How to Dine Out-or-Take Out Without Gaining Weight
Eating out doesn’t have to mean disaster for your weight loss goals. With a few smart and healthy decisions, you can enjoy dining out while still keeping your health and fitness goals on track.
Next time you are headed to a restaurant to dine in or take out, keep these tips in mind.
Before the Meal
Do your research: Most restaurants have their menus available online, so do some research before you settle on a location. Pick a place that offers food options that are lower in fat, such as grilled fish, lean proteins and fresh vegetables.
Snack away: No, this does not mean you should fill up before your meal. But eating a planned, low-calorie, fiber filled, protein snack — such as an ounce of cheese with a small apple, a green filled protein shake or small Greek yogurt with ¼ cup berries — might help keep you from raiding the bread basket or going overboard on appetizers.
Ordering and Eating
Order first: Say goodbye to table manners. Order before the rest of your table to keep from being tempted by their less-healthy orders.
It’s OK to be specific with your order. If you want dressing or sauce on the side, make sure the server knows your request. And don’t hesitate to send things back if they are not prepared as you requested.
To help slow down while you are eating, keep conversation going between bites. And between bites, put your utensils down.
Pack up half of the meal in a doggie bag and take it home for another meal tomorrow. Lisa’s motto: “Dine out, divide & doggie bag”
After the Meal
Be selective with dessert: Look for low-fat options, like fresh fruit or sorbet and better yet, split it. Always get up and walk around as soon as possible. You can be fit and even lose weight dining out. Enjoy and Cheers to the fit life!

Who loves food? Who loves date nights?! The best fish, hands down, I’ve ever had in #Auburnca. No... the best meal I’ve ever had in Auburn! . . We took a last minute and much needed date night 🥰 and went to the new @crudo.auburn . . It felt great getting back to my husband and I ... only us for a couple hours... and also actually having FRESH fish in this small inland town. As a #coastalchic from some of the best food spots in the world, I highly recommend the black cod entree!!! The balance they’ve accomplished with their flavors in this dish is the balance I strive for in life. 👌🏽 It was that good!
