a sign from Dialga themselves.

Anyways, this was long enough and like... There's definitely something to discuss here and also ways to reconstruct his additional 6 team members to fit everything I listed if you use the Nat Dex or with different Dark types to truly make him a Poison-Dark specialist.

Things we can still get in a possible SoC Spin-off

now that i'm done ranting about the things that annoyed me, lets talk about this.

1: Some light on Inej's backstory, the abuse and exploitation she suffered, her own struggles with touch, her vulnerable side, her fun side especially when she's around Jesper and Nina, her fears and how she rises above them. According to this article by tvguide, showrunner Eric Heisserer states that a script has already been written about her incorporation back into the Dregs. Let's just hope they stop reducing Inej's personality to a mere “knife wife” and “girlboss” , and address her actual depth.

2: Tante Heleen's return! Since we never actually see her body onscreen and her death is merely mentioned twice and shrugged off, I'm hoping she's alive and that the production team is keeping her for the spin-off. She's an integral part of Inej's character arc.

3: The Dregs. I wanna see Rotty, Specht, Anika, Pim, Per Haskell, Big Bolliger and the rest of the bunch. Also Dime Lions, Razorgulls, The Liddies, and other prominent gangs. And a shot of the entire Merchant Council would be nice.

4: Since Inej will return and Matthias is still in Hellgate, we'll get the entire Hellgate breakout and Ice Court Heist. (I'm assuming during Matthias's breakout, Pekka Rollins will also manage to escape from Hellgate 🤔) So we can still have the entire book 1 ending at Vellgeluk where Wylan's face has been tailored and Inej gets captured by Van Eck.

5: Crooked Kingdom plotline till they rescue Inej— Kaz throwing off a rapist from the lighthouse after gaining intel, Kaz threatening a little girl, Jesper and Wylan going to receive Colm Fahey and the whole “people pointing guns at each other is basically a handshake” 😂, Nina's struggles with Parem and Matthias trying his best to be there for her, the iconic Kanej reunion at Goedmedbridge,..

I'm not sure how they'll proceed after retrieving Inej, because alot has already been adapted in this season of SaB. But we'll still have the showdown against Van Eck. Not sure what they'll replace the plague thing with but we'll see..

6: Wylan's backstory! Aside from Inej, we also have Wylan's heart wrenching backstory and we'll witness it all. His early life, the moment he lost his mother and his world became gray, his escape from the men who try to kill him, his realization that they were sent by his own father, his struggles with it all, his conflict with being a good person and working with criminals, his reunion with his very alive mother and Jesper being there for him, and so much more..

7: Kuwei! I'm a big fan of this sassy boy. He absolutely hates having to be with Crows and he chooses not to use their language simply so he can avoid conversations with them 😭 We'll see him cause conflict in Wesper's relationship but also slowly accepting and being thankful of the Crows. And I really hope, the show adds a sort of camaraderie between him and Wylan too. But despite it all, I still wanna see Wylan threaten to drown him 😆

8: The Bathroom Scene ♡ If we take into consideration the wound cleaning moment in season 2 of SaB, its a lot different from the bathroom scene. For starters, they're on Black Veil and not an actual bathroom, and Kaz didn't actually tie any bandages for her. Most importantly, the neck kiss didn't happen. So bathroom scene can still happen and it can serve as a beautiful callback and a parallel to this scene in season 2.

9: Kaz can still find Inej's parents, meet them and well, gift her a ship. Wylan and Jesper can still have their happily ever after, living at the Van Eck Mansion.

10: Since they've made so many changes to the source, can they fucking not kill off Matthias and let him and Nina have their happily ever after too? Like they can act as delegates for Ravka and Fjerda 🤔 Or they can help Hanne claim the Fjerdan throne 🤔 Anything aside from killing him off please.

I REALLY hate that Hazbin Hotel was only given eight episodes per season. Like, that is definitely not a lot of time for a story like this to flourish so a lot of it ended up feeling rushed to me. I can't really blame the creators for this as the time constraint wasn't their fault, so I have to cut them some slack.

Final thoughts:

I'm a sucker for themes of gray morality, love that here. It is fascinating that not even angels know what allows a soul to be granted entrance into Heaven, so they come off as very hypocritical when Adam can behave like a blood hungry, sexist jackass but the second Charlie lets the F-bomb slip she's looked down on. Excited to know what becomes of Pentious being redeemed and allowed into Heaven whilst Adam was slain in Hell.

I am so glad the Overlords are not the pompous pricks I was prepared for them to be. With a cast consisting of many assholes, I'm glad that most of the Overlords actually seemed pretty diplomatic and have a mutual respect for one another, minus the Vees. Rosie is an absolute delight and Carmilla won me over in "Hello Rosie". It is absolutely hilarious that Rosie's domain, Cannibal Town, is the most pleasant and charming place in all of Hell.

I do hate to be that person, but I actually thought the finale was sort of underwhelming. Again, there were time constraints so it's hard to criticize them for that, but everything was just thrown at me and I wasn't given the time to let moments sink in. (To be fair, I did accidentally spoil myself for Sir Pentious, so that one is mostly on me, but the scene still came and went very quickly.) Lucifer sort of shows up out of nowhere, but it's hard to complain when I enjoyed watching him go ape shit on Adam.

I don't know if it's another hit by the time constraints or if I just find Vaggie to be too boring (which I do), but I am not invested in the Chaggie romance at all. Their duet felt empty because I personally don't feel the chemistry between them, which is a shame because I want to like them. I love the dynamic they're supposed to have, but it feels so shallow.

I am glad they're allowing themselves to take on certain slow burns, though, like the budding romance between Angel and Husk, and the fact Alastor's soul belongs to somebody. I was prepared for them to reveal what Alastor's deal with, but I'm glad they didn't because it makes me eagerly anticipate next season.

Lilith's reveal pissed me off, and I'm trying to remind myself that there's still a whole other season to see what her game is, to not jump to conclusions. I am literally begging her not to be a secret antagonist. I don't think the theory of her owning Alastor's soul is completely out the window; my sister speculates that she sent Alastor to help Charlie because she couldn't (she seems to also have some deal in place) or wouldn't. My theory is that she got fed up with Lucifer doing nothing, allowing the extermination to happen, succumbing to selfishness and abandoning them. VivziePop herself said Lilith and Lucifer were madly in love, so I'm hoping it's family drama that will be given the attention and time to heal.

Despite its flaws, this show feels worth the wait. The animation is great; it's very fluid, the characters are expressive, and I really like most of the character design changes from the pilot. It's wonderful to see how far this team has come from the pilot. I've been a slut for shows incorporating songs since Phineas and Ferb, and Hazbin has so many great songs. The amount of times I've listened to many of them on Spotify is starting to get embarrassing.

It's still early, but I think Hazbin Hotel has earned its spot as one of the most anticipated shows of 2024, and will earn its place as one of my top ten shows of 2024.

I already talked about yamifin and zorakirsch in another ask here, but as a rule of thump most of the yami/bbs ships and zora/royalty ships count as notps in my book, as I find it clashing with my vision of their respective characters.

so let's be daring here and talk about a popular canon ship, Yami and Charlotte. I find it boring. I find it harmful to their characters. I find it a waste of screentime. charlotte is an exmaple of how women in love done poorly in shonen, IMO, and yami is also an example of how men in shonen tend to have their feelings brushed off or played for laugh. their interactions stopped being funny and grew frustrating as soon as charla took over charlotte's body and teamed up with yami, I know this ended up hyping charlotte anyway but it's pathetic that it wasn't her in the first place, and it didn't even get better afterwards with the spade kingdom and her confession... now I'm supposed to deal with the fact that yami will end up with charlotte even when he has been convinced she hated his guts thus never held feelings for her before.

Yeah. I just can't like YamiChar when it's written like this. NOTP.

5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?

not ruined per say and more of a case of the fandom being small and half dead right now, but I usually tend to quickly lose interest in ships that overwhelm the individual characters... for example, Grey/Gauche are rarely talked about outside of a shipping context and it's harder to find arts or fics of either of them without the other.

on another note, seeing some charlotte fans discredit characters like charla and vanessa to hype Yami/Char might've played a big part on putting me off the ship, if I see one more person referring to charlotte as luck's sister when vanessa is right here I'll snap lol.

6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?

Finral/Finesee... used to hate it, and hate finesse too, but a couple of good fics changed my opinion, now I'm neutral for the most part and cool with finesse even if I'm disappointed with the direction of finral's development.

Let’s start with the date of posting which 3/29, out of all the days he could have shared this, why now? They usually go for Thursdays but not this one. We think it’s a late 3/28 gift, that day is Wuji recording and also when WYB came home from his Rome trip. What a nice coincidence, cause the vlog posted had Rome in it too. These two are really so particular with dates! I can’t. 🥹🥹🥹🥹

1. One thing that stood out to me was when he was looking at a design book. He was talking about designing typeface and letter, and how there are different formations in writing or presenting them. I don’t think that it was ever CPN that he likes to play with letters/ characters to give a different meaning. or to hide something. think : yibo’s motorcyle suit. this just confirms that.

( i have talked about most ( if not all ) of the design bits and hidden meanings per the photos above and more. it’s too much for me to link each one so just feel free to explore this blog. )

2. The way he was eating the lollipop and his pose is so WANG YIBO. I’m sorry, but that’s the first thing that came to mind. 3. The element of romance in this vlog makes me wanna scream! honestly. Sure, you can argue that the place ( especially paris ) is romantic or that he is doing fan service to the viewers — like, you’re in a romantic weekend with me in Paris. Yeah. Sure. that’s a plausible explanation. but for a clown like me, the elements seem deliberate.

I love felicia. Why is she written like that. How is she so badly and well written simultaneously. I hate it. I hate her. Its bad. Its good. Why did they make her sleep with noir. Why is she reduced to an object. She's so much more than this and I know it. She's more than her relationships with men. But also they're so vital to her in ways no one understands. I'm crazy about her.

felica is unknowable. she is an enigma but ive been itching to talk about her.

There's a lot about her that I do really like! She has great bones for a complex character and if there was more source material I feel like she could have had more time to be understood and explored.

I really really wish that there was another woman present she could have riffed with. Spider noir is a man-fest which makes her really man-centric because thats all she's got to work with. Its a huge disservice! I do understand that nightclub life and working with powerful NY politicians and criminals will lend itself towards men, but come on now. Easy spot to throw Gwen into (fanfics love to do it lol), or even swapping the gender of someone else like they did with Jean DeWolfe.

I love that she runs a speakeasy which lets her get right in the middle of soo much information. And historically this can pull really well from 1920s hostesses.

In fact, one of the most highly developed skills of nightclub hostesses in New York was their ability to fleece unsuspecting customers. Trained by their bosses "to get as much information as possible from prospective suckers regarding their bank accounts and business," hostesses come on to male patrons with the express goal of "mounting the check." The only shitty part is it makes her an accessory to men, plus w most of the story being told from Peter's POV we aren't privy to her thoughts. I think because she's basically the only woman with agency that her narrative relationship with men is so bad tasting.

Her character has so much beneath the surface. She knows everything about everyone!! and we never get to see it because she's jaded and secretive and doesn't trust anyone like that, especially not a dumbass teenager with a death wish.

AND HER RELATIONSHIP WITH PETER. don't even get me started. 1) WHY? They didn't have to go there. I know I know its a noir trope. As per the BBC the first rule of Film Noir is "A Dame With a Past and a Hero With No Future." And the Spiderman Noir team committed to it. If only they didn't commit so hard to Felica making multiple comments about how much of a kid Peter was after she was introduced as his mentor's ex. There has to be at least like 15yrs of an age difference between them.

but theres also the flip side that the noirverse is obviously fucked. Media doesn't have to be 100% moral and whatnot (especially in a noir setting), but it doesn't mean i have to root for pete and felica as a romantic couple LMFAO. Ive seen people rewrite their relationship as the strangest, oddest, most fucked up dysfunctional family and you know what i'll take that.

even having that aspect of her character being something where its telling of her past/present, where she doesn't know how to separate pete, a (frankly) dangerous person she needs to keep tabs on and know his secrets, from everyone else she works with. She's been so deeply enveloped by her need to keep herself one step ahead, to have physical power over another in any way (the only way) she knows how, that this is the means she resorts to. but of course we dont know any of that because they didn't bother delving into her more. it does make for a dimensional character at the very least. now if only she wasn't the only main woman.. so that character arc doesn't seem so sexist. and if only pete wasnt so fucking young my gooodddd. but thats what we're working with. such is life

not really a question per se or maybe it will be when I finally get all my thoughts out but throughout the hole and fake I was ruining for Eleanor like so much like I honestly feel bad for her the most out of everyone besides Simon and whatever stuff is going on right now. But now I don’t think I could sympathize with her more as I did in the beginning because like she is getting more un rational to me? like odk how to explain it 😭 but like her are always budging on britney and Alvin for good reason, but then they never make an effort to let them see their wrong ways. They can’t just really say something to somebody and expect them to change. You could yell at somebody all you want, but actions speak louder than words also in like the newest chapter, she was kind of a hypocrite.  like she didn’t like Alvin and britt for talking about those kids from the debate team but yet when she went to her friends, she literally let her friends start talking about Alvin and britney even if she did say it was fine for them to talk and even if she knew some of the stuff they were saying is true that’s kind of hypocritical. 

also, I really like how y’all do both the britney and Eleanor seen where like Eleanor is is having a nice moment with Jeanette and then britney sees it cause I don’t know this whole fanfic I’ve just felt bad for britt. maybe it’s cause I like the color pink but every time I just see something bad happened to her. I just wanna be there to hug her. 😭

i’m like really sad for her too because when the more I think about this whole fan as a whole, I realize how she really doesn’t have that big of a friend group people to influence her well because she was first friends and popular and she’s not like her regular friends I want her to get some friends of her own.

but yeah, I feel like I’m like misunderstanding at these character on a whole different side like cause she’s such a good character. I love her and I’d like room for her and theater so bad but I don’t know I feel like her and bringing stuff another shout out like they did before

and I really want her to get like out of the drama that she’s in with like all of them popular girls (I forgot there names sorry😭)

but I also want her to stop treating britt as if she can’t handle herself like YEAH I know britt wasn’t OK after the whole thing with Jessica and whatever but still I feel like telling her what help better because it’s technically britt’s fault like as much as I hate to say that, and I don’t think anyone’s really at fault it’s her fault that Eleanor has to be through fear, but like it would help bonding cause y’all both have something to bond over?

I think you need to try and see the story from Eleanor's perspective. Imagine your entire life has revolved around your sister, and despite going through your own struggles, hers always come at first priority? That would be frustrating, and as a 15 yo girl, Eleanor isn't going to handle all of that (ON TOP of the current threats she just got btw) in a completely mature and rational way. Sure, she is usually the more level-headed of the chipettes, but she is still a child. She doesn't HAVE to be rational 24/7, and she shouldn't have to be! She is also going to make mistakes and say things she doesn't mean. Hell, she was mean to Brittany in the pie chapter, but immediately apologized. There is only so much one person can take before they reach their breaking point.

I don't think she's a hypocrite for letting Dom's friends talk about Alvin and Brittany. They were talking about things the two have done in the past, and Eleanor knows the two very well. She wouldn't let anyone say things about them that weren't true. Little Jimmy and Abigail were talking about individuals that they didn't know very well. THAT was what frustrated Eleanor.

I think you can feel bad for Brittany and root for Eleanor at the same time. Yes, Brittany is going through a LOT, and her realization that her relationship with Eleanor and Jeanette isn't as strong as she'd like it to be is going to contribute to that pain, but it's not necessarily Eleanor or Jeanette's fault either. They are not obligated to make sure that she feels secure all the time. Imagine that one of your siblings is much better at recognizing your feelings and understanding what you need. You too would go to them more often than the other, even if it was unintentional. This is going to contribute to Brittany's arc later, trust.

Don't apologize for sending long asks! If I didn't answer everything it's bc I missed it or misread it but I hope this clears things up! Part Three: Before And After

Let’s talk about The Next One.

Most things are defined by a before and after, aren’t they? I’ve been talking a lot about the before, but the whole point of the concept of The Next One is about looking for the after.

No, I don’t mean that Next One, or the other one. And not Sidney Crosby either. I’m talking about the first Next One. You didn’t think hockey media took over twenty years to come up with that moniker just for Sid, do you?

In 1991, the very first Next One was Eric Lindros. Looking at the cold stats now, you might wonder about how comparatively low he is on the all-time points list to the other names I’ve mentioned, but the second you see his points per game, you’ll understand. He really lived up to the moniker. 

They called his line the Legion of Doom, and everyone was afraid of playing against Lindros. Big and broad and tough; a lean mean points machine. He was what they called a “power forward” at the time, which mostly translates to: the masculine hockey ideal. Good to take and throw punches, but a big and skilled guy that’ll light the buzzer.

Lindros is also a good guy by all accounts. Principled. Those principles were the root of the problem, I imagine, when he refused to play for the team that drafted him. He still won’t say exactly what his problem with the then-Nordiques owner was, but I trust that it wasn’t frivolous, the way everyone seemed to think it was. You don’t stir up that much of a media storm, warn the team in advance, refuse all the money in the world, and sit out your rookie season if you just hate Quebec City.

The then-Nordiques owner Marcel Aubut, for what it’s worth, seems to have turned out to be a real unsavvy character. He had to step down from being the president of the Canadian olympic committee in 2015 due to multiple sexual harassment accusations.

It was an outrage at the time, of course. Lindros ended up getting traded to the Flyers for a king’s ransom, but he was branded a diva instantly, and couldn’t shake the label for the rest of his career, even when his own front office almost killed him.

I mean that quite literally.

1999

In the early hours before dawn on April Second 1999, Keith Jones wakes up. Something’s wrong: the other bed in the hotel room is empty. His teammate is supposed to be resting after the rib injury he got last night against Nashville.

Jones creeps out of bed and into the bathroom. The best player in the league is lying in the tub. He got into the tub to warm up, but despite the warm water he’s cold and pale, pulse racing, gasping for air.

Jones goes on red alert immediately. He drags their trainer out of bed who calls their GM, Bobby Clarke.

Bobby Clarke got the silver spoon shoved down his gullet, and that’s saying something for a league that boasts as much rampant in-house nepotism as the NHL. He was one of the original Broad Street Bullies, a living Flyers legend and Hall of Famer who led them to their Stanley Cups in the ‘70s, only briefly giving up captaincy for a few seasons in order to be a playing assistant coach— yeah, you read that right, they couldn’t even wait for him to stop playing to make him a member of the front office. After he stopped playing, he was handed the GM job on a silver platter. He was pretty much the personification of an Old Boys’ Club, and Clarke’s generational shadow loomed almost as large over Eric Lindros’ tenure on the Flyers as his ego.

By the time that night in April rolled around, Lindros was still suffering from concussion syndrome after suffering two concussions in quick succession. The NHL of the time was bad at handling those anyway, but the Flyers’ medical staff seemed especially lacking, and there was enormous pressure for Lindros to play through it. Clarke had started openly belittling Lindros for sitting out the few games he did sit out to anyone who would listen, publicly calling him almost everything under the sun: a momma’s boy, a drama queen, a diva— but most of all weak and not tough enough. Frankly, he stopped just short of calling Lindros a limp-wristed pansy into a live microphone. I suppose he wasn’t called a Broad Street Bully for nothing.

Keith Jones sits next to the bathtub while the trainer talks to Clarke on the phone. The trainer then talks to their team’s orthopedic specialist. When he returns, he says that they’re going to fly Lindros back to Philly together with another injured teammate and see what the problem is there.

Jones looks at Lindros’ pale, gasping face in the tub. He knows that ever since Eric’s concussions started piling up, the team doctors have been a little too quick to wave him off. He makes a decision that will save Lindros’ life.

It takes almost three hours of arguing with the trainer for them to finally get Lindros to the hospital, but when they get there, the doctors immediately wheel Lindros into surgery. He’s lost three liters of blood by then; that’s half the blood in his body. He was already in hypovolemic shock when Jones found him in the bathtub.

It turns out that what the Flyers’ trainer waved off as a bruised rib is actually a punctured lung. If they’d put him on that flight, he would’ve been dead before reaching the cruising altitude.

Before and after are the starting point for defining most things in life. I don’t know what it’s like to define “before I almost died” and “after I almost died” in the same way Eric Lindros probably does. I can, however, say that Eric Lindros defines the exact point between before and after in the modern NHL. In many ways, he’s at the heart of all of this; the centerpiece of NHL history before and after which everything is different. With hindsight, almost everything about him carries a touch of fate and magic to it, the way things in hockey do sometimes.

The first Next One. The first star to wear 88. A Flyers legend. The reason the Avs won their Cups in 1996 and 2001. The first turning point in concussion handling. The trade that changed all future trades. I could probably save myself the effort of writing most of this post and just talk about Lindros instead, but that would probably defeat the point. You’ll see what I mean.

You’ll be unsurprised to hear that after that night in April, Lindros and Clarke’s relationship deteriorated even further. After humiliatingly stripping Lindros of the captaincy, denying him a trade to the destination he wanted, and benching him for the 2000-2001 season, Bobby Clarke finally traded Eric Lindros. Lindros had four barely-treated concussions by then, and he never returned to full form or won a Cup, bouncing around a couple of teams before retiring in 2007.
