tommy must live in a perpetual state of confusion over buck

do you think the longer buck allies the more tommy realises that "oh, he really is like this but he's definitely some flavor of queer"? because i see tommy maybe gently testing buck's jealousy to see what it'll take to make him break

oooookay once again this is not a snippet (sorryyyyy) but is more me attempting to understand wtf is going on in tommy's head throughout all this that he keeps "sure, okay"-ing himself into ridiculous situations with buck, so apologies for just unloading the contents of my brain on you

there are a few things i've been chewing on in terms of figuring out how tommy reacts to the buck of it all, which i hope will make it make sense that i actually don't think tommy pushing or testing for jealousy is on the cards in this fic (although i do love the idea!)

so first of all, this is a younger tommy than we've seen interact with buck in canon (of course), so whatever happened to make him Like That in the breakup hasn't happened yet (and won't, because i am a slut for a HEA). he's newly out and in my experience, a lot of newly out people, particularly people who are a bit older have something of a second adolescence. so yeah while this means he's incredibly horny (horny enough to let a self-proclaimed straight guy give him the absolute best sex of his life) it also means he just wants to have fun!! and buck is SO. MUCH. FUN. he's spent so long so tightly controlled that he's trying really hard to just go with the flow.

second, when i say newly out tommy, i mean newly out. like, it's one thing to "stop lying about who i am" - to me, there's a non-zero chance that just means "stop making up girlfriends" rather than "actually grapple with the life-long process of coming out (again and again and again)". so in my head (and it might come up in the fic, idk yet) the scene early on where he tells buck he doesn't want the cute girl's number because he's gay is probably one of the first times he actually said the words out loud. which ties into...

third, we know tommy was work friends with sal (at least and again, don't know that it'll come up in the fic but for the record, he 100% had a monstrous crush on him, like it made him ILL how much he wanted sal, i will hear no arguments), and that he developed good - again, work-based - friendships with hen and chim, but i feel like for a deeply closeted guy under dadt with a shitty childhood buck might be his first actual friend who knows all of him and likes him. spends time with him. doesn't care that he's gay. actively supports his gayness. doesn't recoil and in fact actively encourages tommy to talk about it. so i think tommy is just...deeply, deeply grateful for this confusing train wreck of a man

fourth, while i think there are definitely times that tommy thinks "he...he's flirting with me, right? is something gonna happen here?" this is a guy who has spent his entire adult life not looking at that kinda thing. not letting himself wonder if a guy (particularly a friend) is into him. or really, even if he's into them. he's really, really good at compartmentalising, and buck's pretty insistent that he's straight, so tommy's taking that at face value. hey, buck makes compelling arguments ("tommy, straight men have prostates too!")

aaaaand there we have the contents of my brain as it relates to one tommy kinard. even in my own incredibly stupid AUs, i am frankly obsessed. i want to gnaw on him. i'll settle for having buck do it instead.

ps this is no hate to your writing or anything. it's basically just me commenting on their actions as if it was a tv show or smth.

in my very personal non biased oscar opinion, the reader is exaggerating. oscar may have lied but he didn't manipulate her and it was very obvious to her that he was hurting. they slept together out of both their consent and reader is putting the entire blame on him as if she didn't play a heavy heavy part. especially considering that lily was the one who broke up w oscar, reader made it seem like it was all his fault. lily was partially controlling imo and she wouldn't openly communicate with oscar until something got a little out of hand. she literally accused him of cheating like???? "Or maybe you were so used to Oscar’s lying and manipulation that you couldn’t imagine someone talking to you just for the sake of friendship." this pissed me off sm like why is reader so annoying (don't hate me lol) and then the whole her saying she wasn't good enough for oscar like yk damn well that's not what he meant lol. personally they both were in the wrong but the reader hates personal confrontation and put the ENTIRE thing on him like girl wtf.

anyways girl you ate so hard with this fic truly idk who to suport and be like omg you're so nice like every single person is sm in the wrong like help they need to really breathe and understand eachother but yeah i love this fic and your work and i love youuu. mwuah

I am so glad you sent this because I feel like you 100% got at what I was trying to do!

My whole goal with this fic was to create a story in which each character is simultaneously innocent and guilty. So yeah Oscar is not the best boyfriend to Lily but he doesn’t cheat and yes he does sort of use reader but also reader sort of uses him back. Lily is a horrible communicator but also has been third wheeled in her relationship for so long. Reader kind of has been the backup girl but she has also allowed it to happen and used Oscar in her own way.

I wanted to make this fic as realistic as possible in that way—just showing the complicated messiness of these situations as they happen in real life, rather than just leaning into the “good guy bad guy” trope by making Oscar/Lily awful while Lando/reader are perfect. I feel like that’s the undercurrent of the song Wildflower itself, too: the speaker/Billie is crushed by the weight of what she’s done but also grappling with asking what was so wrong about it in the first place.

Also you’re 100% right about the reader being another character. I used to do x OC fics when I was younger but people don’t like those as much as x readers, but it’s nearly impossible for me to actually write a blank slate reader :/ so they’re basically OCs with no name/face

Unfortunately, if you’re annoyed with reader, it may get worse before it gets better. Not to spoil anything but Lando is being a bit sus, and who’s the real manipulator here?

I want to put it out there too that I’m not offended at all if people don’t like one of my stories or characters and I welcome constructive criticism and feedback! I’ve been a writer for nearly 10 years now (there’s so much lore) so I have thick skin. Obviously be respectful (if you just send something that says “your story sucks kys” I will just delete it) but I welcome all discussion and opinions on my work.

So I read @aughtpunk 's cotl forgiveness au in like 2 days and now I'm hyperfocusing on it. I just keep thinking of cute little things. Particularly between Shaun and kallamar. Aughtpunk probably shouldn't read this.

Like they have regular are-we-still-engaged chess matches. The first time kallamar wins, they regretfully tell the others the engagement is off. Most everyone is like, you were engaged?? How?? Since when?????? The next day they're engaged again. It great and not at all confusing. Pretty soon no one is sure if the engagement is even real or not. Don't ask kallamar, he's not 100% sure either. Like they play games to see who's responsible for the flowers or menu decisions but is it real? Half the group is sure it isn't until it's the night before the wedding and Holy shit this is actually happening wtf and Shaun is just so disappointed in them. Kallamar is too, right my love? Kallamar is like, yeah, I can't believe they doubted the seriousness of this situation. Internally he's screaming. Shaun also didn't think it was that serious but over time he got sick of people shit talking kallamar to his face so he was like, now I gotta marry him in the biggest most amazing wedding ever. I just gotta.

I also just like the idea that they would use games to settle most disagreements. They watch eachothers strategies and moods to figure out how serious they need to be. If it's a lighthearted thing then they joke the whole time and whoever wins, wins. Gg. If it's something more important to one than the other then they give a good game but let that person win since clearly this is a significant matter. If it's an important matter to both, they use the game as something of a distraction. I can't kill you for not understanding exactly where I'm coming from by magically reading my mind if I'm too busy trying to figure out if the move you just made is even legal. By the end of the match, whomever wins, it comes out as more of a compromise.

They do have this problem where if they don't have a clear goal for a game, it can escalate into terrible ends. Like Shaun makes a flirty double entendre about calamari, kallamar says something gross about cannibalism, suddenly its 3 am, they're in the kitchen with heket who is waaaay too happy about cooking some of her brother's flesh with the intention of giving it to his ex-fiancee to eat (shaun being grossed out by cannibalism made him lose), and questioning all of their life choices.

Oh and after wedding thought. Shaun asks narinder for a life flower (that what I've been calling them in my head). Narinder is grossed out but Shaun gives this whole speech about how they aren't gonna use it now, he just wants to show kallamar that he did notice that he wasnt sure how serious he was about the wedding but he is very serious about wanting to have this life together with him and growing their family together. Narinder does reluctantly give him a flower. Little while later kallamar asks for the same thing. His explanation is a little more based in logic. They've talked about children before and he's probably gonna be the one carrying them so it just makes sense for him to have the flower. Everyone is like aww they're gonna present these flowers to eachother and it's gonna be cute or something. Meanwhile kallamar is confirming that he and his husband aren't needed for anything else tonight and maybe the flower might work if brewed into a tea but eh it's better to not chance it and just. Fucking. Eats it. Right there. Infront of God (poor jake) and everybody. Did his husband see that? No, of course not. That would prevent any miscommunication drama. It's like, dude, did you guys plan on that or...? And kallamar is like, we've had some of the most important discussions about this already, I fail to see why we can't start trying now. And then he leaves to go spend his wedding with Shaun in private and now the whole family has no idea what to do with themselves. They did not need this information.

I also have thoughts for their kids. First set is twins. They are cute. They look like normal lambs just tinted blue. At first. They actually have tendrils they hide amongst their wool. They're also good at team hunting. If you see the both of them, it's safe. If you only see one, it's a distraction, turn around, you are being ambushed.

These are just fun little thoughts I had. Feel free to ignore me.

And Louis talking about how much Armand looked like a BOY playing dressup (just like Claudia)--he's so condescending sometimes, this 33-y/o who had to grow up too soon; vs. an ancient vampire who'll forever look too young. U_U

Oh how the tables have turned; but history still repeats itself!

It's so wild how with Loustat, Les was the one pretending to be a regular human, in his awkward frumpy clothes; while Lou was struggling to hold on to his high class status during their bidding war over Miss Lily ("admiration and emasculation"). But with Loumand, Louis' the one tryna pass as a regular human in his layman clothes, while Armand "masquerades" as Gentleman Death.

Both times, Lou has to contend with the power imbalances of two overpowered vampires outclassing him over & over again. But while Lou was hostile & offended by Les; he's scared & meek with Armand.

He's been humbled & broken down so much, and he knows firsthand what older/ancient vampires are capable of--

--esp. since Armand confronted Louis intending to threaten him (b4 he realized how pretty Lou was and changed his mind, LOL).

But I do wonder how Louis sensed his "ancient power" exactly? Other than Claudia he's only been around Les & Daciana; so how could he tell? (I bet Daciana's as old Armand.) This was something that always irked me in the books, cuz TWMBK weren't sensed by Lestat until Marius brought him right up to them. Is it cuz Les was too young, or TWMBK just didn't bother projecting their presence to anyone?

Cuz we know Armand was always sending out signals with his Mind Gift (but he's a pro at it, ofc).

Sometimes it seems humans can sense the undead better than the undead can; they can just tell something's OFF.

But I'm just curious exactly what Louis was feeling from Arma--oh wait!

Lily liveblogs: Thunderbolt Fantasy 4x01

In which Shang Bu Huan is simultaneously incredibly perceptive and as dense as a post; Lang Wu Yao and Xing Hai realize you can't go home again (welcome to hell); and Ba Wang Yu is a badass.

NOTE: As far as I know, there is still no news from Crunchyroll about an official English release, and I'm very grumpy about this. Please do not let TBF become this season's Girls Band Cry.

I'm always a sucker for a soft piano version of the main theme and the opening scene did not disappoint. In this house, we stan a cold open.

(that said, this gives me major flashbacks to the opening of S3, which makes me wonder how deliberate that was)

the cinematography in this scene is GORGEOUS. The light! the bamboo! everything is perfect!

love the establishing shot with the bored server, especially since you just know it's gonna be relevant later

also love how we don't see who Shang is pouring drinks for until Juan Can Yun shows up!

can I just say how much Juan Can Yun has really grown up since we first met him? He may not know what's going on, but his heart is sincerely in the right place, and he's doing his best to provide comfort and support to the guy who taught him what it meant to be a truly good person.

as usual, Shang blames himself for Lang's disappearance, never mind that Lang had his own issues and isn't the most communicative ever.

also love that neither Shang nor Juan has any idea wtf happened to Lang in S3, so from their perspective, he just fucked off into a collapsing cave for no reason... except that Shang has figured out that he went after Xing Hai in the demon realm. Which is 100% true, just not in the way he expects.

Shang is dealing with trauma in his usual way, which is to isolate himself from the people he cares about.

He's also realized his naivete in assuming that he could fob the Index off on someone else in Dong Li or get rid of it entirely--he's stuck with this thing he doesn't want and he's the only one who can handle it (because every time he tries anything else, people get hurt or killed). the problem is that it will consume his whole life, and then what? He doesn't bring it up, probably because it's too depressing to contemplate.

Shang doesn't mention his name directly, but the official summary makes it clear he's thinking of Bai Lian when he talks about how he promised to keep the Index safe.

Dan Fei is rousing both the spiritual and secular authorities to prepare for war. Here's hoping the Dong Li emperor is better than the Xi You one or else we're in real trouble!

She's not even in this episode, but I'm still so proud of her, because like Juan, she really has grown up tremendously since we first met her. And you can tell Juan really loves her! THESE KIDS, MAN.

(maybe the Dong Li emperor can take over the government when Xi You and Dong Li are reunited??)

war with the demons is coming and everybody knows it.

Juan means well, but there is no fortress the Hu Yin Shi can build that is strong enough to keep the Index safe and Shang knows it.

where is home for Shang, I wonder?? He's been on the run and on the road for so long, I don't think he even knows, even though Juan assumes Shang's home is Xi You.

(shang is never going to settle down, he will always wander, "home" is where he is, not a fixed place. but does HE know that? his reaction to Juan suggests that he does.)

Juan's line about Shang's family is so typically him... he's trying to be kind, but he messes it up because he doesn't know the situation.

I am tremendously pleased that Shang doesn't have a family (that he knows about) because it maintains his archetype as as a perpetual wanderer passing through rather than fixing him in time and space. From the beginning, he's always been alone, which is personally tragic, but narratively fitting. Rather than inheriting a destiny, he's entirely self-made.

Also, this means no more family members get fridged, because I'm so tired of that.

(Lang is the one with the family drama in this show, remember)

but I think this is one of those moments that we'll revisit later, because it's technically true, but there's so much more than that that we don't yet know about! this is just the tip of the iceberg!

I feel like this is also a key character moment for Juan, inasmuch as it shows how much he values family and social connections and ties (which he has obtained via his relationship with Dan Fei)

but oh, the awkwardness

fortunately interrupted by Juan getting called away by his duties

you can tell that Juan has really settled down, because he pays the bills--remember when Shang tells his imposter that the most important thing in life is paying your own bar tab, lol.

Juan mentions a hot spring and a inn nearby and I just want everyone to imagine the next part taking place there while Shang is naked and wet, because it's such a great mental image. I assumed Pili would have done this if they could have gotten away with it, but alas, budget.

shang always being able to see through lin's disguises gets me every time, as does lin's rueful laugh.

me: GET A ROOM YOU TWO

(also, there is a rule that says servers at restaurants in this show are never what they seem, it's practically law by now)

shang doesn't lecture lin about his behavior, just says he can see where Juan is coming from, lol

Lin's motivation of avoiding boredom is brought up because it's fundamental to understanding his character - - everything he does stems from it.

lin is 100% correct when he says shang is boring and tedious. he's narratively uninteresting. the Index is literally weighing him down. but shang can't/won't listen.

Shang: no.

lin: what, not even a "lol, no". you ARE depressed.

Lin and Juan are basically saying thesame thing in different ways, lol.

"to become a hermit and coop yourself up in the middle of nowhere and devote your whole life to protect the Index" is Lin's idea of hell -- it's basically what the Hu Yin Shi are already doing, but without the community/structure/support

also goes back to the idea of power as ISOLATION, which we have also seen with Locust (more on this later)

Lin is basically saying "play with me!" in the most direct way possible for him, it's very cute

shang telling lin he's not like him is so funny because of all the ways they're similar (which shang would really prefer not to think about, lol)

Just like Shang, Lin is not willing/able to compromise his principles, so their parting is inevitable

Lin has always been very clear that his interest in Shang is conditional on Shang being "fun", so this isn't a surprise

Of course Lin, as a professional storyteller/liar who is keenly attuned to narrative "rules" (and is voted "Most Likely To Break The Fourth Wall"), puts it in terms of tales and stories. If Shang is dropping out of the story, Lin will keep going on.

HOWEVER, Lin is also very clear that this separation is temporary, and that Shang will not be able to resist the call to adventure in his blood (very interesting given what else blood is said to do in this episode). And he's right! Shang is at a low point at the moment, but he's constitutionally incapable of minding his own business when problems drop into his lap. It's innately a part of who he is; he CANNOT stay in one place for long, he can't stop being a hero. And Lin will join him when he rejoins the narrative, because he is acutely attuned to Shang's activities/a keen judge of narrative drama. and it's something they'll do together!

in his own indirect way, Lin is saying that he'll be there when Shang is ready, and that pleases my shipper heart immensely.

shang: "GOD, I need a drink."

the question is what is he going to do next? I think, given the theme of this episode, returning home, and the mention of Tian Ming, means that he's going to somehow end up in Xi You, because it's the one thing he doesn't want to do--and therefore needs to. I'm just not sure how, but I know it has to happen before the end of the story, even if it's not immediate.

The other option is that he goes to the demon realm, because all of the plot threads are converging on the demon realm in this season, so it's inevitable that he'll end up there too

Beyond that, I'm not sure--he could spend time with Dan Fei, Juan Can Yun, and the Hu Yin Shi, but it feels like he has cut ties with them as well and is determined to do his own thing. We'll see how far he gets with his self-imposed isolation before the narrative drags him back; I have a feeling it won't be very long.

I love how the demon realm looks like the bottom of the ocean with all the filtered light and corals and algae. plus they can use the green screen directly and save money!!

Azibelpher is virtually phoning it in because Lang will attack him otherwise, lololol

I appreciate the confirmation that Ling Ya is the manifestation of Lang's demonic powers, because it confirms what I've always suspected. Also it makes the second movie 1000% times more poignant and heartbreaking in retrospect, so good job there.

If Xing Hai is disgusted Azibelpher fucked a human, she is very wisely not saying anything, lol

Ling Ya is once again shielding Lang, so he can be human. This is not going to last, but I love him so much for trying.

Like Shang, Xing Hai was ashamed of going home because she felt she wasn't worthy enough, but now she is in Azibelpher's service and therefore protected in spite of her low status among demons. The only one who is allowed to toy with her is her boss, and you can tell he's enjoying her reactions to the changes in the demon realm.

meanwhile, lang is supposedly "home" in a foreign land that is actively hostile and yet somehow familiar on a deep innate level. welcome to hell, kid.

we also get confirmation of something I've wondered about for a long time, which is that "demons" and "demon gods" are two different classes of entities in spite of their similar names. The demon gods are living weapons the demons summoned from another world to fight the humans, which makes them the direct parallels of the Shen Hui Mo Xie, which also came from another world and are the only thing that counter them!!!

also like the Shen Hui Mo Xie, as soon as the war was over, they were misused on their own side

also, this demon god looks JUST LIKE CTHULU LMAO

I thought one of the demons got turned into a skull, but on replay, he was already a skull before that. Still not having a great day, though.

love the shot of Azi et al. on the cliff which establishes the sheer SCALE of this production.

anyway, the demons have "peace" because they're too busy placating the eldritch horrors they summoned to fight each other. This was the idea of the demon king, who I'm sure we'll meet shortly.

also, please savor the irony of Xing Hai waking up a demon god in S1, only to learn that the demons have spent the last 200 years desperately trying to keep them down

the demons are stuck living with the side effects of the war just as the humans are - two halves of the same coin

Xing Hai is mad because she doesn't like that the demons are now suffering the same fate they tried to inflict upon the humans and are stuck with the consequences--she believes in hierarchy, and in that hierarchy, even the lowliest demon is superior to a human, and therefore is prey

"peace" comes at a price--it's not really peace at all, it's stasis/paralyzing, constant fear of oblivion. Like Lin, Azi finds this boring, so he's naturally looking to stir up shit (this is also why he spends so much time fucking around with humans, btw, and, why, like Lin, he also is acutely aware of narrative rules and drama)

Okay, I was not expecting this particular musical choice for cyborg grandpa's scene (Ling Ya's theme iirc). I guess now I don't have to feel bad that Lou Zhen Jie trapped him in the other world, because he wasn't actually trapped for long.

in keeping with his dual nature, cyborg grandpa has one red eye and one green eye

his character bio on the official site says he has a connection to the other craftsman grandpa in this show, which pleases me immensely, because symmetry

love that the screen separating him from the world is literally how Locust interacts with his followers in the Order, it's so perfect for him side note: the "You" character in "Emperor You" is the same as in "Xi You", which means "secluded"; the fact that the emperor is named for his most prominent trait is also very pleasing to me, even if it's not as obvious in English. TBF is really not subtle with these sorts of things!!!

I've said this before, but Locust's isolation from the world is key to his powers, but that doesn't stop him from making his presence felt in other ways

cyborg grandpa wants to go to the demon realm but needs protection; locust wants to learn more about the demonic arts which are tied to heretical arts (another confirmation that pleases me--once again, humans and demons aren't so different!)

FIELD TRIP TO THE DEMON REALM!!!

it's very fitting that Wasp and Spider are introduced at the same time and come as a set because they are direct opposites in every respect. Spider has a fantastic entrance with his chains, but Wasp/Ba Wang Yu has my whole heart.

Her ethos is simple and direct; his is subtle and cunning; she's a butch powerhouse and he's a misogynistic twink. Of course they hate each other and immediately duke it out.

Locust approves because he's a terrible boss, lol

Ba Wang Yu gets her character poem first because she isn't hiding anything at all. She isn't stupid; she simply doesn't give a shit because she's so strong she can steamroll anything that's thrown at her. Did I mention I love her?

seriously, after Dan Fei's poem had that whole "meekness as a woman" crap, it's refreshing that Wang Yu's poem is almost literally "I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR".

I do like spider's clone attack, though. And the chains are very neat. But I'm so distracted by Wang Yu that I barely notice him.

apparently locust has his own stash of magic swords and… axes?? Of course Wang Yu gets the ax! This is also why spider's puppet was exhibited with two different swords, lol.

good thing locust magicked them so they don't get fried like jun po.

you can tell from the way the camera focuses on spider for a second that he's planning on backstabbing wasp in the demon realm.

anyway, Wasp and Spider are almost certainly doomed, and I'm betting that they're either going to kill each other because their respective ethoses cancel each other out--neither strength nor strategy is inherently superior. The alternate is that they die together fighting a common enemy, which would also be karmically fitting, but regardless, I'll be very surprised if they make it out of this season alive.

which sucks because I love Wang Yu so much, but such is life in the murder puppet fandom, especially for the bad guys

I love that the monster of the week looks so cute and harmless, but is supposedly ferocious, lol. love how it conveniently waits for Azi to finish exposition before attacking

Bai Lian with a new sword in the OP was not on my bingo card, but he puts it in a shrine and walks away. considering that the OP is named for a famous sword in Japanese legend, I'm really curious where this is going.

okay, so the opening is great actually, love Shang sitting at the table with lang, only to be alone--I thought he was going to see other people (lin?) but no, still a gut punch. shanglang shippers can have a little angst as a treat.

lot of spiderwebs when the Divine Swarm is introduced (including Lin as Piao Miao, lol)

Locust and Chao Feng also have their mirror images, hmmm

Xing Hai shattering the mirror with her whip suggests that she is going to have an interesting arc this season, "shattering" her illusions. love the reflections of the other demons in in the glass behind her.

Lang is wrapped in chains and calls on his powers via Ling Ya to summon lightning and flames and turns into a demon to escape them… I thought it was a third eye, but I think he's got a horn instead. which is so funny because the demons made fun of him last season for not having one-- half-demon = 1 horn, I guess. Anyway, demon prince Lang sighted, this is not a drill.

also am I a terrible person for immediately thinking of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" here

omg all those eyes!!!!

credits end with Shang fighting a whole army of those monsters from the end of the episode alone, only for Lin to drop down out of the sky in the most dramatic way possible and stand back to back with him. considering that Azi makes a big deal about how ordinary humans can't defeat them, this is very significant. also, unclear if this will actually happen or if it's just thematic, but either way, this encapsulates Shang and Lin's dynamic very nicely--Shang might complain, but Lin will be there when he needs him (he just has to accept him!) also inevitable that both of them will end up in the demon realm, though again, perhaps not under these exact circumstances.

I feel like the opening song is very slow and melancholy, and gets cut off just as it gets going so I'm looking forward to the full version. Nothing will ever top "His/Story" but I don't hate it.

will we get a real ED this season? probably not, but I live in hope

anyway, this was a LOT to unpack, and I feel like I've barely skimmed the surface, but there you go. can't wait to do this all over again next week.

Their rebel group is really more of an anarchist commune in the mountains than a proper 'rebellion'

I mean they're literally called the 'Isolates', they're not trying to rejoin and stir up trouble in society

He's in such shock that he just sort of gets ready for bed at like 5PM and stares at the ceiling

The set-up of this commune is SO much different from the second draft lol in that one, they're half-based in this enormous stone cathedral built into the side of the mountain (created long before they arrived, it's a whole thing), this time they're a bunch of wooden buildings on a plateau

Ending Thoughts:

This is so interesting! I have a pretty clear picture of what this story winds up being in the second draft (which was written outside of November and so won't factor into this project like Below's rewrite, though I definitely want to go back and read it one of these days), but unlike with Below, there seems to be quite a bit of difference between how the story plays out here. Some of the worldbuilding is different - the mountain range has a different name, the Isolates don't actually do much rebelling, their set-up is much less 'society hidden away in a treacherous mountain range' and more 'commune set up somewhere far from other communities'. Seth and Roland were diplomats rather than spies. Another thing of note, the writing quality has made another leap! Yes, the dialogue is much more stylized, but in general the phrasing of things flows more smoothly, grammar is neater. We're definitely without our over-the-top narrator offering up input every other sentence, but it's still a really interesting read!

Context:

(disclaimer: some details may be inaccurate because I don't 100% remember what happened, and I'm trying to recall it to the best of my ability)

in the first server, I was talking about the pumpkin the gentleman situation because I was frustrated at how people were handling it(mainly through unneeded jokes about a particular video that had nothing to do with the overall situation), and at first, everyone was agreeing with me on what I said, but after I brought up the melanie martinez situation (because the same shit was happening to that situation too, mainly calling her "felony fartinez" and the ungodly amount of rape threats getting thrown around), they started to switch up on me and even started to make jokes about the ptg situation themselves just to confirm that their opinion changed.

Frustrated, I ended up leaving the server and blocking a few people that were in the server, splitting from them in the process, and I was left emotionally dysregulated for the rest of the day afterwards.

A few hours later, I unblocked one of my friends and apologized to him for what happened, and he said I was allowed to come back as long as I didn't talk about the ptg situation because everyone was uncomfortable with talking about it entirely.

Now, I know this probably sounds unreasonable, and I'm not saying he was in the wrong for this because he didn't know what happened himself, but I feel like the people in the server should've just communicated beforehand that they weren't comfortable with the discussion of the ptg situation, instead of pretending to agree up untill the mention of the melanie martinez situation, because that just sounds like they switched up on me to trigger me on purpose, so naturally, that set me off, like a lot.

So I got back on the server and started mass-blocking everyone, and then I left after that. The stress from that + some unrelated stuff that was going on sent me into a spiral that led to me threatening to kill myself (and just to clarify: when it happened I was experiencing suicidal urges, so yes, I was actually gonna go through with it). I put an end date in my bio on all of my social medias and left it at that.

Two of the people from the server tried messaging me, but because i was in a split from them, I told them to fuck off and leave me alone. This will be important later.

I'm just honestly lucky that I had an irl friend who was staying the night that day, because they saw what was going on and went to check up on me, same with my mom and sister. That, and also seeing ptg's apology video where he explained a few things and took accountability for the things he did wrong, helped me calm down and regulate to a point where I could think logically. Realizing what I just did, I decided that maybe it was time for me to get help.

So after a bit, I came back to the server and apologized for what happened, and let everyone know that I was voluntarily admitting myself to the psych ward because I realized the mental state I was in was getting worse.

Let's just say people weren't too happy about it, because they all started to chew me out, mostly through condescending comments and yelling at me over what happened. This caused me to dysregulate again, and I tried everything I could to get them to understand what I was going through, while repeatedly saying that I was sorry because I didn't want the friends I genuinely cared about to leave me (abandonment issues am I right). I brought up how I was getting admitted to the psych ward, and one of them said "great for you" in a condescending tone, just as an example of the condescension being thrown around in there. They were also telling me that I was trying to manipulate them because of the amount of times I said "i'm sorry."

one of my friends was trying to de-escalate the situation, but the people in the server kept pushing and making it worse. I eventually left the server crying, and the friends in question was comforting me the whole time, which helped me a lot.

I took some time to reflect on what happened while I was at the ward, and even after I was discharged, and after a few weeks, I realized that it wasn't entirely my fault, and in fact, it's no big surprise why I did what I did.

the people in the server manipulated me into believing that I could trust them with whatever opinion I had in mind, and then they decided to switch up on me with no warning, triggering me into an episode that led me to do something bad and out of character (because before this I haven't threatened myself since 2023), and then they blamed me for what happened, further worsening my mental state.

If that doesn't sound like reactive abuse, idk what does.

The reason why I say that is because they KNEW I had bpd, I disclosed it to everyone the same day I got diagnosed, and they all acted supportive of it, and then used that to their advantage when I was at my most vulnerable to emotional dysregulation.

Of course, I'm aware that threatening suicide isn't okay regardless, and it's triggering for some people, but at the same time, I couldn't think logically when it happened, so obviously I acted in a way that was unreasonable. I am trying to work on myself a bit more to prevent something like that from happening again, and I'm also taking mood stabilizers to help with the emotional dysregulation.

I'm just extremely frustrated at how stigmatized BPD is, because I feel like what happened was because of the stigma, and what they did just basically contributed to it, and I also feel like some of them were uneducated about bpd, which also contributed to what happened. But overall i'm still shaken from what happened, and I'd rather not be associated with that server anymore.

They did end up banning me after what happened, so in retaliation, I made my own server, which has better security measures and more strict rules regarding ableism and triggering content than the last one. A few of my friends are currently in that server, and I'm planning to publish the official link for it here on Tumblr and on youtube after I post this.

Constructive criticism on this question is welcome, because I want to know if I was in the wrong here, and if so if there are things I can do to improve myself should I be in another situation like this.

MAP/SIDE STUFF

Shez just said that everyone who gets killed in the war "is standing in our way." Imagine comparing self-defense to "getting in our way." Yikes for that characterization compared to how concerned GW!Shez is about Claude's aggressive decisions.

Lamo, Mercedes is like wtf am I doing here fighting the Kingdom and Annie? 

Aww, Marianne (and Dorothea) are like the only two who realize they're fighting other people and not just being all murder happy like the rest. 

Dimitri just got put on par with Holst and Caspars dad by Balthis, kind of, unofficially best Kingdom warrior? 

We're addressing the Ferdinand and Hubert subplot again. Which is good. It's by far the most interesting part of SB. Though, it's just a repeat of what we've seen from it before.

Ok, they're adding some different stuff which is interesting. Bringing up that even if Fredie's dad tried to retire and stay out of Edelgard's way, that he would still have to die because of what he symbolizes. Hubert and Ferdinand disagree on whether people like Mr. Aegir can get a second chance (as in, can you when you've become a symbol).

This is especially interesting to me in regards to what happens to Rhea, Dimitri, and Claude if they surrender to Edelgard and become her puppets. Basically, Hubert is saying that, no matter what, they'd have to die because anyone who would rebel would use (fill in here) as a symbol of their resistance. Claude may be the sole exception here because he can scoot off to Almyra, but it's very obvious that Rhea and Dimitri (and their staunch allies) are fighting for their lives, because even if we're generous and say Edelgard would spare them and give them life worth living (i.e. not locked up), Hubert would most certainly have them assassinated.

Which also brings up another point. People always talk about how it's wrong/bad for Dimitri to try and spare Edelgard at the end of AM because what kind of life would she live? But always praise Edelgard for trying to spare Rhea towards the end of CF but no one - not a single soul - asks what kind of life would Rhea live? I gotta make my own post about that.

SB is really gonna be - kill yo dad, the route. Ironic since I played this the day after Father's Day.

SHEZ & MANUELA A SUPPORT

Veggies are legitimately delicious though. I don't know what the Imperial Army's problem is.

EDELGARD & MONICA A SUPPORT

Guys, I'm so excited. A Monica support. I wonder what she'll talk about.

Monica counts how many times Edelgard worried about her and invited her to tea. I just . . . no.

This support was pure cringe.

I love how "Kingdom bad" because they're willing to die to defend their homes, family, friends, and everything and anything else they've loved from invaders, but Monica is to be admired because she's oh so loyal to Edelgard that even in when Edelgard leaves her for dead, it's a happy moment for Monica because it helps Edelgard's cause. Like . . . double standard much?

PETRA & CONSTANCE C SUPPORT

Constance is something else. She confronts Petra because Petra's dad invaded and it led to the demise of Constance's everything.

I enjoy supports that address conflict, but girl, that was not Petra's fault. Don't take it out on her.

Oh, good, she's not. She recognizes that Petra's people suffered, and that neither of them were involved, so there's no bad blood.

Then she hahahas and leaves. Lamo, this made me love Constance.

Petra doesn't get a chance to say she agrees and seeks out Constance, but finds her in the sunlight, and needlessly to say, is very confused.

MAIN BATTLE

Hubert and Edelgard just said submit or die.

Wow, Linhardt is like I wish the nobles would think about all the people who they're forcing to fight. The lack of self-awareness is astounding.

Ferdinand can join the "lack of self-awareness club" for acting like it's the Kingdom causing the violence.

Baron Dominic opened the gate, risking his defenses to rescue soldiers. Hubert judged him. But we're supposedly the good guys. I swear the writing goes out of it's way to make the Kingdom look good.

Now let’s share my thoughts. First of all, I’m a sucker for people with glasses 😔 I find them very hot, thank you very much. During the whole “You thought I was going to kiss you?” Part, I felt like that one drawing of a little character slipping with their food tray or something and looking up, utterly pathetic, to someone looming over them.

Also congratulations, managed to make me go from interested to uncomfortable to having to turn off my phone and stare into the distance to process and change the mental scenario I was having, then reading once again once I felt I was ready.
