Summer Fic Reading Challenge Card

Hello everyone! I signed up to do the summer fic reading challenge by @ficreadingchallenge and I just wanted to show my card. I did it not only because I am a reader as well as a writer, but I wanted to discover new fics and get more of an idea of fan culture.

For me, I did put some extra rules for myself :

If I can help it, I would like each square to be a different fandom. If not, that's fine.

For the most part, I want to read a fic I have not read before/read in depth.

This is entirely optional, but I would like to try writing at least one or two of these when I can.

Since I'm in a Writing Retreat now, I don't know if I will have the time, but I might post about the fics and how I thought about them. I will definitely post a master list of all the fics I read and share.

I have a lot of reading and writing to do.

#fantasy high #gorgug thistlespring #riz gukgak #cw: body horror #tbh mostly for the goblin shark jaws lmao. the rest is like. fine I think #ngl drawing like snouts on a humanoid face is kinda awesome I enjoy it #it is kinda a little bit what I aimed for with how I drew riz at first but I pulled back on it #the elephant remix for gorgug I think actually feels a bit more like orc rather than half-orc #maybe the tusks wouldn't get the same lip closure in half-orcs. tho tbh saying that sharing human and orc heritages would result in #consistent physical traits across the board is already kind of a reach I think. I imagine there would be a Lot of variations #and well. at least in spyre we don't see non-human mixed heritages so far... Ive been in my dunmeshi brain lmao #getting to see ryoko kui's art of mixed humans (dunmeshi in-universe term not irl term) is like coming home. thank u ma'am #anyways uhhh I think. so I finished side order recently

#splatoon #pearl houzuki #agent 8 #marina ida #acht mizuta #my stuff #inktober piece 2 :)#shoutout to my brother who reminded me i could replay the credits whenever because i had to get some extra refs for eight's model #and saved me from having to slog up the tower again #now if only splatoon could do that for every cutscene eh. please #i want to relive a lot of cutscenes and youre killing me for it splatoon #anyway did you know splatoon's official art has. well it wildly varies from piece to piece #they all follow like a very loose guidelines but also they all split off into their own things half the time #me with seven tabs of art trying to figure out if i want to do lines to separate pearl's fingers: so this one has lines but this one doesnt #'this one isnt relevant to this issue all fingers are splayed'#so in the end i just did whatever i wanted. i think that's a core tenet of art. do whatever you want. forever #also spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out what was etched into marina's headphones #im 98% sure it is the off the hook logo. but nothing save from booting up splatoon and checking myself would say for sure #and i didnt wanna boot up splatoon cause if i did then id inevitably be down a couple hours because 'oh well im here already. one run maybe'#but regardless!! im proud of how this came out even if i was supposed to have finished two days ago to keep with my schedule #especially the bg :) i think i did really good on that.#and eight's little smile i think thats the charm point of the whole piece and it took me about ten drafts to get it properly #i think i did good on that too.#im so enamored with splatoon rn help

When I first got into Kirby, I didn't expect to like, actually get into it. I thought it'd be like any other hyperfixation I'd had up to that point, that it would go away within a few months and I'd never think about it again.

Given I was so deeply in denial, I didn't care about being fully accurate and had some stuff that was really goofy and/or underdeveloped and unexplained. Stuff I'd made up to just work for the limited time I would be there.

Still, I came up with a few headcanons that I got attached to, and when I started realizing this was here to stay, I still chose to be stubborn and had to work backwards to keep these stupid headcanons, but adapt them into something a bit more fitting and polished.

It led to some cool stuff, like for example, my orbs aren't very magical, this was something I had settled on early on. But after I got invested, I had to think about what that actually meant and the implications of it like, how can they do this without magic? And what about that? What about this canon thing, how do I explain it?

I found decent enough explanations for all of these. But as a result of my unserious beginnings and continued stubborness, now I get really embarrassed at the time to actually talk about my headcanons and the stuff I've come up with.

Because what do you mean your Galacta Knight is half-dragon?

#what am i. 12 years old. you're making him a fucking dragon? and he barely even Actually resembles one? cringe #so so cringe. everytime i think about how im going to have to reveal that eventually i get so embarrassed #i've been by myself on my lore for almost 2 years. as in i had no friends who were into it #so i was talking to myself and people who only learned kirby stuff from me #so i never fully realized just how cringe an outsider would find it until recently #but it always made sense To Me. with what I'd come up with and how I'd made it work #i fear people wouldn't think his story and the role his dragoness plays into it is enough to warrant it.#they'll think i just did it because i wanted to. and that Is the reason too. partly.#when i started i saw that bit of text about mk's wings not being real. that they were his cape and adult orbs don't have wings #and figured gk's wings and horns mustn't be real either if that was true. but that was weird so i wanted him to actually have them.#but i'd settled on this at the time already so how would i explain him being the exception?#my solution was to just. make him a hybrid. that'd solve it. I didn't know he was a dragon at the time though. so it doesn't #show in his design a whole lot. when you look at his dragon dad he does look a lot like him. but said dragon dad also does not look like #a dragon at all. not a scaley reptile typical one. so that's Another layer to my problem #my thoughts on orb wings and horns have since changed. theoretically I could totally make gk a normal orb now. but #i also decided that the only reason he Specifically can use magic it's because of this half-dragonness 😭#another show of him being the exception. he's always stood out as odd #so there's actually no going back. i'd also have to get rid of his fuzz and who'd want that #text post

i made a rough timeline for the clone^2 au, just for my own convenience sake when dating things. some things might be out of order from the episode date, and thats also for my convenience.

September 3rd: Danny, age 14, has the accident in the lab that turns him liminal

September 10th: Danny is discharged from the hospital and given two weeks leave from school

September 24th: his sick leave ends, and Danny returns to school

October 14th: Danny sneaks into his parents' basement and releases the ghosts they have trapped in cages. Official birth of the vigilante, Phantom

November 27th: Danny fights Pariah Dark, and wins

December 24th: the Ghost Writer torments Danny

February 12th: Danny's 15th birthday

March 3rd: its been six months since Danny's accident

March 7th: Danny fights his evil future self

May 8th: Danny meets Ellie [age 15] and they become twins

December 14th: Danny finds out from his parents that he's a clone

February 12th: Danny's 16th birthday

Early-Mid April: Danny meets Damian [age 6] :)

Mid-Late April: Damian runs off for the first time, damages Danny's hands the first time

May: Damian runs off two more times in the span of three weeks, he damages Danny's hands both times.

Early June: Damian runs off one more time, damages Danny's hands again, resulting in permanent nerve damage.

Mid-Late June: Damian finally gives up on the League coming to get him and joins the Fenton Family.

July: Damian finally coaxes Danny into letting him come along with him on patrol: Wraith is born.

#danny fenton is not the ghost king #dpxdc #dpxdc crossover #clone^2 #danny fenton is a clone #this only focuses on the earlier parts of the au because those are most important imo. figuring out when danny's accident was. when he #became phantom. when he met damian. etc. is all pretty important stuff and helps me figure out ages beyond '10 year gap'#not super important stuff to much anyone else i think but its nice to have it written down as reference #i usually put danny's accident as happening at the beginning of the school year. tis convenient that way #me: hmmm when do i make danny find out he's a clone. beginning of the school year makes the most sense right???#me:....or.... i could ruin his christmas again :)#thought about increasing the amount of times damian runs off but... thats a LOT of time he's run off and i didnt want to go overboard #same thing with danny's hands. thought about hurting him more frequently but honestly taking a blade to the hand is already damaging enough #on its own. catch a blade with his hands four times would be enough to cause permanent nerve damage and also he would have learned his #lesson if it happened more frequently.#so damian runs off 4 times in the span of essentially 2 months #and four times danny catches his blade. three times he got cut. one time he needed stitches #anyways thats the timeline for now. made totally for convenience sake and no other reason #totally dont look at my google docs there’s nothing there but half forgotten wips and cfau master doc

NaNo 2024: Victory!!

Hello, world, here's my tidied desk in the aftermath of FINISHING ANOTHER BOOK!!! It took me EXACTLY four (4) pens this year (I was literally writing my wrap-up stats in the back of the notebook when the in on the last one started to go!), on 82 pages across two (2) notebooks, and preliminary* word count is 71,541!! (*subject to change once typed--I count by hand and tweak as I type haha.)

Also featuring: the NaNo Earrings, Volumes 2 and 3 of the Bitch Journal (where I whine about writerly things and also Reflect On My Process--I learned very much this year and got a lot of dopamine from it!!), the tiny watch that kept me company in my tertiary writing space, the earplugs that made working at home Tolerable (mostly), and some of the frantic scribbles on scrap paper (I got a LOT of mileage out of a dead receipt that Panera misprinted for me lol).

Now, onward to TYPING!! I would love for this not to take most of December, so I'll probably have more Unhinged Goals About That (I don't know why I am the way that I am), but! The hard part is done!!
