Hearts of the Multiverse-Chapter Nine: Do You Remember the Rain?
None of the other avatars Aang tried to channel could tell him what this place was. Honestly, he’d never heard of anyone visiting this ‘Japan.’ If there were any habitable, uncharted territory, the Fire Nation would have tried to colonize or control it. It made no sense.
Even so, at least he ended up somewhere where he could talk to the other avatars. Pearl, a little girl local to the Kurain Village, had said most of the people here, including herself, were spirit mediums who could channel the dead. They took on the forms of the dead they spoke to, like he did with Roku and Kyoshi those few times.
              “Aang!”
Pearl, Sprig, King, Monster Kid (That was literally his name), Frosta, and Barry ran over to him, super excited. Aang gave them a smile, “What’s up, guys?”
“Can you do the marble trick again?” Sprig asked. “I’m gonna figure it out this time.”
Sprig was a humanoid, pink frog. He had been the first person…er…well individual Aang had come across in this strange world. One minute he’d been having a peaceful, small celebration amongst his friends, and then he woke up in this world after the ground had stopped splitting open and swallowing them all into the purple abyss below.
There was a swarm of monsters attacking the village looking for crystals. While Jotaro Kujo, a standoffish teenager with an apparently invisible spirit attached to him (to which Aang could see due to being the bridge between the human and spirit world), was doing a good job at keeping them under control. Aang was able to manipulate the clay pots back into their original form. They released some sort of evil spirit attached once defeated, almost like it was never alive. Aang didn’t know if he should feel guilt over fighting them or not. Still, he wasn’t going to let objects turned living attack innocent people. Jotaro had been a bit surprised Aang could see his ‘stand,’ but he didn’t ask too many questions about him being the avatar or what that meant. Honestly, it was a little bit of a letdown.
But at least the others liked the cool tricks he could show them!
              “Oh, you mean this?”
Aang, already having the marbles in hand as soon as he saw the others, used his airbending to rapidly twirl them around in between the palm of his hands like a mini twister. It brought back memories of Kyoshi Island. Good times.
              “I wish I could do that,” Monster Kid said. “But I can’t airbend…and I don’t have arms.”
“One of the world’s greatest earthbenders is blind,” Aang said, almost matter-of-factly. “Maybe you can’t do this, but I’m sure you’ve got lots of cool stuff you can do.”
“Well, I wanna be a warrior like Undyne. But she’s so much cooler than me. Taller too.”
“I’m sure you can be just as cool as her. And I’m not very tall, either,” Aang said with a small laugh.
“You sure you don’t want me to try and catch you a Starly?” Barry asked. “Seems like it’d be a great Pokémon for you, Aang. Then we could have battles, and I could show you all the ropes!”
Momo, his pet lemur-bat flew down and climbed onto his shoulder. Perfect timing. “Well, Momo doesn’t really like birds.”
“Oh, makes sense. Don’t worry. We’ll find a Pokémon that’ll get along with Momo and Appa!”
“Can we ride Appa again soon?” Sprig asks. “Doing all those loopty loops in the air was so much fun—and satiated my insatiable sense of danger!”
“If Appa is okay with it, I don’t see why not.”
“How tired does flying make him?” King asked. “Hooty tried to make me fly once, and I got tired after the fifth failed attempt!”
“Everyone,” a girl’s voice called out. This was Iris Hawthorne, one of the head shrine maidens. She had a timid and calm demeanor. “Supper is ready. It’s time to come inside.”
Everyone gathered in the common space and sat down for a meal. It was a soup made up of different vegetables. Both he and a boy just a bit older than him, Steven, were vegetarians. Iris, being a kind person, made two different food options. Honestly, he’d been treated very well by the hostesses of Kurain Village.
Aang sat next to Steven; both being pacifists, unsurprisingly became fast friends. Aang was friends with most of the people here, to be fair. Raven, Marnie, and Syaoran were a bit standoffish, but Aang chalked that up to Raven being a private person, Marnie being shy, and Syaoran being two years younger than him. Toriel and Professor Sycamore acted more like parental figures (or the monks, in his case) than anything else. Koichi was nice. And so was Yugi. Though, they kept busy with a card game Yugi had brought with him. Koichi seemed better at it than most others here, Aang included. And his friend, Rohan, didn’t really seem to like anyone. Or, he preferred the company of himself over others. It was kind of the same with Jotaro, only in a less arrogant way. He just seemed to hate people, especially girls, much to his own and definitely Steven’s distaste. But, hey! Sokka was kind of sexist, too, before he met the Kyoshi warriors. Maybe Jotaro just needed to meet Suki. The thought made Aang laugh.
Eh, Katara was probably stronger than he was, anyway.
“Thank you for your lovely hospitality, Iris,” Toriel said with a small, fuzzy smile.
“It’s quite a pleasure,” Iris said, returning the gesture. “It’s been a while since we’ve had guests. You’re welcome to stay as long as you need.”
The soup tasted delicious as always. Iris seemed to make everything without flaw, but she also shied away from compliments.
“The soup is fantastique,” Professor Sycamore marveled.
“Oh, it’s nothing,” Iris said. “It’s just something I made on the spot.”
“Professor Sycamore is right,” Yugi said with a small smile. “This is great!”
As they continued to talk amongst each other, Steven turned to Aang. “So, how’d searching for your friend go today?”
“Honestly?” Aang asked. “Not well. Kurain Village is far off from the city, and a lot of people give me weird looks when I take Appa into Tokyo.”
Aang slumped over at the table. “I miss them, though.”
“I get that,” Steven said. “I can help you find them tomorrow. I mean, if they ended up here.”
              “Really? That’d be great!”
There was a pause. Furious scratching noises of pen on paper could be heard as Rohan drew his new ‘manga’ chapter. It was like the drawings Sokka did but good.
“Have you found any of your friends?” Aang asked.
Steven shook his head. “But I have a feeling they’re here.”
              “Same here. I get it.”
At that moment, a loud jolt of thunder echoed across the sky. Soon enough, rain poured down like waves of water.
“Well, someone made Poseidon mad,” Syaoran murmured.
              “Poseidon?” Aang questioned.
“He’s the god of the seas in Greek mythology,” Yugi explained.
“Oh? Back home waterbenders derive their power from the moon. I know the moon, actually,” Aang said, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Fascinating,” Rohan spoke sarcastically. “It’s been done in a million different stories—a boy talking to the stars. Honestly, it’s generic.”
Aang shot him a glare. Yue’s death was no such thing. But then, he supposed he hadn’t said anything about Yue being the moon spirit.
“Hey, I’ve been to the moon before,” Steven said.
“See? You’re proving my point,” Rohan said flippantly.
“Let’s just get back to having a nice meal,” Koichi said, seeming to sense the tension in the room.
Aang continued to glare at Rohan who merely smirked in response. Not only that, but what if the rain didn’t clear by tomorrow? How could he search for the others then?
Sister Bikini, a very tiny woman, jumped at the next roll of thunder. She shook her head and looked to her guests. “You all probably want to stay in this building for a little while. It’s going to be storming for a while.”
“Great!” Frosta exclaimed sarcastically. “Just what we need on top of all those monsters.”
“Not to worry,” Aang assured them. He posed in what he hoped was heroic. “As the Avatar, it’s my job to keep the world safe—well—I guess it’s more like worlds now.”
“Oh? And how do you plan to do that, Moon Boy?”
Sokka couldn’t draw, but at least his sarcastic quips were actually funny.
“More than draw,” Aang said swiftly. He grinned when Rohan grumbled something under his breath. “I can bend water, earth, fire, and air, and I’ve saved my world before. I just need to get to the root of this problem. I’m sure once I find my friends, we can solve this quick!”
“I’m sure you can, too,” Steven interjected.
Suddenly, there was a loud bang at the door. Jotaro, who was closest to the door, hesitantly opened the door only to have a woman fall through and collapse in a bloody heap on the ground. She had short silver hair and wore a tattered fancy dress-suit. She held a broken whip in her hand which reminded Aang of June.
              “Miss Franziska!” Pearl shrieked.
Aang jumped up high into the air with his airbending and landed next to the woman. Too bad Katara wasn’t here; she could help him try and heal some of these wounds.
“Nnnngh. I n-need to speak to Edgeworth,” she groaned; shortly after, she passed out.
“Miss Von Karma,” Iris said. “Someone get a bedroll! We need to treat those injuries!”
“I can help with that,” Steven insisted.
He ran over to them and licked the palm of his hand. “Um, sorry. This is gonna be a little weird.”
He slapped his spit-filled hand onto one of the injuries, before Aang could yell at him to stop, the woman’s injuries started to heal and disappear.
“That’s disgustingly useful,” Jotaro commented. “I don’t want to know why or how you learned to do that.”
“Unimportant,” Steven said dismissively. “Can you help me get her to a bedroll?”
              Jotaro scowled but nodded, nonetheless.
Who was this woman? Who was Edgeworth? Had she been attacked by monsters? Okay, dumb question. Obviously. But why did she come here? And how did Pearl and Iris know her?
Aang supposed they’d find out as soon as she woke up.
              …
Evil beyond himself never ceased to impress him. Alastor knew there had to be a greater power that had orchestrated this massive dimensional shift. Though, not even the villains he came across seemed to be capable of such a feat. No. He hadn’t met the mastermind, yet.
DIO, for all his self-made grandeur, was just like the rest of hell’s population. He’d fall as he had before; that Alastor was sure. If he kept overstepping and planning a coup, Alastor may just drop a small hint of his existence to one Jotaro Kujo.
All of it was migraine-inducing. He would not be powerless—never again. He swore the last time would be against Adam. At least he’d finally found a way to get some control back on his power. Every day he felt himself grow just a tad stronger. He supposed he had Mr. Giovanna to thank for that. He really should’ve read the details of their deal closer. This would continue to happen until…well…until he was much like his Husker.
              In both life and death.
But not to matter with that now! That was a bargaining chip for later, after all!
He had other deals to make.
              …
Katara had just told a story about a little ghost girl from the Southern Water Tribe. They had been studying until the storm struck. To pass the time, the groups started telling each other stories. Katara’s had been the creepiest, so far.
“Does anyone else have a ghost story they’d like to tell?” Rei asked, holding the flashlight to her face.
“Or you can keep them,” Usagi said, huddling and shivering in the blankets. Miles snorted through his nose but managed to stifle his laughter…some.
              “Hey!”
“C’mon Usagi,” Minako said. “Don’t be such a big chicken!”
“I’ve got a ghost story,” Josuke spoke up. “And I know it happened, too.”
              “Really?” Katara asked. “Go ahead.”
“Well, it all began with a girl named Reimi. Now, Rohan and Koichi, mostly Koichi, told me most of the background, so I might not do it justice. But Reimi was sixteen when she was babysitting Rohan at her house. That night, a serial murderer by the name of Kira Yoshikage snuck through the house. He killed her dog, Arnold. When she heard the dripping of the blood onto the floor, she saw what he’d done and scrambled to save Rohan. She saved him…but she was stabbed in the back by him. Her spirit couldn’t rest—not until Kira was dead. So she haunted the streets of Morioh, looking for anyone who would help her. It’s lucky Koichi and Rohan did.”
“Whoa. That’s actually super creepy,” Miles said.
              “Told you!”
“I didn’t know stand users could see spirits,” Kakyoin remarked. “I’ll have to keep that in mind in case we go ghost hunting.”
“How do you factor into this story?” Kaiba asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Oh, that? Well, me, Jotaro, Hayato, Koichi, Okuyasu, and Rohan tracked down Kira and beat him up. We beat him up…and then his head was squished by an ambulance.”
              “That’s gruesome,” Robin said.
“I mean, he was trying to explode us all, and he was a SERIAL MURDERER,” Josuke said, staring at Robin for emphasis.
              “Touche.”
“I’ve got a ghost story,” Arven spoke up. “This one is also real.”
“Seems like we’re all in the mood to tell real ghost stories tonight,” Ty Lee said.
“It’s not technically a ghost story, but I think it can count,” Arven said. “It’s about my dad.”
Katara and Sokka leaned forward, giving Arven a knowing and sympathetic look.
“When I was born, my mother left us to study abroad. She never came home, and I found out she left for good when I was about five. My dad sealed himself up in his lab inside the Great Crater. It was a dangerous place, and the Pokémon who lived there could be dangerous. Then one day, he left and never came back. I tried to go to find him, but I just ended up getting Mabosstiff hurt, badly. I spent years trying to find a cure—and I did, with the help from Julianna. They’re my little buddy. Together we found the herbs guarded by legendary guardians that cured Mabosstiff. In the process, Miraidon, the legendary my dad had been studying got stronger, too. When we finished our journey, my dad asked us to come meet him in the Great Crater. Juliana invited Nemona and Penny. Truth is, I don’t have a lot of friends, so they really came through for me when I needed it most.”
“Anytime,” Nemona said with a wink. “Also, I would’ve helped you if you just asked.”
“I couldn’t bring myself to do that,” Arven said, shaking his head. “My pride wouldn’t let me.”
“You were going to miss out on meeting your dad just because of your pride?” Nemona asked.
“Well, he wasn’t my dad, was he?” Arven shot back, a little spitefully. He laughed and held his head in his hands. “Turns out, he was an android my dad had designed to keep watch over his work because my real dad was killed by one of those Pokémon who hurt Mabosstiff!”
He was in tears now and gestured around the room flippantly with a flick of his hand. “That’s why all of this is so…unnatural. I’m not used to living with a lot of people. I’ve always taken care of myself and Mabosstiff. That’s it.”
“Arven,” Katara began. She glanced to Sokka. “We know what that’s like. The Fire Nation killed my mom when I was a little girl, and then our dad had to go off to war. We didn’t see him for a long time.”
“Did you ever get to see him again?” Arven asked, in a low voice.
“We did,” Sokka said. “When we were planning the invasion in Ba Sing Se. He helped us fight against the Fire Nation.”
“That’s good,” Arven said. He laughed with a sort of bitterness that would make sour candy seem tame. “At least your dad didn’t abandon you.”
“I think,” Adora said. “I think story time is over.”
No duh. Poor Arven. Miles couldn’t—wouldn’t imagine a life without his dad.
It was quiet for a few seconds before Arven spoke up again. “Sorry for ruining the mood.”
“It was getting late anyways we should probably head to—,” Rei began.
She was cut off as someone inhaled sharply, painfully.
Giorno clutched the shirt he was wearing (a comfier shirt Yuichiro had lent him). Miles wasn’t sure what to do. His friend shut his eyes, as if in enormous pain, a green luminescent webbing coursed down his arms and legs. That must be the source. But where was it coming from? Was this a daimon…or was it…?
              “DORA!”
Nothing. Giorno still looked as though he were going to pass out. He grabbed Miles’s arm. “It’s him. It’s the Radio Demon—he’s—!”
Giorno passed out before he could finish his sentence. The webbing stopped and retracted back to the center of his chest. Miles shook him gently. “Giorno! Dude! Wake up!”
Katara stooped down beside him, feeling his wrist. She sighed with relief. “He’s just sleeping. His pulse is still strong.”
“What did he mean by that?” Kakyoin asked. “Who’s the Radio Demon, Miles?”
Miles shook his head. “Not my story to tell.”
“He could be seriously hurt, and you won’t tell us?” Zuko countered.
“They’ve got you there,” Kaiba said with a shrug.
“You know about this, too?” Kakyoin asked.
              “Miles knows more,” Kaiba deflected.
They all turned to Miles. It really wasn’t his place to tell Giorno’s secrets, especially about the deal with Alastor. But what if Zuko was right? What if Giorno was hurt? If he could prevent that demon from hurting him any further, shouldn’t he? With great power…
              Damn it.
“When Giorno came here,” Miles said. “He was hurt—bad. He accidentally made a deal with a demon to stay alive.”
“Oh, that’s all?” Kakyoin asked with a sardonic laugh. “A demon?”
“He was dying,” Miles reiterated. “It’s not like he had a choice!”
“He should’ve known better,” Rei said.
Miles was surprised. Up until this point, the Shinto Priestess had been the most understanding. Now, she was deciding to be judgmental, at the worst possible time.
“You’ve never done something you’ve regretted?” Zuko asked.
And now the person who was most suspicious of Giorno for most of their time here was on his side. Rei looked to the floor. Kakyoin still seemed unsure. “He could be a threat to this entire group.”
“He’s not,” Miles said. If anyone was a threat by definition…it’d be him. “Giorno is a good person. He’s always helped me when I needed it.”
“I mean, he is Spiderman,” Josuke argued. “I’ve never read a comic where Spiderman was evil. It’d be a good concept, though. Point is, I think we can trust Miles, if nothing else.”
“He just looks so much like…” Kakyoin’s words trailed off.
He must’ve had problems with Giorno’s dad. What had happened? Should he ask? Or would that incriminate Giorno even further? No. He wasn’t going to do that.
“You’re basing this off looks?” Zuko asked.
              “Not very sound,” Sokka agreed.
“You don’t understand,” Kakyoin argued. “That man was dangerous. Hell, he wasn’t even a man!”
Another jolt of thunder rang against the roof of the Hikawa Shrine. The moment was interrupted as a guy’s voice yelled, “Hey! Anyone home? Please, I need help! I gotta kid with me.”
Kaiba groaned. The accent was Brooklyn. Almost stereotypically so.
“Don’t let him in,” Kaiba warned.
Rei ignored him and opened the doors. A soaked blond boy ran through. He held a tiny child in his arms. They couldn’t be older than nine or ten. And the blond guy looked about sixteen, like Kaiba. Most importantly, the boy and the kid were banged up pretty bad. The boy took the brunt of the damage—he had wounds on his legs, arms, chest, and a few scrapes on his face. The child had a surface gash on their arms and legs. Their brown hair framed their face and was caked with dirt. Their purple and pink striped shirt and shorts were torn, and their sneakers were no better. The only thing intact was some heart-shaped locket they wore around their neck.
Kaiba appeared a bit surprised. “Wheeler. What did you get yourself into?”
Wheeler, apparently, glanced up to Kaiba. “Oh. It’s you, rich boy.”
He gasped and fell to his knees, “Someone please take the kid!”
Katara was quickest. She grabbed the child from the blonde before he passed out.
“Seto,” Connie started. He flinched at the name. “Who are they?”
“The child I have no idea,” Kaiba said, pinching the bridge of his nose. “The mutt is Joey Wheeler. A pain in my side.”
“Josuke, can you help me heal them?” Katara asked, using her healing abilities on the child’s wounds.
              “Of course! DORA!”
“Are they going to be okay?” Pav asked.
“Yes,” Katara said with a nod. “But what could’ve done this to them? Usually the daimon don’t scratch people up like this.”
              “Good question,” Zuko agreed.
“I guess we’ll find out,” Sokka said sternly.
Miles helped Katara, Josuke, Sokka, and Zuko get Giorno, Joey, and the child to a bed. Katara sat down beside them. “I’ll keep an eye on them for now. Someone can take a shift for me later, preferably Josuke since he’s also a healer.”
“Goodbye full night’s sleep,” Josuke grumbled.
Sokka grinned, as if gaining some divine intervention for brilliant insight: “That’s rough, buddy.”
Zuko shot him a look. “I only said that one time. What was I supposed to say to ‘my first girlfriend turned into the moon?’”
              “Not that!”
“I’ll stay with you,” Miles offered. “I wanna make sure he’s okay.”
Katara paused and nodded. “Thank you, Miles. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it.”
It was quiet for a moment before Sokka pulled Josuke and Zuko closer, “We’ll smooth things over with Kakyoin. I’m sure it’s all a big misunderstanding!”
“Yeah,” Josuke agreed. “I mean, if I saw someone who looked like Kira *or by extension Kawajiri,* I’d probably be skeptical, too.”
Sokka and Josuke walked back to the main room while Zuko lingered behind. “Kakyoin was right before all this. We all do things we’re not proud of. I don’t know what Giorno’s gotten himself into, but I can tell he’s trying. I’m not exactly Mr. Social, myself. Far be it from me to judge anyone. And I don’t think you’re a bad person either, Miles.”
With that, he left the room, leaving himself and Katara. Katara kept a constant flow of waterbending above everyone every twenty minutes or so.
“Hey Miles,” Katara spoke up, not breaking her concentration. “What is Spiderman, anyways?”
“Spiderman?” Miles repeated. Katara nodded. “It’s our duty to protect the world from people who would like to hurt it. I’m my universe’s only Spiderman.”
“That must be pretty lonely,” Katara said. “Do you have a lot of friends back home?”
              Miles paused. “You’ve met Pav.”
“Yeah, well, you two interact less than you and Giorno do. Plus, he said he’s from a different universe from you.”
“Wait,” Miles said. Why was she asking all these questions? “If you know that, why are you asking?”
She continued, seemingly ignoring his question. “Why didn’t you tell us about that ‘Radio Demon?’”
“Because it was Giorno’s business. Not mine.”
“Zuko was right. He could’ve gotten hurt. We’re still not sure about all the details of this deal. If Giorno is your friend, wouldn’t it be good to help him by finding out?”
“What are you suggesting?” Miles asked.
“Let me rephrase: how many friends did you have from your own universe? The people you see every day?” Katara asked.
Miles was quiet. Ganke didn’t count. Not really. He was pretty sure Ganke would enjoy a single-person dorm. His folks were the closest people to him, and the people who he considered great friends before had betrayed him in the worst way possible.
“I didn’t,” Miles admitted. “I had me and my family, and I’d do anything to protect my family.”
“I would, too,” Katara said. “But I also have plenty of people I’d call my friend, even people here. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt. Maybe I can help you get Giorno out of this deal. I just need to know more.”
“I don’t think you want to go messing around with this guy, Katara,” Miles said. “The first and last time I saw him, I could barely breathe. It was like there was pressure on my chest. Giorno said not to go looking for him, and that he didn’t even read his contract properly. There was something that had attacked him, and the Radio Demon found him dying, unable to heal himself. So, they struck a deal.”
He didn’t dare tell Katara that he’d met Giorno’s father. No. That was putting way too much trust in someone to keep a secret.
“Then we’ll find a way to get rid of the demon,” Katara said. She gave Miles a small smile. “Thank you for trusting me enough to be honest and open like this. I’ll do whatever I can.”
And now he felt like a huge jerk, but he just couldn’t bring himself to be completely honest with her—not after Gwen.
              “Thank you, Katara.”
              …
“There’s not a ruddy chance in all of the Distortion World that I’d ever consider being friends with the likes of you,” Bede scoffed.
The absolute nerve of this sad sod! Asking to team up to find Chairman Rose was the absolute last thing he would help the Champion’s lackluster, little brother accomplish. He’d put his days seeking out Rose behind him. Sure, he may have his contact information on his Pokenav, but there was no way he was going out of his way to help Hop of all people.
“Those daimon attacked Mr. Wright. We…need your help,” Hop said with a sigh.
Bede smirked. The champion’s little brother asking—no—imploring him for help was quite humorous.
“Why don’t you ask your brother?” Bede spoke harshly.
“I don’t know where Lee is!” Hop objected.
“Not my problem. Now, leave me alone.”
The absolute nerve of this sniveling wimp. He couldn’t solve his own problems, so now he wanted him to do it for him. And to come to Mr. Kaiba’s offices to do it was just…sad. It was an ambush! An outrage!
“Won’t you consider it?” the girl, Shauna, asked.
She had been nice that day of the battle. She told Hop and Hau not to revel in their one, pathetic, little victory. She looked at him pleadingly. Even so, he wouldn’t give in to this request—not if it meant working with Hop.
              “No,” he said simply.
“We heard they attacked Mr. Kaiba, too,” the other girl, Toph, pointed out. “Shouldn’t you be trying to be grateful and help us?”
“I don’t follow your logic,” Bede said.
“Well, he took you in, didn’t he?” Toph asked. “It’d be pretty selfish not to work with us just because you hate Hop. You could really be helping him, you know?”
It was true, Seto Kaiba had helped them. But it was also true that Bede had helped him. To be called ungrateful, however, was an insult. His…mother and father often got into fights. Before they gave him away, his mother once told him he should be grateful to be alive. He tried to be grateful, but they gave him up, anyways. He tried to be grateful to Chairman Rose for unofficially adopting him, and he was cast aside again. Why should he risk being close to anyone ever again?
“I can’t—won’t help you,” Bede insisted.
“What do you mean? Of course, we’ll help them.”
Bede flinched at Mokuba Kaiba’s voice. He and Silver entered the lobby from the elevator to their right. Bede sighed and clenched his fists, “Mokuba, you have no idea the levels of incompetence we’re dealing—.”
Mokuba cut him off. “They attacked my older brother. I’m not just going to stand by and do nothing. If helping Mr. Wright helps him, then we’re doing it.”
“Alright!” the boy, Gus, cheered. “It’s good to have you guys on board!”
              “Not by choice,” Bede muttered.
Gus looked at him, almost sympathetically. He hated it. “I know you probably don’t wanna work with us, but if we get this done, then we can protect a lot of people from those monsters!”
“It might even lead us to the reason why we were teleported to this world in the first place,” Silver said thoughtfully. “Fine. We’ll help you, but don’t expect us to become pals or anything.”
“Bede?” Shauna asked. “What about you? You can disagree. It’s alright.”
“But we need him,” Hop argued.
“And if he doesn’t want to, he doesn’t have to,” Shauna argued back. She smiled at Bede. “It’s up to you.”
She was giving him the choice to help. He’d never really had much choice in anything. ‘Do this or you’re no longer useful’ is what he was accustomed to. Shauna had been nice to him, nicer than most people, despite not even knowing him that well. And Seto Kaiba, for all his yelling at employees, had never asked anything of him. Maybe he did owe him this ONE favor.
              “Fine. I’ll help.”
As he relented, a torrent of rain poured down from the sky. It would be blinding to anyone who tried to walk in it. Bede sighed as he heard Mokuba speak up. “You guys can stay here tonight. I don’t think it’s safe to go out. We can get to know each other better. Seto told me he’s staying with his…friends at the shrine.”
              “Yay! Sleepover!” Gus cheered.
“You sure he’s not going to regret that decision?” Silver whispered to Bede.
Bede chuckled. At least Silver was realistic and funny.
              …
“You got too close. They knew you were onto them,” Jet said, propping his feet on his coffee table.
Phoenix felt his eye twitch. He only owned so many ‘nice’ things in this life. True, the coffee table was already scuffed, but why add onto it?
Ever since that daimon had attacked them, Edgeworth became a constant presence in his apartment, or he would suggest, if they happened to be with Edgeworth that they stay with him. It didn’t help when Hobie told them how daimons would keep track on their targets until they proved there was or was not a talisman hidden inside them. What kind of talisman? No one knew. What Phoenix did know is that he was tired of the attempts. So far, Hobie had beaten one down with a guitar, Eda got another with her harpy magic, and Bucciarati diced one back into a shattered vase. All of them had come looking for Phoenix.
And they were still no closer to finding Chairman Rose.
“We’ve been scouting the west side of the Juban district for the root of this ‘daimon’ problem,” Raine said. “It could be that they’ve used magic to hole themselves up somewhere we can’t reach. That’s what Belos did.”
“Tch. Typical fascists,” Hobie muttered, tossing Phoenix’s Rubix cube up and down in the air.
Someone’s phone rang. It kinda sounded like the Steel Samurai’s theme. Edgeworth quickly dove into his jacket pocket, a sort of visible embarrassment on his face and answered his phone.
“Hello?...Well, we’ve been looking…No…I promise, we’re close to cracking this…I’ve been in contact with Detective Gum…”
Audible yelling from Gideon Graves rang through the room. Abbachio grabbed Edgeworth’s phone. “Don’t get your panties in a wad, we’ll solve your case soon enough. Also, you’re already pretty much blacklisted. Hiring anyone else at this point would be moot.”
              Click.
It was radio silence in the room for a full minute; Eda burst out laughing. “Oh, come on, he had it coming! That was hilarious!”
“Eda…” Raine shook their head. He looked to Abbachio who carelessly sipped on another glass of…something. Phoenix wasn’t even sure he had anymore alcohol, himself. “Please, we need to take this seriously!”
“I’m being so sincere right now,” Abbachio said with a snort.
Sasha and Guzma started to laugh along. At least the mood was lightening a bit.
“Raine is right,” Bruno said, slightly solemn. “We have too many problems building up on top of each other. We need to find some sort of clue—and soon. Lives are on the line.”
“Not with the weather being the way it is,” N said. He glared at the rain from the apartment window, like he was trying to make it go away by sheer force of will. “It’s like the world is trying to drown itself. Like an omen.”
Another uncomfortable silence, Maya clapped her hands. “Don’t worry guys! I’ve got just the thing to pass the time!”
“Maya no…” Phoenix groaned, knowing exactly what her time-passer was.
She pulled out three VHS tapes of Steel Samurai from the cabinet. “I’ll pop us some popcorn! We can crash right here while marathoning Steel Samurai!”
              …
After everyone fell asleep, Phoenix dug into his cabinets for some old blankets his parents gave him a long time ago. He took a moment to breathe. He was tired. And this was even prior to any of the other-world shenanigans. He didn’t even mind that so much. But it always felt like some new catastrophe was happening to him, Maya, and occasionally Edgeworth every Tuesday.
He sat on his bed for a minute, taking it all in. He heard his door creak. He looked up to see Edgeworth.
“Edgeworth. What’s up? I thought you were asleep.”
“Couldn’t,” Edgeworth said with a slight indifferent shrug. “Everyone else is still asleep. I noticed you were gone, so I wanted to make sure…”
“That some monster hadn’t run off with me in the middle of your marathon? How sweet.”
Although, it actually kind of was, in a Miles kind of way.
Miles smirked, “I’ll know better than to worry next time.”
This time the quiet they shared was strangely comfortable. It was painfully obvious that he liked Miles. Maya knew, and she teased him about it constantly (especially when she found out he went to law school just to meet Miles again). Abbachio had made an off-hand comment ‘mistaking’ them as a couple the other day. He was sure both he and Bucciarati knew. But maybe they knew because they were a couple, or at least, Phoenix assumed they were.
“I’m sorry,” Miles said. “I insisted that we met with that sham professor. I didn’t know she…”
“How could you have known?” Phoenix asked. “It’s okay, Edgeworth. We had to start somewhere.”
“I just wanted to make sure you didn’t take anymore hits as a lawyer. I know it’s hard enough to be a defense attorney, but I couldn’t imagine a world where you were disbarred or…worse.”
Phoenix stood up and walked over to Edgeworth. He put his hands on his shoulders. “Miles, look, I’m not worried about it. It’s alright. This isn’t your fault.”
Miles didn’t seem convinced. Phoenix smiled slightly, “You wanna know what you can do to make it up to me?”
              “…I’m listening.”
Phoenix bundled the blankets in his arms and placed half the stack into Miles’s arms. “Help me carry these! They’re super heavy!”
Miles blinked as though he had been expecting something else. He shook his head and scoffed. “So, I’ve been reduced to a babysitter, too?”
              “Welcome to my world, Edgeworth.”
              …
The former soothsayer/stand user had come to investigate the situation with Giorno. Miles was getting worried. Giorno was still unconscious, almost as if he was in a coma. Avdol had ushered everyone out except Miles, Katara, and Rei. Not even Kakyoin was allowed back inside until he’d finished his checkup.
“The deal he struck is serious,” Avdol noted. “If it’s legally binding, he’s in danger. He’ll wake up, but there’s no telling how much of his power and spirit that demon can drain if no exact terms were set.”
Avdol leaned forward. “I also sense that his paternal lineage is…unique to say the least.”
“Is it like Kakyoin thinks? Is he related to that DIO guy?” Miles asked.
Avdol’s voice became a whisper. “I’m afraid so. Which means he has the capability for great destruction, mayhem, and tyranny.”
That couldn’t be true. Giorno was a good person. Miles was sure of it. He had to be!
“However,” Avdol said quickly. “He also has the potential to be a hero, someone who never backs down in the face of great evil. He has the Joestar family birthmark right above his shoulder. I would assume he possesses traits of both DIO and Jonathan Joestar.”
“Then that’s good news, right?” Katara asked. “You said the Joestars were heroes.”
“It makes his situation all the more precarious,” Avdol explained. “That much power…it’s no surprise a demon would strike a deal with him at his weakest.”
“Can you help him?” Rei asked.
“Perhaps we all can. If we find the demon,” Avdol said. “We either convince him to revoke the deal, or we get rid of the demon.”
Miles looked at his friend. That Radio Demon might be tough, but he was Spiderman. And no one messed with the people he cared about. No one was going to die on his watch. He’d track down that demon and make sure that deal was null and sent back to the void he came from.
              …
Lucifer Morningstar had been stuck in the rain. It sucked. Being trapped in torrential pools of water, almost drowning twice. He had only been trying to get back to the hotel after looking around for Stolas’s daughter.
But he guessed it was lucky he had been stuck. After all, he would’ve never found the two children who almost drowned in the muddy nature-made trenches of the park.
One was a child with long, black hair, long gray blouse, skirt and shoes. Although her outfit was plain, she had a lot of magical energy around her. Maybe bringing her to the hotel wasn’t a great idea, but he was sure Charlie would welcome her with open arms.
The other was a child with copperish, shoulder-length hair, a long-sleeve green shirt, orange vest, and blue shorts. He’d been carrying his backpack. Hopefully it wasn’t full of anything perishable; it was totally soaked.
Now, they hadn’t ended up in the trench naturally. No. There was some man Lucifer had burned the hands off of to get him to drop them. He’d been holding them by their shirt collars, yelling obscenities about carving them up into tiny pieces for injuring his left eye. It did appear to have a bullet lodged in it. As to which child had done that, well, it was a mystery to him.
Humans did need to be more careful what they chose to do with their free will. The harming of children, well, that called for repercussions, right? And he would’ve burned the man alive, had he not jumped into a blueish portal, out of harm’s way.
              C’est la vie.
When he walked back in the hotel, Alastor was the first to greet them. Greeeeaaaat. Just what he needed after a hard day’s work.
“Your highness! Charlie was getting worried. She thought you’d slipped away for good!”
Lucifer heard the implied ‘again’ and swore he’d get Alastor back some day.
Alastor looked to his left and right, “And who are these two?”
“Alastor, this is Homura Akemi and Hayato Kawajiri. They’ll be staying with us for a while.”
Alastor’s mouth curled into a grin.
              …
And now, Alastor had someone who could counter that silly time-stand. He’d read the files of the people who’d been teleported here. Homura Akemi, resident magical she-devil and time stopper. They’d make an excellent team against the likes of DIO.

Chapter 2: The Empty Shell of an Ex-Navy Boy
He was awfully quiet. Luz had been expecting him to fight, yell and possibly cause problems. Liliith had said he would, had called him a spoiled brat who would obey Belos’ orders to death. So why was this boy so ghost-like?
She was told to stay by his side, to be his welcoming of sorts. Luz of course jumped at the chance. She wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to learn about the mysterious stranger who had been found in the water. Even if he was rude she was so ready to break open that shell and learn about his past.
Yet, he didn’t talk. At least not yet. They only sat in the medbay for what felt like hours before Luz asked him if he wanted to walk around. He acted like he couldn’t even hear her, so she finally dragged him to his feet. Some fresh air always helped her.
Even walking around the deck as Luz introduced him to some of the crew, Hunter just quietly followed. As if on instinct.
“So mysterious navy boy, “ A nickname Luz had started about twenty minutes ago, “You met Eda, Steve, Gus and Matt.” She listed on her fingers. “Did anyone catch your eye to talk to? I can introduce you to Willow, Or King or Amity- “
“What about me!” A loud annoying voice came from above from Hooty who was perching on the ropes. He was watching them with big eager eyes.
“Of course I wouldn’t forget you Hooty.” Luz put her hands on her hips looking up at the brown owl. “This is our cursed owl Hooty!”
“I’m actually a cursed human!” Hooty remarked in a playful joking voice.
“Oh right of course you are Hooty.” Luz waved her hand dismissing it. “It's fun to scare people with him, but he doesn’t really do much around the ship.”
“I do lots around the ship!” The owl screeched.
Luz had stopped looking at Hooty to check on the blonde boy. Hunter was just blankly staring at Hooty. He didn’t care- of course he didn't care- but Luz was hoping someone would get Hunter's attention. Possibly get him to open up, but it only seemed to make him look more tired.
Maybe she needed a different approach.
“Hey” She reached out to put her hand on Hunters shoulder but he flinched slightly making her pause. The only reaction he had, and it was fear. Of course it was fear. He was a navy boy on a pirate ship.
“Why don’t we do something fun instead?” Luz offered putting her hand on her hip instead of his shoulder.  “I can show you the crows nest, it’s where I usually hang out.”
She led him to the ladder even though Hunter didn’t respond. She didn’t know if he was going to follow her up the ladder, but he did. It wasn’t as high as the ropes led but Luz loved the feeling of the pure air up here. She scooched and helped Hunter up out of the Ladder before both resting at the top.
It was refreshing to be up here. She enjoyed it. Though that wasn’t important right now. Hunter was only sitting next to her, he had taken to huddling his legs close to him while leaning against the mast. Only staring down at the ship below.
He seemed miserable. No matter what Luz did.
“It’s nice up here, quiet.” Luz commented letting her legs dangle through the railings openings. “It's one of my favorite places to escape to. If you ever need to hide from the others this is a nice place to do it. “
Hunter didn’t react to anything she said.
“Hey,” Luz went to pat him on the shoulder again, this time slowly so as to not alarm him. Which seemed to be better, he still tensed under her touch. “Whatever happened to you, we just want to help.”
He was stiff now under Luzs hand, so she decided to take it away, but he didn’t relax. It was like Luz wasn’t even talking to him- because he probably didn’t want to hear it.
“I can leave you up here alone for a bit if you need.” Luz suggested. “I’ll wait at the bottom so you don't get in trouble. If you want?”
   No reaction.
“Did you lose your whole ship?” Luz pried. “Was it a storm? That happens on the sea. It's not good to bottle those feelings up and I heard it's easier to talk to strangers about your problems anyway.”
Still nothing, Luz was giving up bringing one of her own legs up as to rest her arms and chin on it. Maybe he just needed some silence. Comforting someone who didn’t seem to want comfort was hard.
“Lilith.” It was almost a whisper how quiet it was.
Luz snapped her head back to Hunter who now seemed more- awake. He was sitting more upright and his eyes were wide in shock as his gaze was locked on Lilith who was leaning against the side of the ship talking to someone out of Luz’s view.
“Oh yeah, I forgot she was in the navy once.” Luz said. “Do you know her?”
Maybe that was the key to having Hunter open up better.
“What's she doing here?” Hunter's voice was higher pitched than Luz had imagined. “Are the rumors true? Did she betray Belos for her sister?”
“Well yeah who doesn’t want to betray Belos?” Luz let out a chuckle
-----------------------------------------------
She wasn’t supposed to be here. She died four months ago according to the records. Her crew saw her die. The reports say that they had gone out to scout and island. Her and two others were on the dandy that had gone down. A misjudgment of tides, -no it wasn’t a mistake. It was a set up. She never died- she left on purpose.
She’s a traitor- a monster- a pirate. Hunter had been right when they captured Eda so long ago and she just escaped without reason. Lilith had been behind it. It wasn’t Hunters fault alone. There was a traitor as he suspected.
He should capture her- take her to Belos-
“He was the one who ordered your death.” Terras words haunt his head.
Maybe he was wrong. Maybe Terra was also a traitor- but she was so loyal to Belos. She always was.
That familiar burn in the back of his throat was back. He’d managed to get it to disappear for a bit. He tensed, unsure what to do now.
“Hunter?” The girl’s voice was soft.
“What” Hunter snapped his voice cracking. He had meant to sound more intimidating than that.
“Do you want to meet Lilith?” Luz asked.
Hunter didn’t want to face Luz. If he looked at the girl now he wasn’t sure he could keep the composer. He was tired of this, he didn’t know what to do. He was supposed to be dead.
   Belos wanted him dead.
“No” Talking was harder than he anticipated. His eyes were starting to leak again, he thought he had it under control.
“It might be nice to talk to a familiar face-” Luz tried.
“No” Hunter stated again, curling back in on himself. He didn’t want to talk to her- He didn’t know what to think of her. She was a traitor but Hunter wasn’t sure bringing her back would be enough for Belos to accept him again. What had he even done wrong?
“Okay.” Luz accepted defeat. “I’m just going to wait at the bottom of the ladder then. Whenever you’re ready you can come down and I’ll introduce you to the rest of the crew.”
Then he was alone, up above the rest of the ship. Nothing but harsh wind beating against him. Reminding him, he was indeed human and it was getting awfully cold. He didn’t know how long he could stay up here, but he didn’t want to move.
He was supposed to be dead.
   Belos wanted him dead.
   So why wasn’t he dead?
“He was the one who ordered your death.” Terras voice was haunting. He knew Belos got mad at him, but would he really want him dead. Hunter had been on his best behavior, and sure he screwed up, but he was always rightfully punished and he thought he had made it up to Belos. He thought Belos was becoming proud of him. That’s why he put him on Terras ship wasn’t it? Or was it really to have him executed outside the public eye.
It wasn’t unusual. Belos had two types of executions, One to make an example of and the ones done out in sea, where no one witnessed as to not cause more chaos. As to not cause terror. Did Hunter do something to betray Belos? He hadn’t meant to.
Terra wasn’t a traitor though. If she said Belos ordered it, Belos ordered it. She was alot of things but a liar wasn’t one of them.
Belos wanted his own nephew dead.
---------------------
While she stood at the bottom waiting for Hunter several crewmates asked her about Hunter. It was only natural they were curious. She is too, but he didn't want to talk and it could be overwhelming to meet everyone right away.
He’s been crying up there for hours now. It was an eerie quiet cry, only shakey inhales, and occasionally wiping his nose. She told him she was going to give him space but she didn’t realize it was going to be so long. She didn’t want to bug him but he didn’t have a coat on and the clouds were hinting at rain.
Luz was going to have to go back up there and fetch him, or at the very least lend him something warm. She didn’t think the storm would be bad, but it would be better safe than sorry. Even if she wanted to allow Hunter his peace for a bit.
Afterall he seemed to be dealing with a lot. Maybe he was upset about being on a pirate ship, or maybe being the nephew of an evil man was just exhausting. Whatever it was Luz had a feeling she shouldn’t bug Hunter on it too much. She was only making it worse it seemed.
“Hey.” She called as she reached the top of the crows nest again. Hunter didn’t bother turning to her. “Hey,” She repeated pulling herself up off the ladder to sit besides him. “Storms coming shouldn't be scary but you need to get down now.”
Hunter took a shaky breath not daring to face her.
“Look, I know you’re not done.” Luz sighed out. “I’m not going to pretend I know how to fix whatever you’re dealing with, nor do I even know what you’re upset about.” She shrugged. “don’t know if you even want my help right now, but I’m not letting you get sick and die up here.” She declared offering her hand to him.
He didn’t instantly take it, even avoided looking at her, but Luz kept it out patiently. It was when the boy realized Luz was going to be stubborn that he took her hand and let her pull him gently towards the ladder.
Hunter reached the bottom first because Luz wasn’t about to chance him, waiting for her to leave but staying up top. He held himself in a stiff posture as he waited. Luz couldn’t help but pity him as he still was avoiding eye contact and the tears were still slowly leaking.
He’s been crying off and on nearly the whole day- how did he still have tears.
“You might get talked to.” Luz warned. “But I bet Steve will let you hide in medbay for a bit again.” She offered.
   Hunter didn’t seem to care.
“Matt might get annoying, but he shouldn’t bug you until you calm down. Don’t take anything he says to heart, he wants to be cool but he’s still learning who he is. Besides, if he does get too annoying you can just tell Steve. Matt wont admit it but he admires his brother very much.” Luz kinda felt like she was talking too much but it was better than the silence. “I was told to watch you, so I have to stick around.” She gave a smile to Hunter who looked far more interested in the floor.
Luz held the door of the medbay open for Hunter who immediately went to the bed without so much as a glance to Steve who was sitting at the desk reading a book.
“Care if he stays in here a bit?” Luz asked, though she knew the answer and was already walking out as Stever gave a shrug of his shoulders in his casual carefree way.
When the boy first woke up this morning Luz had been excited, ready to meet him, ready to help, but she still didn’t really get to meet Hunter. He wasn’t really here, he was lost in his own head. It wasn’t something Luz knew how to fix.
She stayed outside the medbay in case Hunter did decide he wanted to walk around, but she didn’t think he would. Even if that was the case Steve knew better than to leave a newcomer alone anyway. So, she didn’t really know why she stayed outside.
“Luz?” A familiar sweet voice came.
“Amity!” Luz jumped, turning to the purple haired girl. She wore her usual pretty gems around her neck and small hoop earrings. “What- What are you doing out here? Do you need Steve? I can get Steve.”
“Luz calm down.” Amity chuckled. “I came from below deck.” Amity pointed to the door of the stairs across the way of the medbay. Of course, Luz must’ve not been paying much attention. The pretty ex-merchant daughter always seemed to catch her off guard.
“Oh.” Luz replied stupidly, feeling the heat building around her cheeks.
“I heard Eda put you in charge of him.” Amity leaned on the opposite wall Luz was sitting against. “Seems to be a theme.” Amity was referring to when she and her family first joined the crew. Her mother was in charge of a big ship that she used to sell to everyone, pirates, navy or anyone else with coin. Eda had stolen something from Odalia, which is how Amity and Luz first met. Now they were possibly friends.
“Better to introduce the newcomers to the loud one first right. I overwhelm them then the rest of the crew seems like a cakewalk.” Luz joked back.
Amity let out a small chuckle “I think she knows how friendly and accepting you are.”
Luz's face was feeling hot, hopefully that wasn’t visible. “Or I’m just Edas favorite.” She gave a cheesy smile.
Amity smiled and copied Luz’s pose of criss cross on the floor. “Is he still crying?” She whispered, eyeing the door to medbay.
“Yeah off and on. I kinda wish he just wanted to kill me like you did.” Luz smiled.
“I thought we were past that.”
“What was it you called me? Sea rat?”  Luz teased and Amity rolled her eyes. It was nice to remember how much Amity has changed already. Remembering those rough beginnings made it easier to have faith that Hunter would get adjusted to. He didn’t seem like a bad guy, just a kid like her. “Who told you he wouldn’t stop crying?”
“ I overheard Gus talking to Perry. ” Amity shrugged. “Not like it would’ve stayed a secret long anyway, word travels fast on this ship.”
“I don’t know how to help him.” Luz looked at the medbay door.
“Hey he’s only been awake a day, don’t worry too much. He’ll get better.”
“Yeah, it's just different from everyone else. You fought me- alot. Lillith, Steve and Matt all joined willingly, but he is just here. “ Luz pointed out. “I’ve never met someone so upset.”
Amity kept smiling at Luz, meeting her eyes. “You don’t even know him and you’re so worried. Eda’s right to have you watch him. “
“Mama said I’d do great too.” Luz sighed, taking off her bandana to ruffle through her hair. “I kinda wish she was against it like when you joined and I insisted on talking to you. Now it feels like there’s pressure.”
“You’re only the welcoming party. You’re not to fix him, you’re just here to make sure if he does plan anything, someone sees.” Amity pointed out, she paused for a second before reaching her hand out to grab Luzs. “No one expects you to do anything. Just watch him.”
Amity was holding her hand. Sure, it wasn’t a romantic way- it was a reassuring friendship way. Luz did that to Amity before when they stood against Odalia. So why did this feel different? Was it because of her silly crush- or?
The medbay door swung open causing Luz to jump away from Amity and turn to the door. Steve came out, closing the door quickly behind him.
“He’s still in there.” Steve commented. “I’m going to grab him some food.”
Right Hunter hadn’t eaten for a while. Luz didn’t consider that.
“Ah- Okay.” Luz responded by jumping to her feet. “I’ll go in there.”
Steve gave a shrug, “Doesn’t matter, he’s not doing anything. Keep talking to your girlfriend.”
Luz’s face was burning before now she felt on fire.
“We’re not- She’s not-” Luz stuttered.
   “Whatever.” Steve smirked walking away.
There was an awkward silence as Steve left the two girls alone. Why did he have to tease? He made it weird.
“Well- I gotta go, dad wanted me to fetch something for him.” Amity nervously held her arm as she got up.
“Yeah- no - I need to watch Hunter- so you know.” Luz smiled sheepishly before retreating into the medbay.
She held herself against the closed door for a few seconds regretting everything that just happened. Amity was so cool and she was lucky to be her friend. Why was she so painfully obvious with her crush that even Steve knew to tease her. She needed to get over this- If Amity found out- it would make things weird- it would be weird- right?
Her thoughts stopped when she finally registered the room before her. The medbay was cleaner now. Steve had organized and put things away, he wasn’t particularly the most tidy person but when it came to important things he stepped up.
Her eyes naturally went to the beds first to see Hunter, but they were made and empty. The blonde boy was actually standing next to the desk eyeing the things on it. His back was facing her as he stared at the desk.
Luz was quiet as she approached, she didn’t want to startle him but she wanted to see what he was so fixated on. She peeked around him to see where his eyes were staring. They were wide like he was scared. He wasn’t shaking but he was barely breathing. Luz followed his gaze back to the table where a small knife was laying.
He was scared of the knife?
   No, that wasn’t it.
Navys had rash decisions forced into them.
“Hey,” She didn’t mean to make him jump but he did, for once showing emotion. Wide eyes staring at her like she was a ghost. “The knife can’t hurt you alone.”
He paused, turning back to it.
“I think it’s time I introduced you to my mom.” Luz grabbed Hunters wrist and brought him away from the desk. “You’ll like her.”

Hii! Are requests open? Poly Noco x reader please! (Just the normal headcanons! Orrr yandere if you want Pt.2!!) :) please delete this if requests are closed!
(THIS is the person who requested yandere noco x reader btw!!)
ofc anon! I did non Yan since it would kinda just be reiterating the Yan hcs. You didn't really specify, so I did crushing hc's! Hope this was okay! Did a lil fic bit at the end as I'm trying to get more comfy with it.
Tumblr media
(In these HC's, Noco is already canon and they're both crushing on Reader)
-Ah yes, ever the gentleman (Cody) and gentle man (Noah)
-These two. These absolute dumbasses hnkajsjsh
-Would be a mix of "We have to serenade them until they are dead on the floor" and "WAIT WAIT NO NO WHAT IF THEY DON'T LIKE THA-" and also "Hey babe are you a person because you sure do look like a person" -Cody, probably
-I head canon that Noah's secretly a hopeless romantic, he reads so many books and I bet they're literally only just non fiction or romance. No in-between.
-You'd definitely notice something's up. They can't lie for shit-
-E.g every time you see them they're whispering to each other and instantly clam up when they see you, suddenly can't look you in the eye anymore when talking to you, and they hang out with you less and less :(
-you'd think they hate you, but it is 1000% the opposite. These two are WHIPPED
-I can honestly imagine the others getting tired of y'all being so dumb and doing something like Lumity/Hooty's tunnel of love but shhhh
-The others are so. So tired of you guys being so OBVIOUS and so OBLIVIOUS THEY JUST *strangles you*
-Either one of the other campers tells them to grow up and encourage them to confess, or you walk your ass over there and confront them yourself. (Probably the second option, although I could see it being a mix of both.)
Tumblr media
You sighed, slipping out of your bunk. You had been more downcast lately, and it was because of your best friends. Or, ex- best friends now. Maybe. You really hoped not.
You just didn't understand! It was like they were constantly avoiding you, and any time they wanted to tell you something it was through another camper.
You were sick of it, and that's why you finally decided that today you would confront them about it, once and for all. And if they- if they didn't like you anymore, that was fine. No matter how much the thought stung.
However, as you swung open the door, you were greeted by the sight of just the two people you were about to visit, with Noah's hand mid knock.
...
"oh- OH! Y/N! There you are! I mean, of course you are! This is where you sleep, and you uh. Sleep. Here."
A voice piped up from behind him, and you were greeted by the sight of a very nervous looking Cody. Which was... Rare.
"We uh...- Haha! Funny thing actually,- We were uh... Just on our way to see you! To tell you. s-something."
You raised an eyebrow at that. Noah was usually always calm and collected, and Cody never dropped his 'flirty bad boy' persona act. In public, that is. So this was super out of character for them both.
"That's weird, I also had something to tell you two."
"Well, maybe we could go all say? O-On three?"
He desperately looked to Noah for confirmation (despite the other boy looking just as lost as he was) and turned to you once he had a thumbs up.
You were getting suspicious, this was usually something they did if they were like, really worried about something.
..But you nodded anyways, knowing what they would most likely say. Although it was odd how they seemed so excited about it??
"Okay!! 1.... 2.... 3!"
There was a pause when no body said anything for a few seconds and then-
"WILLYOUGOOUTWITHUS?"
"DOYOUGUYSHATEME?"
...Wait wait wait wait. Wait. Hold the phone- You were taken wayyyy aback. This... Was not what you had expected. At all.
"You thought we hated you?"
"You guys love me?"
You heard what sounded suspiciously like a mix between an exasperated groan and a snicker from behind you, but ignored it.
You... Were all going to have a good talk about this.
Tumblr media
Bonus:
Reader: Waiitttt. Are you guys... flirting? with me?
Noco: Have been for three years, thanks for noticing.

Tame the Beast
"But there’s something off when Raine comes inside tonight. The first thing they notice after closing the door behind them is something glowing, which they recognize to be a bottle of Eda’s elixir on the bedside table, completely full. And then there is a growl."
or
Raine meets the owl beast.
Read it on AO3 Here:https://archiveofourown.org/works/34020355
There’s always something strange going on at the owl house these days.
Hooty loves chattering everybody’s ears off and he is often swallowing up or breaking things he shouldn’t, Luz and King’s comedy hour somehow turned into Luz and King and Hunter’s prank each other hour somewhere along the way, and more often than not it is Raine and Eda who become their victims. You could say that not even at night the house is fully asleep, and so the constant noises, weird ones at that, are the norm.
Which is why Raine didn’t even flinch when they came up at the door of what now is their shared bedroom with Eda late at night and heard what sounded more like a monster snoring. Eda surely has always sounded like one when asleep.
But there’s something off when Raine comes inside tonight. The first thing they notice after closing the door behind them is something glowing, which they recognize to be a bottle of Eda’s elixir on the bedside table, completely full.
And then there is a growl.
When they look up, what stares at them is not the is not the playful glint of Eda’s beautiful golden eyes; but the void, pitch black of the owl beast’s angry gaze.
Raine startles so that their knees give out under them. They stumble backwards and fall on their butt, their back hitting the wooden door. The beast steps out of the nest, not at all happy at being taken out of its slumber, and slowly creeps towards them, head hang low and teeth bared.
Raine just stays where they are, shaking and paralyzed in fear at the sight of those huge sharp claws that could easily tear them apart. They feel a lump forming in their throat as they remember holding a crying, desperate Eda, after she accidentally hurt her father with those same claws. “It was to protect you!” is how she justified closing off, lying and pushing them away all those years ago. “I was terrified of what the beast would do to you if I ever lost control!” Even though it still hurts that Eda wasn’t able to trust them, Raine definitely understands what she was so scared of now.
Last they say it, when Eda was first cursed, the owl beast was different, smaller, and its mane was fiery gold like her hair. As the beast comes into their personal space, Raine shrinks into themself, whimpering “You’re a lot bigger than I what I remembered.”. The creature comes to a halt in front of them, and Raine closes their eyes and braces themself for a hit that never comes.
After a few seconds, when all they feel is the owl beast’s hot breath on their face, they open their eyes, and to their surprise, the beast doesn’t look angry anymore. It steps carefully around Raine, almost tiptoeing, and starts sniffing at them. “What are you doing?” they ask, mildly amused, even though they know it won’t answer, being too busy sniffing at their neck, their hair, their clothes and whatever it can finds. “Do you like my new cologne or something? That’d make sense, Eda likes it too.” They joke.
The beast reaches a particular sensitive spot at the back of their ear, and Raine lets out a high-pitched squeal. It startles for a second, but something left of Raine’s face seems to have attracted its attention. Raine sits perfectly still as the beast comes really close again. First there’s only the tickling sensation of its mane nuzzling their cheek, and its really stinking breath filling Raine’s nostrils, but suddenly there’s a painful tug at their ear “Ah! No! no, no, no! Don’t do that!” they yell and put their hands up, trying to move the beast’s face away from their own so it stops tugging at their earing. “Okay, okay, I’ll get it, I’ll get it for you, stop that!”
Owl beast Eda huffs, looking mildly offended at Raine’s resistance. They sigh, carefully removing the little piece of metal from their ear, and offer it to the owl beast with an outstretched hand. “Here. Is this what you wanted?” The beast cocks its head and gazes adoringly at the small shiny offering. It gently picks up the earing from Raine’s hand in its mouth and takes the treasure to its nest, along all the others, for safekeeping.
Now that the adrenalin is over and the beast is busy with its new toy, Raine takes a moment to really look at it.
The owl beast overall resembles a lot a gryphon, but half owl instead of the more common half eagle. Even though it is, unarguably, a beast, Raine can recognizes little bits of Eda in its face, in the silver of its mane, in how the ear tuffs frame its head just like Eda’s loose hair strands fall around her face. Its wings, even folded, are obviously very large, to be able to lift such a big creature into the air, (though Raine guesses the sheer amount of fur and feathers makes it look even bigger than it really is). Its appearance is very strong and brutish, but it walks and moves around with what Raine can only describe as cat like grace.
And to be fully honest, the way she looked at the earing and nuzzled Raine with such care was pretty adorable.
The beast finishes stashing its treasure and once again walks towards Raine, who gives it a confused look, right before being scooped by the back of their collar and taken to the nest, where they are very gently placed down. It takes them a few seconds to process what just happen, by the end of which she has already laid down and made herself comfortable, surrounding Raine with its strong paws.
The beast just cocks its head and quietly stares at Raine, as if trying to communicate something with its eyes alone. Against their better judgment, Raine outstretches their hands, and without hesitation, she butts its head against it, leaning into the warm touch of their hand. The silver fur is surprisingly soft against their skin, and just under their fingertips, Raine feels a slight vibration and realizes that she is purring. Loudly.
“Heh, you’re just a really big cat, aren’t you?” they whisper, voice filled with endearment, and slowly stroke the creature’s mane. “I would have never guessed.” The beast leans even further into Raine’s touch, who now has a lapfull of owl beast, and in turn, Raine nuzzles against the beast’s fur. It feels weirdly comfortable.
What a contrast this is to the tales Raine’s heard of the wild witch of Bonesborough, who, when angered or startled, would turn into a giant owl like violent and bloodthirsty monster who hurt countless citizens in its moments of rampage. Raine counts themselves lucky that the beast didn’t immediately pounce them; but then again, Eda said she had made a truce with the owl beast and that they both even talked sometimes. Raine guesses that, since they are Eda’s spouse, the beast must have recognized them as their mate. How cute.
After a while just sitting there, Eda looks a little tired, and Raine wonders how she would feel about a little lullaby. They draw a spell circle in air and summon their violin; and the creature’s eyes, which were half lidded, are now wide open and gazing at them with curiosity. The beast coos at the slow, sweet melody that comes out, its feathers puffing out in contentment. Raine can feel the beast’s loud purring against their back, just in time with the vibration of the strings. At one point in the middle of the song, the beast pulls back a little, just enough to nuzzle Raine’s cheek with its nose and lick them, and Raine’s heart soars. “Feels like sandpaper” they say, chuckling at the ticklish feeling the beast’s tongue left behind.
Raine keeps playing until they feel Eda’s body limping out with sleep. They dematerialize the violin and try to find themselves a comfortable position against her huge fluffy body. They lean against her mane, cradled between one paw and her face, surrounded by her warmth and comforted by the sound of her heartbeat and her steady breathing. Raine’s pretty sure tomorrow they will wake up with the worst back and shoulder pain ever, but tonight is the most comfortable they have been in a long while, the most safe and sound they have slept in their whole life.

Title: who we are in the aftermath
Fandom: The Owl House
Synopsis: Belos falls and the Golden Guard survives. It’s a new world and a new day, and sooner or later Hunter has to figure out where he fits in it.
Or: in which Hunter stays at the Owl House, becomes a (very, very reluctant) apprentice, continues to have accidental sibling shenanigans with the annoying human, and finally finds a place where he belongs. Probably.
AO3 link is here.
[Next chapter is here!]
.
chapter one: battling birds
They give him a room near the east side of the house, stuffed full of broken things and a miscellaneous number of random items. It’s not the human’s old room, and not Lilith’s, either—there’s too much dust and too much stuff for either option. Hunter can’t tell if he’s grateful for this or not. He’s still deciding on whether he’s grateful for the room at all.
There’s no time to set up a bed. He spends his first night here on a blanket, restless and half-awake and lying so still he’s half-convinced he’s shaking from the strain of not moving at all, not making a single sound. He can practically taste the dust on every inhale—does the Owl Lady ever clean, Titan help him—and by some godawful midnight hour Hunter gives up on sleep entirely and sits up, carefully, to whisper to his palisman.
Nothing important. None of the real questions that are swirling around in his head, like what am I even doing here and why am I still here and what am I supposed to do now, do you know? Instead he just says nonsense things, useless things, like “If I shine a flashlight in that little demon’s face do you think I could get him to chase the dot?”
The palisman coos and chirps and sings nonsense back. Red is a pretty color. I like tulips. If we iced over the Boiling Sea could we make human rain?
“None of those answers make sense,” Hunter tells it, and then writes a small note about the sea and rain connection on the dusty floor, if only because that’s actually kind of interesting and he wants to check it out again later.
Red tulips are tasty, replies the palisman, and nuzzles his fingers when he goes to pet it. Its feathers are soft and its eyes are luminous in the moonlight. Nonsense, all of it, but the nonsense helps—familiar as a friend, safe and easy. Better than thinking of Belos. Better than wondering what he’s doing here, sleeping on the floor in the Owl Lady’s house.
The human has left. He could walk out right now and she’d never know, not that her disappointment has any bearing on if he chooses to stay or go. She’s vanished back to the human world, probably gone forever. This house means nothing to Hunter—the Owl Lady is annoying and dislikes him about as much as Hunter dislikes her, and as endearing as the weird little demon is, that isn’t enough to make Hunter want to stay.
He could leave easily. He could go anywhere. He has nowhere to go.
“I don’t know what to do,” Hunter tells the palisman, at last, hours later. It is almost morning. The sunrise has only just begun, the peace of this dusty attic room wavering thin and fragile in the light of early dawn. It is a quiet admission. He says it very soft. “I don’t know if I know anything.”
I love you, says the palisman.
“That’s not an answer either.”
Oh, well.
Twenty minutes later, the Owl Lady’s weird bird-worm security creature bursts through the window and sings good morning loud enough to shatter eardrums. Hunter grabs his staff, throws a blast at the thing on instinct, teleports to the kitchen in a panic, and smacks the Owl Lady in the face with his palisman first thing in the morning.
.
The easy explanation is this: the castle falls and Belos dies and the Golden Guard somehow survives it all: portal collapse and half-realm merge and everything, which means when the dust settles, ultimately Hunter is left with absolutely no idea of what to do with himself.
“You should work with Eda!” says the human, in the aftermath. Given she says this in the ruin of what was once the Emperor’s castle, barely a half hour after—everything—Hunter feels pretty justified in his response. Which is to say he strangles his broken mechanical staff in his hands, takes a deep breath, and says in a very tight voice: “No.”
“But—!”
“No. No, no, no. I can’t even believe I did this, I don’t… it’s not happening. No.”
The human—he does actually know her name by now, after all they’ve been through, but also given all of This Nonsense she has lost name privileges—does not take that well. Of course she doesn’t. She’s so fourteen it makes Hunter want to die inside.
“Why not?” the human says, petulant. She has her hands on her hips and everything.
Hunter is kneeling in the rubble of a castle he’s called home for almost all his life. Somewhere down there is the throne where Belos used to sit; somewhere down there is a body. It’s not a surprise, really. It’s not a shock. From the moment the palisman fluttered into his life and Hunter let it stay, he always knew, deep down, that one day he was going to have to choose.
It does not make breathing any easier. “I don’t want to,” he says.
“You can learn wild magic! And, and glyphs! Eda knows a lot—”
“Does the Owl Lady know you’re offering up her house to an old enemy?”
“Eda won’t mind. Well, okay, maybe she’ll mind a little, but— she’ll let you stay if I ask her!” Yeah. The Owl Lady probably would. The human has that witch wrapped around her little finger; Hunter almost snorts. “Please, just hear me out. I’m sure we can—”
“No.”
“Hunter…”
“Don’t talk like we’re friends,” Hunter hisses. He drops the broken remains of the mechanical staff and stands, his hands curled to fists. “Don’t talk like you know me. You don’t know anything. You don’t—” He can’t breathe. He drops back to his knees in the rubble and rubs a hand over his eyes. “Just stop. Please.”
The human doesn’t say anything for a long time. On his shoulder, the palisman, thus far staying silent, flutters its wings and hops down to his knee, nudging his hand with its beak. It sings nothing. Just stays there.
After a moment, the human kneels next to him. There is blood on her face and dirt staining her leggings. “I know,” she says, and she suddenly sounds very tired. “I’m sorry.”
Hunter doesn’t say anything.
“I just—” the human starts, and then she stops. “I don’t know how else to help you.”
She looks small and weirdly sad, which makes no sense at all, because she hated Belos and never really understood why Hunter did not. (Hunter is not sure why either. If that is still something he can say. If you can betray your uncle and fight against your uncle and—and— and do these things, do everything Hunter has done, and still say that this feeling isn’t hatred.)
They aren’t friends, Hunter and the human. They have barely been allies. He doesn’t need her help, and she probably knows that as well as he does. But Hunter looks at her then, and despite the rubble and the ash and the blood on his tongue, for some reason instead of digging himself a makeshift grave he says—
“…Okay.”
Which still doesn’t really explain anything, but then, that’s just how it goes.
.
“Okay!” says the Owl Lady, smacking down her second cup of apple blood on the table. She does it too hard—a good splash of blood escapes the confines of the cup and adds yet another stain to her already-stained dining table. Hunter raises an eyebrow. The Owl Lady glares back. “House rules.”
There’s a red mark on her cheek, still, from where Hunter had hit her with his staff, and a stain all down her side from when, upon being hit with the staff, the Owl Lady spluttered and cursed and accidentally spilt the first cup of apple blood all over herself and the floor. She looks… barely awake.
“House rules,” Hunter echoes, dryly.
“Your scorn is noted and not appreciated.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry.” His palisman pecks his hand lightly. “Ow.”
“Luz, you owe me one,” mutters the Owl Lady, and takes a really deep drink of her apple blood. Hunter rubs at his hand, peeved, and eyes the palisman in case it gets any more hand-pecking ideas. The palisman blinks innocently back. Hmm.
“So. First of all.” The Owl Lady raises a finger. “Break any of my stuff and I end you.”
So just like the castle, then. Hunter sees where this is going. He settles gingerly back against the chair—why, why is all of her furniture stained—and rests his cheek against one fist, already bored. “Noted.”
The Owl Lady puts up a second finger. There’s a long silence.
“…Seriously?” says Hunter.
“Quiet, you.” She snaps her fingers. “Hah! Got one! Hurt King or Luz or Hooty or anyone I like in any way and I’ll destroy you. Yeah, that works.”
Hunter gets the sneaking suspicion these house rules are being made up on the spot, and are also only for him. He knows better than to say that aloud. “Fine.” Wait. “How am I supposed to know which random people you like or dislike?”
The Owl Lady grins. Her gold fang glints. “That sounds like a you problem, don’t you think?” She cackles a little. “Guess you’ll just have to find out! Or, you know. Maybe don’t attack anyone? That’s a start.”
Her owl palisman coos a little. Her nose wrinkles. “What? What do you mean that’s hypocritical? Stay out of this, Owlbert, I’m teaching life lessons or something.” Her eyes turn to him. “Anyway. You get the gist.”
Hunter’s hand is curled white-knuckled around his knee. His palisman flutters from the table to his shoulder, singing nonsense again. Red tulips, so tasty. Its feathers brush against his cheek.
He pries his grip off his knee one finger at a time. “…Understood.”
“Good.” The Owl Lady stands and stretches, yawning wide into one hand. “Anyway, I’ll give you a pass for this morning, because Hooty can be…” She trails off. Outside, muffled by the front door, the bird-worm creature shouts “HOOT” at full volume and then smacks into a tree.
“…a lot,” decides the Owl Lady. “But seriously, keep the windows locked. I don’t want you trying to blast him and burning my house down. I just got it back.”
Hunter says nothing. The Owl Lady squints at him and then picks her mug back up. “Riiiight… well, good talk, I guess. Get some more sleep, kid, you look worse than Luz after an all-nighter.” She waits. Hunter raises an eyebrow at her. “Ugh. I don’t know why I agreed to this.”
At least Hunter isn’t the only one second-guessing everything. Still, that reminds him. “The human.”
“Luz,” says the Owl Lady, unimpressed.
“Yeah, whatever.” He links his fingers. The palisman flies down from his shoulder to his cupped hands, and hops a determined circle in his palm for no apparent reason. Hunter watches it play. “…Is she coming back?”
“What, tired of our company already?”
“Yes,” Hunter says, because obviously.
“Rude. Well, can’t say the feeling isn’t mutual.” There’s a long silence. The Owl Lady sighs. “Luz… she promised she’d come back. You were there, weren’t you?”
Yeah, he had been. Standing in the back of the group, on the fringes of the goodbye. Two hours after the end, and the human had already roped the Owl Lady into letting Hunter live in her stupid owl house, and also somehow run around hugging pretty much everyone. And then she’d stepped through the mirrors that were all that remained of the realm-merge between her world and theirs, and not come back since.
She had, indeed, promised to return. But that was hours ago; that was yesterday. The mirrors are gone and no doors remain. And Hunter does not put much faith in promises.
“And when,” he asks the Owl Lady, a little lofty, a little snide. “When, exactly, do you think she’s coming back?”
The Owl Lady’s eyes narrow. Her lips press thin. For a moment he thinks she might snap at him, but then her shoulders slump, and in the end she just looks away.
“I don’t know,” the Owl Lady admits.
Useless, Hunter thinks. But he doesn’t say it. Just nods and turns away to head back upstairs and make that stupid dusty storage room somewhat presentable, because if he’s going to be staying here for—for—for whatever amount of time he ends up staying here, he’s going to breathe actual air instead of dust, thanks.
“Remember, kid! House rules!”
“Yeah, yeah,” Hunter says, and teleports back up the stairs without a single glance back.
.
Hunter manages to shove all the junk into one corner and make the start of a fairly presentable bed in the other corner by the time the human re-arrives in the Boiling Isles and throws open his door hard enough to smack it against the wall.
“You took my advice!” shouts the human, at the top of her lungs.
“Hiiiiii,” says Hunter, hands over his ears. The human takes a deep breath. Hunter closes the door in her face. “Byeeee.”
“Hey!”
“Why are you yelling.”
“I can’t believe you’re here!”
It’s just nonsensical enough to get him to open the door. Why does this always happen to him? Why is the human like this? “You said I should come here! You said—”
“Psh,” says the human and flaps a hand in his face. Hunter stops mid-word, gritting his teeth, practically feeling his whole face turn bright red with rage. “I didn’t mean it in a bad way! I just— I didn’t think you would actually listen! But you’re here!” She’s beaming. Hunter looks away. Her smile fades. “…Are you okay?”
He can’t sleep. His eyes are hot and burning like he wants to cry and he has no idea why. His uncle is dead.
“No,” he tells her. “No one in this house dusts. I’ve forgotten what air tastes like.”
“Psh-haw! I’m sure it's not that…” The human steps inside, inhales, and chokes. “Oh. Ay Dios mío. Wow, this room has not been dusted.”
“I noticed!”
“Oh, man.” She hides her nose in her elbow and sidles outside again. She’s wearing her weird human clothes and her palisman staff strapped to her back. She looks tired, and a little like she has no idea what she’s doing here either. She lingers in the door almost awkwardly, rolling back and forth from her heels to her toes.
Hunter watches her for a long moment. “You came back.”
“Haha. What gave it away?” But the smile she gives is small and blinding, brighter than the sun. “Watch this.”
“Watch wha—” The human lifts her hand and trails it through the air, dragging her fingers down in a straight line. Golden light follows her fingers. It breaks the air like a fractured mirror, a rift sparking to life in the hallway, the dark greens and blues of a galaxy intertwined with a burning glow. Hunter’s voice dies in his throat.
“If I push at it, it opens. Like a door. It leads me right home.” She’s smiling so wide it must hurt. The portal almost seems to whisper; the golden glow of the rift shines in her eyes and catches on her face, still tear-streaked. The human’s cried over this. She’s right to. The human world and the Boiling Isles—she has found a way to keep both.
Presumably he thinks he should be jealous. Instead he finds himself smiling too. “I’m glad,” Hunter tells her. “That’s… pretty cool.”
“Right!?” She bounces on her heels and waves a hand through the rift, dismissing it into nothing. “I can’t wait to show Amity. And Eda. And King. And you! The human world is—it’s amazing. The rain doesn’t kill you even a little bit!”
It takes sudden effort to keep up the smile. “…I’ve heard.”
“Anyway, I just came by to say hi. Eda said you were here, and—” She stops, visibly hesitating. Her head lowers. “I know… I know this must be hard. And that we aren’t really friends. But… if you need anyone to talk to… I’m here.” She peeks up her head a little, grinning. “After all, we’re house buddies now!”
“Human,” Hunter says. Her nose wrinkles. He sighs. “Luz.”
“Yeah?”
There’s so much he could say that for a moment he has no idea where to start. Why did you think this was a good idea. Please stop talking. Why are you so insistent that we could be friends. I didn’t say I was staying here for long. I’m very tired. You’re bizarrely forgiving. My uncle is dead because of you.
“…Thanks,” he says. “And— I’m sorry.”
Luz blinks at him. Then she grins. “Noooo problem, ol’ buddy ol’ pal!”
Hunter shoves her stupid smiling face away and closes the door on her toes. Luz yelps and swears and kicks at the door, and yells rude things in that other human language of hers. “Byeeeee,” Hunter says, and behind the closed door, Luz makes a muffled noise of rage and shouts, “Would you stop saying that!?”
And it doesn’t make things better but it doesn’t make things any worse, either, and when Hunter turns away he is almost smiling—so maybe it’s okay.
.
The sun sets. The dusty room has been aired out to its best ability, and Hunter has made a somewhat functional and comfy-looking bed in the corner. A sticky note with the boiling sea + ice = human rain idea has been ceremoniously pinned to the empty wall space. In addition to the sticky notes, Luz has donated his “sad, bad boy room” what looks to be a dying houseplant. Hunter suspects she gave it to him purely because she has despaired of trying to keep it alive herself.
He puts the plant on the windowsill. The palisman apparently loves it. Maybe he should find red tulips for it to eat. Whatever a red tulip is.
He settles next to the palisman on the windowsill, and strokes its head with his finger. He feels strangled and small and the sunset looks alien to him. Everything has changed. Everything is over. He is a powerless witch with a wild magic staff, and he will never be the Golden Guard again.
His eyes burn. He blinks fast. Far down below, he can hear the Owl Lady and Luz arguing over dinner.
“I still don’t know what I’m doing here,” Hunter tells the palisman. The sunset makes all the trees look shadow-like and sharp, outlined in red. It reminds him of his palisman, a little bit. “I don’t even like these people. What do you think? Is it too late to head back and dig myself a grave in the rubble?”
I’m happy I know you, chirps the palisman. It hops from the dying houseplant to the top of his head.  I love you, I love you.
His throat feels tight. “…That still isn’t a real answer.”
I want apple blood for breakfast tomorrow. The palisman nibbles at his hair. It looks tasty.
He’s quiet for a long moment. Then he closes his eyes. “Okay. If— if you say so.”
The sun is setting, and the light is warm on his face. The Boiling Isles feels, for once, almost something like peaceful. It probably won’t last.
“We’ll stay.”

Fortunes of Love Pt 6 (Eda x OC)
Summary: Niliana goes through a rather tiring day, just wishing she had more time to sleep.
Pt 1 Pt 2 Pt 3  Pt 4 Pt 5 Pt 6
The market was bustling with life that day. Niliana just had to be there on the busiest day of the week at the busiest time, didn’t she? As she struggled to push her way through the throng she wondered if it wouldn’t have been better to just skip the nap and go earlier in the day even if it would have left her exhausted. Whatever, she couldn’t do anything about that now.
She heaved a sigh of relief when she finally reached her tent, the din of the crowd muffled ever so slightly by the heavy fabric of the tent walls. With a snap of her fingers, the dark was lit by the clusters of various candles scattered about. She was thankful to find that nothing had been moved or taken while she was gone. Usually, she would put up some sort of ward to keep potential thieves and troublemakers away but she hadn’t gotten the chance to do so yesterday after running into King.
It had been a very long time since she had taken the tent down. She couldn’t even remember the last time that happened. This tent had been her home for so many years now, there really had been no need, but today would be different. She really couldn’t leave it up if she wasn’t going to be around for a couple of days.
It really only took a few minutes to pack everything up, items flying about. The tent folded in on itself, blanketing everything else until it formed a single pack. Then, with a circle of light, it vanished. All that was left was her small stall, but she could leave that behind. It wasn’t exactly that important.
Unfortunately, now that the tent was gone she was surrounded on all sides by the crowd once again. She noticed that there was a small group of witchlings nearby that stared up at her in wonder. Clearly they had watched her put her tent away, amazed by the show of magic they were incapable of doing themselves. Nily gave them a shy little wave and a few of them waved back before the whole group ran off, talking and giggling amongst themselves.
She made her way to the library, avoiding as much of the crowd as possible. The library itself wasn’t nearly as busy, the silence deafening after the noise from outside.
It took her longer than she would have liked to go over the beast taming section, glancing through the different book titles. There were a few books that sounded promising. She picked those ups and gleaned through the chapter titles, but nothing seemed to quite fit Eda’s situation. After some time she decided it may be best to look in a different section. Eda was cursed, right? Then maybe she needed a book on curses instead.
By the time she finally left the library, sadly empty-handed, the sun was getting dangerously close to the horizon. She felt a bit of panic rise in her chest. Eda would be waking up soon if she hadn’t already. She took a deep breath. She was sure it would be fine. Hooty knew not to let him out and she had to trust King was smart enough not to get himself killed. Still, she rushed back as quickly as she could.
Luckily, when she got back the house hadn’t been torn apart or something.
“Hey Nily!” Hooty croaked in his annoying voice as the witch approached the front door.
“Everything okay?”
“Yep!”
Nily had opened the door before he had even answered but froze in the doorway.
The living room was empty.
She took another deep breath, shoving the panic down once more. Hooty said everything was, so she must be in the house. She just wasn’t in the living room. And she couldn’t be chasing King around or something because there was no screaming or the sound of running footsteps.
She left her staff by the door, the wooden snake curled on top suddenly springing to life and slithering up her arm to rest on her shoulders. She smiled at him, giving him a little scratch under his chin before going to search the house.
Thankfully, it didn’t take long. Eda was just such a large creature there weren’t too many places to hide. She ended up finding her in what she assumed was her room. The pair of double doors were already open, revealing the decently large room beyond filled with various shelves and boxes of stuff and a large nest against the left wall, complete with sticks and some shiny things. That’s where Eda was, laying in her nest, pitch-black eyes staring at her the moment she appeared in the doorway. A low growl filled the room, making the witch freeze in place.
The growling quickly turned into chirps of delight. She bounded out of her nest to meet the witch. She smiled, chuckling at her.
“Hey hun, what’re you up to?”
The beast cooed back. Apparently not much.
“Do you know where King is?”
Eda just blinked back at her.
“He’s probably napping somewhere, isn’t he? So much for keeping an eye on you, huh?”
She chuckled to herself and went downstairs, Eda following close behind.
---------------------------------------------
When Luz got home she didn’t burst through the door like she usually did. She was a bit more subdued. Of course, that didn’t stop her from shouting an “I’m home!” and smiling at the wonderful smells that were coming from the kitchen. She smiled a little wider when she got to the kitchen and saw everyone together. Nilly was cooking, of course, while King looked like he was trying to play with a very uninterested looking Eda at the table. She looked at the girl as she walked in, making a cute little cooing sound.
“Welcome back, hun! Did you have a good day with your friends?”
“Yeah, it was pretty good.” Luz shrugged her shoulders, sitting at the table.
King whipped his head around, narrowing his eyes at the girl critically. Luz started to sweat a bit under his gaze.
“Are you sure about that?” He asked, leaning a little closer. Luz tried not to look right at him.
“Whaaat? Yeah, of course! Why would I lie?”
Clearly, no one believed her. Even Nily was giving her a side glance that said she knew something was off. At least she didn’t bother the girl about it, unlike King.
“Did something happen?”
“No.”
“Something happened.”
“Nothing happened!”
“Something had to have happened! I know these things.”
“Clearly you don’t.”
“Yes I do! I know everything.”
“No, you don’t.”
“I do!”
“Then you tell me what happened.”
“So something DID happen!”
Luz groaned in frustration, sinking into her seat and stubbornly crossing her arms, refusing to say anything else. King looked triumphant, proudly resting his hands on his hips and puffing out his chest like he just won some great battle. Nily shook her head.
“King, leave her be. If she wants to talk about she’ll talk about it. Pestering her isn’t going to help anything.”
King deflated slightly at her words, sitting back down.
“Sorry, Luz.”
She smiled at him.
“It’s okay, King. I just don’t want to talk about it.”
For a moment they just sat in awkward silence. Luz desperately looked around for something to talk about to break the quiet.
“Hey, why is Eda wearing a collar?”
That seemed to do it well enough. King blinked at Luz, then looked really hard at Eda who blinks back owlishly. It was very difficult to make out, blended almost perfectly with the feathers on her neck, but sure enough, there was a collar there. It just looked like she had some gray leather around her neck.
“It glows in the dark.” Niliana said, not even bothering to look up from her work. She was already getting the plates ready. “So I can keep an eye on her when she goes outside at night.”
“What!” Luz shouted, jumping to her feet and slamming her hands on the table, making Eda and King jump. “You’re playing with her outside? I want to do that!”
Niliana hummed, thinking it over. Of course Luz would want to spend more time with Eda, especially outside where there was more room. But going out at night did not seem like the best idea, especially for the teenager who was still growing and needed her sleep. Maybe if they went out earlier in the day.
“Not today.” She finally said, placing the plates on the table. “It’s a bit too late and I don’t want you outside when it’s dark. We can try tomorrow before dinner.”
Luz huffed but sat down. “Fine.” Of course, the frown didn’t stay on her face long. “I can’t wait! We’re going to have so much fun!”
“Hey! I want to come too!” King shouted, apparently feeling left out. “I can make her my minion of evil!”
Eda was staring at them intently and Nily noticed. Well, she wasn’t staring at the people at the table. It was more like she was staring at their plates, grumbling to herself and drooling. So, she made another plate and put it on the floor for her, too. There wouldn’t be any leftovers today, but no one really cared, especially when King and Luz just laughed and giggled at how happy it made the owl beast.
--------------------
This night was darker than yesterday. Niliana could only just make out the branches of the trees above her and the trunks surrounding her. She had to walk slowly to make sure she didn’t run into anything. Far ahead of her, in the branches, she could make out the glow of something teal, Eda moving around and jumping about, doing whatever.
It was only the second night, but Nily was already slowing down. She was still tired from last night and not getting nearly enough sleep throughout the day to make up for it. Still, she trudged on, keeping Eda within sight the best she could.
And that worked for a while. But then, well into the night when the moon was on its way down, she lost sight of her. It happened in the blink of an eye. One moment, she could make out the glow of her color bopping about ahead of her. The next, it was gone. Niliana didn’t freak out like she thought she would. She was far too tired for that. Instead, she just sighed and mounted her broom, flying above the tree canopy.
It was much brighter up here, the moon and stars lighting everything up and giving them a silver glow. But Nily didn’t really have time to admire it, she had a cursed beast to find.
She didn’t see anything above the trees, so it was unlikely she had flown away. She flew down, hovering over the canopy and gazing through the branches, searching for any sign of movement or the glow of the collar.
She had only been at it for a short while, likely less than a minute, when she heard the branches nearby start to rustle. Suddenly, a giant mass burst out. She just managed to swerve out of the way and avoid getting knocked off her staff. Well, that was one way to wake her up.
“Eda, what was that for?” she shouted, but there was no anger in her voice.
The owl beast was flying next to her. Well, flying circles around her, really, each beat of her wings nearly grazing the witch's shoulders. The beast trilled at her, a smile clear on her face.
They flew together for a while, Niliana just following Eda around. She had more than enough time now to admire her surroundings. Sure, she flew around quite a bit, often very high, but it had been a very long time since she got to do it a night. The stars were so clear and bright.
The horizon was just turning gray, dawn fast approaching, when Eda decided she wanted to go home. She walked through the woods slowly, clearly very tired. Not that Niliana was complaining. She didn’t exactly have the most energy either. So, they walked, the morning air crisp, the birds just beginning to sing. It was nice.
When they got back to the house, ignoring Hooty’s good mornings, Nily immediately collapsed onto the couch, face down in the cushions. It was not a very comfortable couch, but she was just so tired it felt like the softest couch on the Isles. Eda settled next to the couch, staring intently at the witch until she moved again. She just grabbed the blanket and dragged it over her shoulders, mumbling a good night to the owl beast before promptly falling asleep.
Eda watched her a moment longer before giving an enormous yawn and curling up as close to the couch as she could. It didn’t take her long to fall asleep, either.
When Luz and King came down later in the morning, they decided they wouldn’t bother Nily today. They let her sleep as long as she needed.

Highlights of The owl house 2x05 Through the looking Glass ruins
Yesterday was the release of the owl house episode 2x05 “Through the Looking Glass Ruins”. Compared to the past four epsidoes this one was significantly calmer (no complaints here at this point we needed an episode like this) but it still had some really good points. I am going to go into them below but first I want to give a special shout out to the three characters who in my opinion were MVP’s of this episode:
:Gus, Mattolomule, and Emira; you three made the episode for me! Yes I liked the Lumity, Lumity is super cute. But these were three characters I had been really wanting to see get more development and I am very happy with the development they got. So highlight below
Gus getting an episodes A plot to focus on him! We see him lose his passion for Illusions after a trick he tried to fix a problem only made it worse, but then go on a quest to regain his confidence.
Also more lore on the illusion track. It’s seen as a lesser track. Crazy. Illusion spells are great and Gus is a fantastic wizard.
how dangerous are pixies? After this episode I grudgingly have a bit of respect for Boshca because she apparently lives with a pixie and has yet to come to school mulled.
Mattolomule backstory. So From this I can gather that Glandis is Matty’s old school and Bria and her cronies are his old “friends”. The wiki says he was expelled, but I re-watched SVSF and I couldn’t find where it said that. This episode implys that his parents pulled him from Glandis because he was having a really bad time.
Mattolomule’s time at Glandis not being used as an excuse for the way he behaves now, and seeing him own up to being a jerk and starting to make better choices.
Gus and Matt becoming friends and getting a weekend volunteer job. Gus will certainly be a better influence on Matt than the Glandis trio were, and I feel like Matt could be good for Gus too, because now he has a guy friend who is around his same age.
Edric crushing so hard on someone to where he wants to look perfect for their date, texts them poems, and has both their number and the numbers of their family members saved in his phone. Man when Blights fall fr someone they fall hard.
Edric’s crush being refered to as “Their”. This could be to hide the gender of Ed’s date, but Dana has openly talked about characters sexuality and gender before, and said that in the boiling isles all parts on the sexuality and gender spectrum have been normalized to the point were everybody is open abut them. So that suggests that Ed may be Pan and starting a relationship with a Nonbinary individual.
Emira finally getting some of her own characterization. I did not like the Blight twins at first. One big reason was because in a post Gravity Falls disney I am not okay with the tired old concept of having twin characters, who except for 1-2 tiny differences in their appearance are the exact same character with two bodies. In AITE Edric got some development. We saw that he was the more goofy, curios twin, and that he has a fascination with animals, particularly one s that could potentially hurt him. Also re-watching SVSF I think he is a bit more powerful than Emira. Emira so far has only been portrait as the just slightly more sane twin, who watches Ed’s crazy then makes the choice to stop or join him. In this episode we see her take a more big sisterly role and we learn she has an interest in beautification, and helps/gives both her siblings advice on how to look their best.
I have been wanting the twins to join the duel track since AITE when we learned that they still maintain top scores in illusions even though they don’t go everyday; and might in fact skip school because they are under challenged and board. Illusion and Beast Keeping are obvious choices for Edric. After getting some of Emira’s interests in this episode I would say put her in illusions and potions track. When she gets older she can make and launch her own line of cosmetics.
Luz has a new pet. Luz mousy needs a name and for you to keep it in a tank/cage stocked with bedding and stimuli, away from Hooty. Only let King play with it if some one is watching him.
Amity has lilac hair. I expect her natural brown hair, but that is kinda silly since Amity’s personal style is kinda punk/gothic. The lilac hair will take some getting used to, and I am not to sure about leaving those two front locks brown. But someone pointed out that now her hair is the same color her and Luz’s Grom tree and that is adorable.
Amity pecked Luz on the cheek. It happened. We all saw it. Luz now knows Amity likes her back.

FULL REVIEWS: “Enchanting Grom Fright”
The hype for this episode was unreal. We got the crew telling us that we weren’t ready on social media. It was a madhouse. To think that the little ship that could would have this big a leap in canon is unreal. Let’s just get to it.
Tumblr media
The cold open starts with Luz trying to find more glyphs in her off time. I thinks it really shows her development so far. Now she’s willing to do the work to figure out her kind of magic, as oppose to say episode two where she just wanted to be great because she was “chosen.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“My glyph skills are blossoming”
Tumblr media
But then reality ensues...
Using the portal to let the wifi signal into The Owl House is not the dumbest reason I’ve heard to open an interdimensional portal between worlds but it is one of the most mundane. SOMEHOW, Luz can still receive texts from her mom FROM ANOTHER WORLD. Not that it makes too much of a difference since Luz barely answers them.
As much fun as it is to focus on the magic and the shipping and the friendship and the curse, Luz still knows that she’s still lying to her mom. The guilt is there, but luckily being a main character keeps her too busy to think about it.
Tumblr media
“Luz, time to fill that darling head of yours with...huuh huuh huuh HAKKK, mmm, mmm, mmh, delicious knowledge.”
Never change, Hooty.
Tumblr media
It’s that time of year again that Luz doesn’t know about yet, Grom: The Boiling Isles’ weird version of prom. Every fantasy world has one.
Tumblr media
*hiss*
Amity bumps into Luz, and I know this is going to sound weird, but I really like Amity’s “Watch it, nitwit.” Amity’s character has changed and developed from our perspective which is the perspective of Luz and The Owl House fam. But she’s not a completely different character. Amity still has a bit of a temper and gets agitated easily. It makes sense to me and I’m glad I haven’t found anyone be like “Hey if Amity is nicer, why did she get mad when she bumped into someone?”
Amity is nicer to Luz and co. because she’s gotten to know Luz and co. You don’t treat everyone in your life the same. Amity is one of those people that you need to defrost with first. Belief is backed up by experience and so are people’s personas. (Not that persona. I’m being serious here.) Because of Amity’s experiences, she’s believed that in order to survive she has to put people at arm’s length, then when she gets to know you, she’ll decide if she wants to let you in or not. So I guess that means that based on her interactions with Luz, Amity has decided...
You know what? I’ll save that for my Lumity meta.
The popular theory is that Amity was going to put her note in Luz’s locker, hence why she bumped into them. But actually seeing Luz and being announced as grom queen probably made her lose her nerve.
Tumblr media
“Embrace your dreams...”
Amity is announced to be this year’s grom queen. Luz is happy for her before Amity runs in shock and embarrassment. Okay.
Luz discovers the gym’s weapons cache (not a thing I thought I would ever type) and Amity explains grom. Since Luz is from the human world and all that.
Grom is a monster that lives under the school and needs to be defeated every year so it doesn’t invade the town. It’s a classic shape-shifting fear monster. Odd are I have (and so have you) at least seen three or four of these in our lives already. Amity doesn’t want to show the entire school her greatest fear, especially since she already knows what it is. Luz suggest talking to Bump and Amity says she’ll try.
Tumblr media
Another scene of Eda and King laughing and mocking Luz. Because I liked it so much the first time.
Eda gets dressed up herself because she’s volunteered to chaperone grom. Luz tells her that Amity is grom queen but wishes that she could take her place. We get...you know and Luz walks off.
Tumblr media
“I think we should kiss to ease the tension.”
Luz randomly meets up with Amity in the woods because I guess Amity had the same idea to take a walk to clear her head. Whatever. Amity tells Luz that Bump wasn’t going to change his mind unless Amity found a replacement. Luz volunteers because...she’s Luz, friend to all.
Except maybe that spider.
Tumblr media
Top 10 Anime Betrayals
The Blight Siblings try to help Luz train against grom only for Eda to find out about their little plan. Here’s where we find out why Eda volunteered to chaperone a Hexside event even though she hates that place:
“What’s the fun in watching a kid get eaten by a monster if it’s my kid?”
That’s hilarious. To me.
Tumblr media
Luz and Amity have a moment before Luz’s debut and Amity thanks Luz for everything she’s done. They have more adorable banter before Luz takes the stage.
“Wish me luck.”
“Luck.”
I’m guessing that’s not an expression in The Boiling Isles.
Tumblr media
Luz faces Grom and it seems to be going better than everyone predicted until...you know
Tumblr media
“Mija, this would be such a good shot for the trailer.”
Yup, we all predicted this. Luz’s greatest fear is her mom finding out that she’s been lying to her. Luz panics and takes off with Eda and Amity to chase after her.
Eda comes in for the save when Amity bursts in the scene saying “Boy let me tell you what.” She doesn’t really I just like saying that. You know, in my head. I mean, if you heard the way I was saying it out loud you’d probably think it was funny too but you know...text.
Tumblr media
Grom gets a hold of Amity and transforms into her greatest fear. And we see why Amity didn’t want to face Grom in front of the whole school. She didn’t want everyone to see that Amity’s fear is very...emotional. Not physical. She’s not afraid of a giant spider or anything. It’s a little closer to the heart.
Tumblr media
Amity clutching at her dress like a little kid is both the cutest and the saddest thing. This fear of hers is so bad it makes this fourteen year old feel like she’s four. I’m so sure she was about to cry right there. Or maybe that’s me. Could be both.
Luz picks up the note and discovers that Amity was trying to ask somebody out before she was announced as grom queen. Amity was afraid of being rejected. Luz tries to ease her fears by asking her out to grom.
Trying seeing it from Luz’s point of view. She has no idea who Amity wants to ask out. Luz doesn’t even consider that it could be her because again, belief is backed by experience. Luz was considered a weirdo with no friends in the human world. She even said earlier in the episode that she got kicked out of her last school dance for dressing like an otter. Luz has no reason to believe that someone would like her romantically. She would like to. It is a fantasy of hers, but her experience tells her that other people don’t see her that way so she doesn’t consider that Amity wanted to ask Luz out.
I’ll save the rest for another blog post, although I did talk about this last year too.
But since Amity did want to ask Luz out and Luz asked her out instead, Amity’s fears are eased. Grom does what every fear monster does when their target overcomes their fears and says “Screw it, I’m just going to kick your ass!”
And then this happens:
Tumblr media
As a Star vs the Forces of Evil fan, let me just say this is our Blood Moon Ball moment. The moment that the show tells the audience in John Oliver’s voice, “Yup this is the ship we’re doing so strap in folks.”
Luz and Amity work together to combine magic to take down Grom. It also helps that they eased each others’ fears. Luz can’t think about her mom if she’s focused on helping Amity.
Tumblr media
Luz and Amity defeat Grom in a blaze of glory. Luz being Luz, decides to ask Amity who she wanted to ask out just to see if she would tell you. Amity brushes it off.
Tumblr media
“It doesn’t matter. After all, I already got to dance with the girl I like.”
Everyone celebrates but when Luz gets home she’s more tired than anything.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maybe it was Grom, but Luz decides to give her mom a real answer. It’s been tough but it’s also been fun. There are good and bad days. Sometimes she feels like she doesn’t belong. But she has friends. They care about her, she cares about them, and that’s more than enough reason to stay.
THEN THIS SHIT HAPPENS!
Tumblr media
Yeah, the Meteora moment in Star vs the Forces of Evil. The moment where the show went “Never mind that shit. Here comes a complete change in the status quo.”
Someone or something is sending Luz’s mom letters. It’s Luz’s handwriting, but it’s clearly not Luz since she can’t spell her name right. Season one already finished and we still have no idea what this is.
I was all happy a second ago. Now I’m nervous as all hell. It’s a madhouse I tells ya. A madhouse!
Tumblr media
FINAL SCORE: 5 - LOVED IT!
Wow. Just wow. This episode had everything. Jokes, plot, romance, character development, cameos, dancing, girls, MOM(?), crashing on your couch because technically I’m homeless.
Tumblr media
I shipped Lumity before this, but this was the episode that told me that yes it was going to happen. We’re all in.
But it’s not perfect.
Yeah, did any of you noticed that I didn’t even mention the B-plot? I’m going to be honest. The reason is...
I hate it.
I hate the B-plot so much that I skip it every time I watch this episode. I still don’t think Gus is that funny or interesting. Hell, Skara’s mini plot with her date and/or boyfriend was funnier.
But everything else about the episode more than outshines the B-plot so I still give it a five.
Next time we finish up the lumity trilogy next time.
Tumblr media
Dammit I said next time twice.

The Owl House Introspective | Zodiac Signs
hello hello. so it seems there aren’t any canon birthdays for the characters (yet). and me being me, i love to know character’s astrology signs because it’s a passion of mine! and i’ve more than enough time on my hands, so let’s take a deep dive into what the character’s signs could be!
*this is just my opinion based on my knowledge of astrology and how i interpret the signs. i’d love to hear what you think, if you agree or disagree!
Tumblr media
Luz Noceda
Luz Luz Luz. Okay. So I’m not great at doing summaries for characters, BUT it’s easy to see that she can be very short tempered and act before thinking. She comes off as very social and easily gets along with everyone she meets. She’s high energy and seemingly is always on the go. But that’s just on the surface. At her core, she is very family oriented. She can be very emotional and I feel that family really drives her to make the decisions she does. She would do anything for anyone she cares for. She is most definitely creative and imaginative. And at her worst, she’s pessimistic and moody. And with that being said, Luz is a
Cancer Sun, Aries Rising.
(Possibly Libra Moon but I was too lazy to think that deep into it right now.)
I saw both of these results when trying to find her sign, and I think this works out so well. When we first meet her, she resembles an Aries. Loud and outspoken. A little firecracker ready to stand up for what she believes in. And I think her core (her sun sign) really powers this. As we get to know her, we see a more emotional side to her. As for the Libra moon thing, I took a quiz to get an idea of what signs she may be and Libra was in the top three. And it would make sense. But I’m not entirely sure.
Tumblr media
Eda Clawthorne
The wonderful, amazing, perfect, beautiful, awesome, (okay, we get it you love Eda) Eda. She’s hard to figure out. Which is a part of her character so cool deal. She is outgoing and passionate. She adapts very easily to change and maybe even prefers it. She loves adventure and definitely doesn’t like to be forced into a single box. She wants to learn any and everything. She thrives on being able to do her own thing and figure out the world through experience rather than learning by the book. She is humorous and fun to be around. But she can also be impulsive and not really think before she acts. She also doesn’t really consider others when doing so. But despite all of that, she is also very secretive. She hides a lot of herself and rarely opens up emotionally, even though she has a lot of feelings. She hides her emotions often. This is a conflict between her sun sign and rising sign, though her rising tends to hide emotions despite having a surplus of them. With all that being said, Eda is a
Sagittarius Sun, Scorpio Rising.
(Aries moon maybe, I dunno. Aries is somewhere in her chart. Maybe she’s an Aries Mars but I’m not going that deep 😂)
As a fellow Sagittarius, I relate to her a lot in terms of her description I wrote. Sagittarians tend to hide their emotions and insecurities under a facade of optimism and outgoing-ness. They don’t like to dwell on the negative and just want to have fun. They bounce around place to place in search of what fills them with life. Motivation. Knowledge. And with her rising, she can present herself as mysterious. There is a conflict in the show where she doesn’t really open up (aka. Raine.). And since rising signs symbolize the ‘you’ you show to others, this checks out.
Tumblr media
King
King!!!! I fucking love this guy. He’s funny. Deadpan kinda humor. So first impressions, he’s very extravagant and loves being the center of attention. He loves control and likes to feel as if he is a leader in all situations. He can be very egotistical. And he definitely has tendencies of pushing people under the bus in order to gain for himself. He has a dark sense of humor and can be violent. There’s a lot under that “me me me” surface though. He can be very dedicated and passionate. He hides his emotions, much like Eda. He doesn’t like the fact that a lot of his past is unknown. He doesn’t like not being in the know. A lot of his character is secretive, not necessarily by choice. That being said, the lovely King is a:
Scorpio Sun, Leo Rising.
(Apparently Sagittarius and Virgo were high up in the rankings for him, so that can be taken into consideration for his moon. Virgo moon maybe. Sagittarius doesn’t really fit his vibe??)
I know a lot of people might see him as a Leo sun, but I think Leo Rising fits him more since that’s what he portrays to others. Think of rising signs as your “outer” self and your sun sign as your “inner” self. That’s very vague and it all depends on your chart as a whole but that makes it a little easier to understand, at least for me. As we get to know King, there is a deep vast of emotions under the surface of his confident and cocky exterior. I think these placements fit him well.
Tumblr media
Hooty
Okay. Hm. Love to hate him. Hate to love him. Just as you’re starting to like him, he just- pulls a Hooty. He’s good natured at heart. All he wants is everyone in his life to get along and love each other. And he will stop at nothing to help solve any conflict. It’s almost as if he wants to feel wanted. He’s got a maternal vibe to him too. He is also very emotional, and it annoys me when he goes all “woe is me”. But that’s Hooty. He craves to be accepted just as he accepts everyone else. He cares deeply for his family. So Hooty is a:
Libra Sun, Cancer Rising.
(Virgo moon maybe. Virgo was high up there. Virgo something.)
These placements just make sense with who he is. I personally don’t like cancers for the sole reason that they act like hooty at their worst (and I’ve only met Cancers who were at their worst sadly.) But he’s also so warm hearted and loves to care for others. Libra’s want everything to be equal and for everything to be harmonious. And that’s exactly what Hooty strives for.
Tumblr media
Amity Blight
One of the best character development I’ve seen with this one, so far at least I don’t watch a lot of new media. But no, I love her. I’m sure we all do. She’s very cool. At first glance, she is very passionate about her status and goals. She works very hard to keep up the appearance of power and control. She wants to come off as put together. Everything has to go perfectly for her. And it seemingly is, but that’s only a mask. Under all of that is a girl who is overwhelmed with the pressure to be perfect. The pressure of fitting her parent’s expectations, as well as her own. Expectations that are wildly unachievable at the rate she wants. She’s meticulous with her ways. But also shy and reserved. She is picky when it comes to people she opens up to. But when she deems a person worthy of her time, she is more than caring. She pushes herself too hard and she is way to hard on herself. She strives to be the best even if it takes away from her sanity. And with that being said, Amity is a:
Virgo Sun, Capricorn Rising.
(Potential Aquarius Moon because yes.)
If any of you have known a Capricorn, you can’t deny Amity acts like one. She can be rude at first. She is intimidating. She is THE best. She works hard and never stops. But she also is very pessimistic and judges herself hard. I don’t know how to describe it, you’d have to be close with a Capricorn to understand what I mean when I explain them. As for her sun, this is perfect. I don’t understand earth signs very much so I can’t truly describe them to you, but she’s a Virgo. For sure. It’s the vibe they give off.
Conclusion
And that’s that for the main-ish cast! If you’d like me to cover the supporting characters, such as Willow, Gus, Lilith, Raine, Hunter etc- let me know. I probably will. What did you think of my interpretations? I think I got pretty close! Of course, I might be off when their birthdays are ever released, but I like what I decided on. I love love love astrology and diving deep into their potential charts in accordance to how they are etc. I do this in my free time (aka. at 3am when I’m bored.) so I decided to share. I might do more for other shows! What are your sign(s)? Do you relate to any of these characters?
Anyways, I’m off. Thanks for reading. Ignore any typos I’ve missed. It’s 2am and I’m tired.
-Ambrose.

Title:The emperor future childs
Ship: idk
Notes:so this would be, after Hollow mind, an alternative in which Hunter stays in the Owl House . I have this radom ideea so...yeah enjoy!
after a suspiciously quiet week in which the emperor's guards did not make their appearance, Luz and Hunter were quite traumatized, none of them could sleep, so Luz had bags under her eyes bigger than Hunter had. Eda didn't know what to do with 2 traumatized children and Day of Unity was a week away. Knowing she couldnt call on Raine, her only hope was Lilith. All the while hooty and King were trying to get them out of their state but not with much success but all that changed into a sunny and slightly cloudy morning when Lilith burst into the house.
"Sorry for being late i tried to get here as fast as i c-" lilith stops looking at Luz and Hunter looking at her, looking completely deplorable Lilith continued
"Golden Guard"
Hunter gave her a completely disgusted look, and said
"Lilith"
There was such a heavy tension in the air that you could cut it with the knife. Luz, seeing that they were in close contact, menacingly, Luz got up and placed herself between them in a subtle way, taking Lilith in her arms.
"What does cool Aunt Lilith bring you here?*
unfortunately not so good news * hug her back* just then Hotty burst in and said
"Hugs? I WANT IT TOO! now that you're here we can do a ton of funny stuff again"
but just then Eda's voice was heard saying
"Hotty! lilith isn't here for stupid stuff she's here to help us plan for Unity Day!"
Luz, hearing this, frees Lilith from the grip of her hugs and simply jumps for excitement and says
"WE CAN HELP US TOO! HUNTER KNOWS EVERY CORNER IN THE CASTLE!
Me too! * lilith screme *
Eda look at them after at Lilith and say with a nervous laugh
"Neah these are for tired adults like us you can go get some snacks from night market and relax a little "
Hunter stood up and snorted nervously
It's ridiculous! you need me for a good sync!
yes we are not going anywhere!
Eda exasperated says: Luz um can we vb little? it's about .... plan! Yes this is it
"sure! I have many ideas"
* Eda pulls Luz into a corner of the room * Look, you have to go out and get some food, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY GO OUT.
"Eda but-"
"do you know what you need?"
"a plan to defeat Belos?" optimistic Luz said
"Relaxation kido Relaxation Plus If LILITH and Hunter stay in the same room for a long time, it will be bad"
"I know but -"
"NO BUTS, you'll be out and enjoy this serene, sunny day, okay?"
"ok .... can you handle this for sure?" * ask luz praying hoping not *
Eda said confidently
"of course leave that to us*
"good then" * said Luz a little disappointed *
"ok let's go on an adventure!"
"Yes, that's the spirit!" * said Eda excitedly *
"we'll just go buy more food NOTHING MORE" * Hunter said already irritated *
"PLEASANT FUN" *shouts Hotty *
"WE ARE NOT GOING IN AN ADVENTURE" * Hunter already screams nervously *
"come on it's going to be fun!"
"YES, WHAT CAN BE MORE FUN THAN WE BUY FOOD!" * Hunter said wryly *
"Doesn't your sarcasm irritate you?" * said Luz, already annoyed *
'Doesn't your optimism irritate you?"
* before Luz can answer Hunter's pocket a small red bird comes out *
Ohhh hey little * luz stretches out her hand to caress him *
Don't touch it! he's been through a lot these days
Sorry...
* the whole road was very quiet until they reached the night market. As fascinated as Luz was, Hunter had taken care of most of it. *
ok i think that was all, come on Luz, Luz? LUZ! * he had started running there * ughhh they will kill me if i lose her! * said to himself. just then he sees Luz at a booth *
Here you are! * said with a sigh of relief *
Oh hi Hunter!
Come on, we have to go
already? but He really wanted to show me the future! * said the excited luz*
He? Hunter asked puzzled.
* just then a strange hood with skeletal hands rises from the darkness of the curtain. His face couldn't be seen, but he clearly look like a bad guy *
we uh ... we have to go NOW I'm sorry for - * but the guy is talking *
So you want to see your future?
No, we won't, come on, Luz
Yes we want!
Okay then * that guy casts a spell on them and they disappear. "
* Luz wakes up on the beach. That beach didn't look like the Boiling Islands, but something on earth, but he had seen the hand of the Titan and woke up to reality. He had begun to remember everything that had happened, so he began to shout at Hunter. They find themselves at one point more colliding. Hunter and Luz fall on the sand where Hunter exasperates ask*
where did you bring us AGAIN ?!
Future! said the luz full of enthusiasm
and hunter looks at her angry
hey don't look at me like that! I said we were going on an adventure, if you don't believe it, it's not my fault!
Incredible! simply incredible! * Hunter gets up nervously *
Luz stood up and said,
In my defense, I wanted to see if I could marry Amity in the future.
You with your stupid LOVE problems!
I even know what love is like! * Luz had already said nervously *
AND DO YOU THINK I DON'T KNOW? * Hunter already asked very nervously *
I don't know if you've ever had a girlfriend? No so shut up
I don't even need it!
You know what? This is ridiculus ! we have to come back and listen to me this time
Luz nodded

Sleepover (Inspired Oneshot)
When Luz had first asked her to sleepover, Amity had declined, saying her parents would never allow it. But later that day Amity had come back with a flushed face, asking if the offer was still available. Luz’s face lit up as it often did in excitement, and she pulled the fellow witch into a tight hug.
Luz didn’t even ask why or how Amity changed her mind, she was so happy to be able to hang out with the girl she didn’t care. Unbeknownst to her, Edric and Emira had found out and covered for their dear baby sister to go “Hang out” with her new “Friend”.
The rest of the school day wasn’t too eventful, Amity forced herself to focus on her assignments so she didn’t have to think about how hard it would be to stay calm in the presence of her crush. Luz however, was openly very excited, telling Willow and Gus about all her plans for the evening, allowed time for a mini Azura book club, some board games she had taken from the weekly human trash day, and a lineup of hilarious videos she picked out just for Amity.
“The last time and only time I ever really had a sleepover was the night of the moonlight conjuring! and I mean obviously that was fun, but it wasn’t as much of a sleepover as I expected.” Luz went on, crossing her arms loosely and smiling.
“Yeah, too bad we couldn’t come tonight…” Willow muttered, feigning disappointment. “All that sounds super fun too.” She likely could have came, but when she had heard Amity was able to go, she decided maybe the green haired WItchling and the clueless human could benefit from spending the time alone. Since Grom, hearing about their dance, and how Amity had acted since, she had guessed they liked each other.
“Aww, Willow…” Luz said with a smile, “...don’t worry, We will have a full owl house gang sleepover soon. I just gotta find out when Eda would be okay with it again.” She turned her attention back up to the teacher, while Willow turned back to Gus with a wink.
The poor illusionist was down, accepting of Willow’s plan, but still saddened he wouldn’t get to learn more about humans. Willow felt bad for making him miss out, but she couldn’t watch her two friends continue to dance around each other like they had been doing without losing her own mind. She offered the younger boy a comforting pat on the back.
The minute the bell rang, Luz was off, spinning around while running to wave goodbye to her friends, bumping into another student, then disappearing out the door and down the hallway. Willow just rolled her eyes with a smile.
Amity had debated on whether to wait for Luz, or to go home to pack a quick set of clothes for the next day. While debating however, Luz came bolting out the front doors of Hexside and skidded to a stop at her side, startling her into dropping one of her books.
“Oh gosh, sorry Amity!” The human apologized, quickly picking up and dusting off the book. “I didn’t mean to scare you. I’m just excited.”
Amity blushed, offering a small smile. “m-me too.” She took the book back, breathing deeply to calm herself. “I’ll have to just meet you back at the Owl House in a bit, I need to go home for a minute first.” SHe looked back up, concerned. “If that’s okay? Do humans have any rules about that?”
“not really?” Luz shrugged. “I can walk you that way, if you want. At least for a little. I know it’s probably not the best idea to get too close, in case your parents see you with me.”
“yeah…I think it would be better if I just walked alone.” the witch said sadly. “I’m sorry I have to kinda hide our friendship… at least, yknow, from them.”
Luz just smiled, making Amity’s heart speed up. “Don’t worry about it. I know you just want to make sure we get to stay friends. I’ll see you soon?” Luz turned just a bit, toward the Owl house.
“y-yeah.” Amity stuttered, mentally kicking herself for not being able to speak normally. “It shouldn’t be more than an hour.”
“Coolio!” she said with pep, starting to walk away, offering a cute little wave as she went. Amity watched for a moment before turning, covering part of her face with one of her hands in embarrassment.
“This is gonna be rough…” She murmured, as she started her walk home. Thankfully, she arrived quickly and escaped with only a tad of sibling teasing, shutting a door in their face as mild punishment. The walk to the Owl House was quiet and Amity was grateful, taking the time to psych herself up and calm herself down.
She emerged from some trees and there it was, hooty visible and poking at the ground for some reason that Amity didn’t really care to ask about. She walked up calmly, Hooty perking up.
“Amity! HOOT!”
“I’m here to see Luz, Bird tube.” she said flatly, getting uncomfortable even just looking at him.
“Aye aye! hooty hoot!” he opened the door, and she walked through, grateful to be done with him till the next morning. She turned to see Luz on the couch with King, drawing something with her tongue sticking out in concentration. Immediately her only thought was how cute it was.
Luz didn’t notice her for another second, looking up and brightening up again, leaving the art to walk over and pull her once again, into a hug. She wondered if she would ever get used to Luz’s touchy nature. She never minded, but the heat that rose in her face every time was something she hoped would fade.
The human pulled back, keeping her arms on her shoulders. “The walk okay? I mean- sorry, uh… that sounded weird. I meant like, the trip over here, walking…” She flushed, laughing at herself nervously. “...Nevermind it was a stupid question.”
“Its okay…” Amity chuckled back, smiling. “...what’s the plan?”
“I am SOOO glad you asked!” Luz answered, sweeping to the side it a goofily grande gesture. “Upstairs, we shall begin tonight’s activity’s!”
Amity laughed again, walking towards the stairs with Luz following close behind. “I just remembered I never came up here last time I was here... “
“Oh it’s nothing super secret or interesting. Me and Eda’s rooms are up here, and further up is just kinda... “ She stepped ahead, waving her hands. “...Magicaaaaal storage!”
Luz over took her on the stairs, silently leading her towards the balcony, where a handful of board games sat out, ready to be played. Amity tilted her head, and Luz turned to gesture at them.
“Some of the pieces are missing, so I improvised, but they're still playable. I even made a tiny Azura and Hecate, if you want to play one of them!” Luz looked excitedly back to meet Amity’s eyes, waiting silently for a response.
Again, the witch found herself flushing red. Did Luz mean to be this cute all the time? Of course not, she was just a stupid adorable human, Not aware of her effects on the poor green haired girl. “Thats really… sweet, Luz,” She managed after a minute. “ I’d love to learn how to even play. Is it complicated?” she glanced at the busy looking board.
“Oh no, it just looks that way. Here come sit, I’ll explain the basics and then anything I miss I’ll explain as we go.” She plopped down on the opposite side of the board from where Amity stood, waiting for her to sit.
A few hours later, they had managed to play two of the board games a couple times, and Amity had even won! though, she couldn’t be sure if Luz went easy on her that round to let her win. Which, either way, made her feel great. Her nervousness had faded, and while they played they discussed Azura. After a 7th or 8th round, Luz led her back by her hand to her bedroom, showing off some of her stuff that Amity hadn’t cared to look at when she came here the day of Grom.
They then ended up side by side leaning against the trunk holding Luz’s clothes, watching stupid videos that made the little witch laugh until she was crying, Luz smiling goofily everytime she did. It made her so happy to see the girl laughing and smiling and crying happily to stupid videos. A familiar gut feeling emerged after AMity doubled over laughing at a child running into a door, But the the human immediately pushed it down. Amity sat back up chuckling and the two met eyes, turning away collectively with blushes on their faces.
Luz was the first to speak, scooting forward and standing up. "It's getting a little late, give me a sec and I'll go get you a pillow and blanket." She walked out of the room, and Amity looked around the room again, trying to distract herself. She saw Luz's notebook for spells, the one she had during the Convention when they officially met. Next to it were prepped sticker spells like the one she used at Grom. A few Azura books layed lazily on top of each other not too far from that.
Luz came back in, plopping a soft looking blanket and a pillow down right next to her own sleeping mat. Amity almost asked why they were so close, but just watched Luz arrange it loosely into a decent sleeping place before plopping down and smiling.
The witch got up to take the few steps, pausing for a second and making a decision she wasn't even really sure about. But they were both tired. Maybe the memory would fade. She took a breath and looked away as she crouched, on her way to laying down. "Hey, Luz…"
"Yeah?" She replied, finally laid down and facing Amity.
"Have you ever thought about kissing a girl?" Her voice went a bit quieter, as if she was afraid of saying it for anyone to hear. She layed down, mirroring Luz's position and meeting her eyes.
The human girl froze, and for one of the first times ever, Amity saw her tanned skin flush into a full reddish blush. The pause made her nervous, waiting for Luz to answer, her mind racing silently through what she could say.
After another moment she smiled goofily but with a hint of nervousness to it. "Well, I am now." She breathed out a bit heavier than usual, almost a Huff of laughter.
Amity was quick to feel her face heat up. Of all her split second expected answers, that was not one of them. Oh god-
"Amity?" Her friend said, worried. She scooted closer, taking Amity's hands and looking concerned. "Are you okay?"
Her brain scrambled to find an excuse for her face, chuckling a bit as she did. "What, me? I'm fine! It was a dumb question-" it was fast. Luz was so close she felt like she was malfunctioning. That this nervous energy would consume her, maybe even kill her. This girl is gonna kill her by being this close. Another split second after that she felt she had to defend the fact she asked the question, and went off. "I mean- who likes y- girls, d-definitely not Amity Bligh-"
Luz had listened, a mixture of worried and confused, but feeling the same feeling in her gut from before. Is that what she was feeling? She wanted to kiss Amity? The rambling could go on, or she could… she didn't think much about it, grabbing Amity's face gently but firmly, and planting a kiss on her lips. For just a moment she stayed, then moved back, Amity freezing up.
Somehow her face managed to get redder, and Luz laughed at how cute it was. "Was that okay?" The witch continued to struggle to form a word, sputtering and freezing, blinking quickly while looking back at her. "Amity?"
Her heartbeat had never been more audible, and her brain was officially fried. Luz had kissed her. Her first kiss was with Luz. She was asking if it was okay. Form words, say yes, say something. But she just sputtered, and after a moment more she groaned, covering her face and shrinking up to try and hide her embarassment. This girl-
"I'm… I shouldn't have, Amity, I'm sorry… I just thought- and feelings-" Luz muttered out, trying to justify it, or make Amity feel better. Did she just screw everything up?
Amity shook her head, peeking and then moving quickly to pull the stupid human closer, hiding her face in her chest instead of her own hands. It was sort of relieving to know that her heart wasn't the only one beating fast, and she finally managed to speak. "N-no don't… I just- I really… uhm…" she breathed in and out one more time.
"I-i liked it…"

The Owl House: Enchanting Grom Fright: Happy Valentine’s Gays
Tumblr media
Happy Valentine’s Day owl ladies, gentleman and non-binary folks! It’s time to finish off this holiday in proper style with a LONG overdue review of enchanting Grom Fright and even longer overdue coverage of the Owl House.  The Owl House was one of the best debuts of last year if not THE best, only in contention because Close Enough also started last year and looks to surpass regular show in terms of quality. But with stunning animation, tons of representation, and colossal worldbuilding. And given how i’m on record for thinking Star Vs went so far down the tubes they bumped into where Cthulu is sleeping, it’s nice to have another magic based show that seems to be on the right track: carefully building i’ts world, supporting cast and for today’s topic main romance. It also rather than just obliquely hint one character was bi and the other pan, actually goes out of it’s way to have a bisexual protaginst with a gay love intrest. As my good friend @jess-the-vampire has brought up quite a bit, star had plnety of options. .but no willingness to actually campaign for any queer rep, the way Gravity Falls head Alex Hirsch tried to, he still gets credit for trying, and Owl House creator Dana Terrace gets full credit for.
Terrace got her start working on Gravity Falls in line production before working her way up to directing for ducktales, being instrumental in how Webby was animated and how she moves and acts, and being the director for several classic season one episodes including “Woo-Hoo!”, “The Spear of Selene” , “Day of the Only Child!” which was one of my faviorites from season 1 and “The Beagle Birthday Massacre!”. And while I can’t 100% confirm she’s the only part responsible for starting Weblena, given she was director on an episode where a lot of the romantic subtext was in the visuals, she certainly helped so thank you Dana. Thank you a lot. Their adorable. Point is she’s a talented lady and wasn’t satisfied with directing, so she pitched her own show, combining tons of ides and stuff including of all things, Pokemon Red. I checked the article wikipedia had sourced, it was one of her happy childhood memories as it was one of the last things her dad gave her. Awwwwwww. That’s as sweet as it is painful. She’s also currently dating Alex Hirsch, something I was entirely unaware of but find also adorable. Point is i’m glad I looked into her as she’s a very nice person, and very much my kind of weirdo and i’m happy for her sucess and her singuarly weird show that sprung from that sucess.
Now that part of it’s out of the way the episode itself was an uphill battle as you’d expect. As anyone familiar with this blog is aware, but just in case your new, you tend to hear me bitching about Disney’s handling of queer represntation a LOT
Tumblr media
For the most part Disney’s pretty bad at it: There was the string of “FIRST GAY CHARACTER IN AN X” they had going for a while.. that consisted of a character I dind’t realize was gay, a kiss I didn’t see, and a talk with a character who I honestly wouldn’t of been looking for had disney not patted themselves on the back with some giant sized hands because htey saved some pym particles for that occasion. Ducktales was unable to have Penumbra come out as gay more clearly because I don’t know Ducks can’t be day.. but they can be IMPLIED to be gay or pansexual as hard as the crew possibly can so they win anyway. Pixar was able to have a gay lead character for one of it’s sparks shorts out and even focused on him coming out of the closet and it’s very good and something I WILL give Pixar credit for... but not Disney Plus who go out of their way to not mention the lead being gay.. despite the fact the short opens with a gay space cat riding a gay space dog out of a rainbow and then it being revaled our lead is in a relationship not long into the short. My point is the idiots who won’t watch this for having gay characters are just going to turn it off, who cares what they think, why are you like this Disney. They need to do better, and be better and i’m getting tired of this shit.
That being said... this episode is a step in the right directoin as despite having to get past one obstructive asshole, not her words but damn if it isn’t the truth, as the rest of hte execs were fine with having a gay character, Terrace fought hard for it and WON, having a clearly gay character, and a clear road to a gay romace as the lead one, all because she wanted some representation in her works. So to honor this, I present this review in honor of love, effort and saying screw you to not having represntation because money. Join me under the cut and allt hat.
Tumblr media
We open in the owl house, in the owl house, duck dodge push and shove, it’s how we show our love in the.. you get the point. Luz is learning yet another Rune, this time plant runes.. and already something I love about the series pops up: the fact Luz’s rise in skill is gradual but noticable. Each spell noticably improves in potency with time,  going from simple lights to shaping them into simple constructs, and learning to control or time her spells and glpyhs so they launch she she says so, with each one getting more powerful the more she learns. And on top of that osmething I just noticed on rewatch of this episode is her tecnique in finding them evolved, something I dind’t notice the first time because I hadn’t fully caught up and checked this one out to see if Disney would actually let them go through with it.. and they did. Point is her first spell is found by accident, her second by realizing how her magic works fundemntally, both require skilled deduction and on the fly thinking and casting, so she’s already pretty skilled.. but now sh’es ACTIVELY seeking out a new spell here for the first time. She knows how she gets them, she knows each school is tied to a form, and she likely got the plant from williow since that’s her thing and she’s a saint. A demon but also a saint. They can have those too. It’s what I assume relicor is.
Tumblr media
I miss that goblin demon bat man. Point is it shows an evolution in Luz’s thinking: while it’s a subtle thing she took a more proactive approach this time even if it took a lot of practice.. and it pay soff as by the time of her next rune, while it’s once again sorta handed to her she has less time to learn it, almost none, and finds it singed onto a ball.. and learns it effortlessly to the point where by the next episode it’s a crucial plot point. IT’s subtle but clever character progression, and stuff I really enjoy, showing our hero going from a bit inept but not helpless or incomptient.. to a force to be reckconed with and far more clever and strategic than yo’ud expect given her sometimes reckless and almost always happy go lucky attitude.
Tumblr media
Luz worries teaching King about the internet was a bad idea because he gets excited about a literal cat fight which .. yeah... it was a bad idea but not because of that.. but because next he finds someone saying the earth is flat and she wisely yanks it away. It’s.. very sad that the absolutley maddening and easily debunked flat earth theory is still RELATIVLEY more sane than the stuff we’ve had pop up during the trump era and the cornoavirus pandemic.
But one of the main conlficts of the episode pops up as Luz’s mom messages her and Luz can’t bring herself to tell her anything and just sends a thumbs up.  I do think this episode helps even things from the pilot a bit as it was a bit lopsided: While I got that Camillia was genuinely struggling with how to deal with Luz, and was offered an out and had to take it... the fact she sees NO problem with the normalcy camp, which comes off intentioanlly or not a sa parallel to conversion camps or camps to make autistic kids “Normal”. And as someone whose both bisexual and autistic, I naturally relate to luz way more as someone whose intrests sometimes just don’t quite fit with everyone else, and who dosen’t get how bad some of their actions were.  THat’s why this episode feels like a necessary course correction: Luz is shown to genuinely love her mama and feel guilty.. but we see camilia genuinlely loves and supports her daughter a bit more. While it was clear from the pilot this shows it more, with her genuinely just wanting to know her daughter’s okay and checking up on her, and giving me the feeling that possible consequences or no if something bad WAS happening or she didn’t hear from her for a long time, she would’ve drove up there to get her. It feels like the writers realized the implications they accidently created and wanted to fix it, though I can’t say for certain. But if so good on you for course correcting, not every show does that.
But King encourages her, telling her she’s doing the right thing by lying and to “trust the demon on your shoulder”. Keep this in mind for later, but that joke is great on it’s own. But soon i’ts time for school and Hooty.. barfs out Luz’s books for her.
Tumblr media
I haven’t been this disturbed since.. (Looks at the clock) About 2 maybe three hours ago when I watched a man have, if apparently shorter than the oriiginal cut as I wanted to see everyone else’s reactions dammit, sex with hiis car which was possesed by the mad ghost of his dead wife. Because that’s the kind of stuff i’m into when i’m not reviewing stuff. And before that Tinky.. just everything about tinky.
Tumblr media
I do not have enough time to get into TInky here or why he exestially horrifies me. Or why Jeff blim is a living god. I will save that for a proper review if I have the time tomorrow. Point is I saw a lot today and that still tops it. Willow and Gus are likewise grossed out and want to leave.
Cut to school where Luz wonders what’s with all the decorations.. that remind me of this honestly
Tumblr media
And frankly given the whole state of the boiling isles it REALLY wouldn’t surprise me if the decorations were indeed well cooked faces. But i’ts Grom time, which means elaborate gromposals (Some Dude asks Skara out with a beating heart and an elaborate medical proposal.. which.. points for effort. And for using an actual heart. Couldn’t get one for mine. ), dancing and someone being chosen for Grom Queen. WHich Willow hints isn’t as nice as that sounds. Before we can get into that though Amity bumps into them and gets into a tizzy before meekly greeting “Luz.. and Co”. which.. not going to lie.. is my faviorite gag of the season. Just htw way she adds them and just the way Willow and Guz both smile widely at it as if to say “That’s us!”. Amity drops a note and snatches it back. This will be important later, you all know why, point is Amity becomes Grom Queen.. and is heavily depressed with Luz following her to find out why.  At the gym.. she does indeed ifnd out why: Turns out Grom is not some mutation of an earthname but is based around a horrifying entity lurking beneath the isles, Gromethious the Fear Bringer, who emerges from his slumber once a year and must be fought back and brings out his target’s greatest fears. Just like groundhog day only with less time loops and rodent abuse. Amity is scared of hers, and i’ll obviously get into this more later, and Luz simply suggests asking bump to opt out and Amity appricates the support. Awwww.
Luz heads home and we find out Eda is chaperoning and King is mcing. Eda is also rocking a suit. Just damn girl, damn. But Luz considers taking her place.. and gets laughed at, with Eda assuming she’ll have to save her and King just being kind of a dick. I mean he’s a loveable thoroughly cuddly dick but he’s still a dick... just more like a stuffed plushie of one.  So basically exactly like Tinky. Look I mention him more than once in this review he dosen’t put me in the bastard box. It’s a great system.  Naturally this makes Luz more determined than ever to prove herself and she finds Amity in the night, with Amity having been unable to get out of it.. and Bumps a resonable guy, he just wants a substitute and no one wants the job.. except Luz who galdly volunteers and insists ntohing scares her before the giant spider on the back of her head proves otherwise. Because of course it does, spiders are fucking terrifying. Kill then all.. except the pokemon ones. Galvaltula are sweethearts. As are Ariadoses. Sweethearts who can elctorcute or poison you but still.
So the next way Luz begins preparing.. and by that I mean it’s time for training. Sadly we don’t get an episode of Luz and Amity getting trapped in an 80′s fashion montage... I mean yes Rise of the TMNT also did that plot the same year, but we had two diffrent plots about someone getting trapped in an eldtrich sitcom and a THIRD this year, all entertaingly unique. Though we do get Luz pulling out an otter suit that’s adorable and she sadly still hasn’t worn yet. “This one says i’m an otter, with a dark side”. She also got thrown out of a school dance for.. wearing an otter suit. Okay the other things we saw in the pilot were understandable but htis is just.. baffling. Who cares what you wear to a dance as long as it isn’t horribly racist of nothing at all.
Tumblr media
Damn you flanders and your glorious ass. Point is Amity shows up and threatens hooty’s life because.. he’s hooty. The fact he isn’t dead already is a testiment to how badass he is and how much money he’d cost Eda to replace. Owl Tubes don’t come out of a stygian hole in the unvierse every day you know. That’s only every three years. It’s basic styigan owl tube science.
But Amity wants her to be ready and that she’ll have to face her greatest fear.. and cue hooty popping up, poking amity in the face and asking if she wants to know her greatest fear. Really he can clearly hear everything in the house given he heard that, so he heard the death threat he just chose to ignore it. That.. was a mistake. And by mistake I mean we get a hilarious cut to the outside of the house as Luz tries to stop her love intrest from murdering her second mom’s tube monster. The result is some bandages and an eyepatch. To be fair that last one was just flaring up from a  previous beating.
Tumblr media
For this solem task of training, Amity has brought in her local disaster bisexuals.. aka her twin siblgins Eldric and Elmyra, whose greatest fears are dying alone and being stuck with Eldric. Both understandable. They conjur luz’s greatest fears which are.. some of the funniest shit I heard all year.. and also very relatable. Human souls in cat bodies, which is genuinely terrifying good job Luz, Jerks on the internet who mansplain things, relatable, and soy milk.
Tumblr media
But Amity knows this is just the openign act. it needs to be something deeper.. so while Luz dosen’t realize it’s probably her mom issues she brings up her issues with her other mom: that Eda dosen’t think she can do this. Hence we get a giant eda putting Luz in a babychair. Before we can unpack how wrong that sentence sounded, Eda comes out, and marvels at how hot giant her is. But she’s quickly distracted from sex with a giant version of herself, which is not an easy feat, by the relization “Wait Luz is going to fight grom isn’t she.. fuck i’m going to have to save her”, though Luz holds firm on doing it to prove she’s fine and dosen’t need to be saved constantly. it’s a good conflict. Eda IS right that Luz is not ready for this alone, that she’s overcompensating and that Eda would, in normal circumstances be the one to rescue her. As we’ll see it’s not her who does it but still, were this any other foe she probably would be. But Luz’s motivations are equally understandable: She wants to help her friend not have to do this and she wants to prove she can do it. She just wants her mentor, the only person in her life up to meeting her that GNEUINELY supported her in magic to respect her. To have faith in her and actually see how far she’s come. And given how her own mother writes off her dreams, if not unrealistically, and before this she had no friends or support system to speak of outside her mom, it’s easy to see why this is so improtant to Luz: she just wants to make the one person in her life whose ever support her actually think it was worth it when in truth Eda already thinks it does and just dosen’t want her to die.
She’s just not good with talking to her or not condescending to her as her own ego is stacked sky high, probably because the whole curse thing meant Eda was an outcast by default and the system wants to either chain her to one form of magic and one only or shackle her to them as a hired goon. Her ego, while justified, is also a defense mechanism: a way to shield herself from the fact almost no one cares about her and one of the few people who DOES, dosen’t care what she wants or needs. Once the curse happened she lost just about everything and had to rebuild and thus build up walls around herself and kept everyone else at arms length till Luz changed her for the better. It’s just a tragic clash of two wills both with similar problems but both unwilling to talk about them.
But with time up, our heroes need to get to the diggity dance. So they indeed do and we get some fun sight gags, Willow makes corsages,  that one girl with the cresent head somehow ended up with Mathomule and is not happy, as anyone who ends up with him should. And it’s time for Luz to face her destiny.. in a tux with a tutu because of course, and Amity likes it because also of course.
IT’s time to rumble, with King getting nervous due to eda’s prodding about mcing since his co-mc gus is really good at it, and introducing our champion.
Tumblr media
No wait sorry he’s still trapped in Mojoworld. no it’s still Luz who shows off a seasons worth of skill by easily dispatching the first few fears and saying to grom let’s finish it.. before grom puts a tentacle on her head.
Tumblr media
It’s to downlaod her fear.. which is Camillia. Granted we could all see it coming but still Luz obviously can’t fight her own mother or her own overwhelming guilt.. her mom did hurt her.. but she gets why and just loves her and wants her to be proud but dosen’t know what to do: tell her the trutha nd possibly loose a happy and fufilling life or wait until it all blows up. It’s a painful choice. So luz and king end up running. King runs first because he can’t handle it and Gus talks him back into the groove while Luz runs away because she can’t fight her own mom, understandable, and Gus encourages king to lead the crowd which he does. Amity and Eda follow Luz.
So Luz is backed down, facing down a monster tha’ts going to go on to everyone else next if she fails... and Eda prepares to interfere.. but it’s AMITY who faces her fear and dives in. And we find out just what her fear was as grom turns into a humanoid shape and rips the letter in half.. it was a grom invitation. Though conviently the who it’s adressed to was ripped out.
And yeah not going to save this one: It’s Luz. You know it I know it I didn’t even hide it in the intro. Even before the reveal in a bit it was obvious. But it also makes perfect sense. I’ve avoided talking about her character arc up to this point because I was waiting for now. Amity’s growth is the third major arc of the season behind Luz’s slow learning of magic and eventually induction into hexside and eda’s curse, which I lump in with Lilith chasing her since both were mildly entertwined and then entirely are once the reveal hits in the finale. When we meet her she’s an outright bully.. but we slowly see there’s more there. That she’s not really HAPPY or content, is contstantly under pressure by her family name, is outright bullied by her own siblings who don’t understand her. So Luz coming in, seemingly only being intrested in magic because i’ts neat.. understandably bothers her. She’s not a great person, bullying her old best friend because tha’ts what’s expected and being close with outright bullies because of that.. but it’s through Luz she starts to grow, realizing Luz is genuinely nice and genuinely sorry for any trouble she caused Amity, and evne then both cases were causaed by Amity’s own dickishness and outside forces, so it’s easy to see why she defrosts faster. Her siblings realize they’ve genuinely hurt her, and actually try to be good siblings from then on and help her, and slowly Amity learns to truth luz, trust in her, and accept her... and thus accept her feelings for her. There are gradual hints she’s growing attracted to her.. but her walls had to come down first, and it wouldn’t of worked from the outset. The show cleverly has the two build a genuine friendship, two opposities who work well together, so when feelings do happen it feels natural. It’s not “I’m in love with this person because I have to because you can’t be friends with someone your attracted to” bullshit or anything like that, cough star vs cough, it’s just well built catching feelings. I’ts how this kind of thing SHOULD go: niether went in intending for this to happen.. it’s just happening.
And Amity’s reluctance is painfully understandable, as Luz is the ONLY friend and support she has. Sure she and willow are patching things up, but WIllow would understandably choose luz over her and she’s terrified of loosing the one good thing in her life. Of course Luz would either say yes, and probably will some day, or let her down gently, she’s nice.. but it’s also understandable to be afraid that someone won’t take the reveal well. I’ve been there trust me, it’s easier when you let it out even if you get rejected, but I get it being hard to let out because you don’t want to loose a friend. I did not, and niether would she, but I can see why she wouldn’t want ot take the plunge. At least not yet. We’ll see this summer hopefully.
But we do get a shiptastic, gorgeously aniamted scene of the two dancing an fightin gin perfect synch, combinging luz’s new use of plant magic with amity’s mastery of abominations resulting in the two utterly decimating grom, likely in part because with two fast moving targets he can’t get a lock on and likely nees more fear and mass to attack multiple targets at once. Or just more tendrils. it’s a quick, beautful sequence that’s utterly glorious, being framed as romantic as any hetero scene of the type and rightfully so. A triumph and well deserving of this praise.
Our heros have won, get crowns, and King gets praise. All is well.. except Luz drops the crown once she gets home because she feels like she failed and feels lost about her mom.. though at least king gets it “I’m king and queen, best of both things!”. You tell em sister.
So we end with Luz genuinely responding to her mom, with some montage stuff as we see Gus and Willow poke a fear blob, willow fears bugs, understandable and Gus fears clowns...
Tumblr media
Also understandable. Though I didn’t put up a bug picture because
Tumblr media
And Amity looks out folornly into the night. Camilla responds to Luz.. and mentions letters.. which while Luz brushes those off.. we see someone sent them. And by someone I probably mean king since we now know only eda and him had acess to the portal, and given he was actively encouraging her to lie.. yeah i’m supscious. But we’ll see next season. For now this episode is fan fucking tastic, showing off tons of character development, being representative and sweet as all hell.. and being really funny. Tons of great gags in this one including the turtle guy from an earlier episode being forced to be adisco ball.  This is easily the series best so far and if you haven’t checked it out, please do it’s fantastic as is this show. Check both out. Until the next rainbow i’ts been a pleasure. Tommorow more disney shenanigans this time with pete. And also more of this possibly we’ll see what I get done.

Moonlit Masquerade: Turning Pages
Enjoy~
It was a warm, early summer day as Luz flew through the air back toward the owl house, grinning giddily to herself as the wind whipped through the long hair that laid over her undercut on the left side, her cloak flapping wildly behind her off her shoulders as the wind tugged at the short sleeves of her dark purple tunic.
She did a giddy spin and the leather pouches that held her glyphs and various other things flapped against the legs of her black pants.
The twenty-one-year-old zipped between the trees on her staff, she was so excited, she couldn't wait to show her mom and Lilith what she had bought today after packing up her stuff at the market.
"Luz, your home!" Hooty screeched the moment she burst through the tree line.
"Hey, Hooty." She smiled hopping off the staff with a flourish as he opened the door for her and she ran inside, dropping her satchel by the stairs.
"Mom, Lily!?" she called.
"In the kitchen!" Eda's voice called back.
She hurried into the kitchen where the two sisters were sitting at the table talking. It always surprised Luz at the wrinkles that had begun to line their faces over the last six years, though they both still looked great. Eda claimed hers were from Luz, and Lilith claimed hers were from Eda, which always made the young woman laugh, and Eda make a face.
Before she could think to say anything, Owlbrt was hooting at her from the counter.
"Hey buddy, you wanna play with Mochuelo?" She asked the small owl, who hooted wildly at her.
"Okay, okay, Owlbert, I know you missed your pal," she laughed.
She unscrewed the wooden tawny owl palisman from the top of her staff and set him on the counter next to a hooting Owlbert. Her palisman,  Mochuelo, gave himself a shake, fluffing his dark brown and white speckled feathers, golden-brown eyes blinking up at her.
She scratched both their heads and left the two to palisman play as she laid the empty staff against the counter.
"You're back early, already sell out all your potions in the market?" Eda cocked her head.
"Yup, not a thing left. I'll work on some more tomorrow, but forget about that, I have something to show you!" She stopped, looking around. "Is Amity here?"
"No, she hasn't come home yet, why?" Lilith cocked a brow at her and Luz grinned, digging something out of her pocket.
"This is why!" she exclaimed, pulling a small black box from her pocket.
"A box?" Eda asked. Luz rolled her eyes.
"No! Look!" She popped it open to reveal a bright gold ring inlaid with a deep, square-cut, magenta gemstone and two smaller, clear stones on either side of it.
The sisters both gasped.
"Luz is this…?" Lilith started.
"An engagement ring!?" Eda finished, looking up at Luz with wide eyes.
"Yup, I'm going to ask Amity to marry me," she declared proudly. "I mean, we've been living together for three years now and dating for six. I know there's no one else I want to be with."
"That's wonderful, Luz." Lilith stood and hugged her.
"Yeah, that's great!" Eda wrapped her up in a tight hug as soon as Lilith let go. Luz squeezed her back just as tight before finally pulling back. "Does this mean you two are finally moving out?" she asked with a grin as Luz blinked, wide-eyed.
"I mean… we can if you want us…" she started with a frown, but Eda just laughed.
"Naw, it'd be too quiet without you two. You two don't have to go anywhere unless you want to… and so long as you keep your bedroom door closed," she said seriously, making Luz chuckle.
How far they had come, from Eda being adamant that the bedroom door stay open when they were kids, to now demanding that it stay closed, lest she hear or see something she really didn't want to… again.
"Right, I'll talk to Amity about it later. I'm going to take her out to dinner tonight and pop the question." She grinned.
As if summoned by magic, the front door opened.
"I'm home!" A voice called from the living room.
Amity!
Luz shoved the box back into her pocket as her girlfriend of six years walked into the kitchen with a few bags in one hand and her staff in the other.
Her long auburn hair fell down against her back in a smooth curtain, except the longer sides she still kept pulled back, no longer in a ponytail, but in a neat braid that also fell against her neck.
Her white cloak was hanging from her neck and one shoulder to partially expose the sleeveless black shirt she wore beneath, tucked into her pants and the arm warmers that covered from her fingers to elbow in the customary dark pink of someone of the abominations track, and even after all this time, her nails were still painted black.
"Oh, Luz, you're home from the market already." She looked at her, surprised.
"Yup, sold out of everything pretty quick today, so I figured I'd come home. How was your day, mi amor?" She asked, leaning forward to give her a quick kiss.
"Busy, there's no shortage of problems that need straightening out since they finally put the new coven system in place," she sighed. "I'm exhausted…"
"You probably don't feel like going out tonight then, eh? She frowned.
"I don't think so..." She shook her head as she twisted the wooden dragon off her staff and let the long, golden lizard crawl up her shoulder to wrap his long, scaled body around her neck, beneath the curtain of auburn hair.
"Hey, Calliban." Luz smiled as Amity scratched under his chin. The dragon's long whiskers twitched happily, a puff of smoke coming from his nostrils, his long tufted tail twitched.
"Was there something you wanted to do tonight?" Amity looked down at her as she scratched the palisman.
"Uh… no. We can go out another night." Luz shook her head, she could see how tired Amity was, and it wasn't like she couldn't propose at any time.
Amity nodded and set her bags on the counter.
"If you're sure, I just want to lay down and never get back up," she mumbled.
"I'm sure that can be arranged, mi amor" Luz smiled, wrapping her arms around her waist and setting her chin on her shoulder, though only barely, the witch stood a good five inches taller than her. Amity smiled, leaning back into her.
"Just close the damn door…," Eda mumbled. Luz stuck her tongue out at her and Amity rolled her eyes.
Luz pulled her close, letting the taller woman relax against her for a few moments before she pulled free with a sigh.
"I need to go shower," she mumbled and carefully set Calliban on Luz's shoulders before kissing her cheek and walking out of the kitchen.
Luz hummed, petting his smooth scaly body, his tiny claws pricked at her skin as he settled himself around her neck. His horns poking her under the chin.
"Guess it's not gonna happen tonight?" Eda looked at her.
"No, but it's okay, there's no rush," Luz said and dug the box out of her pocket.
"Will you hang onto this for me? I'd hate for her to find it in our room and ruin the surprise," she asked, holding the box out to Lilith.
"Of course, Luz." She nodded, taking the ring and slipping it into the pocket of her dress.
"Hey, why not me?" Eda sat up, frowning.
"You lost King just yesterday…" Luz frowned.
"He found his way home eventually," she mumbled.
"I think I'd feel better if Lily held onto it. That's three weeks of potions sales I'd really rather not have to replace…"
Eda crossed her arms, pouting while Lilith gave her a smug look.
"I guess I'll just get started on brewing some stuff before dinner." She pulled off her cloak and laid it over a chair as she walked over to the counter, crowded with her and Eda's brewing stuff.
~
"So, you've been trying to propose for a week now?" Willow asked as she sat across from Luz in the Redstone bakery sipping on her tea.
Luz sighed, nodding.
"I just want it to be perfect but we've both been so busy, if I'm not out helping with the reconstruction or selling potions in the market, Amity is attending council meetings and helping sort out the kinks in the new coven system. We're exhausted half the time…I'm not even sure when the last time we had s-.."
"Stop! You're both very busy. I know what you mean..."
"TMI, sorry," Luz chuckled sheepishly.
But Willow just nodded.
"There's still a lot to do and a vacuum to fill since we did away with Belos, but you know, maybe you're trying too hard for the perfect moment?"
"Hmm?" Luz hummed, blinking at her oldest friend.
"We both know Amity doesn't really want the big over the top gestures, so long as you're you, she'd never said no."
"I know… I just wanted to make it special, ya know?
"I'm sure it will be, you'll find that 'Luz' way of doing it." She smiled and Luz snorted, the fact that her name had become some kind of verb her friends liked to use amused her.
"Yeah, I'll think of something… ya ready to head into town?" she asked. Willow nodded and they stood, leaving some snails on the table as they left.
They spent the rest of the day checking on things in Bonesburough.
It had been a year since Belos had been defeated and the old coven system and regime had been dismantled, and things were still being reconstructed in town where some of the heaviest fighting had taken place between the rebels and the loyalists.
Luz hummed as she walked along the streets with Willow, in some ways the town had changed a lot in the last year, but in others had remained just the same
Without the coven system that bonded people to only one type of magic, the covens looked totally different. They still existed, only now rather than only being able to perform one type of magic, people could do it all no matter what coven they were in, but many still choose to join the covens so they could work with other like-minded witches in the types of magic they specialized in. They were more brotherhood's than forced chains pulled by the Emperor, some people often belonging to more than one coven at a time. Luz herself, for her part in the rebellion, was welcome in all nine of the major coven houses, though she didn't actively participate in any of their politics or meetings.
She usually visited to get advice about certain spells from the more experienced witches of the discipline's. They were always glad to see her in their midsts.
The downside to it no longer being against the law to not join a coven was that crime had gone up some, with the less unsavory members of society now having access to all types of magic. The night market was still quite robust, especially during the rebellion when a host of unsavory things have been going on. Luz tried not to think about those days too much.
The new governing system, a council of the new nine coven leaders, was still getting to its feet in controlling stuff, so a lot of things flew under the radar as they dealt with the bigger, more pressing issues, like any remaining pockets of loyalists. It was a work in progress, one Luz was happy to help with when she could. She'd actually gotten pretty good at playing bounty hunter, though Amity didn't like it at all. She didn't go out of her way hunting down criminal witches, they just showed up a lot in the market when she happened to be there, and Luz had never been one to stand idly by.
Things seemed pretty quiet today.
As they walked past the library Luz took notice of a poster pasted to its wall and suddenly she had a brilliant idea.
"Hey, I think I know what I wanna do." She turned to Willow with a bright grin. “I’m gonna need your help.”
"Sure, that was quick…," she laughed and Luz shrugged.
"I just remembered something. I think Amity would appreciate it…" She smiled and Willow nodded. "You think Gus would be my best man?" she asked.
"He'd beg you… not that I won't pretend I'm not a little insulted that you don't want to ask me." She pouted, crossing her arms and making Luz laugh.
"Like Amity would want anyone but you to be her maid of honor." Luz grinned, making the plant witch smile. "Though you might have to fight Em for it," she warned.
"She can bring it on." Willow grinned, making Luz laugh.
~
"Hey, tonight's the night," Luz announced to the living room as she walked down the stairs.
"You're proposing tonight?" Eda looked up at her daughter's grinning face.
"Yup, I know exactly what I want to do and it has to be tonight. I gotta get some stuff ready, you've got the ring right?" she asked Lilith, who nodded.
"Of course."
"Great, I'm going to come back and get it from you in a little bit!" Luz said as she hurried out the front door, staff in one hand, and a dark green book in the other.
The door slammed and Eda shook her head, grinning.
"I can't believe she's really going to do it…," she chuckled. When there was no response she turned to her sister who was sitting on the other side of the couch, frowning, her fingers tapping nervously on her knees.
"What?" Eda cocked a brow at her.
"I...may have... misplaced Amity's ring…," she mumbled, biting her lip. There was a long moment of silence.
"Ha! Now, who's irresponsible?!" Eda laughed, jumping up with a grin.
"Are you serious right now?!" Lilith jumped up, scowling as Eda did that stupid 'moonwalk' dance Luz had taught them.
"I'm not the one who lost the kid’s engagement ring…," Eda sang smugly, dancing across the living room.
Lilith groaned.
"Yes, fine, I lost it, now help me find it before Luz comes back!" She stomped.
"And why would I do that?" Eda crossed her arms.
"Because she's your daughter, and she's going to be devastated that she can't propose because the ring was lost!" Lilith growled, and Eda frowned. Her sister had a point, as much as she liked getting one over on her older sister she wasn't going to do it at her kid's expense. She also knew what Luz sold her potions for, three weeks profit on one ring was nothing to sneeze at
"Alright, alright, where did you have it last?"
"It was sitting on my dresser last night, but when I woke up, it was gone." Lilith sighed, rubbing her temple.
"Well it can't have gotten too far then, let's check your room." The two hurried up the stairs.
They tear Lilith's room apart for over an hour searching for the ring and only find the box, sitting underneath the edge of her bed.
"It's not here!" Eda growls. Lilith sits on her bed, head in her hands.
"Luz and Amity are never going to speak to me again…," she moans.
"Yea…  not sure even Luz can forgive this one…," Eda mumbled and Lilith groaned louder.
"What's up witches?"
They look up at King, standing in the doorway.
"Lily lost Luz's engagement ring…," Eda sighed, hand on her hip.
"How irresponsible. She should have given it to me." He laid a clawed hand on his chest and there was a glint, drawing both sisters' eyes.
There, hanging on the tip of one of his claws was the ring.
Lilith and Eda tackled the small demon, who squealed as they jumped him, trying to wriggle out of their grasp.
"You took this from my room!" Lilith scowled, holding up the ring out of King's reach as he jumped up, trying to grab it.
"Oh, is that Luz's ring? I thought it was an offering." He crossed his arms.
Eda rolled her eyes and Lilith growled.
"Do you know how mad Luz will be if we tell her you stole her ring?" Eda looked down at him with a frown.
King hunched down at that, eyes turning fearful.
Then they heard the front door open downstairs.
"Guys?"
"Up here, kid," Eda called as Lilith quickly slipped the ring back into its box and closed it.
Luz poked her head in the room.
"Oh, what's everyone doing in here?"
They all glanced at each other.
"Nothing!"
"Uhuh… I don't believe that but I don't have time to question it. The ring?" she asked.
“Right here!” Lilith handed over the box.
"Great, thanks. Wish me luck!" She smiled before taking off back down the stairs. They all waited until they heard the door open and shut before sighing in relief.
~ ~
It was dark when Amity hopped off her staff outside the library. The tall building stood empty and dark, it was well after closing time after all.
She wasn't sure why Luz wanted her to meet her here, but she'd gotten pretty used to just rolling with her girlfriend's eccentric ways for the most part over the years. It was easier to not question it. She spun a finger and her staff vanished.
She walked up the steps heels clicking quietly on the stone as she looked around. The building had remained unchanged over the years, it had luckily been one of the few large buildings to be spared during the fighting, for which she was glad. She had many fond memories of the library, it was, for a long time, her only place of safety and solitude from her sometimes, over the top siblings, but more importantly, from her always overbearing and controlling mother, and then had been her and Luz’s secret place for the first some odd months of their relationship, until they had been allowed to be public about it.
The secret room in the romance section had all but been abandoned after her eighteenth birthday when she moved out of Blight Manor and into the owl house with Luz.
She stood at the top near the door, looking around. Now, where was her adorable doofus?
She felt the tingle of familiar magic pull at the back of her mind and turned in time to see Luz become visible, leaning against one of the library pillars as the glow of her palisman’s eyes faded, but her bright grin did not as she slipped the staff into the holster beneath her cloak.
“Buenas noches, mi amor. ¿Cómo estás esta noche?” She took a step forward to stand in front of her and Amity grinned back.
“Mejor, ahora que estás aquí, querida," She mumbled, taking hold of the collar of Luz’s cloak and pulling her in for a kiss, making Luz grin. “Now, are you going to tell me why we’re here?”  she asked, stepping back.
“I just felt like a walk down memory lane,” she shrugged, smiling. “Also considering what tonight is...”
“Tonight?” Amity blinked. Luz jerked her thumb at a poster on the wall and Amity’s eyes widened.
“The wailing star…” How long had it been since she’d thought about that? At least six years, since the time the twins had tried to take her diary as a kid.
“Come on, it’s about to start!” Luz walked over to the door, she flipped open one of her pouches and leafed through the many different papers before pulling out the one she wanted and pressed it to the library door. It dissolved in a flash of pale blue and the door made a quiet click and she pushed it open.
Amity smiled and followed her. When you considered all the trouble Luz could and had gotten into over the years, walking around the library at night wasn’t even worth the breath to protest, not that she really wanted to.
She closed the door behind her and as they walked into the main entry room of the library just as the large stained glass window above them lit up with the light of the passing star, the green glow settled over the books and Luz quickly grabbed a book off the shelf and opened it. Snakes slithered out, making her grin.
“I didn’t really get to enjoy this last time we were here during the wailing star... being too busy trying not to get killed by my favorite childhood book character and all," she chuckled and Luz grinned.
“Same,” she laughed as they moved up and down the aisles, picking up books. Luz saw a familiar book and grinned, pulling it off the shelf and whipping around to Amity.
“Hey, babe!”
Amity looked up just in time to be blasted in the face with a deluge of snowballs.
“You are so dead!” She yelled at her girlfriend’s back as she took off down the aisles, half screaming, half laughing as Amity gave chase, snatching her own copy of ‘A History of Snowballs’ off the shelf.
They chased each other around the bookshelves for a while before finally calling a truce.
Luz giggled as she closed the book and the remnants of snow vanished from Amity’s hair.
“Come on, I know somewhere we haven’t been in a while…” she slid her book back on the shelf.
“I have a pretty good idea of where we’re going.” Amity smiled, walking beside her to the romance section of the library.
“Maybe…” She smiled.
Amity chuckled as they stopped in the romance section and she reached up to pull at a familiar book.
The bookcase slid aside to reveal what once had been such an important place to her, then to them, and now stood dusty and empty, with cobwebs hanging off the candlesticks and rafters. She’d long moved all her books and more important things out of the room and into her and Luz’s room at the owl house.
“It’s dusty…," Amity hummed, running her fingers over the empty shelves inside.
“A bit…, I don't think we've really been here in three years,” Luz agreed.
Amity glanced around before she saw a book sitting in the middle of her old desk, it wasn't dull or covered in dust like everything else in the room.
She walked forward and picked it up, Luz watching her with a knowing smile.
It’s dark green, leather-bound cover was soft in her hands. She blinked down at the title, written in her girlfriend’s familiar looping writing.
‘The Tale of Luz & Amity’
She looked over her shoulder at her girlfriend who was watching her with a grin.
“What is this?”
“Why don’t you open it and find out?” she retorted, still smiling. Amity cocked a brow but turned her attention back to the book and flipped open its cover.
The first page had a memory picture pasted to its pages, one she immediately recognized as the magic of the wailing star worked on it and a small, fourteen-year-old version of her and her girlfriend materialized on the pages.
Them in the cafeteria at Hexside, Amity on her knees on the table, and her hands wrapped around Luz’s collar.
“I know you’re in there! Who are you, what are you? I want answers!”
“Blughhh...
Amity chuckled to herself, watching a younger her shake an abomination goo covered Luz like a ragdoll.
She smiled over her shoulder at Luz, who was looking at her with both brows raised encouragingly.
The next page was their meeting at the covention.
'Oh, it's you, Willow's abomination… thing.'
'Heyyyy Amity…. so, funny story, Not, an abomination, sorry for the confusion last week. I'm Luz, the human, hi.'
'Ugh, put that away.'
Amity shook her head at her younger self. If only she knew then what she knew now.
She flipped the page and this time the little figures of the two of them were partially sewed into a book, running from Odabin in this very library..
‘Now what?’
‘I don’t know! I didn’t even think that would work, I was all like ‘arghh!’
She still smirked at the sheer dumbness of that plan.
The next page held another familiar scene.
'Azura book club? Azura book club!?' an excited Luz bounced.
'As long as it's a secret club, okay?' Amity whispered, cheeks pinking.
She turned the page and watched as the next memory photo popped up, the two of them in Willow’s memories, just after sliding the flaming inner Willow into the lake.
‘Whoo, teamwork, baby!’ The younger Luz wrapped her arms around younger Amity and squeezed her.
She smiled to herself as she turned the page to watch the next scene play out in its entirety.
‘Well, if that’s settled, may I have this dance?’ she held out her hand, and Luz’s filled it.
She grinned at the next one, Luz scooping up her and her broken foot after playing grudgby against Boscha.
Then, pasted to the next page was one of the letters Luz had written to her as her secret admirer. She smiled down at it, though in the back of her mind she wondered how Luz had found it, she kept them all in a special box in their closet.
A younger and bashful looking Luz rose up from the paper with a handful of Blood-Blossoms.
‘These flowers could never be as beautiful as you, but I hope you like them anyway...”
There were also a couple of memories from the Masquerade, their dancing, and after the party had ended in her bedroom. Luz stood behind her, quietly, watching, waiting.
She flipped through its many pages, trying not to get too teary-eyed at some, like the night under the grom tree on their one month anniversary, their first fall shower, or her fifteenth birthday. Of course, Luz also included their fight with the illusion track upperclassmen, their first fight, her first numberry tripout when they were camping and that first, awkward dinner with her parents, as well as another first time she quickly flipped past, cheeks red and Luz, snickered behind her as she rolled her eyes.
Of course, she would add that...
She grinned, eyes glazed over with unshed tears at their second grom, graduation when she'd moved into the owl house, and a host of all the other things in between them were brought to life by the wailing stars' magic.
She turned the page about halfway through the book to find the last page with nothing on it.
This one did not contain a memory photo, instead, stuck inside it was a sticky note with a simple single line of text, the magic of the wailing star made the small magic copy of her girlfriend appear on the page, looking up at her.
‘Will you help make the next one by saying yes?’
Amity blinked.
“What? Say yes to wh-” she turned and dropped the book, hands shooting up to cover her mouth as she looked down at Luz on one knee, holding up a small box with a sparkling ring sitting in it.
Luz’s heart was beating in her chest so hard she thought for sure it was about to break some of her ribs. Her mouth was dry, but she somehow managed to speak.
“Amity Blight, will you continue our story with me and marry me?” she asked.
What was in reality only a few seconds felt like an eternity as Luz watched the tears well up in her eyes and drip down her cheeks, her mouth working soundlessly.
“Yes!” she finally managed to shout when she could speak again.
Luz broke out into a bright smile and jumped up, pulling the ring out of the box and taking hold of her girlfriend's shaking left hand, and slipping the ring on her finger.
As soon as it was in place Amity practically flung herself on her, kissing her, even as tears slid down her cheeks.
Luz couldn't stop grinning even as her own eyes welled with tears, lifting her off the ground and spinning her around while Amity squeezed her neck.
She finally set her down but Amity didn't let go.
"I love you," She choked, face buried in her neck.
"Yo también te amo, Amity" she mumbled, squeezing her.
After several long minutes, she finally pulled back and Luz grinned at her, wiping the tears from her pale cheeks before she reached down to pick up the book and handing it to Amity.
"Try not to set these on fire…" Luz grinned and Amity gave her a gentle shove.
"Never," she promised as she really looked at the ring now sitting on her finger and tears threatened to fall again.
"It's beautiful, Luz…" she sniffled, and looked up at her, smiling, and Luz smiled back at her.
It was late when they finally left the library and headed home on Luz's staff.
All the lights were still on in the owl house when they arrived.
Lilith and Eda were both sitting in the living room, along with Gus and Willow when they walked in.
They were looking at them, trying not to appear expectant in case Luz hadn't asked but she grinned at them and held up Amity's hand.
"She said yes!" she declares and the living room erupted with cheers and congratulations.
"I'm going to get the good apple blood!" Eda grinned, disappearing into the kitchen, Lilith following behind her to help.
"Dibs on best man!" Gus called, jumping up.
"You got it." Luz laughed.
"So, was it everything you dreamed it would be?" Willow asked, sliding up to Amity, who smiled at her before glancing at her new fiancée as she talked excitedly with Gus and held the precious leather book in her hands.
"It was perfect."

Before anyone absolutely loses their minds, no, this isn't the end, but a secondary plotline that will take place between their adventures as teenagers in the past.
