nooooooo is it bad bad? the iron claw?
well it has some pretty cool cinematography! I especially liked the wrestling scenes, how they rendered the make believe and the violence. But the scenario is just every theatrical biopic I dislike. dialogues that explain too much, ''what tearjerker device could I use so the audience understands that tragedy is sad'', etc. overall it really makes you question its integrity when you read about the choices the director made (aka the stories he chose not to tell because "the reality is so much worse". okay? kinda fascinating to see a director saying that fiction is lesser than reality. what are movies for then)
#aaand my final take for this sort of movie is ''you could just change the names of these ppl for your movie#if youre more interested in presenting your own take of their lives#and stories that aren't yours''#personally i love when they do that when you watch a movie and it's OBVS based on someone#but it's not the same name and so you can tell wtv you want and its fine its not really [celeb]#I RANTED#asks

God I wish, I wish, but the way I see the free schedule happening is one of two ways:
We get more teachers on more shifts, so teaching becomes a 24 hour profession OR teaching ends up with a day shift, where we get the morning kids; the afternoon shift, where we get the late risers; and the night shift, where we teach the insomniacs. Obviously, you'd need teachers who have the same natural sleeping rhythms to teach these classes, but that can kinda be done. In the college sphere, we have morning, afternoon, and evening classes, but you'd run into the same problem we get over here. The classes themselves would most likely have the same workload as the classes that are taught during the current time frame, but the main trouble is that we wouldn't ever be sure if those teachers have full classes that will pay them out until basically a few days beforehand. Classes get cancelled due to low enrollment all the time, so these teachers would be lesson planning and building classes that may not be used (which, yeah, that's a reality. It's happened to me a couple times now. Not enough students enroll in a class, and it gets cut, and the teachers don't get paid for the work we do before class even starts). We also have students who don't pay attention and sign up for the 8:00AM classes and just... show up as zombies even though they signed up for it. They're not engaged, they're not ready, and it's somehow my job to fix that.
The other one is move instruction to completely online courses so that way we can allow all students to take classes at entirely their own pace. This is the one we're closer to, and it's the one that's easier to see the practical problems of it (so hopefully we can fix the damn things!). Online learning, as we all know from our good ol' friend Covid, puts a great deal of responsibility on the student that—half the time—they weren't aware that the teacher had provided for them all along. A place and time separate from other responsibilities with which to do the work, materials to do the work, steady socialization, near instantaneous feedback and guidance when you get off-task. The classroom itself does a lot. Online learning can give you so much freedom, but as an instructor, I've seen so many students use that freedom to say "fuck all" to education. And I teach college in America. The USA doesn't make you go to college. I'm not sure how it works elsewhere, but that's how it works here. You won't get in trouble for not going or even applying. You should be in college because you've got some kind of goal for it. Therefore, you should only be enrolled in the class in the first place because you want to do something with it and should already have some kind of internal motivation to follow through. But students just don't. Not because of their sleep schedules, but because online learning requires a level of discipline and internal motivation that just isn't expected of them anymore. If a student doesn't wanna do the work, they just won't. And it's relatively fine for a college instructor, who isn't paid by how many students pass the class. Honest. I could fail the entire class and get by relatively okay as long as I'm able to defend my decision and point out the numerous amount of times I reached out to help them.
But high school and below??? They are paid and penalized by how many or how few students pass their course. Again, covid taught us this; if all of those students just choose to sit on their asses, they could get their way at the expense of people's jobs and livelihoods (for the longest time, my dad was the only worker in our house. As a high school instructor, he shoved all six of us—yes, including himself to get his master's degree so he could earn more money to support us!—through higher education by working his ass off. He was a stern teacher, too, so if the students did that to him, they would have fucked over my entire family. It's scary to think of how many other teachers' families are going through that right now because of the shift in cultural attitude about learning and going to school). And to the students, this threat to lives and livelihoods is usually not their concern, because they'll be gone after a year and why should they care? Easy A! Sit on your ass! Accuse the teacher of some shady shit! Works for me!
(Seriously. A student didn't like their grade in my dad's class, went home, ripped out their own stitches, and tried to cry to admin about my dad abusing them. I was in the room when the 'confrontation' happened, and the audacity shook me to my core. And this was years before Covid. This is only one example of some of the shit my dad has been through. The shift in attitude has been going on for years.)
Like, I get the original argument that "everyone in the world has different needs, and the world needs to adjust and accommodate to take care of it." I want that. I want a world where my sister didn't have to feel like an idiot because she's not a morning person and I am. I want a world where my sibling has the time to pursue both passion and education. I want that. However, on this side, I can only see this broken system that punishes us for trying to educate kids who don't see what, exactly, we are trying to offer them and can only see "you fuck with me and I fuck with you and no I don't give a damn about how it'll hurt you as long as I get my way." It's never enough. It's never, ever, ever enough. Even if we try to help them within the parameters we're given, it will never be enough.
Try to hire more teachers to teach in shifts to accommodate for the different and very natural sleeping patterns of students? First, find a teacher who has that same sleeping pattern and then have them on standby, only to cut their job if not enough students sign up for their class and stick to it. Hope that teacher has got a backup plan, buddy. Try to do online courses where students can learn at their own pace? In addition to all the work that goes into making a class that is both engaging and effective (I overworked myself to mental exhaustion for one online course this semester. The students who stuck it out loved it, and while that's worth it, I just hope that all the prep I did this semester will save me next semester when I gotta do it all over again), good luck making sure that the students themselves have the internal motivation to finish AND good luck also trying to be available to them so they can ask questions while also maintaining whatever little sanity you have left. That student who's up at 2AM, as is natural and good for them, may not be able to meet up with the teacher who sleeps from 12AM-5AM every night (if they like to push to the brink of their sanity).
I teach English, but I teach more than that, too. We all do. Time management, respect for others, critical thinking, problem solving and troubleshooting, and more. And I'm a college instructor. I have freedoms that not many others in the industry have. I can create my lessons liberally, I can choose OERs to use so I don't have to force my students to buy anything, I can create content that they don't have to shell extra money out for. As long as I follow the standards and guidelines, I can alter what I need when I need to for the betterment of my students. I feel so bad for the rest of my family, all of whom teach high school and are trapped within the same bureaucracy that everyone bitches about, but they, as teachers themselves, can't do anything without getting hit with a huge hammer for it by admin, by students, or by parents (and that is a WHOLE other thing). The shifts don't work entirely, and the online classes don't work entirely either (yet, yet, hopefully yet!).
If the sleeping schedule was literally the only thing, those options might be viable. Because then we'd probably have students consistently signing up for time slots so we could make them more consistently available, and we'd have students consistently doing the work without the sleeping schedule as a natural impediment because they'd be motivated to get it done. But as much of a good student, or even mediocre student who just showed up and didn't make too many waves, as you were, these are currently luxuries that we can't afford because we're trying to get everyone on the same page teaching-wise.
There's the sleeping schedule thing, yes. There are possible fixes for it, yes. However, as much as a lot of people want this, there's always going to be some bureaucracy and some people who just say "what if I hit the big red destruct button?" that it fucks it up for everyone else.
And, yeah, I'm mad about it.
In the future the way we treat different sleep schedules is going to be thought of as just as weird and barbaric as beating kids for being left-handed. People will read about how we thought certain circadian rhythms were bad and made people take melatonin and use special lights to make their circadian rhythms different, and they will think, "So sad and ignorant...everybody is just afraid of difference."
#long post#I ranted#vent#I just#the situation is at once more complicated thank you think and simple as hell#the complicated part is that there are livelihoods on the line#and there isn't exactly a way to transition to take care of it#like the MULTILINGUAL PROBLEM COULD BE#>.<#Seriously#fund to teach our teachers at least Spanish#if we started now we could get our country to be bilingual in many schools#with an initiative to teach teachers the more common secondary language we could help more students#without sacrificing teachers who've been at their jobs for 20 30 40 years#and kicking them off just before retirement hits#which would be AWFUL#Start incorperating multilingual requirements in teaching credentials so that teachers are more prepared to teach ELLs#I can't TELL you how many times it's been helpful for me to explain grammar concepts by saying#here's how its done in Spanish#and here's how it's done in English#and here's why#LIKE#YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO KNOW THE WHOLE LANGUAGE#JUST TEACH THEM COMMON TRANSFERRANCE ERRORS AND WHY THEY HAPPEN#AND YOU'D MAKE TEACHERS SO VERY MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE#TTATT#I HAVE MANY FEELINGS ON THE STATE OF TEACHING#cry

I know a company that does both these things and no surprise, when you shop there, the employees are always miserable and agitated. You should kill your managers in such situations imo. The only reason I receive treatment slightly above this is i'm lucky enough to have managers who are also bothered by these business practices. The water one is especially bad if you have heat intolerance, I was so sick regularly before I switched to a department with more leniency regarding water.
Depending on where you live these things may violate labor laws though so if you're in the same situation look into it. However in my experience any labor law violations happen without consequence regardless

Speaking as an old goth that has been fetishized since I was 12 years+ and up.... I have some of the weirdest most off putting hobbies and "collections" and being a Bruja to top it all, my house is almost a museum of bizarre shit.
Still... that's seen as "mysterious" and my weird fashion is "sexy".
People think I'm a lot younger than I really am thanks to a condition on my father's side (high collagen/regenerative levels make us look decades younger than we are even if we have "old people" health problems that don't match our young appearances. So that's another "quirky sexy thing".
Over time and with old age, I've realized that we're a "fetish" no matter what. As teens, adults and older etc. We're still seen as something "other" by people that probably have boring lives (ever notice the "type" of people into us???? Like I've had more non-goths in hot pursuit on my ass than people in our community and I know I ain't the only one.
They see us as their "type" but they sure af ain't mine or to others either. Ooooh they want a hot tiddie goth gf, oh stfu and leave us alone damn.
PS: a friend once pointed out that these fetishists are also ableists af due to the fact that they think goths are "crazy" and that we give "good fucks". So yeah, let's add that shit to these fetishistic aholes while at it. I want them away from us. Gross.
I absolutely hate HATE the fetishzision of goth girls/people. I fucking hate it. We need to go back to being weird as fuck, off-putting, odd, whatever. I like being a gross nasty goth with a teeth collection and interested with Victorian medicine and death and has messy smudged grimey makeup and cracked lips and letting spiders crawl into my hands after they fell from their web to put them back. Everything that will make people who just see goth people as just a freaky sex thing to turn their noses because jfc I'm more than that.

when u go to write a mentally ill person in ur story you are presented two options. the first option is to write your mental illness realistically as you actually experience it with all the ups and downs and people who are like you will resonate with it and feel seen. except every person who reads instagram infographics on mental health that uses the phrase narcicisst for anyone who does anything that crosses them and unironically call themself a dark empath will call you scary and tell you that youre demonizing mentally ill people
the second option is to lie and write inspiration porn for those people to get hard to
#just kidding the third option is i drive myself insane#trying to find a way to write someone like me in a way i may be respected as a human being#without shaving away the more frightening aspects of my experience or life#challenge level . impossible. i will die. or they will make youtube 3 hour long rant videos about it someday#scratchpost#txt

Attractiveness is so extremely reliant on so much more than physical appearance or body type. Being fat and hairy, being tall and skinny, short and stocky, delicate, effeminate, masculine is...that's not even the sole classification. There is so much more than what your body looks like. How do you dress? How do you smell? How does your hair look? How do you walk? How do you speak? What face do you make when you're happy? How does your laugh sound? Are you nice and personable to others? Sexiness, attractiveness is a product of everything about you, not just your appearance.
Sure, I understand, people want to feel sexy at a glance. They want to be looked at, and within seconds, be classified as drop-dead gorgeous. And maybe, *maybe* there are people out there that look physically "perfect" enough to be classified as sexy on the spot. But it's so much more complicated. Attractiveness is how you move. It's how you talk, how you walk, the sound of you, the smell of you, the feeling you give others. Attractiveness isn't exclusive to your hairline or your belly, or your jawline, or your facial hair. It is a combination of all of these things, and each aspect only heightens the other.
I promise you, focus less on your body type and how much hair you have on your body, and focus more on everything else. Smell good, take care of your hair, be genuine and love the world and the people you meet, be just a little kind to yourself in the process, and people will love you.
I will tell you, if I see a fat hairy man with pretty hair, fruity smell, and a lovely laugh with a jolly humor, I'm gonna be thinking about running a train on him for hours.
I think there's a real tragedy in the way straight men don't see themselves the same way that people who are attracted to men see them. If you ask a straight man to describe what an attractive man looks like, there's very little variety - the masculine male ideal is tall, broad-shouldered, square-jawed with a cleft chin and built of sculpted muscle. The stereotypical image of an Alpha Male, someone whom he could respect, and envy.
And sure, there are plenty of women, gay men and people of all sorts who are attracted to to this specific type, even exclusively attracted to it, there is so much more variety in this, both in the tastes and their subjects.
The stereotype of "hot wife, ugly husband"-couples was drawn from the observations of straight men, from their own perspective. Women going after men that men find unattractive makes no sense to them, and they figure that women are willing to overlook being ugly if a man's funny, smart or rich enough. If a woman insists that she's attracted to a specific man who isn't attractive by their standards, they'll assume that she's lying.
The tragic part is when a man who believes himself to be ugly grows bitter over this, developing a foul personality which people do find repulsive, and then uses their repeated experiences of being romantically rejected as proof that they're physically unattractive, insisting that surely women would overlook his heinousness if only he was tall and muscular enough, and had the right bone structure. The self-feeding vicious cycle of being a bitter incel is born.
The thing about "ugly men with a good personality can still be attractive" is that they're usually not even ugly. Some people do genuinely find fat and hairy men, thin and delicate men, short men and feminine men attractive. There's as much variety as in cheese, you can't compare aura to brie. And just like in cheese, as long as you're not toxic, somebody's into that. You just need to find the right wine to compliment it.
#i ranted#this is a little incohesive#but i hope someone sees this and Understands what it means to be attractive#its not just your body or how skinny or fat you are#treat yourself and others well and people will love you#and also probably want to fuck you

Honestly, it can stand as it's own post. The tobacco industry is evil they want to get you smoking yadda yadda you've heard it a million times and like. I think we hear it so much but that a lot of the younger generations in the us dont really get why there's such an aggressive anti smoking campaign, I think people buy into the narrative South Park has spun about it "the cigarette companies are all upfront about it and people still chose their service and everyone against smoking are just obsessive fascists" and it's like. Genuinely, the cigarette companies are some of the most evil entities this world has ever seen. From knowing cigarettes caused cancer before anyone else and lying about it, to being the reason the majority of 50s television existed (shows like I Love Lucy existed to sell you cigarettes) to specifically making flavors of cigarettes and cartoon mascots to sell to kids. And I'm not saying that if you smoke cigarettes you're bad but I do really want the tobacco industry abolished and have it's wealth distributed to the society it controlled for so fucking long.
Seriously, go read about it. They did shit that manipulated the country, politics, and the lives of your parents and their parents, and likely their influence is affecting your life in this day and age still.
#i say this as a bitch who vapes#its not the act of smoking thats wrong here#its the industry the companies and the fucked up shit tey did#ranting

so when straight people ask me why I say I’m “queer” or “gay” instead of sharing my actual identity as a panromantic demisexual non-binary sapphic queer I just tell them “ok look, when you’re talking to someone who isn’t local and they ask you where you’re from and you either say the name of the largest city nearby or ‘town name, suburb of large nearby city’ so they can get some geographical context of where you’re located right, bc they’re probably not going to know the name of the little town you actually live in.”
but if you’re talking to a local you can say the name of your actual town bc they have a greater chance of knowing where/what that is.
ok well when I’m talking to a straight person I start with queer bc chances are they aren’t as familiar with the context of all the little towns in that big queer city and need gps (gay positioning system) to find me.
if I’m talking to another queer person and I say I live in a suburb of gay city in a town called panromantic on the demisexual side of the tracks which is in the county of queer and I live off the intersection of non-binary and sapphic, they’d probably be able to find me with little to no problems, make sense?
#personal rant lol#like saying queer or gay is so much easier sometimes#if I say anything else sometimes I get the confused dog head tilt and I’m just like ok ok I’m gay#lgbtq community#lgbtqia#demisexual#non binary#sapphic#lgbtqia+#queer#panromantic

i used to be so good at writing strong, thoroughly-researched, thoroughly-edited essays.
as a kid in hs, my teacher literally came up to me, holding my 40 page essay on the intersection of the European witch hunts and capitalism/exploitation/gender roles (it was supposed to be 7 pages...whoops) and went like "this is literally a master's-degree level thesis. what are you doing?? you could literally use this as your final dissertation in a master's program, what the fuck."
NOW??? NOW?? you'd think I'd be oh so skilled. but alas. i can barely piece together two ideas. adhd skill-regression is so so real. im SOBBING

they'll fund a genocide and let their poor regions be destroyed. don't fucking forgive them for that.
my hometown is completely gone from what pictures i can find of it, i have not heard from my family (including aunts, uncles, parents, one sibling, and a grandparent), and the infrastructure in the mountain communities is wiped out. i cannot stress how catastrophic this is, or how difficult it will be for these communities to build back. i am angry, and scared, and heartbroken by everything that's happened.
and our government is spending it's money to fund a genocide.
free palestine, and don't be complicit. realize that this is not something happening that doesn't affect you--although it shouldn't take this to care about the deaths of thousands of people anyway.
