he's owned soap for years, since he was a teenager; paid for his medication and all his surgeries and tied them so deeply, soap’s lost hope of ever getting away. he gets even worse when soap falls pregnant. he was always controlling; blowing up at him if he spent too long out of the house or did something without telling him. but he becomes utterly possessive during the pregnancy

soap knows it has nothing to do with his safety or the baby's

he knows he sees his baby as an investment; another being he can control and hold over him

he gets worse and worse but there’s nothing soap can do. there's been nothing he can do for a long time. then a few months after the baby is born, soap doesn’t watch his tone closely enough and his husband threatens to drop his baby in punishment for it

soap doesn't think. he doesn't plan

he takes his baby and runs

he sneaks out of the servant's quarters of the sterile mansion he's been forced to live in for almost a decade and walks down the street without a backwards glance; his baby the only thing in his arms. he knows all of his husband's cars have trackers, all of them in his name since he never lets soap drive or go anywhere by himself, so he walks far enough to be out of view of the mansion's cameras and steals one. it doesn't have a car seat and all he can do is clutch his baby to his chest as he drives

soap tugs his shirt up to let his baby feed, drops his head back and cries

a light knock sounds on the window and soap flinches, curling over his baby to protect him from his huband's cruel hands

soap blinks tears from his eyes and looks at the large stranger standing beside the car. a neck gaiter covers his mouth and it should be off-putting… but something about him stops the feeling in its tracks. the stranger takes a half-step back and lifts a chilled and sealed water bottle, pressing it towards the window

soap quickly swipes his face clean and rolls down the window. "sorry 'bout that," he apologises with a choked laugh, the careful front he’s built over the years cracked and bleeding

the stranger gives a dismissive but somehow not diminishing shrug. "long day?" he asks

"could say that," he gives a shrug of his own and pats his baby's back as he makes a disgruntled noise, unconsciously swaying him

he politely keeps his gaze up on his face. "looks like you could use a break."

soap's breath hitches, anxiously darting his tongue out over his bottom lip. "could say that," he repeats uselessly and takes the water with a quiet “thanks,”; his throat dry and screaming for it after crying so hard

the stranger hums, watching him down the bottle and soap doesn’t notice his eyes drifting to the backseat and footwell of the passenger side. doesn’t notice the slight tension in his fists at what he sees. "how long you been runnin', lad?"

soap freezes, the water settling in his stomach like a stone. he swallows thickly and the bottle falls from his lips

"not long enough."

the stranger just nods, looking idly back down the highway

"you know, this place is connected to a garage,” he starts, nodding back to a building attached to the station without taking his eyes off the road. “lotta people drift through 'ere on road trips; too many to keep track.”

soap frowns slightly, shifting his hold on his baby

soap’s mouth parts in a gasp as he realises just what the stranger’s saying. "how easy?" he whispers

he shrugs and even with his face hidden beneath the gaiter, he doesn’t feel afraid. "i'd say this car'd be a good deal. would blend right in with the rest of ‘em; no one’d ever notice it. what say i take it off your hands?"

soap's breath shudders out of him, his whole body going limp with relief. his baby's eyes fall shut with a satisfied hum and for the first time he can remember, he feels the gentle touch of hope

Something something about Shannon in Eddie begins pushing Eddie to choose between her and his family - between her and Christopher - and Buck not pushing Eddie to make that choice between him or Christopher.

The way they juxtaposed Shannon choosing to step out and leave when he doesn’t immediately choose her - when he chooses Christopher and his family - making that choice because he knows deep down he is not in a good place and that his family can provide the stability Chris needs in that moment, in order for him to heal himself.

With Buck - who is acting out in a way that is making it seem he is trying to push Eddie into making a choice between him and Christopher but who ultimately makes a choice that allows Eddie to choose Christopher - because he knows that’s what Eddie needs to do and will support him in that choice even if it means causing himself pain.

The way the show has essentially paralleled the idea of family providing the space needed to heal - having Christopher deciding to return to Texas and the stability of his wider family whilst Eddie needed the space to heal himself. Christopher was deeply affected by Shannon abandoning him in Texas - the show doesn’t explicitly say it or show it, but it’s clear it’s a trauma that has impacted him and continues to do so. So his choice to return to Texas - to the grandparents who supported him through that trauma - at a moment when he is confronted with the ‘ghost’ of his dead mother - having been given and read her letter to him in the recent past - makes complete sense. He’s subconsciously repeating his past experiences with Eddie’s trauma and Shannon being gone - being raised by his grandparents while his dad is a semi presence in his life - until Eddie makes a choice and actually talks to Chris about it.

I’m not getting into the nitty gritty of Shannon because this isn’t about the rights or wrongs of what she did when it comes to Christopher - it’s incredibly nuanced and she’s a complex character we don’t have enough background on to pass full judgement on, but isn’t what I’m looking at here.

What we’re seeing, is a clear paralleling of the situations Shannon and Buck find themselves in - in a not great place themselves and looking to Eddie for help and support, but we get a loud juxtaposition between the choices they make when Eddie is not able to provide that support and reassurance - when Eddie makes a choice that he feels he needs to make.

Eddie is struggling with trauma and his mental health is compromised (ptsd in both cases in my opinion).

The military ptsd is obvious in Eddie begins, which Shannon compounds with her desire to leave almost as soon as Eddie is back, making things worse and Eddie digs in.

While in season 7 Kim triggers his ptsd and her decision to role play Shannon only compounds the situation.

Both result in Ramon and Helena taking care of Chris and we have it implied that Eddie has found his way through his military ptsd in Eddie begins , seemingly on his own and while he worked - with little support for himself from his parents even as they supported Chris, and we are shown Eddie working through his trauma in the first half of season 8. Again seemingly on his own (not saying buck hasn’t been there for him - but we’re not shown Eddie actually opening up to him in any way - father Brian is the only real opening up of Eddie we’re shown) and while he continues working - with little support from his parents for himself - they are once again focused on Christopher.

But where Shannon pushes and then chooses to abandon him and Chris when he doesn’t immediately agree with her and go along with her desires, Buck takes the opposite tack - he pushes (semi subconsciously) in a similar but less explicit way to Shannon - but where she had already made her choice - and streps out and away. Buck realises pushing is the wrong tactic and alters course - understanding what Eddie needs is actually a helping hand and so Buck steps even further in with him and gives him that hand in the form of taking over the lease.

The beauty of this parallel and then juxtaposition between Shannon and Buck - and Eddie’s arc is that we then get to move back into another parallel and juxtaposition between them. We’re likely going to get the parallel of Eddie and Chris sat on the porch deciding to go to LA together (once they’ve reconciled and rebuilt their relationship) in the aftermath of Eddie standing up to his parents. But we get the juxtaposition of Eddie (semi) subconsciously choosing LA because Shannon is there with him actively choosing LA because Buck is there - both instances led/lead to the reconnecting of family, to a do over or a fresh start. But where reconnecting with Shannon ended in tragedy because it was built on the idea of the same relationship they had before and not something new or different, reconnecting with Buck will end happily because it will be a different relationship to the one they had before, it’s a new beginning - and that is why it will be successful.

The military experience is hard for him. Just as it is for Jungkook. They both hinted at it, in their letters to ARMYs... They are stationed and working in a different environment from the others. We all know that.

Sure, Jimin looks really good outwardly. He's physically strong, holds himself with confidence, and on the outside it looks like all is well... And, that hug that he gave Jin and Tae.... gosh, that was the most heartfelt hug that I have seen him give, perhaps ever. It was an embrace. A full-on Heart-based embrace... 🤧

Even though I have written about how I believe that this time in the military is good for them (taking them out of the public eye), I also have to say that I am keenly aware of the hardships that come with the experience, too. I honestly think that it is the most difficult for Jimin and Jungkook. This is purely due to the particular military base that they are asigned to, and the level of risk and the type of training that they have received there. It is training for the front lines. It isn't office work, or such.... They didn't take the easy route, when they enlisted as companions, for sure.

I'll be eternally grateful that they are together for this experience. I think it would be 1000 times more difficult, if Jungkook and Jimin were separated. Thank god they are together....

Both of them are carrying the weight of the military differently than the other members. If you can see energy or if you are an empath, you can "see" it and/or sense it. Heavy it is, indeed. It's almost like a greyish bubble that they are encased in, if you are a visual type of person. Greyish and heavy. And, it is completely out of resonance with their own higher frequencies, which makes it hard to navigate with, 24/7. Jimin, especially.

My hope is that they come through the experience without too much that they have to later process and heal. Yeah. We have to remember that in the military, they are taught how to shoot to kill. They are taught how to think in ways that go against everything that they Innately Are, as Human Beings. It goes against everything they are, as the beautiful people they are. (In my opinion.)

If you have a loved one who is military service or is a veteran, then you know. If you have had those deeper conversations about their experiences (that they could speak of), then you know.

As a believer that Love Heals, I do believe that the Love that we send them every day helps them, somehow. The more conscious we are about doing it, the better. It can help them. I feel that they need all the love that we can possibly send them, if I am honest here. It is something that we as ARMYs can collectively do, to be helpful in the best way.

So if you feel like these words resonate and you feel inclined to make a conscious effort to send each of them love, please do. It will help, for sure. Even if it is simply a minute or so of each day that you think of them and send them love, or think of them being surrounded by Love, or even "intend" that everything that touches them is pure Love.... You get the idea.

Yeah. It is a little something, but it is also a BIG something that we can do.
